Hi! My name is Scion- Hibernation!

I am a Bronze-Winged Pionus from Chuburna Puerto, Intl.

Bronze-Winged Pionus

green beans & cookies (mini vanilla wafers), any kind of nuts

I love my hanging toy in the living room ceiling; I get excited when I get to go outside on the porch in my cage

When napping sort of keeps one eye open to see what is going on.

I love how they tickle tickle my head and don't expect me to always be sitting with them. Mom is always there when I need tickle tickle or some cuddling.

Loves to fuss at his parronts if he doesn't like something. My mom says I look like a little old man when I walk around and fuss at everybody! I hate it when anyone carries anything big past my cage! I love to help dad feed the flock at breakfast time!.

Where's the food?.

  Hi ya Cuz~
I hope you are having a wonderful day! Mom spent way too much time running around today and I didn't like it at all. Everyone else had to go to work and all at different times. Dad was going to leave early but they changed his pick up time. He was gone for an hour and a half this morning and told mom he was going to get some groceries for the truck. He never made it so mom took him to the market before she took him to the truck! Just crazy today and it didn't seem like a day off for mom at all!
The good news is that the NFL said that Taima can lead the Seahawks out of the tunnel for the Superbowl! YAY! I don't know what the Seahawks would do without him! He is a very important member of the team! Even people who don't like the Seahawks have to admit that Taima is the coolest mascot in the entire NFL!
Dad tried putting the old phone, that went through the washer, in a bag of rice to see if it would dry out that way but so far it still won't turn on. I don't suppose it matters now since he has the new one.
I hope your evening is a relaxing one! Mom and I certainly plan on one!

  Hi ya Cuz~~
I hope you guys are having a great day! It's been boring around here but that is just fine with me. Mom worked last night and now we have our weekend again! I think she should take 3 days off every week!!
Dad washed his $300 Galaxy phone in the washing machine last night! Guess what? It doesn't work anymore!hahahahaha He is a bigger dork than mom is and that's saying something! He really can't function without his phone. It's a very sad, sad thing!hehehehehehe
He went by Costco and got another one. Let's hope he doesn't wash this one! He got the warranty on it but I do not think it will cover things done to it by dumb users!
I hope your day is just perfect! Leaving a vote and a big hug!

  HI ya Cuz~
I hope you are having a great day! Dad took the picture of the 3 of us(in my gallery) waiting for mom to come back! We are always somewhere near her and dad thought it was funny how we were all just sitting around waiting for mom. She is the one who feeds us and plays with us so of course we love to hang out with her!
We had a whole lot of cleaning to get done this morning and then dad took over the computer too. That leaves me with no time to blog since mom is working tonight! I think dad is leaving tomorrow so I'll have complete control over my computer then!
Enjoy your day! Leaving a vote and a big hug!

  Hi ya Cuz~
I hope you had a wonderful day! My little Budgie cousin Paige flew to the Rainbow Bridge this morning. Mom's sister took her and her fisters, Pru and Piper, in last year. She isn't really sure how old they are. It's very sad but at least I know she was loved and had a good life for the last year. The people who had them before never spent any time with them and they didn't even have any toys!
Dad made it home today so he'll be here for a day or two. He has a doctor's appointment in the morning. He has to fast for 12 hours so he only has an hour to go! He had better get to eating!hahahaha He wanted pizza so I am getting another lovely piece of crust today! That is twice in a week! Mom told me not to get use to it! Bummer!!!
Enjoy your evening! Sleep tight and sweet dreams!

  Hi ya Cuz~
I hope you had a fantastic day! We did!! Now that mom's heart rate is back to an acceptable level I am having her blog for me! For a few minutes there I thought I was going to have to perform parrot resuscitation on her! That is when you bite them really hard to bring them back for the edge of hysteria!hahahaha HEY! It works!
What a great game between two awesome teams! The Packers should be very proud of themselves! This is what a championship game should look like! Now we have to see if it's the Colts or the Patriots who will be joining us in Arizona!
The day started out crazy so it is appropriate that it continued to be a crazy Sunday!
Jennifer was burning a candle in her room. She keeps the door closed so that no smoke comes out but she had her window open and the wind was blowing so some of the smoke blew into the hallway ans set off the smoke alarm! The dog freaked out and peed all the way down the hallway! I was screeching and it was pandemonium around here! Mom calmed me down and cleaned up after Mandy and gave us all snacks! We are hoping for a nice quiet evening!
I hope you have a great evening too!

  Hi Scion and all
Makana hugs her friends. I'm sorry I haven't been payin attention like I should at the KB and being so slow getting back, but mom's finally got things going with the internet AND computers. long story, but the last 3 days were not mom's fault but the cable guy that didn't turn on the modem for wifi. Yep it was off and it was not pretty. We are set again.
Now I hope you fly by because I'm planning on ice sculptures tomorrow. I would love to have a theme The Beach though. So think up a good one. Gotta fly now. Lots to remind about the theme. See ya.

