  Hi, Marigold
Nothing much new with us either. Not cold though. We've had low 60s for awhile but too many days of the bad air. Still need rain. Southern CA got some but none here. We think the wild birds here might think it spring already but we could still get cold.

Have a great day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Marigold
This morning was a freezing cold morning but at least we got to see the sunshine, the highs for the day were 37 and the lows will be 10.The snow was still on the ground when Mom got us all up and cleaned our cages, gave us all our warm bean mix of pastene/egg/cheese/corn and peas mix,Mario got his usual blueberry yogurt/millet/pellet and medicine mix and while we were chowing down our breakfast,Mom collected the trash and recyclables and got it all in the car. Then she took off to Nana's and then re loaded the trash and recyclables in Nana's car along with Nana's trash and recyclables and they went to the dump, then from there Mom took Nana to Town Hall to pay her RE Taxes and from there they went to Walgreen's so Nana could use her raincheck on Kleenex's she needed. Then they went back to Nana's house and Mom called Comcast to see why her(Nana's) one show in the afternoon was not in English.Mom had tried to use the remote to change the language but she couldn't get the arrow to come down to the English part of it so she was put on hold for about 15 minutes until she got a real person after having to push this button and that button several times, and the lady was of no help and told Mom she could send a technician down and Mom said no way!So she fooled around with the remote and skin bro came over and he did something to get the arrow to come down to the English choice so in the meantime Nana's program had ended so now she has to wait til Monday to see if the program is in English again. After that Mom dremmeled my cousin Trixie II's nails. Then Nana made them all some lunch of Tuna, salad and toast and then Nana served Key Lime Cake and rum raisin ice cream for dessert. They had some eggnog coffee and visited for a while longer then it was starting to get dark so Mom got ready to go home. When she got home she cleaned our cages and gave us our snack as Dad had just got home from work also and then after she put the things she got away she went and found a tv dinner for dad for dinner tonight as she was too tired to want to cook anything.Mom is so happy to be home and not have to go out til next week and we're so happy that she will be home to spend time with us all day tomorrow!
Our weather has been really cold wet and snowy but its good that it never was more than a coating most everywhere around here and no shoveling involved so far!Mom is not complaining about that, she can take the cold, you don't have to stand out side for hours shoveling that!Oh how we all here are so waiting on the Spring to get here and fast! But you are so right,we'll be waiting for ever!
Wishing you a greyt day and I'm sending you all my love along with warm birdie hugs and soft beakie kisses and a vote for you too!Loving you always and forever,Dixie

  Hi Marigold
Hope your New Year's day was a fun one. Ours sure was! Mom had a bunch of people over, and we all love to show off for guests. As promised, here are some pics of the flower show at Phipps. I kept all the snowpeople pics on my page, they were all made of epiphytes, or air plants! There are also some on Falco's page and Willie's page. On Falco's page, there are also 2 shots of the new purse mom's daughter gave her, and the portrait that Lena painted of mom.
This morning at the center mom cleaned the raccoons and ground hogs and bats again. The good news is that one of the other volunteers came in to help her feed the bats, otherwise she would probably still be there!
I hope today brings you lots of good cuddles and scritches! Hugs, Peppino

  Hi, Marigold
Happy Second day of the New Year. None here stayed up until midnight but 2015 arrived without a hitch. There were many checkpoints to catch impaired drivers and know many offered the free rides so no reason to drive.

Continues coldish for us but at least no wind to make it seem colder and less chance of power outages or trees coming down as happened a couple of days ago.

Have a great day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Marigold
It's almost over, and it's hard to believe! This month went really fast, and there's still more to see. Thanks for your support, I can't wait to share today and tomorrow with you.
Today we're visiting back in Oakland, the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Music Hall. My first 4 pics are the art museum, a piece of art, the grand staircase, the welcome center and sculpture court outdoors, and the Hall of Architecture, where the presepio and trees are set up each year. The Art and Natural history museum overlap territory, as the Halls of Sculpture and Architecture are beyond the entry to Dinosaur Hall.
The next 4 pics are the Music Hall. It's a gem of a hall, in the same building as the art and natural history museums as well as the library. The first view is from the stage to the seats, and the second is from the seats to the stage. The next 2 pics show the foyer, which is made of imported marble, and gilded metalwork.
It's a glorious place to hold graduations as well as concerts.
I'll be back tomorrow with the natural history museum and a stop off at a place that's near where we live, but a little out from the city. Hope you are having a great day. Hugs, Peppino

We had a wonderful Christmas. Lots of food and family. Gonna have another dinner tonight for the eggstended family and just share a good meal. Love to see the lights on the tree. So festive. The parronts will take it down after tonight.

