I went to meet Jesse and decided to take on the challenge of living with a bird that bites aggressively. He has improved 110% since I started teaching by positive re enforcement

`Ü´ Greetings & A Lovely Monday to You
King Jesse!

I do hope that your Saturday and Sunday were full of fun and productivity. I know in my case I had to relinquish Momma’s eggsclusive attention and assistance on my Campaign to be your December Bird of the Month to more pressing parrontal matters around our K Kritter Korral. (The portion of Sunday during which Momma was available to bring me to your page for a visit, the BirdChannel was not cooperating. You might say that their GPS was out of order! **TeeHee**)

You see, Momma and Daddy were informed that they could eggspect a visit from my Grandma from Idaho from later today, to last thru Thursday morning when they all gather at Daddy’s youngest brother’s home about an hour away from us for the first Family Celebration with everyone present since Momma and Daddy have known each other. Grandma was eager to be able to spend time here with Momma and Daddy, and all of us fids of course, before joining the rest of the family for a concurrent Celebration of Thanksgiving and her BirthDay on Thursday! Then she will remain with my Uncle and his family until she returns to her home in Idaho later in the week, while my other Uncle comes to pay us a visit over the long weekend.

So, all of this is to say that my visits may be a bit sporadic from now thru the end of the month, due to Grandma’s visit, the Holiday weekend with my Uncle visiting, and the upcoming Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game. I do apologize in advance for any visits I shall have to forego. But rest assured that I shall continue to do my utmost to bring you the maximum amount of FootBall information in the time we have left together.

And on that note, let us get straight to the information I’ve promised you next about the Offensive Squad on a FootBall team …

Let’s begin our eggsamination of the individual Positions on the Offensive Squad.

QuarterBack – The Player who usually receives the ball from the Center at the start of each play. He informs his TeamMates in the huddle of the play that will be run and then, after the Center snaps* the ball to him, either hands the ball to a Running Back or throws to a Receiver.

Center – The Player who hikes (or snaps) the ball to the QuarterBack at the start of each play. The term comes from the fact that this Player is flanked on either side by a Guard and a Tackle; he’s the “MiddleMan” (or Center) in a contingent of five Offensive LineMen or Blockers. He handles the ball on every play and also snaps the ball to the Punter and Holder.

Guard – There are two Guards on every play, and they line up on either side of the Offensive Center. The Guards protect the QuarterBack from an Inside Rusher; they block Defenders immediately across from them and also swing out, or pull**, and run toward either end [of the line] to block any Defender when the ball carrier runs wide°.

Tackle – Both Offensive and Defensive, on Offense they are Outside Blockers on the line of scrimmage°°.

Tight End – Serves as a BIG Receiver [Oh MY!] and also a Blocker. Unlike a Wide Receiver, this Player generally lines up beside the Offensive Tackle either to the right or to the left of the QuarterBack. (Also “Strong Side+”)

Wide Receiver – The Player who uses his speed and quickness to elude Defenders and catch the FootBall, but who isn’t primarily a Blocker. Wide Receivers are also known as “pass catchers” [but I-I-I would parrotsonally NOT disparage one so!]. Also called a WideOut.

Running Back – A Player who runs with the FootBall. Running Backs are also referred to as TailBacks and HalfBacks, depending on their exact responsibilities and alignment.

FullBack – A Player who lines up in the Offensive backfield++ and generally is responsible for blocking for the Running Back and pass-blocking to protect the QuarterBack. FullBacks also serve as short-yardage runners.

I would also like to call your attention to a display of several of the basic Offensive Formations which appear in the Gallery at the bottom of my page. (They also appear in my Profile Picture at the top of my page; but they are much clearer and contain eggsplanatory text in the photos in the Gallery.) I hope these are of use to you in recognizing some of what happens on the actual field of play the next time you watch a FootBall Game.

I am also including several definitions of terms used in the above Position Descriptions at the end of this note.

Have a Greyt Day! Perhaps enjoy watching The Jets play The Bills at 7:00 pm on CBS, or The Ravens play at The Saints at 8:30 pm on ESPN. Both times are EST. Remember, it is virtually illegal to watch a FootBall Game quietly. So do what we Avians are most well-known for doing … **S*Q*U*A*W*K** . **I*T** . **U*P** ! ! !

À la prochen frois, mon ami,
[Until next time, My Featheriend]
`Ü´ Ruby Francesca Beongia ♥

*snap—the action in which the ball in handed or hiked by the Center to the QuarterBack, to the Holder on a kick attempt, or to the Punter.
**pull—when a player leaves one area of the field, generally moving back and then over, to block in an area other than his normal position.
°run wide
°°line of scrimmage—the imaginary boundary between the two teams prior to the snap of the ball. The Offense’s and Defense’s scrimmage lines are defined by the tip of the ball closest to them and stretch from sideline to sideline. The Defensive Team usually lines up less than a yard away from where the ball is placed.
+strong side—the side of the Offensive formation where the Tight End aligns. With a right-handed QuarterBack, the strong side is usually to his right side.
++backfield—the group of Offensive Players (the Running Backs and QuarterBack) who line up behind the line of scrimmage (vs the Offensive LineMen and/or Receivers who line up at the line of scrimmage).

`Ü´ Greetings & OH! MY!! GOODness!!!
King Jesse!

