Thank you so much for letting me become BOTD 10/13/14. Thanks for all who came and shared that day too.

9/26/13-WOW! Thanks for making me BOTD! and I'm new!

He came to the flock with the name of Jack Jack. After watching him and also seeing how many Jacks there are in our BC Family, I decided to change his name to Pimer. The name is from Anne McCaffrey's books. He's a guy who is small, stocky and likes girls he has no chance to get at first.

The day Punkin died I was called to adopt a lovebird. His family were splitting up and wanted him in a good parrot home.

Hello everybirdie, Mikey D here to introduce myself to you and our upcoming BOTM campaign. Most of our BC family will remember my beautiful wife-bird Chuey and her BOTM Cattle Drive. After giving my campaign greyt thought I have decided to step back into the history of the United States. It was made easier for me when I recently received a message that the Beakerton Security Company asking for help with a special, secret mission.
It appears that that rascal Black Bart has popped his head back up this time robbing stagecoaches and wagon trains owned by the Beakerton Security Company. Our mission is to take a special load of Parrot Treats from Texas to the sunny state of California by Mule Train. The convoy of wagons will leave Texas and travel through some mighty dangerous, formidable territory. That is where you come in. i need your help in driving these ornery sometimes stubborn long-eared mules, in driving our herd of cattle and replacement horses and mules, and most of all guarding our precious cargo of Nutri-berries and other treats safely to those hungry beaks in California.
Most of you have your saddle horse already, so you'll "ole need be catchin' it up, and pack your saddle bags fer our "Wild West Adventure." Might I add you'd best be polishin' yer guns too, with Black Bart and his band of dirty low-down scoundrels on the lamb you just might be needing it pretty soon.
Now for a wee bit of history on the Wagon Trains of the USA.
By 1836 when Texas gained its independence San Antonio's population had fallen from a peak of around six thousand in 1800 to under one thousand. When Texas became a state in 1845, two very important factors revitalized the city and the surrounding area. The US Army arrived and soon established a series of ten forts to the west of the city, and the second influence was the US Postal Service who began the slow process of building roads across the state into adjoining states.
Mules had advantages over both oxen and horses. Bred from a female horse and a male donkey, the animals were about half way in size between the two. They were strong and sure footed. They lacked the free spirited nature of horses and were, indeed, creatures of habit. A good CAPORAL, the name given to the person in any wagon train in charge of the animals, had only to crack his whip in the morning for the mules to line up not only in front of its assigned wagon but even its assigned place within the team, which could consist of between six and eight animals. Unlike oxen, they did not rely entirely on foraging for the food but had to be fed from foldaway troughs at regular intervals. Their skin could withstand a lot of chafing from pulling heavy loads but was not water proof. They did have one huge disadvantage over oxen. The Oxen interested thieves not at all while mules were highly prized plunder.
See ya tomorrow

  FINNEGAN CHECKING IN...
Hi Pimer,
Thanks so much for all the votes and visits helping me get to 3K, I hope I can slow down now. Sorry I haven’t been able to blog all week. You know Momma…busy, busy, busy. She can’t keep up this pace on BC. Anyway, I had a great time last Sunday at Bird Club. Then the week flew by full of appointments and things, plus the never ending vacuuming and cleaning up after us 7 birdies and the unending chores that all mommies have to do! Today, Momma’s trying to catch up with all of our blogs. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Big Hugs from Your Friend, Finnegan♥

  Hi Pimer
How are you today? It's very cold and we have lots of snow here now. It snowed for 4 days straight and is to continue into the weekend as well. Where we live in Canada we do not get a lot of snow normally so other areas have a whole lot more then our 2 feet or so.
It is nice to relax in the castle this month. I plan to hold a special get-together for my friends during this month to celebrate a job-well-done in fighting the poachers and returning baby Armando to his family.
Have a great day my friend.
hugs

