  October BOTM POST number seventeen
Good morning everybirdie, Jesse here once more with your BOTM Adventure Post.
After hiking along the path for a long while, I decide to stop for a moment to rest, and seeing a large rock, I sit down. Well, I look up and see that the grass and trees are up-side-down.
I shake my head, and rub my tired eyes, "I must be seeing things" so peaking another look up, I see that the grass, trees and everything from the downside is now on the up-side. " EEEEEEEE!"
"What's wrong Jesse?" Chyna asks then suddenly realizes she is standing on a cloud in the sky. She looks above and sees what had scared Jesse so much. The trees are above her head. As Jesse and Chyna makes this discovery, it becomes apparent that every other birdie has also realized that they are floating in the air, or is the ground floating?
"Don't panic" Angel says, " trying to reach the rock? Cloud? that Jesse is sitting on. He ducks quickly as a Duck flies by upside down. " Now this is too weird"
" Where are we BB?" Sky asks her, hoping there is a logical answer to why they are now below the ground or above it? Sky shakes his red head, this is getting confusing. " I sure could use a pickle right now?" he says to himself
" It must be " Uppie-Downsie Land" BB answers, not eggactly certain where they were. She looks around at the ground above her. " look, in the distance, I can see the tower of the BC Castle" she points to the very far distance, and the small flag that sits on the top of the main tower. A wave of relief washes through the group of Corn Maze Adventurers. But how to get there from here?
"Look the path is up there" BonBon says to Spot. She tilts her head to see it better.
"How are we going to follow the path, when we are up here, or down here, in the air?" Cappy questions
"If we are upside down then we have to figure out how to get back down? Up, there?" Jenny-Lynn explains, concern in her voice. " I knew I should have brought my cell phone"
Jesse, sighs, scratching his head. If they were now upside down, or down-side up, how could they get there from here? He looked at the blue sky and clouds that carried on as far as the eye could see, then at the ground, the path, the trees above. " I wonder if we can fly down there, or up there? SPOT?" Jesse explains his idea, and Spot agrees to try to fly down or up to the ground to see if he could find a way back to where they belonged. Taking off into the air Spot circles twice then heads for the ground above, but begins to fall towards the sky where the others are watching hopefully from below. Spot hits the sky, ground with a bump, then stands up.
"Where am I?" he asks out loud, brushing the dust off his feathers. HE looks and sees that he is alone, beside a large field of daisies. All the others have disappeared from sight.
"HELPPPPPPPPP!" he calls and his voice echos in the empty field. HE is all alone in some strange place, " JESSE? Poppa SKY?" he calls, but realizes he has disappeared from their sight.

  October BOTM POST number fifteen
Hi everybird, Jesse here with today's BOTM Adventure POST. It is such a relief to be free from those creepy, crawly, ucky black Monster sized Spiders. I didn't wanta say anything but I think that some of them are the Giant Birdeater Spiders. "YUCK, is all I can say."
"Where are Sweetpepper, Apache and Pearl gone?" Kiddo asks in fear for his wife-bird and friends.
"Not again" Jesse says his yellow face turning a ghostly white. "they have to be here, I just saw them a moment ago!" Jesse brings to run back and forth searching under every bush, behind every tree and asks everybirdie, but he is unable to find his missing friends. Sadly he returns to where Sky is in deep conversation with Jake and Spot.
" We have to get to the Castle. We can't delay. Our friends are gone, and we have to save them." Sky's voice hesitates for a moment, before finishing his sentence, " before it's too late"
"Everybirdie" Jesse calls out loudly, " we are going to follow a path I found searching for Sweetpepper and the others. It looks well traveled, it must lead to the Castle. We have to hurry, it's getting late, the sun will be setting soon."
Jesse leads out, following the path, watching carefully for anything "odd" he might find along it. Everything is fine, and he begins to relax, the birdies are making greyt time, they will be safely at the Castle soon. Then he can return with help to find their missing friends.
"JESSE?" Spot flies up to walk with him, have you noticed anything weird?
"Nope, everything looks fine. WHY?" Jesse asks an edge of concern to his voice.
"No reason, well, maybe it might be odd, maybe not but have you noticed that every tree is planted beside another one that is the same?"
Jesse looks at the trees beside the path, and certainly it is true, every tree has a perfect match to it. He continues to watch as he walks quickly along. Every rock and every bush also has a double.
"Yeah, it sure is odd Spot." Jesse turns his head to speak to Spot and let's out a terrified scream, " SPOT? SPOT?" he yells in terror, as his eyes fall upon not one but two Spots. Jesse screams again, and a perfect echo follows, causing him to snap his head to the right to come beak to beak with "HIMSELF! AHHHHHHHHHHH!"
"SKY, JAKE, come quickly!" the two Jesse's scream in echo of one another. Jesse tries to get away from himself, but his double follows every move he makes. he sees Sky and Jake coming his direction, and stops. There are two of each of them, in fact everywhere Jesse looks there are two of everybirdie. The others realize that they too have a perfect double and fear spreads like fire among the group.
"Falco? BooBoo?" Hulk asks then backs away unsure of which one is the real Falco and the real BooBoo.

Hello everybirdie, Jesse here with today's BOTM Adventure POST. What a sticky, icky mess we have found ourselves in. Giant Spiders everywhere, and no where to run. Then all of a sudden I found a clearing. I was eggcited to see our way of escape, that is until the air is shattered by the terrified scream of Dixie.
Dixie is very upset and frightened about what the spiders would do to Little Ange. He runs in circles around the tree where she is hanging from their thick webs! Dixie screams for someone to come to his aid," Please help me reach my wife bird and cut her loose" He tries but is too small to reach her at this point! He asks permission to get on top of Poppa Sky's head so he can have a better reach of her and then pulling off a thick branch from the Mulberry tree to reach LA with, he stands carefully on Poppa Sky's head trying to balance with his twisted toes, all the while reaching up with the long branch to his Little Angel! Little Angel reaches down breaking through the webbing she is caught in and grabs the branch that Dixie is holding out to her, suddenly losing her balance she falls from the webbing and tumbles down onto Dixie, as both birds fall sliding down Poppa Sky's red feathered back!
Dixie kisses his Little Angel. "Oh Dixie you saved my life. I'm sure those black Monster Spiders were going to eat me for dinner." Little Angel sniffs, wiping a tear from her eye. Sky checks his little fister over and seeing she and Dixie are ok, he stands tall as he can, and looks intently around to find a way to escape from this mess. It is while he is busy searching that Jenny-Lynn arrives ta his side. "SKY, I have a plan." she whispers into Sky's ear. HE nods his red head several times as he listens to her plan. After she finishes he clears his voice to get everybirds attention.
"Jenny-Lynn has a plan. She thinks if we were to form a long line and use sticks to break the webs, we can easily bust free of the spider's trap and get away from here. BonBon has a lighter." He frowns, thinking to himself, she ought not to have it in the first place, taking note to lecture his daughter later. " We can use it to burn the webs off the trees and bushes, our sticks can tear them down from the path ahead of us." Seeing no other plan, everybirdie lines up, wing to wing forming a greyt line of feathers, and slowly they work their way forward, removing webs as they go. It seems a very long time before they reach the end of the spiders home, and bid them a quick good-bye. The Spiders glare angry eyes at the retreating birds. "Just wait, they think they are free from troubles...." The Spiders hiss and laugh as they return to their damaged webs. " they'll wish they were here again!"
Jesse stops for a moment to get his bearings. He sits on a tree that had fallen to the ground. HE asks SKY to find Apache so he can use the binoculars. Sky searches but returns with Kiddo in a panic, " Apache, Sweetpepper and Pearl are gone!"