I hope you are having a wonderful day! Happy TGI Blue Friday! There are lots of events going on up here before the big game on Sunday. It is going to be an exciting weekend up here!
Jennifer's boss sold her playoff tickets for $500 a piece!!! She is a season ticket holder so they always get a chance to buy their seats first. She is going to use the money to buy plane tickets to Arizona to see the Superbowl! She is that confident that the Seahawks are going to the Superbowl again! I must say that I agree with her! GO HAWKS!!!
You look so cute all cuddled up in your quilt! I hope you have been feeling well and just enjoying your days! We are still doing a whole bunch of cleaning because of the dog. Mom has started taping the pads together so that there is a bigger area and Mandy won't pee off the edge!! Good news is that I am getting use to the carpet cleaner and I don't even growl at it anymore!hehehehehe
It's a pretty quiet day around here. Everyone else is at work and when Ian gets off he is going to take the Sounder train up to Seattle to visit with his friends again. The one who lives in Pennsylvania is going home tomorrow.
Me and mom are going to continue with cleaning and do some cooking. Mom is off for 3 days after Saturday night so we don't need to cook too many meals. I think baking some cornbread would be an excellent idea!!
I hope your day is just perfect!! Leaving a vote and a big hug! I love you my cousin and I keep you in my prayers every single day!

  Hi ya Cuz~~
I hope you are had a wonderful day! It wasn't too bad around here but there was still a whole bunch of cleaning going on!!
You will not believe what happened here last night! Mom was cleaning up the kitchen and put the trash bag out on the balcony. Sneaky Merlin went out there without mom knowing and jumped over the balcony!! He is perfectly fine, which is a miracle, but mom says unless he has his harness and leash on he is never going out there again!
She noticed he was missing and went to check the balcony and didn't see him. She checked the whole house out and he was no where to be found. She looked over the balcony but did not see him. She grabbed her jacket and went around the building, climbed down the embankment, sloshes through the moat and climbed up the wall to get to the downstairs neighbors patio. She saw Merlin run onto the patio and called to him. He came right to her! She bundled him up in her coat and brought him back home! She was muddy and banged her knee while climbing the wall but at least Merlin was okay. She checked every inch of that cat and he is just fine! Mom explained to him that cat do not really have 9 lives! He stuck to her like velcro for the rest of the night. Just before we went to bed, he was at the door howling to go out! Not too smart, is he? He sure is one lucky cat because it was only a few minutes between the time mom put the trash bag out and going downstairs to find him! If he had done that when mom wasn't here, no one else would have noticed him gone!
I hope you are feeling well and having a wonderful time! I think every bird on the east coast would love to move down there with you right now!! It is hard to celebrate winter but I think we should try to find a way!!
Have a fabulous evening! Leaving a vote and a big hug!

  Hi ya Cuz~
I hope you had a wonderful day and I hope your Christmas was fabulous! Thank you so very much for the beautiful flowers! That certainly made my day! You are so very kind to think of me!!!
Mom got home late from work this morning so my schedule was all off! At first I was pretty upset but it turned out okay since mom doesn't have to work tonight and spent lots of time with me.
There were lots of people at the store very early today. All the Christmas stuff was 75% off so they were grabbing stuff right and left! Mom managed to grab the cards for next year and two really nice shopping bags. They have Christmas pictures on them but who cares! One of them will be our new book bag since they are water proof. The old one is starting to rip on the bottom!
There was no traffic to report on the radio news show this morning so they were reporting when each mall was going to open!!! You would think everyone would be tired of shopping at this point but it certainly didn't look that way! Ian was suppose to work 4 hours today but he ended up staying for 8 since it was so busy. All those little kids who got gift cards could not wait to get to Toys R Us and find a new treasure! It's always exciting when they have their own money to spend!
Enjoy your evening and I hope it's just perfect! I hope you are feeling well! Know that you are always in my prayers and I love you dear cousin!

I hope you are having a wonderful day! We saw the picture of the snake on Facebook! ICK! I hate that it came to your house! When we lived in Mohave we would get them in the garage. They would go in there after the mice that went in there to get out of the heat! Dad hates them but mom would just put them in a bucket and put them back out in the desert.
I hope you parronts have a great time at the dinner. Mom is going to start cooking a turkey breast soon. We are having that tonight and prime rib tomorrow. Mom has to be at work at midnight tomorrow so we'll eat early and then she can get some sleep. It's the same every year! It will just be a quiet day and that is fine with all of us!
Enjoy your day and I hope you all find lots of joy in it!!

  Hi ya Cuz~
Happy Monday and may I say GO HAWKS!hehehehehe They did good yesterday! Now if the BC had not squawked me off all morning I would say it was a perfect day!
When mom got home this morning they had the side gate to the complex blocked. Mom had to turn around, go up the street past the complex, make a U-turn and come in the front gate. As she making the turn at our building, a sheriff's car and the Medical examiner's van were going out the gate! That is not good. We have no idea what happened but it can't be good! Dad told mom the fire department pulled in around 6am but not with sirens. I guess someone passed away. Mom will find out from the lady downstairs since she seems to know everything that goes on here. There are 251 apartments here and we only know the people in our building.
Only 2 nights to go and mom will have a day off! YAY! She'll probably just sleep most of the time off anyway but it will still be nice to have her around at night. Mom already has lots of great stuff for us to eat on Christmas Eve and on Christmas. It will be nice just to have the whole family together for a couple of meals! That doesn't happen around here much!
Dad bought a new computer chair yesterday. It was what he and mom decided would be their Christmas present. I hate it! It is way too big and I can not see mom when she is sitting in it. I think she needs to move my play cage so I can keep an eye on her!!
I hope your day is just perfect! Leaving a vote and a hug!

