  Hi Finches
V4U today. We have stormy wintery weather here. Lots of ice and freezing temps. Snow covering the ice. Not very good or safe road conditions. It's supposed to stay like this till the weekend. Good thing we went to the grocery store when we did. It's gonna be a l-o-n-g week ahead. Have a good day. From, Mayo

I already wrote to Sherman and Peabody, so I'll direct this one to you. Tell mom locking herself out in the summer is one thing, in the winter, it's a totally different thing altogether. She should put the key around her neck on a string, like the little ones do!
Mom T got the wrong number? I hope they are going to pay her. Even though she was late showing up, it wasn't her fault. Well, not much new. Are you going to the KB to give your flockmates hugs and kisses? We will head over there when we finish blogging. Hugs to all of you, Falco

Thanks for joining us for the big games yesterday. That home theater room in the castle is wonderful, isn't it? We are going ice skating today, down at the pond by the kissing booth. If you want to join us you may. Later, we are going to the magic table to eat, so you can think of any food you like or want and the table will provide it for you.
I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, King Peppino

Tell the bigheads that twist ties on the food portals may help to prevent an escape, but maybe not... That's funny, they saw Willie and thought it was my royal portrait...
Today we are going to the home theater wing of the castle to watch the games. It should be a fun day, there are lots of comfy reclining seats, cup holders, and little snack tables for every birdie to have his or her favorite snacks. The screen is huge, too, so we will be able to see both games in excruciating detail, haha.
I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday, let's all root for our favorite teams today in anticipation of the Super Bowl! Hugs, King Peppino

  Hey Finches
We're not sure what the living arrangements are, but she is a Russian Orthodox nun. She sure is talented, too. Maybe the Ps live in the convent, or maybe she has her own place, as some nuns do, even the RC ones.
Those mirrors were sure fun yesterday. I loved the one that made me look tall! Willie liked the one that made him look wavy. Today we are going to visit the wildlife center here on the castle grounds. We can see what animals are here, and see if we can help out. We can all shred paper to take there before we go, too, it's good bedding for some of the animals!
Today mom had a tour with PreK kids, 4 and 5 years old. They were actually well behaved, had parent/teacher chaperones who kept them in line. It was an animal tour, and they saw pretty much the whole second floor.
When mom got home, she walked the dogs, then came upstairs to work on her outline for the docent class. She has decided to eliminate arthropods (too broad for the time limit) and fish (not enough are represented in the museum), and concentrate on the other vertebrate families. So she wrote up an outline for the amphibians, then started on reptiles, but only snakes and lizards so far. Then she looked at the time and decided we needed our blogging time, thank goodness!!!
Last night mom went to the Thai Place for dinner with Aunt Gin. When she got there (first), she ordered tea and an appetizer, figuring that it would arrive when Aunt Ginny did. The waiter asked her if she was in the right restaurant! Apparently they get a lot of customers who come in to wait, then realize they actually wanted the Chinese restaurant next door! Anyway, mom said if they served Thai food, she was in the right place. And Aunt Gin and the appetizer arrived simultaneously. After a lovely spicy Thai dinner, they went to see Selma. It is a wonderful movie, very touching. It was a short snippet from the life of MLK, just from the time he got the Nobel prize until the march from Selma to Montgomery took place. The audience was a diverse mix, with about equal numbers of black, white, old, and young people in attendance. Mom remembers those days so it was particularly touching. At the end, they showed what happened to some of the main characters, and for the march scene, they interspersed some of the actual march footage with the movie. It was well worth seeing.
I hope you are having a bright sunshine filled day, we sure are, even though it's another one of those luke(look)warm days. Get lots of scritches today! Hugs, King Peppino

She's the parront of Poirot (the grey penguin, heehee), Pepper, and Pringle here on BC, but she's hardly ever on any more. She is a good artist, don't you think? Last year she did a head shot of Willie and sent it to mom, so when mom saw on FB that she was offering 5x7 portraits in color, she ordered them of me and Falco, too. Now all 3 of us are hanging in her bedroom in glorious color. If you want something done, message her on FB, she'll be sure to please! Hugs, King Peppino

