After mom and dad got Tango, my Citron-Crested Cockatoo sister, they wanted another parrot so they came to look at Marc Marrone's birds again. I cried and wailed and stepped over the other greys to get them to see me. That was it. They were sold. I had them.
I could barely walk and had very few feathers. I had to come home in an aquarium tank and mom and dad hand-fed me for a few weeks.

Next came Bumbles,a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo, who was rescued from a man who couldn't bring Bumbles with him to his new condo in Florida. You can see pictures of him below, with me. He now lives with Dad. I miss him a lot but he is happy and I get to see him sometimes.

Mom strongly encourages people to get a rescue bird. So many abandoned birds need a home with someone who will give them tons of love and care. And they have so much to give in return!

Hi! My name is Kahlua

I am an African Grey from Wappingers Falls, NY.

Lu, Lu-Lu Bird, Louie, Grey-Grey (she gave herself), Beautiful

9 years old   F

African Grey

Sun Seed Sesame Rounds (but only the peanut ones and only the peanut inside), anything mom eats (although I don't get everything I want), Chex cereal, cashews, pine nuts, almonds, and walnuts. I like apples and grapes and blueberries too. I try to drink the juice out of the grapes! I would eat candy, like jelly beans or Skittles if only mom would let me. I don't understand why I can't have those things!

I love to sit on the chair or a pillow next to mom, on her knee when she reads, under a blanket when I'm tired, my green curvy perch, and on mom's laptop while she works. Of course I like to be in the highest place I can be. I love rope swings too and spiral hanging ropes but our apartment ceiling where we live now doesn't hold any type of hook. The ceiling just crumbles and the rope falls down. :-(

I hate loud or unfamiliar noises and I try to hide under the table, bed, or even a pillow.

I shake my head if I don't like something -- a song, a noise, a TV show. I'll keep shaking until it stops.

I like to cuddle on mom's chest at a certain time of night and will intentionally try to disrupt any activity she's doing if it gets too late.

I hate to see myself on video shake my head to "no" to tell mom to turn it off.

Also I will not do stuff in front of the camera. I will stop whatever I'm doing. Mom has to hide the camera to get me on video.

I don't like the word "bye" or "good-bye". I refuse to say it or acknowledge it if someone says it to me. When mom goes out and I have to go to my cage, I go on one of my perches and I sulk. I won't play or do anything until mom comes back home.

I am not happy that mom and dad are not together anymore. Dad has my old friend, Bumbles, the Rose-Breasted Cockatoos you see in my photos, and the parakeets. Bumbles was my partner in crime. He was adopted by mom and dad and he got in lots of trouble all the time. He used to teach me all these bad habits!

Mom acts silly and sings and dances with me.
She buys me my favorite treats and cuddles with me on my own terms.

She teaches me cool words and phrases and songs.

She bought me fish to watch swim when she isn't home.

She laughs at me and let's
me watch my favorite TV shows.

She knows I don't like to be pet all the the time so she shakes my hand and gives me high-fives.

She lets me "help" her around the house. She tells me how much she loves me.

I love to bite my nails.

I shake my head from side to side before I eat a piece of food.

I want you to rub my head but then I pull away.

I have to be with mom all the time, but don't want to be pet. I just want to sit close. I also have to be with mom anywhere she goes in the house -- not because I don't want to be alone but because I want to know what's going on.

I know when mom is about to cry and I make the same crying noises too.

And I laugh and cry while watching TV shows before the audience even gets a chance to laugh.

I love Judge Judy and will do the intro song to Judge Judy at 4pm if mom doesn't have it on when she's home. Mom thinks I probably do it even when she isn't here!

I'll also do the PC Richards Jingle at 4PM because they used to sponsor the time and temperature message that came on right before Judge Judy. I do that jingle all the time too.

I used to do the Jeopardy jingle at exactly 7pm when mom used to watch that.

I like to "help" feed the fish mom got. If she doesn't feed them at the right time, I go to the end of the bed and bop my head "yes" and call to mom to remind her it's time.

I love to imitate the noise they use to bleep out bad words on TV programs.

I hate pooping in my cage. I will hold it in all night until I get up and out of my cage in the morning. During the day, I like to go in Tango's cage. Why mess up my cage?

Sometimes, when I see a picture of my old friend, Bumbles, or if he comes to see me, which is not often, I often start doing all those things I'm not supposed to do that Bumbles taught me.
.

I'm a cool grey! (I taught myself that phrase.).

  Hello Kahlua~
I hope you had a wonderful day! It was pretty nice here. I am on my second toy in a week and had a great time making a lovely pile of wood at the bottom of my play cage! Mom is off tonight and tomorrow night so she took a nap and then had to go to the bank. She and Ian are giving Jennifer a new Kindle for Christmas and she wanted to use dad's account because he gets free shipping on Amazon. I think Jennifer is going to be very surprised!
I got squawked again yesterday morning and couldn't get back on until last night! It keeps happening on Sundays!! I have no idea how long it stays that way since mom had to work last night so she had to give up and go to sleep! I'm so sorry I didn't get by! I thought they took weekends off!hahahahaha I think they should take the weekends off!!
We are watching a movie while I get my notes done then it will be off to bed! I don't know why mom gets so happy about going to sleep! I'd rather stay up all night and play!
Leaving a vote and a big hug!

