My first owner could not keep me and gave me to a bird rescue... I was one of the lucky ones, since I was "rescued" from the rescue. But there were so many other wonderful birds there. I often wonder if they found humans as nice as mine..

Hi! My name is Turtle Bird

I am from Manlius, NY.

Turbirdula, Turtle Birdle, The Savage Green Dragon, Terrible Turtle

9 years old   M

Pine nuts, dried papaya, snow peas, shrimp

My Mom's shoulder, the spiral resin perch in day-glo yellow, the shower perch when Mom takes a shower, and lying on my back in her hand while she scratches my head

Hates phones! (Why would my human talk to that awful thing instead of to ME?)

She makes new toys for me every day, loves to kiss and cuddle and make me laugh

Flips upside-down to lie in food dish just for fun. Loves to lie on his back in my hand to have his head scritched, and when told "head scratch" will present his head very nicely for scratching..

Life is good! Now, scratch my head!.

  Turtle Bird~
Kelly here! I'm in luck today- I have command of the computer so am making a big ol' swoop of the BC to visit a bunch of friends I've not said hi to for a while. Trust your spring is winding up nicely and you're ready for the summer season to start. (It is technically still spring, amazingly enough.) We've had a very cool spring here in IL, a nice change, according to what I hear my parronts saying. You ask me, it could've been a little warmer. There were lots of days I couldn't go out to the aviary because it was just a little too cool for a bird from Africa! Mom assures me that next week is going to feel a bit more like the Savanna so I'm countin' on lots of hours in the aviary. That means spray baths (I'm okay with those), fruit kabobs (it doesn't matter how messy I am outside!) and loads of vitamin D. I'll also get to work on my imitation of the weed eater, the birds at the feeders, and the neighbor lady yelling "Geooooorge?" Fun!

I'm hoping all is well with you... and that you know, deep in your little Senegal heart that you are missed and loved. K *v*

  Hi Turtle Bird
Well it has been forever since I came winging by your page. Thought I would fly by and say hi, find out how you are doing. You are looking in fine feather. Things have been ticking along here as usual. Dad has been back to England a few times but Mom hasn't gone. She stayed here with me which is just as it should be. Hehehe. Hope you will fly by to say hi. MM

Come visit me, Caden - cheeky chap & Monty Mae adventuress extraordinaire.

  My Dearest Turtle Bird
Whatever happen to the days when you and I exchanged a note or two each and every week? Those were the days! I myself am making only about two appearances on the BC each week, due in part to my human's foolish undertaking of extracurricular interests and an influx in menial labor of late. And here I was looking forward to the winter months for their supposed surplus of indoor time, time that I thought was to be spent communicating with friends far and near. *peph* Yeah, like that hasn't happened. I suppose, since I have the chance to visit with you, I'd best get to visiting. I've spent the last couple of months working on growing in some serious flight feathers and exercising the wings up and down the hallway, back and forth between kitchen and dining room, and of late, diving off the loft, swooping through the same said dining room and back into the kitchen. What a glee party it's been. Becuase I opted to make take some of these flight paths when actually being transported to other undesired destintations (my cage) I was issued a warning stating that my flight license was about to be revoked ifb the self-made flight plans weren't cancelled. No could do. Had to be me; free! And so went the wing tips, my altitude capabilities, and the fun. Now it's back to holding out a foot in a gesture of demoralizing begging, hoping to hitch a ride to the places I used to jolly well take myself. Ahh, the trials and tribulations of a Pet Bird. This Pet has made a recent discovery, aside from mom's not kidding about the wing trimming; I like pomegranate seeds! I'd say I enjoy eating them just for the joy it is to fling the crimson juice all over the place but that aside, I really like the taste. Another unique fact is that I seem to be the only one in the birdroom who has a fondness for the fruit. It's something I can call all my own! While a few seeds are put into every birdies' bowl, if they don't eat them within a short time, I get them all! Little by little I'm taking an interest in fresh foods, something I think mom thought I was going to chose to avoid for eternity. What I'm hoping is that it won't be an eternity before I'm able to make it back to your page and leave you another note, a little update, proof that I think of you and miss you dreadfully. I can only hope that all is well with you and your family. Sending kisses from K *v*

I WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
Turtle Bird!~ Nothing could've been more of a Tiding of Joy than your Christmas note. Seriously! It is such a treat to hear from you, particularly knowing how busy your Mom is and what a challenge it can be to get them to type a word or two for you when they've got so many distractions in their life. I've not been on the BC as much as I'd like this past month... just too much going on in other arenas of life around here right now so there's certainly no reason for you to be apologizing for the absence of your treasured presence on my page. Oh, I'm just so excited that you've come by, said Hi and let me know all is well with you. Good to know you're steeped in gifts and goodies. Sounds like you're still maintaining that supreme influence I do my best to emulate around here (you are my muse and my inspiration, you know). LOL about your breath having the Pine-Sol scent... you better watch it; they'll be dangling you in the car on the rearview mirror... I've seen those little tree-scented things jostling about as the vehicle motors its way about town, attempting to freshen the interior! Please know, T-Bird, that your friendship has been the sweetest of gifts in my life. You are a treasure, you darling bird. Here's wishing to you and your family the Merriest of Holidays and the hope that makes the New Year promising. Christmas Kisses from K *v*

