  Hi Flitzer
Well, another pleasant day here today, although it once again started out totally overcast. That had burned off by 11 or so, and by noon it was just right for a sunbath. Of course, it was 12:30 before Mom managed to get me out there. I had to play hard to get for a bit first. It was about 72 degrees, so Mom even sat in the sun with me for the whole time.

Then we came inside and Mom made a protein fruit smoothie for her lunch. I do like those, but it annoys my mom that I would prefer to drink it from her mouth than the glass. Doesn't she understand it tastes better that way?

It being Monday, I have Mom for the whole day! She did help her friend edit a paper, but it was only a 2 pager, so that didn't take very long. The rest of the day is mine, all mine!

Don't forget to vote for your favorite hat. The competition is really heating up, and the voting ends on Thursday at midnight EDT!

  Hi Flitzer
We love your story.
Today mom was supposed to have a trainee at the center, but she never showed up, so mom did the RVS room again. There were about 8 baby raccoons in there, the adult raccoon and ground hog, 8 bats, and a baby red fox. It was so cute, but really scared, too. Mom was extra gentle with it, and after she had fed it, one of the staff came in to get it for a trip to the vet. Usually at the center, the staff handles all the animals' needs, so this little one must have had something wrong to require a trip to the vet. Anyway, the RVS room is an old story by now.
Mom stopped at the grocery store to pick up some fresh veggies and fruits for us on the way home, then the lazy slug sat out in the warm weather for about an hour. She did not take us out, said it was already too warm, but she sat there and read!
I hope you are having a fabulous day and getting lots of sun, cuddles, and scritches. Hugs, Peppino

This morning was a bright warm sunny day here and the highs for the day will be 68 with the lows of 54 and right now its 63!Mom got us all up,fed and cleaned our cages, swept our room and then got all the sheets and some of the laundry in the washer, when it was done she went outside and hung it all on the line and she is starting her second load of wash now, waiting for it to get done, she did the couch cover and is hoping to have enough room on the lines out back to hang all that load of wash up also, with all the big things, king sized sheets and a queen comforter, she's running out of room fast! She only has 6 6foot long lines that are 6 feet high and those big things sure take up lots of room! Its so warm out there and Mom promises us that as soon as she gets done with the washing and some of the house chores she'll get us all outside today! We just can't wait!Who knows if it'll change back to the cold again by tomorrow like it usually does!We may be able to get out for a stroller ride with Mom too!Now that would be so much fun!

  Hi Flitzer
Good Monday morning to all my BC friends and their awesome Parronts. Your blogs are amazing, they bring tears and smiles of joy as you share your thoughts and opinions with everyone. I love reading them and I am keeping them on file as they are that inspiring. I truly hope everyone is taking the time to read the blogs. They are so filled with honesty, open thoughts and powerful ideas. Certainly in the end we all will be empowered to become Ambassadors for Companion Parrots. Some very intense facts are being brought up that can help bring about a change. Most agree that the weight of responsibility should fall upon the shoulders of the breeders who produce the innocent chicks who may one day be abandoned on the doorstep of a Parrot Rescue.
As many as there are involved in the breeding of Parrots, we must not loose sight of the truth that there are some really great, very knowledgeable and devoted individuals selling baby Parrots. As with anything that involves the potential to make money, the bad often takes the lime-light over the good. Research has revealed that some of the worse offenders are not "back-yard" breeders but facilities owned by Nationally known Parrot food producers. My research has shown that the average "breeder" becomes involved as a hobbyist and remains involved for an average of five to seven years. There remainder make up two very different groups. Group one, a smaller group are those who are devoted to their Parrots, spending money on quality foods, correct caging and Veterinarian care. They make little if any profit and are motivated by their love of the birds, and a desire to create awesome companions. The educate buyers, and will take back any unwanted bird at any point in their lives. Sadly, the second Group makes up the "commercial" breeders. Budgies are often reared in large pens where babies are netted out at predetermined periods. Large Parrots are kept in pens with little to do besides reproduce. Cockatoo males often become so stressed they maul or kill their mates, something unheard of in the wild. To stop this, beak mutilation is used to remove the powerful bite potential. When someone is willing to keep their Parrots in these conditions how willing will they be to educate owners? Stiffer control laws employed by Governments may correct the over-breeding and abuse, but they must be enforced to do anything to help the problem.
Stores should be required to provide "per-purchase" classes for new owners. How many Pet Store staffers actually know much about the birds they sell?
NOW FOR TODAY'S QUESTION; Do you think making and enforcing laws for "breeder-facilities" would help the problem of unwanted Parrots? Would it be " feasible" to require ALL PET STORES that sell Companion Parrots to HAVE to provide MANDATORY per-purchase educational classes? Should those involved with the sale of Companion Parrots be required by law to take classes or do a written test to show they are knowledgeable about them?

