  Hi my darling Casey!
Hi everybirdy!
Tia here, sorry I haven't been around in quite awhile, sooooo much has been going on, I'll let u know all about it. Mom FINALLY unpacked the box that contained her notebook that has everybirdy's page #s! Today, mom & I ask for ur prayers.

A good friend of mom's has an adorable 4 yr old daughter, Mila. The past 14 months have been a horrific nightmare for Dawn, Mila's mother. Mila was born with Li Fraumeni Syndrome, which is an EXTREMELY RARE genetic condition. Certain receptors shut off & leaves that person very prone to cancer. Last summer, Mila began acting strangely...bobbing her head around, running into things, suddenly falling down & grabbing her head & screaming. Her pediatrician immediately ordered a brain MRI. Dawnh& Neil were devastated to learn that their precious 3 yr old daughter had Choroid Plexus Carcinoma, an EXTREMELY RARE & very aggressive brain cancer. Mila had brain surgery 3 days later. It was touch & go for the 1st week, they had to restart her heart 4 times. Miraculously, she made it thru, although she spent 3 months in intensive care. She was released fromthe hospital 2 days before Christmas...a true Christmas miracle...Mila had ABSOLUTELY NO mental deficit! Since then, she must have an MRI every 3 months. All of them had been perfectly spotless - until her MRI last week.

Mila now has 2 aggressive tumors - the larger one, the size of a small navel orange, & the other is a bit larger than a golfball. The larger one is in the same spot as the one removed last year, but it is tangled in her nerves & has been deemed inoperable. She will once again have to endure chemotherapy & this time start radiation. The smaller tumor will be removed. I just spoke to her mom Dawn, they will be leaving for Children's Hosp in Pittsburgh in a couple hrs. Mila will be having brain surgery tomorrow morning at 7:30am. to remove the smaller tumor & hopefully be able to remove part at least part of the larger one. We are all heartbroken that this precious little girl hasto go thru tthis again. I hope all our dear friends will say a special prayer for Mila, that God in Heaven will once again restore her health! Thank you my dear friends & God Bless u all.

Hi sweetheart! I'm sooooo excited to be spending one WHOLE MONTH with u on ur fister's exciting island tour...I can hardly wait!!! Mom & I have an idea...BUT ONLY if it's OK with u, Momma Deb, & especially ur fister, Angel Girl. With all the large, extravagant BC weddings, mom & I were thinking of something different! I've been telling mom that I would like for us to elope, but mom thought of something different. She thought maybe we could have a surprise wedding, followed by a picnic reception one day during the island tourwith all our friends there, but ONLY if it is acceptable with everybirdy. We don't want to cause any hurt feelings or step on anyone's birdytoes, especially ur fister's & Momma Deb's! We could always elope when ur fister's tour is over & have a picnic reception afterwards. Please let me know what u & Momma Deb think!

I've missed u sooooo much!!! So sorry I haven't been on for months! Mom & I & the rest of the critters just moved on Monday, we're so exhausted we have only unpacked a couple boxes. Sissy was driving mom bonkers, & mom was getting more stressed. Mom has to have surgery on her foot & shoulder, & doesn't know which to do first! I didn't know that ur fister Zeena had been running for BOTM, mom really feels bad about not supporting her campaign. I hope all is well with ur family. Please have ur mom call my mom when she gets a chance. She would surely love hearing from ur sweet Momma Deb!

July 8th blog-Part 2 of the Ara Project
Hello Everybird, Zeena here with the continuing article on the Ara Project. Today we will look at the Great Green Macaw ( Military or Buffon's). We will look at their distribution and what has pushed them to the point of extinction.