I hope your day was just perfect! We had some very dark clouds to the west but sunshine to the east! It looked very pretty. We didn't do a whole lot today. Mom is off tonight and tomorrow night and we have lots to get done around the house. Dad will be home Wednesday and he gets to stay home until Christmas is over!!
Mom went to the mall today to the Hallmark store to get Ian an ornament. She got him the Spiderman one this year. Mom has been buying him a Christmas ornament every year since he was born. This will be ornament #32! He has a strange collection of book characters, Godzilla, spaceships and action figures! The very first one was the Poky Little Puppy! That was his favorite book at the time!

  Hi ya Cuz~
I hope you are having a great day! We've had no rain and the wind has died down too. It is a bit cooler but it's more like it should be this time of the year!
What a fabulous picture! I just love it! You are so very handsome!!
There was a blackbird running around the furniture pad at mom's store this morning. Someone left the garden doors open and he came on in!! Mom tried to get him to come to her but he just hid around the back of an ottoman. She called her manager and told him that the bird was there and he told her that he had come in the day before. Her manager chased him around for half an hour but couldn't catch him. Mom thought about the fishing nets in the sporting goods department but the mesh is too big and she doesn't want him hurt. Mom suggested they make a trail of seed to the garden door. If he has been in the store for a day he must be hungry. There is a fountain in the indoor garden so he had access to water at least. Mom will find out tonight if they managed to get him out.

There are only 11 more ads until Christmas!hahaha Of course they are going to do an ad the day after also so mom will have to be there at midnight. They have tons of wrapping paper so everyone will probably be in for that. It will get slower after a few weeks. They have a storage event and early tax time and then it will be Valentine's Day! They already have throws, blankets, pillows and decor for Valentine's Day! At least it's all in the stockroom and not out on the floor!
I hope you enjoy your day!! Leaving a vote and a big hug!

I had to stop and see your pretty picture!
We're staying at the aquarium today, because mom found pics of the penguins, a good one of the polar bear, and a SEA DRAGON, Yay! The aquarium takes up a couple of levels, the shark tank takes up all the levels, though. It goes from top to bottom of the aquarium, with sharks and other fish swimming in the whole thing. The penguins are out walking in our pic, the zoo people take them for a walk through the zoo at least every week. They live at the aquarium, though. They have one big corner enclosure where they can be on ice or in the water.
Do you love the sea dragon? Mom thinks they are really beautiful fish, and like sea horses, the male keeps the eggs safe in a pouch on his belly. They blend right in with the leaves on the plants and when you go to the aquarium, sometimes it takes awhile to spot them because they are so well camouflaged.
I hope you are having a good day today and I thank you for your ongoing support! Hugs, Peppino

  Hi ya Cuz~
I hope you had a wonderful day! It was pretty nice here. I am on my second toy in a week and had a great time making a lovely pile of wood at the bottom of my play cage! Mom is off tonight and tomorrow night so she took a nap and then had to go to the bank. She and Ian are giving Jennifer a new Kindle for Christmas and she wanted to use dad's account because he gets free shipping on Amazon. I think Jennifer is going to be very surprised!
I got squawked again yesterday morning and couldn't get back on until last night! It keeps happening on Sundays!! I have no idea how long it stays that way since mom had to work last night so she had to give up and go to sleep! I'm so sorry I didn't get by! I thought they took weekends off!hahahahaha I think they should take the weekends off!!
The diapers for Mandy were very expensive and they don't fit right. Mom is using duct tape! She thinks just buying baby diapers would be less expensive and she can just cut a hole in them for Mandy's tail! She is doing okay with the pads during the day and she likes getting a bath now. It's a lot of extra work but that is just the way it is going to be because of her age!
They do make birdie diapers! Mom remembers seeing and ad for them in the back of a Bird Talk magazine. She couldn't figure out why you would need them but if the bird travels you might need them!
The dinner sounds like it was wonderful. It's so nice for your parents to have such awesome friends.
Your cage sounds like it is going to work well for you! I am glad you are learning to adjust to it and it sounds nice to have fluffy washcloths in there! Your mom is very smart to figure that all out!
No Christmas decorations around here yet. We still have Autumn stuff up! Perhaps mom will get motivated tomorrow and get some stuff out. I will be right here to supervise!
Enjoy the evening and know that I love you to my cousin! My life is so very blessed because I have you!

I hope you are having a wonderful day! Lots of cleaning and some cooking going on here. Kind of boring really but I have a new toy in the play cage to keep me occupied.
Mom put the Trans Siberian Orchestra CD on for us to listen to. She just love the Christmas Canon. She love the Canon and this version of it is very beautiful! I'm enjoying it. The new computer does not have the same music program as the old one so mom has not figured out how to get more music on her MP3 player! Ian gave mom his old IPod since he got a smart phone and it does everything the Ipod does. Now mom has to figure out how to use it! She can turn it on and off! So far that's about it!Hahahahahaha It's rather embarrassing to have a mom who is so clueless when it comes to technology!

