Spotlight on Caring -Taz part 7
Sky here with our last blogs with the Proctor flock. I must say I have dearly enjoyed learning all about this well known B.C. flock. SKY; Please continue, Mom Gail; SUZIQ was the next member of the flock. She came from the same bird store as Scooby. We used to visit there fairly often and buy food there as well. Suzi was a sweet bird and used to live with the owner's wife but then after nine months she decided that she did want to sell her so Burt bought her for me to try and ease the pain of losing Xena, I was not ready for a grey and didn’t know if I ever would be. Suzi still is a beautiful and sweet girl who loves her me and only me. Suzi does like to lay eggs a lot. I have had her checked out to make sure her calcium levels were okay and they were, I also make sure that she gets enough calcium in her diet. Ekkies are also very sensitive with regards to their diets. They don't do well with a lot of additives in their food or with pellets; they need a nice fresh food diet. They also have a tendency to toe tapping and wing flapping usually due to an excess of additives in their diet or stress can also be the cause. Suzi did start to toe tap and wing flap years ago and I had to play detective to try and figure out what was causing this as she was not on any pellets or other type of bird food and there didn't seem to be any cause for stress either. After a lot of research I decided my only recourse was to do an elimination diet for her. I took away all food except peas to start with until she quit and if she didn't start up again after a few days I added another vegetable which was carrots...all well there but when I added corn well Suzi started up again, mom took it away and after three days she quit again. The only food to cause an issue was corn so no more corn for her ever. If she gets a little bit of corn cause she gets the wrong bowl the toe tapping and wing flapping come right back. No corn and all is well.
CHLOE is next to join, I was still missing having a grey around the house so Burt looked through the papers and found Chloe in a neighboring state. I talked to Chloe's mom through e-mails and we met them to pick her up and take her home. Chloe has been and is a joy to have around; she decided that she liked her dad best even though she was a Mother's Day present for mom. She is a good talker and has lots of sounds, some that she makes up. She loves to sing.
SIMON came to join us the following year. I always wanted a B&G macaw and so back to the papers for Burt. He spotted Simon in a neighboring state as well. We took the drive to see him. Spotlight on Caring Taz part 7b
As soon as Simon saw us he let out a really loud and friendly Hi, and as soon as we walked in we knew he was coming home with us no matter what. He has been a challenge for sure and I got bitten quite a few times in the beginning. He does not like men at all, in the 12 years he has been here that has not changed. He is a momma's boy and he has anger issues but I have figured him out pretty good now so I rarely get bitten unless I cause it by not paying attention. He is a very sweet bird in his own right. He loves being held and loved; I call him my cockatoo in a blue suit. My heart melts when he looks up at me and says "I love you", just like a guy. CHICA flew into our lives when her previous owner decided that he couldn't care for her anymore so he gave her to me. When Chica first came to live her she didn't like to be touched very much. She used to eat absolutely everything in sight until her bowl was empty. She gained quite a few grams now she is starting to enjoy being preened and held. It has taken time and patience so it is so nice to see her enjoying herself. She has learned a lot of new words from Simon and she has the most infectious laugh that it is impossible not to laugh with her.
PEARL was a beautiful little cockatiel. Burt saw her in a pet store, he really needs to stay away from those places, and brought her home. This was shortly after Tweety passed away. She was a sweetie and was sitting on Burt’s shoulder a few days after getting here and laid two eggs, she never laid anymore after that. She was with us for a few years and then got sick, we tried hard to save her but eventually she just couldn't stay with us anymore. It seemed as if she had turned the corner and was doing better but the next morning she was gone. She is buried in our back yard in the flowers. Miss you little girl. NAPOLEON joined us next. In case you didn't guess by now, I love greys. A lady in the bird club wanted to find a home for him and while at the meeting Napoleon and I were bonding so Burt talked to the lady and Napoleon was mine. They brought him over with his cage that evening. Napoleon is a wonderful companion and a wonderful bird. Napoleon is a sweet and loving bird who loves to give me kisses. He is constantly learning new words but won’t talk in front of Burt, when Burt leaves the room he starts talking or if he is with mom he talks…of course he doesn't like Burt or men for that matter. I am now complete...I have my grey...

