day 13--Welcome to Inverness & its County
Hello everybirdie, Angel Girl here from Inverness, Cape Breton Island. Before we begin I want to ask that everybirdie continue in prayer. We have an urgent request from one of our BC family who wish to remain anonymous at this time. Their sweet baby is in critical, life & death crisis. Also our BC Queen Chuey is not feeling well, although there seems to be some improvement day so ask for continued prayers.
After a mix-up due to Chuey's need for immediate medical care, the wedding of Tiamaria Ganster to my frother Casey went on. It was to be rescheduled, sorry for the mix-up. They will be holding a reception later in the month to celebrate. Rev Spot did an awesome job of performing his very first Celtic wedding.
Now that we have relocated to Inverness ( Scottish Gaelic: Baile Inbhir Nis), a small rural community of approximately 3000 persons.

Located on the west coast of Cape Breton Island fronting the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Inverness sits astride a small coal seam which was exploited from the late 19th century to the mid-late 20th century, beginning with a mine opened by William Mackenzie and Donald Mann during the 1890s after they achieved control of the Inverness and Richmond Railway. Several more mines opened in and near Inverness during the early 20th century, but many closed following World War II with the last one closing in the early 1990s following a fire.

The community was incorporated as a town in 1904. It experienced economic hardship since large scale industrial coal mining ended; the local economy is now based mainly on fishing and tourism. Inverness Raceway was established in 1926, and harness races are held twice weekly between May and October. North America's only true links golf course, the (200-acre (0.81 km2)) Cabot Links is located on the former coal mine and overlooks beautiful sandy beaches. Inverness County is like an unspoken guardian of Cape Breton Island’s Celtic traditions. Its tiny communities are teeming with pride and a genuine way of life that has maintained Gaelic traditions throughout the years. There are many Celtic treasures and traditions waiting to be discovered in Inverness County, from its lively community dances to its well-known outdoor music concerts. The sunset side of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia seems to whisper all things Gaelic.

"WOW, this is so beautiful" Cinn-A-Bunn says taking in the panoramic view of Inverness and county. " Look at the ocean, how blue it is from up here on the mountainside." Zippy adds taking photos.

The birds take in the scene set out before them. Starting tomorrow they will be busily eggploring many interesting and fun adventures.

Day 10--The Greyt Race to the Finishline
Wow, what a spectacular fireworks display last evening over the ocean. After a day of dancing, playing instruments and dining on fine Scottish cuisine, a relaxing rest on the beach, as the skies filled with color was the perfect ending.
Today is the Triathlon. We're up bright and early to warm up for the Greyt Race. We'll splash in the ocean, ride our horse over rough terrain and finally fly or waddle to the finish. This evening we will continue down the Celtic Trail to Inverness, where we will spend two days exploring the area, and taking part in a wonderful, SURPRISE WEDDING. YES, a wedding. My frother MR Casey Thrift will wed his darling Tiamaria in an ocean-view outdoor ceremony, followed by a reception in the Parish courtyard of St John's Church. Everybirdie is invited to join them on this special occasion as they exchange their vows of love in true Scottish style. The ceremony will take place at 7PM EST on my page # 224627
The ocean is calm, and blue as we ride off to the starting line of today's cross country Triathlon. Pearl, and Silver have been practicing since sign up earlier in the week and are the two to watch for. Snowy, Cydney, Strawberry and TiPaul are strong splashers for the first leg of the three event competition. Sky and BB, Kiddo, Cori and Pepper have been working on their horse-birdship skills and we expect some awesome results from them. In the final leg Susan, Sweetpepper, Dixie, Little Angel, aka lightening-streak, and Raffi are rearing to show their stuff.
The whistle goes to signal the start. All the birdies are lined up as the starting pistol sounds. As a flock they run to the waters edge, wings out, water splashing far and high, they show their best efforts. Pearl dives beak first into the water, sending ripples in all directions, Casey puts his toes in and backs out, " Too cold for me" "Come' on sweetie" Tiamaria calls, splashing intot he surf fearlessly. Thoroughly soaked they wade towards the waiting horses hitched on shore. Casey is still not wet, and Tiamaria is splashing him as fast as her wings will beat.
TiPaul bolts off the ground onto Lightning as is riding towards the rocky hills at the end of the beach with Sky in hot pursuit. BB waves as she charges her horse past the group, up the hill, and starts along the Celtic trail. Sugar and Thorin are closing in fast, as Chyna and Dyna-Dancer take second position. Here comes Boo Boo on Starfire, she's pushin' into third position. Sky takes the lead and arrives at the third event start.
Sky never looks back, but is off at a fast waddle, Sugar jumps clear of Thorin and is on the run, quickly catchin' up to Sky Boy. BB stops to catch her breath as she dismounts and begins the last leg. Spot, coming to a screeching stop, jumps right over Hulk is has gotten off to a quick start. Here comes Miss Chipper, she flies over the runners heads to take second position as they begin their climb up the hillside.

  Day 8--Chestico Festival dance lessons
Hello everybirdie; What a greyt time we had on the beach. The bikini competition was amazing, and we only had to pull three of the boys off the stage. LOL! It was so much fun getting a chance to see all the latest European styles and designs. Between the warm surf and the savory foods it has been an eggciting visit in Port Hood. Today we get our chance to watch, and try our talented talons in some Celtic dancing, and maybe even put our beaks to the bagpipes and play some Gaelic tunes. The Interpretative Celtic Music Center is open to visitors, who can try not only the bagpipes, but also their wings at being a drummer as well.
"Hey L'il Angel, what are you dressed like that for?" Angel Girl asks her fister, eying up Little Angel's new Celtic tartan kilt.
"I'm going to take Highland dancin' lessons today" L'il Angel says putting her tam on her head and looking at herself in her mirror.
"Dixie? Are you ready sweetheart?" L'il Angel yells into the tent door.
Slowly Dixie exits the tent, his face blushed red. He looks around quickly making sure the coast is clear. HE is wearing a kilt too, complete with a sash over hi shoulders. " We're taking Scottish dance lessons" It was then that Dixie saw that many of the other birds were sporting kilts in various Tartans ( Clan colors).
"See, we all are had the same idea" Sky says walking past in his kilt (Feileadh-beag - pr: feela beg). Sky stands tall, and smiles. "It's birdly. It's not a dress Dixie!"
"Hi SamIAm, you off to the bagpipe lessons?" Kaji asks, reining in his horse, " That's were Lizzie Pookie and I are riding too. Com' on with us"
The birds mount up and head off to the Music center and the MacInnis Sportsplex. There is Celtic music, dancing demonstrations and more Scottish foods to try today. Tomorrow is the Triathlon. Many famous fiddle-players, Celtic musicians from as far away as Scotland, British Columbia, Canada and the USA have arrived for the days concerts, lessons and fun.
At the Celtic Music Center, Snowflake, Little Angel, Cookie and Cydney stand as the instructor Patricia Chafe shows them the first dance steps. 'Ok, one, two, three..." Little Angel takes the first two steps then suddenly making a quick turn on one foot, she trips sending Cydney falling into Snowflake. The three girls giggle as they lay on the floor in a jumbled heap at Cookie's feet. "Ok, let's try this again. Maybe you should stand over here, Little Angel" Pat says, walking her to the other side of the line. The three girls do the steps again, perfectly. Then the others join them, as the fiddles play a quick tune. The laughing birdies have lots of fun, learning to dance. After a few lessons, they sit down to watch some experienced dancers for a while. " We did greyt" Dixie says happily as he hugs LA close.
"Ok Sky and BB. You're turn" The music starts as they take center floor. Sky leads BB in a graceful Highland Waltz. Everybirdie applauds their performance. "WE practiced!"Angel Girl 224627

