`Ü´ Greetings & OH! MY!! GOODness!!!
My Finchly Society Featheriends!

Does anybirdy ELSE realize how much there is to KNOW about FootBall??? Why … I had no idea how much I DIDN’T KNOW until Momma consented to help me learn for the sake of my Quest for the Bird of the Month Crown, and sharing her passion for The Game so that I might understand all of the HoopLa that I hear coming from the area of the television every time she watches a Game!!

Well! As promised, we shall begin our investigation into the individual responsibilities of the Players in each Position today. But I fear it will never fit into one day’s note. So we shall simply spread it out over several days so that you, My Featheriends, can take it all in and not fall asleep before you learn what you need to know!

You may recall from our earlier information that the NFL limits active, uniformed Players to 45 per Team on Game Day.

Each FootBall Team has 11 Players per side: 11 on Offense and 11 on Defense. Teams are allowed to play with fewer than 11 Players (and for the LIFE of me I can’t IMAGINE WHY they would WANT to???), but they are penalized for having more than 11 Players on the Field during play. Rarely, a few eggsceptionally talented Players may play both Offense and Defense in the NFL. (And I do believe that we have a few of those eggsceptionally talented Birdie FootBall Players on the Indians and Pilgrims Team Rosters!)

A typical NFL Game Day roster includes three QuarterBacks, a Punter, a PlaceKicker, a Kick Return Specialist, eight Offensive LineMen, four Running Backs, five Receivers, two Tight Ends, seven Defensive LineMen, seven LineBackers, and six Defensive Backs. (The NONSTARTING Players – that is, those who are not among the 22 or so Players who are listed in the Starting LineUp – are considered Reserves, and many of them are Specialists.)

In the NFL, an additional Player can be in uniform, but he must be a QuarterBack and enter the Game only after the other QuarterBacks have been removed from the Game because of injury. When this eggstra QuarterBack, or 46th Player, enters the Game, the other QuarterBacks are deemed ineligible and cannot return to that Game even if they are healthy.

With our very own 3rd Annual Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game approaching in a little over a week, and Players needing and wanting to know how to practice to yield the most effective results, when we next meet I shall delve into the individual Positions on the Offensive Squad.

Before I depart this evening, though, I do wish to thank you, once again, for your wonderful continuing support of my efforts to be your Christmas Queen on BirdChannel. I am truly beginning to feel the eggscitement of the prospect of having my dream realized. You and your featheriendship are appreciated more than you know.

A bientot, mes amies,

  Hi Finches
Just a hint about the geraniums: we heard mom talking about it. If you pull out the plants by the roots (before the frost, so it's probably way too late this year) and hang them upside down in a cool dry place for the winter, they should be able to come back in the spring. Mom hasn't tried it because she can't do dahlias or poinsettias due to either temperature or humidity in the garage. Mom's sister has had success though, with geraniums, begonias, and dahlias.
We have a Christmas cactus in bloom, and an amaryllis almost ready to open, not to mention a ton of narcissus, some in bloom, and some still growing.
Well, we are hoping for an end to the seemingly eternal furnace saga today. Yesterday the nice young man stayed and checked absolutely everything out. It was all running nicely when he left, but 2 hours later, the temps were falling and the furnace was not responding. Mom's sister brought over some batteries she had just bought, in case the ones mom put in as replacements were somehow too old. They didn't help! So, mom called the company back. The nice young man called her and asked if she wanted him to come back last night, but she said it was under control, and she'd see him today. Well, it was 57 again this morning when mom got up! She turned off and restarted the furnace like he had showed her yesterday, and it worked to warm the house.
Mom went ahead and ran a couple of errands before going to the center for her shift, so she would be home by noon. She called the company when she got home just to let them know, and the secretary didn't have her on the schedule for today! You can imagine mom's dismay. They finally got it straightened out, and the same guy will come today to install the new switches. We all sincerely hope this is the end of the story, because it's getting old. Plus, mom worries about how these temperature changes are affecting us birds. Mom is listening for changes in our breathing and is really alert to our posture. So far, we all seem to be okay.
This morning at the center, mom cleaned the main aviary, the little screech owl in the habitat building, and the raptor aviaries. There is a turkey in one of them, heehee. We know, turkeys are not raptors. It is keeping him close to the building, though, so he can't get as cold as he would if he were in a free standing outdoor pen.
The pigeon is still gaining weight, and the little waxwings have their light, so mom was happy to see that. LT. Dan, the wood turtle, is still trying to escape, but not bruising his little armpits, because the pillowcase solution seems to be working.
We may be late or not get online at all tomorrow because mom is working an event from 11 to 4, so if you don't hear from us, we're okay. She was going to have Jake the snake with her, but they have her assigned to Quincy and Dan Quail instead. They put others with the snake, turtles, Irwin, etc.
I hope you are having a warmer time than we are, and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Falc