Mom's allergies are acting up and making her feel not so good. She is sluggish.
The rains are done, and it is coolish but sunnier. I'm working on stealing a Polly pellet again.

Wowo! BOTD! I never ever imagined that would happen! And it is so wonderful that everyone was able to come back for even more fun and food and celebration! Jetta totally wiped me out with all the fun things to do at the Man Cave (formerly known as the Castle). I think I like the pinball games alot--or maybe it is all the noise and bright lights? In any case...thank YOU so much for making my Hatchday special, and for letting me experience the Castle. I have had a blast!!!! And I could not have done it without you.

DAY 20 ~ THANKS FOR THE VOTE!
DANIA’S VACATION TO LEBANON part 1
Last year, in February 2012, my parents were discussing about my dad’s sister and his mom going to Lebanon to pay their sister insurance. My dad paid 1000$ every month to his sisters because his oldest sister had two grown children and their parents were divorced. In addition, the other sister who lived with them worked as a teacher and tried paying for the family. When I heard about it, I soon said I wanted to go to Lebanon too, to see my aunts, my cousin and family. My parents thought about it then, they decided that it would be my birthday present to go to Lebanon. I was glad but unfortunately I had to wait until end of March. I was usually impatient so I tried getting it out of my mind for a while. Then it was finally the day where me, my grandma and my aunt were heading to Lebanon. We sat at the airport where my dad worked, and went to a restaurant to have breakfast. Then it was time to say our goodbyes, I was leaving for two weeks and I was already crying, missing my parents. It was the first time I was gone that long from my parents and first time I was going on vacation during the school days. Furthermore, we boarded the plane and took off to head to Lebanon, Beirut. HAPPY HUMPDAY! mom was feeding my crickets in my cricket farm and one managed to jump out. it had only a few minutes of freedom before i spied it and pounced on it.
mom said she has never seen me move so fast. its been a long time since i have eaten a live one. boy, was it ever tasty!

Congrats to the Tiel Terrors on their win yesterday!
Our hearts are sad for all that loss of life in OK. What a terrible event.
Mom worked in the RVS room again today, the baby foxes are growing like weeds! There are still a ton of raccoons and a few ground hogs, too. Then she went to get her hair cut, and stopped to pick up some lunch. We all told her to eat fast, because both the boys have a game today, and Falco wants to watch and cheer. Tonight she's working at the museum again, a special evening event. On my page is a pic of the fountain mom got running the other day. It looks like it's terra cotta, but it's really a light plastic. So sorry it took us so long to get back to you. Mom got slammed with more work. Then she had some health issues from her endometriosis. She's getting better today. Thank goodness! When she doesn't feel good I get quiet. Mom put on Dancing with the Stars last night so Kahlua could sing and dance. She loves that show because it's noisy! Then I found a stink bug last night. I was not happy about that. It almost crawled on mom. Mom is terrified of those things.
We hope you have an awesome time with your grandchildren! That sounds like so much fun (and work).
Mom says my species is originally from Indonesia!
Mom thought about Arizona for moving because it does get hot in the day, but then it cools off a lot at night so she thought that might be a nice mix. And it isn't that humid, sticky kind of heat. Mom's scared of moving where there are lots of tornadoes. She can't believe the pictures she's seeing on the TV. Kahlua and I even got scared of a few of them.