  Hi Pimer
Hello my friends, Amando here in the Brazilian sunshine. After our conversation with Paoo, Sky and I return to rejoin the others at the shuttle landing site. We gathered together to discuss the frightening information that we had uncovered. The reality that this happens daily here in South America, Mexico, and around the planet was a wake-up call to some, and a sad reminder to others like myself of the freedom we lost. As I spoke of Paoo's prison his final words echoed loudly in my mind. " you must take Armando back home"
" I am not so certain it's a good plan to take Armando back to his parents, what if he too is trapped?" Falco questions worry on her pretty face. Jesse puts his wing around her protectively.
"I agree, it might be safer if we take him back to BC and let him live with us." Gus adds tickling the baby under his beak
Jenny-Lynn and Sugar hold Armando protectively, anger filling their hearts as they think of the pain Paoo and Rosa and others suffer at man's cruel hands. Cappy stands watch over Armando, his crest raised in aggressive protection. " We will not stand anyone to harm our little friend!"
"NO! Let us come across the poachers, any poachers, we'll teach them a lesson they will never forget" SKY Screams loudly, his eyes burning in outrage. " We have to help Paoo. He sits daily without shade, at the mercy of the rain or sun , exhaust fumes filling his lungs. We'll take him with us. We will help him, we will return him to his family." Sky screams, and it is echoed in the voices of all the BC friends.
Baby Armando chirps, unsure of what was going on, but sure it was something eggciting that lay ahead for them all. Dory takes the baby and holding him gently, feeds him his lunch. Armando grins happily, his crop full, as he cuddles close to her for extra protection. Dixie and Little Angel offer to watch Armando for a while so Dory and the others can begin to pack up the bags for the first leg of their trip into the Amazon. Lizzie and BB work with Chyna and the girls to make snacks for their cross country journey to Macapa' in the state of Para. From Para, they will start the trek along the Amazon River to find Armando's family.
Pará is the most populous state of the northern region with a population of over 7.5 million, being the ninth most populous state in Brazil. It is the second largest state of Brazil in area, with 1,2 million km², second only to Amazonas. Its most famous icons are the Amazon River and the Amazon Rainforest.
" Before dawn we will go for Paoo, then take the shuttle to Macapa'. We will be using long boats to navigate the Amazon River. JL we need you to organize a rescue mission. Finnegan I need you and Spot to fly ahead to scout out the route we will be taking once our shuttles land near the city. Check for any dangers, both wild animals and humans.

  Hi Pimer
Hello everybirdie, I must finish Paoo's story even though it brings much sadness and grief to us. Paoo was real, his story was shared with my Momma Deb by Miguel a former poacher who has since learned the truth and now fights daily to stop the illegal trade in wild-caught Parrots in South America and Mexico. I wish to thank him for showing us the reality of poaching of Parrots world-wide. Flew free my friend Paoo.
" The terror that filled her once beautiful eyes broke my heart, and spirit. I sat next to her as she slowly died a pain-filled death, screaming in agony. It is this faithfulness to one another that allows many Parrots of all species to be trapped in the wild. When one among a group is injured the others respond by coming to their aid. As I sat next to Rosa, watching her life fade IW as unaware of the danger soon to befall us. A net was sudden shot over the group of Macaws settled on the ground guarding their dying comrades. Some escaped the net as it hurled across the opening launched from special cannons. Many of us did not."
"When the net fell I tried to fly but the weight held me to the ground, I fought hard but became entangled in the webbing. Men came, Miguel came and grabbed each of us roughly. Some of my friends received injured or broken wings due tot heir rough handling and our struggle to get free. We were thrown into metal cages one upon another, cramped together so we could not move, or barely breath. The hot sun, no water and food made many of us sick and very weak. By the time we arrived at Miguel's home in the Amazon we were tired, scared and unable to put up a fight. We were left in these conditions for days. Finally one by one we were yanked out, our wings were pinioned( a practice were the end of the wing is cut off to prevent any future ability of flight). Some of my family fought the men, and they were dunked head first into pails of cold water again and again until they quieted down or died of fear. I was young and strong and fought and screamed in anger as they cut the ends of my wings off. I bit hard and tried to escape. Unable to fly I fell tot he ground and was easily captured. To stop my fighting I was held down as a red-hot needle was touched to my iris of each eye. The pain was unbelievable and somewhere during this abuse I passed out. When I awoke I was once more in the cramped cage, but my world had become filled with pain and darkness. "
" Miguel and the men took the remaining survivors from my flock to the market were we were sold for $60.00 to $200.00 US each. Many of us had died from abuse, fear, sickness, thirst and hunger. Other had infections in their open cuts were their wing tips had been chopped off, and some of us were forever blind due to our desire to once more fly free. My friends be careful of man. No matter what never stay in the open long, avoid common feeding grounds and please take the baby home."