Hello friends, Jesse here with our Saturday BOTM Adventure Post. As we turned for a final look at BC Lake, the water is once more calm, glass-like and no sign of the past violent storm remains. Even the row-boats have disappeared. "WHAT! The row-boats, their gone!" Kacey exclaims loudly as she stares in disbelief. For indeed the boats had vanished into thin air.
BB looks at Sky and Jesse, then back at the Lake, "I hope we can find the BC Castle. It is funny that it has disappeared on us. I know it is a magical place but why would it vanish on the birds who love it sooooo much???" Then looking down towards the ground she says with a sigh, "Can somebirde please remove Cookie from around my legs? Its hard to waddle this way."
" SURE HOPE WE FIND OUR WAY BACK TO THE CASTLE THEN FIND OUR FRIENDS. THIS IS ONE SCAREY TRIP.' Sweetpepper tells Kiddo with worry in her voice. Kiddo takes her wing in his, and holds her tightly. "We'll get out of here, don't you worry Sweetpepper."
Spot comes to where Sky, BB and Jesse are standing, trying to decide what to do next. Jake walks towards the group, but suddenly stops dead in his tracks. "What was that?" he asks pointing to where he had thought he saw something peaking out of the grass at him. Seeing nothing he joins the others.
Bonbon looks and sees that her picture with Parker is in the photo album Hesse has on his gallery. turning to spot and Parker she says, "Jesse put me and Parker in the profile!Hehee!!! I can't wait to show Snowflake........ Oh no! I forgot that she disappeared!" BonBon starts to cry loudly because she misses her friend!
Spot hugs her and says, "don't worry BonBon. We'll find her and all the others too!"(He sounds more confidant than he feels, but he won't let BonBon see that!)
"Hey, Panther! I have an idea! We're tiels, and fly well! let's go up as high as we can and look for them!"
"Good idea, Spot," says Panther.
Jesse says, "you guys be careful! And keep up in sight range, OK?"
"OK, let's go Panther!" Spot lifts into the air
They fly straight up and fly in a big circle looking for their friends. Finally, they land and report to Jesse. "We didn't see them, we also didn't see the castle in any direction! I think we're lost!"
Worry lines form on Jesse's handsome face again, and he says, "it must be a trick of some kind by the BC ghosts! The Castle has to be there. It's always easy to find from the Lake."
Jake and Sky stand close, talking. "I am certain I saw tiny black eyes staring at me from over there, then they disappeared." Sky looks in the direction Jake indicated. Seeing nothing he frowns. " We better go check it out, just to be sure." The two boys inch closer to where the eyes had been. Parting the grass carefully using a stick Sky found on the ground they lean over for a better looks and suddenly the air is split in two by their terrified screams........

Helloooooo, Jesse screams in fright as the row boat bounces wildly on the storm tossed lake. The waves reach high over the sides of the row-boats filling them with cold, icy water. The frightened birds yell for help, their voices lost in the crashes of thunder from above.
After what feels like an eternity, the small wooden row-boats bump roughly into the rocky shores of the BC Lake. With a deep sigh of relief everybirdie scrambles to escape from the angry waters, and wind, jumping over the edge quickly, and running for cover in the nearby brush that watches over the normally quiet Lake. Jesse crawls along the beach, counting heads, making certain everybirdie is safely ashore. With so many disappearing he doesn't plan to take any chances at all from here on. Sitting down beside SKY, BB and Jake Jesse rubs his chin as he thinks of the next thing he ought to do. HE frowns sadly, uncertainly etching his handsome face with worry lines.
"I'm not certain where we are?" Jesse says, sneaking a peak out from around the brush he and the others are hankered down behind.
"We aren't far from the Castle. In fact from every point of BC Lake we can see the Castle. We need to get our bearings." BB says with confidence.
"Ok, Jake and I will head up that small hill and get a better idea where we are." Sky says climbing to his feet, with Jake beside him. ' Be right back" he tells BB and Jesse as they head off up the hill.
"You any idea where we are?" Sky asks Jake as they climb the hillside.
"NOPE!" Jake says looking around slowly. " NEVER saw this place before"
Sky takes Apache's binoculars from his jacket pocket and scans the area. " I can't find the Castle. Actually I can't see anything I recognize."
Sky hands Jake the binoculars. HE looks along time, then " whistles softly. Nope, me either. I think if we head towards the west we will find the Castle, or at least something we will remember."
Sky and Jake climb back down to where they'd left Jesse and BB. After a moment of explanation, they decide that they better keep moving. BB agrees that the Castle should lay tot he West. Jesse once more moves down the brushes, stopping to explain the plan to each group of nervous adventurers. He stops where Falco and Boo Boo sit quietly looking rather scared. " I'll get you outta here, and we will find the others. I promise." Falco smiles softly.
"OKAY, everybirdie, let's keep moving. I am sure that if we keep heading WEST we will locate the Castle, or somewhere we will all recognize. We need to hurry, we have to find Sugar, Cori, Pepper, Gus, Snowflake and Cydney."
With much murmuring the tired, wet, scared birdies follow Jesse as he begins to walk towards the West. The group climbs a small hill, coming to rest at the top for a moment. As they reach the summit, the wind fades, the clouds part, and once more the sky shines blue, and golden with the warm sunshine.

  October BOTM POST number ten
Hello everybirdie, Jesse here with our Thursday BOTM Adventure POST. I felt a cold a shiver of dread run down my spine as we headed off towards the East, and the BC Castle. Five of our friends were missing. Vanished into thin-air. Where could they be? The worry made frown lines across Jesse's face,a s he tried to think of what might have happened to them.
" Jesse, maybe we should go back and search the area of Gus, Cydney and Snowflake?" Lalo asks as she rushes to keep up.
"No, I think this is a job for the Macaw Guards. We already lost five of our friends, I don't want to loose anymore of you." Jesse says, concern filling his voice.
" I wonder where Sugar and Cori went? How could they just vanish?" Rio says to Sky, as they hurry to stay up with the others, ' They were there one minute then PUFF"
Sky looks back towards the Enchanted Forest and the corn Maze. " I wish I knew little buddy, I wish I knew."
As the group draws closer to the Lake, the water shimmers in the sunlight, inviting and calm. On the shore sits several row-boats, paddles resting on the sides. Jesse stops and puts a wing over his eyes, looking for the Castle. Not seeing it, he shrugs, and rubs his chin." Where is the Castle?"
Jenny-Lynn looks and edges closer to the water for a better view. " It must be around that bend in the lake" She points to a wide bay to the right, and adds, " Where else could it be?"
Jesse smiles, a sigh of relief filling his heart. Safety was just across the lake." Come on, we'll row across the Lake tot he Castle. It'll be faster." Jesse waved his friends towards the waiting boats. Scrambling in quickly, they soon as pushed off from shore, the paddles dipping into the calm waters. As they paddle, the sky above begins to turn dark, as heavy grey clouds blow in from the west. The water begins to grow rough, as small waves lift the row boats. As the birdies row, the waves grow larger, and stronger, then, a mighty wind begins to blow. Lightning crashes above, sending white flames angrily towards the Lake. The small row-boats lift, and fall, waves washing over their edges. The birds scream in fright as thunder booms loudly, echoing it's wrath through the blackened heavens.
"JESSE" Little Angel screams in fright, as a clap of thunder roars, and lightening glares yellow-white through the darkness.
"Stay calm, we have to try to reach the shore" Jesse paddles with all his might. Apache and Raffi dipping their paddles in unison. " Come on, we have to get to land fast" The birdies row their boats as fast as the waves will let them, but the wind continues to push them backwards, out into the middle of the lake. The row boats spin and dip in the heavy storm.
" Falco and Willie, keep rowing" Elvis says, as he tries to paddle the boat. Suddenly the waves rip the paddles right out of their wings, leaving the boat to the mercies of the waves. Angel and Pepper hold on tightly, as the boat rocky wildly.