Our mom loves to watch Christmas movies, old and new. Don't think she saw the Great Christmas Light Fight though.

Coldish here too, but at least yesterday mom didn't have to scrape any ice off the windshield like she had the previous few days.

Have a great day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

We woke up to another bright sunny morning cold with the temperatures of 41 right now and our highs for the day will be 44 with our lows to be 28.Mom got us all cleaned and fed and Mario had a good morning taking his meds and not getting sick,he ate just a little of his pellets and hopefully he'll start feeling better again.Around 9:00am the tow company came and towed dad's car to the repair shop so hopefully by the end of the day we'll hear something about what the problem may be and what it will take to get it fixed so Mom can have her car back again!Mom cleaned and scrubbed the upstairs bathroom and beat all the area rugs out and hung them outside to get the cold crisp air then she vacuumed the upstairs and is going to start on the floors down stairs.
We all had such a nice quiet Christmas and I got to come with Mom and Dad to Nana's house for Christmas dinner and all the festivities!Lots of greyt raviolis and Mom brought Claymation Christmas with her and we all got to see that.Mom loves that Great Christmas Light Fight also!So many wonderful colors and designs with those lights!

  Hi Marigold
Thanks for the votes every day! I really love hearing from you, too.
Before we leave the Strip, we have to visit St. Stanislaus Church, it's right in the center of things, there on Smallman Street! The first 2 pics in my gallery show one of the oldest churches in Pittsburgh, St. Stanislaus in the Strip. I thought while we were seeing churches, we could go back to Oakland and see St. Paul's Cathedral, the next 2 pics in my gallery. This is the biggest Catholic church in the area. The last 2 new pics are of East Liberty Presbyterian Church, built by the Mellons in the 1800s. The people in Pittsburgh at the time called it Mellon's Fire Escape! Maybe it was, who knows? Today at that church, there are organ recitals every week, and Taize music some evenings. If you don't know the Taize stuff, you should google it and listen to a piece or 2, it's beautiful singing.
So, tomorrow we will go back to Oakland to see other things, including Heinz Chapel.
You may have noted Heinz field, Heinz History museum, and now Heinz chapel; what's that all about? We'll talk more tomorrow! Hope you have a spectacular day. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi, Marigold
Think many dogs have trouble with stairs as it must be a bit tricky to learn how to negotiate with their four paws. Good that the family is able to get her outside for potty breaks and that she's fine on the flat ground. Even if doggie hearing were to go the doggie sense of smell would never let 'em down when food is offered.

Well, we got thru the entire day of rain that occurred on Thu. Many areas lost power and there was flooding and other issues, but we are fine. Yesterday saw a bit of sun and a bit more rain but nothing heavy.

Gotta work on our cards since there's less than two weeks left!