  Hi Pimer
Hello Amazon Adventurers, Amando here in sunny Belem, Brazil. With our safe trip, and successful scouting of the surrounding area we took the opportunity to explore the area and attractions before getting down to the serious job of returning our Baby to his Parronts. "Come on let's go check out the beach and market place" Chyna says, Cori and the girls agree to that plan and leave together, swimsuits and towels under their wings."Stay together, and watch for any signs of danger!" Amando calls after them
"We better go keep an eye on them" Sky tells BB. Spot and BonBon with Parker follow along at a short distance to keep watch over the girls.
The girls giggle and laugh as they make they way to the beautiful, sandy beach. Seeing that they are in a safe, public location, Amando and Sky decide to go check out the market place. As they walk around, they come upon a small store on a side street. Here is where they meet Paoo. Paoo was sitting quietly on an old tree limb, barely moving, staring off into the distance Rainforest. The once beautiful Scarlet Macaw was dirty and his feathers looked dingy and rough.
"Hello!" Amando says startling the large bird. He looks bewildered as he tries to locate the source of the voice. "Hello?"
"He speaks Spanish" Sky says, " Bueno" Sky says
"Bueno" the Parrot replies, " I speak English. My name is Paoo. Who are you?"
"I am Sky and this is my frother Amando. We have come from America to return a baby Amazon to his Parents."
" I once lived free too. But one day it all ended and I was brought here. I was born in the Central part of the Rain Forest, high in a tree hole nest. I lived with my Parents and my flock. I learned to fly, and grew big and strong. When I was 5 years old I met a beautiful girl named Rosa who lived in another flock. We met everyday at the clay licks and had become very close friends. That ended one day. I awoke early that morning, as was my way and flew with my parents, siblings and flock to the licks, but no Rosa. Her flock never arrived that morning. I busied myself with eating clay as did all my flock members. The silence suddenly was shattered by the screams of macaws close by. Their panicked screams filling the air with terror. We rose into the sky as one, but being a flock and faithful to our own we flew fast towards the source of the panic calls. Circling above we saw several Scarlet macaws flapping wildly on the ground below and descended to assist them. There, on the ground I found my Rosa. She was covered in blood from a missing wing as were two others from her flock. I could not abandon her despite my fear of blood, so I landed close by and went to her side.

  Hi Pimer
Hello everybirdie, time to rise and shine. We will finish loading the shuttles and grab a quick breakfast before the sun rises over the BC castle. Then we are off to the warm, tropical Rain Forest of Brazil. We will land in Belem Brazil. From Belem, we shall begin our dangerous journey into the interior of the Amazon Rain Forest, following the Amazon River and the Orinoco Water Shed.
"I have spoken to a dear friend of mine, who once flew free in the Amazon. He was trapped and brought into Brazil’s $1billion illegal pet trade. It targets many highly desirable psittacids. Domestic and international demands for Brazil’s parrots is enormous. He warns us that according to a recent report by researchers David Pearson and Les Beletsky, domestic aviculture is an “iconic (activity) in all classes of Brazilian society”. Over 70 percent of wild-taken parrots are sold domestically, despite harsh laws that prohibit possession of wild-caught psittacids. The remainder are shipped to the USA, and Europe. We must be ever watchful, and careful least we too become part of this illegal trade in wild Parrots."
"Come and get it" BB calls between gulps of steaming hot coffee.
The boys yawn, and try to go back to sleep. They had spent the night taking turns feeding and caring for the baby Amazon. The baby is wide eyed and ready for breakfast as Kiddo opens one eye and looks down at the bundle of energy snuggles beneath him for warmth. " You sure don't sleep very long do you little one?"
After a quick hearty breakfast, the shuttles are loaded and with one final glance around the KB the Amazon adventurers and baby with his watchful foster Moms Dory, Sugar, Jenny-Lynn, Sweetie and Spot are belted in. With a final look around at BC and home, they head south-east towards their starting point in the resort city of Belem, on the Atlantic coast of Brazil. The flight is uneventful, and Baby sleeps quietly only waking long enough to eat and take a quick look out the windows at the clouds and blue skies around them. Landing carefully under the expert talons of Ms BB and Mr Sky, the shuttles touch down outside the city in a secluded location, where it will be safe for them to exit the shuttles and get their bearings. Having left the cold and snow of Canada and many parts of the US behind, the sun and heat feels good after the long flight.
" Hulk, Kiddo, Sky, Picabo, Silver, Pearl and I will go scout out the area. Wait here till we return. Be care and keep an eye out of humans." Amando says, as the boys head off towards Belem. The others unload the backpacks, tents and gear they brought along, readying everything for the long trip up the Amazon River. After a short while the scouts return with word that "it should be safe to explore some today in Belem, but stick together, never be alone."

