Mom was devastated after the loss of Joey and felt that she needed to get another 'tiel to help with the grieving process. She watched me several times in the pet store and I figured I had better do something to make her pick me! I decided to just be my cute self and it worked! She bought me on September 11, 2013. On the way home from Castlegar, she told me all about this wonderful cockatiel named Joey. I wish I could have known him! He must have been incredible!.

Hi! My name is Jazz

I am a Cockatiel from Nelson, BC.

Jazzy, Jazz-man, Jazzeroni

1 year old   M

Cockatiel

I love millet, nutriberries and I am just getting into birdie bread. I am starting to eat veggies too, so I like kale and broccoli.

I like the climbing tree and the cage top playgym on Chicklet's cage. I also like hanging out on the cage tops. MOm's hand for head scritches is pretty coveted too!

I really don't like having my wings clipped. Also, I don't understand why my flockmates aren't as friendly as I am. I just want to be friends with everyone! I am very affectionate and gregarious.

She loves me and treats me like a king. I mean she really dotes on me! I love the head scratches too. I think she will be easy to train:)

I like to sing as I do everything such as eating, preening, snoozing:) Also, when I do sing, I like to put my wings up when I hit a certain note as if to emphasize a point I am trying to make..

Just 'tiel with it!.

  Hi Jazz
Well, Buffalo NY is just like us ... a lake-effect snow area. That's why we have so much snow all the time. We are getting close to the 50 inches of snow for this season so far :(
Oh yes, let's enjoy some hot chocolate.
This morning I woke to see the winter wonderland. Everything was white with lots of snow for dad to plow again ... hehehe. We got another 9 inches over night. Along with the cold, we will have daily snow starting on Thanksgiving morning. I have 2 new snow pics up for those who like it. I think I'll just go back to my perch for the day under the extra blankets.

  Hi Jazz
This morning was a fairly sunny day with temperatures in the 50's and it was warm considering how cold it was a few days ago.Mom got ready early and left to go to Nana's after she cleaned our cages and fed us our breakfast. Both Dixie and Mario had to stay home today as Mom was going down this end of town to complete her and Nana's Thanksgiving meal.Mom picked up Nana and they came back down to Hyannis and went to Trader Joe's and got some things, then they went to Joann's Fabric but didn't find anything there, then they went to Shaw's and both Nana and Mom got some things marked down and Mom paid her NStar bill there and then Mom went to the Post Office and then after that they headed back to Mashpee and went to Stop&Shop and got some things there and then to the nature food store, but Mom couldn't find any white millet for Mario there, then to Walgreen's,then back to Nana's where Nana made them some lunch of a salad with cranberries and zucchini on the side and toast. Then Mom came home around 4:30pm and as she was unpacking her car my dad came home and helped her finish unpacking while Mom came in and put the light on for us and fed and cleaned us out for the night. Then she made dad some dinner and now she is done with the dishes we are finally going to have Mom take our dictation so we can get our visits in!Mom had parked her car at Trader Joe's and when she came out her car was covered in seagull poop from top to bottom and now my dad has to clean that all off for her!
Our highs for the day were 59 and our lows will be 44.
They are talking some kind of storm for us here tomorrow,we are supposed to get one to two inches of rain and the temperatures are supposed to drop and if that happens the roads will freeze and my dad will have to go to work and we'll get no Thanksgiving! Some forecasts are calling for snow here and we have no idea who to believe!
Oh do I just love to chew on wood and I have been known to wreak havoc on most of my toys!Mom wouldn't let me anywhere near the bag she brought home with the stuff for us inside it!She brought it right up to her room so there would be no way we'd get to the bag and tear everything apart! Now I only wish I could get up those stairs and get to that bag but Mom says I have to wait for Santa Bird to come!
I agree with you I'm so glad I'm an indoor birdie also! How awful to have gotten 5 inches of that squishy snow there!I sure do hope that we don't get any of that here!
Wishing you a greyt day and I'm sending you all my love along with warm tiel hugs and soft tiel kisses!Loving you always and forever,Peepers

  Hi Jazz
Well, happy to report that Mom got back from driving her friend down to her disability hearing in time to blog, although it didn't go well. That darned judge sent her back for another doctor's visit after telling her she should try telemarketing! How rude! And he was late too. She and Mom had to wait an hour for him, then they got stuck in construction traffic on the way home. Mom's friend was not very happy.