  Hello Cuz~
I hope you had a wonderful day. It's been crazy here and I am so sorry I have not been able to get notes out like I should! I would not want you to think you are not important to me because that is not true!!
You know our dog Mandy is very old now and can no longer go up or down the stairs anymore. Mom got the wee wee pads and put them all over the balcony but Mandy has been stubborn about them! She has hip dysplasia so she tends to slip a lot. She has figured out what the pads are for at least!
When mom gets home in the mornings Mandy is so excited to see her that she just pees wherever she is! Mom has been spending a whole bunch of time mopping floors, cleaning the carpet and washing blanket and towels which has left me very little time for the BC! Mom just finished working 8 days straight too!
Mom is going to put diapers on Mandy at night now. It's easier to give her a bath everyday then it is to do all this cleaning. The warm baths seems to help her too!
Everything is just fine here. We had 3 very cold days but the clouds rolled back in today and it's warmed up! I sorry you guys got cold fronts too! Ours happened pretty quickly and it went from 40 on day to 17 the next!
Your new cage set up sounds like a fabulous idea. I know you are angry that your mom messed with your cage! I'm the same way but you know mom did it so it will be easier for you to get around in! I just hope you are feeling well and not having any more seizures! I can see how flipping on your back would freak everyone out!
Enjoy your evening! Leaving a vote and a big hug! You are always in my prayers cousin and I want you to be health and happy always!

`Ü´ Are you ready for some FOOT~BALL???
A 3rd Annual Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game of … FOOT~BALL???

This evening … to be played on the Milonga Page (#165848)

8:00 pm Eastern
7:00 pm Central
6:00 pm Mountain
5:00 pm Pacific
4:00 pm Aleutian

Jake <Ö) may have been a “BAD Parrot”, but he says it well: “Be there or BE SQUARE!!!”

Well, the Defense still needs to know their jobs, so without any further delay, let’s get started with the Job Descriptions, Mr Scion!

Strong Safety – Generally lines up in the secondary*, but often aligns close to the line of scrimmage In most Defenses this Player lines up over the Tight End and is responsible for both playing the pass and supporting the run.

Free Safety – Lines up deepest in the secondary. He defends the deep middle of the field and seldom has man-to-man** responsibilities. A coach wants this Player free to read the QuarterBack and take the proper angle to break up or intercept any forward pass thrown over the middle or deep to the sidelines.

Defensive Back – A member of the Defensive secondary. Defensive Backs form the line of Defense whose job is to prevent Receivers from making catches and then gaining lots of yards after the catch.

CornerBack – Lines up on one of the wide sides of the field, usually opposite an offensive Receiver. Called a CornerBack because he is isolated on the “corner” edge of the Defensive alignment.

Defensive End – Lines up at the end of the Defensive line. The job of the Defensive End is to contain the Running Back on running plays to the outside, and rush the QuarterBack*** on passing plays.

Defensive Tackle – Lines up on the interior of the Defensive line. The duties of a Defensive Tackle include stopping the Running Back on running plays, getting pressure up the middle on passing plays, and occupying Blockers so the LineBackers can roam free.

LineBacker – Lines up behind the Defensive linemen and in front of the Defensive backfield. The LineBackers are a Team's second line of Defense. Each Team has two outside LineBackers.

Nose Tackle – a Defensive Tackle who lines up directly across from the Center. Also known as the Nose Guard, the primary responsibilities of the Nose Tackle are to stop the run and occupy the Offensive lineman to keep them from blocking the LineBackers.

It seems to me that it is MUCH more complicated to try to understand Defense than it is Offense! (But then again, I am a simple GRITS GirlBird, and unaccustomed to such strategizing. We are more frequently seen serving snacks and refreshments during FootBall Games. **TeeHee**) The drawings I have to support today’s information on the Defense eggsplain more of where Defensive Players can line up. The eggsecution of Defensive plays is much more involved than I could ever hope to delve into in this format. I suppose that means that the Defensive Players on the Teams in the Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl have a lot of improvising to look forward to during the Game!

It is my sincere desire that the information on both the Offensive and Defensive Squads has served to make your spectator participation in the Game of FootBall more enjoyable, and that it has been a help in preparing the Players for the Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl. It has been an honor and a privilege to research and present what I could find to give you more pleasure in The Game.

*secondary—the Defensive players who line up behind the LineBackers and wide on the corners of the field opposite the receivers and defend the pass. These defensive players, who are called Defensive Backs, are separated into Safeties, CornerBacks, and, occasionally, Nickel Backs (an eggstra Defensive Back who is used in some Defensive Formations).

**man-to-man [coverage]—pass coverage in which every potential Offensive Receiver is assigned to a particular Defender Each Defensive Player must stick to his Receiver like glue and make sure he doesn’t catch a pass thrown in his direction.