Does anybirdy ELSE realize how much there is to KNOW about FootBall??? Why … I had no idea how much I DIDN’T KNOW until Momma consented to help me learn for the sake of my Quest for the Bird of the Month Crown, and sharing her passion for The Game so that I might understand all of the HoopLa that I hear coming from the area of the television every time she watches a Game!!

HEAVENS to BETSY … and BACK!!!

Well! As promised, we shall begin our investigation into the individual responsibilities of the Players in each Position today. But I fear it will never fit into one day’s note. So we shall simply spread it out over several days so that you, My Featheriend, can take it all in and not fall asleep before you learn what you need to know!

You may recall from our earlier information that the NFL limits active, uniformed Players to 45 per Team on Game Day.

Each FootBall Team has 11 Players per side: 11 on Offense and 11 on Defense. Teams are allowed to play with fewer than 11 Players (and for the LIFE of me I can’t IMAGINE WHY they would WANT to???), but they are penalized for having more than 11 Players on the Field during play. Rarely, a few eggsceptionally talented Players may play both Offense and Defense in the NFL. (And I do believe that we have a few of those eggsceptionally talented Birdie FootBall Players on the Indians and Pilgrims Team Rosters!)

A typical NFL Game Day roster includes three QuarterBacks, a Punter, a PlaceKicker, a Kick Return Specialist, eight Offensive LineMen, four Running Backs, five Receivers, two Tight Ends, seven Defensive LineMen, seven LineBackers, and six Defensive Backs. (The NONSTARTING Players – that is, those who are not among the 22 or so Players who are listed in the Starting LineUp – are considered Reserves, and many of them are Specialists.)

In the NFL, an additional Player can be in uniform, but he must be a QuarterBack and enter the Game only after the other QuarterBacks have been removed from the Game because of injury. When this eggstra QuarterBack, or 46th Player, enters the Game, the other QuarterBacks are deemed ineligible and cannot return to that Game even if they are healthy.

With our very own 3rd Annual Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game approaching in a little over a week, and Players needing and wanting to know how to practice to yield the most effective results, when we next meet I shall delve into the individual Positions on the Offensive Squad.

Before I depart this evening, though, I do wish to thank you, once again, for your wonderful continuing support of my efforts to be your Christmas Queen on BirdChannel. I am truly beginning to feel the eggscitement of the prospect of having my dream realized. You and your featheriendship are appreciated more than you know.

A bientot, mon ami,

  `Ü´ Greetings & Good Evening
King Jesse!

I am flitting by this evening for a very short visit to share with you a little bit of the great fun I had this Tuesday past presenting a program with Momma for The Sylvan Seniors at Mt Sylvan United Methodist Church in Durham, where Momma and Daddy attend. (They do not attend the s-e-n-i-o-r-s functions. **TeeHee** They attend CHURCH there.)

Momma and I were given half an hour to address the group, to share what Life with a Parrot is like, for most of them had never had an eggsperience with a companion parrot; particularly not one of my size! When we have a program like that, Momma usually starts out by eggsplaining how she and Daddy came to start a flock like the K Kritter Korral, and how it grew; and then, through sheer human curiosity, we have a wonderful conversation about what all is entailed in living with a parrot (or parrotS). Of course, I-I-I contribute greatly to program content; this time including a stroll back and forth in front of the front row at one point, for emphasis of the subject matter at hand. (At just the right point in time I climbed down off my play stand and let Momma know I had something to add. **GRiN**)

When our time for the presentation was over, the group had some lunch together. I was given my fill of some lovely white grapes by a number of brave ladies and gentlemen, and then several of them wanted to have their picture taken with me. In my Gallery at the bottom of my page you can see just a couple of the lovely folks I visited with parrotsonally.

I shall return with those promised eggsplanations of the positions of the players on a FootBall team when next I visit.

  Hi King Jesse
Well, Mom had her endoscopy yesterday, and since it was a just a follow-up to the surgery she had in August to make sure all was well in her tummy she wasn't worried. Not only did it go well, but her ulcer is finally gone too! So no more acid reflux, and nor more ulcer. She's a happy camper....except she's still not allowed to take Excedrin. Boohoo!

Now today is cloudy and cool here, so I will not be getting outside at all. Mom is wearing sweats and a fleece and her warm bedroom slippers. And my heater is staying on all day. At least I have plenty of Mom time, so I can't really complain.

  SEASON AND PLAYOFF DEVELOPMENT
From 1920 to 1934, the NFL did not have a set number of games for teams to play, instead setting a minimum. The league mandated a 12-game regular season for each team beginning in 1935, later shortening this to 11 games in 1937 and 10 games in 1943, mainly due to World War II. After the war ended, the number of games returned to 11 games in1946 and to 12 in 1947. The NFL went to a 14-game schedule in 1961, which it retained until switching to the current 16-game schedule in 1978. Proposals to increase the regular season to 18 games have been made, but have been rejected in labor negotiations with the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA).

The NFL operated in a two-conference system from 1933 to 1966, where the champions of each conference would meet in the NFL Championship Game. If two teams tied for the conference lead, they would meet in a one-game playoff to determine the conference champion. In 1967, the NFL expanded from 15 teams to 16 teams. Instead of just evening out the conferences by adding the expansion New Orleans Saints to the seven-member Western Conference, the NFL realigned the conferences and split each into two four-team divisions. The four conference champions would meet in the NFL playoffs, a two-round playoff. The NFL also operated the Playoff Bowl (officially the Bert Bell Benefit Bowl) from 1960 to 1969. Effectively a third-place game, pitting the two conference runners-up against each other, the league considers Playoff Bowls to have been exhibitions rather than playoff games. The league discontinued the Playoff Bowl in 1970 due to its perception as a game for losers.