Once prevalent throughout the entire Caribbean, Great Green Macaw (Ara ambiguus) populations have declined alarmingly in recent years due to poaching and deforestation, in particular the cutting of Mountain Almond trees. BirdLife International states" that over the past 50 years global populations have been reduced by half." A census conducted in the Cordillera de Chongon Colonche and Esmeraldas Province in Ecuador in 2010 found only 8 birds, with the current population in all of Ecuador suspected to be 30-40 birds (E. Horstman in litt. 2012). Recent conservation efforts in Costa Rica have stabilized numbers with less than 300 birds and an estimated 25-35 breeding pairs remaining (PsittaScene Aug. 2011). There are less then 1000 individuals in South American.

Unsustainable exploitation, poaching for the wild bird trade
Subspecies guayaquilensis reportedly shot as a crop-pest
Conversion of forest to oil-palm and banana plantations, causing the loss of the large Mountain Almond
Increased impact of logging, agriculture, illegal coca plantations, gold mining and hunting
Illegal trapping for in-country trade, food and feathers

This macaw prefers lowland humid forest and also strongly deciduous forest; in Costa Rica lowland primary forest. It is found at altitudes to 600m (1968 ft) in Costa Rica and1000m (3280 ft) in Panama. Less gregarious than other large macaws, it is found in pairs and groups of 3-4 birds, foraging on fruits and flowers.

Tomorrow we will take a closer look at the Scarlet Macaws, and what we can do to help save the remaining populations.

  July 4th BOTM Blog
Hello everybird, Zeena here with today's BOTM blog. First I wish all my US friends a happy and safe 4th of July Holiday. It is also the day that my little fister Little Angel will marry her beloved Dixie. Their wedding will take place on the BC Castle page number 239094. All are invited to join these two "love-birds" this evening at 6PM Eastern Time as they share their vows of love. The reception will follow on the same page. Today we will take a peek into a few nesting boxes around the world and see what we find. Come on, let's be very quiet, as we explore the many new Blue and Gold Macaw mutations .Color Mutations are considered "pure" birds. They occur in nature, although rarely and if they do, they often don't survive long, if the "new color" is too vibrant and they are easily visible by predators.

Color mutations in captivity are perpetuated by breeding like colored birds to like colored birds (of two birds that carry the color gene). The resultant offspring will often be the color that is desired. Hybrids are the crossing of two species, whereas mutations occur spontaneously.

Most of us know the Blue and Yellow Macaw. Many of us own one or more, however there are some really eggciting new mutations I'd like us to take a look at. We are most familiar with the typical blue and Gold. However there is a larger variant from Bolivia called the Bolivian Blue and Gold Macaw. The Bolivian variety is distinguished by its larger size and its coloring. On all these Macaws the colors are vibrant, but the Bolivian has more of a true blue rather than the teal blue seen in the average Blue and Gold. They all share the same wonderful personality and characteristics.

The Bolivian Blue and Gold Macaw is a variant originating only in Bolivia. It looks just like the typical Blue and Gold, however, it is much larger. A mutation of the Blue and Gold Macaw has also been reported where the yellow coloring is absent creating a blue and white bird. Although seldom seen or available there are many new mutations being bred. Many sell for over $50,0US each.
Momma Deb told me she would love to have one of each, they are so beautiful, I am certain you will have to agree.