Mom is pet sitting this week for her friends. They have 3 cats and a rabbit. Their townhouse is on the market so she has to make sure it stays nice and clean too. She's getting the mail and watering the plants -- and they have lots of plants, which is nice. Mom likes plants. And the pets are adorable. They have a dog too, but she went to stay with her grandparents. They will be gone for 2 weeks. Mom is also going to go to their new house site and take pictures every few days to make sure they have pictures of the progress of the house. It's starting to look different every day so she wants to make sure to capture it all while they are gone.
Well, that's about it for us. It's really sticky and muggy here the last few days. We're glad it's not cold but it's that icky stickiness. So mom finally broke down and put the AC on. Now if she'd only go to Wal-Mart and get groceries we'd be really happy! LOL

Mom says these last couple of tornados were too close for comfort. Sunday tornado right over house but stayed up and Monday .... just south of the Tinker AFB were she works. 25 of moms friends and famil hit and 5 of dads. Mom and dad will be busy in recovery efforts and soon as the officials allow us in. Have a wonderful day. V4U. Hugs.

That was very scary about the fire. You never know which way it will turn. My Wingabago is ready for an escape if needed. Mom is the same way family first and pictures next if time allows. So glad you are all ok.
Sorry I wasn’t on the BC on Monday. We had a very severe t-storm that lasted several hours. It cause some flooding, trees down, wires down, and no power in most of our county. Everything was back up and running this morning.
I was very, very scared and snuggled with mom the whole time, not making a sound. I don’t like rain and this was very bad. As soon as we could, we turned on CNN and saw the terrible destruction in Oklahoma. Keeping all those people in our prayers, so sad.

What would you like to know about Nandays? Popeye has been with dad for over 25 years. She is the sweetest bird. She loves dad and dad loves her. She has been through a lot but still comes out kickin'.
Sun Conures are very playful and sweet, too. Pionus are very under stated. They are wonderful birds and make great pets. Your mom's idea to let the bird choose her is a good move.

Hi Athena & family
How are u sweetie? It's gonna be a scorcher today, high of 89...with heat index, feels like 95! It was 79 at 10am!
Mom is doing good today, but her nose is very sore! Mom has been giving me belly kisses for nearly 16 yrs, without incident! It's swollen on the right side & a bit bruised, even tho the damage was done on the inside! Because my nails & toes are so long, most of the damage was 2 inches down in the nasal cavity! The ER Doc said it was a good thing mom had previously had her adenoids removed, coz my nails would have destroyed the right one! Mom has to be rechecked in 2 weeks, or immediately if she starts bleeding again! She had to be cauterized in 4 different places & has to take an antibiotic! Mom said that the scariest part of having my toes stuck up her nose, was that she was very afraid my 2 toes would end up broken...mom was very relieved that my toes are absolutely fine! Mom refers to this incident as "NoseGate 2013"!
Mom doesn't want anyone to think that the ER Nurses & Docs were being discourteous, they were not! They were picturing a tiny pet bird, like a Budgie, not a large Macaw! Mom showed them a pic of me, they weren't expecting me to be so big! When mom said "Be glad I got her loose before I came in"! That's when they started laughing!

Mom says when she gets in messes of things she would rather not be doing she pretends its a day at an amusement park and keeps telling herself this too shall pass LOL...silly mom!
We are praying for everyone in Oklahoma with the terrible tornadoes there. We hope any of our friends on BC are safe and well too that live in the stricken area. they say it is unprecedented to have to major storms hit in the same area like oklahoma. i think the other was in 1999 and it was 300 mph winds. that is some very scary storms. we felt so saddened by everyones loss. our hearts go out to them.we have already started getting scam emails trying to get money. there are always people that try and profit over others tragedies