  Hello Kahlua~
I hope you are having a wonderful day! Lots of cleaning and some cooking going on here. Kind of boring really but I have a new toy in the play cage to keep me occupied.
Mom put the Trans Siberian Orchestra CD on for us to listen to. She just love the Christmas Canon. She love the Canon and this version of it is very beautiful! I'm enjoying it. The new computer does not have the same music program as the old one so mom has not figured out how to get more music on her MP3 player! Ian gave mom his old IPod since he got a smart phone and it does everything the Ipod does. Now mom has to figure out how to use it! She can turn it on and off! So far that's about it!Hahahahahaha It's rather embarrassing to have a mom who is so clueless when it comes to technology!
You enjoy your day and I do hope it's perfect!

  Hello Kahlua~
I hope you had a wonderful day. It's been crazy here and I am so sorry I have not been able to get notes out like I should! I would not want you to think you are not important to me because that is not true!!
You know our dog Mandy is very old now and can no longer go up or down the stairs anymore. Mom got the wee wee pads and put them all over the balcony but Mandy has been stubborn about them! She has hip dysplasia so she tends to slip a lot. She has figured out what the pads are for at least!
When mom gets home in the mornings Mandy is so excited to see her that she just pees wherever she is! Mom has been spending a whole bunch of time mopping floors, cleaning the carpet and washing blanket and towels which has left me very little time for the BC! Mom just finished working 8 days straight too!
Mom is going to put diapers on Mandy at night now. It's easier to give her a bath everyday then it is to do all this cleaning. The warm baths seems to help her too!
Everything is just fine here. We had 3 very cold days but the clouds rolled back in today and it's warmed up! I have been busy with chewing up wood and supervising the chores! It's a nice way to spend the day!
Enjoy your evening! Leaving a vote and a big hug! Please give your mom our love!
Love you ~ Sugar ♥

  Hi Kahlua
You are funny, doing that with the remote!
Thanks for your vote, and thanks to Aunt Rose, Dixie's mom, for our beautiful and seasonally appropriate pics.
I decided I'd feature Pittsburgh for at least a few days, without getting tedious.
Lots of people have the wrong idea of Pittsburgh, they still think of it like it was in the '50s, Hell with the Lid Off, because of all the mills and pollution. The mills are long gone, the riverfronts have been developed, and it's a great place to visit or to live.
We actually have a beautiful clear skyline today, with lots of tall buildings. But today I want to stress the academic climate here. Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas are home to many colleges and universities. Let's start from where I live and go towards town. There's Chatham College, Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, Carlow University, Duquesne University, Point Park College, Robert Morris, and LaRoche. Isn't that a lot of higher education? Mom has a particular fondness for Carlow, where she attended undergrad school on a working scholarship, and the University of Pittsburgh, where she got her Masters degree. Okay, so now you know where the eggheads in Pittsburgh are!
Thanks for your vote, see you again tomorrow, I hope! Hope also that you are having a great day. Hugs, Peppino

  Hello Kahlua~
I hope you are having a great day! We got to talk to dad this morning. He is in Iowa now and it's snowing there! He is at a truck stop and is going to stay there for the day. Truck drivers are only allowed to drive a certain amount of hours a day and if dad is on a road where there is an accident and he gets stuck, he will run out of hours. If he takes a break right now he gains more hours and won't have to worry about running out. He's on his way to Oklahoma. He actually told mom that the snow looked pretty! Dad usually hates snow!
We are getting things ready for mom to start her workweek tonight and for Ian who starts his tomorrow. Hopefully Black Friday won't be too crazy. Mom just hopes everyone has a good time.
I hope your Thanksgiving is just perfect! I am thankful for your friendship and know how very blessed I am to have found such excellent friends here on the BC!

  Hello Kahlua~
I hope you are all having a wonderful day! It's still grey, wet and windy at my house! We have the fireplace on and it's very cozy inside! Mom tells me that if it were sunshine and warm all the time we wouldn't be able to use the fireplace!!
They had the first big snow up on the mountain today and it was a mess!! Snoqualmie pass is the main road between west and east out here and a lot of people use it. There were cars spinning all over the place! Some people didn't check the pass conditions before they went so they didn't have chains with them. Everyone who uses that road knows that you always check the pass conditions no matter what time of the year it is!
Mom is going to get the pantry straightened out today since it looks like something exploded in there!hehehehehe We have too much stuff and need to get some meals cooked. Mom only works 2 nights and then she'll be off 2 nights so we will have our Thanksgiving then. She got a ham and a turkey since they were great deals! Most stores don't do the cheap turkeys anymore but mom found one where she got the turkey for 48 cents a pound! I'm just looking forward to the corn bread! Maybe some pumpkin pie too!
You enjoy your day! Leaving a vote and a hug for you!