  Day 7--Port Hood beach fun
Hello, and good morning to all our BC friends. I must first make a quick apology for missing two days of blogs. In my gallery I will be posting photos of the "tree" that has been to topic of our absence recently. Now, with it cut down, removed and cleaned up things are getting back on track. I want to thank everyone for their votes and support in my absence.
"Oh look" Angel Girl points to the beach spread out for miles along the blue ocean edge. Kicking Celtic Lass gently in the ribs to urge her into a trot she rides towards the shade of a row of Maples edging the beach. As far as the eye can see there are sand sculptured bikini clad forms, and beautiful birds dressed in imported swimwear.
" SKY? What are you looking at so attentively ?" BB asked already knowing her Sky with his black-out sunglasses was taking in the food booths. "See, if it were any other bird he'd be watching the girl-birds playing beach volleyball. LOL!" BB tells Lalo and Jinny riding beside them. Sweetie giggles at her frother.
"I'm taking a swim with Firestorm" Cinn-A-Bunn yells galloping towards the surf, Boo Boo, Polly, Zippy and Rio race after him.
" We're off to check out the, AHHHHHHHH, beach" Pearl and Silver say giggling and jumping off their horses, hitching them in the shade.
CuBird and Snowflake grab their towels as they make their way to the water's edge. Little Peep hurries to catch up. Angel Girl watches her friends for a moment before deciding that she'd like to get a snow-cone. "Anyone wanta join me in a snowcone?" Chyna, Chipper and Lizzie think it's a greyt idea so the four girls take off in search of the snow-cone booth.
"Well Dixie, let's set up our towel, and sit in the sun. It'll make your legs and feet feel better. Then I'll go get us ice cream cones." L'il Angel smiles, leaning over to give Dixie a big kiss and whispers, " and some popcorn" Dixie grins, thinking of how often they'd sat together eating popcorn as they enjoyed a movie.
Port Hood is well known for it's miles of sandy beaches. The warm ocean water and scenic landscape some of the most beautiful in the world. During the Chestico Days, Tartan colors can be seen all down the beach, flying above booths selling clothes, food and sovereigns.
Tia and Casey wander down the beach wing in wing. They have been very quiet so far this trip, spending almost every minute with their heads close togetehr talking. " I wonder what's up with those two lovebirds?" Sugar says to Gus and Susan. They return to their important business of shopping for keepsakes of their trip to Cape Breton.
"Hey Spot, where's BonBon?" Falco asks.
"Not certain, but last I saw her, she was splashing in the waves with Raffi, Angel, Pepper and Sweetpepper. They were over there near the stage for the Bikini competition"
Falco walks in that direction, zig-zagging to avoid birdies tanning on the beach.

Day 3--Port Hastings and the Celtic Trail
Good morning to everybirdie; Angel Girl here with today's BOTM update. The sun rose red and orange on the horizon over historic Cape Breton. Lizzie, BB and Kaji had a greyt breakfast on the go, as we birdies took down our tents, and packed up our belongings, to be carried by the pack horses to our next stop, Port Hastings. With the missing FLARES, still unaccounted for, and TiPaul, Dixie and Cori keeping a watchful eye on L'il Angel we mounted up as the sun turned the sky a brilliant blue over the water.
The deep water of the Strait of Canso at the village of Port Hastings was the reason the Inverness and Richmond Coal Pier was constructed here in 1902. Historians find many interesting facts in our records kept at the Archives of the Hastings, Cape Breton Museum. Here we find photos taken of the construction of the bridge connecting mainland Nova Scotia with the Cape Breton Island. The Canso Causeway was built at a narrow location on the Strait of Canso, several miles northwest of Port Hawkesbury and Mulgrave, crossing from Cape Porcupine near Auld's Cove on the Nova Scotia side to Port Hastings on the Cape Breton side. Approximately 10,092,000 t (9,933,000 long tons) of rock for building the causeway was quarried from a mountain on Cape Porcupine.
"Hey, let's go to the Museum and take a look at some of the historic photos of the area." Boo Boo suggests
"Awesome idea. Then we can ride down the Celtic Trail. The Celtic Shores Coastal Trail is a 92-km (57 mi) multi-use trail stretching from Port Hastings to the Town of Inverness on the west coast.
The flat trail meanders along the coastline, through picturesque wilderness, skirts streams, and connects several communities and attractions. Along the way you will find active fishing harbors, warm-water beaches in Port Hood, West Mabou, and Inverness, the Celtic Music Interpretive Centre in Judique along with five other museums, Glenora Distillery, and the not-to-be-missed Red Shoe Pub in Mabou, with the best live Celtic music on the island and unique living Gaelic culture. We'll be camping at Mabou for a few days to explore all the area." Angel Girl Slaps Gaelic Lass on the shoulder, and heads off towards the Museum.
" Angel? Are we going to be stopping at the beach for a swim today?" Raffi asks
'Greyt idea. Tell the others that after the museum we'll ride to the beach for a while before heading down the Trail" Raffikki turns Sun-Dancer and goes to tell the birds of the day's plans.
"Sky, wanta race? Little Angela asks a twinkle in her eye." If I win you help pitch our tent. If I lose I'll make you supper tonight"
"Ok, you're on" Sky yells galloping off of Chief at top speed. Little Angel rides twinkle after him, urging her horse on. She passes Sky and whips around the corner to come in first at the museum. " I win!"
"I let you. Better me pitch your tent, then you cook for BB and I" Sky laughs at the hotty look on L'il Angels face.

Historians may find many interesting facts in our records kept at the Archives of the Hastings, Cape Breton Museum. Herew e can find photos taken of the construction of the bridge connecting mainland Nova Scotia with the Cape Breton Island.

Day 2 --Welcome to Cape Breton Island part 2
Welcome everybirdie to beautiful, historic Nova Scotia, Canada. We begin in Port Hawkesbury a town located on the southwestern end of Cape Breton Island, on the north shore of the Strait of Canso. The town was originally named Ship Harbor (after the harbor upon which it is located) and is largely a service center for western Cape Breton Island .
Port Hawkesbury has a rich Celtic heritage and beautiful rugged landscape, the perfect place to begin our tour. The sloping mountainous landscape, descending to rocky ocean shores is breathtaking, the perfect backdrop for camping and adventures. Talking about adventures, "has anybirdie seen Little Angel?"
Falco " I saw her and Dixie trying to set up their tent." Falco points to a place close to the look out over the water.
"Ok, as long as we know we haven't misplaced her we're ok."
"Angel Girl, We set up a rope corral for the horses. Maybe before dark we can go look around Port Hawkesbury, shop and pick up anything we may have forgotten?" Sky adds, thinking of looking for some pickles in the city grocery stores.
" OK, let's finish setting up camp then, and we can walk the short distance into the city. Make sure you all have a flashlight and batteries, just in case you need to make the trip to the little birdie's room in the middle of the night" Angel Girl instructed as she started to hammer the pegs for her tent into the ground.
Suddenly there was a scream , shattering the calm chatter of the eggcited birds. "Little Angel!" Angel Girl yells, dropping her hammer and running to where she had last seen L'il Angel and Dixie working on their tent. Everyone had turned at the sudden yell, rushing to see what had happened.
Angel Girl began to laugh as she saw the predicament that her fister was in this time.
"Wait! We'll get you out Little Angel" she said, trying to stop laughing. There was Little Angel caught up in the tent, rolled up like a cabbage roll. Her head and toes sticking out each end.
"How'd you get into a mess like this?" Sweetpepper asked arriving to help
"Don't even ask" Dixie said, shaking his head. " she said she knew how to set it up, so she climbed inside to get the poles in place and suddenly, POOF, she was wrapped up like this" Dixie tries not to giggle at the mess his wife-bird got into, but it sure was hard. Little Angel was squirming to get free, but instead the tent was getting even more tangled up.
With much effort and work Little Angel was freed from the tent, and with the help of Kiddo, Sky and Dixie, the tent was up, and ready to go. Little Angel sat wings crossed as she watched, annoyed that the tent had tried to east her on the very first day. "Oh come on Sweetie" Dixie says, taking her by the wing,"we will go take a look around. Maybe we can find a souvenir."
Angel Girl leads the way into the city, "Let's stay together so no birdie gets lost" looking at L'il Angel. "Tomorrow we begin our trip around the Island."