Day 29--Igonish Surfin' Lessons with Pookie
Good morning everybirdie, Angel Girl here from the warm, sunny Ingonish beach with today's BOTM blog. It is awesome tanning by the ocean, as the waves roll in softly. We have been having a blast swimming in the ocean, and getting ready for a few quick surfing lessons. I'm not so sure on the bird on a board thing, but it sounds like fun, and I know Little Angel, Dixie and Laka are really good at it. Pookie is gonna give us some tips and pointers on how to surf. Should be lots of fun, and he's a real pro.
" Angel Girl, come on, time to take surfin' lessons" Kaji and Lizzie call as they head to the other end of the beach, were a large number of birds are eagerly waiting for Pookie to instruct them on the hows and why's of safe surfin'. Pookie, climbs up on a piece of drift-wood and begins,
"Let's start with the obvious: Surfboards are made to float on the water. They have a natural center of gravity. If you were to lay any surfboard in a swimming pool, it would come to rest the same way every time. This is what we want to do when you lay on a surf board. That is to have the board remain in the same relation to the water as it was without your weight on it, just a bit lower in the water. A good tip is to find this balance point and lay on your board then make a mark right at your beak-tip. This is a spot best made with a bit of wax or a magic marker. It is a reference point that enables you to put your beak on the same spot every time so the board will react to your weight the same way every time."
Everybirdie lays their board flat on the sand, and Pookie and Sky help them make the mark with a red marker.
"Ok, now do not paddle with both wings simultaneously because this will cause the board to speed up and slow down in the water and you will not be able to maintain constant hull speed through the water. Always paddle with the same wing-stroke, one wing, then the other." The birdies head to the edge, place their boards on the water, climb on, and start to paddle. " Now sit up carefully on your board, try not to t..." Too late Hulk, Gus and BB tip their surf boards over.
"Now it's time to learn how to stand up. Lie on your chest, your head up, looking ahead. Put your wings on the board beside your shoulders tips down like you were going to do a push up. Push your upper body up while at the same time you sweep your feet under you, laying them on the stringer, the line down the middle of the board, so your weight is centered along the stringer" Everybirdie keeps trying until they all stand up nervously. "Ok, here comes a small wave, let the wave pick up the board, keep your wings out to balance you, and have fun" Pookie watches as the otehrs wobble, some fallin' into the water, others keeping their balance,a nd a few cheat and fly off their boards into the air.
"WOW, this is greyt" LA yells to Dixie
"WEEEEE almost as good as in Hawaii" Dixie grins, keeping his board smoothly moving on the surface.

Day 29--Igomish Surfin' Lessons with Pookie
Good morning everybirie, Angel Girl here from the warm, sunny Ingomish beach with today's BOTM blog.
" Angel Girl, come on, time to take surfin' lessons" Kaji and Lizzie call as they head to the other end of the beach, were a large nuimbe rof birds and boards are eagerly waiting for Pookie to instruct them on the hows and why's of safe surfin'.
"Now it's time to learn how to stand up. This is something you have been doing all your life. Day 28--Ingonish day 1
Hello everybirdie, Angel Girl here with today's BOTM post. I apologize for the lack of blogs the last few days. My typist, Momma Deb was devastated by the loss of our beautiful Cockatoo fister Angel Sassy. It left her lost for words, and I hope that you all have understood. Today we continue on our Cape Breton Tour. Thanks to Ms BB who lead the trail ride to Ingonish, Cape Breton Island, we can now begin to explore, this majestic gem of nature together.
On the east side of Cape Breton Highlands park is located Ingonish. Know for it's fabulous Keltic Lodge resort a world-class 18-hole golf course designed by Stanley Thompson. Golf Magazine ranked it as one of the top 100 courses in the world and the best public course in Canada. George Knudson suggested leaving your clubs behind and just walking the course. The course has been certified by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program, a program aimed at conserving wildlife habitat in spaces used for other purposes.
The Park area is made up of a mix of Acadian forest of deciduous trees such a Maple, Ash and conifers, mainly at lower elevations. Boreal Froest is found on the plateau and upland areas. Moose, black bears, coyotes and Bald Eagles are the main wildlife inhabitants to this area. Northern Gannets can often be seen from the park's coastal hiking trails, e.g. the Skyline Trail. The park's forests provide habitat for the uncommon Bicknell's Thrush. The Gaspé Shrew, the local name for a smallish variety of the Long-tailed Shrew, Sorex dispar, can be found on rocky slopes in the park. The first nest records of Boreal Owl for Nova Scotia were found in the south west corner of this park
There are many activities to do when visiting this Cape Breton Highlands location. Some of these activities include camping, hiking, sightseeing, swimming, fishing, geocaching, cycling, golfing, picnicking, weddings, kayaking and surfing There are endless swimming options available for all ages in the park. There are five main salt water ocean beaches . The ocean beaches include Ingonish Beach, North Bay Beach, Black Brook Beach and La Block Beach. The two freshwater beaches include Freshwater Lake and Warren Lake. Freshwater Lake and Ingonish Beach are both supervised with a lifeguard during the summer months.
" Come on Angel Girl, let's go swimming" Little Angel calls through the tent door, " it's gorgeous outside today, and maybe we can try some surfing later"
"Oh, ok, give me a few minutes to find my bikini" Angel Girl giggles at her fister's eggcitement about life and having fun.
"Dixie" LA calls, " We're goin' swimming." Little Angel hurries to find Dixie and her beach towel
"You think Pookie will help us learn to surf?" Hulk asks as Little Angel rushes past,
"He is already on the beach getting ready for lessons after lunch" Chyna adds checking her feathers in a long mirror the girls bought in Cheticamp.

day 23--Whale watching and scuba diving Part 1
Hello, Angel Girl here in Pleasant Bay, Cape Breton. Rising early before sunrise we ate a little breakfast of pancakes, scrambled eggs and my favorite toast with Peanut Butter. As the sun began to smile over the water, we were already riding down the winding trail into Pleasant Bay where we are scheduled to join Captain Mark. The types of whales we will most likely see are Pilot, Finback, Minke and Humpback. Occasionally we also might see Atlantic White-Sided Dolphins, Basking Sharks and shy Harbor Porpoises. We'll even hear these magnificent creatures sing along with our hydrophone!
If we are fortunate we might also see Gray and harbor Seals lying out on secluded rocky outcrops. Other common residents of the rugged shore are: Bald Eagles, Black Guillemots, Northern Gannets, Double Crested Cormorants, Common Mergansers, Moose and Black Bears.
" Good mornin' mateys" Captain Mark calls as he sees us arriving at the docks. leaving our horses hitched in the shade along a rail installed just for that purpose, we hurry to join him on the deck of the Tourmaster. "Half the days gone" he looks at the sun barely peaking over the horizon.
"Sorry, it's quite a ride from the campsite." Angel Girl replies smiling sweetly
"Never be mindin', let's get ready to set sail" Captain Mark strolls off to the engine room, and reeves the motor while we get settled in for the trip.
"This is gonna be fun" Susan says, watching the Gulls flying over head,as we navigate out of the harbor at Pleasant Bay. " Look, a pair of Eagles fishing for breakfast" she points towards the rocky shore. One Eagle swoops down, touching the water, and rises with a large fish in his talons. They head for shore and a breakfast of fresh fish.
"That's so gross, eating rare fish" Little Angel makes a funny face and rolls her eyes
"Oh, watch" Cookie says indicating a place about 200 feet off the port side of the boat.
Everybirdie watches as a whole family of pilot whales surface as one, breath, and vanish in a splash of water. The whales resurface closer to the boat and call and sing for the eggcited birdies on board. Captain Mark turns on his microphone and records the whale songs, and plays them back to the them. The whales respond by singing, and talking to one another as they swim closer tot he boat.
"Look, a baby one' Dixie tells Little Angel
"I wanta pet one" Little Angel says leaning over the side of the boat.
"OH NO!!!!!" Dixie screams as he grabs LA by the sweater collar and pulls her back into the boat. " They'll eat you"
"No they won't." Little Angel stomps her foot, sticks out her tongue and sits down on a bench with a thump. " I just wanted to pet one"
Cameras clicked as the various whales show off. It was greyt to see, pilot whales, Minke and even a trio of Humpbacks. Along the shore the Grey and Harbor Seals bark loudly, jumping into the water to swim swiftly out to greet the boat........