At least it was still warm enough when Mom got home at 1 for us to share lunch and then go out for a sunbath at 1:30. I only got 30 minutes outside, but the vet said that is good for keeping my feathers healthy...and I do look amazing!

No biting today, and so far no cranky behavior at all. Mom's now got a pretty nasty bite from me on the back of each hand, so I had better cool it for a while. That first one is a week old and still looks awful. Who knew my beak was so sharp?

Susan and Riley Ann have joined the cheerleaders for the Milonga Bowl, and I forgot to announce our referees! They are C R Jake and RaneBeau; both are big boys who can stand up to anybirdy, even Jenny Lynn!

  Hi Jazz
Wow, I love the new toys! They are so cute!!!
I've missed you, but it's great to hear from you again.
Mom had fun at the wildlife center yesterday, she did the RVS animals again, which means she fed the bats. She loves doing that, they think they are so fierce, baring their teeth at her! She also did the raccoons outside, as well as the raccoon and ground hog inside.
Today we are going to make cornbread for the stuffing. I hope we all get a sample. If mom has the ambition, she will bake the pies, but she would prefer to wait until tomorrow so they will be fresher. Mom's daughter ordered a fresh local turkey which she will pick up after work and drop here on her way home.
Mom does have an errand today: she needs a 6 foot lead for Daisy's class tonight. She got the mat, the treats are ready, the clicker is in her pocket, but she doesn't have a small 6' leash. The one she has is really thick, too big for that little dog. I only hope she is able to teach that dog some manners! Mom has done her homework all week, so maybe there's a chance this dog will be better by the end of class.
I hope you are all having a good day. Don't forget to come by the Lakers page today to celebrate Thanksgiving with our team! Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Jazz
Good to hear from you.
We got 3 feet of snow when Buffalo NY got 6 feet. Then we had a two day melt. Now the water is ice and we are getting 6 to 9 inches of new snow.
Sorry every birdie ... couldn't get on the BC yesterday. We had 42 degrees with rain again today. It was nice to watch snow melt. We lost almost 1/3 of our snow. But, on Tuesday we will be back to 32 degrees with snow. I guess I have to put that extra blanket back on the perch tonight. How about sharing some hot chocolate with me? OOPS ... it's snowing already tonight!

Its sooo good to hear from you again,I sure have missed you lots! Oh how awful to have gotten some snow so early,we are waiting on a storm to come here but it will mostly be rain but it can be freezing rain!My Mom is going out tomorrow to finish shopping for Thanksgiving as she and Nana have a few more items to get as they couldn't get them the other day while they were out!It was a very dark, dismal, dreary day here with pouring rain but it was very warm,64 degrees which we could live with all year all winter, but they are warning us about a storm for Thanksgiving night right around dinner time and Nana and Mom are moving the meal up to more of a lunch so everyone will be home if it should get bad.
Those toys your sweet Momma is making sound really good!I too would love to get my beak into them also!LOL! I have been a good boy also and I thought I saw my Mom coming home with a package full of things from the pet store for us but I can't be sure just yet!

  Hi Jazz
Well, we have another heat wave on the way, although it is "just" upper 90s this time. Supposed to end by next Wednesday. I thought summer was over, but then in So Cal it is always summer.

For everybirdy admiring my new profile pic, it was a gift sent to me by my dear friend Dixie and his Mama Rose. I really love it, but I am not sure where she got it.