  July 3rd BOTM Post
Hello everybirdie. Zeena here with today's Rainforest findings. I wish to thank everyone for their awesome support and hope you will enjoy today's feature species.
The Harpy Eagle is a majestic shadow that silently soars above the Rainforest canopy. Once common, and plentiful, today they rest on the brink of extinction. Previously a common sight in Brazil, the Harpy Eagle has become as rare as seeing a unicorn would be. Hunted to near extinction for their feathers, sport and out of fear and concern for their livestock, these awesome giants of the Raptor world are rapidly disappearing. These birds terrify hapless animals that forage in the shifting sunlight of the high canopy. Harpy eagle is the largest and the most powerful raptor throughout America. They belong to the family of accipitridae. American harpy eagle typically inhabits lowland rainforests but are disappearing from much of its range due to habitat loss and it almost extirpated in Central America.
The Harpy Eagle weighs in at 20 to 27 pounds for a hen and 12 to 17 pounds for a male, standing between 40 and 60 inches in length, sporting 5 to 7 inch talons it is a formidable predator dining on a diet consisting largely of sloth and moneys, with other animals making up the balance. In flight the Harpy flies on strong 5 to 7 foot wide spans, silent and watchful for a meal below in the dense Rain Forest canopy.
With wide spread clear-cutting and man's guns, the Harpy Eagle is soon going to be gone from the wild habitat it once claimed. Nesting in tree top nests, the single chick remains with the parents for up to two years. Pairs mate for life thus making it harder to rebuild endangered populations. Many Harpy Eagles have be poached for the private collector market relentlessly, with current breeding programs being established to help stave off their total elimination. Used by Bird of Prey enthusiasts and trained to hunt on command. Many die from lack of proper diet, and education of would be owners. New Government regulations being in place it is hoped to make owning Harpy Eagles a more difficult objective. Would be owners now have to finish a Government regulated Raptors training program which entails sixteen to eighteen months apprenticeship training in care, training and husbandry.
Tomorrow we will take a closer look at a new and exciting find that is shaking the bird community. Discovered in a nestbox, this unusual baby has enthusiasts in awe.
A quick reminder that on Friday July 4th my fister LITTLE ANGEL THRIFT will wed the handsome Mr Dixie Adler at the BC Castle page number

Hello everybirdie, Zeena here with today's BOTM post. As we land in Brazil, we are cautioned to be very quiet so we don't disturb the Macaws. SHhhhhh!

The Spix's Macaw (Cyanopsitta spixii), also known as the Little Blue Macaw, is a macaw native to Brazil.First discovered by German naturalist Georg Marcgrave, when he was working in the State of Pernambuco, Brazil in 1638 and it is named for German naturalist Johann Baptist von Spix, who collected a specimen in 1819 on the bank of the Rio São Francisco in northeast Bahia in Brazil.
The bird is a medium size parrot weighing about 300 grams (0.66 lb), smaller than most of the large macaws. Its plumage is various shades of blue, with a grey-blue head, light blue underparts, and vivid blue upperparts. Males and females are identical in appearance, the females being a little smaller on average. The Spix Macaw is reported to be extinct in the wild, with the disappearance of one last single male in 2000. All remaining Spix Macaws are now kept in several private breeding programs without the world. Due to their extremely small numbers none are available for public viewing. The largest colony of approximately 40 birds is currently owned by an Arab sheik who has been working on breeding these beautiful birds with the final hope that they will be able to be released into their former remaining habitat.
The Spix Macaws were destroyed in the wild by excessive deforestation and hunting. The colonies were ruthlessly killed, poached for the pet trade and shot for pure sport until they had been eliminated in their territory. The introduction of predators into their habitat, including rats, monkeys and feral cats also aided the quick decline in wild Spix populations. In recent years there have been isolated reports of Spix Macaws in land in protected, isolated locations but this has not been publicly verified, although it possibly might be true, to protect what remaining wild pairs there are.
A sad note, this past Wednesday PRESLEY, the second to last known wild-born member of the species flew to the Rainbow Bridge after a brief illness. Presley had been kept as a pet in the USA for years, but was returned to Brazil in 2008. He left no progeny. He was 40 years old at his death.
Presley's death is a blow to conservation efforts in both a symbolic and literal sense. Critically endangered, these native Brazilian birds (Cyanopsitta spixii) are believed to be extinct in the wild. Decades of deforestation and rampant wildlife trafficking have besieged the medium-size macaws, who also ended up having to compete for nest space with introduced Africanized honeybees.
Now with fewer then 100 living specimens, most closely related, the Spix Macaws future hangs in the balance. This spring heralded in the hatching of 5 babies, 3 of which were due to artificial insemination. Perhaps someday our grandchildren will be able to see the wild Spixs fly free once more.

