My mother was working in a Vterinarian's office and one day a woman and her young daughter brought Gladys in. They said they had just been at the public library and they spotted her walking around in the parking lot and when they approached her she ran right up to them and climbed on! The tmiing could not have been more fitting; Kramer, the Normal Gray cockatiel I grew up with had just died at 12 years old. It was incredibly sad because when we took him to the vet the day he started seeming sick, we were given a rude our shock (we have always owned lots of dogs and are huge animal lovers),for the last 12 years my mother and I had been completely ignorant bird owners. We were basically doing absolutely everything as wrong as it could be, and we had NO CLUE. As this vet was explaining this to us, Kramer died in her hands. My mother and I cried for weeks. It was truly traumatic. So when these people brought Gladys in to my mother's clinic, she instantly knew she was going to bring her home for me. This was going to be my chance to make it up to Kramer, and at the same time, offer an out of luck bird a loving home. At first, I did not share my mother's enthusiasm. I was terrified. I did not want to screw her up, but I was afraid I would accidentally manage to do it anyway. Within a few weeks though, I was in love. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me. The light of my life. Words that could explain my love for her truly do not exist.. Awards

Hi! My name is Gladys

I am a Normal grey Cockatiel from Newnan, GA.

Normal grey Cockatiel

I buy all LeFebre's cockatiel food products and nothing that is not LeFebre's. So she likes their regular pellet diet, Nutri-Berries, Pellet-Berries, Avi-Cakes,. ..all flavors of all of those...and the Popcorn snack thingys, anddd any I may be forgetting, but I believe that is all.

LOL. Again, the top of her cage, the top of my roommate's male Pearl cockatiel's cage, on me, or on that blasted ceiling fan.

being touched/"loved on" in any way, ever, with the exception of a four second span of time beginning the moment I first pick her up, being acknowledged within 15 minutes of waking up in the morning, spray showers/any showers/water for any purpose other than drinking, toys/items in her cage that are not intended for her to eat or stand on...starting to get the picture? Haha, she is completely insane. But she adores me, in her own strange way, and I wouldn't trade her for the world.

Oh baby is such a nut, I'm not even gonna attempt to tackle this one...who even knows what tat crazy lady thinks

I feel like I pretty much answered this in the last question. To add to it though, hmmm...aside from her regular pellet/Nutri-Be- rry/Avi-Cakes diet, she will not, under any circumstances, eat ANY food I attempt to give her. However, anything she sees ME eating, she MUST have. She particularly enjoys flapping around in my cereal bowl. I don't let her eat/drink it because that is bad for her health, but she has a blast just splashing around making a mess of it. Same goes for toys...she won't go near any toy I try to give her. She just hisses at it a lot and becomes terrified in general. Whether I put it in her cage or give it to her while she is out. Even if I start out putting it kind of near her cage and move it closer every few days to get her familiar with it...she will not have it. However, anything she sees ME involving myself with, she MUST have. She could chew my bra strap for days. and all my shirts for that matter. It is so absurd that if I am writing on a piece of notebook paper she is determined to rip it to pieces, so I will get out another sheet of paper for her to have and even act like it is intended for me, to make her want it...but somehow she knows...she still only wants the one that I need. That is good enough for now. Oh, she also spends a significant portion of her day sitting on the ceiling fan (I don't allow it to be turned on, obviously). She has horrible flight control, and the way my room is set up, she either wants to play on top of her cage, fly to my roommate's male Pearl cockatiel's cage (who I have temporarily adopted) and hang out on it, or fly over to me and hang out with me. But mid flight she chokes and feels like she can't nail the landing, so over and over, when this happens, she ends up defecting to the ceiling fan. Then she will sit up there and concentrate on her destination for a pretty long time, finally try again, get scared of landing, and back to the fan she goes. It is sweet but sometimes it is just pitiful so even though I want to encourage her to learn to fly on her own, sometimes I end up giving her rides..