Following the addition of the former AFL teams into the NFL in 1970, the NFL split into two conferences with three divisions each. The expanded league, now with twenty-six teams, would also feature an expanded eight-team eight-game playoff, the participants being the three division champions from each conference as well as one 'wild card' team (the team with the best win percentage) from each conference. In 1978, the league added a second wild card team from each conference, bringing the total number of playoff teams to ten, and a further two wild card teams were added in 1990 to bring the total to twelve. When the NFL expanded to 32 teams in 2002, the league realigned, changing the division structure from three divisions in each conference to four divisions in each conference. As each division champion gets a playoff bid, the number of wild card teams from each conference dropped from three to two.

Next time, I shall be pleased to present The Players who will be participating in the upcoming 3rd Annual Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game, as well as the CheerLeading Squads! Be sure to tune in to find out which birdies will be playing in which positions and on which squad. In the coming days we shall investigate the distinctions between the positions!

  `Ü´ Greetings & Happy Saturday
King Jesse!

It would seem that most of North America is in the middle of an early onset of Winter, wouldn’t it? There are those FootBall Fans who would call this REAL FootBall Weather! And in view of the “chill” in the air, I am bringing mugs of Hot Cocoa (with marshmallows, if you like) for us to enjoy during my visit today. But this is what I would like to inquire of you: Is this weather inspiring everybirdy to prepare for the upcoming 3rd ANNUAL MILONGA THANKSGIVING BOWL GAME??? **Tee Hee**

Today I am deviating a bit from the previous path of information about the NFL in order to address two questions that were presented by several birdies regarding my last note.

First, a number of you asked if the entire building at 345 Park Avenue in New York City was occupied by the offices of the NFL. Well … no. For an inside look at the Ted Moudis Associates designed NFL headquarters, home to the employees that help power our favorite sport, I direct your attention to the Gallery at the bottom of my Profile Page. The modern, multi-level office space is located, as I mentioned in my last note, at 345 Park Avenue in Lower Manhattan, and was designed by TMA with the goal to “carry its strong brand identity throughout the design.” The office includes a League Room for the owners of our favorite franchises to hold meetings, employee cafeteria complete with kitchen along with an employee store, fitness center for staying in shape with lockers and showers, and a whole lot more. The 4 main floors of the office building were designed to represent the “Four Pillars” of the National Football League, which include The Game, The Teams, The Fans, and of course The Innovation. The 5th floor of the building houses the Officiating Command Center, and the 6th floor includes multiple outdoor terrace areas.

Other current tenants include The Blackstone Group, Consulate General of Ireland, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Capital Trust, Deutsche Bank, KPMG, and Piper Jaffray.

Secondly, several birdies were curious about who the three “pre-NFL/AFL-merger” teams were. As nearly as I can discern, those teams were the AAFC Teams the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers, and the original version of the Baltimore Colts.

Since its inception in 1920, the NFL fended off several rival leagues. Before 1960, the most important rival was the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), which began play in 1946. The AAFC differed from the NFL in several ways, and the AAFC's perennial champions—the Cleveland Browns—were considered to be one of the best teams in professional football during that time. However, due to the AAFC's poor financial situation, the league disbanded after the 1949 season.

I do hope I am supplying you with interesting and accurate information that satisfies your curiosity about American FootBall, its history and its structure. I am finding the details of my research quite entertaining. Are you?

I am very happy to report than Momma’s hand is much improved! While there is still a bit of swelling and light bruising on the back of her hand, she is now able to fully use her fingers with only minimal hindrance and no discomfort. Thank you so very much for your thoughts and prayers, good wishes and concern. (I believe she and Daddy have plans to purchase a new NylaBone for Mr Tyson; one that he cannot fit through his crate to deposit on the floor and cause more accidents!!!)

When I continue with the background information of American FootBall, we shall be moving along to Season and Playoff Development. I am looking forward to sharing what I have learned in that area with you.

  `Ü´ Greetings & Welcome to Week 11 …
of the 2014 NFL Season! The week “kicked off” (**TeeHee** … if you will pardon the pun) last night with the Buffalo Bills traveling to play the Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium. The Dolphins won handily, 22-9. I do hope that you were able to enjoy some Stitch’s Spicy PopCorn with the Game!

It was so lovely to receive your visit, King Jesse, and I thank you so very much for your vote that raises the tally toward my Quest for the BOTM Crown. And it is, once again, with apologies that I am a day late returning the kindness. For those of you who did not see the note on my page, Momma had a bit of an accident which prohibited her being able to assist me in visiting you. It involved a little mishap with a dog toy on which Momma slipped and, in the attempt to catch herself and prevent falling, she injured her hand on the door frame. It is very sore yet today, so I will not be able to leave any parrotsonal comments on my visit as I prefer doing, but will be resolved to using the copy and paste method of delivery for the time being, until Momma’s had is less sore. (It seems that she can click on the left side of the mouse without too much discomfort. The right button is a bit painful. And typing is one key at a time; not conducive to individualizing each note.) Be that as it may, she is determined to keep in step with my FootBall information for you.

