Dad hd to see his chiropractor, heading in the same direction - so he brought me to meet everyone at the chiropractor's office on the way!

Dr Wade says that everything's great and I am wonderfully healthy as I approach my Eighth HatchDay.

Happy November.

Dad's a little better now, but he's had the flu. There was one day he spent the whole day in bed.
Now, I don't go into his back bedroom - not because it's forbidden, but I respect his space.
On the day he was so sick, I really missed him so I journeyed out to seek out where he was and if everything was ok. He was pleased to see my green head poking around the door to come visit him. We spent maybe an hour together cuddling and talking. Great Daddy-n-Bird Time.

On lesson I'm learning:
Sick Daddies are home and need lots of care.
Well Daddy's are often out-n-about and not always home.

Halloween night, Dad and Uncle Geno - along with Geno's "Guard-Dog" Lucy faced the Trick-or-treaters at Geno's place. In between kids they watched Vincent Price in
"THEATER OF BLOOD" (1973). A fun night.

On Sunday, Dad n Uncle Geno went to the 60th Anniversary Showing of the movie
Rogers and Hammerstein's "OKLAHOMA!" on the Big Screen. A beautiful print and a nice afternoon.

  HI MY BROTHER-IN-LAW TWEETY!!!
Hi Tweety and the BC LA Lakers..Pecked a V4U...Today my campaign blog will be about 2 in the woodpecker family...These 2 definitely come to our feeders...We watch them often..First some information on woodpeckers...They are chisel-billed, wood boring birds with strong zygodactyl feet (usually 2 toes front, 2 rear), remarkably long tongues, and stiff spiny tails that act as props when climbing..Flight usually undulating..Most males have some red on head...Food: Tree boring insects; some species eat ants, flying insects, berries, acorns & sap....The first one will be the Pileated Woodpecker..It is 16-19 1/2" in size...A spectacular crow-sized black woodpecker with a flaming red crest....Female has a blackish forehead, lacks red on mustache..Great size, sweeping wingbeats and flashing white underwing areas identify it in flight..The diggings, large oval or oblong holes, indicate its presence..Voice: Call resembles that of Northern Flicker, but louder, irregular: kik-kik-kikkik--kik-kik, etc...Also a more ringing, hurried call that may rise or fall slightly in pitch..Habitat: Conifer, mixed, and hardwood forests, woodlots...The second will be the Northern "Yellow-Shafted" Flicker...It is 12-14" in size..Note conspicuous white rump, visible when bird flies..Flight is undulating..Overhead, it flashes golden yellow under wings and tail..Close up, it displays a black patch across chest and a red crescent on nape..Male has a black mustache..Flicker often hops awkwardly on ground while feeding on ants.. Voice: Song, a loud wick wick wick, wick, wick, wick, etc..Notes, a loud klee-yer and a squeaky flick-a-flick-a, etc...Habitat: Open forests, woodlots, groves, farms, towns, semi-open country....Tomorrow for my final blog will be on a couple more birds that also are in our area or come to our feeders....Hope you have been enjoying some of this information on birds and mammals here in Pa. and the Pocono area where we live..Thank you again every birdie who has voted for me daily...Have a great Friday...Lots of wing hugs to you....STORMY :o)

Hi Bro Tweety and BC LA Lakers..Pecked a V4U...Today my campaign blog will be about two birds that we definitely have in Pa and also the Pocono area where we live...They are at out feeders all day long...The first will be the White-Breasted Nuthatch...This bird is about 5-6" in size.Small stout tree-climbers with strong bills..Stubby square-cut tails not used to brace like woodpeckers' in climbing...The Nuthatches climb down trees headfirst..This, the most widespread species, is known by its black cap(gray in female) and beady black eye on a white face..Undertail coverts are chestnut.Song, they have a rapid series of low nasal, whistled notes on one pitch: whi, whi, whi,or who, who, who, etc.Note, a nasal yank, yank, yank: also a nasal tootoo...Habitat: Forests, woodlots, groves, river woods, shade trees...They are known to visit feeders that are filled with suet and especially like the black oil sunflower seeds also bark insects, seeds nuts...The second will be about the Tufted Titmouse..Small plump, small-billed birds; acrobatic when feeding...Often roam in little bands...Sexes usually alike...About 6" a small, gray, mouse-colored bird with a tufted crest. Its flanks are rusty...Voice: a clear whistled chant: peter, peter, peter or here, here, here..Notes similar to those of chickadees, but more drawling, nasal wheezy and complaining..Habitat: woodlands, shade trees & groves..Very inquisitive and loudly vocal..Food: insects, seeds, acorn mast, berries..At feeders, suet, sunflower seeds....Tomorrow will be about 2 more of the birds that are at our feeders all the time here in the Pocono's...Sure hope yo are enjoying the blogs..Thank every one of the BC birds that have voted for me daily...Have a great Thursday...Lots of wing hugs to you....STORMY :o)

