  Hi Cookie
Cappy bellows and Dory gooses him in the side and says shhhh ... oh, um, right Cappy whispers. We were wondering, Cookie, If there are any good aviary books in here that can show mom how to furnish one .... Rudy wants one for keeping bugs away, Dory wants a romance and Dixie doesn't care as long as she can destroy one lol. On a different note mom just finished reading Alex and Me and had to go through a whole box of tissue ... she was so sad but was also happy Dr Pepperberg had the time with him. That little grey was awesome.... So any suggestions Cappy chuckles.
V4U, Hugs.

  Hi Cookie
Mom has read 2 books so far by Alice Hoffman, The Dove Keepers and The Museum of Extraordinary Things. Both are great stories, the first one is set in ancient times, and the second set in the early 1900s, with some scenes from the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire included. Good reads. Mom has the Museum one, but has already passed on the Dovekeepers. If anyone is interested, let me know, and mom will send it to you. Hugs, Falco

The Owl Who Liked Sitting On Caesar
Living With A Tawny Owl by Martin Windrow.
An excellent true story, well written, about a British man who shared his life with Mumble in his apartment and later in a country house. Every other chapter is informative information about owls interwoven with the story of love, friendship, frustration and coping with an owl sharing Mr. windrow's heart and life. Parts make you laugh and parts make you cry! It left a lasting impression on my mom and she is reading it again for a second time in less than a year!
PS you can probably get it on line or at a library but Barnes & Noble carries it as hardcover in their stores.

Mom just finished the book by Dr. Pol, Never Turn your back on an Angus Cow. It was an interesting memoir, if your mom watches that show, she knows he's a large animal vet, so he had some good stories. Hugs, Falco

  Hi Cookie
Mom loved the Birds of Pandemonium, but it was too short! She could have kept reading, it was interesting. Kind of reminded her of the center and us parrots all at once. We recommend it to anyone, but we won't send our copy this time, the photos are beauties. Hugs, Falco

  Hi Everybirdy
Dad ordered a book called "The blossoms on the rooftop" by Luba Czerhoniak Fedash. Its about her growing up in the Carpathian Mountains and then coming to America. Dad thinks that Luba could be related to him since the Carpathian Mountains is where his grandparents came from and his grandmothers maiden name was Czerhoniak. Luba has a new one out also called "Those Fleeting Years". Mom also read the book and was hard to set it down for long.

  Hey Everyone
Mom has discovered a pretty good series by Daniel Silva. The hero is named Gabriel Allon, and his 'real' job is as an art restorer, so the settings are really good. So far mom has read The English Girl, The Rembrandt something or other, Fallen Angel. She just ordered 4 more from Amazon, and can't wait to read them too. Hugs, Falco

  Pearl & Silver fly in
with a book recommendation. Their mom's sis raved about a new book series and after mom read it agreed and now skinsis is reading it. It is about a woman who is an animal behaviorist (originally trained as a vet) and is called to help an agitated Doberman who witnessed his beloved owner's murder. Her secret? She is an animal psychic and can 'talk' to animals, wild and domestic. The first book is called Woof at the Door. The author is Laura Morrigan. The second one just came out and is called A Tiger's Tale and mom'll borrow her sis copy soon.

  Polly sheepishly enters the library
It has been TOO long.
Yesterday mom started reading me (attention span is short) a picture book we would recommend for younger children:

IF YOU WERE A PARROT by Katherine Rawson, Illustrated by Sherry Rogers.

Some basic description of what parrots look like and how they can behave. Features a Nanday conure, Blue & Gold and Scarlett macaws, and a Grey. There is also a simple craft project to make yourself a beak.

fly in with a book recommendation. It is called The Parrot Told Me by Rachael Rawlings. Her copy is on the Kindle. It is a mystery about a woman who uneggspectedly inherits an African Grey from an owner who passed away and when specific music is played talks in the previous owner's voice (and others) leading the new mom to conclude the death was murder. Snooping commences. Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome to BC!
Now that Linda has found this page, she will remember to add a title from time to time. She is retired now though and is looking forward to having more time for books for herself.

Pearl and Silver fly in with another
book recommendation. It's a series this time, The Birder Mysteries about a Minnesota high school counselor who birds in his spare time and finds dead bodies. Our mom describes it as a light or cozy type without too much R rated stuff going on. The author is Jan Dunlap.

The first book is called The Boreal Owl Murder. #2 Murder on Warbler Weekend; #3 A Bobwhite Killing; #4 Falcon Finale; #5 A Murder of Crows.

Her copies are on the Kindle but would imagine they are also in paperback. Enjoy!

Pearl and Silver fly in with
a book recommendation. Boo Boo told 'em her mom had seen a movie called A Bird of the Air. The 2011 movie was based on a book called The Loop by Joe Coomer published in 1992. It's about a man who finds an 80 year old parrot (yellow-naped Amazon like Sugar) and sets about discovering its history based on the few phrases it says. A very quick read, a lil less than 200 pages. We give it both wings up of approval.

  TiPaul tiptoes in very quietly
after seeing a blog about the book Flyaway somewhere... Mom is on something for allergies to black fly bites and is feeling miserable and TiPaul is treating her real sweet. He is reading to her. LOL Mom ordered a bunch of books from Amazon, Flyaway being one of them, to prepare for late night reading and winter reading - she stocks up when tax time comes. She was also sent a few books from Falco, but she is always looking for more. The winters are long here. It is still rainy and dull today. We have had two nice days this spring so far, nothing like last year at all. It is like April. See you later... Have a greyt Sunday.

Pearl and Silver fly in with a lil
book review. They saw that Cookie has an extra copy of Flyaway for any birdie who requests it and want to say they've read it and recommend it. There are sad parts and funny parts and just don't know how the heck the author was able rehab birds (juggling hubby, young kids and her own pets) for as long as she did. We give it both wings up and 5 stars (out of 5).

Donna Andrews is one of my mom's favorite authors, and she has read all of the books in the Meg series. There is always an animal or two in there. Blaize Clement wrote a nice series about a pet sitter as well, but I think she may have passed away so there probably won't be any more. Recommend the ones out there though. Good mystery read with a light touch.

Chloe enters the library quietly as
she knows one is supposed to be quiet in a library so others can read in a quiet surrounding.

She goes up to the front desk and speaks with Cookie...I would like to recommend a picture book for parrots called "Polly Wants a Poem!". It is a cute book of poetry and prose just for us parrots that our parronts can read to us and it has pictures of real birdies in it for us to look at, I know this cause my frother Simon is in the book twice and Taz is in once. It was written by Bob Morrow, he has published hundreds of poems for children but until he found himself sharing his home with Harley (CAG) who quickly converted him to parrot fan. A portion of each sale is donated to The Alex Foundation. Pictures of the book can be found on my page.

Enjoy, Chloe
