  Hi Junior
SHHHHHHHH!, Mikey D here at Widow's Creek. The place looks abandoned, not a bird in sight. Suddenly, outta the brush Black Bart's mite-infected side-kicks appear, guns poised at the ready. Mikey D takes a deep breath, and steps down from the lazy-board, and nods to the other drivers to follow suit. Cautiously, every nerve on the ready, the BC team moves to join the trail Boss.
"Far enough, now back off from them there wagons" a surly lookin' Raven orders, his six-shooter aimed at Mikey D. " fella's you take a gander and make sure them wagons have the treasure Bart wants."
Cappy and the tunnel birds have broken through the dirt and have slowly pried on the saloon floor until the boards are loose. Cappy is on high alert waiting for the signal. The tunnel birds are all ready to make their move and just wait in silence until Cappy hears the signal to burst through the floor and save Jesse.
"Wow, we tunnel birds did quick work." Pearl whispers to Silver waiting in the darkness," All the cowbirdies are eggcited and scared but more than prepared to do their assigned duties to carry out the rescue of Jesse as soon as the Trail Boss gives the order. They listen for the sound of Sky's double-barrel shot gun. Cookie shakes dust and dirt from his feathers after digging and stands waiting in silence. Dixie and Kallie along with Peepers and Celine all worked hard to move that dirt out from the tunnel they were building to connect to the saloon. They can't wait to save Jesse from Black Bart's clutches.
Mikey D, looks at the gang of thieves, then at the wagons. " Ok, you got everything ya wanted, now let my friends walk outta here peaceful-like"
"NO, Bart ordered us to take ya all hostage and bring you all back to town. You, come with me" he points at Pookie, one of the drivers, we're gonna go check out the loot. If there's any funny-business he's gonna get it. Hear me?" he growls angrily. Mikey D shakes his head, and waits not sayin' a word. He over-hears one of the bandits call the surly Raven, "Badact".
"WAIT! Badact ya sure you really wanta hand over all this treasure to Black Bart? You all kno' he ain't gonna share it with ya!" this gets the bandit-birds grumblin' among themselves. The plan is working. If they can convince these scoundrels that Black Bart is goin' to take everything they just might get them to turn against their leader.
Badact grabs Pookie by the shirt-collar and marches him to the sixth wagon, stoppin' to think for a moment, he then reaches his wing out to pull open the back of the canopy. He stops dead in his tracks as Kiddo jumps up, his gun leveled at Badact's head. The action gives everyone of the BC team time to dive for cover. Kiddo shoots over Badacts head, startling him, " feelin' lucky?" Kiddo yells angrily. Sky jumps out of his wagon bed, shooting his gun into the air, the double barrel echoing clear to the Ghost Town, signaling the Tunnel Birds into action. All chaos breaks loss

  Hi Junior
Howdy, Mikey D here, at the camp readying to head into Widow's Creek. Cappy the tunnel-bird champ and his crew are already heading towards the Ghost Town, digging their tunnel quickly under Black Bart's beak, and moving in to place to rescue Jesse from their felonious grasps.
Ms BB rides back quietly into camp, unseen by the busy birds, it isn't until she speaks they realize she is there, " the tunnel birds are gettin' near the saloon! I seen a big pile of dirt outside of camp. Black Bart still has not shown himself. Some of his gang are still at Widows Creek waiting for the surprise you have planned for them. The group have got the horses away unnoticed and should have them here in the remuda any minute."
"It's time everyone!" Mikey D says loudly enough to be heard by all, "OK drivers, carporals act real casual-like, and don't let them know anythings up! Gun-birds, stay safe, wait for the signal, " Where's that feather-plucked rat?" before you come out shootin' and may God be with us!"
"The horses are stashed safely among the herd of cattle and mules, " Peppino reports to the others.
"Everybirdie knows the part they must play to successfully rescue Jesse and keep us and our cargo safe. Black Bart will regret messing with us again." Silver exclaims, as he and Pepper check their weapons.Pookie says "I'm all ready lets start heading out. I've got my rifle along with a night vision scope attached. I never leave home without it." he climbs up into the wagon. Peepers,Celine and the rest of the Dixie flock are all eager to help dig and be tunnel birds! They all grab a shovel to show Mikey D just how strong and fast they can be! Cappy directs the work, as dirt flies quickly out of the tunnel. Kaji takes a quick look of the work and reports back to the others that the tunnel is nearly finished.
"Let's move'em out!" Mikey D calls as he snaps the reins of his team and pulls them out onto the rough, rutted road. Kiddo spins around and draws his gun to show he is ready for Black Bart before jumping up onto the back of one of the empty wagons, joining the others hidden away in the beds of the Schooners. They move along at a slow walk, no birdie eager for what is to come. In the distance Mikey D spies Widow's Creek and can just make out a small figure of a bird watchin' them.
The Tunnel completed, Cappy waits for a few minutes to regroup his team before them head inside to make their way towards the saloon. They check their guns, and follow into the darkness. They wait to hear the signal shot from Sky at the Widow Creek. Then they will bust through the final inches of dirt and bust into the back of the saloon to save Jesse. Falco and Chyna take a deep breath as they wait. Very bird's nerves are on edge, ready to swing into action......
Mikey D holds up his wing, as they pull carefully into the opening at Widow's Creek..
see ya tomorrow, MIKEY D

  Hi Junior
WELL HOWDYYYY!, Mikey D finally back online. WOW, no net was sure tough. Didn't know how we'd make it much longer. Thankfully we can just pick on up were we left off. We gathered together to plan our rescue of Jesse and a greetin' for Black Bart he'd not soon forget. Lizzie had rustled up a great meal, but nobirdie seem too hungry with so much about to take place. With the wagons unloaded, and Apache, Bon Bon. Angel and Willie standin' guard we set about makin' plans on how to carry out our mission.
" I have scouted out Widow's Creek." Ms BB explained, " There is 1 road through the creek with lots of cover to hide in. That's bad for us cause Black Bart has his gang hid in it. I seen the movements they made back and forth to their horses. " BB paused for emphases "The cover is good for us cause we can sneak up & get the drop on them. Maybe a few birds can sneak in & lead their horses away.?"
"Now, that sounds like a workable idea, " Zippy says eager to get goin' and save Jesse. "I volunteer to go!"
"I will too" Parker adds. " Me too!" Flitzer offers.
"OK, you be careful. Take their horses back around the creek, and into our remuda for safe keepin. But be careful." Mikey D says, patting them each on the shoulder. He knows he's picked the best birds to do that job. Angel-tiel, Pepper and Peppino join the group as they ride out of camp to carry out their mission. Angel & Pepper are happy to help the birdies execute the "surprise" for Black Bart!
"We need to get these wagons hitched and ready." Sky adds looking at Mikey D for direction. "I'll be honored to be in the wagon as I'm a good shot." Pookie steps forward eager to do his share to help. Cookie and Spot get their guns ready, they know the team will out smart that rotten Black Bart and his gang.
"We're ready to do whatever part we need to help rescue Jesse and keep everybirdie, cargo, etc. safe." Pearl and Silver check their weapons and smiling, join the volunteers climbing into the now empty wagons.
Cappy steps up to help Mikey D and Sky lead the attack. "I'm very proficient with a sling shot lol. " he begins to pick out shooters to be in his wagon. Kiddo re-loads and speaks up "I have my six shooter loaded and ready to go!" he hops into the wagon bed ready to fight. Cappy asks "has anybirdie thought of digging a tunnel into the town? ... Cappy explains he is very adept at digging escape tunnels .
"NOW, that's a plan" Mikey D says grinning widely, We need tunnel birds quick! Any volunteers? Wings go up all over camp. "Cappy, you take all the tunnel-birds you need and head into town. Tunnel your way carefully towards the saloon. "Jesse!, we'll be there soon!"

  Hi Junior
Howdy partners, Mikey D here with our Thursday update. Things had taken a turn for the worse, when SKY and GUS came up with a plan that might just work to help us free Jesse and keep our cargo safe. Black Bart, that low0down dirty bird bird-napped Jesse as he rode a lame mule back to the remuda. That rotten scoundrel has his black, beady eyes fixed on stealin' our cargo, taken our wagons and riding off with our mules and herd. Well, let me be tellin' ya, there ain't no way we's gonna be givin' that low-flyin' thief and his gang of lice-bitten villains anything, and we're gonna be show him in no uncertain terms.
" Here comes a lone rider Boss!" Cappy yells out from his look-out position in a nearby tree. "It's Miss BB". Miss BB gallops into the camp & dismounts. "Boss, I did not see any way we can get into that Saloon in the ghost town without being seen. There are guards on top of the buildings. Mr Sky's plan sounds like the best chance of success. Sky and Gus are right about Black Bart. He & his gang are not that bright. Just downright mean & ornery. I volunteer to be in one of the empty wagons. " she exclaims a growl in her voice.
The group of birds burst out in a loud cheer of triumph. " We'll take on that stealin' bird-nappin' feather-duster of a hooligan." One and two by twos the birds offer their wings in this battle to save Jesse and protect their precious freight of Birdie-treats.
"You know I'm with you!" Sugar yells high-fouring Mikey D."You could put Lizzie in that wagon. I guarantee you that is all you need to do." Kaji says, as Lizzie demonstrates her fire power for everybirdie.
"You're right, she'd toast him, but good. We gotta make sure we get Jesse back first, then she can practice her flame-thrownin' skills" Sky says laughing. The others join in and soon everyone is laughing at the image of Black Bart meeting Miss Lizzie.
"Now, that's fire-power" Flitzer adds." there sure ain't no shortage of volunteers to take on Black Bart. I certainly want to be a member of this mission to rescue Jesse!' Kiddo tells Dory and Polly.
"ok, we're all in agreement. Let's get these wagon's unloaded quick. I need some riders to head out to the remuda and have them bring the herd close in. Miss BB, you, Sky, and a few volunteers ride out to get the Beakerton Agents out on the trail still. We have a big party to plan for and right quickly too!" Mikey D assigns the work and heads to his wagon with Chuey to begin the job of unloading the freight. " We'll need to have gun-birds stay here to guard the hidden cargo." he takes a deep breath. Time is running by fast and they had much to do if their plan was going to work.
It isn't long before everybirdie is gathered together, working to prepare for the surprise that was awaitin' Black Bart and his gang come sundown at Widow's Creek.

  Hi Junior
Mikey D here after a day's absence. I must say Mr Sky ( Sky Flock) looks rather handsome with his beak and nails all trim and polished. Then to make it worse he got a huge wooden toy from Chuey's Chewable Bird Toy Creations. Geesh, I had to sit here and tend mules all day in the hot sun whilst I fretted some over how we'd get Jesse back from Black Bart. As I was sittin' astride the lazy-board on the wagon, driving these tired, sweaty mules Ms BB came ridin into our midst.

"I had a short meeting with The Bird yesterday up in the hills. He/she has had a hard time getting away from Black Bart. The Bird said "Black Bart & his gang have Jesse in their camp in the ghost town. They are in the saloon." I hope this intel helps. I am going to scout the ghost town for ways to get in without being seen" with this message she wheeled her steed and galloped off into the distance before I had a chance to ask any questions. The whole message has me troubled now. We have until sundown to figure out a way to rescue Jesse, before we have to deal with Black Bart. There ain't no way, no how we're gonna hand over our wagon train to the likes of that feathered rascal.
Lizzie is thoroughly disgusted." I shoulda toasted Black Bart last time," she thinks. "Now he has Jesse. I know I should just pay attention to my cooking but I sure do have a mind to torch that dastardly demon. " she exhales a puff of smoke and fire in her anger. Kaji looks at her, and grins. Black Bart just might have bitten off more then he can handle this time.
Mikey D calls a break, pulling off into a nice cool grove of cottonwood trees that grow by a shallow river bank. The perfect place for a quick, make-shift camp and rest. Everyone needs a break and somethin' good in their bellies, then they will figure out how to rescue Jesse from that bad varmint Bart. BB was off scouting the Ghost Town, and no doubt would be back soon with the intel they needed to make a quick, safe mission of it. Even the smell of roasting beef and bread wasn't enough to stop that knot of worry in Mikey D's stomach.

