Mom just finished reading the new Elizabeth Warren's book, A Fighting Chance. It was really good and left mom feeling optimistic about the nation. She recommends it to anyone needing a lift.

  Hi Everybirdy
Dad ordered a book called "The blossoms on the rooftop" by Luba Czerhoniak Fedash. Its about her growing up in the Carpathian Mountains and then coming to America. Dad thinks that Luba could be related to him since the Carpathian Mountains is where his grandparents came from and his grandmothers maiden name was Czerhoniak. Luba has a new one out also called "Those Fleeting Years". Mom also read the book and was hard to set it down for long.

  Hey Everyone
Mom has discovered a pretty good series by Daniel Silva. The hero is named Gabriel Allon, and his 'real' job is as an art restorer, so the settings are really good. So far mom has read The English Girl, The Rembrandt something or other, Fallen Angel. She just ordered 4 more from Amazon, and can't wait to read them too. Hugs, Falco

  Pearl & Silver fly in
with a book recommendation. Their mom's sis raved about a new book series and after mom read it agreed and now skinsis is reading it. It is about a woman who is an animal behaviorist (originally trained as a vet) and is called to help an agitated Doberman who witnessed his beloved owner's murder. Her secret? She is an animal psychic and can 'talk' to animals, wild and domestic. The first book is called Woof at the Door. The author is Laura Morrigan. The second one just came out and is called A Tiger's Tale and mom'll borrow her sis copy soon.

  Polly sheepishly enters the library
It has been TOO long.
Yesterday mom started reading me (attention span is short) a picture book we would recommend for younger children:

IF YOU WERE A PARROT by Katherine Rawson, Illustrated by Sherry Rogers.

Some basic description of what parrots look like and how they can behave. Features a Nanday conure, Blue & Gold and Scarlett macaws, and a Grey. There is also a simple craft project to make yourself a beak.

  Pearl and Silver
fly in with a book recommendation. It is called The Parrot Told Me by Rachael Rawlings. Her copy is on the Kindle. It is a mystery about a woman who uneggspectedly inherits an African Grey from an owner who passed away and when specific music is played talks in the previous owner's voice (and others) leading the new mom to conclude the death was murder. Snooping commences. Enjoy!

BRIGHT CHRISTMAS by Andrew Clements (abridged)
I have always been an angel, Always.
I've never needed a clock or a calendar,
because here where I live
there's really no time at all.

People sometimes think that Christmas came suddenly,
one holy night. I know better.
Other things came first - amazing things, beautiful things, important things.
And I saw them all
Because when a message goes from heaven to earth, it's not a letter
It's an angel
And the angel doesn't just carry the message
The angel IS the message.

I remember the star in the sky above Bethlehem.
All the songs and messages
we had ever brought to earth
they all led up to that one night,
and they lit up the sky.

We were watching over Joseph and his wife
when the innkeeper sent them away
We knew where they were going
We knew they would be safe and warm
in the quiet of the stable.

And Mary, I will always remember her face when she heard us sing.
Mary knew that this child was bringing the
great truth.

In the hills above Bethlehem, I remember the faces of the shepherds, looking up.
It was time for the great truth to shine on the Earth.

Earth now had a heavenly light of its own, and it made me sing louder and sweeter.
Our song was like the smile of God.

Once I sing a song, the song never stops.
It's like a star that burns forever.
Christmas is the brightest and the happiest song I ever sang.
The star is still shining,
and I am still singing,
and the earth is still singing back.

Christmas Blessings my friends - with love from Cookie and mom Mary

Captain barnacles on deck reading Molly's Thanksgiving book, P IS FOR PUMPKIN.
Does the BC library have my Mom's books? I think birds would like DUCK ON A DOCK or the funny book, ROCCO, NO! They might like EVERGREEN LEARNS THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS. The last book, RUSTY'S RIVER, has many different kinds of feathery friends in it.
Let me know if you need any of the books for the library. Mom will autograph them.
Hope to talk soon. Mom is learning how to do a new book on her new laptop with windows 8 or as she calls it, windows hate.

Pearl and Silver fly in with another
book recommendation. It's a series this time, The Birder Mysteries about a Minnesota high school counselor who birds in his spare time and finds dead bodies. Our mom describes it as a light or cozy type without too much R rated stuff going on. The author is Jan Dunlap.

The first book is called The Boreal Owl Murder. #2 Murder on Warbler Weekend; #3 A Bobwhite Killing; #4 Falcon Finale; #5 A Murder of Crows.

Her copies are on the Kindle but would imagine they are also in paperback. Enjoy!

Pearl and Silver fly in with
a book recommendation. Boo Boo told 'em her mom had seen a movie called A Bird of the Air. The 2011 movie was based on a book called The Loop by Joe Coomer published in 1992. It's about a man who finds an 80 year old parrot (yellow-naped Amazon like Sugar) and sets about discovering its history based on the few phrases it says. A very quick read, a lil less than 200 pages. We give it both wings up of approval.

She was also sent a few books from Falco, but she is always looking for more. The winters are long here. It is still rainy and dull today. book review. They saw that Cookie has an extra copy of Flyaway for any birdie who requests it and want to say they've read it and recommend it. Donna Andrews is one of my mom's favorite authors, and she has read all of the books in the Meg series. There is always an animal or two in there. Blaize Clement wrote a nice series about a pet sitter as well, but I think she may have passed away so there probably won't be any more. Recommend the ones out there though. Good mystery read with a light touch.

Chloe enters the library quietly as
she knows one is supposed to be quiet in a library so others can read in a quiet surrounding.

She goes up to the front desk and speaks with Cookie...I would like to recommend a picture book for parrots called "Polly Wants a Poem!". It is a cute book of poetry and prose just for us parrots that our parronts can read to us and it has pictures of real birdies in it for us to look at, I know this cause my frother Simon is in the book twice and Taz is in once. It was written by Bob Morrow, he has published hundreds of poems for children but until he found himself sharing his home with Harley (CAG) who quickly converted him to parrot fan. A portion of each sale is donated to The Alex Foundation. Pictures of the book can be found on my page.

Enjoy, Chloe

Here are some books for the library, we'd like to donate them: Song of the Dodo, by David Quammen, is about island biogeography and is very interesting; The Reluctant Mr. Darwin, by the same author, discusses Charles Darwin's personality and why it took him so long to publish his theory. He was nearly upstaged by another scientist!; Beak of the Finch, talks about the work among the Galapagos finches going on today; and some light reading: any Inspector Brunetti mystery by Donna Leon. She sets her stories in Venice, Italy, so the setting is great and the plots have unusual twists in them at times. Hugs, Falco and the boys

Another story of a human-bird relationship - SHARING A ROBIN'S LIFE by Linda Johns is the true story of a robin named County who chose to share life with the author after being rescued as a fledgling. Although County is a free flying house bird, the author tries to give her as close to a natural life as possible. This includes nest building, foraging for food and egg laying. Marvelous !