  `Ü´ Greetings & Good Evening
My Finchly Society Featheriends!

I am flitting by this evening for a very short visit to share with you a little bit of the great fun I had this Tuesday past presenting a program with Momma for The Sylvan Seniors at Mt Sylvan United Methodist Church in Durham, where Momma and Daddy attend. (They do not attend the s-e-n-i-o-r-s functions. **TeeHee** They attend CHURCH there.)

Momma and I were given half an hour to address the group, to share what Life with a Parrot is like, for most of them had never had an eggsperience with a companion parrot; particularly not one of my size! When we have a program like that, Momma usually starts out by eggsplaining how she and Daddy came to start a flock like the K Kritter Korral, and how it grew; and then, through sheer human curiosity, we have a wonderful conversation about what all is entailed in living with a parrot (or parrotS). Of course, I-I-I contribute greatly to program content; this time including a stroll back and forth in front of the front row at one point, for emphasis of the subject matter at hand. (At just the right point in time I climbed down off my play stand and let Momma know I had something to add. **GRiN**)

When our time for the presentation was over, the group had some lunch together. I was given my fill of some lovely white grapes by a number of brave ladies and gentlemen, and then several of them wanted to have their picture taken with me. In my Gallery at the bottom of my page you can see just a couple of the lovely folks I visited with parrotsonally.

I shall return with those promised eggsplanations of the positions of the players on a FootBall team when next I visit.

Toutes alors, mes amies,
[Until then, My Featheriends]

  Hi Finches
Up North Update:

We made it thru the worst and didn't lose power. Looks like two more days of heavy snow. It was so windy last night that it howled all night long. Today was full of whiteouts and strong winds again. The roads are very icy. I watched my dad plow snow most of the day. Then he was using the roof rake, I didn't like that part when the snow came down and made a big thud! Boy, is it ever COLD up here! I have my footie pj's on and a big fluffy robe. Mom & I have been hitting the hot chocolate. Come over if you want to go sledding or use the snow shoes.

  Hi Finches
I know you aren't on the BC very much but, here's my update :(

Well, it was a good thing my parronts went down to Traverse City today. It wasn't bad going down but, coming home the weather got worse. Just in case I lose power, here's the story. We have a winter storm warning thru Wednesday at 5am with up to 12 more inches of snow. Road conditions will be bad with whiteouts and 40 mph winds. We are staying home. This means I get lots of attention! Get out extra blankets, footie pj's and a ton of hot chocolate!

North Update:

Hope every birdie is having a nice weekend. Saturday thru Tuesday will be snow with highs of 19 to 27 degrees for us. The roads are covered in ice and I don't think we will see the ground again until late spring. Hope you are wearing your footie pj's and having a nice cup of hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows.

