When we were buying the parrot from a pet store, they had two youngsters in same cage.....I pick one (Pepik) and they were forced to be separated from each other. But when we came next time for grooming, they were greeting each other so much!!! We couldn't resist and brought the other one at home as well! We believed they are both boys...... until today! We had some doubts, so we had the DNA sexing done and Ferda is a GIRL! They just love each other!.

Thank you so much for visiting us. You two guys are adorable. Hmmmmmmmmmm once upon a time I had all my feathers like that. Mom took me to the vet; they tried collars, valium, etc. finally the vet told my mom I was fat and healthy and just keep me out of drafts. She then stopped worrying so much about my feather plucking espescially since it has been many years now.

  Hi Ferda:
Like you, I talk a lot. They told mommy that is unusual for a cockatoo. I even say "can I talk to you". Cracker, my brother too, doesn't talk too much but he does make a lot of noise and chews everything which makes mommy and daddy mad. I think it is great that you talk in two languages. I gave you a vote.

  Hi Ferda:
What a beautiful bird you are. Do you talk? I talk a lot but sometimes my mommy doesn't understand what I am saying. Cracker and I were both rescues and we were adopted one week apart about 2 years ago. I was abused so I have a lot of problems but I am gradually getting better. I love my mommy but I am still afraid of daddy. My house is right next to Cracker's house and we perch right next to each other and sometimes put our beaks together. I still scream when Cracker is out and he goes on top of my house. I am still a little afraid of him. He is twice my size and is very big for a U2. Our houses are right in front of the big picture window so we can see out. I scream at sundown because I want to be covered up.

Come visit me, Sweetpea, Budweiser, Skittles & Cracker.

Mom just visted Pepiks page and saw you in the avairy and in the pictures. She just thinks it is great that the two of you are together and it looks like true love. You both look so good together. You mom and dad are very good humans to buy both of you. Every birdie needs a buddy either human or birdy. At least that what mom thinks her flock is now up to 18 and everyone has a buddy. Mom feels better about that when she has to work so much. While I hope you and Pepik have a great day and have fun. Come visit us anytime.

  Ferda,
A dry hatch means I had no lubrication in my egg to help me move to be able to get out. My Breeder Mom had to get me out of the shell or I probably wouldnt have made it. But as you can see I am doing great today.
Mommy just made me a new toy last night with straws and I have been having a blast with it.

  Hi Freda
Actually I don't have anything bad to say about the quarantine center in NY. They were really great. Before I was housed there Mom hit them with lots of questions on the conditions I would be kept in, food, lighting, cage size/construction, toys, and so on. She even phoned them from England several times. They were always very responsive and happy to talk with her about any concerns. She flew with me to NY and went to the center. The manager came out to meet her and introduced her to the person who would be carring for me. They let her bring some toys for my cage and asked her what food I liked to eat, what my habits were. The lady who was to look after me gave Mom her cell phone number and told Mom to call her anytime to see how I was doing. I even put on some weight while I was there. So overall it was very good. Of course they have to ensure that there is no possiblity of escape hence no access to sunlight. I guess they could use UV lights but that would be expensive. As for my out of cage time, I am out most of the day (10 hours) unless both Mom and Dad are going out somewhere. We have plantation or vertical binds on all the windows. The front door is mostly glass so Mom hung a colourful wind sock on it so I don't try to fly through it. MM

  Hi Freda
Mom has never had my wings clipped so I am fully flighted. So when I go outside it has to be in a cage. Mom has this neat backpack type cage that she will take me in for walks and short trips in the car. I sure like the car rides. She did get me a flight harness but I won't wear it. Just find having something around my neck to be toooo scary. As for sunshine, mom gets me out in the sun as much as she can. A few hours a day at least but she always makes sure I have some shade to go into if I get too hot. When I can't be outside she uses a full spectrum lamp. The Vet said that the lamp was a good thing when I can't be outside. Mom said she can notice a differance in my feather condition and colour when I get enough UV either from the lamp or outside. You should have seen me when I came out of quarantine. I hadn't had any sun/UV lamp for 30 days and my tail had gone from a lovely red to an insipid pink. The rest of my feathers had also paled. Mom got me out in the sun and within a week or so my colours came back. I think it just goes to show that it is important. MM

  Hi Freda
I think what you have is good. With the letter from the breeder confirming that you are both American born and your vet able to confirm that you have been with your family for more than two years you should be fine. So how are things out there in CA? Do you get to go outside at all? Mom takes me outside on the back deck in my cage. Sure do like that bit of sunshine on my feathers. MM

  Hi Freda
So your Mom is from the Czech Republic. Wow. Well, if you ever find that you have to go there with her let us know. Mom could help you with who to contact in the USA here for all the export papers. There is also a thing called Cites which is a treaty between nations to do with the movement of threatened/endangered species in and out of countries. The states are part of the treaty so you would need a Cites to leave the USA. Your Mom just needs to have proof that you and Pepik were hatched here in the USA and your hatch date. If she doesn't have that she should go back to the store and get a letter from them stating that information and if possible, the name and address of the breeder that they got you from. Also, it is easier to get a Cites if you have been with your Mom for 2 years or more. So any bill of sale should be kept so she can prove where she got you and when. Again, if she no longer has that get the store to provide a letter with that info in. Just a bit of 'just in case' preperation which I hope you will not need. Hope this helps. Fly by again soon. MM

  Hi Freda
The story about my move from England to Florida is a long one but I will try to make it less so. Even so I will do it in installments. Yes, I did have to be in quarantine for 30 days. First of all you need to understand that my Mom had a CAG before me. His name was Pete. Back in 1983 the company she worked for sent her to the USA to work for a year. She brought Pete with her and he died in quarantine of starvation. At that time the quarantine centers had to feed the parrots a special pellet mix that was medicated. Pete wouldn't eat it but the staff didn't pick up on it until it was to late. So you can imagine how she felt about me having to be in quarantine. She even considered finding me a new home in England but Dad said that we were both so bonded to each other neither of us would be happy. So he said to start checking it out and see how she felt. She had to start the import process about 8 months before we were to move. That is how long it takes to get all the permits, export/import licences and so on. Then there was finding and working with a UK animal export company that would deal with flying me over and an animal import broker in the US. All the complicated paper work has to be absolutely correct, all the fees paid and so on before I was flown over. If it wasn't the USA government would have confiscated me and Mom would never have seen me again. She also spent ages on the phone talking to the two quarantine centers where I could go. One was in Miami and one in New York. She explained to them about Pete and then hit them with loads of question about what I would be fed, my cage size, conditions, could I have toys and so on. To be continued ...... MM