Now, let’s pick up where we left off, completing the Founding and History of the NFL before we move on to Season and Playoff Development next.

UNTIL THE 1960s, the NFL was the dominant professional football league and faced little competition. Rival leagues included three separate American Football Leagues and the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), none of which lasted for more than four seasons (although several teams from the AAFC joined the NFL after the league dissolved in 1949). A new professional league, the fourth American Football League (AFL), began play in 1960. The upstart AFL began to challenge the established NFL in popularity, gaining lucrative television contracts and engaging in a bidding war with the NFL for free agents and draft picks. The two leagues announced a merger on June 8, 1966, to take full effect in 1970. In the meantime, the leagues would hold a common draft and championship game. The game, the Super Bowl, was held four times before the merger, with the NFL winning Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II, and the AFL winning Super Bowl III and Super Bowl IV. After the league merged, it was split into two conferences: the National Football Conference (NFC), consisting of most of the pre-merger NFL teams, and the American Football Conference (AFC), consisting of all of the AFL teams as well as three pre-merger NFL teams.

TODAY, THE NFL is considered the most popular sports league in North America; much of its growth is attributed to former Commissioner Pete Rozelle, who led the league from 1960 to 1989. Overall annual attendance increased from three million at the beginning of his tenure to seventeen million by the end of his tenure, and 400 million viewers watched 1989's Super Bowl XXIII. The NFL established NFL Properties in 1963. The league's licensing wing, NFL Properties earns the league billions of dollars annually; Rozelle's tenure also marked the creation of NFL Charities and a national partnership with United Way. Paul Tagliabue was elected as commissioner to succeed Rozelle; his seventeen-year tenure, which ended in 2006, was marked by large increases in television contracts and the addition of four expansion teams, as well as the introduction of league initiatives to increase the number of minorities in league and team management roles. The league's current Commissioner, Roger Goodell, has focused on reducing the number of illegal hits and making the sport safer, mainly through fining or suspending players who break rules. These actions are one of many the NFL is taking to reduce concussions and improve player safety.

I hope having a more complete image of the beginnings of American FootBall will be of some help in adding to your enjoyment of the Sport.

  `Ü´ Greetings King Jesse!
I do hope you were able to locate and read the posting Momma and I put together for Veteran’s Day yesterday. I apologize for both of us that we did not visit anybirdy yesterday. Momma had made an appointment for both me and Caique frother Sammy to have nail and beak trims with Dr Burkett, the BirdVet [and if you look him up on the internet, that is how you will find him listed **TeeHee**] in the afternoon, after she finished up with all of her other responsibilities, and during the time when we would normally have begun our visits. The greater complication arose when I became very agitated and overwhelmed during my beak trim. Dr Burkett even stopped his work before he finished all that he wanted to do because he told Momma it was not worth stressing me out further. Momma was VERY concerned because I was breathing so very hard, as was Dr Burkett.

At any rate, once we got home, and after Momma stayed with me for a long time to make sure that I was completely restored to normal, she herself was so stressed out that she was unable to settle herself down so that we could go to work delivering my note to everybirdy. Daddy and I both insisted that she just take the evening to calm herself and regain her composure before trying to go to sleep at bedtime so that she COULD get a good night’s rest, knowing full well that she would not be able to focus enough to be efficient while working on the computer and would therefore likely be up all night (being stubborn as she is) to complete the task.

What was so important that Momma would have scheduled an appointment with Dr Burkett for something as basic as a nail and beak trim right in the middle of the heightened activity of my Quest for the Crown? Well, I have a Public Appearance scheduled with the Seniors Group at Momma and Daddy’s church this coming Monday, and Momma wanted to be sure that my nails and beak would not be off-putting when they wanted to hold me. (And everybirdy ALWAYS wants to hold me! **GiGGle**) Besides, I-I-I always insist on looking my best when I have an appearance in front of the public.

It is so kind of you, King Jesse, to come to call on this humble subject of Your Royal Highness. I do so appreciate your visits and your votes. But please, Your Highness, try to refrain from any damaging behaviors to the humans around you. After all, it is they upon whom we depend for our care daily. **GRiN**

I shall look forward to visiting again tomorrow when we shall complete our Founding and History of American FootBall, and then move on to Season and Playoff Development the next time.

  `Ü´ Greetings, King Jesse ...
and Welcome to “Monday Morning QuarterBack”, the show that brings you interviews, highlights, and FuN and informative tidbits of information on everything from The History of FootBall to each play and position on a Team. Actually, Monday will not be the only day we broadcast (nor will it always be seen in the morning), but it’s a catchy title for the program, is it not? **GiGGle** [OoPs! That wasn’t very professional. Well, moving right along … ] On today’s program, we pick up where left off last week in our discussion of the beginnings of American FootBall.

FOUNDING AND HISTORY
On August 20, 1920, a meeting was held by representatives of the Akron Pros, Canton Bulldogs, Cleveland Indians, and Dayton Triangles at the Jordan and Hupmobile auto showroom in Canton, Ohio. This meeting resulted in the formation of the American Professional Football Conference (APFC), a group who, according to the Canton Evening Repository, intended to "raise the standard of professional football in every way possible, to eliminate bidding for players between rival clubs and to secure cooperation in the formation of schedules". Another meeting held on September 17, 1920 resulted in the renaming of the league to the American Professional Football Association (APFA). The league hired Jim Thorpe as their first president, and consisted of 14 teams. Only two of these teams, the Decatur Staleys (now the Chicago Bears) and the Chicago Cardinals (now the Arizona Cardinals), remain.