Day 1--Welcome to Cape Breton Island part 1
Hello everybirdie, my name is Angel Girl. I am a member of the SKY Flock, and this month's BOTM candidate. I would like to take this first day to introduce myself a little bit, and outline our month long trip to beautiful Cape Breton Island, Nova, Scotia, Canada.
I arrived at the Sky flock several years ago when my new owner became too afraid of me to keep me. I had lived with my first owner for the first five years of my life. I was born to his father's flock in the Barrie, Ontario area. I was a much loved, and pampered pet, who enjoyed the best of food, and attention. I even have a custom made large cage. When the relationship between my daddy and mommy fell apart I was posted for sale on the internet and ended up in Peterborough, Ontario,.
Why my new owner ever got me will forever be a mystery, but was, in part motivated by my Momma Deb telling her that she had wanted an African Grey for many years and was considering a clutch of Cameroons. My new owner had the very best of intentions, but lacked Parrot handling skills and experience. She was afraid of me, and when I made an escape from my cage, was unable to get me home again, and resorted to using a broom to "herd" me along. I came to hate the broom, as I was daily allowed out, but broomed back to my cage. Eventually I began to attack the broom, and the one holding it aggressively, biting and screaming my displeasure. After several months of war, my owner contacted my Momma Deb and asked her if she would take me in. My Momma Deb was very happy to go get me. She found me cowering in the back of the cage, locked in the back bedroom. I was quickly "caught up" with a towel and placed into a carrier. My cage and I were loaded up, and I was off to my new forever home.
It took a lot of work to get to the place were I trusted Momma Deb. She endured many hard bites, and one attack on that broom she was using to clean the floor. Since Momma Deb didn't give-up, I decided that I would trust her, and have since become Momma's special Girl. I have an extensive vocabulary of words, and sound effects, and I love singing my many songs. Enough about me.
This month we will be exploring Cape Breton Island, along the Cabot Trail by horse-back. IF any-birdie does not have a horse from CHUEY's BOTM Cattle Drive please let me know and we will round up one for you. We will be camping outdoors, enjoying many fun adventures, taking part in some Celtic festivals and games, and maybe even end up sparkled as my Fister Little Angel and Dixie Adler joy us for the trip. Pack up your camping gear, and ready to ride.
See everyone tomorrow as we take flight to Cape Breton. (SKY has transported our horses there by trailer).
Hugs and love

  July 30th BOTM POST
Hello to all my BC friends. Zeena here with today's BOTM Post. Today we will take a look at one of natures most beautiful birds, also my Momma Deb's" dream-bird", the Hyacinth Macaw.
The largest species of macaw, Hyacinth grows to be up to 40 inches (1 m) long. The Hyacinth Macaw survives today in three known distinct population in southern Brazil, eastern Bolivia and northeastern Paraguay. In 1990, the wild population was estimated to be 2,500 birds. The world’s captive population is probably much larger, numbering in the thousands. Today, the wild population is less then 600 individuals. They are critically endangered in their native habitat.
Of the 145 species of parrot in Central and South America, 45 are in danger of extinction. All 18 species of macaws are threatened. The primary causes are habitat loss and heavy exploitation for the pet trade. The Hyacinth Macaw is especially vulnerable to capture and habitat destruction because it is noisy, intrinsically fearless, predictable, and dependent on palm trees. Hyacinth Macaws do not breed every year even under the best circumstances, so the predation on chicks is particularly bad for the species’ survival. Since captured young survive so poorly (up to 99 percent die between capture and final sale), adults are sometimes trapped through liming of perches or use of baited clap-nets. Still, for every macaw that arrives safely abroad, it is likely that five died on the way.
The United States is the largest market for the exotic pet trade. In the last decade, 8.5 million birds, at least 85 percent of birds captured in the wild, were imported or smuggled into the United States. Even when the export of birds is controlled, the domestic bird trade often is not regulated. Another threat to the Hyacinth Macaw is the increased commercial sale of feather art by the Kayapo Indians of Gorotire in southern Brazil. The feathers from up to 10 Hyacinth Macaws are needed to make one headdress. In addition, ranchers kill Macaws because they believe that Hyacinths damage palm trees, which ranchers use for fenceposts, and scare cattle with their noisy behavior. In some places, local people still hunt Macaws for meat. Add to this clear-cutting of Rainforest and you can see the danger the Hyacinth population has to becoming extinct within the next decade.
Compound all the above and it is easy to calculate that their best chance of survival as a species is through captive breeding. Selling in Canada at upwards to $40,000US each these beauties of the Rainforest will remain one the worlds most desired Macaw species.
One more Question for Thought.
It is often people’s love of animals that causes them to desire exotic animal pets. What can be done to educate pet owners about the impacts of wild-caught birds and other animals?

  July 29th BOTM POST
Hello to all my dear BC friends, Zeena here with today's BOTM POST. Today we will take a look in brief at a touchy subject that has people lined up on both sides of the debate. It involves the breeders verses conservationists. I am not sharing this to side with either group, but as a general interest topic. These are exerts from an interview with Tony Silva a world renowned expert of Aviculture.
Interviewer; In light of all the talk about breeders, verses the conservationist groups, how can we make our legislators, the animal rights radicals, and the conservation elitists, understand that what we as private aviculturists do, is valuable and should be encouraged, not strangled with laws and regulations which in the end, will result in extinction, not preservation, of exotic birds?

Tony Silva: "We need an active, strong avicultural industry. Breeders must be allowed to breed for the pet industry, unimpeded by regulations and laws that simply do not work for us or the birds. The birds we raise for the pet industry supports the work we do with endangered species. And we have to do this, because third world countries don't care about what happens to their birds, they simply don't care. We have to look at individual species like the Spix. If it weren't for private aviculture, there would be no Spix Macaws. And the Brazilian government recognizes this! They say, 'Look, we don't care if we ever reintroduce Spix Macaws. We're just happy that authorities say we'll still have the species around, even if it's not in the jungle. '
Interviewer; Has the establishment of the CITES treaty curbed the exploitation of wild Parrots

Tony Silva: I never would have thought imports would stop, because to these countries, birds are a renewable resource. In Southern Argentina a number of years ago, they were packaging up Patagonian Conures in cans and selling them to the Japanese as delicacies because nobody wanted to buy them as pets or to breed.

Look at the Tucuman Amazon. It is so rare they are difficult to locate in their habitat or aviculture. Officials in their range gave permits to shoot them because they were raiding the cornfields . Then there's the Scarlet Macaw in Surinam. It is on CITES Appendix I, but it is perfectly legal to bag up to 3 a day. The natives use them for food. Trade in birds' countries of origin will go on because these people have to survive. There is such a lack of education -- and you're going to tell them not to shoot this or that bird, or to protect this tree! And people won't believe this unless they see it. It's like the Hyacinth Macaw study. The researchers have a few lunches with bird trappers and gives their opinions as first-hand knowledge. But it's not accurate. Without captive breeding many species of Parrots the world over will cease to be in the next ten years. We need breeders to guarantee there will be any Parrots left in the end.