  Hello Everybirdie
Today we kick off my month of July BOTM run with a special celebration. It's Canada Day here with all the food, fun, family and firework displays. I hate fireworks, too noisy, but being a Macaw I'm always up for some food, and fun. I want to begin this month by telling you a little bit about myself. Most of you already know my handsome frother SKY, my mischievous fister Little Angel and my adventurous frother Casey, but some may not know me birdsonally.
I joined the Sky Flock in 2013. It was Easter weekend when Momma Deb received the call from my former owner to "come today and get her PLEASE!!!!!" I am sure glad that Momma Deb did, because it was the best thing that happened to me in a long while. I had lived with my first owners for 13-14 years but it became necessary to rehome me and I was sold to a lady who had a whole house full of very large, very aggressive Pitbulls and Rottweilers. I never left my cage and spent a whole year and some living in fear of being attacked by the dogs. I thought things were going to get better when once more I was resold. The lady who bought me had two large dogs who constantly barked and growled at me. I was so stressed I began to pluck some of my feathers out and I never spoke, and hadn't in 2 1/2 years.
It was my best day when Momma Deb arrived to take me away from there. I'd only been there a short while but I was relieved to be going somewhere I hoped would be better. I am very happy here at the Sky Flock, I get out of my cage all the time and love to yell at the other birds to be quiet. Momma Deb discovered I have a rather extensive vocabulary and know how to count to sixteen, and know a number of songs as well.
Enough about me. Let's get our suitcases, cameras and sunscreen ready as we begin our trip to every corner of the world. We will visit some very rare and endangered species, learn about some interesting and unusual birds, and my favorite take a look at some of the awesome mutations showing up around the planet of some of our most common feathered friends.
I will see every one tomorrow.

  Hi Casey darling!
How are u sweetie? Well, it looks like luck is on our side today! Our county was supposed to get 10 plus inches of snow from late Saturday night thru Monday 1pm, but it's been down graded to 3-6 inches...tho it's snowing pretty good right now! Luckily, it looks like the g-kids will have a 2 hr delay instead of A cancellation...all snow days have been used & any more missed days must be made up at end of school year.
Today, we will finish the Parrot's Bill of Rights.

Just as I don't always understand ur peculiarities, u may not understand mine. I don't TRY to get in trouble - remember...a house is NOT the jungle. If I DO screw up, don't yell at me & NEVER hit me! I have very sensitive ears & I may never trust u again if u strike me. Hands are sometimes scary things to us. (Why in the world would u not be zygodactylous like us?) Even more importantly, we don't learn by punishment. We are gentle creatures who only strike back to protect ourselves; we learn through patience & love.
I know u get upset with me when I knock over my water bowl, throw food, scream or pluck my feathers. I don't do these to annoy u - I am probably trying to tell u something (perhaps that I am hurting, lonely, or sad). Learn to speak MY (body) language. Remember that I, alone of all creatures on this planet, learn to speak yours!
I am a unique & feeling being. No two of us are alike. Please don't be disappointed in me if I don't talk like u wanted, or can't do the tricks that ur friend's parrot can do. But if u pay close attention to me (& I always empathize with u, whether u know it or not), I will show u a unique being who will give u so much more than talking & playing. Give me a chance to show u who I am; I think you'll find the effort worth it. And remember - I am NOT an ornament; I DO NOT enhance ANY living room decor. And I am NOT a status symbol - if u use me as such, I might nip at your turned-up nose!
Above all, PLEASE remember that u are my Special Person. I put all my trust & faith in u. We parrots are used to being monogamous (no bar-hopping for us!) So please don't go away for long periods or give me away. That would be a sadness from which I may never recover.
If that seems to be asking a lot, remember - u could have learned about my needs BEFORE bringing me home. Even having a baby or taking a new job isn't a fair reason - you made a commitment to me FIRST! And if u think that u must leave me because u might die, provide for me forever after u leave. I may live to a ripe old age but I can't provide for myself. Remember I'm in a small cage amongst people who are NOT of my blood.
AWE SHUCKS! Blog too long & cut off! Will finish last part tomorrow & continue with first aid - poisoning & toxicity. See u tomorrow sweetie!

