My mom and dad came to see all the birds Marc Marrone had -- just to look. I would NOT let them leave without me. They looked at other sulfur cockatoos but I kept butting in. I already had a name because of my personality. I like to bob my head and walk with a hop in my step.

After me came Kahlua, below, and Bumbles, who now lives with dad. Bumbles,a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo, was rescued from a man who couldn't bring Bumbles with him to his new condo in Florida.

Mom strongly encourages people to get a rescue bird. So many abandoned birds need a home with someone who will give them tons of love and care. And they have so much to give in return!

Hi! My name is Tango

I am a Citron-Crested Cockatoo from Poughkeepsie, NY.

Shrimp, Bangy, Bang Bang Shrimp, Sweetheart, Tango Bango

12 years old   F

Citron-Crested Cockatoo

Kaytee Yogurt Drops -- only the Mango-flavored cylinder ones, unsalted pretzels, Chex cereal, pine nuts, sunflower seeds, especially the blueberry Kaytee yogurt-covered ones. I also like apples and grapes.

I like to sit anywhere on mom, my sand perch in my cage, on my cage door, on my play stand, on the windowsill, on mom's knee when she's reading, or under a blanket with mom for hugs and cuddles.

I hate dirty feet or stepping in anything dirty or wet -- even water.

I'm scared of spilled liquid -- if anything is spilled I come running over to look and then run away and hide but will not forget it was there, even after it's been cleaned. I won't go on or near that spot for hours but will peer down at it occasionally to make sure it hasn't come back!

I refuse to learn tricks, but if I see my African Grey sister, Kahlua, doing it, then I have to do it too.

I like to give kisses to other people, but they have to approach me with their hands behind their backs.

I don't like glasses or hats or nail polish on fingernails (but toes are fine).

Kahlua -- I don't like her too close to me. I tolerate her and I will only sit next to her when mom is reading and has her knees bent. I will sit on one knee and let Kahlua sit on the other.

If mom has a glass or water for us (yes, we sometimes get our own drinking glasses) and Kahlua and I both want a drink, I want to go first. If Kahlua wants a drink and I don't even want one, I still want to go first. Of course, mom makes me wait my turn.

If mom is reading, I have to have a piece of paper too -- and it has to be from the same one mom has. And you can't trick me. I can tell the difference. I don't eat the paper. I just hold it in my foot, up against my beak and make crunching noises. That's how I "read".

She spoils me and spends all her free time with me. She'd rather be with me than people sometimes. She gets me everything I need and loves me unconditionally- .

She tells me she loves me and gives me all the hugs and kisses I want. I like when she says, "Hi Sweetheart."

I love to hold a "security blanket," which is any cloth that is carefully cut and tied in the middle with rope or ribbon. I hold it in my foot against my beak whenever I'm relaxing.

I also like to make what look like spit balls in my mouth by rubbing my tongue against the roof of my mouth. I do this when I'm relaxing too.

If someone comes over and watches me doing something I'll freeze and sit like a statue, thinking no one can see me if I stay really still.

When mom goes out for too long, I make soup in my water bowl with whatever is in my cage. It's usually a mix of food but sometimes includes toys.

I love to go into my toy box (a square fabric cube) and I throw all the toys across the room until I get to the one I want.

I notice anything new mom does to the house. If she buys a new throw pillow or rearranges something, I have to have mom take me over to see it. And of course, I have to see it first -- before Kahlua.

I don't like new people and things and it takes me time to get used to them, but once in awhile I just go right up to something or someone.

I grab 2 or 3 treats in my mouth at once from my bowl and bring them to the top of my cage, or the highest spot wherever I am at the time, before eating. I got to make sure no one else gets them!

What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine! :-).