  July 28th BOTM POST
Hi everybirdie, Zeena here with Monday's BOTM POST. Today we visit a beautiful song bird making a new comeback in homes around the globe. The Pekin Rokin, a song bird of extraordinary talent. I wish to thank all my many friends for their votes and stopping to leave comments on my page. I read them all.
The Red-billed Leiothrix or PEKIN ROBIN (Leiothrix lutea) is usually found in India, Bhutan, Nepal, Burma and parts of Tibet. This species is a bird of the hill forests, found in every type of jungle though it prefers pine forests with bushes. It has also been found at elevations ranging from near sea level to about 7,500 feet.

The species was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands in 1918 and spread to all the forested islands except Lanai. Its population on Oahu crashed in the 1960s and it disappeared from Kauai, but is now common and increasing on Oahu The leiothrix was released in Western Australia but it failed to become established. This species was also introduced in Great Britain but permanent establishment was unsuccessful. It was introduced to France, where it is now established in several areas.
Adults have bright red bills and a dull yellow ring around their eyes. Their backs are dull olive green, and they have a bright yellow-orange throat with a yellow chin; females are somewhat duller than males, and juveniles have black bills. It has also been introduced in various parts of the world, with small populations of escapees having existed in Japan since the 1980s. It has become a common cagebird and amongst aviculturists it goes by various names: Pekin Robin, Pekin Nightingale, Japanese Nightingale, and Japanese (Hill) Robin, the last two being misnomers as it is not native to Japan.
Pekin Robins don't fly frequently, except in open habitats. This bird is very active and an excellent singer but very secretive and difficult to see. It makes a wonderful addition to a mixed aviary with good cover provided. Housing one pair per flight.
The standard fare for Pekin Robins in captivity comprises a mix of dried insect food, fresh fruits and mealworms. they especially like fruitflies and live crickets especially in the breeding season.
Pekin Robins are difficult to find for sale but well worth the expenditure and effort to find them.

  July 27th BOTM POST
Hello everyone, Zeena here with today's BOTM POST. Today we head to the warm tropical Island Luzon, Philippines and visit an unusual and exotic species of Dove. The Luzon Bleeding-Heart. The Luzon Bleeding-heart (Gallicolumba luzonica) is one of a number of species of ground dove in the genus Gallicolumba that are called "bleeding-hearts". They get this name from a splash of vivid red colour at the centre of their white breasts. The Luzon Bleeding-heart is the species in which this feature is most pronounced, and on first sight it is hard to believe that the bird has not recently been wounded. A reddish hue that extends down the belly furthers the illusion of blood having run down the bird's front. The Luzon Bleeding-heart was featured on a Philippine 2-peso postage stamp in 1994.

The Luzon bleeding-heart is classified as Near Threatened (NT) on the IUCN Red List and is listed on Appendix II of CITES., since it is commonly trapped. Local people use it for meat, but its striking appearance means that there is also a market for it in the pet trade. A captive breeding project has been started in Australia, and the Philippines. Habitat conservation is a priority but it will also be necessary to bring some of the three other species of bleeding heart doves (Negros, Sulu and Mindoro) into captivity, to prevent their extinction. Recently the first captive population of Negros bleeding heart doves has been established in the Philippines.

Only two of the five species of bleeding heart doves are held in captivity in Europe at present: the Luzon and the Mindanao. The European breeding programs for these species are coordinated by Bristol Zoo Gardens. They are being managed to provide a self-sustaining captive population and to develop important care and breeding techniques for use in the Philippines.

Identifying the areas where Luzon bleeding heart doves are found and the numbers that are left is the next step needed to secure this species in the wild. Once sites have been selected with the local community, the area will be protected to ensure the survival of the species in that area.

The areas where the bleeding heart dove lives also contain many other birds unique to these islands, all of which have been threatened by deforestation. In addition, some are threatened by hunting and illegal collection for the pet trade. By highlighting the plight of the bleeding heart dove, conservationists work to save the habitat for all the species in the area.

Although extremely rare in Aviculture 2 pairs were found for sale at $5000.US per pair.
I want to take this time to thank everyone of you for your daily votes and awesome, informative comments.

  July 26 BOTM POST
Hello my dear BC friends. It was a long day without our beloved BC family but we are happy to say once it was up and going it was actually much faster then before. I had a special request from one of my friends to example the breeding of mutations. As this is a limited BOTM series I will touch on it briefly. For anyone interested in more in depth study I have a number of very good links and references.
In simplest terms a "mutation" is any deviation from the "normal wild-type" of any species of animal or bird. They occur spontaneously in the wild, as well as in captivity. In the wild MOST mutations have a very limited life-span owing to their coloration or other physical characteristics that make them more visible and easier prey. An example of a successful mutations are the red markings on normal Congo African Greys. These individuals integrate well into existing grey colored flocks.
In Captivity mutations are able to live and mature thereby offering breeders an opportunity to reproduce like marked/colored offspring. An excellent example is the Blue Budgie. These spontaneously occurred in several continents. By breeding Blue offspring back to normal parents the breeders were able to produce more of the same. Through selective culling and breeding of F2-second generation-blues the color was stabilized. Mutations can continue to occur even in a new mutation color--such as the blue Budgies who then produced offspring with yellow-Lutino or albino pigments. Inbreeding, selective crossing and out crosses to other colored mutations has given rise to all the many colors common in Budgies.
When looking specifically at Quaker Parrots, whose natural color is green/grey we find that the first mutation was a Blue baby hatched in Belgium in the 1940s. It is a complete replacement of the normal green plumage by blue. The gene for blue plumage is Autosomal Recessive and both hens and cocks can be heterozygous or ‘split’ for or‘carriers’ of blue – depending upon your favored terminology! This means--both parents must carry the gene to produce blue even though they are visually "normals" Today there are a large number of mutations being bred.
With all mutations, breeders must cull out the colors they do not want and breed the desired colors into the gene pool. Through consecutive generations of offspring the color is improved upon, often mutating from the original mutation thereby adding yet another new color for serious breeders to work with. Mutation possibilities are limitless as they occur spontaneously and can not be "created" by humans. Hybrids must not be confused with mutations. Hybrids are the result of breeding two diverse species within the same Genera together--examples of which are the Hybrid Macaws, Blue/Gold mated to a Green Wing etc.
Today we will visit a selection of mutations from a number of different species, I hope you enjoy the results.

Hello everybirdie, Zeena here with today's special guests. I had a few problems getting them to settle down and then a few chewed their way out of the box, but finally I bribed them with a few Almonds. Today we pause briefly to visit a few very beautiful and interesting Cockatoo mutations. Cockatoos have been cross species bred for a number of years, giving rise to some odd and uncommon looking individuals. However, the birds we will stop to visit today are natural occurring mutations, some of which have been hatched in the wild. Ok, guys, climb down from there please, it's time to get a few photos.
Cockatoos are found in the wild in only a limited area of the world. They are found primarily in Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia, as well as surrounding areas in the South Pacific.

The cockatoo (of the family Cacatuidae) is one of the most well-known birds in the parrot family because it’s quite noisy; in fact, it’s the loudest of all the parrots. Their loudness comes from a history of having to communicate long distances with one another in dark, thick forests. Cockatoos are found in Australia and some surrounding islands, mainly in forested areas. These birds form flocks, with sometimes up to three different types of cockatoos, to feed together on berries, nuts and seeds. Most cockatoos even stay in the same flock they were raised in and often mate in long-lasting pairs.