It is so dark out this morning... Mom is heading to the city for an appointment, and then will be coming home to spend time with us. She will be out of town this weekend, for a mini vacation. This is the first time she has gone anywhere in 3 years and she is excited. Dad will be taking over. Mom has been showing him the ropes, and we all promised to be really good, except for Pepper who always has something planned. See you later. Hugs from TiPaul

  Hi Kahlua
Sorry mom is not feeling up to par. It's hard for her, though, and I hope you and Tango understand. We all wish her luck in her job search. NC should be glad to get her, they are losing teachers right and left due to their low low wages.
If you want to see a story about the wildlife center and see some of the animals, go to WPXI.com and search for wildlife center. They ran a story last night on their Proud to be from Pittsburgh segment, and the trailer for it is on there, too. The trailer features Irwin the porcupine.
Mom went to the center today to clean and feed the RVS animals, since Jill and Bree are at a conference out of town where Jill is speaking. There are apparently no RVS certified people there on Saturdays and the new hires don't have their titers back yet. So, since we live so close, mom went up to do it. The bats ate like pigs! The raccoons outside were curious about a pumpkin that mom put in their cage for enrichment. The raccoon inside looks like he's feeling better, too. Mom checked on that pigeon from yesterday. He's in the recovery room getting tube fed, and she hopes he will recover.
Tonight is dinner and opera night! Mom will go to Nicky's Thai Kitchen for dinner, then to the Benedum Center to see Otello, by Verdi. It's going to be a good night out for her, but we will all be in lockdown.
Our weather is cold today, it was in the 20s overnight, and we don't think it will get above 45 or so today. I hope you are faring better, and getting some sun and maybe a warm breeze. Get lots of cuddles today, too! Hugs, Falco

  Hi, Kahlua
Mom and her coworkers were so busy they didn't really notice the time change but hopefully they all get paid for the correct number of hours they worked.

The bush nearest the window is beginning to flower and the hummingbirds are attracted to it. If we blink we miss 'em since they are so quick and seeing 'em hover is amazing.

Wow, the cost increased to more than double? Yikes! Good to get the free shipping no matter that it takes a lil longer to arrive.

Can well understand the worry about not being employed. Our dad went thru it. Mom's sis and hubby went thru it. Always nerve wracking, but things did eventually turn out okay.

We shall keep our wings crossed for her to figure out her health and find another job. Any of those tests would be scary to do. Our dad's had a few MRIs and have to stay very still and is cold in there. You and Tango must be certain to give her lots of parrot therapy whenever she's gone for anything medical. Pet love just can't be beat and having a routine of caring for you will keep her mind occupied. Hopefully, despite all that is going around her she can listen to the holiday music and the sights and let her worries fade for a lil while.

Oh, can't recall our FB name either. Mom'll have to go on there and find you. Not sure if we've friended you? If not, we'll send the request. We'll also try to find the pinterest page.

Have a greyt day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hello Kahlua~
I hope you are all having a wonderful day! I'm having fun so far!
It was stormy here all night but when we woke up this morning there was a rainbow outside the window! So very pretty and what a lovely thing to see at the start of the day! It didn't last very long but I hope all those people out in the busy morning traffic got to see it and I hope it brought a smile to their faces.
The last load of laundry is in the dryer. It's the towels mom uses on Mandy. She has become a pretty high maintenance dog lately but mom said that is to be expected with her age. She still eats like there is no tomorrow and still plays with her toys. The play time has to be gentle due to her physical limitations but she still enjoys it. Since she is 4 years past the life expectancy for her breed, we feel blessed to still have her in our lives. She and I have been together her entire life and even if I do still try to nip her if she gets too close, I love her!
Mom got a lot of fruit yesterday so I am having a fruit salad today. I got some peaches yesterday with my apple and they were good. No telling is I will decide to eat a banana today or not. Somedays I like them and others I do not! I like being contrary because that is what us birds do! It's good to keep the parronts guessing!hehehehehe
I do hope your day is just perfect! Stomping out a vote and sending hugs your way! I hope mom and Tango are both well and happy!

Last night, with the hanging of the clocks, things were all confusing in our home. We all wanted to eat at what seemed earlier than usual, but really it wasn't. Then, come bedtime, Marley kept saying hello and Mom finally took her out of the bird room and watched Rio 2 with her. It was funny - Marley danced when the birds in the movie danced. We could hear mom laughing. Tomorrow, Mom is taking her car to get it all ready for winter. She was going to last week, but the appointment was changed to this week. Have a good evening and see you tomorrow! hugs from TiPaul

  Hi Kahlua
Well, the Steelers are finally playing up to their potential! They soundly defeated the Ravens last night, and they looked fantastic doing it.
I have a bat story for you today: mom had fed the Big Brown bat in the RVS room on Friday and sealed his cage. Bree said he escaped either overnight, or in the morning when she went in to clean and feed him. This morning mom found him on the floor in the rat room,* cold, dehydrated, and looking almost dead. She picked him up, put him on the heating pad at the bottom of his cage, and finished with the raccoon in there and the other bat. Then she did her outdoor raccoon cages, and came back to see if he was okay. She took him out, he drank about 2ccs of water, then ate about half of what he usually does, and looked considerably better. Mom was so happy he ate and drank, she did her little happy dance right there in the RVS room!
*The rat room is where the center raises rats, mice, and mealworms, as well as any other live food they need (think goldfish for herons).
Anyway, the bat looks much improved, and mom said if they needed her, she'd go back later and try to feed him some more.
Tonight mom is going to meet her friends Gene (from Germany, he's here again), John, Frank, and Ginny. They will have dinner at the Casbah, which serves middle eastern food.
I hope you are having a good day and getting lots of special attention. Hugs, Falco

  Hi, Kahlua
Heard from a few birdies about the strong wind. Kacey was telling us that the news was advising that lil kids not be outside. Probably most adults wouldn't want to be outside either! Our temps are mid 60s and sunny so quite nicely fall. Just need more rain.