Pecked a V4U Tango and a silent one for Kahlua...Today my campaign blog will be about two more mammals here in the state of Pa. and also our Pocono area where we live..The first will be a bout the Deer Mouse...This and the similar white-footed mouse are probably the most abundant mammals in Pennsylvania..They may enter houses in the fall and be mistaken for house mice...The deer mouse has huge black eyes, large ears, fawn-colored back, white belly and paws, and a furred tail; the house mouse is grayer, has a gray belly and naked tail...The deer mouse eats seeds, fruits and insects, and is tidy..Its nest is a ball of soft material...This dainty mouse is 7-8 inches long, including tail..Up to four litters (3-7 young each) may be born annually....The second will be about the Gray Squirrel..The nickname "bushytail" refers to his fluffy tail, almost as long as his body, which lends balance in his amazing acrobatics..Grizzled gray (more or less rusty along the back) with a white belly...The black color phase is common in northern Pennsylvania..The hind legs are powerful, the front paws dainty and agile for handling nuts, seeds, fruits, and occasional insects and mushrooms...Squirrels may build temporary "nests"-balls of leaves and twigs high in a tree...Young (4-5) are born in a tree cavity or man made nest box..Adults weigh about 1-1 1/2 pounds...The meat is quite tasty...Tomorrow I will continue more of with more of the mammals....Sure hope you are finding the blogs of interest...I thank each and every birdie who continues to vote for me daily...Have a great Sunday...Lots of wing hugs to you.....STORMY :o)

Pecked a V4U Tango and a silent one for Kahlua...Today my campaign blog will be about another two mammals here in Pennsylvania and in the Pocono area where we live...He first will be about the Long-Tailed Weasel..One of three weasels in the state, all of which have long, slender bodies...This species has a long, black-tipped tail; head and body are about 1-1 1/2 feet long (females, slightly smaller)....Some individuals turn white in winter except for the tail-tip; most remain brown...Usually nocturnal, The weasel may sometimes move around in daytime; in winter, weasel tracks are often seen in the snow...Hairless and blind young (5 or 6) are born in a burrow in May....The weasel's appetite for small rodents makes him a welcome guest; he may also eat insects, frogs, snakes and birds...The second will about the Eastern Mole...Most of us know moles, if not from experience with them or their burrows, then at least as the "Mr.Mole" of numerous children's stories..He's always chubby and near-sighted-like the real-life mole with his stubby 6-inch body and tiny eyes...He has no external ears, but makes up for a lack there with jumbo-size front paws for burrowing...His plushy fur is slate-gray..Though moles irritate homeowners by tunneling through lawns, they also eat lawn-damaging grubs and insects and aerate the soil...Tomorrow my campaign blogs will continue on the mammals.....Hope you find these blogs on our mammals of some interest...Also I am sure many other states have some of the same mammals living there...Again thanks to every birdie who votes for me daily...I do appreciate every vote...Have a great Saturday...Lots of wing hug to you..STORMY :o)

Pecked a V4U and a silent one for Kahlua...Thank you, Thank You for your votes...Today my campaign blog will continue with more mammals in our state of Pa. and here in the Pocono area where we live....The first will be about the Muskrat..Looking something like a cross between a beaver and vole-and about midway between them in size-is this mammal of marshes, ponds and streams...Primarily a vegetarian specializing in cattails, the muskrat will also eat small animals....The muskrat is a prolific breeder...Home may be a lodge of mud and plant material in shallow water, or a burrow in pond-or stream bank...Burrows may damage ponds; fortunately, muskrat fur is valuable, and a good way to solve such problems is to invite in a responsible trapper to thin the 'rat population...The second will be about the Meadow Vole..Called "meadow mice" by some, several species of voles have chunkier heads and bodies, shorter tails, and smaller ears than mice..Adult meadow voles are dark brown, about five inches long with a 1 1/2-inch tail...They are found almost everywhere in the state where there is tall grass, through, which they clear runways at ground level...Many of Pennsylvania's meat-eaters depend on voles as a basic diet..Even black bears munch on an occasional vole..Meadow voles eat grasses, seeds, field crops and fruits; in winter, they'll sometimes eat bark.... Saturday I will blogging about 2 more mammals....Hope you are enjoying reading about these mammals...Thank all of you that continues to vote everyday for me...Have a great Friday...Lots of wing hugs to you....STORMY :o)

Hi Everybirdy!

I wanted to thank all of you for taking the time to stop by and congratulate me on being BOTD yesterday! :-) I loved hearing from all of you and thought your compliments were so sweet!