Day 22--Pleasant Bay, Cape Breton Island
WOW, what a thrill to shoot the rapids with my friends this past weekend. After encountering two difficult rapids we made it to the bottom of the river where it enters the St. Lawrence River at Cheticamp. After some shopping and a greyt lunch of lobster and salads, we hiked back to our campsite. Hiking through the Highlands is quite an eggperience in itself. Cape Breton Highlands National Park's hiking trails range from easy strolls to challenging climbs with panoramic views of canyons, highlands and seacoasts. The trails provide a chance to intimately explore the complex habitat of northern Cape Breton Island. Nature doesn't end at the park's boundaries. Many surrounding areas boast equally breathtaking trails. We relaxed for the remainder of the day before setting off by horseback along the trail to Pleasant Bay our next stop-over.

Pleasant Bay (Scottish Gaelic: Am Bàgh Toilichte) is a community on the western coast of Cape Breton Island, on the shore of the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Inverness County, Nova Scotia. The community is located on the Cabot Trail, 141 kilometers from Port Hawkesbury. Pleasant Bay is known as the whale watching capital of Cape Breton and marks the center of the Cabot trail. This small coastal community offers an idyllic setting for hiking and for enjoying the wonders that nature has to offer. The main industry here is fishing, lobster in spring and snowcrab in the summer. The forest here is home to a variety of birds, fox, coyote, and snowshoe hare.

The ride was 3 hours long, over rocky, mountainous terrain, through heavily forested areas, that gave a breath-taking view of the ocean from our high elevation. Wes topped often to take photos and enjoy the panoramic view. Once we arrived in Pleasant Bay and made camp, we rode the short trip back into town to shop for more souvenirs at the Timmon's Art Studio. They specialize in wood carvings. They specialize in hand carved whales, dolls, fisherman and animals, painted drift wood and rocks, and folk art painting. Local artists do all the work. It is fun, colourful, and whimsical. They are easily recognizable by the large carved fisherman in front of the studio (a rebuilt fishing shack). After a day of exploring we headed back to our campsite for a quieter evening by the bonfire.

"Com' on Sky, you have enough jars of pickles" BB stood waiting by the horses as Sky paid the clerk for the pickles he'd purchased.

"Never have enough" Sky said, quickly packing his treasures into his saddlebag. He grins and wink at Little Angel. She shook her head in agreement. BB looked at Sky a smirk on her face. She simply mounted Sundancer and turned her back into the trail. Sky following close at her hooves.

Tomorrow we'll take a trip out to sea to watch the whales and maybe do a little deep-sea exploring of our own. Better go check on the diving suits and snorkles.

  Day 20- Cheticamp River Kayaking
Hello everybirdie, Angel Girl here with today's wet BOTM post. We finally arrived at the inland beginning of the Cheticamp River, where we found our Kayaks ready and waiting for our down river tour. The sun was just peaking over the mountains when we pushed off and began to slowly paddle out into the calm river. We had not gone very far when the current of the river began to move rapid and strong towards our first white-water adventure.
" Angel GIRL!!!" Raffikki called loudly, " you sure this is safe?"
"Well, I think so," she saw the look on several faces change, " YES, of course it is, just hang on tight to the sides of the kayak and paddle when you can. Watch for rocks, and paddle backwards to slow yourself down to navigate around them. SEE YOU ALL AT THE BOTTOM"
"WEEEEEE," Little Angel and Dixie's kayak begins it rapid ride down the rough, fast moving waters, spray flying up into their faces, " this is fun Dixie" Dixie wasn't so sure, but paddles and leaned slightly to go around the first rock in their pathway.
"Oh, my feathers!" Chyna complained as water soaked her from head to tail, " It's freezing cold too!"
"Paddle harder Cori" Boo Boo ordered as she navigated a turn in the river expertly
""BRRRRRR. It's icy. I'm soaked too" Falco called to Chyna as she and Willie splash around a huge boulder in the river.
"Havin' fun BB?" Sky asked laughing as water covered over their kayak, as they bobbed and spun down the decline" reaching quickly back to check on his pickles. " Ok, their safe!"
"YUCK!!!!!! " BonBon glares at Spot who grins back, " you did that on purpose." BonBon shakes her feathers dry of water and "OHHHHHHHHHH, algae" Spot giggles and splashes her again with the paddle. She sticks out her tongue. " where'd you learn that from"
"I'm tellin' Poppa Sky on you Spot" and Little Angel"
YEEHAWW" SamIAM yells as he and Miranda move swiftly through the choppy waters, mist and waves soaking them to the skin. " This is so much fun"
" Hold on tight" Jesse yells to Falco as they reach a very rough, rocky spot at the bottom of a short falls. Willie and Jesse paddle hard to keep up-right and finally they exit the white water into the calm river below. :Wasn't that greyt falco?" Jesse asks, but only gets a fluff of wet feathers in response. The boys laugh.
" Here we go Gus" Hulk says as they enter the rapids, water falling high around them
"Snowy, Strawberry are you two ok?" Angel calls back seeing them caught up on a small dead-fall( tree limb) in the water.
"Yep, we're free" the kayak moves off swiftly, into the deeper water.
Chipper, Cheyenne, Cookie and TiPaul ride the rushing current safely through the first turn, into the rough, drop over the falls, when suddenly their kayak turns sideways. They paddle hard trying to correct themselves, but it's too late, they tip to the left and then turn upside down. Just as swift they roll themselves upright to the applause of the others watching from below.

  Day 18--Cape Breton HighlandsNational Park
Hello everybirdie, Angel Girl here with today's BOTM post. It was so eggciting to see the whales so up close and personal. The majestic giants were happy to show-off their talents, leaping, and blowing for us as we paddled among them heading for our new campsite at Cape Breton National Park. I wish to take a moment to thank everyone for their their daily votes and support in my quest for the throne. Sharing this adventure with all my friends is making it a special memory for me.
After paddling along the coast we finally arrived at Cheticamp, on the edge of Park. Here we were reunited with our horses, and were able to pick up a few needed supplies that my frothers Jesse and Amanda, being boys, forgot to include in our packs. The park is located in the northern end of the island and covers one-third of the Cabot Trail. It passes through the park featuring spectacular ocean and mountain views. The park is well known for its "steep cliffs and deep river canyons that carve into a forested plateau bordering the Atlantic Ocean" The park was the first National Park in the Atlantic provinces of Canada and covers an area of 948 km². It is one of 42 in Canada's system of national parks. It is known worldwide as the place where singer Taylor Mitchell died after being fatally attacked by coyotes, the only adult human fatality from coyotes in history.
At the western entrance of the park is the Acadian village of Chéticamp on the Gulf of Saint Lawrence . On the eastern side of the park are the beaches at Ingonish on the Atlantic Ocean. In between are mountains, valleys, forests, waterfalls, rocky coastlines and a tundra-like plateau known as the Cape Breton Highlands. Park wildlife includes moose, black bears, coyotes, and Bald Eagles. The park provides habitat for the uncommon Bicknell's Thrush and Gaspe' Shrew. The first nest records of Boreal Owls for Nova Scotia were found in the south west corner of this park.
" Lalo, come on, you have enough souvenirs" Jenny-Lynn says, wings on her hips as she keeps an eye on her fister in the gift shop in Cheticamp.
"What's this Acadian thing?" Gus asks Hulk, "reading a sign mounted in town square
"Acadians are of mixed decent, French and other races. They came here from Louisiana"
"So we can get some Cajun cookin here? Let's go get something to eat!" Gus replies happily
"Wait for us" Susan and Snowy yell as they weave through the crowd of horses and riders." can't pass on a greyt meal"
Angel Girl continues to check their supplies list preparing to head to their next camp site.."Oh we need more eggs and oatmeal." She gives the list to Sky who heads off to gather all they need from the store near by.
"This place is beautiful" SamIam comments, looking out over the ocean, :has a historic appeal to it."
" I have everything we need. We better ride out before it gets too dark: Sky tells Angel Girl
"Ok, let's mount up birdies, time to head into the mountains."