  Hi sweetheart!
How are u sweetie? Congrats to my BBFF Snowflake for winning BOTM! She will be an amazing queen!

A PARROT'S BILL OF RIGHTS. by Stewart A. Metz, M.D.
I am NOT a domesticated pet like a dog or cat. I still have the spirit of the jungle in me. I have special needs, which u may find it hard to fill. Please don't learn these too late for my well-being. And please don't acquire one of my cousins wild from the will jeopardize his survival & well-being, & that won't be a party for u either!
I am used to flying through rainforests or savannahs. I have given up this great gift for ur pleasure. At the very least, give me enough room to flap my wings & exercise. And o need toys for my amusement & wood to chew...otherwise, I might confuse ur home with the forest & its trees.
I need a wide variety of fresh & nutritious foods, even if they take time to prepare. I cannot survive on seed alone. Take time to learn what mynneeds are.
I am a gregarious flock animal...but I am NOT one of u. I need lots of socialization to learn how to act with u, & with my siblings. I also need to have adequate quality time with u every day - no matter what it schedule or other needs are. I am a living, feeling creature. Above all, I need to be able to have complete trust in u, & count on ur predictability in looking after me - EVERY DAY.
I may like to drop food or even throw it, but I need meticulous cleanliness to be healthy. My skin itches without frequent showers, the barbs of my feathers won't seal if they become oily & worst of all, I may become ill if my food & water is not always sanitary.
U may not understand my physiology & therefore u may not recognize it early on when I get sick. And it may be too late when u do, because I hide my illnesses (remember what I said about my being an animal of the jungle, where there are lots of predictors). And I need an avian vet - a specialisy (no HMOs for me please). If u can't afford one, perhaps u shouldn't have taken me home.
I will send u the 2nd part tomorrow. Have a great day sweetie!

  Hi sweetheart!
How are u sweetie? WOW, did this month fly by! I can't believe this is my last day as ur BOTM queen! But I'm very happy & excited for my dear friend Snowflake, who will be my successor! First thing tomorrow, I will hand over the castle keys, & take her by the wing & give her the grand tour of her new home for the month!
Tomorrow, I will send u the first part of A Parrot's Bill of Rights. It's like a parrot owners manual, short version, with a bit of comic relief added in! Today, I will finish A Parrot's Prayer. I have to warn u, the second part is as heartbreaking as the first, & will leave a lump in ur throat.

For all the macaws, cockatoos, amazons & conures that are stripped of their vocal cords for screaming; their sensitive beaks cut back to prevent biting.
For all birds that end up for sale in pet shops or breeders like used merchandise, unwanted & frightened in strange surroundings with nothing more than the familiar sight of bars on a cage.
For all the neglected birds that are sick with infections from filthy conditions & malnourishment that may never recover & know what it is like to feel healthy & be playful.
For all the misconceived parrots who were beaten, stabbed, blinded & burned for just being a parrot.
For every african grey, cockatoo & macaw that punishes itself by maiming their bodies & plucking their feathers & for those who have lost all spirit of life & sway their head low from side to side slowly into insanity.
We ask humbly of you dear Lord to look upon all of your magnificent feather creations, protect them from evil & harm caused by man & to bring forth an awakening in the human heart & make it a kinder, gentler world for all captive birds.
Written by Sally Brooks