No such getting eggstra sleep for mom since she had to work overnight yesterday (Midnight to 8am and the puters all reset themselves back an hour. Mom and coworkers just hope they don't get shorted that hour!) It is big book time and had a lot of signs to put up.

Skinsis says it is often the older folk who make the nasty comments and in CA 16 and 17 year olds are able to work when they get the permit from their school. That's what mom's work has done though they haven't hired any minors for a few years. Think if your mom doesn't get eggcessive sun and takes care of her skin she can look young for a long, long time. Good genes also helps.

Our mom works mornings so never home to see GMA. Might have to try and catch it on her day off to see what Ginger Zee looks like. Getting opinions from others is a good idea as might get a suggestion wouldn't think of otherwise.

We're sure your mom'll come up with a good way for you and Tango to be able to see out the window. Saw a hummingbird out the living room window yesterday. Green with a red head and so tiny!

Have a great day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi, Kahlua
There were plenty of trick or treaters around here. Being down the street from the elementary school and being on the main road to the neighborhood is what does it. Dad enjoys sitting outside (there's a street light out front) and talking to the kids and parronts. There was leftover candy since dad didn't stay out as long as he normally does so mom probably will take it to work.

Had more rain yesterday morning. Was sunny by afternoon. Still, two days in a row of rain isn't bad and hope it means we'll have a steady amount and get out of this drought.

Think we've seen your mom's pic, long brown hair? Cannot tell she is only 5 feet tall - that's same height as our mom! When skinsis started working as a barista she'd often get asked her age or else she'd hear people say her employer shouldn't be hiring underage workers. Think she was 19 then. She's less than 5 feet and doesn't wear heels at work (standing all day) and has her hair up or pulled back. Now, if customers could see tattoos or piercings (most closed now) they'd know she wasn't under 18! Yes, not being taken seriously due to perceived youth and being attractive is unfair but what can one do? Just have to do best work and remain professional at all times.

Mom saw something in a catalog or birdie mag that attaches to a window. Has a perch for birds to sit on. Might've been suction cup? Never bought it as wondered about it staying put. Are the sparrows obeying you yet?

Have a greyt day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

Come visit me, Pearl & Silver.

  Hi Kahlua
It's true, birds are intuitive. If mom is pretending to be upbeat, but feels differently, you and Tango will pick up on that.
Yesterday in the rain, mom led a group of scouts on a tour through the wildlife center. It was difficult, there were as many adults as children, but the adults didn't keep control of the little ones. Still, mom got through it, and got home a little chilled, but glad to be done.
Later, Bree came and did nails on everybirdie. Willie, as usual, was a drama king. Peppino took a little flight around the house before he got toweled and trimmed. I was a lady about it. Mom checked my side, which is fine. I'm growing in feathers there, now, YAY.
It's cold here today, about mid 30s so far. The Steelers play tonight, so we know where mom will be. I hope you are having a great day and getting some sun and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

  Hello Kahlua~
I hope you are having a wonderful day! Happy November!
For the 9th year in a row, no one came to trick or treat! Mom is so disappointed! Maybe next year!
Mom and the kids went to the mall in the afternoon. Mom did her walk while the kids were at Gamestop. There were a few people dressed up so that was cool!
Dad delivered locally so he got to come home over night. They went to have dinner at the Mexican restaurant down the street and everyone there was dressed up. Their waiter was dressed as Chumbly from Pawn Stars and some of the people there had the Dia de Los Muertos face painting! It was awesome! There was a lady having dinner there with her family and she was dressed as Tinkerbell! She did the costume herself and even had her hair pinned up the way Tinkerbell does! Her little girl was Cinderella but they made her take the costume off while she ate! Probably a good idea!
Thank you to every bird for the BOTD on the Calendar Page! We are so honored and appreciate it so very much!!
I hope your day is just perfect! Leaving a vote and a big hugs for you, Tango and mom!

  Hi Kahlua
That is cute! Giz learned new words quickly when he was here. It takes the rest of us some time, but we do learn them.
I'm so glad the doc didn't break mom's confidence. It's important to know he's on her side. Good luck with the biopsy, too.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBIRDIE!
Mom cleaned the RVS room again today, and fed that little bat. She thinks they will have another bat by Monday. Someone called from Laurel Caverns to report a bat with a broken wing, so Jill will go to meet it tomorrow and see if we can help it. They are so precious and important to our lives all over the world. Did you know there are about 8000 kinds of mammals, and bat species make up over 2000 of them? That's right, a quarter of the mammal species on earth are types of bats. They help to keep insect populations down, pollinate some foods, and spread seeds from some fruits, depending on the species.
Okay, that's enough of the teaching moment, Bats are spooky, ooky, and have a ton of old wives tales around them, too. Let's debunk a couple of them. They will never fly into your hair, unless you are harboring bugs in it. Bats use their eyes and echolocation, so they avoid things like hair and bumping into trees. They are not blind, either, most can see as well as humans can at night. One cautionary note, bats are rabies vector species, so if you come into contact with one, be careful not to touch it with bare hands.