  Hi Flitzer
It's Sawyer.
Yesterday here was a real nice day. A little cloudy in the morning but nice and sunny the rest of the day, with a nice cool breeze. After dad took care of all of us he went outside and cut up the boxes that Izzy's cage came in. It pretty much filled up the recycle bin. Then he cleaned all the filters in the air purifiers. He used his air hose in the garage and boy did he create his own dust storm. Mom and dad had leftover pizza for dinner and they found out that Izzy LOVES pizza crust. But, who doesn't?
Today will be partly cloudy, with a high of 75 and a low of 55. Mom and dad are going to the movies to see American Sniper.
Hope your day is fun.

  Hi Flitzer
the mom did come back for her fawns. its a good thing because all our mom could do was stand there watching them all day and evening. then she put the spotlights on from the house so she would see the mom come. then she didn't see the mom so she went outside to check on the fawns and there was the mom standing there so mom went back in the house and turned off the spotlights so the would have privacy in the dark. mom now feels very sad that they are gone. today she checked everywhere to see if they are still around but they aren't or if they are they are hiding in a good spot which is just as well because if mom found them she would be outside watching them all day again. mom will try and load the pictures. she is having trouble with the computer. the fawns were the size of cocker spaniels so they must not have been very old.

tonight mom went out again to see if the babies were around and the yard was full of bunnies hoping in every direction.

What a wonderful Bio! Your daddy sounds like such a loving and caring Parront!I love also how you got your name!We green cheeks sure are very fast and we do look like green streaks with red tails when we decide to take off!
This morning was a bright sunny morning with the highs for the day were 58 the lows will be 47,right now its 52 and still sunny at 6:00pm.Mom got us all up this morning and fed us our warm bean mix, cleaned our cages and room, made dad his fresh PB&J sandwiches for the week and then she went to print out a coupon for LongHorn Restaurant that skin bro wanted her to get off his email and when she went to go to his email it wouldn't let her on as she didn't know the password. So she went to go back to her own email and it threw her off also as it said her password was wrong so for over an hour dad was trying to get everything back,he finally had to call Comcast and get Mom a new password.Mom finally got the coupon and they left here around 11:45 to go to Nana's and meet Nana and skin bro there.Mom wasn't sure that Nana would be able to get into dad's car as it was taller as Mom has a hard time in it also he(Dad) had to put a shoe box down so her feet could touch the ground and not dangle. He's looking to find a stool for her but can't find a little step stool so far.Nana did get to get in his car and they took off for the restaurant and they ordered renegade steaks with sweet potato baked in butter and cinnamon and sugar and Mom and Nana had a tossed salad to go with it,skin bro had a salad and garlic fries my dad had a burger with shaved steak on top, lettuce tomato and sautéed onions on a huge roll,it was so big he couldn't get his mouth on it he also had plain fries to go with it,plus they serve everything with the honey wheat bread before you get the meal. Then skin bro ordered the Chocolate Stampede Cake for dessert and oh was that so sinful! That is the most wonderful dessert ever and it comes with chocolate cake, with chocolate mousse, whipped cream, two big balls of vanilla ice cream drizzled with chocolate sauce. The four of them shared it and were they so full and in need of a wheel barrow to get them out to the car after that.Skin bro paid for the whole meal for all of them. They went to Stop&Shop after that and Nana got some oranges and bottled water and banana's for our cousins and then they went to Walmart as Mom was looking for a specific item that they didn't have.Skin bro and Mom went to Walmart and Nana and my dad waited in the car for them. Both came out empty handed and they went back over the Bridge to Nana's again.Mom and Dad said goodbye to both Nana and skin bro and Dad took Mom to Roche Bros and they bought eight gallons of milk together.Milk was $1.99 a gallon, but its that price on Sunday's only.Dad got four and Mom got four as there was a limit of only four. Then Mom and dad went home where Mom came in and cleaned our cages for the night and gave us our snacks, she was over an hour late,we get our snacks at 4:00pm an

  Hi Flitzer
Liked your bio!