We have 6 to 8 inches on the ground and it won't go away :(

  Hi Finches
That sounds like a lovely way to spend time. HOpe the moms had fun. Mom asked Bree about sitting in December, so now she needs to know where you are staying and for one night or 2? She's thinking for herself, 2 nights might be better, she can come in on the 5th, go to the show on the 6th, and leave the 7th to go back home. If Debbie M. is going, maybe they could be roommates? Let us know. It's probably easier to phone and find out.
It's been kind of dreary looking here yesterday and today. It rained all night, we think, and when mom walked the dogs this morning, it was drizzling a bit. It gave her a chance to wear her new rain jacket, though. She also went shopping for us, a few fruits and veggies.
Later today it's cage cleaning again, since trash goes out tonight for tomorrow morning. Mom has a 'date' with her sister to do some shopping and go to dinner at Mitchell's, a nice seafood place on the waterfront a little later today, but mostly she will be home with us, YAY. Hope you are having a fun day and getting some cuddles as well. Hugs, Falco

Well, we will find a way. I think mom will have aunt Gail plant them. Then when mom moves to a warmer area (hehe) she can get it back!
I just knew that Mom-T would do very well and I hope that job opens up soon for her.
Thank you for liking my royal portrait. You knew I had to have my diamonds on ... hehehe.
Please say hi to your G-pa, Patrick, Tim and Mike for me and mom. And of course a big hug to both moms from both of us.
It's still raining ... I'd better get the ark ready! We just got an email tonight for a winter wonderland get away. Are they crazy?????

  Hi PM & Al
Mom is so bummed out about those seeds. maybe she will try to grow a couple and give the rest to aunt Gail. Since it is a large bush, it would be hard to bring in every winter.
Maybe your mom can come here and paint. I see a lot of rooms in this house that need it.
Going on another trip to Williamsburg ... how nice. So, how did her test go?
It was another cold day and the snow is still here! I did something clever today ... at least mom thinks so. I was eating a pellet and wanted a drink. I didn't want to waste time so, I held on to the pellet with my beak really good while drinking from my water bottle. I never dropped it and continued eating ... hehehe.
Stay warm!

`Ü´ Greetings and Happy Halloween, Finch Society!
It is I, Ruby Francesca Begonia; the GirlBird who is dreaming of being voted the Bird of the Month for December. I don’t suppose you remember me now … Dooooo You? *GRiN*

I have been a member of this BirdChannel Community since August the 2nd of 2007. I am actually the Official Flock Leader of The K Kritter Korral; not that loud beaked frother of mine, (Ö> CR Jake, as HE would have everybirdy believe. It is understandable, though, that everybirdy would think that, since he does seem to have more to say than any of the rest of us in the flock.

I am just stopping by today to say “Hello” and to introduce myself (or Reintroduce, as the case may be) to everybirdy before my “Run for the Roses” commences tomorrow. And I am also inviting you to stop by my page (#35469) each day during the month of November to see what Momma and I have been able to come up with to entertain you and make it worth your while to cast your invaluable vote to help me attain my goal. Because, as everybirdy knows, this coveted Award does not just fall out of the sky each month. It takes work. And a desire to have a LARGE AMOUNT of FUN to make it happen.

And FUN is precisely what I intend to conjure up for everybirdy, as much as a GRITS GirlBird can. **TeeHee** I say that because, you may have noticed that my way of speaking may seem just a bit odd to you. That is because a “GRITS” GirlBird stands for a GirlBird Raised In The South, as I was; and as you may well know, we Southerners have a distinct way of speaking. I hope I will not be too formal for your tastes, and that we will all be able to have a great time … even if it does take a bit of getting used to. I shall try my hardest to give you all a good time!

Also by way of introduction, you may or may not recognize me as a partner with Miss Alex of the La Habra Flock in The Pretty Rose Flower Shop (Page #188440). If in no other way, you may recognize who I am from your having placed an order or received a Floral Gift from our Shop at some point. If that is how we have met, I do hope we have served you well and that you will give us many more opportunities to do so again in the future.