Sky and Gus arrive at the camp, and tend their team. Washing up in the river they hurry to find Mikey D. " We've been thinkin' boss, we might have a plan that just might work. You see, Black Bart isn't that bright, just mean and ornery so we were thinkin' that if we were to unload the wagons and deliver them to him at the Widow's Creek. Instead of freight we have gun-birds stowed away inside the wagon beds and when he comes to check them out, we gett'um good. He won't even suspect a thing. We act all afraid and all when we pull into the rendezvous place. We can teach that rat bird a lesson he'll never forget.
Mikey D listens carefully and smiles. It might just work, if everybirdie can play along with the plan. But "Is there enough birds willing to take on Black Bart?" he asks out loud hopeful that they can win this battle.
see ya tomorrow, Mikey D

  Hi Junior
Hello everybirdie, Mikey D here on the Old Spanish Trail. As we push on past Abiquiru we urge the teams into a fast trot, trying to put some distance behind us, and Black Bart. Leaving behind Kaji, Lizzie, Peppino and Zippy to re-stock the supplies, with Sugar, Apache, and Flitzer, agents from the Beakerton Security Company, to escort the wagon and supplies as they hurry to rejoin the wagon-train Mikey D sighs in relief. The day has turned out sunny and warm, and a soft breeze blows bringing promise of better weather to come.
Way out in front of the wagons scoutin' trail BB looks back & sees a mule being led by a horse. The mule has a slight limp. She thinks to herself, as she watches from a long distance, "That will slow down the remuda some. Think I will do a round about & look for track & sign on the sides. Dont need to lose any of our extra mounts & pulling stock to Black Bart." She wheels her mount, Sun Dancer around begins to move off, but stops suddenly and turns. Taking out her binoculars she watches the pair of animals as they move towards the remuda. Then she sees what had caused her to turn around. she hadn't been imagining things, "there's no rider on the horse." BB clicks to her horse, and urges her into a gallop as she covers the ground between herself and the incoming horse and mule.
Pepper and Sweetpepper see BB racing towards the remuda and ride in her direction before they too spot the incoming riderless horse. BB catchs the horse who is walking at a slow pace due tot he limping mule. Pulling on the reins that are looped over the saddle-horn, bringing the pair to a halt. Then BB sees it. A note, tacked crudely to the saddle. Checking out the surrounding area carefully first, she takes the note in talon, as Pepper and Sweetpepper pull up beside her. BB unfolds the note and reads it out loud.
"IF ya ever wanta see your driver Jesse again in the feather, you' ole best be plannin' on meetin us at Widow;s Creek at sundown tomorrow."
Sweetpepper whistles loudly, shaking her head in disbelief. The color drains out of BB's face as the impact of the note hits home. "Black Bart has Jesse for ransom. " She shakes her head slowly, " this ain't good, ain't good at all. I have to get word to The BIRD somehow, somewhere."
Leading the horse and mule into the remuda, Pepper unsaddles the horse and let's it go to graze. The three look at one another for a long minute in silence. " I'm goin' head to the wagons to tell Mikey D, and then go in search of the Bird. We have to try to get Jesse back without handing over everything to that low-life scoundrel. We have only one day to come up with a plan and save our friend!"Miss BB spurs her horse into a gallop, dust rising behind them in her need to get back to the wagon train, and pass on the note to Mikey D, Wagon Master.

  Hi Junior
Howdy, Mikey D here from the Wild West. It seems that we were waitin' on Black Bart but he hasn't been seen, hide or feather. It's never good to take things for granted, but today, as we stop for a quick meal, and to rest our tired teams, life seems pretty bright and hopeful. Our trip has ben pretty free of mishaps, only one broken wheel, and now, Jesse and Gus have a lame mule to exchange. Heck, that's nothin' compared to some of the problems travelers encounters on the old trails in the 1800s.
" Mikey D, I will ride back to the remuda Boss, and exchange this old gal, for another mule. She's dun hurt herself on a rock, and cracked her hoof. I've tarred it good, but she ain't ready for no more pullin' right now." Jesse explains, as he saddles up a spare mount from the group of grazin' horses. "I won't be long, and then we'll be ready to move out when the rest of ya are done eattin'."
"Ok, be careful, Black Bart and his ragged bunch of varmints are sneakin' around somewheres."
Jesse ties the mule to the saddle horn, and springs into the saddle, kneeing the dunn mare into a slow walk, the mule limping slightly behind her. With the tip of his hat, he turns the bend in the road, and disappears out of sight.
" Come and getter" Kaji calls, hitting the triangle with the soup spoon. It doesn't take another call to get the hungry travelers lined up for grub. Mikey D and Chuey fill their plates with hot beans, bacon and beef. The smell making their beaks water. " Smells delicious as always!" Mikey says smiling at Lizzie, Kaji and the cooks' helpers dishin' out the food.
" Jesse rides the horse watchful of the landscape about him. The sun is warm and a slight soft breeze cools his sweaty body off. Driving the team is hard, tiring work, but the adventure is awesome he thinks to himself as his mind begins to wander. He thinks of Falco riding with the remuda. He hasn't seen her much during the trip, so this will be a nice break and opportunity to visit at least for a short while. Jesse gives the mare her head, and lets her pick her own path along the road as he back-tracks to the outskirts of the wagon-train where the remuda waits and grazes.
Mikey D finishes up and waits for the drivers and carporals to finish eating before gathering everybirdie togetehr for a short meeting. " We're nearing Abiquiru, but we need to keep moving on towards our goal. We will have Kaji and Lizzie and a few riders stop for fresh supplies, and continue along the trail. We will meet up later at the night stop. We need as much distance between us and Black Bart as we can possibly gain. I don't trust that scoundrel."
The general agreement is to go along with the plan, leaving only a half dozen birds back to get supplies, with some Beakertons' agents as escorts just in case they might run into troubles.
"I wonder where Jesse is?" Gus says

  Hi Junior
Hello, Mikey D here, on the rough, rutted road from Santa Fe headin' towards California with our wagon train of precious birdie supplies. With the day bright and sunny, we are making good time as we drive towards Abiquiru. Cookie and Spot have taken over the lead, with Raffi and Cydney followin' behind them. This is giving me a break from the pressure of keeping both eyes alert and watching for any sign of that scoundrel Black Bart.
Kaji and Lizzie follow in the chuck wagon. The decision to remain togetehr rather then having them move on ahead was a wise choice. Lizzie grins as she tells Kaji. " Hmm. Shoulda torched Black Bart when I had the chance on the last trip," she thinks to herself. A curl of smoke comes out of her nostril "He better be careful...we might have Blackened Bart if he tries anything." She smiles to herself.
Raffikki snaps the whip to urge the mules into a quick trot, and turning to Cydney he says with fire in his eyes,"YeeeeHawwww! I am ready for Black Bart! Bring it on buddy!" Cydney grins, knowing that her sweetie Raffi would protect her and their cargo.
Miss Bb rides from the remuda where she'd been riding scout to report to Mikey D, pulling her mount beside the moving wagon she relays the news, "I seen strange tracks on the trail west. Lots of tracks on both sides and a 2 day old campfire in the hills. I have not seen The Bird in a few days & I am startin' to get worried about him/her." After a brief discussion, BB pulls rein to head back to the herd, "Well I am headin' back out to scout the trail after I get something warm to eat at the Cantina. I am tired of chewing on jerky in town. Keep your eyes open, your heads turning & your 6 shooter close to your wing." with that she gallops back down the trial.
Mikey D shakes his head, looking back down the trail as BB disappears into the dust raised by the wagons. "Chuey, we're sure lookin' for some troubles I'm thinkin'. Black Bart isn't easily discouraged once his mind is set on things. We're gonna have to drive double shifts, and set up Rifflemen on the wagons, just in case."
Chuey thinks long and hard before she smiles and answers. " Mikey D, we have a great group of riders, drivers and carporals, and the Beakerton Agents with us will keep everyone safe. Every birds a crack-shot. Don't worry, we'll get these wagons through." she grins softly at Mikey D hoping to give him some peace about all this.
As the sun begins its descent towards the horizon, the wagons pull to a stop by a slow-movin' brook, and set about making a quick meal. As the cooks busy themselves with preparations, the drivers and carporals tend to their tired mules. it's during this time that Jesse and Gus notice one of their lead mules has cracked its hoof, likely on a sharp rock in the road. With a lame mule it will mean riding out to the remuda to exchange animals before dark.

  Hi Junior
Hi fellow adventurers, Mikey D here with our Friday post on the trek across the USA with our special cargo. With BC actin' funny again, I sure hope we make it there safely. With Sweetpepper and Kacey's message about Black Bart, the whole future sure looks dark and ominous. Many of ya will recall Black Bart and his gang of thugs from our Cattle Drive last year. HE sure tried his darnedest to side-swipe us cow-birdies, but thanks to Jenny-Lynn and her group of scouts, his plans were squashed like a bug, and the cattle arrived safely in Wyoming.
"Kacey, can ya please go round up the Drivers and Carporals, we best be havin' us a meetin' and make some plans so's we can make it to California safe and sound."
"Sure Boss, be right back." Kacey races off to gather everybirdie for the meeting, while Mikey D paces anxiously. " I wonder what we can do to foil his plans?"
" What's up Boss?" Pearl asks as he and Silver hurry to join him outside the Livery.
"Black Bart" is all Mikey D can reply, as he thinks of a plan for action.
It isn't very long before all have gathered back together, a worried look on every face. A whisper fills the air as the concerned birds try to figure out what's happened.
Mikey D stops suddenly, and jumps onto the back of the nearest wagon so everybirdie can see and hear him better. He looks intently at his friends, he feels a sense of happiness to be with such brave, heroic birds, when faced with such a big problem as Black Bart. He shutters, then slowly he begins to explain what Sweetpepper and Kacey's search has exposed.
"Well, I hate to bring us bad news, but indeed bad news it is. Our Night riders, while watchin' over the remuda outside of town have uncovered Black Bart and his gang of hoodlums. The BIRD has sent back word, that Black Bart has set his eyes upon our wagon train and even now is makin' plans to ambush us along the trail. Accordin' to the BIRD he will attack somewhere between here, in Santa Fe and Abiquiru where we pick up the Old Spanish Trail. If the opportunity fails for him, we will be at his mercy as we begin to travel through hostile and formidable territory." Mikey D stops to allow the news to sink in, before finishing. "we will have to drive hard, every-bird on alert, guns at the ready."
It remains quiet for a few minutes, then a cheer rises from the gathered travelers. " We will beat him at his own game once more!" the BC friends high four one another as they agree to stand together against Black Bart and his thugs, or anybirdie else who might mistakenly think they can steal their precious supplies destined for needy birds in the sunny south-west. Mikey D sighs a relieved sigh as he smiles to himself. These are brave and fearless birds he has along with him on this dangerous trip.
"Ok, let's hitch up and get movin', we want to cover as much distance as possible by sun down.
See ya tomorrow, MIKEY D

  Hi Junior
Howdy partners, Here"s Mikey D with a quick update on our Adventure into the Old West. With the wheel repaired and the team re-hitched we high-tailed it for Santa Fe at a fast trot. Well, fast as we could considerin' the rough road we traveled. With the ruts and rocks that riddled the old El Camino trail, we near shook out our tail feathers. The driver had to sit mighty tight on the Lazy-seat bench or be tossed clear off their wagons. But 'bout dawn we finally saw Santa Fe rising up in the horizon. Let me be tellin' yah, we sure breathed a sigh of relief to see them there wood buildings dotting the view ahead. The Old El Camino Real Trail is today's U.S Route 101, historically the closest to the officially recognized El Camino Real.
"WHOA!" Mikey D yells as he stomps down onto the brake handle causing the mules to slow then stop. Mikey shakes the reins to walk the tired critters towards the water trough outside the feed store. Chuey jumps down and rushes inside, returning in a minute, directing Mikey D to take the teams to the stockyard fence beside the livery where they can be unhitched, rubbed down and cared for. As the teams are set loose, the birds wander through the street, stopping to look in the wooden fronted stores. The wooden sidewalk is a busy place as birds hurry to shop, and pick up needed supplies.
"I'll stand watch over the wagons boss" Bon Bon, and Parker can help too
"Ok, make sure nobirdie gets to close. You never know who might be in town and lookin' for some easy loot. Mikey D tips his Stetson and hurries off to the livery stable.
"Parker, you set up top and keep watch, I'll patrol from down here." Bon Bon instructs, as she shoulders her shot-gun and heads to work. " Flitzer, you stayin' to watch too?"
"Yes madam," Flitzer, pulls his gun and stands guard behind the parked wagons. His eyes watching every movement in the dusty streets. It isn't long before birds begin to wander back to their mounts. Cappy takes one of the horse hitched to the rail and rides back, outta town to the Remuda with several bags of supplies. He returns shortly with Susan and Chipper. They ground hitch their horses and spring down from the saddle, disappearing into the livery where Mikey D is paying the fees for the food and care the mules had received.
Mikey D reappears quickly, a worried expression on his face. He finds Sugar and Finnegan, the heads of Security and quickly relates the information he'd received from Chipper and Susan.
"Kacey and Sweetpepper, riding watch had found traces of several horses crossing their path, heading due west of Santa Fe. They'd followed for a short while, and came across signs that it was Black-Bart and his gang, following closely on their heels. As they made the crest of a hill, THE BIRD, had appeared from the shadows, to pass word that Black-Bart had his mind set on taking not only the wagons, but the mules and remuda too.