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Marigold
Thank you for your daily visits and votes!
Today we are visiting another area of Pittsburgh which used to be little known, but now is pretty much known to any tourist who comes here. It's the Strip District. No, people don't strip to go there, it's a strip along the Allegheny River very close to town. It used to be a large warehouse district where greengrocers, butchers, and other merchants went early in the day (think 3AM) to get fresh supplies for their stores. The public could also go there and shop. In mom's family, they went in the fall to get whole pigs for sausages and crates of grapes for wine. Over time, as more of the public went there to shop for goods, it became specialized into ethnic shopping areas. There were stores like the Pennsylvania Macaroni company, catering to Italians, Stamboolis, catering to near eastern groups, Greek and Asian markets, etc. Today, the strip has become more genteel, so to speak. There are no longer hucksters in the streets, and lots of the big warehouses are now art galleries, bars, dance clubs, or broken into groups of smaller shops, like the Pittsburgh Public Market.
The oldest stores, like PennMac (Mom's favorite), Wholey's Fish market, and a few others are still up and thriving, but smaller markets, like the biscotti company are doing well too. They have even started sidewalk cafes in the strip for the summer trade. It retains some of its old flavor, though, which makes it still a great place to walk and shop.
Have a wonderful day, don't forget to give out kissies for those scritches. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Marigold
This morning was a bright sunny morning after nearly a week of darkness and all that rain and some snow!It was freezing though and never went any higher than 41 degrees. The lows for tonight will be 29.Mom got us all up early and cleaned our cages and fed us our warm bean mix, collected the trash and loaded it in her car, then she warmed the car up while she got my carrier ready and put me in it and they took off for Nana's where both Nana and Mom went to the dump, then to the bank, then to True Value for Mom to get a drill bit for dad, then to Comcast to pay their bills, then to Christmas Tree Shop,Petco and then they walked over to see the Dollar Tree that the arsonist burned and it was awful, the floor was all burned off and everything was empty on the shelves and the door they busted to get in the place was all boarded up.Then Mom and Nana went to WalMart and Mom bought two 40 lb bags of wild bird seed, and a few other things and they met skin bro there,Mom was happy to see him as he lifted the heavy bags of bird seed for her and put them into the cart and then into the car. Then skin bro had to go to the Auto parts store and Mom and Nana went to Shaws and bought some things that were on sale and then after that they came back to Nana's to have another late lunch around 3:30pm.Skin bro met us at Nana's and they all had lunch together, then as it was starting to get really dark fast,Mom packed me up and headed for home.It was really dark by the time she got out of Nana's street and those of us who had to stay home were in the dark as our dad was working the Christmas Stroll in Osterville tonight so we had no snacks,no pellet refills in our dishes and no light on.We all really yelled at Mom for not coming home sooner. But as soon as Mom got the car unpacked she came into our room and cleaned our cages for the night, closed our curtains and gave us our snacks.Dad called Mom to make sure that she was home as he knows she hates to drive in the dark and now for a while Mom is helping us to catch up with our visits before our dad gets home!Other than that its been an uneventful day!
We are all so happy to hear that your sweet little dog is doing fine now, that is always such a scary thing to happen and its so funny to know that she's well enough to hear her food bowl and can walk well enough to get to it!LOL!We are all so relieved that they got all the cancer out and she is healing and on the mend! She will always be in our thoughts and prayers for complete healing!
Wishing you a greyt day and I'm sending you all my love along with warm birdie hugs and soft beakie kisses and a vote for you too!Loving you always and forever,Dixie

  Hi Marigold
Thanks for your daily votes, I love hearing from you each day and returning the favor.
Today we will look at the *PPG Aquarium. It's part of the zoo at Highland Park, but is newer. Mom was looking for pics of the neat sea dragons, but couldn't find any from PPG. Sea dragons are in the sea horse family, but are much more colorful, and they have a neat tank of them at the aquarium. There are mostly what you would expect there, fish, like sharks and things. They have piranhas, too. There is an outdoor part with PA freshwater fish in it, and the polar bears are there as well. They also have a breeding facility. So the aquarium is home to lots of marine and freshwater fish, jellyfish, a huge coral reef, and lots of other things that live underwater. One of mom's favorite parts is that you can walk underneath the polar bears' pool and if they are swimming, it looks really cool. They have a fisherman's village set up beneath the polar bear exhibit, with lots of artifacts, as well as lists of sustainable fish to eat, and those that are not sustainable. When you leave the aquarium, you can either head home or go to the children's zoo. Mom likes going through the whole place, though, so even though she's far too old to be a child, she heads for the children's zoo at the end of the aquarium.
Hope you are having a good day and that I'll see you again tomorrow. Hugs, Peppino

