I was born in January, just after Mom started to search for The Perfect Parrot. Mom searched and searched and finally found my grandmother 500 miles away. Something told her to adopt me, a Pineapple Green Cheek Conure. She drove all the way to pick me up and drove all the way home that night so I would have the most stress free travel. We loved each other from the first minute. I slept under Mom's hair for 300 miles, then slept some more in my Pak-O-Bird. When I woke up, I was in my new home. We have been happy every moment since..

Hi! My name is Miss Pookie Parrot

I am a Green-Cheeked Conure from Northampton, MA.

Miss Pookie Parrot is about as cute as a name gets.

7 years old   F

Green-Cheeked Conure

Walnuts, blueberries and Granny Smith apples. Walnuts rule. Accept no substitutes.

On my jute boing; in one of my two Happy Huts (plush green or fleece yellow); hanging upside down from any perch; at the corner of my office cage right next to Mom's computer.

I despise cloth towels.

She takes me in the shower with her, after she sets the spray to "mist" and it's never too hot or too cold. She tells me I'm the best, smartest, sweetest, most beautiful parrot ever. She's right.

I sleep in! Miss Pookie Parrot definitely does not get up with the chickens..

  Hi Miss Pookie and Bodhi!
Caymus flying by to say hello. As much as your mommy will miss you, I do hope she enjoys her time down here in Florida. The weather has been perfect and my mom has had me out on the patio bunches to bask in the sun (I'm still not tan...same green feathers) and take spray baths. When mom sprays me I shake my tail, spread my wings and get SOAKED! It's great! Tell mommy that is IS now Stone Crab season and Moore's seafood restaurant out on Longboat Key serves big fresh claws. They have an outside patio on the water and makes for a nice evening. From the Ritz, she will also see one of mom's "sister" hotels...the Hyatt, right across the marina. You tell mom to be careful with those fireworks...and once they're set off it's not like those hotel folks won't enjoy them too. Although I don't find the noise they make (I'm still louder) I don't like to see them up in the sky. Predators! Birdy kisses all around!

Come visit me, Blanche, Caymus & Peachy (2004-2010) - Thank you for BOTD!.

  Hi Miss Pookie
It's great to hear from you guys! I also don't like it when dad goes on vacation--he's supposed to stay with ME, not relax on a tropical vacation! I have a vet visit tomorrow to get my beak done. All those hours of sharpening it really paid off! V4U & Birdie Hugs -JoJo-

  Hello from Caymus
Hello my wonderful friends! It's so great to hear from you...many times I have thought of Miss Pookie and Bodhi and have always meant to blog. Mom says she's been busy but I think she's still a tad upset that her "delete" key from her laptop is missing. Of course I don't know ANYTHING about it but Peachy has had this guilty look on her beak for quite some time. I mean, I know she never comes out of her cage, and I have been known to poke around on the 'puter, but do you really think I look like the kind of Conure that would snatch a key off a perfectly good keyboard? Ok, don't answer that. Also have some sad news that mom will not be going to the October bird show. That is the same weekend of her college's homecoming and mom's on the alumni committee so she will be in Miami that weekend. My big sis Karina will be watching me. She knows how much I love wheat bread and always gives me a piece as a treat. In exchange, I let her scratch my neck. hehehe Good trade, don't you think? Well that's about it for now...it's near bedtime and I can already see that beddy-bye time look in mom's eyes. Sending huge birdy hugs for you both and your mom...and of course a vote, too!

Come visit me, Blanche, Caymus & Peachy (2004-2010) - Thank you for BOTD!.