Hi Tweety & the BC LA Lakers....Pecked a V4U...Today my campaign blog will be about two more mammals here in the state of Pa. and also our Pocono area where we live..The first will be a bout the Deer Mouse...This and the similar white-footed mouse are probably the most abundant mammals in Pennsylvania..They may enter houses in the fall and be mistaken for house mice...The deer mouse has huge black eyes, large ears, fawn-colored back, white belly and paws, and a furred tail; the house mouse is grayer, has a gray belly and naked tail...The deer mouse eats seeds, fruits and insects, and is tidy..Its nest is a ball of soft material...This dainty mouse is 7-8 inches long, including tail..Up to four litters (3-7 young each) may be born annually....The second will be about the Gray Squirrel..The nickname "bushytail" refers to his fluffy tail, almost as long as his body, which lends balance in his amazing acrobatics..Grizzled gray (more or less rusty along the back) with a white belly...The black color phase is common in northern Pennsylvania..The hind legs are powerful, the front paws dainty and agile for handling nuts, seeds, fruits, and occasional insects and mushrooms...Squirrels may build temporary "nests"-balls of leaves and twigs high in a tree...Young (4-5) are born in a tree cavity or man made nest box..Adults weigh about 1-1 1/2 pounds...The meat is quite tasty...Tomorrow I will continue more of with more of the mammals....Sure hope you are finding the blogs of interest...I thank each and every birdie who continues to vote for me daily...Have a great Sunday...Lots of wing hugs to you.....STORMY :o)

Hi Tweety and BC LA Lakers....Pecked a V4U...Here is my campaign blog for today...Today my campaign blog will be about another two mammals here in Pennsylvania and in the Pocono area where we live...He first will be about the Long-Tailed Weasel..One of three weasels in the state, all of which have long, slender bodies...This species has a long, black-tipped tail; head and body are about 1-1 1/2 feet long (females, slightly smaller)....Some individuals turn white in winter except for the tail-tip; most remain brown...Usually nocturnal, The weasel may sometimes move around in daytime; in winter, weasel tracks are often seen in the snow...Hairless and blind young (5 or 6) are born in a burrow in May....The weasel's appetite for small rodents makes him a welcome guest; he may also eat insects, frogs, snakes and birds...The second will about the Eastern Mole...Most of us know moles, if not from experience with them or their burrows, then at least as the "Mr.Mole" of numerous children's stories..He's always chubby and near-sighted-like the real-life mole with his stubby 6-inch body and tiny eyes...He has no external ears, but makes up for a lack there with jumbo-size front paws for burrowing...His plushy fur is slate-gray..Though moles irritate homeowners by tunneling through lawns, they also eat lawn-damaging grubs and insects and aerate the soil...Tomorrow my campaign blogs will continue on the mammals.....Hope you find these blogs on our mammals of some interest...Also I am sure many other states have some of the same mammals living there...Again thanks to every birdie who votes for me daily...I do appreciate every vote...Have a great Saturday...Lots of wing hug to you..STORMY :o)

Hi Tweety and the BC La Lakers...Pecked a V4U...Stopping by with my campaign blog for today..Today my campaign blog will continue with more mammals in our state of Pa. and here in the Pocono area where we live....The first will be about the Muskrat..Looking something like a cross between a beaver and vole-and about midway between them in size-is this mammal of marshes, ponds and streams...Primarily a vegetarian specializing in cattails, the muskrat will also eat small animals....The muskrat is a prolific breeder...Home may be a lodge of mud and plant material in shallow water, or a burrow in pond-or stream bank...Burrows may damage ponds; fortunately, muskrat fur is valuable, and a good way to solve such problems is to invite in a responsible trapper to thin the 'rat population...The second will be about the Meadow Vole..Called "meadow mice" by some, several species of voles have chunkier heads and bodies, shorter tails, and smaller ears than mice..Adult meadow voles are dark brown, about five inches long with a 1 1/2-inch tail...They are found almost everywhere in the state where there is tall grass, through, which they clear runways at ground level...Many of Pennsylvania's meat-eaters depend on voles as a basic diet..Even black bears munch on an occasional vole..Meadow voles eat grasses, seeds, field crops and fruits; in winter, they'll sometimes eat bark.... Saturday I will blogging about 2 more mammals....Hope you are enjoying reading about these mammals...Thank all of you that continues to vote everyday for me...Have a great Friday...Lots of wing hugs to you....STORMY :o)