  HiKahlua... TiPaul here
Mom has a party tonight, so she won't be giving out goodies to the little ones on the bus that goes around our village from house to house She will sign up again next year. She stayed home yesterday, and rebuild one of our big swings that hangs from the ceiling in the bird room. She took it down, just before lights out, and this morning, came in with it looking brand new, with new wood pieces and cord... until we all chew it up again. Have a fun time and don't get too scared. Stop by and visit. hugs from TiPaul.

  Hi, Kahlua
Skinsis says the class is a mixture of ages. Think 5-10 year olds? Something like that. No more than 10 total in the hour class. Says they can be a handful eggspecially when she is less than 5 feet tall, slender and often still mistaken for being a teen. She does dress professionally, wears make up and puts her hair up to look older. At any rate only has two more to teach and know she's glad of that as she is already working up to 5 days a week at her regular job.

Temps went down for us yesterday since rain is coming. Supposed to be mostly during the day so less chance of it falling during trick or treat time. Possible flurries for your area? Yikes!

Did the sparrows come back when you yelled at 'em? Not that we think sparrows would obey, heehee. Must have strange window there. Ours has a sill no matter what. Fun to look outside.

Let us know if your mom is able to get more animated Tango on video and posted to FB since we don't get on much. If on BC we aren't able to view it for some reason and don't know if they got it put back up anyway.

So awesome of your mom to finally lose the weight when the gain was partly due to medication issues. A bit of candy in moderation is perfectly acceptable but can hear the dentist now...glad us birds have no teeth! The trick is to make it last longer than a couple of days, heehee. Savor it.

Thanks for liking the name of the grand. Think skinsis pick a short name since hers is so long, heehee.

Have a great day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Kahlua
Mom is more into fiction, she's a learner too, but she's been doing online free courses through Coursera.com, so she's reading more junk than real books. That doctor was wrong, patient confidentiality is real, and he shouldn't be sharing info with anyone but your mom unless she expressly designates someone else.
I think fall is officially here. The yard looked so nice on Monday when the guys finished, but now it looks like it hasn't been touched, maybe for years! Mom is ankle deep in leaves on the driveway as well.
Today mom had a tour in animal adaptations. Normally this is a fun tour, but these little ones were 5, and home schooled, so they had no social skills at all, and couldn't stay still in front of some of the exhibits. Mom did her best, and thinks at least some of them got something out of the tour. They touched a bunch of animal skins and did some hunting in the dioramas to find little or unusual things.
After the tour mom stopped at Trader Joe's to pick up a little lunch, and did more than that. They had some pretty good things at good prices, though. Now she's ours for the day! Of course, since garbage goes out tonight, she will do another cage scrub, but other than that, we will have her to play on for the day. Hope you are having a fun day yourself, and getting lots of scritches and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

  Hi, Kahlua
Mom'll babysit Fri afternoon while skinsis is teaching a class. Skinsis hubby business is after school science based classes and the teacher he'd lined up for Fri had a conflict so skinsis has to fill in. She was not happy about it but after this Fri only has to fill in for one more. BTW, baby's name is Jade.

Supposed to be cool for our Halloween too. Might rain but we hope it holds off or isn't too heavy. Mom remembers a couple of Halloweens with skinsis having to hold an umbrella and know there's been cold ones and warm ones too. It was warm yesterday, low 80s so had the front door open and let the fresh air in thru the metal screen door.

The candy around here is hidden so dad doesn't get into it. Mom also buys partly types no one like so less likely to eat it. Skinsis says that her candy stash is a lil less too but they don't anticipate many visits since they are in an apartment complex.

Parronts always tell us not to wall chew. Something about paint not being food. Good your mom is being vigilant and taking precautions to keep Gpas house safe from beaks.

Okay, if that was a mellow Tango can only imagine her more animated and vocal.

Have a great day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Kahlua
Mom is an eclectic reader, so if we know what kinds of books your mom reads, maybe we can send a few her way. Mom is always glad to share. She doesn't read sci fi often, and never reads romances, so they're out, but others? Let us know!
Yesterday mom went out with her sister to Barnes and Noble, she got 2 ebooks for $6.99 each, including the new Anne Rice! She also bought other books, of course, because it's never enough with her! They had sandwiches instead of whole dinners, then came home where we had mom for the rest of the night. Today she's going to get a haircut, then pick up that lamp. Remember that lamp? Well, it isn't the cord, the store called and said they can't repair it. She will talk to the guy today and see what's wrong. If it's a matter of finding a lamp repair place, she will give it a shot, because it's an Ott light, not cheap!
It's gotten a lot cooler and really cloudy today, temps are going to be in the 50s. Yesterday it was around 80 and gorgeous. Oh well, it IS fall, after all.
I hope you are having a good day and getting snuggles and kisses. Hugs, Falco

  Hi, Kahlua
Our mom needs to call her sis to ask about seeing those pics. Skinsis needs to get her hubby to nudge his gpa for those pics. Mom spent a lil bit of time with the grand yesterday after skinsis called and asked her to come over so the laundry and dishes could be caught upon. Furball was quite eggcited to see her but eventually calmed down.