Jules smiles big at the lovely tiel. I hear from my fisters that you can do wonders with parsley. Heard something about some cookies. They sound pretty good to me.
Anyhow, Char didn't even know I'd been BOTD with all the computer trouble lately and other things so that's why I haven't been by. Silly woman, why'd she think all us birds were gone for a whole day? Well, most of us, Sophie kept her busy. But really....humans!
Char is really good to me. She even snuggles me if I bite her and her hair! Oh all that hair to snuggle into. She had to really dig to get me out last night. I got scared when she caught me to put me to bed and she just snuggled me and told me SHE was sorry for scaring me!! The best thing is NO GLOVES to catch me at all!! So different here and I even get along with Ipo. She doesn't like Oatie & Makana for some reason but she seems to like me. Char is worried I won't want to go to skin sis' to live with another tiel, and I might not. But it sure is nice being treated like a bird and being loved on. I never was before.
Oh dear, here's Ipo picking me up in the shuttle. I've got so many to visit. Thanks again for sharing my day at the castle.

Thanks for your vote, I appreciate each one.
Today we can visit the sports arenas of the city. Pittsburgh has 3 teams, the Pirates (whose mascot is a parrot), the Penguins (whose mascot is a penguin, of course), and the Steelers (whose mascot is creepy!). So, I'm showing 2 pics of the North Shore, where the Pirates play baseball in PNC Park and the Steelers play at Heinz Field. Pitt also plays football at Heinz Field. The hockey arena is my third pic, that's the new Consol Energy Center. Other events are held there as well, the circus, ice shows, the occasional basketball game, concerts, etc. Pittsburgh boasts some rabid sports fans, and there are lots of places in town where a person can buy Pirate, Penguin, or Steeler gear and other memorabilia.
I hope you are having a happy day and whatever team you root for in football wins today. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Marigold
Thanks so much for your support.
Today I want to go back to the higher education facilities in Pittsburgh, but just to the University of Pittsburgh.
The Cathedral of Learning, Pitt's main building on campus, is a special place. It's a skyscraper of a building, but the first 2 floors are what you want to see. If you are interested in Pittsburgh's ethnic heritage, they have Nationality rooms. We can go into who settled here in a later blog, but on these floors of the cathedral, each ethnic group has decorated a classroom with things that are particular to its culture. Mom took Italian classes in the Italian room, and it's gorgeous, with dark wood paneling, lots of cultural references to the artists, composers, poets, etc. that Italy has produced. Other rooms include those from Eastern Europe, the Philippine Islands, Vietnam, China, Japan, Western Europe, and the Caribbean. They have added Latin American rooms lately as well. It's truly spectacular this time of year, with all the Nationality Rooms decorated for Christmas. If you come to Pittsburgh for Christmas, this is a must see!
I hope you are having a great day. Hugs, Peppino

That is wonderful news about the old furball. Hopefully she is recovering from the tumor removal and live a few more years as many do live wayyyyy past 13.

Got rain here over the w/e. Rained Mon, Tue and yesterday too. Some areas had flooding but not near us. Not near a hillside so no risk of mudslide either. Know we've probably got our normal rain for the season now but need lots more to get out of the drought.

Thanks for your vote. Okay, I'm Peppino, the newest member of the flock. I've been with mom and the flock since September 2013, when I was just a baby. I picked mom out at a bird show, and wouldn't leave her alone, so she figured she might as well take me home, heehee. I think she really likes me, though. I'm very talkative, and have picked up several words and phrases in the past year, which I would be happy to share with you while mom is on the phone or trying to watch TV.
We don't have a theme as such this month, but I'll bring you some fun facts about Pittsburgh, share some pics with you (as soon as BC has things working again), and hopefully get your vote all month long. I return votes, as well. Hope you are having a good day and it looks like I'm off to a good start. Hugs, Peppino

  HI Marigold
Thank you for visiting me with such wonderful hatchday wishes:) I did have a great day with a new balsa toy and then tonight, millet! Mom thought she would be smart and make the toy last longer by putting it in a different area of my cage but I showed her:) Hope you have a good evening;)

hugs,

Poppy

  Hi Marigold
So, what special food did you get? I got to sample a lot of things, and mom's daughter made up a Peppino song just for me! I danced every time she sang it, too. I thought it was a pretty neat song. One of mom's amaryllis is in bloom, and gorgeous! Her Christmas cactus is also blooming but it's nearly done now. The paperwhites are in bloom in the kitchen and filling the house with their presence. Hope you had a wonderful day yesterday! Hugs, Peppino