  Bird Show Tips
Have mom get you the "Bamboozler" toy. They have it for sale on-line at Fosters & Smith, but your mom can get a good deal at the bird show. The website to see the vendor list is http://www.ebsoa.org/august2008.shtml. Booths A25-A29 is the Playful Parrot where your mom can get this toy. I believe if you like to chew, or swing, or chew AND swing, this is the "go to" toy. Booth A32-A33 is Parrot Island Trading Co. where they have ziplock bags full of yummy treats like dried fruits, veggies, wasabi peas (yum), yogurt drops, and sesame covered peanuts for $5-$7 a bag and these bags go a long way. Mom's favorite breeder is not on the current vendor list but as daddy points out, that shouldn't matter anyway. Mom is quite sure she will be going to this show as well and would love to meet up with your mommy and Aunt for a few minutes to say hello. Don't worry Miss Pookie, I will have my mom direct yours to all the best tables to ensure you and Bodhi get lots and lots of toys. It's only fair, after all.

Hi Miss Pookie! Yep, mom showed me Bodhi's picture in the magazine. I hope he doesn't take offense but I tried to chew up the page. Mom wouldn't let me, though...she gave me the subscription card instead. Mom always goes to those bird shows; there are 4-5 of them a year and she drags daddy down there (even though daddy secretly loves going but won't admit it) to stock up on pellets, treats, toys...and of course talk to all the birdies. There is one coming up August 10th and then again in October. Luckily the show is only about 20 minutes from our home (by car, not "as the parrot flys"). October will be a beautiful time to be in Sarasota. Knock on wood that there are no bad hurricanes this year. I've never been through one but mom has...still won't move her away from the Sunshine State though, and hopes it won't keep your mom away from her trip either (although I bet you wouldn't be too disappointed if she had to stay home). She could always come back for the Florida Winefest & Auction, which takes place in April. Knowing her tastes, she would enjoy it. Leaving you with some big hugs for now...talk to you soon!

Mom will definitely take a look at the Birdtalk magazine. So you would not think an AG would be a nice addition eh?But I am sure mommy would make sure that it would be a good buddy or budette to you. You know from what mom hears, I might be the exception re a bath and loving it. But it is so important for our species...we are quite dusty. Maybe I like it because mom makes it fun and then she gives me all the attention without that big mouthed macaw trying to hog it. Just kidding sort of, him and I have a good friendship going. I am teaching him to talk and you ought to hear us go back and forth. Did you read about the party on his page?Would love to have you come...mom has notes of the birdies coming and is not sure if the both of you might be on there as having accepted. It is a hatchday party for Max's girl Alex. And please give mommy and maybe an AG a chance should she decide on one. We are quite unique and I promise for all AG's that he/she would not make mom love the both of you any less. Pecking a v4u and many scritches, chat soon I hope,

Hello Miss Pookie! Wow, your mom and Bodhi's birthday is exactly one day after my Uncle Mike's birthday. No wonder your flock is so special! I know how it feels to watch mom eating and drinking things that we can't. The last time that happened I turned my back on her and only made up when she offered me some sesame toast. (grin) Well we put up a pic of my new cage, and one of me about to chomp on a popcorn treat. Mom still has to get a shot of me out on the back patio. We're calling that cage my "waterfront property." hihihi Hope you're having a feather-tastic day...leaving big hugs and a vote!

Hello my dear friends! It was wonderful to hear all about your mom's adventures in brick-laying. Due to our tropical location and backyard plant assortment of hibiscus, bird-of-paradise (the plant, not the bird), palm trees, bromeliads and assorted orchids hanging in oak trees, mom has chosen bricks ranging from a sandy cream color to a caramel color. She has described her planned pattern as "organized choas"...somthing that looks random yet flows well. (Whatever you say, mom) Ultimately she would love to use ceramic tile in her pattern as well but that would require using concrete and there is already a small concrete slab out there. To join the two would require drilling holes in the sides of the existing foundation and using steel rods to hold the two slabs together so the pads would not shift against each other and crack. (I probably know more about patios now than any parrot out there...well, besides you and Bodhi) Instead she is sanding down an old wooden table and will create a ceramic tile inlay of blues and greens. The table will be used on her new patio for extra seating at daddy's famous Bar-B-Q's...and of course to set those mojitos on! hehehe Meanwhile, this frees up space in the screened patio and that's where my old cage has gone, right next to mom's adirondack chair. Mom says all we need now is a beach house and we'll be set! So do you have any big plans for the 4th? Hope yours is fun and safe...leaving big hugs for ya!