  Hey Finches
I bet your bigheads were glad it wasn't just them, but Marie does have a particularly big beak! It's a tough problem to solve, but they can teach her, we hope. Mom worked with Willie for about 2 years after one of our neighbors taught him to bite. (And this morning, he nailed mom right above the lip.)
Mom took the buttons to the center today and found out what they will use them for. It's not for the animals at all! They want buttons for craft activities in the education department. The new educator has ideas that kids can do crafts after the programs, so the buttons will be used for things like eyes, decorations, etc. Mom likes the idea of repurposing something that is still useful.
Mom is going to take this Friday off from the center too. A world famous paleontologist, Phil Currie from Alberta, Canada, will give a lecture to the docents on Friday at noon. It will be about Cretaceous dinosaurs, and mom already told them at the center that this is an opportunity she can't miss. Mom took the Coursera course on dinos last year, and Phil Currie was one of the presenters. She had made plans to take a friend to lunch that day, too, but that was easy to reschedule.
Not much going on today, but mom is going to dinner and a movie tonight to celebrate her birthday with Aunt Ginny. They will go to mom's favorite Thai restaurant on that side of town (mom has more than one favorite), then go see Selma.
I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of warm cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Falco

Awwwww, thanks ... I love diamonds!
Mom says she saw that blue and lavender bird on FB. But now, she can't find it ... saw other pics and will send them. Don't blame you for being careful and going to good breeder.
Oh oh, Marie isn't happy that her daddy's were gone so long. It will probably take a few days for her to get over it.
Please put up Sherman & Peabody's page on the BC ... so we can chat.
If your mom's want to ... they can come down to FL for a visit ... we have room and a pool!
Today was sunny with no snow ... YAY! We had a high of 18 and tonight is -12. My parronts took the car to the car "vet" to get ready for our trip. Now we just have 3 more sleeps. I can hardly wait!

  Hey Finches
So we saw on the news last night that there are some folks in Philly who will be renting out their houses or condos for as little as $28,000 during the Pope's visit. Do your moms need some quick cash? They could take the old guy out of town for a few days and rake in the big bucks! Mom says it's worse then when the people in Oakmont rent out their yards for parking during the golf tournaments.
Last night was Daisy's last class for this term. Since mom barely worked with her over the past 2 weeks, she didn't do well. She was fine when mom was having her do her sits, downs, and stays, but when the instructor came by, she stood up and wagged her tail! She was the class clown last night. She still got a certificate, though.
After mom walked the dogs today, she shoveled the driveway, as nobody came by to do it yet. It's about 12 outside with a much colder wind chill.
Today mom had an eye appointment. The good news is that she did not need a shot. The bad news is that she has to go back in 6 weeks. Why is this bad? It's because they are moving the office out to Monroeville, a whole lot closer to our house and with free parking, but they aren't moving until March. So mom and her sis have to drive one more time into Oakland and pay $6 or $7 to park for an hour while mom is at the appointment. They were both hoping the next appointment would be in the new offices.
Hope you are having a good day and getting cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Falco

I'm writing back to you, because my dumb mom clicked on the wrong name. We got Angel Tooth's note, though.
Thanks everybirdie for helping me reach 25k. Cookie cast the big vote!
Today mom did the usual at the center, the raccoons outside and the RVS room with the 2 groundhogs and the 3 bats. The dishes outside were frozen to the ground, as were all the poo and food scraps, so it was tough cleaning. The temps here were 61 yesterday and 17 today, with a wind chill of 3. What a change!
Yesterday mom went out to dinner with her family and had a wonderful Caribbean meal. They went to Kaya in the Strip district, which specializes in kind of pan Caribbean food. They shared appetizers of jerk chicken, conch fritters, and cracklins from tofu (which sounds weird, but tasted good). Mom got spicy paella, which was full of the seafood you'd expect, as well as pineapple, which you wouldn't. They ended the meal with a rum cake from Moio's, the great local Italian bakery.
I hope you are having a good day and getting lots of warm cuddles. Hugs, Falco