  Hi Pimer
Hello fellow Adventurers, as promised today we will pick the baby's name. Due to the number of names I have made a separate list and posted it onto my page--PLEASE pick one name and let me know your choice--they are all greyt. Remember the baby is a BOY.
Rushing into the food tent, everybirdie places their food on the counter, as Sky and BB get busy cleaning and blending them through the food Processor. "WAIT SKY, not the Blackberry, it's not a fruit it's an ipod." Hulk yells as Sky prepares to drop the blackberry into the mixture.
Spot finishes feeding the baby by regurgitating food into his hungry mouth. "There, all full" he hands the baby back to Sugar who makes a disgusted face and tries not to gag.
"SPOT, you really know what you're doing" Parker says looking sorta nauseated
"THAT was so, owwwww, yuck!" BooBoo says holding her beetle in her beak. "GROSS!" she says, tossing her head back sending the beetle into the air. It falls straight into her beak. "YUMMY! Now that's how I like my food. Fresh, squirmy and crunchy"
"Now, that's GROSS!" Jenny-Lynn says, turning her attention back to the sleepy eyed baby in Sugar's wings. "Finnegan, how'd you like to take a turn watching baby for a while so we Zon Girls can get something for supper?"
Finnegan takes the little fluffy baby gently into his wings, looking at him with soft, wide eyes. "We'll get you home, don't worry little fellow"
The moment is broken by BB's loud yell, "SKY! What are you eating?"
Sky turns red, a large ladle in one wing, his beak full, " NUFFIN"
"Did you eat the baby's supper?" She eyes him and the half empty pot of blended food.
"I just tried a little, you know to be sure it tasted right without the pickles in it" Sky replies
BB shakes her head, taking the pot and ladle away from Sky. "We put this into small jars for our trip, unless you want to feed him?" she says with a shiver.
"We'll take turns BB, we're all pretty good at feeding fingers, hands and toys, so we can all take a turn feeding baby." Kiddo says proudly, smiling at the little sleeping chick, "it'll be good experience for us"
With the baby soundly sleeping in Finnegan's wings, the hungry birds fill up their plates from some of Lizzie and BB's fine cooking at the food tent. With full bellies, they set about fueling the shuttles, packing provisions, and building a bed for baby to sleep in during their long trip up the Amazon River.
"Jenny-Lynn, you really think we'll be able to find the baby's parents in all that Rain Forest?" Sweetie asks as she packs her favorite toy and some extra pellet and Finnegan's bag of Kaytee handfeeding formula into her backpack
"We'll find them. We're Zon's we don't give up, we don't back down and we don't ever break our promise to a baby" Jenny-Lynn says with deep conviction.
"Let's get some sleep and we'll leave at dawn. We need to take turns feeding baby every two hours or whenever his crop is empty, whose first?" Amando asks

  Hi Pimer
Go Steelers! The game is tonight in this rain.
Thanks Aunt Rose for the lovely New Year's pics!
It seems there are no avatars or aviaries today, as well as BC being as slow as we've ever seen it. If anyone else is having problems, please let Crystal know. The address is sitesupport@i5publishing.com. We know we are not the only ones!
Today mom has 2 tours at the museum, and there is icy rain out there. She didn't walk the dogs this morning as there was a thin coat of ice on the walkway. Hope it warms up enough to be safe to drive. We thought we'd get our blogs done before mom had to leave, but it's not gonna happen, with the slow loading times we're experiencing.
Update: Mom's back. When mom left, there was no ice on the walkway, but there was ice on the driveway and on the one road she takes to a more well traveled road. It warmed up by the time she left the museum, though, so now everything is just really wet! Her tours were surprisingly busy, with 23 on the first one and 18 on the second one. That's a lot of people to have on a miserable rainy day like today. I hope you have a great day, and get lots of mom/dad time today! Hugs, Peppino

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Peppino, Divo & Falco.