The Akron Pros won the first

APFA (NFL) Championship. [Y-a-a-a-Y Akron! Momma’s HomeTown!!!]
Although the league did not maintain official standings for their 1920 inaugural season and teams played schedules that included non-league opponents, the APFA awarded the Akron Pros the championship by virtue of their 8–0–3 (8 wins, 0 losses, and 3 ties) record. The following season resulted in the Chicago Staleys controversially winning the title* over the Buffalo All-Americans. In 1922, the APFA changed its name to the National Football League (NFL).

* The 1921 NFL Championship controversy, known among Buffalo sports historians and fans as the Staley Swindle, is a dispute in which the Buffalo All-Americans unintentionally surrendered the 1921 APFA Championship title to the Chicago. The controversy began at the conclusion of the 1921 season, when the All-Americans finished the season with the best record in the American Professional Football Association. However, after losing what the All-Americans owner had intended to be an exhibition game to the Staleys on December 4, 1921, the All-Americans lost their title to Chicago on a tiebreaker.

And that’s where we will have to leave you for today’s program, FootBall Fans. Be sure to tune in again for our next program where we pick up the conversation on the Founding and History of American FootBall.

  `Ü´ Greetings & Happy Weekend
King Jesse!

And how are you faring on this lovely Saturday evening, My Featheriend? In my last post, I alluded to the familiar saying, “Man [and LadyBirds and their mommas] plan, and God laughs!” Well, Father God is having a BELLY LAUGH today on The K Kritter Korral!!!

The first thing this morning, on a day that Momma was absolutely certain would be a day in which we could easily visit each of my featheriends at a leisurely pace, she needed to phone our Kittys’ Veterinary Hospital once a-g-a-i-n and make an appointment for a DIFFERENT KITTY from last week’s visit to be seen immediately. This morning it was Mr Larry Kitty who was having difficulties and throwing up multiple times; and it concerned Momma greatly. Momma and Daddy took him to see Dr Ken at the kitties’ new Triangle Clinic in Durham and once again Dr Ken gave our kitty an injection to make him feel better. It does seem to be working, and Momma is more at ease about the situation now. But the whole turn of events has, once a-g-a-i-n, set us behind schedule.

Thank you so much for your invitation to come to the Castle for some Sweet Tea and Pastries. I shall do my utmost to make it a point to visit. In the meantime, I shall be pleased to continue to deliver still more information about America's Favorite Sport for your consumption. I am pleased to be sharing on a subject that is of interest to you.

I am also very happy for your continued support of my succession to the Throne. You are quite a generous GentleBird. I look forward to your visits each day.

And now, without further ado, I shall move immediately to Part II of “The History of the NFL”. Yesterday we talked a bit about how the League was born, and how it reached its current structure. Today we shall take a brief look at how the Teams are regulated and Championship Records from previous Seasons.

  EACH TEAM IS ALLOWED
to have up to 53 players during the regular season, but only 46 can be active (eligible to play) on game days. Teams are given exclusive rights to sign free agents* that have three or fewer seasons in the league, but free agents that have been in the league at least four years can sign with any team of their choosing. Each team is subject to a salary cap**.

The champions of the most recent season, the 2013 season, are the Seattle Seahawks, who defeated the Denver Broncos by a score of 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII. The team with the most championships is the Green Bay Packers, who have won 13 championships. The team that currently has the second most Super Bowl championships is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have won six.

In an earnest effort to keep my notes to a minimum, I shall bring this portion of our investigation into FootBall to a close for today. I hope you have enjoyed learning a little bit of the foundation of America’s BIGGEST Sport. I most certainly have enjoyed bringing it to you.

Have a lovely day. A bientot, mon ami [See you soon, My Featheriend]

PS: Momma says that we will most likely be taking a break from visiting my Featheriends on Sunday. Rest assured, however, that just as you are so kind and loyal as to stop by and at least cast your vote to assist in my Quest for the Crown, I shall also return the kindness and drop off a vote for you. It is my pleasure to do so!

DEFINITIONS:

*free agent – A player who is eligible to sign with any club or franchise, i.e. not under contract to any specific team. The term is also used in reference to a player who is under contract at present, but who is allowed to solicit contract offers from other teams. In some circumstances, the free agent's options are limited by league rules. (The term came into wider use after the league stopped using a "reserve clause", which provided a repetitive option for a club to renew the contract for one or more years but did not allow the player to terminate it.)

**salary cap – An agreement or rule that places a limit on the amount of money that a team can spend on player salaries. The limit exists as a per-player limit or a total limit for the team's roster, or both. (The league implemented salary caps both as a method of keeping overall costs down and to ensure parity between teams so wealthy teams cannot entrench dominance by signing many more top players than their rivals.)

Greetings & Good Friday Morning, King Jesse.