Mom has been bad, hasn't she? But we will forgive her because we got a package today with birdie gifts! Even Millie and Lily got one! Mom says we have to wait until Christmas to open them, though. Poor mom, getting bit by Marie can't be fun, that girl has a huge can opener on her face! Hope the uncles are having fun, though, that sounds like a great trip.
Hi, and thanks for your daily visits and votes!
Today we are still downtown, very near the holiday square that we visited yesterday. The buildings and surrounding areas make up PPG Place. The skyscrapers are glass, and pretty impressive, but they have an ice skating rink set up outside right now in the plaza, you can see it with the tree up in my 5th pic. The 6th pic is without the tree, taken later in the winter. The 3rd and 4th pics show the buildings, and the first two pics show an interior space in the main building called the Wintergarden. It's a big, airy open space. Right now there are gingerbread houses in with the plants, but mom's pics are older. They decorate for Christmas every year, too.
I hope you are having a great day, and hope to see you tomorrow! Hugs, Peppino

A pkg came today, thanks. Mom hung up the card and put the pkg under the tree. I really have more things to open than mom ... LOL!
Wasn't it uncle Tim that showed mom a pic of the new cage? That was a really nice cage. It was pricey and mom doesn't have the $$$ to get one for me.
Please tell Mom T-bird that my mom used to drive an hour to work downstate in good weather. It was 1 1/2 in bad weather (sometimes 2 hours).
It was clean Chyna's condo day. I don't like that! I worked hard to get it that way.

OK, who's the bad guy????? I guess it will be the only one that has feathers!!!!
As for Sherman & Peabody ...oh oh, they are building a nest? Sounds like enough for the whole group. Maybe they could sell the nesting paper for some profit? You really need to set up a page here for them. We will not be using that Birdyville.
Glad that mom T-bird likes her new job. How far away is the drive? Tell her not to worry about the windows. dad did ours and now you would never know they were ever clean!
Did Uncle Tim get Einstein's new cage set up? Wasn't he in that huge cage? I guess that Marie only likes her dads.
We always leave our Christmas stuff up until the Epiphany (Little Christmas) too. Not sure what we will do this year as, our vacation isn't long after that.
I saw the sun for an hour today. It made all the snow on the trees and ground look like crystals, very pretty. I don't know why it won't stay. The snow will be back for sure on Tuesday. I hope the sun comes back too. It stays away much too long!

The tumor was cancer, but it was caught early and the vet said the outside margins were clear. She's doing fine for an old gal of 13. We bet mom really misses Tooth as a cuddler. In time, she may want another birdie to cuddle but he or she won't be the Tooth.
Thanks for your vote, and thanks to Aunt Rose, Dixie's mom, for our beautiful and seasonally appropriate pics.
I decided I'd feature Pittsburgh for at least a few days, without getting tedious.
Lots of people have the wrong idea of Pittsburgh, they still think of it like it was in the '50s, Hell with the Lid Off, because of all the mills and pollution. The mills are long gone, the riverfronts have been developed, and it's a great place to visit or to live.
We actually have a beautiful clear skyline today, with lots of tall buildings. But today I want to stress the academic climate here. Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas are home to many colleges and universities. Let's start from where I live and go towards town. There's Chatham College, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, Carlow University, Duquesne University, Point Park College, Robert Morris, and LaRoche. Isn't that a lot of higher education? Mom has a particular fondness for Carlow, where she attended undergrad school on a working scholarship, and the University of Pittsburgh, where she got her Masters degree. Okay, so now you know where the eggheads in Pittsburgh are!
Thanks for your vote, see you again tomorrow, I hope! Hope also that you are having a great day. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Finches
Just a hint about the geraniums: we heard mom talking about it. If you pull out the plants by the roots (before the frost, so it's probably way too late this year) and hang them upside down in a cool dry place for the winter, they should be able to come back in the spring. Mom hasn't tried it because she can't do dahlias or poinsettias due to either temperature or humidity in the garage. Mom's sister has had success though, with geraniums, begonias, and dahlias.
We have a Christmas cactus in bloom, and an amaryllis almost ready to open, not to mention a ton of narcissus, some in bloom, and some still growing.
Well, we are hoping for an end to the seemingly eternal furnace saga today. Yesterday the nice young man stayed and checked absolutely everything out. It was all running nicely when he left, but 2 hours later, the temps were falling and the furnace was not responding. Mom's sister brought over some batteries she had just bought, in case the ones mom put in as replacements were somehow too old. They didn't help! So, mom called the company back. The nice young man called her and asked if she wanted him to come back last night, but she said it was under control, and she'd see him today. Well, it was 57 again this morning when mom got up! She turned off and restarted the furnace like he had showed her yesterday, and it worked to warm the house.
Mom went ahead and ran a couple of errands before going to the center for her shift, so she would be home by noon. She called the company when she got home just to let them know, and the secretary didn't have her on the schedule for today! You can imagine mom's dismay. They finally got it straightened out, and the same guy will come today to install the new switches. We all sincerely hope this is the end of the story, because it's getting old. Plus, mom worries about how these temperature changes are affecting us birds. Mom is listening for changes in our breathing and is really alert to our posture. So far, we all seem to be okay.
This morning at the center, mom cleaned the main aviary, the little screech owl in the habitat building, and the raptor aviaries. There is a turkey in one of them, heehee. We know, turkeys are not raptors. It is keeping him close to the building, though, so he can't get as cold as he would if he were in a free standing outdoor pen.
The pigeon is still gaining weight, and the little waxwings have their light, so mom was happy to see that. LT. Dan, the wood turtle, is still trying to escape, but not bruising his little armpits, because the pillowcase solution seems to be working.
We may be late or not get online at all tomorrow because mom is working an event from 11 to 4, so if you don't hear from us, we're okay. She was going to have Jake the snake with her, but they have her assigned to Quincy and Dan Quail instead. They put others with the snake, turtles, Irwin, etc.
I hope you are having a warmer time than we are, and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Falc