We are supposed to be in the mid 80s today, so I will have an noon or so sunbath. Then Mom is going to get her nails done. She will only be wearing her right contact lens, but since that is the weaker eye she can do it just fine. Fortunately the eye with the infection is the left one which is really good enough to see without a contact. And the antibiotic drops are working great. When Mom looks at the inside of her eyelid (ick!) the infection is no longer visible. She will keep using the drops for four more days as the doc told her to though. And the oral antibiotics for 10 days. Best part is that it doesn't hurt anymore, and she didn't have to go thru that lancing procedure! Sounded very painful.

We are having rice, mushrooms, spinach and Romano cheese for lunch. Mom made it last night, and it turned out very tasty. If you only get one solid meal a day, you want to enjoy it. And just three more weeks until Mom can eat bread and meat again. Of course, she will need to start out slow, but she can't believe how much she is craving a piece of grilled cheese sandwich. Guess you always want what you can't have.

  Hi Jazz
That's so neat, mom got her first 'tiel so long ago. A garage sale seems like not such a good place to find a bird, but I bet mom gave her a very happy home for as long as she lived. Knowing Joey loved her too is sweet.
Today is going to be a quiet one, mom will do some shopping, then later go to dinner with her sis, but she's ours for the day. Of course, that means major cage cleaning, but as long as she's with us, we love it.
Today was Falco's last day on the antibiotics, YAY. Yesterday she flew into the kitchen and solicited a bath, which is the first time that's happened since she hurt my leg in July. Mom thinks the wound on her side is nearly healed, there is just one tiny hard spot left. She will continue to put the healing ointment on it, but Miss Falco is doing quite well now! Thank you for all the support and prayers, Mom and Falco really appreciate it.
I hope you are having another beautiful day, we sure are. It's supposed to cloud up later and maybe rain, but it sure is nice right now. I also hope you get lots of hugs and scritchies today. Hugs from me, Peppino

Kiddo flying by with a quick reminder about the first annual Rodeo Milonga tonight hosted by our very own BOTM, Queen Chuey. The Rodeo Queen and her court will be introduced for the first event around 8:15PM EDT, so you won't want to be late. That will be followed by the Barrel Racing and finally the Mutton Bustin with awards to be presented to all winners. Then Sam with his Scruffy Birds will serenade us all while we chow down on Lizzie's fabulous country cuisine. Be there or be lonely!!

As for me I am having a greyt day. First thing breakfast with Mom, and then she and Dad ran to the grocery store to buy my sugar snap peas (and maybe some other stuff). Then Mom took me out for my sunbath, and it is so much cooler here today (mid 70s)even though we got out there at noon it was just balmy and nice. Then Mom and I shared lunch and now I am perched on her knee dictating my blogs. What better build up to the party tonight could a birdy ask for?

Mom says 20 years ago nobody would have cared if the computer was down for a few days, but now it's more important to all the humans. Did your mom make those toys while the computer was out of the house? If so, maybe it wasn't such a bad thing. They are really cute!
Falco is getting better each day. Today she actually let mom touch her sore side without trying to bite, so maybe it's starting to feel a lot better at long last.
Mom just got back from an outdoor event at Hartwood Acres, a beautiful part of the Burgh. It's called Hay Days and it stresses sustainable local shopping, energy, use of resources, and lots of green things in our area. Mom brought home a free book given by the library and a seed ball to plant for next year, a flower that attracts bees. 4 volunteers and the education director signed up for the event, so mom and her volunteer partner just did the first 3 hours, and the other 2 volunteers will do the last 2.
Chelsea Possum was a huge hit! Everyone flocked around to see her, get a free zipper pull or bottle opener, depending on whether the visitor was juvenile or adult.Mom even got asked about volunteer opportunities, which is great. All in all, it was a good day, complete with sunny weather.
Tonight is the milonga, and we can't wait to get there. It should be fun with the Rodeo Queen and her 4 Princesses presiding over the mutton busting and barrel racing events. Hope to see you there! Have a great day, whether or not you are attending tonight, though. Hugs, Peppino

We had another day of 60's and warming to 71 around 3 until 5pm and then cold again. I sat out with mom for a half hour trying to find a spot of sun. This is NOT what the weather people said we would have. I guess we have two more chances to get a warm day.