Like all parrots, cockatoos are zygodactyl, which means they can use their feet to grasp objects, making them excellent climbers. Although parrots are often colorful, most cockatoos are actually black and white because they lack a certain texture in their feathers that reflects light. In the 1970s, many cockatoos were trapped for the pet trade and their numbers in the wild have decreased dramatically. In fact, some Indonesian cockatoos are now thought to be extinct in the wild. Others are quickly declining due to hunting, poisoning and illegal poaching. Looked upon as pests and nuisances they fight to maintain their territories with ever growing human invasion.

Cockatoos are gregarious, sensitive, demanding and classed as high-maintenance. They have a powerful beak they freely use to chew and tear woodwork and furnishing in homes if left unsupervised. Not a bird for most novices, those who have loved and been loved by one, will forever be a Cockatoo fan.

I hope you enjoy the photos of some of the wonderful mutations available today.

  July 22 BOTM POST
Hello my dear friends. Thank you all for the lovely words of encouragement and your faithful daily votes. i hope you are enjoying viewing a few very rare and uncommon Parrots and birds. All the birds I have discussed are species that are kept in captivity. Some we will not see, or won't see available for a long time due to their rarity.
Today we will stop by to visit some very common friends, in some very interesting and striking colors. Momma Deb has raised many Green Cheeked Conures in her lifetime but none like those we will see today. Many are only available to breeders at this time due to their difficulty in reproducing their colors. I hope you will enjoy what you see.
Momma Deb and I tried to locate the current price of many of these beauties and have listed them here, just for your information sake--

American Dilutes--$2000.00 US a pair and up
American Dilutes yellow-sided---$ 3800 to 6000Us a pair
Red-Faced Yellow-sided----$2500 to 7000.US a pair
Sun Cheek -------$ 4500 to 8500US a pair
Moon Cheeks---$7000Us and up for good stock
Mint-----$5000 to 10,000US a pair
Turquoise---$500 US a pair and up
Cinnamon Turquoise---$750 US and up a pair
Recessive Pied-----$4000 to 8000US a pair and up
Red-Factored Pineapples--$300US and up per pair
Dilute Moon Cheeks---$7000US and up per pair

There are by far not all the new and shocking color mutations available but will give you a good idea of what has been hatching in Green Cheeked Conure nest boxes lately.

Habitat:
Seen in dense, low forests and woodlands. Also in moist, mossy cloud forest on E Andes where seen up to 2900m (9512 ft).

Threat Summary:
Probably declining in E Bolivia because of rapid forest clearance. They are found on CITES
Appendix II. There are flocks living in both Florida and California which can be seen in company of the wild Amazon Parrots.

  July 21st BOTM POST
Hello everybirdie, Zeena here to start this week with one of the worlds most well known Parrots. Today we stop to visit the Senegal Parrots and their mutations. I wish to thank you all for your greyt support and daily votes in my quest to earn the Title of Bird of the Month for August.
Over the last 30 years as many as 3 million wild Senegal parrots have been removed from the wild – 811,408 CITES Export permits have been issued since 1975. Unregulated trade in African parrots peaked in the 1980s and ’90s, and still exists today. This lucrative black market industry is fueled by profiteering middlemen who exploit wild bird populations. In 2005, the Senegal parrot was the most traded bird on the CITES Appendix II, with an average of over 45,000 individuals being removed from the wild each year. Today, African parrots remain among the most traded species on earth.
The Poicephalus parrots, including Senegals, Red-bellied and Myers etc are among the hardiest parrots on earth being able to survive in the harsh, African subtropics. All of their ranges are under serious pressure from the booming charcoal industry, out-of-control commercial logging , burning by local people for pastures and agriculture, as well as climate change. Deforestation rates on the continent are now twice that of the rest of the world. Africa has lost one half of its old-growth forests and forest restoration has become absolutely essential to save endemic forest bird species.
Long-lived forest specialists like Senegal parrots and rose-ringed parakeets are particularly sensitive to forest degradation. The added pressure of the wild-caught bird trade is often catastrophic, resulting in local extinctions in many Africa countries. Meyer’s parrots have all but disappeared from South Africa, African grey parrots are no longer seen in Kenya or Tanzania, Ruppell’s parrot and the brown-headed parrot have disappeared from much of their ranges in Namibia and Mozambique respectively, and the Cape parrot is only found in small forest refuges in the high mountains. Anyone who has traveled by road in Africa will tell you that every time you are in or near a forest you will start seeing parrots in cages or with their feet tied up on the roadside. Africa is exporting its parrots, its wildlife, its birdlife, its natural heritage,at alarming rates.
The Senegal Parrot is now extinct in many of it's ranges. The only way to stop this trade in wild-caught Parrots is to refuse to purchase birds that are not born in captivity.
Many devoted Senegal breeders have been working with a few unique mutations that have appeared in nestboxes starting in the early 1990's. These rare and beautiful mutations are still expensive and normally available only to other breeders, they include the yellow, pied, opaline, dilute and cinnamon. Regardless of color Senegal Parrots will remain one of the most common family pet birds kept the world over.

  July 20th BOTM POST
Hi everyone, Zeena, here with your Sunday BOTM POST. I want to take a moment to thank you all for all your support and votes during this month's BOTM campaign. Today, we will visit with some unique and usual Budgie mutations. Known by many names, Parakeet, Budgie, and officially Budgerigars. these fun-loving, friendly members of the avian family are loved the world over.

Feather Dusters
Feather Dusters are a rare mutation produced solely at random, mostly among English Budgies. These birds are huge compared to other budgies and have abnormally growing, very long feathers. As the name implies they do look rather like the feather dusters used for dusting furniture. They must eat constantly to try and supply their bodies with the nutrients they need because of the heavy demand put on them by the constant feather growth. They generally don't live more than a few months, cannot fly, and are usually blind. They are also thought to be deaf and may even be afflicted with what is known in humans as Down's Syndrome.

Half Siders

Half-Siders a randomly occurring rare mutation in which the bird is split right down the middle with each half representing a different color or variety. One side may be blue and one half green, one half normal and the other half pied, etc. When one of these is at a show, you can tell exactly where it is in the room because of all of the people standing in front of the cage doing double takes. As they say, you have to see it to believe it. Quarter-Siders, in which only one quarter of the body is affected, also occur.

CRESTED

In this variety, the feathers on top of the budgie's head point awry, forming a crest.
There are three types of crested budgies: full-circular crest, half-circular crest and the tufted crest.
Crested Budgies are both a random occurring mutation, and one for which breeders can breed to produce them. They are relatively rare and sell for upwards of $100US each and more depending on crest.
Helicopter Budgies

These unusual Budgies are bred to produce long, silkie feathers at the shoulder and upper wing margins. The more complete the covering the higher the quality and price. They are especially popular in Japan and Asia where pairs can sell for up to $55,000US

Hello everyone, Zeena here with a special tribute to my frother Lupe'. Lupe' left us recently after he sustained a severe injury to his feet by another bird. Rest in peace, "Momma's Special Boy!"
Today's special Parrot is the Tucaman Amazon. This post was difficult for me to write.

The Tucumán Amazon (Amazona tucumana) is native to Northern Argentina where it is found in the provinces of Tucumán, Salta and Jujuy as well as Southeast Bolivia in provinces of Chuquisaca and Tarija. They prefer forested areas between 3,400 and 7,300 ft; but may migrate to lower altitudes in autumn and winter (1,000 ft). They inhabit woodland areas . The main concentrations of this species in Bolivia occur in Montes Chapeados, Villa Serrano and Tariquía Flora and Fauna National Reserve, with 1,643 individuals recorded at various sites during a recent study) A dedicated national population census and monitoring initiative is required to provide an accurate estimate of the Bolivian population and to locate, measure and monitor local populations and post-breeding roosts .