Mom and Dad's trip to the grocery store yesterday was very productive for yours truly. Not only did the sugar snap peas finally improve, but the blueberries were slightly on sale. Not enough to buy pie quantities, but I did get blueberries with my breakfast and Mom had them on her cereal. Good thing since the bananas were all too ripe.

I didn't get my sunbath today until Mom got back from the gym, because the cool down finally arrived. Of course, that is cooling it down to 73. I know many of my BC buddies would consider that a heat wave. We have officially entered "May Gray" though. The clouds were thick this morning and didn't burn off until just before noon. And then of course I had to be coy and play hard to get for my sunbath. Mom got home from the gym at 12:30, and I didn't make it outside till 1:30. After much dodging around, I suddenly decided it was time and climbed right in. Gotta keep Mom guessing!

  Hi Flitzer
It's a good idea to stay away from the big dogs. We have little dogs here, but mom teaches us to stay away from them, too.
We all got out yesterday, everyone except Falco. She was being a brat and was not willing to get into her travel cage, so mom just put her back in her indoor cage and took Maxine, Willie, and me outside for a while.
She went to dinner and the opera with Jessica, and enjoyed both. By the time they got to town, all the barricades for the pet walk and 5k walk were down. Dinner was at the Renaissance Hotel, which has a wonderful restaurant, and the opera, Daughter of the Regiment, was really funny and the singers were perfect! Great voices, good costumes, and funny dialogue, what could be better entertainment?
Today mom had to turn around 3 times to get to the museum for her tour. It's marathon Sunday and all the roads she usually takes were blocked off. She did make it on time, after driving all over Carnegie Mellon's campus. The kids on the tour were curious cub scouts, and mom went a little overtime with them, but they were fun.
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood today, sunny and high 70s. Mom is hoping to finish our blogs without too much trouble, so we can go outside for a little today too. Hope your day is filled with springtime, cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Peppino

Hi Flitzer-thanks for sharing YOUR history
Hello everybirdie, Sweetie here on this warm, bright Sunday. I want to begin by thanking you all for sharing your past histories, in your birdographies you tell the sad and happy events that have led you to be where you at this moment in time. I ask that every parront take the time to really read each one, for within each is a wealth of information and hope for someone else who may be facing or in the future may face a similar obstacle to Companion Parrot ownership. I hate that term ownership; signifying possession because no one truly "owns' a Parrot. We are not domesticated like a companion cat or dog. It is for these reasons that so many of us end for unwanted, neglected, abused or worse. We hatch from eggs will all the instincts of our wild cousins, except the ability to be free to exercise them.
As Falco's Mom and others noted dealing with hormones has been the most difficult challenge. That factor alone shows that we differ from all other commonly kept "pets". Where dogs or cats can be sterilized thereby removing that obstacle, Parrots, except under very unique circumstances are not. That fluffy bundle of down will one day be a fully mature, hormonal-driven adult with one desire; to reproduce their kind. Frustrated Parrots can become extremely aggressive, biting and lunging at those they once adored. The need to chew can wreck havoc on furniture, wood work and other humanly valued objects.
It is a tragic fact that over 70 % of baby Parrots will live in no less then two homes. Many will live in ten or more and some will be forever bounced from place to place. Many of the largest Parrot rescues in the USA have very large populations of Macaws and larger species Cockatoos. The Iowa Parrot Rescue has no less then 60 % population of these two species. Of these most are adult males five or older. After countless conversations with different rescue owners ( all USA/Canada based and with larger rescue populations) most of these 60% are surrendered due to aggression, screaming or other hormonal behaviors.
After reading every one of your comments, it is clear that many of us on BC have had previous homes. We were either rescues or re-homes due to necessity. Sadly some, Like Sam I Am suffered the most common Parrot/Owner scenario. A once adored baby becomes a problem to be dealt with. Stuck in solitary confinement due to our own natural behaviors we develop unwanted behaviors that cause us to be "given-up."
NOW TODAY'S QUESTION--who do YOU feel is to BLAME for this problem of Parrots being rehomed so often? IS it the breeder? Where do the stores fit into this? Are they responsible for finding suitable homes? Are sellers of babies failing to educate the potential buyer thereby setting up a high potential for failure of new owners keeping their Parrot for it's lifetime? What ideas do you think might help stop this sad situation of buyers of babies giving them up? How can we start to help end this problem?