  Hi Jazz
Today we finally got the real cool down. Mom took me out for my sunbath at 8:55 so as to be sure I got sun before she went to the gym, but it was actually so cloudy it was a little cool. We only stayed the minimum (per the vet) of 20 minutes. However since today's high is 83 (YAY!!) it was so nice outside when Mom got home a bit before noon, we went out again for another sunbath. Then we came back in and shared rice and veggies for lunch. And I am now perched on Mom's knee dictating my blogs.

Well, Mom did it. She went to zumba after training with Becky today, and it went well. She had to really watch herself not to give in to the hip swaying and circling, because that is still a no no, and she also left after 40 minutes instead of staying for the whole hour. It wasn't that she was too tired, but she was worried about her tummy. She is being very careful. And boy, did she get a lot of hugs from all the zumba ladies! It was a great time for her, but me...not so much. I guess I have to accept that zumba is back to stay.

Is everybirdy remembering to go vote for Rodeo Queen? Remember every living bird in your flock gets one vote each day thru the 24th, so don't miss a single one.
So far every contestant has at least one vote, and I know when I go count this evening there will be even more. Will yours be there????

  Hi Jazz
We are the largest rehab center in southwestern PA, but if we don't have room, we have people in adjacent counties that may. We have a list of all the rehabs in PA, because we've gotten calls from across the state. In fact, mom has fielded calls from Houston TX, and some new England states. She usually refers them to their state game commission, though.
Today is Falco's 3rd day on the antibiotics, so mom got her 3rd bite today (on the arm instead of the hand this time). Only 11 more doses to go, heehee. She doesn't really like getting toweled and told what to swallow, but mom means well. We're wondering if anybirdie out there has a suggestion for probiotics, as well. Mom hates to buy benebac, because Falco's only one bird, they don't use it at the center any more, and those tubes are expensive. Has anybirdie tried a dot of yogurt? We think that may work, but we aren't sure. Mom says it would be such a tiny amount, it shouldn't hurt, be we'd like to be sure.
Mom cleaned the coyote pens today, and both boys are getting big. They should be gone soon, we think. Yesterday the 22 outdoor raccoons were released, YAY, and today about 6 turtles said goodbye to us and went home to the wild. It's really clearing out there. Martha's foster owlets went into the flight cage this morning after the red tailed hawk was released from there, so it's starting to slow down considerably at the center.
I hope you are having a good day today, even though these days are getting shorter and the weather is cooling down. Get lots of extra cuddles to keep you warm, okay? Hugs, Peppino

Who knows when the BC will shut down? They have a couple of other sites to shut down before us and they are still up and running with no stop date. The i5 people tried to shut down one site and messed everything up ... so almost 10 months later no one has been shut down.
The new site, Birdieville is up and you can load up your page. But, it's at a stand still. The people setting it up have illness in the family. So, there is more work to do on that.
Today was a cold day with a bit of sun. Mom & I did some house cleaning but mostly relaxed. Dad will be home tomorrow for dinner. I don't think he caught any fish. Mom & I would rather go out for dinner.
I made it to the 20K ... thanks Scoober!

  Hi Jazz
Glad you enjoyed the almonds. As long as Chicklet doesn't find them, they should last you a while.

Well, it is hitting triple digits here today, so Mom got me outside for my sunbath at 9:15. She was having a bit of trouble getting me to go into the carrier, but then Dad left to go to the bank. That meant we could go walkabout, and once I am settled comfortably on Mom's shoulder I then quite willingly climb into the carrier. So it was a nice sunbath, although I did start screaming when my mom went behind her lawn chair to water the gardenia tree. She was talking to me the whole time, but I couldn't see her which is unacceptable!