The Tucumán Amazon is a mostly green short tailed parrot 31 cm (12 in) long. The green feathers of the upper-body have black margins. There is red plumage on the forehead and fore-crown, and the red does not extend around the white eye-rings. It has red primary wing feathers and no red at the bend of the wing. It has orange thighs and red at base of the green tail. They have a horn coloured beak, orange-yellow irises, and pinkish-grey legs. The male and female are identical.

This species is classified as Vulnerable as it is experiencing a rapid population decline owing to habitat loss and capture for the cage bird trade. On the CITES APPENDIX 1 trade is now illegal, but in Country trade has not been enforced. These rather plain individuals were not of primary concern to breeders when imports were allowed owing to their low ability to learn human speech. Therefore there is a limited gene pol of breeding lines available worldwide.

Lupe'; bold, protective and gentle. An awesome and devoted pet. Limited in speech he made it up in love, entertaining antics and personality. If protective measures are not put into place in their wild habitat, this gem in the Amazon family will disappear.

Fly free little frother, we all miss you, but we will see you again!

Hi everybirdie. Zeena here today with another very unique and endangered bird that is fighting for survival .The Nicobar Pigeon.
The Nicobar pigeon (Caloenas nicobarica) is a pigeon found on small islands and in coastal regions from the Nicobar Islands, east through the Malay Archipelago, to the Solomons and Palau. It is the only living member of the genus Caloenas. They drink water without having to raise their heads in the process; their chicks are helpless at birth but develop at an amazing pace . What is more, they forage for fruits of plants that have evolved with them the entire time. The Nicobar is planning and planting forests as they forge and eat.

It is a large pigeon, measuring 18-22 inches in length. The head is grey, like the upper neck plumage, which turns into green and copper hackles towards the breast. The breast is grey. The tail is very short and pure white. The rest of its plumage is metallic green. The cere of the dark bill forms a small blackish knob; the strong legs and feet are dull red. The iris is dark. Females are slightly smaller and less colorful.

The Nicobar pigeon roams in flocks from island to island, sleeping on offshore islets where no predators occur and spends the day in areas with better food availability,. Its food consists of seeds, fruit and buds, and it is attracted to areas where grain is available. A gizzard stone helps to grind up hard food items. Its flight is quick. Unlike other pigeons groups fly in columns or single file, not in a loose flock. The white tail is prominent in flight when seen from behind . The young birds' lack of a white tail is a signal of their immaturity clearly visible to an adult Nicobar pigeon, it is obvious at a glance which flockmembers are neither potential mates, nor potential competitors for mates.

This species nests in dense forest on offshore islets, often in large colonies. It builds a loose stick nest in a tree. It lays one elliptical faintly blue-tinged white egg.

Nicobar pigeons are hunted in considerable numbers for food, and also for their gizzard stone which is used in jewelry. The species is also trapped for the local pet market, but as it is on CITES Appendix I, such trade is generally illegal. Internationally, captive breeding is able to supply the birds demanded by zoos, where this attractive and unusual bird is often seen. Direct exploitation of the species, including the illegal trade, might be sustainable on its own; however, its available nesting habitat is decreasing. The offshore islets which it requires are often logged for plantations, destroyed by construction ,or polluted by nearby industry. Also, increased travel introduced predators to the breeding sites, and colonies of the Nicobar pigeon may be driven to desert such locations or be destroyed outright. There is an estimated 1,000 adult birds remaining, its long-term future is increasingly being jeopardized.

Hello everyone, Zeena here with today's topic. The African Grey Mutations. Please note that all mutations occur spontaneously. A hybrid is made by combining two species from the same family group. Mutations do occur in the wild, but often fail to survive due tot heir coloration making them easy prey.
Several mutations occur naturally in the wild, like the F2 Pied Mutation, which results in a broad red band across the abdomen. 1998 saw the first created Grey mutation when South African bird breeder Von van Antwerpen and New Zealand partner Jaco Bosman selected F2 Pieds and created the first red African Grey. These early red pigmented Greys sold for more then $250,000 US each. Since the early 1990s red-factored Greys were being caught in the wild and sold to breeders who in turn attempted to propagate the coloration. This first red baby saw the beginning of a number of spontaneous mutations occurring all around the world.
Today there are a large number of beautiful, rare mutations available to breeders and collectors. Each mutation possesses the same personality traits, intelligence and healthy composure as their normal Grey relatives. Although some argue that mutation breeding weakens the lines, to date this has not proven to be true, since these mutations occur from F1-2 generation parents, and often from visually normal grey parents who carry the mutation coloring.
Today we will stop and take a look at several of the more common, and some fairly new and uncommon mutations available. Each has it's merits, and following. It takes many years and generations to stabilize a new mutation to breed true-to-type. Dedicated breeders work hard to breed the strongest, healthiest birds from the chosen mutations. The road to success it wroth with pit-falls and disappointments, but the desire to perpetuate their selected mutations makes it a labor of love to continue onwards.
Most of the mutations shown today in the gallery are unavailable to the public. Those that are sell from $5000 to over $150,000US each. I hope you enjoy seeing these beautiful birds, some for the very first time.

Hello everybirdie, Zeena here to start of this week with a visit to one of the planet's wonders in the avian field. It was a special request from our dear friend Mr. Kiddo. We need to be very quiet as we visit these unique and highly endangered gems of the bird world. I wish to thank everyone for their votes and input.
The kakapo (Maori: kakapo, night parrot), also called owl parrot, is a species of large, flightless, nocturnal, ground-dwelling parrot of the super-family Strigopoidea found only in New Zealand. It has finely blotched yellow-green plumage, a distinct facial disc of sensory, vibrissa-like feathers, a large grey beak, short legs, large feet, and wings and a tail of relatively short length. A combination of traits make it unique among its kind; it is the world's only flightless parrot, the heaviest parrot, nocturnal, herbivorous, visibly sexually dimorphic in body size, has a low basal metabolic rate, no male parental care, and is the only parrot to have a polygynous breeding system. It is also possibly one of the world's longest-living birds. Its anatomy typifies the tendency of a bird's evolution on oceanic islands, with few predators and abundant food: a generally robust physique, quick movement efficiency at the expense of flight abilities & reduced wing muscles, . Like many other New Zealand bird species, the kakapo was historically important to the Maori, the indigenous people of New Zealand. It was hunted and used for both for its meat as a food source and for its feathers . It was also kept as a pet.
The Kakapo lays one to three eggs in a ground concave usually only raising one or two chicks per breeding season. The species is in a critically endangered position due to poaching, habitat distraction and the introduction of predators such as feral cats. Man's infringement on their breeding territory is causing a drastic and rapid decrease in numbers with only 6 chicks in 2012 surviving to maturity. A key part of the Recovery Plan is the supplementary feeding of females. The kakapo breeds only once every two to five years, when the Dacrydium cupressinum (rimu), produces protein-rich fruit and seeds. Observations of the relationship between intermittent breeding and the plant's mast year help biologists choose which suitable supplementary foods to increase kakapo breeding frequency. In 1989, six preferred foods (apples, sweet potatoes, almonds, Brazil nuts, sunflower seeds and walnuts) were supplied to 12 feeding stations. Males and females ate the supplied foods, and females nested on Little Barrier Island in the summers of 1989–91 for the first time since 1982, although nesting success was low. In March 2014, with the kakapo population having increased to 126, it sits on the verge of extinction. As man's awareness of their plight becomes known it is hoped that Conservation efforts will see a greater success in breeding these wonders of the Parrot World.