  Hi Junior
Howdy all, Mikey D here on the El Camino trail heading towards Santa Fe. We've been side-swiped by our first accident along the trail. The rutted dusty road has cost us a broken wheel on the wagon bein' driven by Buddy and Pedro. Thankfully no birdie was injured, but the delay put us behind in our attempt to reach the city last evenin'. When birds hit the old trails these break downs of wagons and gear weren't uncommon, and put bird against nature to the test many a time. Thankfully we had loaded a few extra wheels into the supply wagon. The wagon was built with its floor curved upward to prevent the contents from tipping and shifting. It could carry up to 12,000 pounds (5,400 kg) of cargo. The seams in the body of the wagon were stuffed with tar to protect them from leaking while crossing rivers. Also for protection against bad weather, stretched across the wagon was a tough, white canvas cover. The frame and suspension were made of wood, and the wheels were often iron-rimmed for greater durability. Water barrels were built on the side of the wagon, toolboxes held tools needed for repair, and a feed box on the back of the wagon was used to feed the mules. The early freight wagon was not intended to be ridden upon. The wagon had a break handle on the left side between the two wheels and a teamster either walked beside the wagon or could ride standing (and could sit for a rough ride) on a pull-out board, called a lazy board, that provided access to the break handle. The left mule near the wagon is referred to as the wheel horse and was sometimes ridden. The Prairie Schooner wagon began the "driving" on the right-hand side of the road.
Hitching a pair of mules to the side of the wagon, we set it up onto an old stump we'd rolled over to brace the wagon while we replaced the broken wheel.
"Ok everybirdie, PUSHHHH" Mikey D calls out, as every wing offers help to set the wagon up on the stump. " Careful, watch your wing tips."
"Ok Boss, we gotter in place" Kiddo calls as the wagon settles onto the make-shift support. Sky and Kaji climb onto the supply wagon, and pull the new wheel out onto the ground. Raffi grabs it and begins to roll it over to the waiting group. Gus and Jesse run to give a wing to Raffi as they guide it to the place it's needed. Dixie, Silver and Cappy grab one side of the heavy, awkward wheel, while Sky and Raffi lift the other. Kaji and Lizzie push it onto the central axle as Kiddo swings the heavy hammer to knock it on tightly. With the wheel finally centered, and the pins replaced, the wagon is once more lifted by mule power to remove the stump. Wiping dust and sweat from their brows, the birds look at the sun, " four hours, not bad. I am surprised it went on so quickly." Mikey D exclaims relieved that they can once more hitch up and move along the trail. A broken wheel on the frontier left travelers subject to all kinds of danger.

  Hi Junior
Howdy all, Mikey D here, on the Old Spanish Trail as we head towards sunny California. At the short stop over for rest Norman comes quietly to Mikey D who is sitting by the warm fire, sipping some of Lizzies coffee.
"Boss, there's a short-cut to Santa Fe. If we cut off ahead an' take the El Camino Real Trail, we'll cut off a day's drive then we can head back over to the California Real Trail to San Diego. We might even miss Black Bart by foolin' that scoundrel."
Mikey thinks for a long moment then rubbing his beak, " We'll do it. Ya know the way buddy?"
"Nope, but it won't be difficult to locate the turn. There's markers up pointin' the way."

Mikey D heads off to talk to the drivers, wakin' them up for a brief discussion of the change of route. Before long, everybirdie is made aware of the change and Bon Bon who had ridden in to pass the "all clear" message, has headed off to get Finnegan and Sugar and the Beakerton Agents moving off towards the El Camino. As the very faint light of dawn touches the sky, the teams are already hitched, and shifting anxiously in their traces.Mikey D jumps up onto his bench, taking the reins in wing and with a shout and a crack of the whip over their back into the air, the mules lean into their harnesses, and the wagon train is on the road once more. After a quick three miles, the El Camino turn appears ahead, and Mikey D directs his team to switch routes. The road is a simply dirt trail, and perhaps in places no more than a footpath. Heavily used by cattle herds it is pitted with ruts and turned up sod, making for a very jerky and rough drive.
Norman rides up to speak to Mikey D in the lead wagon. " Boss, I'm riding ahead some to check the road". With a tip of the hat, and a spur to his mount, he trots off over the hills ahead. Mikey D watches Norman disappear and wipes the sweat and dust from his face. Just as he clicks to get the team moving a little faster, he hears a loud scream and a crack, that echos like thunder. Pulling back on the reins, he stomps down on the wooden brake stick to bring his team to a halt. Once stopped he ties the reins to the bench and springs down as fast as he can move.
"What happened?" he yells as he hurries back among the stopped wagons. Then he sees it. the fifth wagon has tipped to the side, dumping cargo and supplies on the ground. He rushes to check that Buddy and Pedro are ok. Seeing them working to unhitch the team he races to offer help. Sky and Cappy also hurry to their aid. " What happened?" Mikey D asks bewildered. Then he sees it. The right rear wheel is split into pieces, causing the wagon to tip over. "Thank goodness you both are ok."
see ya tomorrow, Mikey D

  Hi Junior
Hello everybirdie, Mikey D here with today's update on our Mission to deliver supplies to California. Mule trains were the norm in the early to late 1800s. Due to their sturdy, rugged nature, and incredible intelligence mules became extremely popular as farmers, freighters and cartage companies began to see their incredible worth and value. Unlike horses or oxen who required large pasturing and tired easily, the Mule, could work long, grueling hours in dry, sparse areas and tended to do very well with less or poor quality water. Not saying that they could survive indefinitely under these conditions. Mules are stockier, more muscular and have powerful front structures better adapted to weight pulling, making them able to bear up to four-times the weight that a horse can.
Mules are less temperamental than horses and easier to train for any type of work. Mule's skin is harder and tougher. It can withstand extreme temperatures better than a horse and can go longer without water. It has harder hooves and is more sure footed on rocky terrain. A mule needs only 4-5 hours of sleep a day and goes just over 3 mph or about 50 miles in a day. So it is easy to see why stealing mules became a priority to "highway-men" thieves who preyed on wagon trains and lone riders. The mules often fetchin' them more cash, then the contents they carried in the wagons.
Some of histories famous Highwaymen included, James Ford, Ford's Ferry Gang, river pirates and highway robbers. Robert H "Three-fingered" Birch, Birch Banditti of the Prairies, and The Prairie Bandits Gang, famous for attacking wagon trains belonging to freighting companies. The American West was filled with legend and adventure, as up-right, honest men turned to a life of robbery and killing. Raiding the trains of wagons being an "easy" income for the ruthless. It became a necessity early into the 1800s to employ Security Agents for protection, and all drivers and Carporals worked with a long-riffle at hands reach. One of the most famous Security Companies was founded in 1850 by Allan Pinkerton, who started the Pinkerton National Detective Agency. As robbery along the various trails ran ramped, agents were hired by freight companies to give protection along the routes. In certain situations the US Army Calvary was sent to ride escort with the cargo wagons to their destination. Shipments of gold, ammunition and other precious cargo, such as the first ice-boxes ( refrigeration units) heading to California were watched over by soldiers lest they be stolen mid-trip.
The wagons and teams would be on the trail for twenty-hours a day with only two brief stops for food, and rest for the mules and teamsters. They needed to make Santa FE by sundown Tuesday, and over 140 miles left to cover, there was no other choice. As Mikey D talks to the drivers he smiles to himself. They are ready and willing to make the push to cover the distance ahead." What a great group" he says " see ya tomorrow, MIKEY D

  Happy Easter from Mikey D
Happy Easter to all our BC friends and families. Hope each of you have a very special day today, as we celebrate the Risen Savior. Easter is always a special time, as it also heralds in the spring, with sun, greening grass and the birth of flowers long dormant under the snow.
The wagons arrive at the camp, Kaji and Lizzie and their helpers have set up along side a clear running river. The perfect spot to graze the herd, and fill up on some of Kaji and Lizzie's awesome grub. Kaji takes a look at the beef that is simmering over the fire. It smells heavenly. Lizzie is busy making sure the bread is rising, and she pauses to stir the first pot of beans.
"I know those birdies are gonna be super hungry when they pull in" she says to Kaji. "And we will have a feast for them, that is for sure! "
Kaji nods, and checks the next fire with even more beef."Yup," he thinks to himself. "Can't wait to sink my beak in some of this!"
The smell of beef and bakin' bread fills the air, making beaks water as the drivers and Carporals tend to their charges. The mules remain hitched to their wagons, a feed-bag placed over their long satiny nuzzles filled with oats, barley and a little molasses for extra energy. The remuda is corralled quickly within the make-shift fences. The air is grey with the dust stirred by the one hundred sweaty mules. Though Pearl and Silver had never worked with mules before they are eggspert with horses so they were quick to adjust to the team on wagon #2. Kiddo and Pookie arrive last, in wagon number ten. They quickly tend the team, before rushing to the river for a long, cool drink of clean water. Driving the last wagon is tough work, the dust stirred by the previous ones making it difficult to see and breath.
As the Hungry cowbirds and teamsters dive into the hot meal, Miss Ronnie, Lucy Blue and Lizzie dish out baskets of fresh, baked bread and butter to the camp. Timmy and Toby ride into the camp with Susan to bring word from the Beakerton Security Agents that the trail ahead looks great, clear of fallen trees and no signs of troubles layin' in wait. Picking up a basket of hot bee, beans and bread, they gallop back down the trails. Apache and Finnegan standing watch on a hill top, see their riders comin' and begin to work their way back into the camp they'd set up earlier.
Pulling an old map out of a leather bag, Mikey D rolls it out onto the ground, studying the land shown ahead. His hopes is to reach Santa Fe by mid day Tuesday, to pick up the original Old Spanish Trail to California. To succeed will mean drivin' late into the night, sleepin' for a few hours of shut-eye then movin on again. It's gonna be difficult for the newly trained teamsters, workin mules for twenty hours a day is tough business for anyone, but these newly trained drivers will be pushed to their limits to keep that hurried pace. Sighing he packs up the map and begins to wander from team to team explaining the plan.
See ya tomorrow, MIKEY D

  Hi Junior
YEEEEEHAWWWWW, we're headin' on out today. The wagons are packed, the loads tied down securely in the beds of the Schooners. The sound of bawling cattle can be heard from outside the city of San Antoine. The dusty roads now turned to thick sticky mud after the heavy rains overnight. With the crack of whips, the stocky mules fall into place on their line-ups as traces are fixed into place, and lines are double checked.
Chipper and Moggie ride into the midst of the wagons looking for Mikey D. "BOSS, we're all set to get movin"" they tip their stetson's and spin their horses to race back to the herd of mules, horses and cattle waiting to fall into place in the wagon train to California.
"SPOT!" Cookie yells out from his wagon. "Getta move on, we're set to move out" Spot grabs one final bag of grain and tosses it into the back of the wagon, food for the mules ont he trail"
"Ready," Spot leaps into t e driver's seat and pulls the reins free of the brake. Cookie, steps onto the long wooden handle, keepin' the team from startin too soon."
"OK, Let's go, mover on out" Mikey D yells, lettin' out a sharp whistle, followed by the crack of his whip into the air. The ten mules lean forward intot heir harnesses and the heavily loaded wagon lurches forward. 7000lb for cargo begins it's slow trip towards the southwest. The other wagons start to pull up into line, leaving the distance of two wagon lengthens between each one. Outside of town Pedro yells out to stop for a moment. The others tramp down onto their wagon's brake, as Buddy the driver pulls back on the lead traces with all his might, stoppin' the head-strong animals from continuing. Pedro jumps down, running out in front of the team, grabbing the lead mules by the head gear.
Finally stopping, he runs towards the rear pair of mules, and points to a damaged coupling. He works on it quickly, and leaps back onto the wagon bench beside Buddy. Buddy stands up, using his wing to show he's ready to move onwards, he snaps the reins, and the wagon starts to roll again.
As the final wagon leaves the city, the remuda is gathered up close, and started off following up in the rear. Chipper, and Susan race after a few stray steers, moving them back into the herd. The herd walks along calmly, the out riders keeping them bunched up and moving slowly. Kaji and Lizzie had started ahead the evening before, accompanied by Bon Bon and Parker, Beakerton Security Agents to set up the mid day stop over and get the grub cookin' before the heavily laden wagons arrive. The wagons creak and rumble as they travel along the muddy ground. The sun rises hot, drying the road quickly into a cloud of heavy dust. The smell of sweaty animals and dust hanging thick as fog as the BC team covers the first ten miles of territory.
The dust cloud shows on the horizon a good hour before Kaji and Bon Bon and the others see any signs of the convoy of wagons cresting a distant hill top.
see ya tomorrow, Mikey D