And although Mom started the blogging without me, because I didn't want to leave my room I am now on my spot on her knee while she types. She waits until I call her, and then she comes back to get me. Works every time, but I am not sure who is training who!

  Hi Jazz
Mom says all the volunteers there are devoted to the animals and their care.
Mom walked the dogs in the rain today, but the showers are supposed to end soon. We'll see, the weather guessers are usually wrong. Mom had to pull out capris and shirts with sleeves for today. It's pretty cool out, high 50s, and not expected to do much better as the day goes on. Mom has public tours today in dinosaur hall, and she's hoping to cut her tour time to a real mini tour today, between 35 and 40 minutes. We'll see...
Tomorrow mom will be working the Wild Rumpus event for the wildlife center. She will be taking care of Twitch the squirrel. He won't be the only one there, though. There will be at least 4 animals and their handlers throughout the obstacle course. This is the first time they've done this, so mom doesn't know quite what to expect, except for 5 hours outdoors and minding Twitch.
We'll let you know tomorrow afternoon what happened.
By the way, Twitch is the perfect example of why people shouldn't keep wildlife in their homes. He came to us after being kept as a 'pet' in a small cage for over a year. He was really fat, his tail is twisted irreparably, and he has metabolic bone disease from not being fed the proper diet growing up. He's called Twitch because of his seizures, as well. The poor boy is destined to be an education animal for as long as he lives, instead of being a healthy outdoor squirrel.
Hope you are having better weather than we are, more sun, more heat... And I hope you will get lots of cuddles today, too. Hugs, Peppino

I am afraid I did sample a few of them on the way over, but it is a long flight from So Cal to your BC.   Hi Jazz
Your mom does a great job on the toys!
We got a reprieve on the talons, it was a busy day at the center, and Bree had to be somewhere else in the early afternoon. So we're safe until next week.
Mom went to the center today and got there just in time to see the USDA inspector arrive. They pop in periodically to check on the animals and the cleanliness of the building. Guess what he found wrong? A cobweb in the upper corner of the possum cage and some thistle seed(finch food) spilled on a storage can lid in the kitchen! Talk about picky! Anyway the center passed with flying colors, he even complimented us on how well the animals looked.
Mom cleaned the RVS room again today, then went on to the the birds, cleaning the raptor aviaries, the small flight aviary, the main aviary, and the screech owl's enclosure in the other building. It was a very busy day, but mom feels she got a lot done.
I think she plans to read today, using her new glasses. It will be a good day for that, since it's much cooler today than it has been for awhile, only in the low 60s. I hope you are having a good day, getting lots of cuddles. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Jazz
Wishing you a very HAPPY HATCHDAY! Did you let Sugar know? It wasn't on the hatchday list.
I bet you had a wonderful day.
What a cold and dreary day we had. The high temps were 48 to 52 degrees ... BRRR! I had to wear my hoodie to keep warm.
Today we remember all the people lost in the WTC, Pentagon and Shanksville PA ... keeping them and the survivors in our thoughts and prayers.
Hugs