But I ramble on. Suffice it to say that I hope what Momma and I have planned for you for the month will be both fun and interesting. And, at this point, I also wish to thank Mr Jesse, the October candidate for November Bird of the Month, for his kind invitation for all of you to come play with me during his reign.

  Hi Finches
Good luck to Mom T with the interview! I know we were by already to congratulate you but I had some things to share with you too. Mom got more marigold seeds from her sis so if your bighead is interested, she can send some of those too. She doesn't know what kind, though, because her sister doesn't separate the marigold seeds.
What a football game yesterday! It was a real quarterback battle, and the Steelers tried to give it away in the second half, but they ultimately prevailed. Mom doesn't remember seeing such a high scoring pro game ever.
Today at the center, mom did all the RVS animals, because she was the only RVS person on the schedule for the day. She cleaned the outdoor raccoon cages, then went in to find the bat. At first she didn't see it, she peeked under the towels hanging from the sides of its terrarium and it wasn't there. Then she took out the tiny lid that was in the bottom of the cage with water in it. She was a little worried that the bat had escaped at this point. When she removed the water, she noticed a tiny lump in the towel at the bottom of the cage. She lifted it carefully, and the bat was there. It was laying directly on the heating pad, so the poor little one must have been cold last night. There was a frost here, but the furnace at the center usually kicks on. Maybe the heat didn't extend into the RVS room, or the bat just needed some extra heat. Anyway, it took a bit of effort to get it to start eating, but once it got started, it ate 20 mealworms. It's hard to imagine, but mom thinks with 20 mealworms you could probably construct a whole bat, so she doesn't know where the bat puts all that food. Maybe they have hollow legs or something, heehee.
If you think we birds eat a lot, you haven't seen bats eat.
After the center, mom mailed a package, then got gas and went shopping for a little lunch. Now she's home with us, and we get to blog. It's another beautiful day here, crisp and cool, but sunny. The lawn guys came today and cleaned up all the leaves, so the lawn looks as nice as the gardens do now.
I hope you are having a good day, getting some sunshine and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

V4U today. Our flock sure does like the cooler weather because it gets mom in the kitchen to do more cooking and baking. And yes, not only have we been eating squash, we also have been served sweet potatoes. I must admit that our flock prefers sweet potatoes. LOL :) The fall seems to be flying by so quickly. To think it's almost November, then Thanksgiving. Have a good day. From, Mayo

Come visit me, Mayo, Dandy & Marigold.

  Hi Finches
Bighead here suggests you sort the seeds, put them in the fridge for the winter, then toss them on the ground in the spring, it's so much easier that way, and they need to have a 'winter' to mellow. Congrats to Bighead T on scoring an interview with her fantastic test! We will try the beautyberries, maybe start them in containers in the spring to see if any germinate. If not, we will let you know, but it's a lot of work digging out roots.
Yesterday Willie's lamp went out in the middle of the day. Mom looked at it, changed the bulb, which didn't fix the problem, then unplugged it. She looked more carefully and it looked like Mr. Willie chewed a piece of the cord, so she took it to be repaired today. The guy at the store thinks the tiny hole in the cord wouldn't have caused a problem so they will keep it and see what's wrong. While she was out, mom got new branch loppers today, because she can't find the ones she thought were here. Of course, we all know what will happen, right? As soon as she starts using the new ones, the old ones will show up. Well, so far, that hasn't happened. She used the new ones to chop down some rose branches that were too close to the mailbox, as well as a weed bush growing on the end of the yard. Then she got the hedge choppers and cut down some of the peony bushes. She took down the fountain, cleaned it and put it away for the winter. Then she put out the scarecrows and pumpkins. So far, no old branch loppers have made an appearance. She came inside because it got too damp and chilly to keep working out there. Now mom is ours for the rest of the day.
I hope you are having a good day today, getting lots of love and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Happy Thanksgiving, Peppino, Happy Thanksgiving, Divo & Falco, Happy Thanksgiving.