  Hi Junior
Hello, Mikey D here with our Good Friday BOTM post. May you each have a wondrous, and blessed Easter weekend, and enjoy the blessing of family and friends. As preparations continue for our departure I must warn ya all that things will be tough out on the trail. Mules are rugged, strong and determined, but at times can be stubborn. Now some might say that Mules aren't actually stubborn, rather head strong and set on doing things their way.
Before we head out we need at least two more teams to bird-wagons. The Carporal is required to care for the team, to harness them in the mornin' and release the team into the pasture corral in the evening. He or she also makes sure each mule is healthy, checkin' for hoof damage etc daily. The driver is going to do just that, drive the teams on the trail. Drivers work from two positions depending on the terrain and pace the train is moving. On rough, steep or dangerous parts of the trail, the Driver sits on the lead reins between the two rear mules for better control of the animals. On flat, safer ground the driver can sit up on the wagon bench and control the team from there. Driving can be dangerous at times, especially descending steep embankments to rivers and down hills. The Corporal is called upon to " ride-the-brake" in these precarious positions to slow the wagon and teams downward movement.
We will also be moving one hundred head of cattle and extra mules along the trail to California with us, so riders are needed to keep watch over them day and night. Because of the valuable nature of our cargo Finnegan and his Beakerton Security Company agents will ride along for protection. " Blackbart has been kickin' up trouble along the trail lately, and we don't want to get caught unprepared so polish them guns and saddle up your trusty mounts, we move out at day break"
In a separate post I will post on MY page the list of drivers and carporals, as well as the security agents so we know who is taking charge of which wagon and team of ten mules. Remember you can still be added to a position but some have already signed up so it'll make it easier for us to get on our way with some organizin'. I trust you will enjoy our interactive adventure this month as we learn a little American History, and deliver the load of Nutri-berries and treats to our feathered friends on the Southwestern coast.
"Kaji, I see you and Miss Lizzie have all the provisions loaded up and ready to go" Mikey D exclaims happy to see things fallin' together so quickly.
" Yes sir Boss, we have everythin' ready for sun-up' Kaji replies with the tip of his stetson hat.
"We better check that we have a few extra crates of shoot on board, just in case we gonna need be usin' it" Mikey D adds before heading into the General Store to secure more ammunition.
Finnegan hurries across the dusty road from the hotel, " Mr Mikey D, our agents are ready to move out.
See ya tomorrow, Mikey D

  Hi Junior
Hello everybirdie, Mikey D here with today's BOTM post. I am happy to see so many of you have already got your bags packed, and your trusty steed saddled up and ready to go. It's going to be a difficult, sometimes grueling month getting these precious Nutri-berries and Birdie Treats across hostile and dangerous ground to those hungry beaks in California. We begin our journey from San Antonio.
This whole Adventure began when I received a message by Telegraph asking for my assistance to move ten wagons filled with a treasure more valuable then gold. I knew it was dangerous, but with the help from my BC friends, we'd safely reach our final destination. After your awesome Cattle Drive experience the BC cowbirdies had become expert horse-birds, bulls-eye gun-birds, and well, I just knew we could handle this job. Blackbart, that dirty scoundrel had disappeared from the West for a short time, to reappear robbing the wagons en-route to California. Now for a little history of the trail we will be using.
The Old Spanish Trail was primarily a horse and mule route linking the Southern States to the Pueblo of Los Angeles (changed to San Gabriel by the Spanish). The trail evolved from a network of indigenous trade routes and exploratory routes that crossed the modern states of Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and California. Forged in 1829 by Hispanic traders, the Old Spanish Trail was the first successful Hispano trading effort. This overland trail linked the burgeoning ranch economy of the pacific communities to pastoral villages of the inter-mountain Southwest. In the early 1800s, the Old Spanish Trail was a vital economic trade route that linked the South and California. The trail symbolized much more than just a line on a map; it became a conduit for change throughout the vast, arid, expanse of the American Southwest. Its origin did not owe allegiance to nationalism for the trail was neither Spanish, Mexican, nor American.
After the civil war the "Prairie Schooner" was introduced. Usually painted blue with white canvas tops that were said to resemble sails from a distance. The wagons were built for hard use over tough terrain. Unloaded, they weighed 4,000 pounds. They had five feet ten inch diameter spoked rear wheels and four feet ten inch front wheels both with thick, wide, iron tires. The beds were twenty-four feet long and four feet six inches wide with sides that were five and a half feet high.
The Beakerton Security Company will ride with us for protection. We will need twenty strong birds to bird these wagons in pairs. Each wagon has one driver and one Carporal, together these birds are known as Teamsters.
Once we have our teamsters in place we'll head out at dawn for a month of fun, and serious challenges.
See ya tomorrow

  Hi Junior
Hello everybirdie, Mikey D here to introduce myself to you and our upcoming BOTM campaign. Most of our BC family will remember my beautiful wife-bird Chuey and her BOTM Cattle Drive. After giving my campaign greyt thought I have decided to step back into the history of the United States. It was made easier for me when I recently received a message that the Beakerton Security Company asking for help with a special, secret mission.
It appears that that rascal Black Bart has popped his head back up this time robbing stagecoaches and wagon trains owned by the Beakerton Security Company. Our mission is to take a special load of Parrot Treats from Texas to the sunny state of California by Mule Train. The convoy of wagons will leave Texas and travel through some mighty dangerous, formidable territory. That is where you come in. i need your help in driving these ornery sometimes stubborn long-eared mules, in driving our herd of cattle and replacement horses and mules, and most of all guarding our precious cargo of Nutri-berries and other treats safely to those hungry beaks in California.
Most of you have your saddle horse already, so you'll "ole need be catchin' it up, and pack your saddle bags fer our "Wild West Adventure." Might I add you'd best be polishin' yer guns too, with Black Bart and his band of dirty low-down scoundrels on the lamb you just might be needing it pretty soon.
Now for a wee bit of history on the Wagon Trains of the USA.
By 1836 when Texas gained its independence San Antonio's population had fallen from a peak of around six thousand in 1800 to under one thousand. When Texas became a state in 1845, two very important factors revitalized the city and the surrounding area. The US Army arrived and soon established a series of ten forts to the west of the city, and the second influence was the US Postal Service who began the slow process of building roads across the state into adjoining states.
Mules had advantages over both oxen and horses. Bred from a female horse and a male donkey, the animals were about half way in size between the two. They were strong and sure footed. They lacked the free spirited nature of horses and were, indeed, creatures of habit. A good CAPORAL, the name given to the person in any wagon train in charge of the animals, had only to crack his whip in the morning for the mules to line up not only in front of its assigned wagon but even its assigned place within the team, which could consist of between six and eight animals. Unlike oxen, they did not rely entirely on foraging for the food but had to be fed from foldaway troughs at regular intervals. Their skin could withstand a lot of chafing from pulling heavy loads but was not water proof. They did have one huge disadvantage over oxen. The Oxen interested thieves not at all while mules were highly prized plunder.
See ya tomorrow

  Hi Junior
Hello BC commando's, Amando here on this final day in the Brazilian Rainforest. We we took a bite out-of-crime, Sugar and Dory watched baby Armando. He was very restless and alert as he listened to the screams and calls of the angry birds. Suddenly he hears a familiar call echoing over the treetops. He replies happily. The calls continue as baby Armando replies over and over again. Captain Finny appears over the edge of the clearing, and there, following close behind are two beautiful adult Blue-fronted Amazons. The three land close to Sugar. Baby Armando stands up as tall as his tiny legs will allow him to and chirps non-stop. A lovely Zon moves closer, chirping softly in reply. The baby gets even more eggcited.
JL and Amando whistle in loud short Zon calls and the attack comes to an end. The birds leave their prisoners lying entangled in the nets and rejoin them near to baby Armando and the two wild Parrots. The wild Zon reaches forward to touch the baby gently, not certain if it is their chick after so long. The baby responds with happy chirps of happiness, "Momma? Poppa? it is me baby Armando."
The two Parrots grin happily and snuggle their stolen offspring to them. "How do we ever thank-you for saving our baby, and freeing our flockmates from the cages those evil poachers had them imprisoned in? Our flock was once very large over 80 adults but the poachers come again and again stealing them away, taking our chicks from our homes. They cut down our nest tree and stole Armando and our two other babies. We now have no home to take Armando to."
Gus speaks up happily, " we have a nest for you. BB built it to trap the poachers but we didn't have to use it. It is solid, and warm and we will put it high into a tree were you and your family will be safe."
The BC Commandos cheer as they watch baby Armando with his Momma and Poppa. The family is so happy to be together once more. "Sadly this is not the true outcome of poaching. Humans can help stop this awful trade in wild-caught Parrots by becoming our voice in the World. By NEVER buying Parrots without bands or documents showing where they originated from. Remember that many wild Parrots are sent to Europe to be shipped back into the USA. Encourage Eco-tourism as an alternative to poaching. HELP US STOP THE UNNECESSARY TRAPPING OF WILD PARROTS THROUGH OUT THE WORLD!"
Remember Paoo, what he suffered because of human greed, and also remember that many former poachers now fight on the other side of the law because of their intimate knowledge of the area and of bird habits, these poachers-turned-rangers are undeniably the most able bird conservationists available.

  Hi Junior
Hello to all my Amazon Adventurers, Amando here with an update on events as they unfold in the Tropical Rain forest. Some of asked about those blue-fronted Amazons in the cages in my gallery. That is where our Armandos family will end up if we do not stop those poachers from trapping them for the PET TRADE. I have no doubts we will put a stop to their plans.
BonBon, Boo Boo, Pepper, Angel, Chyna, Polly, Zippy, LA and Dixie sneak off through the undergrowth to get a better look at what the poachers have been working on. Being very careful and quiet they work slowly towards the opening where the Green Angels have observed their enemies devilish work. Taking note of the area, the nets and where each poacher waits, hidden in the trees for the unsuspecting Blue-Fronted Amazon flock to arrive at their feeding grounds. Returning to the others they explain in detail the whole scene. After listen quietly, Cappy's anger grows to a frenzy of temper, "Today would be an eggcellent day to kick some poacher tail feathers." Cappy ruffles his feathers in anticipation and the look in his eyes would scare anybody.
Kaji grins,"Gotta say, Lizzie is so ready to torch those guys if you want her to. More than happy! She could do a slow roast, good fire power control." Lizzie smiles sweetly and puffs a small flame from her mouth to emphasize Kaji's point.
Ipo is more then ready for battle against the poachers. Ipo whips out her sword. "This is getting too much!!" She gets ready to fly when she feels Sophie's wing on her shoulder "this isn't your time, Ipo. We must await the other rescuers. Your turn will come soon. Now put that away." Jenny and Amando consult together with Sky, Cappy and Kaji, then standing on a rock JL clears her voice and begins to outline the plan for attack. "we will sneak up on them. The Special Forces will tend to the nets, cutting them down from the trees. Silver, you and Chuey are in charge of rope chewing, pick helpers and remove every rope you see. The rest of us will wait for the nets to drop and begin our attack. We are going to bite, scratch, chase, net, warm-up ( she grins at Lizzie) those poachers like they have never dreamed possible."
The birds cheer and high 4 one another, "Then we will return Armando to his flock safe and sound. We have to deal with these thieves first. This poaching happens everyday around the world. Innocent Parrots are stolen from nests, their flocks, many die, many suffer untold abuse and neglect just so people can get "cheap" Parrots. ENOUGH!" AMANDO YELLS.
Sky grabs BB's nest box and carries it under his wing as the BC Commando troops move into position. With the help of Elvis, Willie, Oz and Chyna they get the trap high in one of the trees.
"OK TROOPS Let's go get us some poachers" JL calls with determination as they move as one and begin their plot to stop their unsuspecting enemies.