Day 17--A Whale of a Good Time
Good morning everyone, Happy Humpday. Today we will finish our trip along the coast. Arrangements were made for our horses and supplies to be delivered to our newest camp site in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. It's sure been an awesome sight to see all the wild seabirds including Arctic Puffins and several Gull and Tern species. The Grey Seals were a playful surprise, however as many of us know their plight is sad as animal rights groups world-wide fight to ban the annual seal hunt. We had just set off when we were joined by a pod of playful, entertaining whales.
Spot lands eggspertly in his kayak, and waves at a whale! BonBon and Snowflake shriek and laugh as one of the whales 'blows' right next to them and they get showered!"Oh, no, we're covered in whale snot!" yells BonBon! Spot and the band of bros. laugh at them as they try to wipe off the stuff!
"That'll teach you to get too close to the whales! " says Spot.
Just then a whale comes up under Spot's kayak and dumps them into the water! The mama Whale says," it's not nice to laugh at the pretty girl birds! "
"Yes ma'am, we're sorry!" says Spot and the boys reply! He whispers to Panther," we better get out of here!"
"What an adventure! "says Panther." We could have been eaten by whales!"
Angel Girl laughs and says, "silly boys, whales don't eat birds!"
"Today we visit Cheticamp, Cape Breton, a famous Nova Scotia destination, known for it's whale sightings. The most frequent sightings are big Fin whales, dolphins, Minke whales, Humpback whales and Pilot whales. Seals and Puffins are observed on nearly every tour.
"hey look, spotted whales?" Puffin calls out, " look at the white spots"
"They are actually North Atlantic right whales which come here rarely with their calves for the summer from Florida and Georgia waters. Those white patches seen on the right whale's head are raised tissue that is actually dark in color called callosities. Whale lice or cyamids covering the callosities are what makes them appear white. " Sky explains
Little Peep and Rio stand tall to get abetter glimpse of the rare whales. Kiddo and Sweetpepper take photos of the whales as they surface close by. Pilot whales splash happily at the kayaking birdies, as they call in whale-enise to one another. " They're so cute" Kacey adds as she sketches a whale jumping out of the water on her art pad.
" These are so gentle yet so large" Mr Finnegan comments to Susan as they sit watching from their kayak.
" Until recently Whales were feared as being dangerous and aggressive, yet look, how gently they swim and play close to us." BB states as she snuggles with Sky to watch they giants of the ocean.
"Willie, did you get a good shot of that baby and her Momma?" Falco asks from across the group of kayaks bobbing softly in the calm waters.
"YEP! Mom's gonna love these pictures."
Reluctantly the group begins to paddle towards their next stop-over! Spot waves good-bye!

Birds are all happy here. Big project in the basement getting rid of cages we will never use again. I don't know why I kept them. They were difficult to clean and not very well made. Maybe I thought I might sell them, but I thought if I didn't want them, nobody else would want them either.

  DAy 16--Kayaking Adventures
Good morning everyone, Angel Girl here with today's post. The afternoon turned out perfect for kayaking along the coast line. We stop for lunch in a sheltered cove, where within minutes we are able to visit a nationally known Seabird nesting site. Here Terns, Gulls and other species nest noisily in the rocky cliffs and along the shoreline. As we enjoyed our lunch the sounds from the nesting birds was difficult to hear over.
"WOW, I can't believe how loud they are" Popeye yells to Chyna only inches away. The two girls laugh as neither can hear one another.
"Look" Cydney says pointing to a family of whales surfacing not far off shore. She snaps several pictures before joining Willie, Kaji, Lizzie and Cookie as they hike to the nesting grounds with the others. " Yuck!" she looks down, and sees she'd stepped in Sea Gull poop, " OH no, my new shoes!" she looks sadly at the mess. The others giggle
"Snowy!" Sky calls, come here buddy wanta show you something " a lobster" they look at the large clawed creature staring angrily back from a shallow pool of water among rocks. Let's help him back into the ocean." Sky says trying to pick the snapping Lobster." Snowy grabs a stick and lifts him up as he clamps down. " not such a nice fella are ya?" he laughs as Sky and him gently lower him into the surf.
"AHHHHHH, babies" Little Angel tells Dixie, " aren't they cute." they watch the fledglings trying to rise into the sky as clouds of white take off from the shore. " doesn't it make you just wanta have a baby to love too?" LA gets all dreamy eyed. "Maybe we can adopt a baby bird?" she smiles sweetly watching the youngsters.
Boo Boo and Cori take photos of the birds in flight, as Chipper and BonBon draw pictures in their sketchbooks. Spot and a few of the boys take off into the sky flying with the Seabirds, screaming happily with them.
"Ok, sorry everybirdie but we must move on. We have lots more to see" Angel Girl calls loudly, trying to be hear over the roar of bird voices. Reluctantly everyone says farewell to their new friends, as they head to the shore and get their kayak ready to move on. The whales continue to swim close to the shore as the group paddles off. Angel Girl shares a little history of ape Breton as they quietly paddle along.

In 1784, Britain split the colony of Nova Scotia into three separate colonies: New Brunswick, Cape Breton Island, and present-day peninsular Nova Scotia, in addition to the adjacent colonies of St. John's Island (renamed Prince Edward Island in 1798) and Newfoundland. The colony of Cape Breton Island had its capital at Sydney on its namesake harbor fronting on Spanish Bay and the Cabot Strait. Its first Lieutenant-Governor was Joseph Frederick Wallet DesBarres (1784–1787) and his successor was William Macarmick (1787).

A number of United Empire Loyalists emigrated to the Canadian colonies, including Cape Breton. David Mathews, the former Mayor of New York City during the American Revolution, emigrated with h

day 13--Welcome to Inverness & its County
Hello everybirdie, Angel Girl here from Inverness, Cape Breton Island. Before we begin I want to ask that everybirdie continue in prayer. We have an urgent request from one of our BC family who wish to remain anonymous at this time. Their sweet baby is in critical, life & death crisis. Also our BC Queen Chuey is not feeling well, although there seems to be some improvement day so ask for continued prayers.
After a mix-up due to Chuey's need for immediate medical care, the wedding of Tiamaria Ganster to my frother Casey went on. It was to be rescheduled, sorry for the mix-up. They will be holding a reception later in the month to celebrate. Rev Spot did an awesome job of performing his very first Celtic wedding.
Now that we have relocated to Inverness ( Scottish Gaelic: Baile Inbhir Nis), a small rural community of approximately 3000 persons.

Located on the west coast of Cape Breton Island fronting the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Inverness sits astride a small coal seam which was exploited from the late 19th century to the mid-late 20th century, beginning with a mine opened by William Mackenzie and Donald Mann during the 1890s after they achieved control of the Inverness and Richmond Railway. Several more mines opened in and near Inverness during the early 20th century, but many closed following World War II with the last one closing in the early 1990s following a fire.

The community was incorporated as a town in 1904. It experienced economic hardship since large scale industrial coal mining ended; the local economy is now based mainly on fishing and tourism. Inverness Raceway was established in 1926, and harness races are held twice weekly between May and October. North America's only true links golf course, the (200-acre (0.81 km2)) Cabot Links is located on the former coal mine and overlooks beautiful sandy beaches. Inverness County is like an unspoken guardian of Cape Breton Island’s Celtic traditions. Its tiny communities are teeming with pride and a genuine way of life that has maintained Gaelic traditions throughout the years. There are many Celtic treasures and traditions waiting to be discovered in Inverness County, from its lively community dances to its well-known outdoor music concerts. The sunset side of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia seems to whisper all things Gaelic.

"WOW, this is so beautiful" Cinn-A-Bunn says taking in the panoramic view of Inverness and county. " Look at the ocean, how blue it is from up here on the mountainside." Zippy adds taking photos.

The birds take in the scene set out before them. Starting tomorrow they will be busily eggploring many interesting and fun adventures.