That's mom's priority too, animals first! What a ball game yesterday! Congratulations to the Phoenix Base Flyers, you pulled off a great win, but the Rainforest Raiders have nothing to be ashamed of. With the way they're playing, they won't lose many games this year.
Mom had 3 tours today, and she says if you have to have 3, this is the way to go: she had different grade levels and different subjects for each tour. We got the fountain up and running last night, too, so it looks pretty outside now, and we'll be able to hear the water when we go outside with mom. Today it's bright and sunny so we might get out, if mom gets our blogs done in time. DAY 19 ~ THANKS FOR THE VOTE!
DANIA’S LIFE part 11
I discovered birdchannel from a friend at my school. I registered in September 2011 after I got Angel and Luigi. The only friend on birdchannel that I talked to was SKY. Everyday there would be new activities on birdchannel he would tell me. But I really didn’t know how to go to a milonga or the kissing booth. So that’s how I didn’t know how to meet other birdies. I met Sky when he first came on BC with the broken wings broken promises page. Angel’s page was changed to birdie zone and Luigi became DJ LUIGI. To be honest, Luigi leans more to singing with me and listening to sounds than learning other tricks. Luigi started making more birdie friends when Luigi started running for 500 votes to participate for bird of the month. The Miller flock is safe and sound .... that said ...
Yesterday was a very tragic day here in Oklahoma. Mom locked down for hours on the Air Force Base while Tornado ravaged the Moore area (just south of the base). We have many friends and Co-Workers without homes now. Civilian Co-Workers will have double whammy with the loss of loved ones and a triple whammy with the upcoming furloughs to start on July 8th. So far 91 is the confirmed dead count and its expected to rise as we have not located everybody yet. Praying for everybody affected ..... hoomans and animals alike

Glad your all safe!!! I am soooo excited cause we played our first game today and we won…by one point but a win at least!! Today was moms day out with the girls and though we missed her we know she needs these days too. Mom was with her sister and the skin sis and they went shopping and did lunch/ dinner together. Hi Athena
mom had me outside today for a few hours. i discovered a small bird has built a nest in the honesuckle bush thats right beside my cage. mom says it moves too fast for her to tell what kind of bird it is. she thinks the momma bird is trying to lead her away from the nest by distracting her. love Bo Boo

DAY 18 ~ THANKS FOR THE VOTE!
DANIA'S LIFE part 10
When I brought Angel and Luigi home, I wasn't allowed to take them out of my cage. In the next few days I started to bring them out myself. It was fun hanging out with them because I taught them the bobbing head signal. Basically I bob my head in front of the cage and if they bob their heads, that means they want to come out. Also when Angel and Luigi were sitting on top of their cage, they would fly from their cage to all the way to the end of the room and turn and fly back to the cage. It was a lot of fun and I would start running and joining them too. Then Angel wanted to start breeding so I studied about breeding lovebirds and got the breeding box, the lovebird baby food formula and syringes. Angel and luigi tried breeding 5 times, the first 3, they laid eggs and then broke them and one of the eggs didn't hatch. Then I was learning on the way about staying away from the box and checking once a week. The next two times I did stay away from the box, and one bird hatched out. Unfortunatly Angel didn't take care of it properly and it died. Then the next time, 2 birds hatched out and both died since Angel didn't take care of them properly again. I realized that Angel wanted to keep breeding but I couldnt provide the box anymore because I had other things to do too. So I decided to sell Angel to someone who has another boy lovebird so Angel would continue to breed. I found a woman who owned a lovebird that was plucking his feathers. Before, she had the boy and the girl lovebird that were coupled. She and her husband got them from an auction. The wifebird had fractures and damaged body. I knew that the original owner didn't have patience with the female as they do bite to defend their territory. So after she got them, the wifebird died shortly leaving the husbird alone plucking. I was glad to give Angel to a good home where she would make the husbird happy and she would be living in with another couple, Bonny and Clyde. I was happy that Angel was with Sunny. YOU watch out! Mom tells me some baby sparrows watched the woodpeckers at the suet and figured out it was food. Now, several generations later, it is the preferred food for the flock. Don't let Remy see what YOUR favorites are.
The computer seems to be working better, but mom still has some issues. Will have to get skinbro to look at what is happening.