  Hi Pimer
Hello everybirdie, Amando here with our third day's Adventure update. I want to say the names you are coming up with are great. I will post them in Sunday's blog and everybirdie can vote on their favorite choice. The name with the most votes on Monday will be our new name for the Baby Amazon. Talking about baby's I sure hope we can find his Momma soon, he's starting to get pretty hungry.
"Chirp, chirp, CHIRP!!!!!!!!!" the baby cries as he stares at Jenny-Lynn and Sugar who are snuggling him close to help keep him warm. "CHIRP!!!!!"
"He's hungry, what are we suppose to feed him?' Sweetie asks Kaji who is watching from a safe distance. "Do you think Lizzie might cook something for him?"
"I don't think babies eat food like that, he needs special baby food, mushed up bugs, and worms and spiders" BooBoo says, hurrying to bring the baby a nice plump beetle she just caught.
"Boo Boo, stop, baby birds don't eat that stuff, not baby Parrots anyways!" Cori grabs her fister by the wing to slow her down
"That's correct, a baby Amazon needs high protein foods, warm, partially digested and fresh. Fruit, leaves, bugs and other foods the parents find when foraging. Being how young he is, he needs fed every hour or so, from sun-up to sun-set" Jenny-Lynn explains
"Ok, spread out everybirdie, look for fruit, veggies, leaves, and other healthy foods, seeds and nuts especially" Amando directs, as he rushes off in search of dinner for the little hungry fluff ball.
" I have a couple pickles" Sky says loudly, he'll love them!"
"SKY!"" BB frowns at Sky making him turn red, " babies don't eat pickles, and besides what are you doing with those pickles?"
"Look I see a walnut tree" Sky points and tries to get away as fast as he can, but BB follows him telling him all the dangers of too many pickles all the way there.

" It's ok baby, I'll take care of you" Jenny-Lynn tickles the baby under the chin, " we'll get you back to your Momma safe and sound."
"Just wait until I get my beak on those poachers, they'll regret stealing baby Parrots" Sugar adds, an angry glow in her eyes that only Amazons have.
"Let me at 'em, I'll show them a thing or two" BonBon yells in her highest Budgie voice. Spot holds his fister back as she gets worked up over someone stealing baby Birds from their nest holes.
" Look what we found!" Amando says happily as the group of foragers return to join Sugar and JL with their treasures." We have walnuts, chestnuts, oats, wheat, apples, a pear and someone found this, a Blackberry.
" Let's go to the Kissing Booth food tent and get our little friend fed, then we'll get ready to start our trip to Brazil" Amando says eggcitedly.

  Hi Pimer
Hello everyone, Amando here with today's continued adventure BOTM blog. We are certainly heading off into dangerous territory as we return this "Baby" to his parents and flock. I need your help as we face countless dangers, unknown mysteries and spiders. Amando shivers at that thought. We must be fearless, bold and brave.
"AHHHHHHHHH, isn't he cute?" Little Angel says looking softly at the baby in Amando's wings. " Dixie, look, a baby"
"We can't keep him Little Angel, he needs to go home to his parents and family" Amando reminds her
" What is he?" Dixie asks smiling, and making soft coos to the curious bundle of down
"Maybe it's a Conure?" Hulk says
" I think it's some kind of Amazon Parrot" Jenny-Lynn says startling everybirdie, as she moves in closer with Sugar and Sweetie. " Yep, it's an Amazon, too young to know what species but it's an Amazon alright"
"Aren't you just a cute little baby" Sugar says taking the chick from Amando, and hugging him close to her chest. " Don't you worry, we'll get you back home to your parents"
Jenny-Lynn takes the soft fluffy baby and holds him up at eye level. The baby bird coos softly as he looks into Jenny's eyes. "MOMMA?"
"OH NO! I'm not your Momma baby, but I will help look after you until we find her for you" Jenny-Lynn looks around to make sure everybirdie is in agreement. " all of us will go with you and Amando to the Amazon River and take you back home."
" I think the baby needs a name. We can't keep calling him BABY. So, let's think of a name for our little boy baby. Post them on my page and then we will all get to vote on the name we will call our new found friend." Amando says as he watches the girls kissing and cuddling the little down-covered baby.