Hi Tweety and the BC LA Lakers...Pecked a V4U..Today my campaign blog will be about 2 more mammals found her in Pa. and the Pocono area where we live...The first is about the Raccoon..The "masked bandit" who raids suburban garbage cans and camp food boxes..Active at night, the coon usually stays near water...He often "washes" food before eating..Food is varied: fruits, nuts, corn, insects, grain, egg & crayfish...Most adults weigh 14-18 pounds...Young are born blind and naked in early April, 3-6 per litter, and stay with mother until late fall..."Coons sleep deeply in winter, but don't actually hibernate..Hollow trees make food dens..During the day, you may see one asleep in a high tree-crotch...Raccoon fur is valuable, and the flesh is edible...The second will be about the Flying Squirrel..Despite its name, this squirrel doesn't really fly, but glides from high to lower points using skin stretched between front and hind legs..Silky brown-furred back, white belly and big black eyes make him most appealing...The eastern species is a bit smaller and lighter than a chipmunk; the northern species is chipmunk-size...Both live in wooded areas but are seldom seen because they're only active at night...One or two litters of blind, naked young are born yearly in tree-cavity nests...Food is varied: seeds, nuts, berries, insects, sometimes mice, small birds and eggs...Tomorrow I will continue with 2 more mammals...Sure hope you all are enjoying the blogs...Thank each and everyone of you birdies who vote for me daily...Have a great Thursday....Lots of hugs to you....STORMY :o)

Hi Tweety and the BC La Lakers...Pecked a V4U..Today my campaign blog will be about 2 more of the mammals that are in our state and also the Pocono area...The first will be the Little Brown Bat..Our most common bat, especially around suburbs and towns...A tiny mammal, its body is only about 2 1/2 inches long, with a 10-inch wingspread; it weighs but a quarter of an ounce..In winter, these bats hibernate in caves; in summer, males wander while females form nursery colonies, sometimes in attic or barns....They're usually harmless, and eat vast numbers of insects, but their roosts may stink...The only way to keep bats our permanently is to close all openings bigger than 3/8"...Bats leave roosts at dusk, flying for hours catching insects by echolocation(like sonar)...One young per year...The second will be the River Otter...Intelligent, playful, sleek, powerful-all describe river otters..Less plentiful than they once were, otters need clean water and freedom from too much human disturbance...An adult otter is about three feet long with a one-foot tail...A blunt muzzle contains sharp teeth for eating aquatic animals and plants...Otters are shy and are active mostly at night, so are seldom seen..Some fishermen resent their eating occasional game fish (otters eat more crayfish and small non game fish);others feel otters are worth a trout now and then...Tomorrow there will be 2 more mammals added to this list so far..Sure hope you are all enjoying the blogs and find some of these mammals interesting...Thank you again every birdie that comes daily to peck a vote for me...Have a great Wednesday...Lots of hugs to you....STORMY :o)

Hi, Tweety and BC Lakers...Pecked a V4U...Thanks for stopping by with your vote...Today my campaign blog will be about 2 more mammals in our state and also in the Pocono Area where we live..The first will be about Short-Tailed Shrew...Heavyweight of Pennsylvania's seven shrew species, tips the scale at half and ounce...A common mammal in the state, but more likely to be heard(as a tiny rustle in fallen leaves)than seen, due to its size and shyness...Extremely active and a voracious eater, it consumes at least it own weight every day in insects, spiders, snails, millipedes, slugs, etc....Its saliva is poisonous to small animals but harmless to man...The velvety gray-furred shrew has a very pointed snout and tiny front feet, unlike the heavy spade-shaped feet of the mole....The second is the Eastern Cottontail..The rabbit's legendary love for vegetables gets him into trouble with home gardeners..But, along with voles and mice, rabbits are a vital part of Pennsylvania's food chain..They're taken in large numbers by foxes, hawks, owls and other predators; to make up for this, their breeding rate is also legendary...With suitable habitat, including escape cover, rabbits flourish despite animal predation and hunting..Cottontails are most active at dawn and dusk...Young-up to 6 0r 7 liters a year-are born naked and blind....Tomorrow I will continue with more mammals in our state and Pocono's...Sure hope you are enjoying the blogs and think they are interesting....Thank you every BC bird friend who continues to vote for me daily..Have a great Tuesday...Lots of wing hugs to you....STORMY :o)