  Turtle Bird!
Kelly Bird here! How are you these days? Trust you've got everything still in some reasonable sense of order there. Challenging job, ain't it. I've about decided it's not feasible for this crazy place. Ever since I and my flockmates moved into our own room and the little crazies gave up actually living in a cage chaos has reigned supreme. The 'tiels and parakeets fly about at will, landing and loitering where they jolly-well feel like it and if I really don't want them on my cage I have to take matters into my own wings and encourage the squatters to move on. My perch-potato-ways have been given up for policing of the premises! It's tiring some days. What I'm lovin is that my wings have grown out enough to make it possible for me to fly up tothe limb that hangs from the ceiling where this group has, until just recently, thought themselves safe from retaliation of invasion. I now have the wing-power to lift myself up to their level and move them about in a swift and decisive manner. I've even learned to say 'Go on!'. It's said to the dogs who are always trying to sneak into the birdroom but I use it on the birds as well. Turtle B, maybe your days be merry and colorful... Can't wait for another one of your charming and amusing visits. Until then, kisses from K *v*

  Spooktacular!
Ah, the October photo shoots; they have been quite the experience. I do believe I've grown accustomed to the flurry of activity that's involved in a picture-taking session. I sit off to the side while the prop manager scurries about collecting a variety of objects, arranges them this way or that then sets me right in the midst of these items I'm normally not allowed to come into contact with. I can't explain but when that camera lens moves in close I just go into pose mode and freeze. On the rare occasion I'm in the off mood, I let it be known by paying an over abundance of attention to a nail or scratch the back of my head delicately with a toe. The camera crew knows to back off and give me some space. When I feel I've made mom sweat long enough, 'cause I know she's wondering when the magic's just going to up and end.... she's really hoping it will last through the end of this month as I've been advertising 31 Nu Pics, I resume The Pose and smirk at the sound of her sigh of relief. The amazing thing is that I don't just fly off; my wings have finally become useful again, doing what a bird's wings are supposed to do; carry me away! Everyday now I have several flight practice sessions from the family room, down the hall which as a corner turn in it and then on through the kitchen to the far counter. When I first started this exercise routine I was doing some really heavy breathing with just a short distance of flight. My landings were none to graceful either. Not exactly a plus for a Queen, stumbling all over herself as she makes her not-so-grand entrance. Now I'm able to make the journey four times without showing signs of 'tuckered-out'. ~Knowing how busy your mom is, T. Bird, I really appreciate your notes. I wish you could see how I light up at sight of your name on my page. Your drinking from the spigot at the sink sounds so like you; making a simple routine behavior such a drinking water an entertaining show. Very refreshing, you are. Your Main Pic is perfect for this time of year. Always did like that pic with Mother Nature creating a backdrop perfectly coordinated with your color scheme. You make Autumn all the more beautiful. Good luck with conjuring 'creepy' and 'foreboding'—I can see where that would be a tough one for you. You're just too cute to pull those off, I'm sorry. Where you're mom gets the idea you've got 'scary' down pat, I don't know. Again, all I see is darling. Keep your eye on the sky... this Witch maybe flying by. K *v*