Mom was teaching G'Pa how to hook his laptop up to his TV using an HDMI cable so he could watch movies on his flat screen TV. Well, just to practice she pulled up my BOTD picture with the crown. I could not figure out why I could see the same thing on the computer AND in a huge format on the TV! I was quite intrigued. Then, Mom went to YouTube to put on a video of an Umbrella 'Too! Well, that was it! I was mesmerized and very confused! I didn't know where to look and it was a big scary to see a big Umbrella 'Too on the big screen of the TV -- and hear him too! Then I started dancing. I still can't figure it out! Parronts!

I also got to have a special BOTD "Cake" that G'Pa had made. It was a healthy cake that I could have, of course. Of course I had to share with Kahlua. And then she tried to come over and take my piece! Luckily, Mom made sure she stayed away.

Overall, I had a great day! Thank you again!

Love and Citron Hugs,
Tango (and Mom Kristen too)

Come visit me, Kahlua & Tango.

So happy to see you as BOTD...Already pecked a V4U today..Silent one for Kahlua also...Today my campaign blog will be about 2 more mammals in our state and also in the Pocono Area where we live..The first will be about Short-Tailed Shrew...Heavyweight of Pennsylvania's seven shrew species, tips the scale at half and ounce...A common mammal in the state, but more likely to be heard(as a tiny rustle in fallen leaves)than seen, due to its size and shyness...Extremely active and a voracious eater, it consumes at least it own weight every day in insects, spiders, snails, millipedes, slugs, etc....Its saliva is poisonous to small animals but harmless to man...The velvety gray-furred shrew has a very pointed snout and tiny front feet, unlike the heavy spade-shaped feet of the mole....The second is the Eastern Cottontail..The rabbit's legendary love for vegetables gets him into trouble with home gardeners..But, along with voles and mice, rabbits are a vital part of Pennsylvania's food chain..They're taken in large numbers by foxes, hawks, owls and other predators; to make up for this, their breeding rate is also legendary...With suitable habitat, including escape cover, rabbits flourish despite animal predation and hunting..Cottontails are most active at dawn and dusk...Young-up to 6 0r 7 liters a year-are born naked and blind....Tomorrow I will continue with more mammals in our state and Pocono's...Sure hope you are enjoying the blogs and think they are interesting....Thank you every BC bird friend who continues to vote for me daily..Have a great Tuesday...Lots of wing hugs to you....STORMY :o)

Pecked a V4U Tango...Today my campaign blog will be about another 2 mammals living here in Pennsylvania and also the Pocono area...The first will be about the Black Bear..The only species of bear in Pennsylvania; most common in northcentral and northeastern counties...Some are brown("cinnamon")rather than black. Prefers forests, dense swamps, sometimes visits farmlands...Bears eat almost anything, including garbage, and will freeload if given a chance...One to four cubs are born while the female is in winter den...Most females have cubs every other year...Bears don't truly hibernate, but sleep soundly in nests or dens in hollow stumps, caves and under trees...Average adult weight: male, 150-400 pounds; female, 115-200 pounds.....The second will be about the Porcupine..The "porkie" is one mammal most people recognize--his quills (really modified hairs) are an outstanding feature...They stick into just about anything that brushes against them, and are hard to remove...The porcupine eats almost any kind of vegetation, and in winter will eat twigs or the inner bark of trees..He may gnaw on wooden tools or buildings, to the owners dismay...A creature of forests, the porkie is almost active at night...Under the quills he's about the size of a large house cat...Females usually have one baby every year or two...Tomorrow I will be blogging on 2 more of the mammals...Hope you are enjoying the blogs and find them interesting...Thank you every birdie that continues to peck a vote for me daily...Have a great Monday....Lots of hugs...STORMY :o)