  Hi sweetheart!
How are u sweetie? What a month I'm having! I'M THE QUEEN, but I've been banished to the dungeon (my cage is in sissy's basement)! Mom had been sick, so I don't understand why she went on vacation for 4 days to a place called a hospital! She won a trip there coz she had something called pneumonia. It seems to have been a good place for her to go coz she doesn't look like a walking zombie anymore! Another good thing that came out of her trip was that she quit smoking! It's been 3 weeks since she smoked one of those nasty things! Mom always smoked outside, & never around me, but she always smelled of those yucky things. Mom is happy, she tried to quit dozens of times but was never successful. Mom was sooooo sick, that she didn't even suffer withdrawal! Being sick gave mom a wake-up call...she struggled to breathe the last couple weeks & that scared the crap out of her! Also, not buying any cigarettes these last 3 weeks, she's had a bunch of extra money (to spend on ME of course! In the next couple days, I will resume birdie first aid blogs. I still have lots of first aid info that I want to share with all my birdie friends!

Oh, I wanted to share with all my dear friends. .my sissy Amanda's biopsy came back NORMAL!!!! We are sooooo relieved & so thankful to God that sissy doesn't have cancer! Mom was having a hard trying to pretend everything was fine so that sissy wouldn't be quite as scared! The ENT Doc seems to think it may caused by something viral. Sissy isn't going to bother pursuing it right now, but sometime in the future! First aid blogs will start back up again in the next day or 2, mom is trying to get things in order after being in the hospital. See u soon sweetie!

Sam lights the fuse & a loud, thunderous BOOOOM rattles the ship, the pier, the harbor......Ah, me, Sam slaps his wing to the side of his head, that's not the way to look nonchalant. Arrr.

Thank ye kindly just the same, Mr.Casey! Sam throws up his wings & shakes his head. So much fer leavin' on a quiet note. Sheeesh!

Aye-aye, Mr. Casey! Yerself & good Mr. Sky is so noted in me log. Ye bein' a rigger is good news! I'm delighted that ye are comin' along this year! Excuse me fer soundin' rather nasty about seein' the Queen, nothin' birdsonal, but a pirate bein' around monarchy usually ends with a pirate dancin' the hemp'n jig. Thank ye, but...NO! I know some eager Guard Birds who'd love to use my capture as a means to a promotion. Although, I always contributes generously to the Castle's treasure house! Ye know what they say, "No good deed goes unpunished." Arrrgghh.... Until time, I'll see ye & good Sky later. Capt. SamIAm

  Hi sweetheart!
Sorry I haven't been around in a week, mom has been really sick! She has a bad case of bronchitis! The one positive thing that's come out of it is that mom quit smoking! She hasn't smoked in 5 days, & has had NO withdrawal at all! Mom only smoked outside, NEVER around my little birdie lungs! Mom is still waiting for the chest x-ray results. She's a bit nervous, coz she's feeling worse instead of better!
I'm so happy that u will be with me in the castle all month, it will be AWESOME! I will see u in the morning sweetie! I've been packing all day! Today is my 18th Hatchday, but we will celebrate it tomorrow!

AWWWWWE!!!!! Momma Deb is soooooo AWESOME!!!! PLEASE give her a big giant hug from me!!! It was such a big surprise when I flew onto ur page & saw our awesome pic! I wish I had more time to spend with u, my campaign blogs take up most of my time! I was stopping by now to thank sweet Momma Deb for my current campaign pic! Also, to let her know, for the next few days (maybe a week) I will cover poisoning & toxicity, & would like her to please make me a new pic. I was thinking maybe a poinsettia, or other houseplant, maybe a chocolate bar, pic of a Teflon fry pan, etc & a red circle with diagonal line thru it, or any other pic that ur momma thinks would work to show not to use/eat. Thank u sooooo much Momma Deb, you are THE BEST!!!