  Hi Junior
Amando here with today's Amazon Adventure update. We have located the flock of wild Blue-Fronted Zons who had been attacked by the same group of poachers earlier this year raiding countless nests for babies. The poachers have been secretly laying nets to trap Armando's flock at their daily feeding grounds just ahead of us. We must move with extreme caution and be on the ready from here on.
Capt. Finny, Chuey, Kallie and Pearl return to the group for a quick briefing. "Since spotting baby Armando's flock, the Green Angels and I have been flying from tree to tree trying to locate his Momma. At the same time we are warning all 38 blue-fronted Amazons of the danger lurking beneath them. We are warning them to stay as high in the tree canopy as possible since the poachers cannot get too high where the branches turn into twigs, and watch out for nets. We told them that we have an entire company of parrots coming to their aid and told them to stay hidden until they hear JL's command to attack. Then they can join in the fun of ripping those poachers to bits and wrapping them in the very nets they had intended for the birds. In the mean time we'll continue our search for his Momma. Only 11 more trees to go..." off they fly to continue their search.
Kiddo whispers to Susan and Polly, " Nothing makes me madder then poachers, and they are just lucky my mom isn't here.."
Kaji tells Amando his idea, "We gotta get to the flock before the poachers do. I still say Lizzie could torch the dirty jerks, no problem. I bet she would scare the living you know what out of those evil people." Amando laughs at the thought.
Sweetpepper plays with baby Armando, she tells Sugar and Dory" It's very sad that 17 babies died. We will give baby Armando back to his parronts and save them from those rotten poachers." Sugar smiles but the anger in her eyes tells it all.
Cori and Boo Boo sigh, we have an idea, "we say lets get rid of these poachers once and for all. ,hey are only doing it because they need money. lets show them something they can do that doesn't harm anything and makes them lots of money, turning their poo into bio fuel." Sky can't help but grin at that thought. Jenny-Lynn nods her head in agreement then suddenly raises her wing for the group to halt, making the "be quiet" sign at the same time. Leaning close to Amando's ear she says, "your plans for Armando's return is a good one, we certainly have the parrot power to succeed! I almost feel sorry for those poacher folks! Somebody will have to hold Cappy back, I think that dude can get violent, LOL!"
They watch Cappy sharpening his beak. Cappy speaks up," if there are 5 poachers then I suggest a two fold trap ... the net and also a deadfall ... a hidden box with a fake nest and bird to attract them poachers in and as soon as they reach for it ...baaam ... the box slams shut ... effectively trapping them and making them vulnerable to our attack. What do you think ."

  Hi Junior
Hello Birdie Commandos, Amando here in the sunny Brazilian Rain Forest. We are on our way to intercept baby Armando's flock and reunite him with his Momma. We have been made aware of poacher activities in the clearing up ahead at a frequently used feeding grounds. As we begin our trek across the dense jungle of south America our goal is to stop the poachers and take a BIG bite out of the illegal Parrot trade once and for all. Amando, Jenny-Lynn and Sky move out ahead of the others using their machetes to cut through the vines and growth making a path for the others to follow. " Those paochers are gonna be sorry they messed with us!" JL comments with an angry Zon growl. Calling a halt, the group stops for a brief rest beside a cool stream.
Cappy quickly sharpens his beak and talons before the group heads off again. He wants to make sure he is able to rip and shred flesh easily. Dory and Dixie hang back with little Armando and Dixie quietly plays peek-a-boo with him to take his mind off what's going on. Rudy ... is looking for something to eat again. Finding some avi-cakes to munch on.
"We need to make a plan to catch them cold-handed, and teach them a lesson they won't forget." Jenny comments to the others.
"If we lay the net on the ground and cover it with leaves, maybe they'll get caught and tangled and trip over themselves !" Cookie exclaims determination on his face
"A note to the poachers; "I know who you are, and what you do I shall never forgive you for, ever, YOU BELONG TO ME! My name is Jenny Lynn, and this is the same jungle my mom and dad grew up in, you are dead meat, GAME ON! " She gets an angry look in her eyes as see thinks of all the birds who have lived and died at the hands of poachers, of the thousands, upon thousands who have been stolen away from their homes, families and flocks, of Paoo who was mutilated for the enjoyment of humans to see. THIS IS WAR. We must fight hard, and we must never given in." she yells loudly and is joined by the cheers of agreement from all the others.
Amando climbs up onto a fallen limb, " Our greatest challenge lies before us. Captain Finny and the Green Angels have been doing reconnaissance and have brought back confirmation that there are 5 poachers ahead to the south west. Also they have located the flock from which baby Armando was stolen. There are approximately 38 Blue-fronted Amazons living and nesting not four miles from here. It appears that the same group of thieves raided the nests of fourteen nesting pairs this year taking all but two youngsters from their homes. Three adults were severely injured while attempting to defend their nests from intruders. Very fortunately no adults were killed at that time, but the mortality rate among the stolen chicks was high, out of thirty-three chicks, seventeen died en-route to the village from chilling, dehydration and crowding. We believe baby Armando is one of the survivors of that nest raid."

  Hi Junior
Hello fellow Amazon Adventurers, Amando here with a rather "fishy" situation. After scaring the Hippos away with a Cappy scream and landing safely down River, we soon made the discovery that that the Amazon is home to some pretty "fishy" characters. Red-bellied Piranhas.
Cappy shudders when he sees the bucket and the churning water ..." I think it best to stay away from that water ... Thank goodness those things can't come on shore ... just look at how fast they ate through the bucket ... Faster than I could have ... whew."
The others back away from the water as Jenny-Lynn eyes the chewed bucket, then leans over to look at the fish. "could I get one of those Piranhas with tartar sauce and lettuce, LOL! "
Just as the birds had settled for lunch Capt. Finny flew in at a swift speed, between breathes he related the outcome of the Green Angel's search of the area. "Kacey and Kallie sent Chuey to tell Chipper and I to get up the river fast! Pearl and Silver have been on the look-out with them to see what kind of suspicious activity is going on. We're getting pretty near where we could be spotting Armando's Momma and flock anytime now. So we wanted to be really careful. You're not going to believe this, but we saw more poachers! And this time they were really operating undercover, spreading nets. I think they may be after Armando's flock! You've got to get up here fast with JL and the gang, but be sure you keep little Armando out of sight. We've come so far and we're so close now, but this is going to be dangerous."
Amando looks at Jenny-Lynn and Sky, then at all his friends. He goes to Sugar and leans over to whisper into Armando's ear, " you're almost home little buddy. We're not going to stop now. Soon you will be back with your Momma" he kisses him softly on the head and sadly smiles at Sugar.
Turning to the others he says, " Finny and the Green Angels have found poachers ahead. Armando's flock is in danger. We are BC Commando Birds and we will not give-up, back-down or retreat. Who is with me?"
With one voice the cheer fills the Rainforest opening where the group stopped for lunch. "We will not be defeated. Together we shall win the war over poaching!" Amando's heart filled with hope and courage as he returned to Jenny-Lynn and Sky. Sitting on an old log, the three discuss with Finny the area ahead, the location of the poachers and make their plan of attack. Little Armando must be returned to his flock. Jenny looks at the drawing of the area and frowns. The nesting site for Armand's flock is close by. "I have no doubt that they are indeed after Armando's flock. " Jenny growls angrily, and glares off into the jungle growth.
"OK Birdie Commando's let's move out. It's war. This time it is no-holds-barred" Amando yells.
Sugar and Dory get Armando ready for the cross jungle trek. With Guards, Taz, Spot, Gus, Cori, Sweetpepper, Kiddo and Pookie in closed formation around Armando they begin to move out.

  Hi Junior
Hello everybirdie. Amando here with today's Adventure update. After a frightful emergency with my fister Sweetie and her Pet Store toy, we are back on our trip to return Armando to his Momma and flock. With the Hippos awake things got pretty nasty for poor Cappy and his boat load of Amazon Adventurers. Hippos are not native to South America but were relocated here by someone then left to fend on their own when their owner was killed by authorities. The warmth, abundant water and plant life are perfect habitat for the displaced African natives. A large male awoke by the passing boat lets out a loud roar of annoyance that rouses the others from their afternoon rest. He runs forward, his strong legs moving easily across the river bottom. The others in his pod follow, heading towards the longboat.
Cappy sees the angry hippo coming and let's out a huge Cockatoo SCREAM, crest up, feathers fluffed. The male Hippo comes to a screeching stop and stares in wonder at the large white bird standing on the helm of the longboat. The others stop behind him, not certain what to do. The leader roars again and steps forward. Cappy screams again, this time he is joined by the other BC friends. The sound is deafening as it echos across the water. The Hippos having never seen or heard a Cockatoo before stare for a moment longer then turn on their heels and head back towards the distant shoreline. Cappy screams once more for a final warning, before smiling happily at his friends in the boat. "You just don't mess with a TOO!" he says, grabbing his oar. "OK, let's paddle out of here."
The other boats pass by undisturbed as the hippos keep a nervous watch from the banks. The group sails past Manaus, before BB calls to them to head for shore for lunch. Dixie and Little Angel were so comforted to be in the boat with Cappy as their guard,he sure did scare those hippos fast! They wouldn't want to mess around with that strong big beak.
BB opens her travel bag & gets out the portable kitchen. Out of the storage bins she gets corn on the cob, veggie Kabobs,Soy burgers and Spam hot dogs. Little Bits Best root beer is in the coolers along with Cream & Ginger Ale sodas.
"I am going to call in the supply shuttle for more food. Any birdie have a request for food??" she asks looking at Sky, " yes Pickles, I won't forget. Sky could you and Jesse go bring some water from the river please?"
Sky grabs two buckets as he and Jesse wander back down to the River where the others are playing a game of beach volleyball. Bending over, sky dips the bucket into the river and suddenly the water begins to turn and bubble. Startled Sky yanks the bucket out. "WHAT ???" he yells looking at it. The whole bottom was gone, eaten away. "Stay out of the water, Piranhas!"
Everybirdie stops dead and stares at the bucket, and the River.
"So many dangers to be wary of" Kaji sighs

  Hi Junior
Hello Adventurers. As we draw close to Manuas, Brazil, we must be watchful for both human threats and the ever present threat from wildlife both on land and aquatic. Although the Hippo is an African animal, there are now over 50 individuals and counting living happily along the Amazon and other South American Rivers. In the late 1980s, Pablo Escobar kept four hippos in a private menagerie at his residence in Hacienda Nápoles, 100 km east of Medellín, Colombia, after buying them in New Orleans. They were deemed too difficult to seize and move after Escobar's fall, and hence left on the untended estate. By 2007, the animals had multiplied to 16 and had taken to roaming the area for food in the nearby Magdalena River. In 2009, two adults and one calf escaped the herd and, after attacking humans and killing cattle, one of the adults (called "Pepe") was killed by hunters under authorization of the local authorities. As of early 2014, 50 hippos have been reported to exist on the Amazon and it's tributaries.
With Mick Dundee departure after enjoying BB's lunch, the birds begin to wonder how they would get past the Hippos ahead in the River. Amando, Jenny-Lynn and Sky sit close, deep in discussion trying to figure out the safest way past the upcoming danger.
"I think we simply paddle by, staying as far away from them as we can. If we take one boat past at a time it shouldn't disturb them overly" Jenny-Lynn adds, worry on her face
"But if they do attack the boat and it is alone we might not be able to get there in time to help them." Sky adds
"I think we stay close together." Amando replies after some thought, " we paddle as little as we have to, let the river move us by"
"It might be best if we separate and place guards in each boat while passing the hippo pod." Jenny-Lynn directs
Sky and Amando agree, and set about moving guard birds into each boat. The nervous Adventures load their boats, and pushing off from shore, slowly paddle towards possible danger lurking the the River ahead. Finny and Chipper had reported back that the hippos were resting near the west bank of the river in shallow water. The birds move their boats towards the eastern shore, paddling carefully, ever watchful for danger. Rounding a sharp curve in the River near Manuas, JL in the lead boat with Sugar, Cookie, Raffi, Peepers, Laka, Strawberry and RT spots the first group of hippos. Resting submerged below the murky Amazon waters, just their heads exposed. Pointing she let's out a shrill whistle to inform the others that danger was ahead of them. JL directs her companions to stop paddling, and allows the boat to move slowly along pulled by the current of the water. Sky and Kaji's boats pass by the hippos without incident. Next boat to pass is LA and Dixie's group, guarded by Cappy. As Cappy instructs his friends to stop paddling, one huge male Hippo opens his mouth and lets out an angry roar. His sudden call rouses the others in the pod.