Hmmmm, wonder if Cookie is just a more 'manly' bird despite his size? We know other 'tiels love to chew up toys but like you we prefer paper or softer things. (We have chewed on wood, mom's armoire for one - not our fault! Our birdhouse was pushed too close and we leaned over and...Fortunately, we never had opportunity to peck anything our dad made in his woodshop, whew!)

Funny how parronts think they can fool us like your mom giving you the empty highlighters.

Think we saw the video on FB on one rare occasion we went there. Think she was on the bed tossing toys out of the box and so many of 'em too! Could tell how much fun it was but always fun to fling things around.

Have to agree that number one should be us fids but know that parronts have other things to do occasionally. Awesome to have the window open.

Have a greyt day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Kahlua
Mom does the same thing with TV, she records it all, then watches it later. That way she can FF through commercials, boring parts, etc, and can see an hour show in about 40 minutes. Not that there's much worth watching.
Mom loves bats, isn't scared at all of them, and knows how important they are to the environment, but she still can't figure out how they stuff so much food into such a tiny body.
It's a beautiful day today, when mom walked the dogs she got too warm in her jeans and came home to change into shorts. She is still wearing her squirrel whisperer tee, though, in honor of squirrels this month. Later today, mom will go out with her sister for a late lunch and a little shopping. Both of them got Barnes and Noble coupons in the mail, and since that's one of their favorite stores, they will go there, and maybe a few other places as well.
We need to have our cages scrubbed today, according to mom, so that means we'll be spending time rearranging things to our liking.
Mom got a pomegranate and cut into it today. It's too bad I won't eat it, Willie, Maxine, and Peppino dove right into their portions! (That's one of the reasons for the scrub down today, heehee.)
I hope you are enjoying some good weather today, and getting lots of scritches and cuddles, too. Hugs, Falco

  Hi, Kahlua
Skinsis was the same as your mom. Didn't really care if there was a ceremony or not but he wanted it. Think they put it together in a couple or three months time. Lots of stuff was down to the wire, but it all came together though still need to see all the pics others took. A week or two before the big day mom and skinsis were shopping at Target and mom asked what the baby was wearing and they found something there. Not sure if anyone took a pic of the baby but certainly everyone wanted to hold her!

Think your mom sharing her life with you and Tango is good. Be different if she was all alone and just looking for someone for all the wrong reasons.

Sometimes mom'll have a bit of tissue or piece of paper nearby for us to 'discover' and play with. We aren't big on toys like you bigger birds but do love to peck at magazines, newspaper, paperbacks from the library (that's a no-no by the way and we only did it a couple of times, honest! Was on the back so not as noticeable...) and dropping things on the floor is always fun. Think mom saw a video of one of you playing and tossing toys around. Maybe it was rummaging in the toybox, maybe it was another fid, not sure but it was a 'too or a grey!

Think the Milongas are always on Sat. Other events could be on other days and times.

Have a greyt day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hi Kahlua
Sorry you missed the milonga. They are always on Saturdays, I think. Hope your mom gets a resolution, that's ridiculous!
What a football game yesterday! It was a real quarterback battle, and the Steelers tried to give it away in the second half, but they ultimately prevailed. Mom doesn't remember seeing such a high scoring pro game ever.
Today at the center, mom did all the RVS animals, because she was the only RVS person on the schedule for the day. She cleaned the outdoor raccoon cages, then went in to find the bat. At first she didn't see it, she peeked under the towels hanging from the sides of its terrarium and it wasn't there. Then she took out the tiny lid that was in the bottom of the cage with water in it. She was a little worried that the bat had escaped at this point. When she removed the water, she noticed a tiny lump in the towel at the bottom of the cage. She lifted it carefully, and the bat was there. It was laying directly on the heating pad, so the poor little one must have been cold last night. There was a frost here, but the furnace at the center usually kicks on. Maybe the heat didn't extend into the RVS room, or the bat just needed some extra heat. Anyway, it took a bit of effort to get it to start eating, but once it got started, it ate 20 mealworms. It's hard to imagine, but mom thinks with 20 mealworms you could probably construct a whole bat, so she doesn't know where the bat puts all that food. Maybe they have hollow legs or something, heehee.
If you think we birds eat a lot, you haven't seen bats eat.
After the center, mom mailed a package, then got gas and went shopping for a little lunch. Now she's home with us, and we get to blog. It's another beautiful day here, crisp and cool, but sunny. The lawn guys came today and cleaned up all the leaves, so the lawn looks as nice as the gardens do now.
I hope you are having a good day, getting some sunshine and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

  Hi, Kahlua
Skinsis and hubby did all the wedding planning themselves. They aren't affiliated with a church so it was a greyt idea to have it outdoors. They asked their friend to officiate since he's part of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. He wore his kilt and combat boots. The location apparently has lots of weddings and they were advised that thru Oct weather would be good but Nov or later is iffy so it was a lil sooner than they wanted so had to scramble a bit to get everything done. The baby behaved wonderfully well for a 3 month old. Of course, someone was holding her the entire time. Skinsis was having trouble keep track of where her baby was.