***rush the QuarterBack—use whatever moves the Player has to get a sack, or disrupt the throw.

  `Ü´ Greetings & A Happy Day After
Thanksgiving to you Mr Scion! I do hope your Thanksgiving was one of contemplation and appreciation for all the blessings you share with your flockily, as well as loving time together to celebrate all of those blessings.

As I mentioned several days ago, my momma and daddy were blessed with not only the very first Holiday Celebration (or celebration of any event or holiday) with EVERYone in daddy’s family being present, but also a several day long visit with my Grandma beforehand, and a couple of days to come still with my Uncle.

As a result, I have not been able to visit as regularly as I otherwise would have. But parrotsonally, I did use the contemplations of the Holiday to count the many featheriendship blessings that I’ve had in the process of this Quest for the Bird of the Month Crown that I’ve been on this month, AND the love and support you’ve all shown me in that effort. And I eggstend my most heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you.

For today I thought I would lighten the spirit of the Campaign and share a funny story. We will, however, finish up with our FootBall information before the month is out.

This is a story that I “made up” about my frother Jake. The originally disguised parrot’s identity was changed to reveal Jake’s NON-innocence. **GiGGle**

BAD Jake <Ö)

Jake joined The K Kritter Korral as the first Blue-and-Gold Macaw after fister Rosalie made her Journey to The Rainbow Bridge. He had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.

Every word out of his beak was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. Momma tried and tried to change his attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else she could think of to clean up his vocabulary.

Finally, Momma was fed up and she yelled at Jake <Ö). Jake <Ö), of course, yelled back. Momma shook him and he got angrier and even more rude. In desperation, Momma threw up her hands, grabbed Jake <Ö) and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes Jake <Ö) squawked and kicked and screamed. (And Jake <Ö) screams LIKE A GIRL! **TeeHee**.) Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a sound was heard for over a minute.

Fearing that she had hurt him, Momma quickly opened the door to the freezer. Jake <Ö) calmly stepped out onto Momma’s outstretched hand and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I am sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

Momma was absolutely stunned at the change in Jake’s <Ö) attitude.

As she was about to ask Jake <Ö) what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, he spoke up, very softly, and asked … "May I ask what the turkey did?"

  Hi ya Cuz~
I hope you had a wonderful day! We did some laundry today. The turkey will be cooked in the morning finally! Mom did not take into account that it was going to be cooked 3 days early so it needed 3 more days to defrost! They had the ham last night and it was very good. I got my corn bread so I am very happy!
The BC has been moving very slowly when I am moving from page to page. It seems to need to think for a minute before it goes to the next page!! We logged off for a while and are trying it again. So far it's been better.
How are you feeling? I sure hope you are doing well. THere is a web site mom reads once in a while called Bird Tricks and there was a blog about hadicap cage set ups. It might give your mom some ideas.
You know I pray for you everyday. I want you to stay healthy and happy always! I know you must have some days that are very hard but hang in there Scion!!
Mom starts an 8 day stretch at work tomorrow night so I will wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving in case I don't get much time online tomorrow! I am thankful to have you for my cousin! My life is so much richer having you in it and I feel so very blessed!

`Ü´ Greetings & A Lovely Monday to You
Mr Scion!

I do hope that your Saturday and Sunday were full of fun and productivity. I know in my case I had to relinquish Momma’s eggsclusive attention and assistance on my Campaign to be your December Bird of the Month to more pressing parrontal matters around our K Kritter Korral. (The portion of Sunday during which Momma was available to bring me to your page for a visit, the BirdChannel was not cooperating. You might say that their GPS was out of order! **TeeHee**)

You see, Momma and Daddy were informed that they could eggspect a visit from my Grandma from Idaho from later today, to last thru Thursday morning when they all gather at Daddy’s youngest brother’s home about an hour away from us for the first Family Celebration with everyone present since Momma and Daddy have known each other. Grandma was eager to be able to spend time here with Momma and Daddy, and all of us fids of course, before joining the rest of the family for a concurrent Celebration of Thanksgiving and her BirthDay on Thursday! Then she will remain with my Uncle and his family until she returns to her home in Idaho later in the week, while my other Uncle comes to pay us a visit over the long weekend.

So, all of this is to say that my visits may be a bit sporadic from now thru the end of the month, due to Grandma’s visit, the Holiday weekend with my Uncle visiting, and the upcoming Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game. I do apologize in advance for any visits I shall have to forego. But rest assured that I shall continue to do my utmost to bring you the maximum amount of FootBall information in the time we have left together.

And on that note, let us get straight to the information I’ve promised you next about the Offensive Squad on a FootBall team …

Let’s begin our eggsamination of the individual Positions on the Offensive Squad.

QuarterBack – The Player who usually receives the ball from the Center at the start of each play. He informs his TeamMates in the huddle of the play that will be run and then, after the Center snaps* the ball to him, either hands the ball to a Running Back or throws to a Receiver.

Center – The Player who hikes (or snaps) the ball to the QuarterBack at the start of each play. The term comes from the fact that this Player is flanked on either side by a Guard and a Tackle; he’s the “MiddleMan” (or Center) in a contingent of five Offensive LineMen or Blockers. He handles the ball on every play and also snaps the ball to the Punter and Holder.

