I became interested in parrot in december 2011 and soon dived into research for the perfect species for me. I then began stalking the bird section of PJ's Pets at the mall and saw him. It wasn't a good time to get him because I still lived in dorm but I soon fell in love with him and his quiet and gentle personalilty (not to mention he was one of the ideal species I decided on). I put a down-payment on him and made arrangements with me girlfriend to have him stay at her house while I finished school and looked for an apartment. Now all 3 of us live together :).. Awards

Hi! My name is Gimli

I am a Blue-Headed Pionus from edmonton, AB.

5 years old   M

Blue-Headed Pionus

He loves all food very very much, but he also likes dried chili peppers, whole black peppers, millet, dried fruit, and carrots.

On top of his dometop cage, it the corner of the kitchen floor, and under the couch.

bathing, the vaccum, music that isn't upbeat enough, being upside-down, being picked up

That she provides food

he loves food. He digs his face into it like a little piggy. Hes learned how to wolf-whistle and makes cheeping noised that sound like a baby bird (hes learned that from the wild birds outside). Right now, he's growing in his flight feathers and is trying to fly, but so far he can only jump up and flap his wings. It's aborable.

  Pionus birds
I love my pionus. She is about 7 years old now. I adopted her from a rescue and have since helped to make toys etc for the birds that are there. Mine "loves" a shower. Try turning your shower to just slightly cool and let him stand on you hand/arm to shower. Pionus love to shower (like a rainforest) and will chirp and reach up to drink the water. We finally made her a PVC frame for the shower, wrapped vet tape around the horizontal pipe and she stands on her own to shower. When they are real into it they tend to bend over and hold on with their beaks so if she is on your arm it's a bit freaky. I wish there were more books etc on the pionus because I'd love to read more. They are super great little birds! Be sure to offer plenty of fresh greens, collard greens, mustard greens and a few edimine (soy beans) which can be bought frozzen in their shell or pods. Mine loves to hold them and peel them down to get to the bean inside. She also loves almonds in their shell which is great for her to nibble and keep her beak in check. I've found if I take a nut cracker and just give it a little crack to get it started she can do the rest herself. Another great beak chewing item I found is to buy a pack of shims from the hardware store, they are cheap and she loves to chew them apart (Make sure they are NOT cedar wood) cedar is very bad for birds so find some that are pine.
Hope I didn't go on to long, I really enjoy having Periwinkle in my home, enjoy your Gimli

Come visit me, Periwinkle.