  Hi Junior
Hello fellow Amazon Adventurers. I was sure glad to see that Ms BB had welcomed her pal to join us for a part of our trip up the River. She musta known we were going to run into some nasty company along the way. Nothing worse then Crocs or gators for rocking the boat so to speak. Thankfully we had warning from Finny and the Green Angels. With BB's shuttle always on the ready she was able to have her friend Mick from Australia join us . He has a nickname of Crocodile Dundee. Mick stepped up on the bow of the long boat so the crocs could see him better. When they did they all headed for the bottom of the river & stayed there. They didn't want to be made into boots, belts, hats or luggage!!! I sorta feel sorry for them after Cappy and Little Angel got done with them.
"OK, enough with the green gator guys, Ok Crocs. Let me at' em. I'll show them a thing or five. I'll bite their noses, sparkle their tails and then......"Li
"il Angel yells at the crocs as they swim around the boats. "Oh you don't wanta wake the baby.
Too late....LOOK OUT CROC HERE I COMEEEEEEEEEEE." Little Angel grabs an oar and whacks the croc on the nose hard making tears come to his eyes.
Little Angel" Sky yells, "Stop hurting the Crocs, you're making them cry. OH no not that." He watches as she grabs one by the tail and bites down as hard as she can, "and trust me that's hard."
"Little Angel, I thought I told you be good?" Amando looks at her and can't help but grin as he watches the neon sparkled crocs swimming away in shame, that a little girl bird beat them up.
Everybirdie laughs as the crocs disappear. Then little Angel turns to see Mick standing on Ms BB's boat. She grins sheepishly and giggles. "Way ta go mate" Mick calls to her making LA happy.
"Whew! That was a close one! Thankfully, LA, Cappy and Ms. BB took care of those nasty crocs! Good grief! What will we encounter next?? Oh, oh....my Green Angels just informed me that there are some hippos up the river. Just what we need! Do be careful. Hippos are even more dangerous than crocs. We have to find baby Armando's Momma and get him home before anything else happens. I'm off to check on the hippo situation and really search for Armando's Momma. " Finny waves his good-bye as he heads off up-river to re-join the Green Angels as they gather information about the hippos.
Heading into shore, tie off their boats and relax. Its lunch time so Ms BB sets up her portable kitchen." How about deep fried gator bites, corn dogs and deep fried pickles?
I have been told by Mr Mick Dundee the gator bites taste like chicken. " Picabo makes a face at the thought of Gator bites. Boo Boo yells, " Bring'em on!"
"Then we can sneak past those Hippos and continue our hunt for the baby"s Mom & Dad."
As BB and the girls cook lunch, the boys bring out some maps and check for possible nesting sites ahead. As they look over the map Willie points to a treed area, "LOOK! A nesting area of Amazon species"

Good morning Amazon Adventurers time to rise and shine! Amando calls out happily as he wakes his sleeping friends. " It's once more time to load our long-boats and move further in-land on our search for baby Armando's Momma and flock." The sleepy eyed BC Adventurers yawn and climb off their sleeping perches, waking to the smells of Ms BB's fresh brewed coffee and the warmth of the Brazilian sun falling softly on their faces. Eating a quick breakfast the travelers ready their boats, pushing off from shore, determined to make Santarem by late afternoon.
Santarém (Portuguese pronunciation: [s?~ta'??j]) is a municipality in the state of Pará in Brazil. The Tapajós joins the Amazon River there, and it is a popular location for tourism. It is the second most important city in the state and the financial and economic center of the western part of the state. It was once home to the Tapajós Indians, a tribe of Native Americans after which the river was named, It is located some 800 km (500 mi) from both the largest cities in the Amazon, Manaus, and the state capital Belém. It has a population of 300,000.
Pushing out into the Amazon River, the group paddles through the early morning without incident. Suddenly Finny and the Green Angels arrive, landing on the helms of the boats. "Amando,
just wanted to warn you guys to be careful up ahead. There are some crocs sunning themselves up the river. You never know if they'll take off after a boat or not, so be on the lookout and be very careful with little Armando." With that they were off again, scouting ahead for danger and Armando's Momma.
"I THINK BABY ARMANDO RECOGNIZES THE SOUNDS HE IS HEARING. OH I DO HOPE WE FIND HIS MOMMA AND HE KNOWS HER VOICE." Kacey and Sweetpepper say as they cuddle the baby close, keeping him safe. Armando chirps happily, straining his neck to see everything as the boats slip effortlessly through the murky waters.
"We are all so excited to be on this journey to find baby Armando's parronts. And to destroy all the poachers along the way who have done all this damage to our native habitat!" Dixie tells L'il Angel, an angry look in his dark eyes.
The boats turn the bend in the river, and there, laying on both banks are dozens of crocs and gators, basking in the mid-day sun. As the boats move forward, the paddles ripping swiftly through the water, black eyes open and disappear beneath the water at the edge of the river. Suddenly Falco lets out a terrified scream, grabbing onto Jesse. Their boat vibrates as the croc comes up from underneath, hitting the boat from below. Hulk and Willie hold tightly to their oars as the croc swims around the sides of the boat, then disappears under the water. " HELP!" Boo Boo yells as the croc hits the boat on the side, tipping it over, and causing it to take on water.
BB and Sky turn their long-boat quickly, with Kaji and JL paddling as hard as they can, Cappy holds his oar up, hoping to get a swing at the angry reptile.

Hello everybirdie, I am sorry for missing Sunday but we were Squawked right off of BC from dawn to dusk. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and are ready to continue our trek down the Amazon River to find baby Armando's parents. Some have commented that they are unable to make a picture of themselves on our Adventure. Picture or not you are all a necessary active part of this trip and we couldn't do it without your help. Thanks for your daily support and tot hose who leave comments we are able to write into our daily posts.
"We're off in search of Armando's Momma" Amando calls out as the long-boats push off from shore. The eggcitement of the day and the upcoming adventure slips away as the boats cut smoothly through the water. Native birds fly over head shouting their greetings as the group of Adventures paddle down the river in search of Armando's flock.
Jenny, always on the vigil, oversees Sky & Amando's plan of returning baby Armando! She will not allow this venture to go South, "there will not be any days like that! This is not a vacation, THIS IS SERIOUS CRAP! " Jen is learning to understand the Napanee flock, and just like her, they are as serious as a heart attack, Jen loves the real things in life! This adventure will not fail!
The birds joke and laugh as they paddle enjoying the scenery slipping by on the shoreline. A Jaguar leans over to get a closer look at the passing Birds. BonBon and Parker fly over to speak to him. " Do you know of a flock of Amazons that have a baby that was stolen from them? We found him, but don't know where to find his Momma."
"He is likely from further inland. Poachers were raiding nests in there a few weeks ago, stealing countless babies from nests, cutting down their nesting trees if necessary. I have seen many dead babies lying discarded along the trails, tossed away like garbage, all in the name in profit" The angry Jaguar roars his displeasure. " Once the nest trees are destroyed there are no places for future nests or chicks to live."
Susan shivers as her boat passes by a submerged tree, where a large snake lies sunning herself along the edge of the water. The snake watches as the birds pass by, watchful least they bring danger to her homeland.
Finnegan and the Green Angels swoop in and land on the helm of the boat where Amando, JL, Cappy, Sky and Kaji navigate the River. "It looks like the coast is clear for now, but the Green Angels and I will be keeping a keen lookout for trouble. This route along the Amazon is really beautiful, at least the birds'eye view of it is." with that they fly off to scout of the river ahead.
Baby Armando wakes up chirping happily as he hears the calls of his native land. " I think he knows where he is now" Dory says to Chyna, Falco and Sugar, "Look" the baby flaps his tiny wings happily.

  Hi Junior
Hello everybirdie. Amando here with today's Amazon Adventure Update. I want each of you to know how proud I am of you, and how hard you fought against the poachers who were stealing the wild Parrots. Many species of birds and Parrots are extinct or on the brink of extinction. The two of the leading causes being destruction of habitat and unchecked poaching. With the criminals behind bars we are off to the shuttle and the trip down the Amazon to find baby Armando's parents.
Finnegan swoops in, "Hey Amando and team.....that was GRRRRRRRRREAT! We did it! Everyone did a fantastic job nailing those poachers. Now my Green Angels and I have to get busy scouting out the route and helping to look for little Armando's mama and flock. You know there could be many more poachers on our route. There are lots of them out there. So we're still going to have to be VERY careful. My Green Angels have excellent eyesight are the best team you could wish for. We're off." with that the Green Angels head up into the blue skies towards Macapa', and the beginning of our trip.
Kiddo comes to Amando, JL and Sky, " I think those guys are so glad to be in custody. Obviously jail was preferable to the wrath of the beak!" The birds erupt into fits of laughter at that, as they recall the looks of relief when the authorities showed up.
The BC Commando Birdies head back to the shuttles waiting int he clearing. Everything is loaded and ready. Baby Armando is fast asleep in Dory's wings. Cori tip-talons over to see him, smiling at his quiet form, sound asleep oblivious to all that has taken place. Dory hands the tiny parrot to Cori who kisses his little pin-feathered head. He opens one eye long enough to see who has him before falling back to sleep. Everybirdie is glad to sit down in the shuttle, after the awesome fight they just completed. Eggcitedly they relay the events to Paoo who smiles." There are more, many more out there. As long as people buy them, Parrots will be stolen from their homes."
The Shuttles lift off effortlessly and in a flash are landing outside of the City of Macapa'. The birdies climb out cautiously, keeping their eyes open for danger. Finny and his Green Angels fly by relaying the all clear message. Sky and Amando head tot he river to find their guide Jose' who will escort the group down the Amazon in search of the flock that Armando belongs to. A dozen long-boats sit moored at the waters edge. Jose' looks up as he hears Amando heading towards him. "I have already heard word of the fight your group won against the poachers at Belem. Word travels fast through the Rain Forest." The tall Macaw grins widely and offers a wing in friendship.
"Let's get the gear loaded and get moving. We have a long trip ahead of us." Sky exclaims
"Es, and many dangers also" Jose' replies with a knowing look.
"OKAY, all is ready" Amando calls loudly, as the three birds return together to the shuttles. "We're off in search of Armando's Momma"

  Hi Junior
Hello Birdie Commandos, Amando here in Brazil. We are taking a huge bite-out-of-crime as we teach these seven poachers the price of stealing the wild Parrots of South America. I'm certain word will fly fast around the globe that the birds are ready to fight back. It's hilarious how grown men will cry like babies when a few dozen birds decide to fight back. Jenny-Lynn lets out a loud Zon scream and leads the attack. Sky lands on the terrified man's back, leaning in for a good shoulder bite. The man screams in pain. Jenny grabs his right arm in a Zon lock and clamps down hard. Sugar bites his leg as he tries to run. Amando flies towards his face. In fear the lead poacher screams for help but his six friends are busily learning a lesson about crime. Amando bites hard on the mans nose making him yelp in pain, He tries to fight off the angry attack but is unable to stop the bites that come one after the other. Falling helplessly to the ground he cries out in fear for help.
" Stop crying you baby!" Sky orders glaring at him inches from his face. "for years you and your band of thieves have trapped, killed and stolen birds from these jungles without one thought of their lives, their families."
Jenny-Lynn bites down hard on the man's hand causing blood to flow from yet another bite wound. "Soooo, how do you like it? How do you like being the victim?!!!" She growls angrily, glaring furiously into his terrified eyes. " I am not even sure we should let you live for all the birds that have suffered and died at your hands, and those of your friends." She bites down hard again making the poacher scream in pain.
"What should we do with these criminals?" Amando yells out to his friends who have cornered the six others in frightened, bloodied submission. Afraid to move, the seven poachers lay still as the birds stand guard over them, others flying above keeping watch lest their be others hiding in the brush.
Raffi growls menacingly at the head poacher while he stands on his chest, beak inches from his now very sore nose." why don't you try to run?" Raffi moves even closer making the man shiver in fright, as Raffi does his loudest Grey growls.
The Ring leader manages to stumble to his feet, pushing Cappy off him in the process.
Ms BB is waiting in the jungle for a pocher to run by. She has her super dupper net gun ready.
"Bammmmmm !!!!! Bulls-eye!" The net goes over the big screaming man running from Pearl and Silver, Cappy, LA, Raffi and Angel and Pepper. He thrashes on the ground cryen and whimpering.
"Now he knows what a trapped bird feels like,"says Ms BB grinning triumphantly at her victim.
" Let's decide what to do with these thugs!" Amando calls out. While birds stand guard the others begin to fly in circles above their victims, "BOMBS AWAY!!!!!!!!"