Guard – There are two Guards on every play, and they line up on either side of the Offensive Center. The Guards protect the QuarterBack from an Inside Rusher; they block Defenders immediately across from them and also swing out, or pull**, and run toward either end [of the line] to block any Defender when the ball carrier runs wide°.

Come visit me, `Ü´ Ruby Francesca Begonia.

11/24/2014 12:02.59 PM Report This Comment
Tackle – Both Offensive and Defensive, on Offense they are Outside Blockers on the line of scrimmage°°.

Tight End – Serves as a BIG Receiver [Oh MY!] and also a Blocker. Unlike a Wide Receiver, this Player generally lines up beside the Offensive Tackle either to the right or to the left of the QuarterBack. (Also “Strong Side+”)

Wide Receiver – The Player who uses his speed and quickness to elude Defenders and catch the FootBall, but who isn’t primarily a Blocker. Wide Receivers are also known as “pass catchers” [but I-I-I would parrotsonally NOT disparage one so!]. Also called a WideOut.

Running Back – A Player who runs with the FootBall. Running Backs are also referred to as TailBacks and HalfBacks, depending on their exact responsibilities and alignment.

FullBack – A Player who lines up in the Offensive backfield++ and generally is responsible for blocking for the Running Back and pass-blocking to protect the QuarterBack. FullBacks also serve as short-yardage runners.

I would also like to call your attention to a display of several of the basic Offensive Formations which appear in the Gallery at the bottom of my page. (They also appear in my Profile Picture at the top of my page; but they are much clearer and contain eggsplanatory text in the photos in the Gallery.) I hope these are of use to you in recognizing some of what happens on the actual field of play the next time you watch a FootBall Game.

I am also including several definitions of terms used in the above Position Descriptions at the end of this note.

Have a Greyt Day! Perhaps enjoy watching The Jets play The Bills at 7:00 pm on CBS, or The Ravens play at The Saints at 8:30 pm on ESPN. Both times are EST. Remember, it is virtually illegal to watch a FootBall Game quietly. So do what we Avians are most well-known for doing … **S*Q*U*A*W*K** . **I*T** . **U*P** ! ! !

*snap—the action in which the ball in handed or hiked by the Center to the QuarterBack, to the Holder on a kick attempt, or to the Punter.
**pull—when a player leaves one area of the field, generally moving back and then over, to block in an area other than his normal position.
°run wide
°°line of scrimmage—the imaginary boundary between the two teams prior to the snap of the ball. The Offense’s and Defense’s scrimmage lines are defined by the tip of the ball closest to them and stretch from sideline to sideline. The Defensive Team usually lines up less than a yard away from where the ball is placed.
+strong side—the side of the Offensive formation where the Tight End aligns. With a right-handed QuarterBack, the strong side is usually to his right side.
++backfield—the group of Offensive Players (the Running Backs and QuarterBack) who line up behind the line of scrimmage (vs the Offensive LineMen and/or Receivers who line up at the line of scrimmage).

  Hi ya Cuz~
I hope you are all having a wonderful day! It's still grey, wet and windy at my house! We have the fireplace on and it's very cozy inside! Mom tells me that if it were sunshine and warm all the time we wouldn't be able to use the fireplace!!
They had the first big snow up on the mountain today and it was a mess!! Snoqualmie pass is the main road between west and east out here and a lot of people use it. There were cars spinning all over the place! Some people didn't check the pass conditions before they went so they didn't have chains with them. Everyone who uses that road knows that you always check the pass conditions no matter what time of the year it is!
Mom is going to get the pantry straightened out today since it looks like something exploded in there!hehehehehe We have too much stuff and need to get some meals cooked. Mom only works 2 nights and then she'll be off 2 nights so we will have our Thanksgiving then. She got a ham and a turkey since they were great deals! Most stores don't do the cheap turkeys anymore but mom found one where she got the turkey for 48 cents a pound! I'm just looking forward to the corn bread! Maybe some pumpkin pie too!
Do your parronts celebrate Thanksgiving? I know it's not the same kind of holiday in Mexico but since it's about being Thankful, I think everyone should celebrate!
You enjoy your day! I hope you are doing well and are healthy and happy! Leaving a vote and a hug for you!

`Ü´ Greetings & OH! MY!! GOODness!!!
Mr Scion!

Does anybirdy ELSE realize how much there is to KNOW about FootBall??? Why … I had no idea how much I DIDN’T KNOW until Momma consented to help me learn for the sake of my Quest for the Bird of the Month Crown, and sharing her passion for The Game so that I might understand all of the HoopLa that I hear coming from the area of the television every time she watches a Game!!

Well! As promised, we shall begin our investigation into the individual responsibilities of the Players in each Position today. But I fear it will never fit into one day’s note. So we shall simply spread it out over several days so that you, My Featheriend, can take it all in and not fall asleep before you learn what you need to know!

You may recall from our earlier information that the NFL limits active, uniformed Players to 45 per Team on Game Day.

Each FootBall Team has 11 Players per side: 11 on Offense and 11 on Defense. Teams are allowed to play with fewer than 11 Players (and for the LIFE of me I can’t IMAGINE WHY they would WANT to???), but they are penalized for having more than 11 Players on the Field during play. Rarely, a few eggsceptionally talented Players may play both Offense and Defense in the NFL. (And I do believe that we have a few of those eggsceptionally talented Birdie FootBall Players on the Indians and Pilgrims Team Rosters!)