Our mom got married in a Jan. Although in CA it was sunny, but breezy so probably strapless wouldn't have been good though wasn't the fashion 25 years ago either.

There's someone out there for your mom. And that will adore you fids. It'll be when she isn't looking. Hear about people finding love at all ages. From teens into their 80s and 90s. Just never know when one will find it.

We enjoy just sitting with mom. We'll groom ourselves or wander over the couch arm or climb to the top. Sometimes if she's not looking we'll jump to the floor, but always get retrieved before we can do much.

  Hi, Kahlua
Skinsis wedding was at a state park in the mountains with lots of redwoods. Weather was perfect even though everyone had to endure an hours drive on windy roads to get there! Mom's sis took pics but haven't seen 'em yet. Groom's gpa also took pics but haven't seen those either.

We understand about being gluten free. Mom's family has allergy issues. Her brother can only have corn and rye as far as grains go, no wheat, no rice. The thing with cupcakes is they tend to disappear a lot faster than they can go bad, heehee.

The parronts are thrilled skinsis finally got married (baby is almost 4 months old now) and she's working and new hubby is working and finally found a place they can have furball live with 'em.

All the weather gals seems to always be very attractive. Always fun to see wedding dresses but the whole strapless trend is not something our mom would've ever worn!

Don't you look adorable in your costume! Wow, mom sure has a run with the docs, that's too bad. It's awful when the doc doesn't do right with the codes, either, it's just another way to stress out the patient!
Wow, that was an expensive shipment, for that they should have driven the phone to mom. We were under the impression the hotel was taking care of everything, didn't know they were billing your mom. Of course, we should have thought that would happen. I bet mom and Aunt Jane could have given it to Donna or Therese to mail priority and it would have been much cheaper. That's terrible! For that amount of money they could have hired a messenger. Okay, enough ranting. Mom is really upset because she just knows they could have done it another way, especially since it was not done overnight like the hotel said it would be.
I hope you, Tango, and mom can make it to the milonga tonight, it should be a lot of fun. Hugs, Falco

  Hello Kahlua~
I hope you are having a wonderful day!
The new computer is up and running. Dad put Window 8 on it so mom is scrolling around like a lost puppy!! She has pretty much figured our how to get to where she wants to go so that is all that matters. The living room still looks like we've been robbed but mom and I will be working on that today. At least we now have a computer that will not keep shutting down and I can get around the BC more!
I left the room when dad was building it because there was just too much stuff and I was getting very upset! He shoved the old computer and monitor in front of my playcage!! That was the last straw so I went to climb around my night cage and clear the dresser off for mom! I even shoved my Hello Kitty lunch boxes off! I know it was a big help!
Mom's uncle does Ancestry research and someone sent him pictures of the graves of mom's Great Grandma and Grandpa. They are in upstate New York by Medina. Mom went there when she was a little kid but doesn't really remember much. It was very cool to see it now though.
We hope your mom is doing well! We sure did enjoy seeing the pictures from the Palooza! Your mom is so pretty and it's very cool that she got to meet all those CBL's! Sure wish we could have gone!
I hope you enjoy your day! I'm off to help clean the living room up! We can't even turn the fireplace on at the moment because of all the stuff that is in front of it! It has gotten colder here in the last few days so we might actually need it!!
Stomping out a vote and sending hugs your way!

  Hi Kahlua
Mom did the RVS room today, but there was only a bat in there. The raccoons were moved outside, where mom cleaned their cages and fed them. They are much easier to deal with outside since the staff decided the best way to handle them indoors was to scruff them to move them. They said it's more sanitary than using a towel. Mom doesn't feel comfortable scruffing large raccoons, so doing the RVS room the past couple of times has been trying. However, they are easy to deal with outdoors, because they don't have to be moved, mom can clean around them.
After leaving the center, mom went to Radio Shack to buy a new phone, as her present one isn't holding a charge for long. Long story short, Virgin Mobile wanted her pin, which she had no idea about, so she had to come home for a few hours. They locked her account, and she can't get into it. She gave them all the other info, and they changed her pin to something she'll remember, but wouldn't let her in to transfer data from the old phone to the new one. She will be making a second trip today to do that. The nice young man at Radio Shack told her to come back in a couple of hours.
Yesterday, mom got all the peony bushes cut back, and one of the roses pruned. There is more work to do on the roses, which might happen today. She is borrowing a wheelbarrow from a neighbor to haul the cut greens to the hillside. She will toss it all down the cliff and let it compost there. It might provide hide spaces for some critters, too.
I hope you are having a good day today, getting some sunshine and lots of love. Hugs, Falco

