Sassy has come a long way, just uploaded some new pictures to show off how many feathers have returned!! Sassy loves to dance to Michael Jackson and she counts to 10! She really has a ton of personality! Her funniest thing is she calls the dogs and then tell them to sit :).

  Hi Sassy,

It's your Friend, Oz. IF you are talking you are getting settled into your new home and are feeling less stressed. That's wonderful to hear. I get a little nervous around alot of people but I just stay in my Avian Accent Cage (furniture really) and kind of mind my own business. But if someone comes near me and says Hello, I will say Hello if I'm comfortable with them. I don't say a lot of words but my Brother, Parker who is an English Budgie says like 40 words and phrases. He says things like Whatchadoing, Where's the Bird, Peek A Boo, I See You, Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday, Happy Easter, We're Off To See The Wizard (he actually whistles that one also LOL), etc. Oh his latest phrase is We Are Siamese If You Please LOL. Mommy just taught him that. She has 2 Siamese named Koda & Marcus. Some of the stuff that Parker says, Mom never even taught him LOL. Anyway, I'm so happy that you are adjusting to your new surroundings. How is the other African Grey doing? Keep in touch when you can. Here's a vote for you. Bye for now.

P.S. I don't like to go to the Vet's either or the Bird Store because they do my grooming. But sometimes we don't have a choice.

  Hi Sassy,

It's your Friend, Oz. How are you making out in your new home? It may take some time but I think you're gonna like it there just like I do in my now Forever Home. Oh Mommy said to tell you she is using a product called "Soother Topical Spray" by Avi Heal and it does have pure Aloe Vera in it. Also, Parrots like me (Cockatoos) Cockatiels and African Greys do have a lot of dander. So it's good to spray us down, give us a shower or let us take baths. Mommy sprays me every other day but it couldn't hurt to spray us just about everyday either with warm water, bird baths, Soother Topical Spray and Mom also uses Cockatoo Bath Spray to help keep down the dander (powder like dust). You don't need to soak us although some of us like it. Good luck and please let us know how you make out. Also, Sky's Mom is great to listen to with all her experience. But it's good that you're taking them to an Avian Vet as they should really be able to help you out with any health issues you may face.

  Hi Sassy
Welcome to BC. I am happy to see you are settling in well in your new home. Changing homes can be pretty scary. I see you are a plucker. Parrots pluck for so many reasons like Oz said.
Things to check for are; what diet did you eat prior to moving? Some birds can not eat certain brands--have allergies to certain ingredients.
A visit to an avian Vet is a good idea because often times the problem is illness. Birds develop skin conditions such as fungus that leads to plucking.
Boredom can also be a cause. Some parrots need a lot to do to keep them happy--foraging toys, grooming toys, boxes to rip up, etc etc
I'm here to welcome you, but if you need any help see my Momma she knows quite a bit about birds after 35+ years raising them. But some birdies like our Little Angel just developed a stress related behavior that has remained years later.
yours SKY

  Hi Sassy,

Welcome to Bird Channel. Good luck with your new Mom & Dad. It's Oz, the Rose Breasted Cockatoo. Mommy is my 3rd owner and she says that I'm now in my Forever Home. My Mommy was finally able to get on Bird Channel this afternoon but stills gets squawked off every so often. She's trying really hard to keep her cool and stay here. We don't want her to leave here cause we have to many Friends. Don't worry we won't let her leave LOL. Here's a vote for you. Bye for now.

P.S. This is to your Mom. Mommy says there are so many reason why some Birds/Parrots pluck their feathers. They can be stressed, upset about something, new surroundings and even a new pc. of furniture or something different in the room, illness and sometimes we don't really know why they do it. Believe it or not some of them just get use to doing it or just like to do it. Years ago my Mom had a Parrot that use to pluck and she used a spray called "Pluck No More". It did help a little bit but not 100%. Mommy is not at her home right now but will be tomorrow. I did pull a couple of feathers out and she is using something else on me but can't remember the name of it. She will try to remember to get back to you tomorrow or Monday with the name of it. Their is really no cure but some products seem to work better than others. IF you have an Avian Vet, he or she may be able to help you also. Good Luck. Also, lots of luck with your new additions.