Thanks for your post on the ARA project: a necessary and worthwhile project. Zena has an avian vet appointment for a beak trim on Friday. Her lower beak got her bit out of alignment so we have been going more frequently before the lower beak gets overgrown. Trying to fix her cross bite. The vet is a two hour round trip, but its worth it. My wife has been seeing if anyone local can do it, but for now we'll stick with the avian vet.

OH NO, not another idea Little Angel
Spot Le' Blaze-atiel 242573

Little Angel sneezes so hard she knocks all the bottles of sparkles onto the floor.
Again she sneezes as they echo all around the Great Hall, the sparkle bottles opened up upon hitting the floor and with Little Angels loud windy sneezing fits, the glitter rises softly into the air and scatters in a million different directions of Autumn like color, like leaves falling from the trees, catching the sunlight coming in from the large castle Great Room Windows! King Dixie can feel all the glue just landing on his rain gear with heavy wet glue-y splats and he quickly pulls his hood down to cover his head! After he listens a long while and everything seems quiet,King Dixie uncovers his head and looks over to where Spot sits. His eyes pop open in disbelief! Spot is just sitting there, his snow white crest feathers a multitude of sparkling colors,a rainbow bouncing off his head from the bright sunlight seeping in through the large castle windows. Little Angel pulls herself up from on top of the glue bottle. Astonished to see she has sneezed herself into a nice predicament of splatters of glue here and there all over her belly and chest areas with blue glitters shining up her front like a royal vest! Laughing she gets herself in a standing position and as she turns her head towards King Dixie and Spot, she drops her beak low in horror as Spots eyes meet hers and she sees the mess. Poor Spot not only has sparkles on his crest but all over his beautiful feathers, from head to tail.
"Little Angel," is all Spot is able to get out of his beak. 'Momma Rea is going to be upset to see this mess" indicating the sparkling glitter all over him.
Little Angel tries hard not to giggle but it is just too funny to hold in her laughter. " Spot, you look wonderful, just like a Christmas tree ornament."
King Dixie quickly takes off the raincoat and rushes to Spot. "Guards please bring us some water and wash clothes." The guards arrive carrying buckets of water and clothes.
"Little Angel we assume?" they ask
King Dixie gives Little Angel a cloth. "Let's get this off before it dries."
"WAIT I have an IDEA..."
"OH NOOOOOOOO" yells SPOT and King Dixie in harmony.
"But just wait until I tell you my idea first.........."
luv SPOT

  A sticky situation
Spot LE' Blaze-atiel 242573

The Castle Guards quickly open the gates to allow SPOT and Little Angel to pass by. They smile politely with a concerned look to their eyes. Every time Little Angel visits something happens. Maybe today she won't get into any mischief.
"Oh No here comes Little Angel and with all that glitter and glue! I have got to find a place to hide or find a nice raincoat so that if, she decides to take out the glue and glitter and there's some kind of mishap I won't be getting it all over my feathers!" King Dixie runs to don a long raincoat, hanging in his closet that has a nice deep hood on it so he's totally covered before he goes down and welcomes Spot and Little Angel into the Castle.
"Welcome Spot" King Dixie calls as he descends the long winding staircase. Shaking wings with Spot, then giving him a big Conure welcome hug. "I'm happy to see you two."
King Dixie throws his wings around his Little Angel, giving her a soft beakie kiss. Little Angel smiles as she carefully opens the glue behind King Dixie's back. "Little Angel, what are you planning to do with that glue in your wing?"
"Nuffin. I was just checking it, that's all" Little Angel says with a sassy grin.
"That's good" King Dixie says with a sigh. " we don't want any glue and glitter accidents, today!" King Dixie leads the two friends into the large hall where the preparations for Thanksgiving are under way.
"I brought some colored leaves so we can make a center piece for the Royal banquet"
L.A. piles them onto the table. We can glue them to a paper plate and add sparkles and maybe a few pine cones." She looks at the leaves and says,
"I have an idea King Dixie" L.A. looks around, " DIXIE? SPOT? Where did you go?"
"Here" they say from behind a big armchair, " we thought maybe we'd dropped something way over here."
"Ok come on" L.A. says grinning happily. " How much mischief can we get into making a decoration?"
Cautiously Spot and King Dixie come out of hiding. "Ok, we will all work together on this" Spot says getting a paper plate from the big craft cupboard. He takes some craft paper, pine cones , and ribbon to the table.

Little Angel claps her wings eggcitedly as she lays everything out neatly. King Dixie takes the paper plate and holds it while L/A. squirts glue onto it. Spot lays red, yellow, orange and crimson leaves in the wet glue. Next King Dixie places the pine cones in a pretty arrangement.
"All we need is sparkles now. L.A. opens the orange, green, red and yellow bottles.
"Just a second, we need the blue sparkles." she races tot he craft cupboard and hurries back. Suddenly Little Angel trips on a toy laying on the floor, landing with a splat on the opened glue bottle sending wet, sticky glue flying all over SPOT and King Dixie. "AHHHH, AHHH CHUUU" L.A. sneezes causing the sparkle bottles to tip over and......

Spot peaks out from behind his night time cage cover as the light begins to filter in through the window. Quietly he slips out of his cage and flies to the table where he has all the decorations and craft materials sitting out in neat piles.
"HELLOOOOOOOOOO!" calls Little Angel as she knocks on the front door. " SPOT, you up yet?"
Spot flies to the door and quietly opens it. " SHHHHH, Little Angel, Momma is sleeping. She doesn't feel good today so I thought we could go visit our friends and let her sleep for a while longer."
"Greyt idea Spot. I have an idea. Why don't we visit King Dixie in the Castle for a while?" Little Angel smiles at her own idea.
"Ok, I'll leave a note for Momma Rea first and we can head off on our way to the Castle."
Spot carefully writes a note and leaves it where Momma Rea is sure to see it when she wakes up.
Spot and Little Angel close the door softly and walk out into the dull, damp morning. The sun peaking out occasionally at them as they walk to the BC Castle. On their way Little Angel gathers some colorful leaves to make a decoration for the Thanksgiving Banquet.
"Look" Little Angel says happily, as she opens her pocket on her jacket, " I have glue and sparkles"
"I wanted to ask you about that. Ipo stopped by last night and she had sparkles on her tail feathers. Do you know anything about that?" Spot asks raising and eye brow.
"Well, ahhhhh. Yes I sorta do. I was stopping by to visit Ipo and I tripped on a shoe on the floor and somehow the lid on the glue popped off and the glue, and I went flying through the air and it landed on Ipo's tail....Ok. I'm busted " Little Angel says with a stomp of her foot in annoyance.
"I stopped to visit Ipo and she was asleep. I decided to surprise her by making her tail look all pretty and glittery with sparkles."
Spot shakes his head. Poppa Sky had said she was hard to keep out of mischief.
Soon the Castle comes into view. The guards standing tall at the gates, smile as they see Spot with Little Angel. They remember all too well her Reign as BOTM Queen.
"I wonder what we'll get into today???" King Dixie says looking out the Castle window

Hi Everybirdie, King Casey here once more with the continuing Adventures of the CASTLE GHOST HUNTERS. I trust all are well and good and enjoying these last greyt days of the fall. Momma Deb has been having wrist problems and was told to do less blogging for a while but I promised to continue our exploration of the dungeons far below the BC Castle.
Every eye turns to look at the old, wooden door with the rusty lock.
"Are you sure this is the way we go?" Cookie asks " Maybe we better check the map again."
"Good idea" Cori adds flashing her flashlight towards King Casey and Kiddo's direction.
Holding the flashlight in his beak King Casey opens the folded map and looks at it carefully. Kiddo leans over to check it out too. "HHHMM, I see there was a second hallway. I believe this is correct, we just have to....."
Suddenly out of the pitch darkness a voice says " PHEW, made it just in time" The surprise of another voice in the dark, cold hallway causes every bird to gasp in fright. " It's us, Hulk and Chipper." we were late and had to hurry to catch up to you."
"I brought a bag of snacks with me, in case anybirdie gets hungry" Chipper holds up the heavy bag.
"Splendid idea Chipper." Falco adds with a smile.