Once again, what Momma and I had planned for today’s note has been foiled by circumstance! However, THIS time, it is a HAPPY circumstance. Let me eggsplain. The first thing I had intended to do was to eggstend my parrotsonal invitation to you to hurry over to The Milonga Page (#165848) to sign up to be either a Member of one of the Teams to play in this year’s 3rd Annual Birdie FootBall Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl, or to participate as a CheerLeader for this year’s Game. WELL!!! As of Mr Kiddo’s visit Wednesday evening, I was informed that there had already been 31 Birdies sign up to be Players, and 10 to be CheerLeaders! So, at this point in time, with the deadline to sign up having been midnight YESTERDAY (Thursday, November 6) what there is to do now is to BE SURE to mark the date on your calendar, November 29th, to attend this wonderful Annual Event and root for your favorite Team to win; either the Pilgrims or the Indians. As my frother, (Ö> Jake would be prone to say here, “Be there, or be SQUARE!!!” **TeeHee**

Thank you so very much, King Jesse, for your visits and your votes. It is so comforting to know that I can count on seeing your handsome face on my page each day. I truly appreciate all your support. And I agree that your fister Little Angel did a marvelous job of adorning my Vote Button for easy sighting and casting of votes for me. She is quite creative! I am totally enjoying all the eggstra effort that you and your flockily members are putting forth to make my Campaign a successful one.

  Now, moving on …
to today’s planned History of the National FootBall League, this may serve to give us all a clearer picture of our American FootBall Heritage.

The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league that constitutes one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America. It is composed of 32 teams divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The highest professional level of the sport in the world, the NFL runs a 17-week regular season from the week after Labor Day to the week after Christmas, with each team playing sixteen games and having one bye week* each season. Out of the league's 32 teams, six (four division winners and two wild-card teams**) from each conference compete in the NFL playoffs, a single-elimination tournament culminating in the Super Bowl, played between the champions of the NFC and AFC. The champions of the Super Bowl are awarded the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Various other awards exist to recognize individual players and coaches. Most games are played on Sunday afternoons; some games are also played on Mondays and Thursdays during the regular season. There are games on Saturdays during the first two playoff weekends. Sometimes, there are also Saturday games during the last few weeks of the regular season.

The NFL was formed on August 20, 1920, as the American Professional Football Conference; the league changed its name to the American Professional Football Association (APFA) on September 17, 1920, and changed its name to the National Football League on June 24, 1922, after spending the 1920 and 1921 seasons as the APFA. Following the NFL's merger with the All-America Football Conference at the end of 1949, the league adopted the name National-American Football League, but reverted back to National Football League three months later. In 1966, the NFL agreed to merge with the rival American Football League (AFL), effective 1970; THE FIRST SUPER BOWL WAS HELD at the end of that same season IN JANUARY 1967. Today, the NFL has the highest average attendance (67,591) of any professional sports league in the world and is the most popular sports league in the United States. The Super Bowl is among the biggest club sporting events in the world and individual Super Bowl games account for many of the most-watched television programs in American history. At the corporate level, the NFL is a nonprofit 501(c)(6) association. The NFL's executive officer is the commissioner, who has broad authority in governing the league.

At this point, I shall conclude my History Lesson for the day. I shall pick up with the balance of the lesson with my next note.

Have a lovely day. À la prochen frois, mon ami [Until next time, My Featheriend]

`Ü´ *Ruby perches with King Jesse.
Her head slightly lowered in humility.*

I am so sorry, My Dear Featheriend, that I did not make it here yesterday for a visit! Tuesday was not a day of plans fulfilled at The K Kritter Korral. I have no eggscuse. But I would very much like to offer my humble eggsplanation, if you will allow it.

Here Momma and I sat down and composed my note for yesterday (which you will find posted below) by way of request for your patience and understanding for a somewhat diminished Campaign for my Quest for the Bird of the Month Crown … and then we were not even able to fulfill THAT!!! I do, most humbly, apologize. **BLuSh**

You see, by the time Momma and I had everything set and ready for me to strike out on The Campaign Trail (as it were), anything and everything that could possibly interfere … DID. Daddy is still at home from work with his illness, making his best effort to recover before returning to work so that he does not have a relapse, and he needed Momma to take care of some eggstra tasks that he would normally have handled himself. And then there was our oldest furry feline, Mr Taggart, who DID have a relapse in his vomiting that Momma and Daddy had him treated for last Saturday. This will require another trip to his Dr Kitty Vet, probably today. Momma was very concerned and felt that she needed to keep a close eye on him after several episodes of vomiting and therefore had her attentions diverted from our project here on the BirdChannel.

I am beginning to feel very much like the broken record, having to ask once again for your forgiveness for my neglect. I do hope you will understand. And I absolutely appreciate your kind indulgence of our flockily’s circumstances.

SO … All that being said, Momma and I are attempting to get an early start on my visits today in order to be sure that, no matter what the interruptions may be, we will be able to see everybirdy today!

King Jesse, please accept my gratitude for yours and your flock's continued visits and votes on Monday and Tuesday, in support of my Quest for the Bird of the Month Crown. I am so very thankful for loyal Featheriends like you! I look forward to being able to return your kindness on a more regular basis, God willing (and Momma doesn't get stolen away from me again!)

And now, here we go! Wish us luck!!

`Ü´ Your Featheriend,
Ruby Francesca Begonia

`Ü´ Greetings & Happy Tuesday [before Threesday]!
Hello King Jesse!