"Jenny-Lynn, do you think we can get him to Brazil and back home ok?" Sweetie asks, uncertain of what might lie ahead.
"Of course. We will take the Shuttle, I am sure Ms BB will help us out, to Brazil, then travel by foot and boat up the Amazon River until we find our baby's flock, a piece of Avi-cake. You see, it'll be easy." even as she spoke Jenny-Lynn knew the dangers that lie ahead; snakes, dangerous animals, insects and.. "she closed her eyes, and kissed the baby. "It'll be fine Sweet Baby"

  Hi Pimer
I'm Amando and I am your JANUARY BOTM candidate-I hope I can count on your daily votes and support!
Good morning everybirdie, my name is Amando and I am a member of the Sky Flock and this January's BOTM candidate. Not too many of you will know me well as I am one of the quieter frother's of Sky. Bazeball vans might recall that I played on my friend Jenny Lynn's Rain Forest Raiders Team.
I came to be part of this large Sky Flock out of necessity. My Momma Deb and my former owner had been friends for years when the subject of Amazons came up one day in conversation. I had lived in other homes before my arrival at Momma's friends aviary but never seemed to stay too long in any one place. See I am rather loud by some people's standards and have a rather short temper at times. That being as it is, I ended up in a breeding aviary with a large outdoor, indoor flight and a very pretty girl as company. Now to most of you boys out there that would have been a wonderful life. It would have been except that girl, she didn't take too kindly to me being in her home. She attacked me one day and pulled out all the feathers on one wing, and bit my wing so badly they never did regrow. I was so afraid of her that from that day on I hid as far away from her as I could.
That is how I came to once more be looking for a new home. Momma's friend gave me to Momma knowing I would never have to leave again and that I would be safe and happy living out my days as a pet not a breeder. I am still afraid of other birds, and often react very aggressively to their presence. I like Sweetie, so long as she stays in her cage away from me, and we talk all the time. I have even took it upon myself to teach her to scream and yell just like I do. She's doing an awesome job, but I don't get the annoyed looks I sometimes receive when My Momma Deb hears the two of us screaming happily about, well, nothing.
Enough about me. What I really need is your help. On one of my daily walk-abouts I found something, or should I say, somebody. While strolling around on BC I found THIS! Amando holds out a small ball of feathery down with big dark curious eyes for his friends to see. The tiny baby chirps softly, looking from one birdie's face to another. "Momma?" he asks softly
"I need your help. We must return the baby to his parents in South America. He was bird-napped from his tree hole nest by poachers. Getting him there will not be easy. We will have to get him safely back home by taking a trip up the Amazon River.   Hi Pimer
Haha, you are too funny, sounding alarms with the cleaning equipment. We usually jump into our baths when the vacuum comes out...
Thanks so much for your ongoing support!
Today we are looking at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. This is located in Oakland, almost right across from the Cathedral of Learning, on the opposite side from the museum. The 3rd and 4th pics show the building, it's pretty impressive! The 2nd pic shows one of the statues outside the door, and the first shows an activity that was going on for Veterans Day. Soldiers and Sailors Hall is the only military museum in the US honoring all branches of service to the country, and in all capacities: active duty, reserves, and guard. The historic building has exhibits covering all conflicts the US has been part of, including a huge area devoted to Gettysburg. There are unique exhibits there displaying personal mementos and stories, military artifacts, and uniforms. The building includes, besides the museum, a concert hall that seats about 2300 people, a ballroom, and the Hall of Valor. As you can see, Pittsburgh has a lot to offer when you come here.
Hope you are having a great day, see you tomorrow. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Pimer
Good to see you! I hope Jules is feeling better today.
Thanks for your continuing support! I couldn't do it without your votes.
We are back at Phipps today for the rest of the inside peek at the Christmas flower show and light display. Every year it's different, and mom didn't take pics of the miniature train display that's there as well. But here are some of the decorated hobby horses and some great poinsettia colors. The first pic shows lighted snowflakes hanging from the ceiling, too. There are candlelight tours there during the Christmas season, but we don't have pics of those. I hope if you come to Pittsburgh that you will visit Phipps Conservatory, it's a wonderful place to walk through all year round.
Mom and her family are going back there Monday to see this year's light and flower show. The pics I've shown you are from last year! I know, that's cheating, but mom didn't know when she would get there this year, and we wanted to show off one of the area's best features in its holiday splendor. See you tomorrow, hope you had a great Christmas day! Hugs, Peppino