Popeye finishes up with the squak a tiels and and saying farewell to Jenny Lynn and heads back to her office in the Castle. There she remembers that she was going to tell King Casey about an error in the map. She finds a guard and tells him "to find King Casey and let him know to go left, not right, at the end of the long hallway. If they go right, they'll be sorry."
I think we are heading in the right direction, we followed the stairways, turned right and followed the hallway to the very end, just like it shows in the map." Polly says as she studies the map in King Casey's wing-tip.
"Ok, let's keep going. Kiddo, you have the key?" King Casey inquires eager to continue on their adventure.
"Yep, here it is." Kiddo holds the key up above his head. "I'll try it in this lock" Carefully Kiddo inches towards the old door, dust and cobwebs blocking his way.
Slowly he inserts the key into the heavy padlock and turns it. The old lock grunts and groans then pops open with a scary creaking noise.
"Let's go" King Casey calls wing resting on George's soft fur. " Keep close"
They birds hurry to enter the opened doorway, afraid to remain behind the group.
"AHHHHHHHH" screams Piddy, " Something furry touched me again.
"It's just a spider" Boo Boo exclaims, " Told you I'd eat it" she giggles to herself when the others say " Uck and uuuwwwie"
"All right let's hold wing tips. I'll lead off straight ahead, I see there is a small door over in the far wall. Everyone stay close together."
"Ok,.....AWWWWWWWWW! OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Screams King Casey, Kiddo and George in the front of the group as the floor suddenly drops out from under their feet sending all the birdies tumbling downwards into the black unknown.
with love
King Casey

Hello everyone. King Casey here with the continuing Adventures of "the Castle Ghost Hunters". With Halloween just around the corner, no doubt the BC Castle is filled with scary, creepy, Ghosts and other hidden Monsters. I sure am glad to have such a brave, tough group of fellow explorers with me.
"Hey something furred brushed my leg" squeals Paddy grabbing tightly onto Peppino and Waddles.
" Where is it? Let me at it!" says Cookie with determination in his voice. Cookie flashes his light in the direction the voice of Paddy had come from.
"It was likely just a spider" George says, " Let's keep goingggggggg!"
"What was that?" asks Willie listening intently. " sounds like someone or something is heading our way fast."
"We'll check it out" Kiddo exclaims, grabbing King Casey by the wing. "Willie? Where did the sound come from?"
Willie points back the way they had just come.
"Maybe we better stay together" Piddy adds nervously.
"Perhaps if we move on, whatever it was won't find us?" Falco tells the group of explorers standing restlessly in the dark, cold dungeon hallway.
"OH THANK GOODNESS!" comes a voice out of nowhere, causing all the brave Ghost Hunters to jump. " It's us, Cookie, Mango, Poppy and Sunshine. We brought Raffi and Angel too."
" Hi, glad you made it. We're just about to
Go where no bird has been before." Kiddo replies.
"Yes, we are going to the very lowest and long abandon caves and dungeons in the very bowels of the earth' King Casey says a little nervousness in his voice.
The team of world-class BC Ghost Hunters make their way cautiously down the final hall, stopping outside an old, wooden door with a large rusted lock on it. King Casey hands the key Popeye had given him to Kiddo. Slowly he takes it in his outstretched wing, moving cautiously towards the old padlock. "There's something I forgot to tell Casey about that map. Part of it is wrong. What ever you do, don't go....Oh wait, my phone's ringing. I'll go tell King Casey as soon as I am finished." Popeye picks up the phone. Jenny-Lynn's voice comes across the lines. " There's been a sightly of Sqawkatiels we better go check out.."
'Now, what was it I was going to do..?" Popeye thinks for a moment. "Oh well, it mustn't have been important. I better go meet JEnny-Lynn we need to keep a careful eye on those Squawk-atiels" Out the door she heads on official BC Homeland business.
With shaky wing Kiddo tries to insert the key. " It won't go in the lock" he turns to the others.Angel turns her flashlight on, revealing another wooden door across the blackened hallway.
"Let's try this one Kiddo" Polly suggests, " Maybe this is the right door!"
King Casey and Kiddo make their way through the gathered crowd and stand facing an even older wooden door, with an even rustier lock on it................
with love King Casey

Hello everyone, King Casey here with the Continuing Adventures of THE CASTLE GHOST HUNTERS.
Baby and Sky head off towards the long, windy, dark stairway that leads to the deepest recesses of the BC Castle.
'Ok, with our flashlights, a map that Popeye gave me and..."King Casey takes a deep breath.
"I guess we're ready to go find is some Ghosts."
"I don't remember any Ghosts' Zippy says, " but Miss BB says they're there now."
"You aren't afraid are you Zippy?" Polly asks eying her fister.
"OF course not!' standing tall she turns on her flashlight to check that it works.
"The map says to take the north stairway down to the dungeons then go to the far end and take the stairway to the very bottom, far under the Castle" King Casey hands Kiddo the map for a second opinion.
"Yep, that's it. Come on, let's go everybody" Kiddo and King Casey take the lead followed by Polly Zippy, Falco, Willie and Peppino.
"WAIT!" calls Cori and Boo Boo we're here, we also brought Piddy and Paddy to help us. They're very brave."
"Greyt, the more the better." King Casey says, " George you coming?"
George looks nervously around and finding no easy escape agrees, "OOOOOOOk, I'm coming too." he takes a deep swallow and falls in behind the rest.
They explorers reach the heavy wooden door and gather together. Kiddo and Cori give the big door a hard push and it creeks open with an eerie groan. The hallway is dark and dusty, with big, sticky cobwebs hanging down to the floor. The group slow enter the short hallway and stop at the top of the narrow, stone stairs that lead down to the dungeons.
"Stay close together" Falco says from among the group.
"I'm staying close to you George" Piddy and Paddy say a hint of concern in their voices.
"Zippy, Boo Boo" King Casey exclaims
"We're here' they flash their lights to show their location.
"Every birdie stay together and go carefully down these old stairs" George warns.
The stairs are cold and the dust lays heavy upon them rising in great clouds as the explores cautiously descend one at a time. King Casey and Kiddo lead the way, cutting through the spider webs, as thick as a fisherman's net.
"EEEEE!!!!" screams Cori, " a spider touched me, OOOWWWW"
"Where is it? I'll eat," Boo Boo calls from next to Willie
"GROSS!" Falco giggles making the others burst out in nervous laughter.
"WHAT?" Boo Boo asks innocently
The group of brave explorers reach the bottom of the first stairway and open the door at the bottom that leads them to the hallway past the dungeons.
"We have to go to the very end and there is a wooden door there, we have to open it and descend the second staircase to the very depths of the BC Castle. If anybirdie wants to turn back now?" George says.
"NO" comes the resounding answer.
"OK, then let's go. It's very dark here but we need to save out flashlights, so hold onto the birdie's wing before and after you." Kiddo adds
"HEY, something furry brushed my leg" says Paddy with a squeal.......