Pecked a V4U..Thanks for stopping by...Today my campaign blog will be about 2 more mammals found in Pennsylvania and our Pocono area...The first will be about the Woodchuck....The woodchuck, or groundhog, is the largest member of the squirrel family..Chucks are usually found near farmland but may dig burrows in the woods..These later become homes for many animals, but cause problems for farmers...The grizzled brown chuck, about two feet long and weighing about 10 pounds, whistles when alarmed...He eats grasses, clover, alfalfa, plantain, apples, beans, corn and other plants..Young are born blind and naked in April, 2-6 per litter...A true hibernator...Woodchuck meat is edible....The second will be about the Bobcat...Pennsylvania's only wild cat, the bobcat is smaller than a big house cat..It feeds mainly on small mammals such as mice, rats, voles, rabbits and hares, as well as on birds..Once quite common in the state, the bobcat population has declined since the 1920's...Favored habitat of brushy forest has matured across much of the state, leaving them with fewer places to live..Most bobcats are found in the wilder parts of the state..The bobcat was declared a game animal and give total protection here in 1970..Tomorrow it will be about 2 more mammals...Hope you are enjoying the blogs and find them of some interest...Thank every birdie who votes daily for me during this campaign...Surely are appreciated..Have a great Sunday...Lots of wing hugs...STORMY :o)

  Hi Tango
Our moms would get along, since my mom is almost a full time reader. She goes thru 3-5 books a week since she retired. If your mom ever realizes her dream of being a writer, my mom is an excellent editor. She has helped her friend who went back to college at 50 (she just turned 57) get her bachelor's and now almost done with her Master's degree. Mom edits all her papers for her. She is the grammar and spelling queen.

Mom just tried calling Aunt Staci's cell phone again, and it went straight to voice mail which we think means it is turned off. Sure hope she calls Mom soon. We are so worried!!

A rotten day in the Kiddo household today. Mom's gym was holding a Master Class for zumba, and of course Mom had to go. Since it was open to non-gym members, and all of Mom's zumba buddies would be attending for sure, Dad told Mom she better get there to sign up 2 hours early. He sure was right! They took 65 people, and Mom was #6. They allowed people to come in to the class in the order they were signed up. Mom got her favorite spot, but this all meant she was gone from 9 till....holding, holding...1PM!! The stupid class started 15 minutes late, and then they ran over 30 minutes! One hour and 45 minutes of zumba. Mom's legs are like overcooked pasta! However she had fun, and she was supposed to spend the rest of the day with me. So what does she do after her shower? Sure she sat and read with me for 30 minutes, but then she and Dad took off to pick up mushroom Swiss burgers from Carl's JR since Mom had a get it free coupon. Ok, I got to share it, and she gave me two of Dad's French fries, and I got some fried zucchini too. But really, does that sound like I am being treated fairly? Gone for 4 hours, and then running off again!?? I should report her to PETA!

  Hi Kristen, Tango & Kahlua
So nice to "meet you", and to get to know a bit about you. Sorry to hear about the lung condition. My husband and I have had some nasty medical issues over the past 5 years, so I can so relate.

I don't understand FB, so I am not active on the FB community at all. I do have a page, but I don't know how to navigate around or blog anybody.

And although I was given a smart phone by my best friend when she upgraded, I haven't a clue how to do anything but make a phone call. She keeps telling me to go to the AT&T store, and they will teach me. So one of these days....

Just came from Hulk's page and pecked his vote button. He will make a greyt candidate for BOTM, whether he wants to or not!! LOL. I suspect he wants to though judging by his profile pic. So I am going to track his votes the best I can starting late like this; just one of the services of the BOTM Calendar Curator.

I did end up getting my sunbath yesterday afternoon after all. Mom and I got out there about 1:30, and it was actually pleasant. I do have to complain that she was sneaky again though. I was playing in the carrier and when she saw me in there the lid came down and out we went. I had eaten the cookie bait hours before, so she did bring a nutriberry out for me. Then this morning we went out at 10:45, and it was cool enough Mom could actually sat in the sun the whole time. So we both sunbathed.

Then she came in and read to me for a bit, but much to my distress she then took off for the library and to get Gloria a bath. Why does the car need to go somewhere to get washed? Oh yeah, she doesn't have a water bowl to dip into. Poor Gloria.

  Hi Tango
First I just have to say that I am your 1000th vote!! Very eggciting for both of us! Congrats!

