We saw our birds on craigslist and went to see them. They were super sad and not taken care of. We left went to dinner and prayed about it. The birds stayed on my mind. We decided the next day we would call the lady back and buy both birds. They hadn't been out of their cage in 6 years. They had no toys hanging in their cage! It was so sad. The cage was very dirty. After many prayers at 930 pm our phone started ringing the lady called and said she would sale us both African greys (timneh and congo) and the cage for the price of one. The birds hissed and couldn't be handled at all. They have feathers missing but despite their condition we went back on the road for a 6 hour trip a and got the birds. They are now on a road to recovery. We are working with them everyday. They still bite and are afraid of everything. However, they seem much happier and they have toys now. And, their previous owner says she is amazed at how different they are acting at our house. We have set up their first vet visit ever. It will be Friday. We have separated them due to the fact that the congo has plucked the timneh's head hair completely off. She seems much happier in her own cage. This is our story....

  To the rescue
What a sad situation and there are so many stories like yours about the poor and inhumane treatment of birds, and all types of pets. I wish you well in rehabbing these wonderful birds. I will pray for you all.
regards/janet and (Kona Lani 2 yr old parrotlet who also
was neglected and unwanted when I rescued her.)

  Hi There!
Welcome to Bird Channel.
We voted for you today. Please check us out too.
Cheeky came from a pet store (that was before Mom knew better) and PeeWee was just adopted last month from The Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary (M.A.R.S) in Melbourne Beach FL. Our Mom volunteers there now. Some of our friends there including PeeWee had really unhappy lives before they came to live at M.A.R.S. We are SOOOOOOOOOOO happy you found a new forever home!!!!!
It is very important to keep spreading the word about the abuse and neglect of parrots. Even owners who love their pets can inadvertently cause them harm. We are so sad to hear that you lived in a dirty cage for 6 years. We only go in our cages at night to sleep and sometimes for a "Time Out" when we are naughty. We would love to hear more about your new life. Your story may help educate other Bird parents as well.

Please join M.A.R.S. on facebook and post updates for us or contact M.A.R.S through the website.
