 A huge THANK YOU to all of our wonderful friends for their kind and thoughtful outpourings of sympathy on the loss of our dear little Daisy. Our precious little Daisy died on Friday, Feb. 20, 2009 in a terrible accident. She jumped on Daddy's back as he was walking out the door and he didn't know it. She immediately flew and as she was spiraling upward, a hawk dove down from a tree and snatched her. It was a terrible death for an extremely loved and cherished little bird who never knew anything but love and gentleness. We will always miss and love her.
How we met...My Mommy found a breeder on the internet in our area who sent her a picture of me. I was so cute, it was love at first sight! So as soon as I was weened, my Mommy and Daddy picked me up and brought me home. Wee!! And I've been the center of attention ever since.. |

I am a Lutino Mutation Cockatiel from White Lake, MI.
 Baby Girl; Little Birdie; Little Birdie-Girl; Daisy-Maisy

 Lutino Mutation Cockatiel
Nutriberries, millett, popcorn, pecans and corn on the cob (see my pic below).
 On my Mommy's or Daddy's shoulders or laps. That's where I hang out most of the time, or out on my "summer cottage", (a smaller cage on our sun porch), or on any of the furniture out there. Actually, the whole room is MINE! I love my summer cottage!:) I can watch the ducks, geese and swans on the lake. It's almost like being outside with all the windows open and all the bird noises, except I'm safe in here!
 Being messed with when it's bedtime and I'm tired.
 Mommy and Daddy hold me and rub the back of my head and neck just the way I like. Then I make little birdy purrs. (That's what my Mommy calls them anyway.) They take me "bye-bye" in the car and let me sit on their shoulders so I can look out the window, and they make me my favorite veggies and give me treats whenever I poopy where I'm supposed to. And sometimes they let me stay up and watch a movie with them and have my own little bowl of popcorn. Boy, is that fun and do I ever make a mess!
 I love to pull out Mommy's watch stem whenever I get the chance, so she's never quite sure of the time!! I've made her late for quite a few appointments. I also love to "help Mommy clean." Whenever Mommy turns on the vacuum cleaner, there I am! I ride around on her head, or shoulder or on the arm that's pushing that vacuum back and forth. I just love it! Mommy says that I'm her little helper..

Hi Daisy's Mom,
So very sorry for your loss. I've lost 3 Cockatiels over the years and it never gets any easier. My first Cockatiel was pure white with dark eyes and her name was Taylor. She was such a joy from day one. The day I picked her up from the Breeder she jumped on my finger and we bonded immediately. I put her on her play gym the first day and she loved it. She always wanted to be with me. The day she died was horrible. I was getting ready to go out for the day and of course let her out as I always did. Somehow she flew out of her cage (that was hanging from the ceiling as we had 2 cats) and the way she landed on the carpet, she actually broke her neck! OMG it was one of the most difficult days of my life! Needless to say I didn't go out that day. Sydney was my 2nd white one but not quite as friendly. Although, after months of having her she became sweet. She only lived about 3 yrs. when she became egg bound. She had one egg and the next day didn't seem right. I was taken another bird to the vets that day but decided I would take her instead after work. When I arrived home, she had already passed. My 3rd Cockatiel (after yrs. saying no more) was a White Face little male named Keaton. He was smart and said many words and phrases and whistles. Only had him about 4 maybe 5 yrs. and he either had a stroke or a bad fall from his cage. When I took him to the Vet after knowing something wasn't right, he kept him for the day, gave him a shot, something was going on with his liver and his blood. The Vet said I could pick him up after work and keep him in a smaller cage (which I had) but he never made it. I picked him up and like all the ones before him, I buried him in the back yard. Again, after many years I now have Apache who is a White Face little Male. He says a few words and whistles tunes like We're Off To See The Wizard, The Andy Griffith Show, The Wolf Call, Rinse So White, etc. Hopefully, I will have him much longer.
You have two beautiful other Birds. Enjoy them as I'm sure you do.

My Sweet Daisy
I still remember all the laughs, all the chats, all the fun you and me used t'have as we bantered back and forth about what was happening in our lives. I loved those days. I loved YOU! I always will my precious little friend. How I wish you were still there with your family and here with your friends. This day in 2009 was one of the saddest in my life. I wept with such sorrow when I heard the news. It still makes big ol' tears well up even now.
Thank you Daisy for all the wonderful memories of your friendship.

I am going to do another all Rainbow Bridge BOTD after the first of the year and I would love it if I could include you. I don't want to cause any pain for your family. This is a way to honor you and all the love you gave to them while you were living down here. A Note from Kelly
It is with regret that Daisy's name has been removed from the BOTD list per the heartfelt request. I know her friends would've loved to have honored her with a day of remembrance but your feelings concerning this are understandable. If at any point in the future should you, her sweet Mom, feel the wish to see this precious bird remembered in a unique way, a spot on The Calendar Page will always be available for her.

It will be a pleasure to acknowledge the life and love of this little cockatiel with a day in the spotlight as our BOTD here on the BC. Daisy's name now appears on The Calendar Page as a future candidate with reservations for August 13 thanks to the nomination made by Bluebell. The many friends who miss her so will be pleased to honor her with this award.