A typical NFL Game Day roster includes three QuarterBacks, a Punter, a PlaceKicker, a Kick Return Specialist, eight Offensive LineMen, four Running Backs, five Receivers, two Tight Ends, seven Defensive LineMen, seven LineBackers, and six Defensive Backs. (The NONSTARTING Players – that is, those who are not among the 22 or so Players who are listed in the Starting LineUp – are considered Reserves, and many of them are Specialists.)

In the NFL, an additional Player can be in uniform, but he must be a QuarterBack and enter the Game only after the other QuarterBacks have been removed from the Game because of injury. When this eggstra QuarterBack, or 46th Player, enters the Game, the other QuarterBacks are deemed ineligible and cannot return to that Game even if they are healthy.

With our very own 3rd Annual Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game approaching in a little over a week, and Players needing and wanting to know how to practice to yield the most effective results, when we next meet I shall delve into the individual Positions on the Offensive Squad.

Before I depart this evening, though, I do wish to thank you, once again, for your wonderful continuing support of my efforts to be your Christmas Queen on BirdChannel. I am truly beginning to feel the eggscitement of the prospect of having my dream realized. You and your featheriendship are appreciated more than you know.

  `Ü´ Greetings & Good Evening
Mr Scion!

I am flitting by this evening for a very short visit to share with you a little bit of the great fun I had this Tuesday past presenting a program with Momma for The Sylvan Seniors at Mt Sylvan United Methodist Church in Durham, where Momma and Daddy attend. (They do not attend the s-e-n-i-o-r-s functions. **TeeHee** They attend CHURCH there.)

Momma and I were given half an hour to address the group, to share what Life with a Parrot is like, for most of them had never had an eggsperience with a companion parrot; particularly not one of my size! When we have a program like that, Momma usually starts out by eggsplaining how she and Daddy came to start a flock like the K Kritter Korral, and how it grew; and then, through sheer human curiosity, we have a wonderful conversation about what all is entailed in living with a parrot (or parrotS). Of course, I-I-I contribute greatly to program content; this time including a stroll back and forth in front of the front row at one point, for emphasis of the subject matter at hand. (At just the right point in time I climbed down off my play stand and let Momma know I had something to add. **GRiN**)

When our time for the presentation was over, the group had some lunch together. I was given my fill of some lovely white grapes by a number of brave ladies and gentlemen, and then several of them wanted to have their picture taken with me. In my Gallery at the bottom of my page you can see just a couple of the lovely folks I visited with parrotsonally.

I shall return with those promised eggsplanations of the positions of the players on a FootBall team when next I visit.

From 1920 to 1934, the NFL did not have a set number of games for teams to play, instead setting a minimum. The league mandated a 12-game regular season for each team beginning in 1935, later shortening this to 11 games in 1937 and 10 games in 1943, mainly due to World War II. After the war ended, the number of games returned to 11 games in1946 and to 12 in 1947. The NFL went to a 14-game schedule in 1961, which it retained until switching to the current 16-game schedule in 1978. Proposals to increase the regular season to 18 games have been made, but have been rejected in labor negotiations with the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA).

The NFL operated in a two-conference system from 1933 to 1966, where the champions of each conference would meet in the NFL Championship Game. If two teams tied for the conference lead, they would meet in a one-game playoff to determine the conference champion. In 1967, the NFL expanded from 15 teams to 16 teams. Instead of just evening out the conferences by adding the expansion New Orleans Saints to the seven-member Western Conference, the NFL realigned the conferences and split each into two four-team divisions. The four conference champions would meet in the NFL playoffs, a two-round playoff. The NFL also operated the Playoff Bowl (officially the Bert Bell Benefit Bowl) from 1960 to 1969. Effectively a third-place game, pitting the two conference runners-up against each other, the league considers Playoff Bowls to have been exhibitions rather than playoff games. The league discontinued the Playoff Bowl in 1970 due to its perception as a game for losers.

Following the addition of the former AFL teams into the NFL in 1970, the NFL split into two conferences with three divisions each. The expanded league, now with twenty-six teams, would also feature an expanded eight-team eight-game playoff, the participants being the three division champions from each conference as well as one 'wild card' team (the team with the best win percentage) from each conference. In 1978, the league added a second wild card team from each conference, bringing the total number of playoff teams to ten, and a further two wild card teams were added in 1990 to bring the total to twelve. When the NFL expanded to 32 teams in 2002, the league realigned, changing the division structure from three divisions in each conference to four divisions in each conference. As each division champion gets a playoff bid, the number of wild card teams from each conference dropped from three to two.

Next time, I shall be pleased to present The Players who will be participating in the upcoming 3rd Annual Milonga Thanksgiving Bowl Game, as well as the CheerLeading Squads! Be sure to tune in to find out which birdies will be playing in which positions and on which squad. In the coming days we shall investigate the distinctions between the positions!

  `Ü´ Greetings & Happy Sunday
Mr Scion!