  Hi Junior
Good morning everybirdie, Amando here in the jungles of Brazil as we, BC Birdie Commandos prepare for an all-out war against illegal poaching. A shadow passes over the poachers causing them to startle just long enough to look up and see the huge flock of descending birds. Panic flows through them as they suddenly realize that the birds are not the Blue-Fronted Zons but a huge flock of mixed species, and they are flying directly at them.
Cappy is looking for that head poacher ... he spots a pretty big burlesque man and starts his attack run. He swoops in avoiding flailing hands and objects and rips into some tender flesh and blood starts squirting everywhere ... Cappy chews a little and spits as he takes off to prevent getting hit by the bad guy .... he circles and waits for another opportunity. "Is that a bird in trouble over there????" Cappy immediately heads over to help.
Pookie says" lets get dem Poachers!!" and swoops at the smallest poacher, biting him on the arm as he flies past quickly. The frightened man lets out a loud scream of pain, grabbing at his bleeding arm. Cappy and Cookie land on his back, biting and screaming angrily. The little man tries to get them free by spinning in a fast circle only causing him to trip and fall to the ground. BonBon, Parker and Spot land on their target making him yell out in pain.
"We WILL AVENGE ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SUFFERED. LET THEM POACHERS HAVE IT." Sweetpepper yells as she and Kacey fly towards a second fleeing poacher, biting him on the shoulder before flying away to make a second attack.
"LET 'EM HAVE IT!" Angel & Pepper join in to help with the attack, chasing a third poacher into the jungle, they are joined by a very angry Flitzer, Puffin and Chyna. The man trips over a fallen branch as the birds dive and swoop, biting as they pass by. He yelps in pain as strong beaks leave their mark behind. A forth and fifth poacher flee screaming in terror as flocks of parrots and birds follow, talons and beaks making their marks.
Gus, Kaji and Hulk join forces with the Green Angels as they attack a sixth large man, who tries in vain to fend off the attacking Birdie Commandos. Chipper grabs a beakful of hair and yanks hard as Finny, Chuey and Kallie take bites out of crime. The man begins to cry in pain, pleading with the angry birds to stop. Little Angel and Dixie enter the battle ready for the attack to teach them not to mess with innocent fids who are minding their own business and only want to be left alone to live and let live! LA grabs the man by the nose and bites down hard, refusing to let go as he withers in pain on the jungle floor.
Then the birds turn their attention on the ring leader. His eyes grow huge as dozens of angry eyes glare in his direction. The blood flowing from countless bites inflicted by Cappy........

  Hi Junior
Hello Amazon Adventurers Amando here in Belem Brazil. With Paoo safely aboard the shuttle we BC Avengers are preparing to wage war against some well known local poachers before we continue our journey to reunite our small friend baby Armando with his parents. In low whispers the birds plot their revenge.
Cappy listens intently, as he continues to work on his weapons. Satisfied Cappy is ready for WAR ... his beak and talons are sharpened and his crest is up and he is fully alert. If he has too he will go it alone but he will make them poachers bleed buckets before he is through with them. Cappy glances at the little guy and gives him a scritch and a wink and tells him "you have lots of flock mates to protect and love you."
Amando describes in detail the jungle area where Finny and the Green Angels had spotted the band of poachers setting traps for the unsuspecting Blue Fronted Amazon flock. Jenny-lynn thinks for a moment then says, " We better break up into teams, each responsible for a different part of this mission. With the Green Angels doing over-head surveillance we'll know exactly where thtey are and what they are doing. "
"Keep away from all trees, and don't land on the ground, keep your attacks directed at the poachers, IF they flee out of the clearing, chase them, but beware of anything that doesn't seem like it should be there." Sky adds
"WE WILL LET THEM POACHERS HAVE IT FOR SURE." Kacey and Sweetpepper yell angrily, and are joined by the rest.
"Yeah, we are gonna get those poachers good!!" Kaji fluffs up and gives his mean look."They are not gonna mess with us, no sireee!"
"I am not usually one for violence but in this case I think a few Zon bites might be a good idea!!! Sugar growls.
"We can handle a few poachers easily" BB adds "JL and I can take care of a couple each. My Dad sharpened my talons for me."
An anxious Cookie ruffles his feathers and says loudly, "LET'S GO GET 'EM ! ! !
BonBon and Parker, being budgies have already begun chichi-ing in agitation, anxious to get going to attack the poachers! BonBon says, "let me at 'em! "
Spot says, "Parker you keep my fister safe! I'll be dealing with them on my terms!
Dixie leads the group in a prayer for their safety, and at the Amen they let out a triumphant cheer, taking to the air as one, they follow Finny, Chipper, Kacey, Kallie, Chuey, Pearl, and Silver towards the battle grounds. Flying in fighter-plane formation they circle their target before beginning to branch off into groups of angry, protective Birdie commandos.
Jenny-Lynn lets out the attack command " OK, N O W!!!!!!" and the battle begins in the clearing in the hot Brazilian jungle

  Hi Junior
Hi everybirdie, Amando here with our current Rescue Mission update for Monday. Word has been that there are poachers at work close-by in the Jungle. They have located feeding grounds for Blue-Fronted Amazons. My frother Casey wants to have at them, as does many of the group but we have to plan this carefully. We don't want anyone hurt or worse. With Paoo safely aboard the shuttle, under the watchful eyes of our BC friends. It is time for some tactical planning.
``Wow that was fun," Jenny-Lynn has her wings full holding back a bunch of PO'ed parrots ready to do battle with the poacher. Taz, Puffin, Oz, and Flitzer are on standby, while Finny & his green Angels are doing overhead surveillance, with Chipper and P&S! The hardest one to hold back is Cappy Miller, he must be part Amazon. JL has vowed to wait for Amando and Sky's order to coordinate the attack, if necessary! A gnarly faced Jenny says in a Zon growl " I want one of these poachers for lunch!" Jenny reaches into her ruck sack and pulls out a banner that reads "NO MORE WILD PARROTS", and it brings a silent roar amongst all the brave rescue parrots, trying hard not to give their positions away...
Cappy is so disgusted with the poachers that he just wants a chance at them. He sits and sharpens his beak just in case he gets an opportunity to RIP some poacher flesh. He listens as Amando, Jenny-Lynn and Sky plan their attack.
" You and your team did a great job getting Paoo out of there. It was nerve wracking to say the least. Now what are we going to do about those POACHERS?? They're some evil, scary folks!" Finny says as he returns for a quick updating on their next course of action. He tells the group that "the poachers have moved their location further south-west and have set up traps by painting "a glue-like substance" onto the branches of the trees in a wild Mango grove. Chipper had gone in for a closer look and reported back that there are 7 poachers in the group, and that they were hoping to capture 200 Blue-fronts for their buyer."
Little Angel sits with Dixie holding baby Armando who happily wiggles and flaps his tiny wings. An angry glare crosses LA's eyes, "Let me at' em, I'll show them poachers a thing or two or three, maybe even four! Just let me at 'em."
"I say we make a air-bourne attack on these low-lifes. Teach them a lesson they won't soon forget." Kaji and Hulk say letting out low growls. "The Green Angels know where the traps are set and we won't land, except on those Poachers"
The debate gets pretty heavy but the general agreement is, " We group and attack. No bird flies alone, no BIRD, hear me, no bird, lands anywhere in those trees. What do ya say?" Jenny-Lynn asks
"LET"S DO IT!!!!!!!!!! everybirdie yells quietly in agreement.
So, here's the plan......

  Hi Junior
Amando here today to update everybirdie on our current rescue mission. We were successful in freeing Paoo from his chains of imprisonment, but just as Paoo and his rescuers reach cover, the morning silence is erupted by the shrill screams of Taz, Puffin, Tango, Oz and Flitzer. The panicked alarm sends everybirdie flying and running for cover. Finnegan and the Green Angels fly in at top speed, adding their distress calls to the chaos. Landing silently next to Sky and Amando they tell what they saw as they checked out some activity towards the West. Jenny-Lynn leans close so as not to miss a single word as they convey their message.
"Chipper, Pearl and Silver flew towards the south west while Kacey, Kallie and I headed towards the north west." Finnegan takes a deep breath, " as we flew over head to regroup we saw them, The POACHERS!"
"They were setting traps in the jungle growth" Chipper says angrily, " they have nets and cages hidden in the under growth."
"How many are there?' Amando asks concern crossing his face
"maybe 6." Finnegan replies in disgust
"I'm sure the calls have gone out over the Amazon. They will not be successful today!" Jenny-Lynn says growling in outrage.
"They were waiting for Blue-Fronted Amazons to land at their feeding grounds. We intercepted them and they've left the area"
As quickly as it began, the air once more becomes silent, but the rescue group knows they now must hurry before anyone realizes that Paoo is missing and go in search of him. Angel and Pepper lead the way as they quietly lead Paoo to their Rescue Central and the shuttles. As they move along, others from the group join them, each lost in their own thoughts about the Poachers at work in the area. Pushing the brush aside, they arrive safely at their camp.
"we're here Paoo, this is our camp. In a few minutes all the birds will be back from their positions during the rescue mission, and we'll take off for Macapa' and the trip up the Amazon. You're going home my friend, you are going home!" Amando tells him, taking his wing to lead him onto the shuttle.
"Thank-you my friends. All I have dreamed of is being once more back home. They took my flight away, and blinded my eyes from seeing the world, but never did they take away my longing to once more be free, even if it is for only a short while. My flock will take care of me." Paoo smiled sadly as he spoke. "too many of my kind, of all our species have known my fate, and that of my dear Rosa. Until someone will stand up and say "NO MORE wild Parrots" this cruelty will go on. I pray you will share my story and make a difference."

  Hi Junior
Hello friends, Amando here with our current rescue mission update. SHHHHH! we have to be very quiet, and make sure not to make a sound. Jenny-Lynn being well trained in organizing under-feathers missions for the Homeland Security organizes the rescue teams. Amando, Dixie, Peppino and Pookie hand out camo gear they'd brought from the BC. The birds hurriedly change and check that each one has everything they'll need to successfully complete their first mission; freeing Paoo.
Sugar kisses little Armando on the head as he peeps happily in l'il Angel's wings, " be good, we'll be back soon."
Silently the group moves out keeping to the cover wherever possible. Sky checks to be certain he has the bolt cutters needed to remove the chain from Paoo's leg shackle. Suddenly Finnegan and his Green Angels team land where Amando and Jenny's team are doing last second equipment checks. " All is clear between here and Belem, but we did see some human activity to the west. We're heading off there now. Keep Safe" Finnegan says as his group take silently to the air.
Quiet as mice, the teams take their positions. Spot and Cori fly to the trees next to the store where Paoo is held prisoner. Not a word or sound is exchanged as each bird begins their job. One mistake could mean disaster for the rescue teams and poor Paoo. Flitzer watches from the tree, taking in every movement in the city below. A dog wanders by oblivious to the scene about to unfold before him.
Jenny-Lynn, Amando and Sky creep slowly closer to where Paoo is chained. They can make out his still form from the distant cover. Kaji and Cappy head around to the opposite side and wait for the signal to move in. Taz lets out a short, high whistle, the signal all-is-clear, and from the distance it is echoed by Spot, then Gus, Cori, Kiddo and finally Sweetpepper.
"OK, coast is clear, let's move in, cut Paoo free and get him out of here." JL directs. BooBoo flies up to the roof of the store, taking her position to help lead the rescue team to where the others wait to help assist Paoo in getting safely to the shuttle. Amando leads the way, keeping to the shadows and low brush as they move in. Paoo lifts his head at the faint sound of BooBoo flying past. Unable to see, somehow within his heart knows that today he will finally be freed. Moving cautiously to the end of his branch he waits. Amando and Sky had promised him to return for him. " today I go home!"
Sky speaks softly to Paoo as the group reaches his side, " we're gonna cut the chain, and help you out of here. The shuttle is ready, but we have to be very quiet."
Jenny-Lynn looks at the chain in disgust. Cappy and Kaji help hold it so Sky can use the bolt-cutters to cut the link. Boo Boo watches for any signs of danger from the roof top. With great effort the chain is cut, and Kaji helps Paoo onto the ground. Taking him by each wing, Cappy and Kaji lead him towards the undergrowth where BonBon watches eggcitedly.