Now I saw your blog on the Calendar Page with questions about BOTD and BOTM. I will let Sugar address your queries about BOTD, because that is her deal. However as BOTM Calendar Curator, I am happy to eggsplain how BOTM works.

In order to qualify to run for BOTM you need at least 500 votes and 6 months active on BC which both you and Kahlua meet. Then you need a birdy (not from your flock) to nominate you on the BOTM Calendar Page, and another birdy to second the nomination. I know that would be simple for you to accomplish, because although we do not normally blog each other I see your names all over the place every day. Once you are nominated, I would contact you asking if you wish to run. If you accept, then you pick your month to run. Currently there are birdies scheduled thru November for the December BOTM. If either or both of you are nominated you could run in December or any month after that which you pick. Some birds like particular months to run for the holidays that fall in that month to make a theme for their campaign. For instance, a bird running in December might want to do a Christmas/Chanukah theme, or for January talk about New Year's resolutions. A theme for your campaign is not required, but it is a good way to get birdies to come to your page and vote. The most important thing to do is always respond to every blog during the month you run thanking the bird for their vote and thus being gracious and also making it easier for them to return to your page and vote again.

I hope this answers all your questions, but if you have more please don't hesitate to ask on either my page or the BOTM Calendar Page.

P.S. This month is the first one in a long time that we have not had a bird actively campaigning for BOTM. That leaves things wide open, so anybirdy could win. BC tracks the votes by computer, and they declare the "Top Bird" on the eClub page on the first of the month they have won. They also award points (which I consider useless these days) and send an email notifying the bird they are BOTM.

Hi Tango & Kahlua, from Jenny & Christy
Wow what a loud and stormy night, we got tons of rain and it is still coming down, it will be heading straight East (slowly) towards SP and aunt Teri's home this afternoon! A quick look around told us that we were lucky once again, they say we needed the rain, but dad has his doubts, he said it just makes the grass grow, LOL! Regretfully we won't be coming to this month's Milonga, it is just to hard for our daddy, and I doubt we will even be missed!   Hi Tango!
Auntie Eva finished my official royal portrait, isn't it awesome?! She made me look very handsome, and mom agrees! LOL. Speaking of pictures, I thought that I could hang up all of our photos from our vacations last month on one of the castle walls. That way, we will never forget our fun travels! You guys can come help me pick out frames and hang them.(: Come'on! Hugs, King Jester

  Hi Tango!
Sorry for being so quiet last week! I've been having too much fun in the castle to come visit, LOL. I'm really enjoying it here. There is so much to do and see, and the food is amazing! I thought that today we could have a game night in the castle. The castle is stocked with all of our favorite games, and I'll have Lizzie bring us some snacks. Hey, why wait for tonight? Let's start the fun right now! To the living room! Hugs, King Jester Bean

  Hi Tango!
“Hello Every Birdie! Today we are visiting Paris, France. Our first stop is going to be the Musée d'Orsay Museum. Let’s go!” They arrive at the museum, which used to be the Orsay Railway Station. They look through the museum, and see lots of art from the 1848s to 1914. Next they head over to the Tuileries Garden. They take a stroll through there, and it is lovely. After that, they go to see the Arc De Triomphe. The arc is big and beautiful. After they are done viewing that, they visit the Louvre Museum, one of the largest museums in the world. Inside, there is lots of artwork. They see the Mona Lisa, which makes Cookie very excited. When they are finished there, they take a tour of the Paris Catacombs. The Paris Catacombs are underground ossuaries, which hold the remains of about six million people. The tour is cool, but creepy. Next they visit the Musée Marmottan Monet. The museum features a collection of over three hundred impressionist and post-impressionist works by Claude Monet, Berthe Morisot, Edgar Degas, Edouard Manet, Alfred Sisley, Camille Pissarro, Paul Gauguin, Paul Signac, and Pierre Auguste Renior. After touring through the museum, they head over to see the Eiffel Tower. The tower is big and gorgeous. They visit the second floor of the tower, and look down at Paris. It is beautiful. After that, they eat dinner at a delicious French restaurant, and then head to a hotel. – Thanks for voting! See you tomorrow! Hugs, Jester