We made it thru the worst and didn't lose power. Looks like two more days of heavy snow. It was so windy last night that it howled all night long. Today was full of whiteouts and strong winds again. V4U today. Our weather has turned very cold, winter weather has set in and is here to stay. At least the lawn mower is taking its long winters nap. Just hope we won't be needing the snow shovel too soon. LOL :) Have a good day. From, Mayo

Come visit me, Mayo, Dandy & Marigold.

  Hi Finches
That sounds like a lovely way to spend time. HOpe the moms had fun. Mom asked Bree about sitting in December, so now she needs to know where you are staying and for one night or 2? She's thinking for herself, 2 nights might be better, she can come in on the 5th, go to the show on the 6th, and leave the 7th to go back home. If Debbie M. is going, maybe they could be roommates? Let us know. It's probably easier to phone and find out.
It's been kind of dreary looking here yesterday and today. It rained all night, we think, and when mom walked the dogs this morning, it was drizzling a bit. It gave her a chance to wear her new rain jacket, though. She also went shopping for us, a few fruits and veggies.
Later today it's cage cleaning again, since trash goes out tonight for tomorrow morning. Mom has a 'date' with her sister to do some shopping and go to dinner at Mitchell's, a nice seafood place on the waterfront a little later today, but mostly she will be home with us, YAY. Hope you are having a fun day and getting some cuddles as well. Hugs, Falco

Come visit me, Gizmo and Divo, mom loves you both, Willie, Peppino & Falco.

  Hi PM & Al
Well, we will find a way. I think mom will have aunt Gail plant them. Then when mom moves to a warmer area (hehe) she can get it back!
I just knew that Mom-T would do very well and I hope that job opens up soon for her.
Thank you for liking my royal portrait. You knew I had to have my diamonds on ... hehehe.
Please say hi to your G-pa, Patrick, Tim and Mike for me and mom. And of course a big hug to both moms from both of us.
It's still raining ... I'd better get the ark ready! We just got an email tonight for a winter wonderland get away. Are they crazy?????
Hugs

  Hi PM & Al
Mom is so bummed out about those seeds. maybe she will try to grow a couple and give the rest to aunt Gail. Since it is a large bush, it would be hard to bring in every winter.
Maybe your mom can come here and paint. I see a lot of rooms in this house that need it.
Going on another trip to Williamsburg ... how nice. So, how did her test go?
It was another cold day and the snow is still here! I did something clever today ... at least mom thinks so. I was eating a pellet and wanted a drink. I didn't want to waste time so, I held on to the pellet with my beak really good while drinking from my water bottle. I never dropped it and continued eating ... hehehe.
Stay warm!
Hugs

  Hi PM & Al
Please tell your moms that we received the flower seeds and lovely card. Many thanks. Maybe we'll have aunt Gail grow it for us ... she is in the right zone.