  Happy July from Caymus
Hello Miss Pookie & Bodhi! Please excuse the “form” email but it is the only way I can catch everybirdy up on what’s been shakin’ without sounding like a broken record. Anyway, we’ve all been very busy with yet more projects around the house. Mom has permanently put my cage out on the back patio and (drum roll please) bought me a nice new (bigger..yippie!) cage for the living room. She got kind of tired of rolling me in and out of the house and my water dish splashing all over the place. I started a few conversations with the neighborhood Mockingbirds, but the Blue Jays and Cardinals are still scared of me. The Pelicans fly too high for me to talk to, and I HATE, HATE, HATE the stupid vultures that sometimes land of the neighbor’s roof. I’ll scream my head off if I see one of these buggers! I’m getting along well with my skin-sis while she’s on summer break. Some days she goes to camp but on days she is home I make sure she doesn’t sleep too late and get her up around 9-9:30am, which is pretty nice of me considering I’m a Conure and I love a good morning yell! On the other wing, she does give me a treat for letting her sleep in a bit and I’ve helped her clean out her room, which is her project for the summer. And if you can believe, she came up with that project all on her own without any instruction from our parronts! Let’s see…what else? Oh yes, the back patio…well you know the one I’m on is screened in. Well mom and dad decided they want to lay a brick patio on the outside of the screened room, too. So this weekend mom started tearing up the grass and she’s got about half of it done. Next she has to level and tramp down the existing dirt, then spread paver sand on top of that, and then finally she will have to put down each paver, one at a time, leveling it out and fitting in the next one. Daddy wanted to hire someone to do it, but mom’s got her frozen lemonade and her big umbrella all ready to go and told daddy she wants to design her own patio and if it takes all summer, that’s ok. Daddy just has to supply the materials and mom will do all the work. And I’ll supervise! hehehe Dad’s bettin’ she cries “uncle,” but if I know mom, she’ll complete the project to perfection. I’ll let you know how that turns out. Oh, and last thing…I heard a firecracker go off a few nights ago. Scared the bejesus out of me and I took cover in my happy-hut. Last night, however, it was no big deal. Sometimes the humans in my flock are louder than an entire fireworks display. (I’m sure my parronts would say the same about me.) So mom’s happy that I’m taking it all in stride and she won’t have to worry about me having a nervous break-down on the 4th of July. On that note, I’d like to leave you with my joke of the day…Q: “What would you get if you crossed the American national bird with Snoopy? A: A bald beagle! Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!!!!! Leaving big hugs and a vote…squawk at ya later!

We're still laughing from the picture we envisioned of your mom driving in the jeep! hehehe But I bet she was smiling all the way! Congrats to your Aunt, by the way...we love to hear when our friends have good news to share. Yes, the Catalina would be quite loud, but I'm PERSISTANT. I've recenlty been imitating a sound similar to that of a smoke alarm...you know, that really high pitched "beeeeeeeeep" that will make human ears ring. I think mom likes it when I do it in her ear because she seems much more awake afterwards! Daddy took mom to get some noise-cancelling headphones for when he mows the lawn and I go on a noisy spree. So there were mom and dad, standing in Best Buy, dad testing out the headphones at the display, and mom's going "squawk! squawk!" in the middle of the store to see if dad can hear her. The funny thing was, no one turned and looked, as if it was perfectly normal for some woman to be squawking like a parrot! Maybe they assumed this heat got the best of her...hehehe! Enjoy the day my friends. Leaving hugs and a vote! P.S. Of course mom's already Googling Pisces of Chatham...(she thinks it's neat because she just happens to be a Pisces)