  Hi Junior
Happy TGIF my birdie pals, Amando here with today's continued Amazon Adventure update. We woke extremely early in the morning, prepared to make our rescue mission well before any humans would be up and about. With Jenny-Lynn leading the rescue party, we would free Paoo from his imprisonment and make a quick, safe escape to Macapa'. Before the humans would know what had taken place we would be many miles away.
(Before continuing further I must tell the reality of Paoo's life. Paoo lived 4 years in a totally dark prison, afraid to move beyond a few feet to eat and drink from his dirty bowls. He lived outdoors subject to the eliminates, no shade, no place to stay dry from the daily showers. Paoo never tried to escape, he was unable to see, so there he sat, until finally one day Miguel, the person who forced this prison of pain upon him rescued him. He was euthanized and finally reunited with his Rosa and flock at the Rainbow Bridge. Miguel grieves his past but fights harder then any of us to change the future, and protect the wild flocks. Everyday his life is in danger, because the poachers are not gone, the market for wild Parrots is alive, and those involved will kill men to continue it. Fly free Paoo my dear friend. Although the CITES act stopped the import of wild caught Parrots, the Parrots can and do daily enter the USA and Canada through Europe and overseas sources. Most of the "imported birds we buy are not bred in captivity-except those with closed metal bands. DO NOT buy imported birds--do YOUR part to stop this crime)" Miguel"
"OK, Taz, Spot, Gus, Cori, Sweetpepper and Kiddo, you six have to be our watch birds. Sugar, Cookie and Raffi you keep look out for any cars along the main road. SKY, you and Cappy come with Amando, Kaji and I. We're going to get Paoo and help him to escape to cover, Where Bonbon, Boo Boo, Pepper, Angel and Chyna, will assist Willie, Falco, Jesse, Pico and Hulk to bring him back here to Rescue Central. Dory you and Little Angel watch baby Armando and make sure he is fed and ready for a fast escape by shuttle once we bring Paoo back with us. If you can help load the shuttle Picabo, Elvis and Indy that will really help.
Jenny-Lynn stops to look at a map she has made of the area. "Puffin, Tango, Oz and Flitzer we need you to be on the alert for any signs of danger, sit in the trees out of sight. IF any human appears I need you to scream as loud as you can so we'll know that danger is lurking close by. Chipper, you, Finnegan,Kacey, Kallie and Pearl and Silver are fast, swift fliers. Your mission is to deliver information between all rescue party members. Move silently, so as not to bring any attention to our secret mission." Jenny-Lynn growls fiercely and " should I encounter any human resistance, we'll just........" she stopped not speaking the words that she knew Sky and Amando and the others already felt.
"Ok, let's say a prayer for our safety"

  Hi Junior
Hello my friends, Amando here in the Brazilian sunshine. After our conversation with Paoo, Sky and I return to rejoin the others at the shuttle landing site. We gathered together to discuss the frightening information that we had uncovered. The reality that this happens daily here in South America, Mexico, and around the planet was a wake-up call to some, and a sad reminder to others like myself of the freedom we lost. As I spoke of Paoo's prison his final words echoed loudly in my mind. " you must take Armando back home"
" I am not so certain it's a good plan to take Armando back to his parents, what if he too is trapped?" Falco questions worry on her pretty face. Jesse puts his wing around her protectively.
"I agree, it might be safer if we take him back to BC and let him live with us." Gus adds tickling the baby under his beak
Jenny-Lynn and Sugar hold Armando protectively, anger filling their hearts as they think of the pain Paoo and Rosa and others suffer at man's cruel hands. Cappy stands watch over Armando, his crest raised in aggressive protection. " We will not stand anyone to harm our little friend!"
"NO! Let us come across the poachers, any poachers, we'll teach them a lesson they will never forget" SKY Screams loudly, his eyes burning in outrage. " We have to help Paoo. He sits daily without shade, at the mercy of the rain or sun , exhaust fumes filling his lungs. We'll take him with us. We will help him, we will return him to his family." Sky screams, and it is echoed in the voices of all the BC friends.
Baby Armando chirps, unsure of what was going on, but sure it was something eggciting that lay ahead for them all. Dory takes the baby and holding him gently, feeds him his lunch. Armando grins happily, his crop full, as he cuddles close to her for extra protection. Dixie and Little Angel offer to watch Armando for a while so Dory and the others can begin to pack up the bags for the first leg of their trip into the Amazon. Lizzie and BB work with Chyna and the girls to make snacks for their cross country journey to Macapa' in the state of Para. From Para, they will start the trek along the Amazon River to find Armando's family.
Pará is the most populous state of the northern region with a population of over 7.5 million, being the ninth most populous state in Brazil. It is the second largest state of Brazil in area, with 1,2 million km², second only to Amazonas. Its most famous icons are the Amazon River and the Amazon Rainforest.
" Before dawn we will go for Paoo, then take the shuttle to Macapa'. We will be using long boats to navigate the Amazon River. JL we need you to organize a rescue mission. Finnegan I need you and Spot to fly ahead to scout out the route we will be taking once our shuttles land near the city. Check for any dangers, both wild animals and humans.

  Hi Junior
Hello everybirdie, I must finish Paoo's story even though it brings much sadness and grief to us. Paoo was real, his story was shared with my Momma Deb by Miguel a former poacher who has since learned the truth and now fights daily to stop the illegal trade in wild-caught Parrots in South America and Mexico. I wish to thank him for showing us the reality of poaching of Parrots world-wide. Flew free my friend Paoo.
" The terror that filled her once beautiful eyes broke my heart, and spirit. I sat next to her as she slowly died a pain-filled death, screaming in agony. It is this faithfulness to one another that allows many Parrots of all species to be trapped in the wild. When one among a group is injured the others respond by coming to their aid. As I sat next to Rosa, watching her life fade IW as unaware of the danger soon to befall us. A net was sudden shot over the group of Macaws settled on the ground guarding their dying comrades. Some escaped the net as it hurled across the opening launched from special cannons. Many of us did not."
"When the net fell I tried to fly but the weight held me to the ground, I fought hard but became entangled in the webbing. Men came, Miguel came and grabbed each of us roughly. Some of my friends received injured or broken wings due tot heir rough handling and our struggle to get free. We were thrown into metal cages one upon another, cramped together so we could not move, or barely breath. The hot sun, no water and food made many of us sick and very weak. By the time we arrived at Miguel's home in the Amazon we were tired, scared and unable to put up a fight. We were left in these conditions for days. Finally one by one we were yanked out, our wings were pinioned( a practice were the end of the wing is cut off to prevent any future ability of flight). Some of my family fought the men, and they were dunked head first into pails of cold water again and again until they quieted down or died of fear. I was young and strong and fought and screamed in anger as they cut the ends of my wings off. I bit hard and tried to escape. Unable to fly I fell tot he ground and was easily captured. To stop my fighting I was held down as a red-hot needle was touched to my iris of each eye. The pain was unbelievable and somewhere during this abuse I passed out. When I awoke I was once more in the cramped cage, but my world had become filled with pain and darkness. "
" Miguel and the men took the remaining survivors from my flock to the market were we were sold for $60.00 to $200.00 US each. Many of us had died from abuse, fear, sickness, thirst and hunger. Other had infections in their open cuts were their wing tips had been chopped off, and some of us were forever blind due to our desire to once more fly free. My friends be careful of man. No matter what never stay in the open long, avoid common feeding grounds and please take the baby home."

  Hi Junior
Hello Amazon Adventurers, Amando here in sunny Belem, Brazil. With our safe trip, and successful scouting of the surrounding area we took the opportunity to explore the area and attractions before getting down to the serious job of returning our Baby to his Parronts. "Come on let's go check out the beach and market place" Chyna says, Cori and the girls agree to that plan and leave together, swimsuits and towels under their wings."Stay together, and watch for any signs of danger!" Amando calls after them
"We better go keep an eye on them" Sky tells BB. Spot and BonBon with Parker follow along at a short distance to keep watch over the girls.
The girls giggle and laugh as they make they way to the beautiful, sandy beach. Seeing that they are in a safe, public location, Amando and Sky decide to go check out the market place. As they walk around, they come upon a small store on a side street. Here is where they meet Paoo. Paoo was sitting quietly on an old tree limb, barely moving, staring off into the distance Rainforest. The once beautiful Scarlet Macaw was dirty and his feathers looked dingy and rough.
"Hello!" Amando says startling the large bird. He looks bewildered as he tries to locate the source of the voice. "Hello?"
"He speaks Spanish" Sky says, " Bueno" Sky says
"Bueno" the Parrot replies, " I speak English. My name is Paoo. Who are you?"
"I am Sky and this is my frother Amando. We have come from America to return a baby Amazon to his Parents."
" I once lived free too. But one day it all ended and I was brought here. I was born in the Central part of the Rain Forest, high in a tree hole nest. I lived with my Parents and my flock. I learned to fly, and grew big and strong. When I was 5 years old I met a beautiful girl named Rosa who lived in another flock. We met everyday at the clay licks and had become very close friends. That ended one day. I awoke early that morning, as was my way and flew with my parents, siblings and flock to the licks, but no Rosa. Her flock never arrived that morning. I busied myself with eating clay as did all my flock members. The silence suddenly was shattered by the screams of macaws close by. Their panicked screams filling the air with terror. We rose into the sky as one, but being a flock and faithful to our own we flew fast towards the source of the panic calls. Circling above we saw several Scarlet macaws flapping wildly on the ground below and descended to assist them. There, on the ground I found my Rosa. She was covered in blood from a missing wing as were two others from her flock. I could not abandon her despite my fear of blood, so I landed close by and went to her side.

  Hi Junior
Hello everybirdie, time to rise and shine. We will finish loading the shuttles and grab a quick breakfast before the sun rises over the BC castle. Then we are off to the warm, tropical Rain Forest of Brazil. We will land in Belem Brazil. From Belem, we shall begin our dangerous journey into the interior of the Amazon Rain Forest, following the Amazon River and the Orinoco Water Shed.
"I have spoken to a dear friend of mine, who once flew free in the Amazon. He was trapped and brought into Brazil’s $1billion illegal pet trade. It targets many highly desirable psittacids. Domestic and international demands for Brazil’s parrots is enormous. He warns us that according to a recent report by researchers David Pearson and Les Beletsky, domestic aviculture is an “iconic (activity) in all classes of Brazilian society”. Over 70 percent of wild-taken parrots are sold domestically, despite harsh laws that prohibit possession of wild-caught psittacids. The remainder are shipped to the USA, and Europe. We must be ever watchful, and careful least we too become part of this illegal trade in wild Parrots."
"Come and get it" BB calls between gulps of steaming hot coffee.
The boys yawn, and try to go back to sleep. They had spent the night taking turns feeding and caring for the baby Amazon. The baby is wide eyed and ready for breakfast as Kiddo opens one eye and looks down at the bundle of energy snuggles beneath him for warmth. " You sure don't sleep very long do you little one?"
After a quick hearty breakfast, the shuttles are loaded and with one final glance around the KB the Amazon adventurers and baby with his watchful foster Moms Dory, Sugar, Jenny-Lynn, Sweetie and Spot are belted in. With a final look around at BC and home, they head south-east towards their starting point in the resort city of Belem, on the Atlantic coast of Brazil. The flight is uneventful, and Baby sleeps quietly only waking long enough to eat and take a quick look out the windows at the clouds and blue skies around them. Landing carefully under the expert talons of Ms BB and Mr Sky, the shuttles touch down outside the city in a secluded location, where it will be safe for them to exit the shuttles and get their bearings. Having left the cold and snow of Canada and many parts of the US behind, the sun and heat feels good after the long flight.
" Hulk, Kiddo, Sky, Picabo, Silver, Pearl and I will go scout out the area. Wait here till we return. Be care and keep an eye out of humans." Amando says, as the boys head off towards Belem. After a short while the scouts return with word that "it should be safe to explore some today in Belem, but stick together, never be alone."