Don't take that wrong though... these are tears of JOY, Baby. The crowning moment of my reign occurred the moment I realized the newest note was from YOU. I was so bummed that this illustrious moment was going to come and go and you would not be here to celebrate it with me, my sweet, ever wonderful, long-time friend. But here you are, being your usual darn charming self and I could not be happier. So you think I'll look good there next to Queen Elizabeth in all the history books to come? (No, I'm not trying out for the Court Jester position; that role goes to you, feet down. Approach the throne and make me laugh!! As for the ear you chopped off, mmmm, at least you didn't attempt the Off with her head! practice. I hear that's a popular one in this castle. Turtle Bird!!!!! You're OK!!!! You cannot imagine the surprise your note was to me this morning. Ok, maybe you can... did you picture a black beak hanging open, eyes pinning, and wings beginning to flap? Well, that was me when I realized it was YOUR signature at the bottom of the note~! Hug! Oh, and another hug!! This is so wonderful!! So, sounds like you had your work cut out for you where your mom is concerned. I got the sensation she was feeling an odd color of blue in those last couple of notes you got her to type for you. Thank goodness you're such an insightful and persistent Sennie; looks like you've kept her hanging in there. A shame you had to resort to some forceful tactics (that fly-by biting) to keep her focused. Hey, we do what we gotta do, right? I'm so bummed to hear about our little Mrs. Peanut. She deserved a different outcome... she was such a trooper. No wonder your mom was feeling bad... she tried so hard to help that little girl, to no avail. ~Flight... you got to experience it for a bit? I've heard them ceiling fans can be a pain, particularly when they wack you in the head. There's a ridiculous number of those dangerous contraptions here. Seems rather like having a car driving around a playground for miniature humans... purposely placing danger where it shouldn't be. My wings are trimmed for the summer so it's easy to carry me out to my aviary. Come winter tho I'm allowed full flight (isn't that nice... I'm allowed... they're my wings and someone else is deciding how long they should be and when.... grrrr) Thank you ever so much for letting me know all is well with you. I hope it improves for your mom... sounds like she's ridiculously busy. We're rockin' on here, Turtle Bird. You do the same there! K *v* p.s. Sorry about the death of your points.   Sunday Evening!
Ah, the weekend's work is concluded and now I've got mom at the computer for a few minutes on my behalf. Actually, the reason I've got her here is 'cause my dad's still busy with his Sunday project. Turns out THAT man is the reason I get slighted on BC Time! If he's home then mom hangs out with him. If he's busy, then YEA, it's computer time for mom and me!! (No wonder I bite that guy out of the blue, for no apparent reason! There IS a REASON... he just hasn't figured it out yet.) Mom spent much of the day working out in the shed, cleaning it up after fall's leaves invited themselves in and winter's dust through a blanket over everything out there. Empty flower pots have been hauled out and set in their summer spots and decorative birdhouses hung in the trees in the yard whose little branches are about to burst with new leaves. I dare say, Spring is comin' right along! I've been informed that one of the horse stalls out there might be converted to a play room for me! Mom told dad that I need some place I can go play without restrictions, someplace where I can chew up anything I feel like tearing apart. It's even big enough to get a little wing flappin' in. There's no window in this stall so it'd a little dark but a great place to go play on say, rainy days or the days I'm just stir crazy indoors. (That would be TODAY.) Time will tell whether or not this grand idea comes to be a reality. You'll be the first to know if it does, trust me! Hopin' your weekend had something to crow about... even tho you're definitely not a crow. Lov you bunches, Turtle Bird. K 'v'

Oh My, Am I Happy to Hear from YOU!
Turtle Birrrrrrd!! Yea!! What a relief to know you're just fine. Now, a depressed mom is not just fine but I've got great faith in you that you can turn her blue into sunny yellows and oranges. Just flash your under-feathers; those are gorgeous! Of course if you're molting, well, that might make your anit-depressant abilities a little weak. That molt thing's a popular activity here too. Not myself, at this moment, but the parakeets, good grief, they look like some body plucked them in preparation for a holiday dinner! I don't know how they fly with so few tails feathers for a rudder! Of course I'm not doing much flying myself anymore. My wings got me into trouble one too many times; a snip-snip put an end to my cruising the house at my leisure. Actually I think the crime that caused the cut was the flying off mom's hand whenever she approached my cage to return me to my space... ahead of when I thought I should be there. Guess the game of 'Fetch' with me as the object to be retrieved wasn't in her game plan. Spoil Sport. Phoooie. Sorry you're all itchy and prickly-feeling. That is just so no fun. Maybe you can get mom to forget about the house cleaning and just sit and scratch all your pesky spots! Leaving you with a hug... share it with your mom for me please. K 'v'

  Happy 1st Day of SPRING!!
Oh, Turtle Bird... it's finally the first day of NOT-Winter. I wonder how things are with you and your mom & dad. It's been awhile since you've been on the good ol' BC... should I be worried? I know these humans get busy with all the other stuff that steals their time away from US but after all your mom's gone through here lately, I'm just hopin' everything's ok, you know. Life's good here. It was better yesterday before 2:30... that was when my wings got a trimmin'. Guess I pushed my luck one too many times. I know I wasn't winning any points with mom for flyin' off her hand if she was trying to carry me back to my cage. I admit I was being a pill but hey, I'm a grey, it's in the genes. I don't think she relished my making her look like a bird dog either, always chasing me around the room! I'd let her get just so close and then I jet off to somewhere else with her close behind. Hey, she should appreciate my efforts at giving her some exercise, I mean, all she does it sit on her bum all day at a desk. She needs to get up and move around a bit. I've been more than happy to help. Well, not any more I won't be. I'm nothing more than a grey chicken now, some feathered thing waddling across the floor. It's SO humiliating. Guess if I'm stuck on the floor I'll just take advantage of the exploration opportunities presented at the level I've neglected for sometime; kitchen cabinets, bookshelves, shoe racks. Why, the oak dowels on those chairs look chewable. *grin* Hopefully no one makes muzzles for parrots. I'll be sportin' one if I don't watch it. Well TBird, you know I'm hoping all is well with you. I couldn't stand it if anything were to happen to my bestest friend. Looking forward to the note that assures me you're happy and healthy. Until that glorious moment... May blue skies be yours...