  Hi sweetheart!
DAY 17
How are u sweetie? Today, we will cover blood in droppings & difficulty breathing.
One of the most common reasons for blood in the droppings is heavy metal toxicosis (we will cover this later), especially from lead & zinc. This toxicosis can cause blood in urine. If u notice this, seek vet care immediately. Blood may also be seen in droppings due to intestinal or cloacal infections, cloacal growths, or with difficulty passing eggs. Dark tarry droppings may indicate bleeding higher up in the small intestine. Seek vet care.
Anytime an animal is having difficulty breathing, it must always be considered life-threatening. If in respiratory distress, a bird's condition can rapidly deteriorate. Check the nostrils for blockage. If external blockage is observed, such as caused by mucus, wipe with a damp cloth. Look for any other blockage such as seeds or dirt. The operculum, a small part of the bird's anatomy inside the nostril could be mistaken for a foreign body, so have ur vet examine & remove any suspected blockage. Wheezing rapid breathing, open-mouthed breathing & nasal discharge are obvious signs of respiratory distress. Less obvious signs could include tail bobbing (pronounced up & down motion of the tail), frequent stretching of the neck, swelling around the eye, loss of voice & sometimes a "clicking-like" sound when breathing. Shortness of breath can also be caused by illness. In that case, the bird should. Be seen promptly by ur vet.
Keep the bird warm, keep the environment calm & relaxed & consider covering the cage to help reduce ur bird's stress level. Also, turning on a vaporizer near the cage for short periods of time or placing ur caged bird (or a stand for a large bird) in a "steamy" bathroom may help ease labored breathing. Call ur vet's office & ask to be seen immediately. Panting or open-mouth breathing could be caused by overheating due to fright, exercise, or environmental temperature. Overheated birds can develop heatstroke (we will cover this). In these cases, the bird may also hold its wings outstretched from his body, pant heavily, & collapse. Allow the bird to remain quiet in a cooler location. Mist the bird with cool water & have bird stand on a cool wet towel. Do not cool the bird too quickly. Contact ur vet to determine if further treatment is necessary.
Tomorrow, we will cover burns.
I would like to thank you for all the support you have given me with my campaign. I am truly blessed to have such caring & wonderful friends!

Please give sweet Momma Deb a big hug for the new pic! That pic made me shudder! I've never broken a feather that bled, but one time about 12-15 yrs ago, I fell off my perch & jammed my tail feathers! Boy, did I let out a squawk! I broke 4 tail feathers & not one drop of blood! It took me about 3-4 hrs to pull out the shafts...JEEZ, did that hurt. Next day, mom took me to the vet to be checked out. The vet never trimmed my nails that short again! I love you sweetheart! I'll be back tomorrow for another visit!

  Hi sweetheart
How are u sweetie? We are praying that everybirdy makes it thru the upcoming storm(s). We will be having below zero temps & a few inches of snow, but nothing like our friends in the far north-eastern states!
Today's topic is: WHAT CONSTITUTES AN EMERGENCY? A medical emergency is a serious and/or life-threatening injury or disease that requires immediate care. In some cases such as bleeding, first aid at home may be the best 1st course of action. Here are some guidelines on when to call ur avian vet.
*doesn't stop bleeding
*blood in droppings or in regurgitated food
*extensive burns
*collapsed or can't maintain balance
*has been poisoned
*puncture wound or deep cut
*cannot breathe
*straining to pass droppings or an egg
*lost her/his appetite
*an eye injury
*swallowed a foreign object
*low body temp
*mutilating his/her skin
*loose droppings
*develops a sudden swelling on body
*is excessively thirsty
*seems to have itchy skin
Bird owners are frequently unsure if a problem is truly an emergency. The best thing to do is to follow ur instincts & use good common sense. If there is any doubt in your mind regarding the severity of ur bird's condition, it's best to treat it as an emergency.
Tomorrow's topic will be triage (first aid priorities). See u tomorrow sweetie!
Love & a vote
How are u doing sweetheart? We pray that the good Lord will grant ur sweet momma peace & serenity to make it thru this difficult time. We wish we could wrap our arms (and wings) around ur sweet momma to comfort her. Ur family will be in our thoughts & prayers.
All our love
Tia & mom Sandy