Day 10--The Greyt Race to the Finishline
Wow, what a spectacular fireworks display last evening over the ocean. After a day of dancing, playing instruments and dining on fine Scottish cuisine, a relaxing rest on the beach, as the skies filled with color was the perfect ending.
Today is the Triathlon. We're up bright and early to warm up for the Greyt Race. We'll splash in the ocean, ride our horse over rough terrain and finally fly or waddle to the finish. This evening we will continue down the Celtic Trail to Inverness, where we will spend two days exploring the area, and taking part in a wonderful, SURPRISE WEDDING. YES, a wedding. My frother MR Casey Thrift will wed his darling Tiamaria in an ocean-view outdoor ceremony, followed by a reception in the Parish courtyard of St John's Church. Everybirdie is invited to join them on this special occasion as they exchange their vows of love in true Scottish style. The ceremony will take place at 7PM EST on my page # 224627
The ocean is calm, and blue as we ride off to the starting line of today's cross country Triathlon. Pearl, and Silver have been practicing since sign up earlier in the week and are the two to watch for. Snowy, Cydney, Strawberry and TiPaul are strong splashers for the first leg of the three event competition. Sky and BB, Kiddo, Cori and Pepper have been working on their horse-birdship skills and we expect some awesome results from them. In the final leg Susan, Sweetpepper, Dixie, Little Angel, aka lightening-streak, and Raffi are rearing to show their stuff.
The whistle goes to signal the start. All the birdies are lined up as the starting pistol sounds. As a flock they run to the waters edge, wings out, water splashing far and high, they show their best efforts. Pearl dives beak first into the water, sending ripples in all directions, Casey puts his toes in and backs out, " Too cold for me" "Come' on sweetie" Tiamaria calls, splashing intot he surf fearlessly. Thoroughly soaked they wade towards the waiting horses hitched on shore. Casey is still not wet, and Tiamaria is splashing him as fast as her wings will beat.
TiPaul bolts off the ground onto Lightning as is riding towards the rocky hills at the end of the beach with Sky in hot pursuit. BB waves as she charges her horse past the group, up the hill, and starts along the Celtic trail. Sugar and Thorin are closing in fast, as Chyna and Dyna-Dancer take second position. Here comes Boo Boo on Starfire, she's pushin' into third position. Sky takes the lead and arrives at the third event start.
Sky never looks back, but is off at a fast waddle, Sugar jumps clear of Thorin and is on the run, quickly catchin' up to Sky Boy. BB stops to catch her breath as she dismounts and begins the last leg. Spot, coming to a screeching stop, jumps right over Hulk is has gotten off to a quick start. Here comes Miss Chipper, she flies over the runners heads to take second position as they begin their climb up the hillside.

  Day 8--Chestico Festival dance lessons
Hello everybirdie; What a greyt time we had on the beach. The bikini competition was amazing, and we only had to pull three of the boys off the stage. LOL! It was so much fun getting a chance to see all the latest European styles and designs. Between the warm surf and the savory foods it has been an eggciting visit in Port Hood. Today we get our chance to watch, and try our talented talons in some Celtic dancing, and maybe even put our beaks to the bagpipes and play some Gaelic tunes. The Interpretative Celtic Music Center is open to visitors, who can try not only the bagpipes, but also their wings at being a drummer as well.
"Hey L'il Angel, what are you dressed like that for?" Angel Girl asks her fister, eying up Little Angel's new Celtic tartan kilt.
"I'm going to take Highland dancin' lessons today" L'il Angel says putting her tam on her head and looking at herself in her mirror.
"Dixie? Are you ready sweetheart?" L'il Angel yells into the tent door.
Slowly Dixie exits the tent, his face blushed red. He looks around quickly making sure the coast is clear. HE is wearing a kilt too, complete with a sash over hi shoulders. " We're taking Scottish dance lessons" It was then that Dixie saw that many of the other birds were sporting kilts in various Tartans ( Clan colors).
"See, we all are had the same idea" Sky says walking past in his kilt (Feileadh-beag - pr: feela beg). Sky stands tall, and smiles. "It's birdly. It's not a dress Dixie!"
"Hi SamIAm, you off to the bagpipe lessons?" Kaji asks, reining in his horse, " That's were Lizzie Pookie and I are riding too. Com' on with us"
The birds mount up and head off to the Music center and the MacInnis Sportsplex. There is Celtic music, dancing demonstrations and more Scottish foods to try today. Tomorrow is the Triathlon. Many famous fiddle-players, Celtic musicians from as far away as Scotland, British Columbia, Canada and the USA have arrived for the days concerts, lessons and fun.
At the Celtic Music Center, Snowflake, Little Angel, Cookie and Cydney stand as the instructor Patricia Chafe shows them the first dance steps. 'Ok, one, two, three..." Little Angel takes the first two steps then suddenly making a quick turn on one foot, she trips sending Cydney falling into Snowflake. The three girls giggle as they lay on the floor in a jumbled heap at Cookie's feet. "Ok, let's try this again. Maybe you should stand over here, Little Angel" Pat says, walking her to the other side of the line. The three girls do the steps again, perfectly. Then the others join them, as the fiddles play a quick tune. The laughing birdies have lots of fun, learning to dance. After a few lessons, they sit down to watch some experienced dancers for a while. " We did greyt" Dixie says happily as he hugs LA close.
"Ok Sky and BB. You're turn" The music starts as they take center floor. Sky leads BB in a graceful Highland Waltz. Everybirdie applauds their performance. "WE practiced!"Angel Girl 224627

  Day 7--Port Hood beach fun
Hello, and good morning to all our BC friends. I must first make a quick apology for missing two days of blogs. In my gallery I will be posting photos of the "tree" that has been to topic of our absence recently. Now, with it cut down, removed and cleaned up things are getting back on track. I want to thank everyone for their votes and support in my absence.
"Oh look" Angel Girl points to the beach spread out for miles along the blue ocean edge. Kicking Celtic Lass gently in the ribs to urge her into a trot she rides towards the shade of a row of Maples edging the beach. As far as the eye can see there are sand sculptured bikini clad forms, and beautiful birds dressed in imported swimwear.
" SKY? What are you looking at so attentively ?" BB asked already knowing her Sky with his black-out sunglasses was taking in the food booths. "See, if it were any other bird he'd be watching the girl-birds playing beach volleyball. LOL!" BB tells Lalo and Jinny riding beside them. Sweetie giggles at her frother.
"I'm taking a swim with Firestorm" Cinn-A-Bunn yells galloping towards the surf, Boo Boo, Polly, Zippy and Rio race after him.
" We're off to check out the, AHHHHHHHH, beach" Pearl and Silver say giggling and jumping off their horses, hitching them in the shade.
CuBird and Snowflake grab their towels as they make their way to the water's edge. Little Peep hurries to catch up. Angel Girl watches her friends for a moment before deciding that she'd like to get a snow-cone. "Anyone wanta join me in a snowcone?" Chyna, Chipper and Lizzie think it's a greyt idea so the four girls take off in search of the snow-cone booth.
"Well Dixie, let's set up our towel, and sit in the sun. It'll make your legs and feet feel better. Then I'll go get us ice cream cones." L'il Angel smiles, leaning over to give Dixie a big kiss and whispers, " and some popcorn" Dixie grins, thinking of how often they'd sat together eating popcorn as they enjoyed a movie.
Port Hood is well known for it's miles of sandy beaches. The warm ocean water and scenic landscape some of the most beautiful in the world. During the Chestico Days, Tartan colors can be seen all down the beach, flying above booths selling clothes, food and sovereigns.
Tia and Casey wander down the beach wing in wing. They have been very quiet so far this trip, spending almost every minute with their heads close togetehr talking. " I wonder what's up with those two lovebirds?" Sugar says to Gus and Susan. They return to their important business of shopping for keepsakes of their trip to Cape Breton.
"Hey Spot, where's BonBon?" Falco asks.
"Not certain, but last I saw her, she was splashing in the waves with Raffi, Angel, Pepper and Sweetpepper. They were over there near the stage for the Bikini competition"
Falco walks in that direction, zig-zagging to avoid birdies tanning on the beach.