  Hi Kahlua
We certainly support your mom and you, too. It's funny how you love Bumbles, and Tango doesn't much like him at all. That happens in flocks, I guess. I used to go to Peppino's cage and stare in at him when he first came, but now I'm okay with him being here. Mom thought it was because he was in Gizmo's cage, and I was looking for Giz.
Yesterday after mom did some of that yard cleanup, she played with us and did a light cleaning of the cages. Today is a major scrub down, though, so we will all have to rearrange our stuff after she's done. I didn't stay with mom for long yesterday, I was more interested in cuddling with the rope wreath on top of my cage. Willie won the prize for being the most clingy yesterday. He stayed with mom a long time, trying to decorate her tee by making it lacy, then trying out her shirt buttons, too. He preened her hair for awhile then he got bored and went back to his pinata. Peppino is being shy again, so mom isn't forcing him to come with her, but because of past experience, she knows he'll be with her before long. We are all thinking that Bree will be by to trim our nails before long, at least that's what mom is saying.
I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of scritchies and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

  Hi Kahlua
It's tough when changes occur, both for birds and people. I know you miss Bumbles, too. It has to be as hard on him, as I bet he misses you as well.
Mom is young, and has some options open. Moving would probably be a last resort, though. We wish we could do something to help out.
Today is a pretty lazy day for all of us. Mom got her nails done, then came home to be with us. She carried in the African violets a while back because of the weather, so today she's closing the fountain, bringing in the rest of the house plants, and maybe planting the amaryllis and paper whites her friend left for her. There is still a Boston fern outside, as well as a succulent dish garden. We hope they have both survived the chilly nights lately. If not, well, there's always the nursery next year.
I hope you are having a good day today, and getting lots of sun, cuddles, and kisses. Hugs, Falco

The opera gala last night was wonderful, too bad it couldn't have lasted longer. Mom did hear lots of arias, duets, and ensembles that she loves, and they did a bit of operetta as well.
Mom's tour with college students turned out to be fun yesterday, and they wanted Dinosaur hall, which she loves. Today mom has 2 tours at the museum with West Virginia University students. Do you think she's trying to avoid the football game? I sure do. She got very upset with the team's loss last week, even though she didn't see the game.

  Hi Kahlua
Bumbles and you look like you're having too much fun! Mom loved meeting everyone, too, and hopes to do it again next year. We don't know if Aunt Jane will want to make that drive again, though. Mom says she's glad the phone finally got back to your mom, but they said at the hotel they would overnight it, so we thought it should have been back on Monday!
Mom put away most of the stuff from Parrot Palooza. She gave each of us a new toy, and Maxine got a new perch, but the rest of the stuff got put up. I suspect we'll see it a little at a time. Mom was pleased to find greeting cards there with birds, too.
Yesterday after mom planted all the bulbs, the irises, and the rudbeckia, she thought she was done. Later, when she went out to get the mail, she noticed that our neighbor Jeff had left more things to plant on the shelf by the door! It was all indoor stuff, though, 2 amaryllis bulbs and some narcissus.
Today at the center, mom went into the RVS room and saw a cage standing open. She went to get Bree, and they looked all over the room for the missing raccoon. They couldn't find him, so mom took his chart to the front, entered today as his self release day into the computer, and put the chart in a drawer for filing. She then helped a new person catch a squirrel who had gotten loose. When she went back to the RVS room the raccoon was on the bank of cages staring at her! She got Bree, and the two of them captured the little bugger and put him in a carrier until his cage was done. Mom put a carabiner on the cage to prevent him from opening it again. There were other raccoons and a bat in there today, so it took the rest of her time to clean them, feed them, and finally she emptied the dryer, reloaded it, loaded up the washer, and started a load. Now she's ours for the day! I think she's still catching up with some reading on the Nook, before she starts another real book. Tomorrow is the museum, the opera, and dinner out, so we have to take advantage of today.
I hope you are having a fine fall day, not too cold and rainy. I also hope you are getting lots of scritchies and kisses today. Hugs, Falco

  Hi Kahlua
Mom taught mostly 4 and 5, but was certified K to 8. Her last couple of years, except for the last one, were in 3. She often taught science when the district departmentalized 4 to 6 every few years, but mostly was self contained.
It was such a pleasure to meet your mom! Mine said it was so much fun.
Last week Aunt Jane drove here from Michigan and picked up mom and off they went! Bree stayed with us and did a great job.
Now mom is back from New Jersey and Parrot Palooza. She had a great time, meeting all the bird moms and having a lot of time to visit and talk with them, although at times, it was kind of like the milonga, she couldn't get a word in edgewise, heehee. It was super to see a lot of the folks we just talk with online. The only thing that would have made it better would have been for us parrots to go to Parrot Palooza!
Mom carried a bag with parrots painted on it, and wore all her parrot jewelry. They shopped on Friday and more on Saturday. They saw a parrot show on Saturday, mom won a prize in one of the penguin races, and made a toy for us as well. Sunday was a quieter day. Aunts Donna and Therese invited everyone for brunch, and they made a day of it, visiting and talking, then went out to dinner together, too. Sheesh, you'd think they'd have had enough, right? But no, mom loved every minute of it, and wished it could have lasted longer.
In my pics you can see the loot in 3 pics! The one with the bird mom tee is Aunt Jane's pile, the other 2 piles are ours. The other pics show a sign welcoming BC people to the Palooza (WOW) and a group shot in back of the sign. On Willie's page are a Java tree stand with carved parrots on it, a different group shot, and mom with a Moluccan 'too named Pearl. On Peppino's page there are some pics of Aunts Therese, Eva, and Donna; Robin, Jane, Deb, and Eva; and Cindy with her new tiel.