I know you must be anxiously awaiting the “Kick Off” of the FootBall themed blogs that I have promised to carry us through this month on my Quest for the Bird of the Month Crown. And Momma and I have been embroiled in deep research to “Get this party started!”. However, it is already becoming painfully (and I make that statement quite literally) obvious that composing a new blog and creating a new picture for each day of the month is far more than Momma is going to be available to help me with. As you can already tell, we in The K Kritter Korral are hard put to understand the concept of a “short” blog. It is a very time consuming process for me to dictate to Momma all that I wish to communicate to each of you every day, not to mention an equal amount of time to create a picture to compliment my blog; and even more time consuming to return the kind visits you make to my page to cast your wonderful votes to support me, all of which is above and beyond my fondest dreams.

But I have convinced Momma that it is far too much to fit into every single day in addition to being available to take care of all of us, our home, our daddy, and all of her other responsibilities. So she and I have reached a compromise. We will continue to work diligently to bring you the planned Information and FuN we fully intended from the very beginning of launching my Campaign, however that type of blog will be produced only about every other day. On the off days, such as today, she and I will give it all of our available time and energy to simply return your kind visit with a Thank YOU Vote, and [hopefully] a short blog to return your lovely comments from the day before. I do hope that I am not disappointing you too very much. But I have the feeling that you understand our situation completely, and that you will not be upset, but will be willing to continue your daily support. And I will, as you already know, be MORE than thankful for your efforts!

And with that lengthy eggsplanation, I shall bid you Adieu for today, and tell you that with tomorrow, we shall begin to eggsplore the first days of The National FootBall League.

Toutes alors, mon ami [Until then, My Featheriend] ...`Ü´ Ruby ♥

`Ü´ Greetings & Happy FootBall Sunday to You!!!
(That is, it WAS Sunday when Momma and I started answering my notes for the day. **TeeHee** But with Daddy still not feeling well, much work fell to Momma yesterday and we got a late start with my visiting, she became weary, and I insisted that she go to bed! I do apologize for not returning your kind note promptly. And I appreciate your visit and vote more than I can say. We shall make every effort to regain our good standing with my correspondence today. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding. I love you for it. ♥

I do hope that you have been able to enjoy watching a game or two today. Which Team is your favorite? Momma and I just LIVE to watch Peyton Manning and The Denver Broncos each week during the FootBall Season! (Parrotsonally, I think Momma has a big *CRuSh* on Mr Peyton. **GiGGle**)

Of course, we Fids of The K Kritter Korral are actually much more interested in what Sunday afternoon FootBall games mean for US …

I’m sure you’ve heard at least one of us mention our flockily’s favorite, Delicious Stitch’s Spicy PopCorn once or twice in the past. I thought today I would share the recipe for this bird safe treat with you and your flock so that we might ALL be able to enjoy it during the rest of this 2014 FootBall Season.

To give you just a little background on where the recipe comes from, Miss Stitch was one of the first birdies to befriend my Rainbow Bridge Fister, (~> Rosalie Hale Bopp, nearly 7-1/2 years ago. (Miss Stitch is on page #15308, if you would like to stop by later and say “Thank you!” for this wonderful concoction.) At any rate, Miss Rose and Miss Stitch were in conversation one day, and Miss Stitch happened to mention that she had enjoyed some of her momma’s Special Recipe PopCorn while watching a FootBall game. Well, OF COURSE, Miss Rosalie jumped right on the opportunity to inquire about this lovely sounding treat, and Miss Stitch was very happy to oblige with the recipe. After Momma and Daddy searched for a PopCorn popper that could be dedicated to the recipe (you will understand why after you actually read the recipe!), they made a batch and shared it with Miss Rose and Mr TidBit, the only other parrot in The K Kritter Korral at the time. From there, the size of the batch of PopCorn that Momma and Daddy prepare has blossomed as the size of The K Kritter Korral has grown. Currently, it takes THREE PopCorn poppers to accommodate The Flock AND Momma and Daddy for a game! **GiGGle**

And now, without further ado, I give you the recipe; which I hope you will enjoy at least as much as my Flock and I do!

Come visit me, `Ü´ Ruby Coaches the Offense.

  STITCH’S SPICY POPCORN
(In Her Own Words)

“There are a few different ways to make it but first off I have my own popcorn pot. Mommy has a couple of them; one for me and one for the family. Mine is seasoned just right. (Once you put the oil with pepper in the pan the next thing you cook is going to be spicy too! That is why I have my own pot!) She puts pepper flakes or diced peppers in the pot with some oil. [Momma and Daddy just use pepper flakes here at The Korral.] You can use "popcorn" oil or you can use regular corn oil. Mom likes to use corn oil as there is a bunch of yucky stuff in the "popcorn" oil. You know ... additives and weird stuff like that. Mommy does not like me to have that. So she just uses the corn oil and puts the pepper right in it and lets it "sizzle". Add a sprinkle of cayenne pepper. Sometimes she puts in a dash of chili pepper too. Then she puts in the popcorn. [Daddy always puts just a single kernel of popcorn in at first, and waits until it pops before adding the rest of the popcorn. That way he knows that the oil is hot enough.] She sprinkles some Parmesan cheese over the top after it’s popped. But no salt...not good for us.