It would seem that most of North America is in the middle of an early onset of Winter, wouldn’t it? There are those FootBall Fans who would call this REAL FootBall Weather! And in view of the “chill” in the air, I am bringing mugs of Hot Cocoa (with marshmallows, if you like) for us to enjoy during my visit today. But this is what I would like to inquire of you: Is this weather inspiring everybirdy to prepare for the upcoming 3rd ANNUAL MILONGA THANKSGIVING BOWL GAME??? **Tee Hee**

Today I am deviating a bit from the previous path of information about the NFL in order to address two questions that were presented by several birdies regarding my last note.

First, a number of you asked if the entire building at 345 Park Avenue in New York City was occupied by the offices of the NFL. Well … no. For an inside look at the Ted Moudis Associates designed NFL headquarters, home to the employees that help power our favorite sport, I direct your attention to the Gallery at the bottom of my Profile Page. The modern, multi-level office space is located, as I mentioned in my last note, at 345 Park Avenue in Lower Manhattan, and was designed by TMA with the goal to “carry its strong brand identity throughout the design.” The office includes a League Room for the owners of our favorite franchises to hold meetings, employee cafeteria complete with kitchen along with an employee store, fitness center for staying in shape with lockers and showers, and a whole lot more. The 4 main floors of the office building were designed to represent the “Four Pillars” of the National Football League, which include The Game, The Teams, The Fans, and of course The Innovation. The 5th floor of the building houses the Officiating Command Center, and the 6th floor includes multiple outdoor terrace areas.

Secondly, several birdies were curious about who the three “pre-NFL/AFL-merger” teams were. As nearly as I can discern, those teams were the AAFC Teams the Cleveland Browns, the San Francisco 49ers, and the original version of the Baltimore Colts.

Since its inception in 1920, the NFL fended off several rival leagues. Before 1960, the most important rival was the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), which began play in 1946. The AAFC differed from the NFL in several ways, and the AAFC's perennial champions—the Cleveland Browns—were considered to be one of the best teams in professional football during that time. However, due to the AAFC's poor financial situation, the league disbanded after the 1949 season.

I do hope I am providing you with interesting and accurate information that satisfies your curiosity about American FootBall, its history and its structure. I am finding the details of my research quite entertaining. Are you?

I am very happy to report than Momma’s hand is much improved! While there is still a bit of swelling and light bruising on the back of her hand, she is now able to fully use her fingers with only minimal hindrance and no discomfort. Thank you so very much for your thoughts and prayers, good wishes and concern. (I believe she and Daddy have plans to purchase a new NylaBone for Mr Tyson; one that he cannot fit through his crate to deposit on the floor and cause more accidents!!!)

When I continue with the background information of American FootBall, we shall be moving along to Season and Playoff Development. I am looking forward to sharing what I have learned in that area with you.

Toutes alors, mon ami
[Until then, My Featheriend]

  `Ü´ Greetings & Welcome to Week 11 …
of the 2014 NFL Season! The week “kicked off” (**TeeHee** … if you will pardon the pun) last night with the Buffalo Bills traveling to play the Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium. The Dolphins won handily, 22-9. I do hope that you were able to enjoy some Stitch’s Spicy PopCorn with the Game!

It was so lovely to receive your visit, Mr Scion, and I thank you so very much for your vote that raises the tally toward my Quest for the BOTM Crown. And it is, once again, with apologies that I am a day late returning the kindness. For those of you who did not see the note on my page, Momma had a bit of an accident which prohibited her being able to assist me in visiting you. It involved a little mishap with a dog toy on which Momma slipped and, in the attempt to catch herself and prevent falling, she injured her hand on the door frame. It is very sore yet today, so I will not be able to leave any parrotsonal comments on my visit as I prefer doing, but will be resolved to using the copy and paste method of delivery for the time being, until Momma’s had is less sore. (It seems that she can click on the left side of the mouse without too much discomfort. The right button is a bit painful. And typing is one key at a time; not conducive to individualizing each note.) Be that as it may, she is determined to keep in step with my FootBall information for you.

Now, let’s pick up where we left off, completing the Founding and History of the NFL before we move on to Season and Playoff Development next.

UNTIL THE 1960s, the NFL was the dominant professional football league and faced little competition. Rival leagues included three separate American Football Leagues and the All-America Football Conference (AAFC), none of which lasted for more than four seasons (although several teams from the AAFC joined the NFL after the league dissolved in 1949). A new professional league, the fourth American Football League (AFL), began play in 1960. The upstart AFL began to challenge the established NFL in popularity, gaining lucrative television contracts and engaging in a bidding war with the NFL for free agents and draft picks. The two leagues announced a merger on June 8, 1966, to take full effect in 1970. In the meantime, the leagues would hold a common draft and championship game. The game, the Super Bowl, was held four times before the merger, with the NFL winning Super Bowl I and Super Bowl II, and the AFL winning Super Bowl III and Super Bowl IV. After the league merged, it was split into two conferences: the National Football Conference (NFC), consisting of most of the pre-merger NFL teams, and the American Football Conference (AFC), consisting of all of the AFL teams as well as three pre-merger NFL teams.