  Hi my darling Casey!
How are u sweetie? I'm excited to begin my campaign on birdie first aid! First, I would like to give a big THANK YOU to Momma Deb, my darling Casey's mom, for making all the awesome campaign pics for me! I couldn't have done it without her!
I will start with a basic first aid kit, which is helpful to have if an emergency occurs. Mom keeps mine in a 19 at storage container w/ lid.
*IMPORTANT PHONE #s-ur vet, emergency clinic & poison control ctr.
*PAPER & PEN to make notes on bird's condition.
*TOWELS for catching & restraining ur bird
*STYPTIC POWDER/STICK (beak & nails only) or CORNSTARCH (can be used on skin)
*NEEDLE-NOSED PLIERS-to pull broken blood feathers
*PEROXIDE or other disinfectant solution
*EYE IRRIGATION-such as saline or contact wetting solution
*BASIC BANDAGE MATERIAL-such as gauze square & rolls, MASKING TAPE-does NOT stick to feathers
*SYRINGES to irrigate wounds or feed sick birds
*COTTON SWABS to apply meds & clean wounds
*BETADINE SOAP-which is anti-bacterial, for foot injuries
*HEAT PACK to keep bird warm during transport; wrap pack in towel - DO NOT apply directly to bird, burns could result.
Tomorrow we will discuss what constitutes an emergency & triage/first aid priorities.
See u tomorrow sweetie!

All I want for Christmas is YOU
I don't want a lot for Christmas
There's just one thing I need
I don't care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you.

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
You baby

I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow
I'm just gonna keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay awake to
Hear those magic reindeer click
'Cause I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Baby all I want for Christmas is you

All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children's
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me the one I really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me

Oh, I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Oh I just want him for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Baby all I want for Christmas is

All I want for Christmas is you baby

  Hi Casey,
mum just put up some more Christmassy themed pics. That's the tree she's going to take to the market tomorrow. It's full of mini pals & little Santa hats. Looks real cute.
The car's all packed up with all her stuff & boy is it full. Skin sis wants to come & check out the market & wants a lift home with mum....good luck with that, it'll be a very tight squeeze, lol!
Mum also changed my profile pic, since Halloween is well & truly over, hope you had a fun one. Thanks to everybirdie who send us a Halloween e-card. It's this time of year again here in OZ, so she put up my surfing pic. She's having wonderful swims every day & loving it.
The weather has been behaving pretty good this week, but it's getting very hot again tomorrow.
The fires have all been contained, but we won't hold our breath on that, b/c new ones can come anytime.
Have a great w/e my friend,
v4u & a big hug,
Jivu ♥

  Hi King Casey
Spot Le'Blaze-tiel for BOTM!
This campaign is dedicated to Ms. Chirps, my fister who flew to the Rainbow Bridge Monday. She loved to make things with her own wings and was very talented at it.
I'd like to thank each and every bird who came over with condolances and flowers and wing hugs and lots of comfort for myself and mama Rea! You cannot imagine what that showing of love and prayers meant to us!
In my Campaign, I will be showing you how to make some beautiful, simple decorations for your Christmas trees and mantels. Chirps and I always loved a homespun look and we hope you all will make some beautiful ornaments, garlands and other decorations for the holiday!

Here's a basic list you will need for most of the projects(most can be found in the dollar stores!)
You will need:
A spool of monofilament fiber(fishing line)
Many colors of craft paper, including black and white.
Some white bird sage glue(like Elmers)
A sharp needle for sewing and/or hole punching.
Differant colored ribbons(differant sizes, too)
A good imagination!
Some glitter(keep it neat Cori, Boo Boo, and Little Angel!)
Some kid proof scissors!
We will do 2 to 3 projects each week! I will show you the patterns and you can get your moms and pops to help you with cutting things out!
Remember, safety, first, last, and always!
I hope you will enjoy our campaign!