‘YUMMY!! Let me know how you like it! Aloha! Love Stitch ~:)”

[When Momma and Daddy make the PopCorn for us, Daddy dumps the popped corn from the popper into a paper grocery bag while Momma holds it open for him. Momma shakes the parmesan cheese onto it in the bag, folds the top of the bag down, and shakes it up to make sure the topping gets on all the pieces. Then she gives us each some from the bag. THEN she can add the salt for her and Daddy’s share.]

And there you have it, My Featheriend! The recipe for the Treat that we in The K Kritter Korral love the best!! I do hope that you will be able to convince your parronts to make you some; perhaps for Monday Night FootBall this week!? I hope you enjoy it at least half as much as we all do.

Please accept my most sincere apologies. I do hope that your reign will be filled with Fun and Laughter as you are able to relax and reap the benefits of all yours and your lovely momma's had work. You certainly deserve it!

And may I also say "Thank you!" one more time for the lovely encouragement you have given all of your new subjects to support me in my Quest for the Throne for December. You honor me, Sir.

Well! This day has certainly turned out to be MUCH DIFFERENT than either Momma or I intended!!!

First thing this morning, it became clear to Momma that our oldest kitty, Mr Taggart, absolutely MUST go see a Kitty Doctor. Momma had not, to this point since our move to North Carolina, secured the services of a new Veterinarian for the Furry Four-Leggers. She had, however, gotten a recommendation from our BirdVet, Dr Burkett, for an animal hospital where he first trained as a vet that has a reputation for being one of the best in the entire Durham area. Thankfully, they are open on Saturdays for half a day and she was able to get Mr Taggart an appointment. And before you all begin to worry unnecessarily, I can happily tell you that he is vastly improved since his visit! (I know you would be concerned, so please let your mind be put at rest for his wellbeing.)

Then after Momma and Daddy brought Mr Taggart home, Daddy felt that it was time for HIM to see a Veterinarian for Humans for an eggstremely sore throat and a cough that kept us ALL up last night! I am also able to happily tell you that he was diagnosed with a simple sinus infection and prescribed antibiotics and cough medicine, and is even now resting and in bed for the night!

SO … After all that unscheduled activity today, Momma and I were put way behind schedule in what we had planned for today’s blog, and we decided to continue the process of reacquainting everybirdy with my flockily. But before I proceed with the introductions, I do want to share with you all that what we will be focusing on this month is … (Are you ready for it?) … FOOT~BALL!!! Yes, this GRITS GirlBird is going to join her momma in her total enthusiasm for the sport. We will be trying to give you information on some of the NFL Teams, and perhaps an interview or two with some FootBall Celebrities in the process. **GRiN** And stay tuned for possibly a contest or two; and, as is the custom every November, the Milonga theme will be The Annual Birdie FootBall Championship Bowl!!!

But, back to the plan for this evening’s blog. Please direct your attention to the new Profile Picture on my page. This is the most recent Portrait of The K Kritter Korral Fids. There will likely be a number of birdies in this

picture with whom most of you are not familiar. Momma and I would like to share everybirdy in the flock, including those who do not have pages on BirdChannel because it is difficult for Momma to even keep up with communicating for the ones who DO have pages, let alone a flock of 16 birds!

Hopefully, the first thing you will notice is a circle-like formation of all of the Large Macaws in the flock. I am on the left of the circle at the 9:00 position. Moving clockwise we have Indy (Indiana Henry Jones, III, a male Blue-and-Gold Macaw, Jake (Charles Riley Jake, aka, CR Jake, whom most of you already know … UGH!), Riley (Riley Ann Orion, a female Harlequin Macaw), and Gabby (Gabriella Angelina Katrina, a female Blue-and-Gold Macaw). Moving a little to your right is a second circular collage. Beginning with the Congo African Grey at the 8:00 position, he is Sidney D’Beak B’Diddle; moving counter clockwise we have Billie (Billie Jo Bobbie, aka Wilhelmina Josephine Roberta, a female Lilac-Crowned Amazon), Leah (Leah Danielle Sharon, a female Hawk-Headed Parrot), Prissy (Priscilla Ivory Rose, a female White-Bellied Caique), TidBit ( … Juuuust TidBit, a male Normal Green-Cheeked Conure), Sammie (Samson Strong Wing, a male White-Bellied Caique), Corky (Corkus Turquoisius Maximus, a male Turquoise Green-Cheeked Conure), and finally Dilly (John Dillinger DoodleBird, a male Illiger’s Mini-Macaw). In the upper left corner of the picture are two of our Budgies, Shiraz & Joon (male & female); in the lower right corner of the picture is the other pair of Budgies, Clara & Willie. The little birdie by himself, in the “v” between the two circular images, is Pip (Pip Squeak Squirtsky, a male Dilute Blue Parrotlet). The Parakeets also have three names each, but in the interest of space, Momma and I are letting those pass. **GiGGle**

And there you have it, Featheriend; the entire birdie population of the K Kritter Korral! There also abide 6 Kitties and a Boxer Dog in the flockily. But we’ll save those for another time. Suffice it to say, Momma and I have our wings full managing The Korral on a daily basis. It’s a good thing that Daddy is always willing to help!

I see I have rambled on, AGAIN! I do apologize. But I wanted everybirdy to finally meet the entire flock. I hope you have enjoyed getting to know everybirdy as much as Momma and I have enjoyed introducing them.

A bientot, mon ami [See you soon, My Featheriend] … `Ü´ Ruby