Oh yes I have the wing slap down good. Cause when you have other fiblings in the clutch you have to learn to wing slap to make sure you get your share of feeding. I knew it before I came to live with mom how to push and wing slap my way to food.
HELLO IT'S ME SHADOW AND MY TYPEST MOM FINALLY. DAD AND BROTHERS ARE STILL SLEEPING I SAY THEY LAZY. WE ARE UNDER A SEVER WEATHER WATCH ALL DAY LONG AND INTO THE NIGHT. THEY ARE SAYING DAMAGING WINDS HAIL AND A POSSIBLE TORNADOS . SO MOM GETTING EVERYTHING READY JUST IN CASE WE HAVE TO GO TAKE COVER.. WE WILL BE KEEPING OUR EYES TO THE SKY , TUNED TO THE WEATHER. WE HAVE A WEATHER ALERT RADIO I DONT LIKE IT WHEN IT GOES OFF ITS SCARY AND LOUD.BUT THE SIRENS OUTSIDE ARE MORE SCARIER WE ARE GETTING SO EXCITED CAUSE MOM GOT ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT OF WORK THEN SHE ALL OURS WOOT WOOT . SO WE TALKING TO THE NEIGHBORS IT WAS FUN SEEING EVERYONE AGAIN AND CATCHING UP ON THINGS. WE BEEN SPENDING LOTS OF TIME OUTSIDE WITH THE FAMILY ENJOYING THE SUN AND FRESH AIR.
COCO IS FINALLY WEANED OFF THE BABY BIRD FORMULA SHE THE CINNAMON BABY TIEL. BUT I STILL ON ONE HANd FEEDING A DAY I BEEN EATING A LITTLE SEED PELKET MIX TO THIS MORNING I ATE SCRAMBLED EGGS YUM.. ON MAY 16 to MOM AND YOUNGER BROTHER TOOK ME FOR A WALK AROUNF THE NEIGHBORHOOD . BOY IT WAS SO MUCH FUN AND LOTS OF THING TOBSEE. I DID NOT LIJE THE CARS. THAT PLAYED LOUD MUSIC THOUGH. EVEN A POLICE OFFICER WAS DRIVING BY AND STOP TO SAY HI AND GIVE ME A SCRITCHIE HE SAID I WAS SO CUTE. THAT HE HAD 2 COCKATIEL AND A BIG DOG AT HOME.. HE , BROTHER AND MOM TALJ A LITTLE BIT LONGER THEN WE SAUD GOID BY AND FINISHED OUR WALK.
MOM SAID TODAY IS NAIL TRIMS AND CAGE CLEANING GRRRRRRRRRR. NOT TO MUCH MORE GOING ON HERE SO KICKING YOUR VOTE OFF .. HAVE A BIRDFUL DAY SHILOHCome visit me, CASPER, SHADOW, BUTTERBALL, STORMY, CHYNA I moved in Today, SHILOH, MOCHA, COCO PUFF, WADDLES & LUCY.

Hi Athena & family
How are u sweetie? Nothing much happened here today, except mom stayed home all day! We had a beautiful day of 78! I spent a lot of time outside today, but didn't get to drive my car, coz I don't really like to be out in the direct sun! Mom swears that I can smell when rain is coming, coz when it got real cloudy & looked like it would rain, I started freaking out & wouldn't let her take me off the porch! I ran up her arm & scrambled onto her back & told her NOOOOO, I hold on to mom's shirt, pant, & gently flap my wings, while on her back...mom calls it my rain dance I wouldn't get off her back & onto her hand until she went back inside! Mom calls Mom told me it was not raining, but I wasn't taking her word about it! I DO NOT like OUTSIDE shower baths!

My daddy's checkup went pretty well, but had to have his meds readjusted, his BP was to high making him dizzy when he stands up! He must go back in three weeks for a quick re-check of things! He was really bummed for having to miss the baseball game, and it looked like good one! Congrats to Screech for joining the 10K Club! Dad has a QCPS bird club meeting this afternoon and evening, poor Arthur is going to get a nails and beak job, and I am taking bets on how much blood will be spilled, LOL!