  Day 5--Port Hood Chestico Festival
Hello everyone, With the horses saddled and our gear on the pack horses we are off to Port Hood, our first stop on the Celtic Trail. Port Hood is a vibrant, seaside community on the west coast of Cape Breton Island, and the capital of Inverness County, Nova Scotia ,approximately 30 minutes north from the Canso Causeway. With miles of sandy beaches on the warmest waters in eastern Canada. Also the home of NHL Hall of Famer Al MacInnis, CFL champion Bruce Beaton, the late “Godfather of Celtic Music” John Allan Cameron, and former Olympian Duncan Gillis, not to mention 2008 Canadian Idol runner-up, Mitch MacDonald!
" I smell Lobsters cooking" Sky sniffs the breeze as we ride into Port Hood.
"You and your belly!' BB teases tickling Sky in the ribs as she rides next to him along the scenic trail into town.
"Jenny-Lynn, wait up" Sweetie yells as she gets Dusty to run," we'll find the banks no problem" Sweetie giggles, then grins innocently as JL looks down at her and smiles. " AH, you're a real Zon girl now"
We're in time for the Triathalon" Angel Girl Points to the big overhead sign, " let's sign up"
"What about the Lobster dinner?" Sky asks disappointment in his voice."there's a Lobster Festival today"
"Sugar, let's go sign up then stop in at that jewellery store" Cori and Boo Boo say, " I want to pick up something for my Mom.
Reaching the MacInnes SportPlex, the birds file in, those wishing to, sign up for the Triathalon. Being visitors, a special category is added to the event-splash in the water, horse-back ride and then running or flying the third portion of the event.
"WOW, this'll be fun" Chyna says as she and Falco head outside to their horses waiting in the shade.
"Can we eat now?" Sky asks BB, as they follow behind to their mounts " I'm starved. It's been an hour or more since I ate breakfast"
Once everybirdie is mounted, they ride into the city, to take part in the Lobster Picnic Festival. Fresh, local lobsters, salads and BBQ burgers are filling the air with delicious images. " We'll all get to try some of the local Lobsters, cooked in various ways, plus for those of us who don't like sea-food, we have Angus Burgers too." Angel Girl announces. The air is filled with Celtic fiddle music, adding a touch of Scotland.
"After lunch can we visit some of the five beaches that make up this area?" Miranda asks, through a beakful of Lobster salad, " heard they are having a Sand Bikini event"
"Count us all in'"the boys say " we can make our own bikini sculptures to enter the contest. It is part of the Chestico Festival taking place."
"you can be one of our bikini models" Kiddo tells Sweetpepper" kissing her softly as they enjoy their lunch.
"Let's look around at the shops. I wanta find myself a Tartan cap" Kaji adds
"Let's get done lunch then we can all go enjoy Port Hood and later meet at the beach for some serious fun in the sun." Angel Girl states happily, eggcited to enjoy the Festival and events.

Day 3--Port Hastings and the Celtic Trail
Good morning to everybirdie; Angel Girl here with today's BOTM update. The sun rose red and orange on the horizon over historic Cape Breton. Lizzie, BB and Kaji had a greyt breakfast on the go, as we birdies took down our tents, and packed up our belongings, to be carried by the pack horses to our next stop, Port Hastings. With the missing FLARES, still unaccounted for, and TiPaul, Dixie and Cori keeping a watchful eye on L'il Angel we mounted up as the sun turned the sky a brilliant blue over the water.
The deep water of the Strait of Canso at the village of Port Hastings was the reason the Inverness and Richmond Coal Pier was constructed here in 1902. Historians find many interesting facts in our records kept at the Archives of the Hastings, Cape Breton Museum. Here we find photos taken of the construction of the bridge connecting mainland Nova Scotia with the Cape Breton Island. The Canso Causeway was built at a narrow location on the Strait of Canso, several miles northwest of Port Hawkesbury and Mulgrave, crossing from Cape Porcupine near Auld's Cove on the Nova Scotia side to Port Hastings on the Cape Breton side. Approximately 10,092,000 t (9,933,000 long tons) of rock for building the causeway was quarried from a mountain on Cape Porcupine.
"Hey, let's go to the Museum and take a look at some of the historic photos of the area." Boo Boo suggests
"Awesome idea. Then we can ride down the Celtic Trail. The Celtic Shores Coastal Trail is a 92-km (57 mi) multi-use trail stretching from Port Hastings to the Town of Inverness on the west coast.
The flat trail meanders along the coastline, through picturesque wilderness, skirts streams, and connects several communities and attractions. Along the way you will find active fishing harbors, warm-water beaches in Port Hood, West Mabou, and Inverness, the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre in Judique along with five other museums, Glenora Distillery, and the not-to-be-missed Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, with the best live Celtic music on the island and unique living Gaelic culture. We'll be camping at Mabou for a few days to explore all the area." Angel Girl Slaps Gaelic Lass on the shoulder, and heads off towards the Museum.
" Angel? Are we going to be stopping at the beach for a swim today?" Raffi asks
'Greyt idea. Tell the others that after the museum we'll ride to the beach for a while before heading down the Trail" Raffikki turns Sun-Dancer and goes to tell the birds of the day's plans.
"Sky, wanta race? Little Angela asks a twinkle in her eye." If I win you help pitch our tent. If I lose I'll make you supper tonight"
"Ok, you're on" Sky yells galloping off of Chief at top speed. Little Angel rides twinkle after him, urging her horse on. She passes Sky and whips around the corner to come in first at the museum. " I win!"
"I let you. Better me pitch your tent, then you cook for BB and I" Sky laughs at the hotty look on L'il Angels face.

Day 2 --Welcome to Cape Breton Island part 2
Welcome everybirdie to beautiful, historic Nova Scotia, Canada. We begin in Port Hawkesbury a town located on the southwestern end of Cape Breton Island, on the north shore of the Strait of Canso. The town was originally named Ship Harbor (after the harbor upon which it is located) and is largely a service center for western Cape Breton Island .
Port Hawkesbury has a rich Celtic heritage and beautiful rugged landscape, the perfect place to begin our tour. The sloping mountainous landscape, descending to rocky ocean shores is breathtaking, the perfect backdrop for camping and adventures. Talking about adventures, "has anybirdie seen Little Angel?"
Falco " I saw her and Dixie trying to set up their tent." Falco points to a place close to the look out over the water.
"Ok, as long as we know we haven't misplaced her we're ok."
"Angel Girl, We set up a rope corral for the horses. Maybe before dark we can go look around Port Hawkesbury, shop and pick up anything we may have forgotten?" Sky adds, thinking of looking for some pickles in the city grocery stores.
" OK, let's finish setting up camp then, and we can walk the short distance into the city. Make sure you all have a flashlight and batteries, just in case you need to make the trip to the little birdie's room in the middle of the night" Angel Girl instructed as she started to hammer the pegs for her tent into the ground.
Suddenly there was a scream , shattering the calm chatter of the eggcited birds. "Little Angel!" Angel Girl yells, dropping her hammer and running to where she had last seen L'il Angel and Dixie working on their tent. Everyone had turned at the sudden yell, rushing to see what had happened.
Angel Girl began to laugh as she saw the predicament that her fister was in this time.
"Wait! We'll get you out Little Angel" she said, trying to stop laughing. There was Little Angel caught up in the tent, rolled up like a cabbage roll. Her head and toes sticking out each end.
"How'd you get into a mess like this?" Sweetpepper asked arriving to help
"Don't even ask" Dixie said, shaking his head. " she said she knew how to set it up, so she climbed inside to get the poles in place and suddenly, POOF, she was wrapped up like this" Dixie tries not to giggle at the mess his wife-bird got into, but it sure was hard. Little Angel was squirming to get free, but instead the tent was getting even more tangled up.
With much effort and work Little Angel was freed from the tent, and with the help of Kiddo, Sky and Dixie, the tent was up, and ready to go. Little Angel sat wings crossed as she watched, annoyed that the tent had tried to east her on the very first day. "Oh come on Sweetie" Dixie says, taking her by the wing,"we will go take a look around. Maybe we can find a souvenir."
Angel Girl leads the way into the city, "Let's stay together so no birdie gets lost" looking at L'il Angel. "Tomorrow we begin our trip around the Island."