  Hi Jazz
You know your mom loves you a lot! Keeping you in toys is a fine way to show that! If we don't get here tomorrow, happy anniversary, too! I love the toys in your gallery! Did mom make them?
Mom expected to have a nice easy day today, maybe clean the fountain, do the front porch while the cleaning lady was doing the house. Instead, she took the bows she's been making back to the wildlife center. They are doing an event Sunday that will feature baskets for raffle, and Paw Prints is coming up soon, so they needed an abundance of bows for those raffle baskets, too. Anyway, she's been making bows for about a week and finished using all the ribbons last night. This morning she took them to get them out of the house but when she got there, she discovered the center was very short handed today. So mom, being mom, came home, changed into clothes she wears to clean in, and went back to the center where she cleaned the avian nursery and in between, took phone calls and admitted a squirrel and an owl for treatment. The avian nursery was really cool today, there are cedar waxwings, oven birds, and a Swainson's thrush in there with the common birds we usually see around here, robins, cowbirds, doves, etc.
So it's after 12, maybe the fountain will get done today, maybe not. Tomorrow mom has her final post op with her eye doctor, who is going to give her a prescription for new glasses, she hopes. If that happens, we probably won't blog until late in the day, if at all. So if you don't hear from me, don't worry. I hope you are having a great day today, with pleasant weather and lots of love coming your way. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Jazz
I think we get a lot of storms because we have so much water around us. We aren't inland.
Congrats on your one year anniversary with mom. Is this your "official" hatchday? I hope you have that registered with Sugar.
We had a beach day today! Or, I should say, we had 4 good hours!!! Unfortunately, dad had errands and golf so no beach for mom. But, mom & I sat on the patio soaking in our few hours of summer. Here comes the rain again, and then down to the 50's temps!!!
Hugs

  Hi Jazz
I love yelling! I especially love it when mom is watching something on TV or on the phone, then it's time to sing her the song of my people!
Today we are just doing a short note, as mom has to get to the museum by 12 for 2 tours. We may finish blogs when she gets back, if we can't do it beforehand. She knows the second tour is in dinosaurs, but doesn't remember who the first tour is for. She will have to wait until she gets there to see! Serves her right for not writing it down 2 weeks ago when she got the schedule. Meanwhile, it's a gloriously sunny and warm day here, now that the pool is closed. I hope you are having a good weekend, getting lots of love and cuddles, not to mention some good weather, too. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Jazz
Well mom didn't go for the beach sand in the sink idea ... darn it. I thought it was greyt!
I'm back! What a week we had ... tornado, severe t-storms, flooding ... so many power lines and trees down on roads! Last night was an all night LOUD t-storm with no power. We finally got our power and internet (and phones) back tonight. I was scared and whimpering a lot. I didn't like that very LOUD noise that shook the house for hours. Mom made me take a long nap today and early to bed tonight. We were lucky, only a few trees down with power lines on two different nights. We lost trees on our property too. Hope every bird is fine, missed you.
Hugs

  Hi Jazz
Falco told me to write to you today! Hope that's okay with you.
Wow, in case you didn't hear yet, mom got the best news yesterday. She went to the retina doc, expecting another shot, but they took pics, she reviewed them, and told mom it looks like it's under control, no bleeding! No SHOT!!! Mom has to go back on Oct. 6 for a recheck, since it could recur at any time, but it's looking great for now! Mom was so happy that after she treated her sister (driver) to lunch, she took her to the Italian pastry shop and bought her and her husband treats for dinner, too. The next checkup is right before Parrot Palooza, and mom is optimistic about getting a good report then as well.
Mom did the outdoor raptors this morning, as well as the menagerie animals. It is nice to work in an area where she could talk to the critters today for a change. She also returned little gray squirrel girl, since she's eating on her own and not needing hand feedings any more. Now she just has little boy fox squirrel to foster. He shouldn't be here more than a week more, either.
I hope you are having a good day, getting lots of sunshine and warm cuddles. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Jazz
Mom will have her prescription glasses soon, so will be looking for something to read. She misses that!
The water problem turned out to be a leak in the water main, so they fixed it by about 1 o'clock yesterday, and were on their way. Mom doesn't get the bill, since it was a main. They put grass seed on the land they replaced, but they did not replace the day lilies, sunflowers, clematis, and cosmos they dug up with the backhoe. Mom doesn't care if the grass grows or not. Next year, she will replant the area, and hopes everything will grow. There is also a large container with annuals in that they moved, and didn't replace. It's too heavy for mom to move, so maybe next year it will become a shade garden for annuals, unless she can get the lawn guys to move it back.
Mom has to leave soon for her retina doc appointment, so we gotta hurry today.
I hope you are having a great summer day. Get lots of love and cuddles! Hugs, Falco