  October BOTM POST number thirteen
Hi everybirdie Jesse here with today's BOTM Adventure POST. I want to take a moment to thank you all for your continuous daily votes, and awesome blogs. I am trying to use them in my story line so keep them comin.' IF anybirdie still needs a Halloween picture please let me know your choice of costume and I will see what I can do to help you out.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Sky screams shrilly and he a Jake back up quickly from the mound of parted grass. "What was that thing???"
"I have no idea but I'm outta here" Jake heads back to rejoin BB and the others, with Sky following on his heels.
Sky shivers, and ducks behind BB. Peaking out to stare towards the grass with dilated eyes. "EEEEEKuck." Sky did not get the words out before birdies began to scream and jump as fast as they could to join Jake and Sky behind BB and BonBon who had come to see what was wrong with her Poppa Sky.
"S-P-I-D-E-R-S!" from every direction big, ucky, black, beady eyed spiders crawl, hang and appear out of every tree, bush and from behind every blade of grass. The girl birds huddle close together as the spiders spin their webs angrily from every solid object. Sky nervously sneaks a peak again from behind BB, closing his eyes. He hates spiders, well no, Sky is afraid of them, and these are BIG, black ucky ones with a quadrillion legs. He shutters, then takes a brave breath of air.
"BOYS, we must protect the ladies" Sky announces not too confidently.
"Yeah, that's right" Cookie says, hanging tightly onto BB's leg once more. " we'll protect you girls"
"Oh really, they're just Spiders" BooBoo says snatching one in her beak and swallowing it whole, "YUMMMMMIE"
The others look at BooBoo and make faces, "how disgusting BooBoo, eating it without BBQing it first" BonBon chirps up. " AHHHHHHH, ones chasing me" she says taking flight. She lands on her Poppa Sky's head. "I'll sit up here and keep watch on them for you" she grins down at her red feathered Poppa.
The spiders continue to emerge, spinning thick webs everywhere. Their black eyes glaring like fiery flames of anger. The birds huddle closely as the Spiders move closer and closer. Suddenly Jesse sees what looks like an opening, and yells, " Follow me" he runs as fast as his talons will carry him between two Mulberry bushes with the others closely upon his heels. The duck low to avoid the heavy webs hanging from the old dark trees, and weave to the left and right around the huge black spiders who appear to block their path of escape. Jesse rushes forward, jumping over an old fallen log, and lands inches from a monstrous Spider, who growls and snaps his feet at the pasting birdies.
"EEEEEEEEEEEE" the scream brings the fleeing birds to a halt, "LITTLE ANGEL, the Spiders grabbed her into their web, HELP HER!!!!!

Did you ever catch that bug off your mom? Hehehe! Hope you have a fun weekend! It is super loud here as one of moms' english students is having her 15th b-day party here next Sat. And maybe you know that here in Mexico, that is a big deal. She is having over 250 people. And they are here today and most evenings, practicing the dance show that is part of the party. So we are hearing very loud, lively latin music. We all like it though! Ay carumba!

  Hi Pimer
Makana sounds like she fits right in with the flock! Good for her!
Mom put away most of the stuff from Parrot Palooza. She gave each of us a new toy, and Maxine got a new perch, but the rest of the stuff got put up. I suspect we'll see it a little at a time. Mom was pleased to find greeting cards there with birds, too.
Yesterday after mom planted all the bulbs, the irises, and the rudbeckia, she thought she was done. Later, when she went out to get the mail, she noticed that our neighbor Jeff had left more things to plant on the shelf by the door! It was all indoor stuff, though, 2 amaryllis bulbs and some narcissus.
Today at the center, mom went into the RVS room and saw a cage standing open. She went to get Bree, and they looked all over the room for the missing raccoon. They couldn't find him, so mom took his chart to the front, entered today as his self release day into the computer, and put the chart in a drawer for filing. She then helped a new person catch a squirrel who had gotten loose. When she went back to the RVS room the raccoon was on the bank of cages staring at her! She got Bree, and the two of them captured the little bugger and put him in a carrier until his cage was done. Mom put a carabiner on the cage to prevent him from opening it again. There were other raccoons and a bat in there today, so it took the rest of her time to clean them, feed them, and finally she emptied the dryer, reloaded it, loaded up the washer, and started a load. Now she's ours for the day! I think she's still catching up with some reading on the Nook, before she starts another real book. Tomorrow is the museum, the opera, and dinner out, so we have to take advantage of today.
I hope you are having a fine fall day, not too cold and rainy. I also hope you are getting lots of scritchies and kisses today. Hugs, Peppino

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Peppino, Divo & Falco.