Day 1--Welcome to Cape Breton Island part 1
Hello everybirdie, my name is Angel Girl. I am a member of the SKY Flock, and this month's BOTM candidate. I would like to take this first day to introduce myself a little bit, and outline our month long trip to beautiful Cape Breton Island, Nova, Scotia, Canada.
I arrived at the Sky flock several years ago when my new owner became too afraid of me to keep me. I had lived with my first owner for the first five years of my life. I was born to his father's flock in the Barrie, Ontario area. I was a much loved, and pampered pet, who enjoyed the best of food, and attention. I even have a custom made large cage. When the relationship between my daddy and mommy fell apart I was posted for sale on the internet and ended up in Peterborough, Ontario,.
Why my new owner ever got me will forever be a mystery, but was, in part motivated by my Momma Deb telling her that she had wanted an African Grey for many years and was considering a clutch of Cameroons. My new owner had the very best of intentions, but lacked Parrot handling skills and experience. She was afraid of me, and when I made an escape from my cage, was unable to get me home again, and resorted to using a broom to "herd" me along. I came to hate the broom, as I was daily allowed out, but broomed back to my cage. Eventually I began to attack the broom, and the one holding it aggressively, biting and screaming my displeasure. After several months of war, my owner contacted my Momma Deb and asked her if she would take me in. My Momma Deb was very happy to go get me. She found me cowering in the back of the cage, locked in the back bedroom. I was quickly "caught up" with a towel and placed into a carrier. My cage and I were loaded up, and I was off to my new forever home.
It took a lot of work to get to the place were I trusted Momma Deb. She endured many hard bites, and one attack on that broom she was using to clean the floor. Since Momma Deb didn't give-up, I decided that I would trust her, and have since become Momma's special Girl. I have an extensive vocabulary of words, and sound effects, and I love singing my many songs. Enough about me.
This month we will be exploring Cape Breton Island, along the Cabot Trail by horse-back. IF any-birdie does not have a horse from CHUEY's BOTM Cattle Drive please let me know and we will round up one for you. We will be camping outdoors, enjoying many fun adventures, taking part in some Celtic festivals and games, and maybe even end up sparkled as my Fister Little Angel and Dixie Adler joy us for the trip. Pack up your camping gear, and ready to ride.
See everyone tomorrow as we take flight to Cape Breton. (SKY has transported our horses there by trailer).

  July 30th BOTM POST
Hello to all my BC friends. Zeena here with today's BOTM Post. Today we will take a look at one of natures most beautiful birds, also my Momma Deb's" dream-bird", the Hyacinth Macaw.
The largest species of macaw, Hyacinth grows to be up to 40 inches (1 m) long. The Hyacinth Macaw survives today in three known distinct population in southern Brazil, eastern Bolivia and northeastern Paraguay. In 1990, the wild population was estimated to be 2,500 birds. The world’s captive population is probably much larger, numbering in the thousands. Today, the wild population is less then 600 individuals. They are critically endangered in their native habitat.
Of the 145 species of parrot in Central and South America, 45 are in danger of extinction. All 18 species of macaws are threatened. The primary causes are habitat loss and heavy exploitation for the pet trade. The Hyacinth Macaw is especially vulnerable to capture and habitat destruction because it is noisy, intrinsically fearless, predictable, and dependent on palm trees. Hyacinth Macaws do not breed every year even under the best circumstances, so the predation on chicks is particularly bad for the species’ survival. Since captured young survive so poorly (up to 99 percent die between capture and final sale), adults are sometimes trapped through liming of perches or use of baited clap-nets. Still, for every macaw that arrives safely abroad, it is likely that five died on the way.
The United States is the largest market for the exotic pet trade. In the last decade, 8.5 million birds, at least 85 percent of birds captured in the wild, were imported or smuggled into the United States. Even when the export of birds is controlled, the domestic bird trade often is not regulated. Another threat to the Hyacinth Macaw is the increased commercial sale of feather art by the Kayapo Indians of Gorotire in southern Brazil. The feathers from up to 10 Hyacinth Macaws are needed to make one headdress. In addition, ranchers kill Macaws because they believe that Hyacinths damage palm trees, which ranchers use for fenceposts, and scare cattle with their noisy behavior. In some places, local people still hunt Macaws for meat. Add to this clear-cutting of Rainforest and you can see the danger the Hyacinth population has to becoming extinct within the next decade.
Compound all the above and it is easy to calculate that their best chance of survival as a species is through captive breeding. Selling in Canada at upwards to $40,000US each these beauties of the Rainforest will remain one the worlds most desired Macaw species.
One more Question for Thought.
It is often people’s love of animals that causes them to desire exotic animal pets. What can be done to educate pet owners about the impacts of wild-caught birds and other animals?

Hello to all my BC friends. Zeena here with today's BOTM Post. Today we will take a look at one of natures most beautiful birds, also my Momma Deb's" dream-bird", the Hyacinth Macaw.
The largest species of macaw, the brilliant-blue hyacinth grows to be up to 40 inches (1 m) long. The hyacinth macaw survives today in three known distinct population in southern Brazil, eastern Bolivia and northeastern Paraguay. It is possible that smaller, fragmented populations occur in other areas of its range. In 1990, the wild population was estimated to be 2,500 birds. The world’s captive population is probably much larger, numbering in the thousands. Today, the wild population is less then 600 individuals. They are critically endangered in their native habitat.

  July 29th BOTM POST
Hello to all my dear BC friends, Zeena here with today's BOTM POST. Today we will take a look in brief at a touchy subject that has people lined up on both sides of the debate. It involves the breeders verses conservationists. I am not sharing this to side with either group, but as a general interest topic. These are exerts from an interview with Tony Silva a world renowned expert of Aviculture.
Interviewer; In light of all the talk about breeders, verses the conservationist groups, how can we make our legislators, the animal rights radicals, and the conservation elitists, understand that what we as private aviculturists do, is valuable and should be encouraged, not strangled with laws and regulations which in the end, will result in extinction, not preservation, of exotic birds?

Tony Silva: "We need an active, strong avicultural industry. Breeders must be allowed to breed for the pet industry, unimpeded by regulations and laws that simply do not work for us or the birds. The birds we raise for the pet industry supports the work we do with endangered species. And we have to do this, because third world countries don't care about what happens to their birds, they simply don't care. We have to look at individual species like the Spix. If it weren't for private aviculture, there would be no Spix Macaws. And the Brazilian government recognizes this! They say, 'Look, we don't care if we ever reintroduce Spix Macaws. We're just happy that authorities say we'll still have the species around, even if it's not in the jungle. '
Interviewer; Has the establishment of the CITES treaty curbed the exploitation of wild Parrots

Tony Silva: I never would have thought imports would stop, because to these countries, birds are a renewable resource. In Southern Argentina a number of years ago, they were packaging up Patagonian Conures in cans and selling them to the Japanese as delicacies because nobody wanted to buy them as pets or to breed.

Look at the Tucuman Amazon. It is so rare they are difficult to locate in their habitat or aviculture. Officials in their range gave permits to shoot them because they were raiding the cornfields . Then there's the Scarlet Macaw in Surinam. It is on CITES Appendix I, but it is perfectly legal to bag up to 3 a day. The natives use them for food. Trade in birds' countries of origin will go on because these people have to survive. There is such a lack of education -- and you're going to tell them not to shoot this or that bird, or to protect this tree! And people won't believe this unless they see it. It's like the Hyacinth Macaw study. The researchers have a few lunches with bird trappers and gives their opinions as first-hand knowledge. But it's not accurate. Without captive breeding many species of Parrots the world over will cease to be in the next ten years. We need breeders to guarantee there will be any Parrots left in the end.