  HI MY BROTHER IN-LAW TWEETY!!!!
Hi Bro-in-Law Tweety & the BC La Lakers...Pecked a V4U..As I start this blog for today first I would like to apologize for not being able to finish the blogs on Friday to we had to stop because they were disappearing every time she tried to send them..It was about the Screech Owl and the Great Blue Heron.. So if you did not receive it and would like to hear about them I will resend it to...Yesterday she went to Parrot Palooza and met up with some of the BC Moms and spent the day with them..Great Event and lots of great things to purchase and many was given to you free or you won them...Later in the evening the group went to dinner and then it was the long trip and and very late night arrival back to the Pocono...So tonight I will be talking about the Red-Wing Blackbird..Hot afternoon on the marsh, buzzy insect noises in the air, and a loud O-ka-REE, trilled on the last note, spells "red-winged blackbird." This striking black bird with the red and yellow epaulets is almost the spirit of the marsh, though you may also find him in drier fields and pastures. Females and young are streaked brown, but often with a bit of red on their shoulders, too.. They eat many insects, especially weevils and caterpillars, and weed seeds; in winter, banded together with other blackbirds in great flocks, they may eat grain...Tomorrow I will continue with birds again in the Pocono area here where we live and also in the state of Pennsylvania...Hope they are of interest to you and you are enjoying reading about them...Thank you for coming to my page and voting for me daily..I appreciate it very much...Enjoy your Sunday...Many Hugs to you....STORMY :o)

  HI MY BROTHER IN-LAW TWEETY!!!!
Tweety, Cookie and THE BC LA LAKERS...Pecked a V4U...After a log day for Mom & Dad driving 4 hrs. round trip for another Doctor Appt.plus all the time spent at the office and making 2 other stops we finally are able to start my campaign blog for today....Today the first bird I will talk about is the Downy Woodpecker...It is the most abundant of or woodpeckers, this little sparrow-sized bird with black and-white wings and white back is well-known to outdoors men...The male has a red patch on his head..Call is a soft pik; most common sound is the tap-tap-tap of a downy looking for beetle eggs and grubs. True friends of foresters, woodpeckers help control wood-destroying insects, and hollow out nests only in the softer wood of dead or dying limbs...Abandoned woodpecker nests are often used by other birds and mammals. The hairy woodpecker is almost a twin, but a few inches bigger...The second bird for today is the Rufous-Sided Towhee..Despite its obscure-sounding name, this is a common bird of brushy woods, often mistaken for a robin. Its red, however is just on the sides, not the whole breast...Neck, head and back are black in males, brown in females. It sings DRINK-your-TEA repeatedly, trilling the tea. The towhee(pronounced TOE-he)scratches through leaves on the ground looking for insects and seeds, and hops from bush to bush in the under-growth, making lots of noise. Some individuals remain in Pennsylvania all year....Sure hope you have been enjoying learning about some of the birds of Pennsylvania and our Pocono area...Thank you every birdie that continues to come every day and peck a vote for me and my campaign blogs for becoming the BOTM...They are much appreciated...Hope you are having a great Thursday...Many hugs to you....STORMY :o)

  HI MY BROTHER IN-LAW TWEETY!!!!
Hi there Tweety, Cookie and BC LA Lakers....Thanks for your vote..Pecked a V4U...Sorry could not blog earlier today but Mom had a Doctors Appointment...So my blog for today will be another 2 birds found in the state of Pennsylvania and also in the Pocono area..Of course I am sure they are in other states as well...The first will be the Evening Grosbeak...Most often seen in winter at the backyard feeder-some years quite common, other years absent. When it does appear here, it's most easily attracted by sunflower seeds...About the same size as the cardinal, with whom it may be seen at the feeder, the grosbeak's black, white, and yellow are nicely set off by the cardinal's red....In both species, the female's color is duller than the male's>..Outside the backyard, its favorite habitat is coniferous forests, its favorite food the seeds of box-elder...Call is a loud chirp.....The second will be the Canada Goose...Along wit turkeys, our largest game birds..With careful management, the population nationwide doubled between 1955 and 1975...Both sexes have a brown body and black head and neck, with a white cheek patch...Some Canadas winter here; most migrate in V formations, honking loudly...Adults mate for life, breeding when three years old...They nest on the ground near water, and readily use artificial nesting devices...Food: aquatic plants, roots, grains and insects...May bother landowners by grazing heavily on fields near wetlands....Tomorrow I will continue on more of the birds...Hope you are finding these blogs of interest..Again thanks to all the BC friends that come to peck a vote for me daily..I do appreciate them all...Have a great Tuesday....Lot of hugs to you....STORMY :o)

  Flitzer Saturday
Happy Saturday, friends.
--
We have had a sad week -our dear friend, Grace (94) struggled with life and finally passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday evening.
[Uncle JJ's Mom]
She now joins her husband who went before her just two months ago. We are all thankful they both lead such long and wonderful lives -but it has been a rough year with falls, illnesses and now the loss of both of them.
--
Dad began October by sharing a favorite scary ghost story film with Uncle Geno: "THE INNOCENTS" (1961) with Deborah Kerr. So good to have intelligent horror films, that don't have to rely on blood and gore. We highly recommend it if you've never checked it out.
It's based on Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw".

Hope all is well in your happy home