  October BOTM POST number ten
Helloooooo, Jesse screams in fright as the row boat bounces wildly on the storm tossed lake. The waves reach high over the sides of the row-boats filling them with cold, icy water. The frightened birds yell for help, their voices lost in the crashes of thunder from above.
After what feels like an eternity, the small wooden row-boats bump roughly into the rocky shores of the BC Lake. With a deep sigh of relief everybirdie scrambles to escape from the angry waters, and wind, jumping over the edge quickly, and running for cover in the nearby brush that watches over the normally quiet Lake. Jesse crawls along the beach, counting heads, making certain everybirdie is safely ashore. With so many disappearing he doesn't plan to take any chances at all from here on. Sitting down beside SKY, BB and Jake Jesse rubs his chin as he thinks of the next thing he ought to do. HE frowns sadly, uncertainly etching his handsome face with worry lines.
"I'm not certain where we are?" Jesse says, sneaking a peak out from around the brush he and the others are hankered down behind.
"We aren't far from the Castle. In fact from every point of BC Lake we can see the Castle. We need to get our bearings." BB says with confidence.
"Ok, Jake and I will head up that small hill and get a better idea where we are." Sky says climbing to his feet, with Jake beside him. ' Be right back" he tells BB and Jesse as they head off up the hill.
"You any idea where we are?" Sky asks Jake as they climb the hillside.
"NOPE!" Jake says looking around slowly. " NEVER saw this place before"
Sky takes Apache's binoculars from his jacket pocket and scans the area. " I can't find the Castle. Actually I can't see anything I recognize."
Sky hands Jake the binoculars. HE looks along time, then " whistles softly. Nope, me either. I think if we head towards the west we will find the Castle, or at least something we will remember."
Sky and Jake climb back down to where they'd left Jesse and BB. After a moment of explanation, they decide that they better keep moving. BB agrees that the Castle should lay tot he West. Jesse once more moves down the brushes, stopping to explain the plan to each group of nervous adventurers. He stops where Falco and Boo Boo sit quietly looking rather scared. " I'll get you outta here, and we will find the others. I promise." Falco smiles softly.
"OKAY, everybirdie, let's keep moving. I am sure that if we keep heading WEST we will locate the Castle, or somewhere we will all recognize. We need to hurry, we have to find Sugar, Cori, Pepper, Gus, Snowflake and Cydney."
With much murmuring the tired, wet, scared birdies follow Jesse as he begins to walk towards the West. The group climbs a small hill, coming to rest at the top for a moment. As they reach the summit, the wind fades, the clouds part, and once more the sky shines blue, and golden with the warm sunshine.

  Hi Pimer
You sure look good in a crown! I can't wait for the food, I guess you know I'm a real foodie. Hope mom feels better soon, it's not fun having a bug. If you and the rest of the flock couldn't find it, let's hope it went away!
Last night mom's daughter and son in law came over with a huge gyro platter to share for dinner. They are leaving today for Rhinebeck, NY, for a large sheep and wool festival, and doing some sightseeing while they are there. It sounds like a good vacation to mom.
On the bottom of Falco's page, mom put some pics of her and Pearl, the Moluccan 'too she met at the Palooza. Thanks for taking the pics goes to Aunt Eva. Pearl flew to mom and laughed with her for a while. Pearl is a therapy bird, guess she thought mom needed some therapy, heehee.
Not much going on today, mom has mailed out the things she promised people at Parrot Palooza, so all that's left to do is to finish planting all those tulips, irises, and rudbeckia that she didn't do yesterday. Tonight she's meeting her sister for dinner, then she's ours for the rest of the day/night. Hope you are having a great day and getting lots of love and kisses. Hugs, Willie
