Ooh, that's a lot of snow! It's a good thing you're inside, you'd be buried! A Nibbles popsicle!
We live in the Yucatan of Mexico so it's the tropics. The average temp is 86 all year. In the winter it can dip down to the 60s but that would be at night and not often. They have never seen snow here and the Mayans don't even have a word for it. Mom keeps telling them that some year it will snow and they think that is so funny. Mom would love to see them see snow for the first time! We live in a small fishing village at the beach. Tonite it'll be in the 70s as we have a cold front coming through. My parronts are so funny - it hits 70s and they are in flannel pjs, down comforter on the bed and all the windows shut. And my mom is originally from upstate NY!!!!
What are you doing for New Year's? Are you going to the milonga on Sat. nite? Hope to see you there!

TWO play gyms? Wow, you guys made out like bandits! And a kabob too, huh? I love those kabob things but I like to take them apart after I eat the goodies! hehehe!
And today is Boxing Day - the day to chew up boxes! Do you like to chew? Our lovebirds are chewers, especially newspapers, magazines, etc.

You sure are one pretty finch. Well, the big bird is in the oven, the pies are made, the bread and rolls are done, the stuffing is waiting to be warmed, the sweet potatoes are ready for the oven, and the cranberry sauce is in the fridge. Hello, every birdie, Sky here with your Sunday blog. With Thanksgiving just days away for those of you in the US, I think it's fitting that I ask every birdie to think of one thing they are thankful for. I will be writing a special blog for Thanksgiving on , "The Thankfulness of BIRDS", so think of that one special thing, and let me know before Tuesday.
Today, we visit The Oasis Sanctuary( OS), home to 600 plus birds of all species, located 50 miles east of Tuscon, Arizona in Benson, a small quiet rural town. There official opening on this location was in 1997. There, on 71 acres sits the very first non-profit rescue established in the USA. Founded by Sybil Erden, The O.S. is a permanent, life care facility, home to birds deemed unadoptable for various reason. O.S. works as a referral to other bona fid adoption programs across the country for birds that can be rehomed.
The birds, mostly parrots, Cockatoos, Macaws and other psittacine species are housed in large, natural free-flights. The Macaws share a 100'X40'X17.5' flight. Other smaller, 40'X40'X13.5' flights house African Greys, Amazons etc. There is a 1300sq. foot building that serves as home to "special needs birds."
The Oasis Sanctuary continues on the donations and support of private as well as some corporate sponsors. There is an amazing " sponsor-a bird" program in place where you can donate to the care and feeding of any bird from a Budgie to Macaw, large Cockatoo and everything between. As well as yearly memberships.
The O.S. works hand-in-hand with other bird rescues, to educate the public in correct, responsible bird ownership & care." The important message being that birds are NOT domesticated pets like dogs or cats but wildlife held in captivity. There is a need for respect, and an understanding that no matter how many years a bird has lived in captivity it is still in possession of its wild traits and instincts. You can share your life with them but never own them."
The Oasis Sanctuary is open for tours by appointment only. It is an amazing place, well worth the drive to see free flighted parrots interacting with one another.
