I had always wanted an African Grey, particularly a Timneh, and I saw him at my favorite local pet store right after I had gotten a promotion and felt like I had a right to buy myself a "present"! His birthday was one day before my own, so that seemed like a sign as well..

Hi! My name is Pascal

I am an African Grey from Rock Island, IL.

Pascal le Président, Bunches of Oats

7 years old   M

African Grey

bananas, "Sunburst D'Lite" mix

Either the very bottom of my cage (preferably under a box) or way on top of it!

The vacuum cleaner! Also I'm not sure what Mom sees in those conures.

She understands how beautiful and brilliant I am.

I like to sit on top of the cage next to mine and throw things on the floor (there are nice passive birds in there, so my mom has a habit of leaving things there that she doesn't want knocked off)..

I'm the biggest and the best bird in the house..

  Happy Sunday, Pascal!
We love your large flock! Mom would love to get a grey someday. Dad has allergies and asthma so having more then us would really cause dad some problems. Mom is taking down her Christmas decorations today. She started on a few things yesterday. Boy, the holidays went fast this year! Here's a vote, my grey friend!

  Hello, Hello!!
Are we on a roll here or what; a number of notes here at the year's end. I'm lovin' this! What a way to wind up 2009. T
You know, I've come to the conclusion that the more brightly colored a bird, the louder they are. The volume coincides with the accumulation of brilliance, color-wise, not brainiac-ness. Being that the other grey and I are the quietest, I'd say that really supports my theory.
What is it with these smaller birds wanting to kill off us larger creatures? We really are no threat to them. Rainbow bears a similar trait of being unfazed when he has the little bugger Jensen attached to his back with a vise-grip of the beak. He looks imploringly at mom as if to say, "could you help me here?" I'm not seeing any sort of "amusement" there tho. I know I'm not when he targets me. As for you're being impressed with Cleopatra, my beaks sealed, I promise.
With the new year coming in for a landing, I'd like to wish to you and the rest of your flock, vulgar ones included, one blessed with bountiful health, happiness and prosperity. I've no big plans for the Eve of 2010. Do you? If you're like me, you'll be sleeping when the new year arrives. Sweet dreams.... K *v*

Can't wait to hear about the photo session at Teske's. They may not be too crazy about a group your size showing up for pics with Santa but I'll bet they had no complains about your mom coming in there often and picking out a lucky bird to go home with her. Birdies there probably had that very experience on their Wish List for the holiday. I thank you for your vote on my behalf concerning being the featured one in the holiday photos from here. I understand my name's on the list for next year. I shall practice my most alluring pose between now and then, I assure you.

Here's to the last week of 2009; may it be a pleasant finish to the year for you. K *v*

p.s. It's been wonderful chatting with you here lately...

We love your Christmas Card!!!! What a fantastic photo! Can't wait to hear the story about how that all came together. Did you all travel to see Santa or did you snag him while he was checking out the size of your chimney? (I didn't put a stainless steel cage or any big playstand on my list because I knew good and well it wouldn't fit down our stack.)

Thank you for adding me to holiday address list. I feel so very fortunate! K *v*

  *‹•›* Wishing You a Merry Christmas *‹•›*
Pascal! From me and mine to you and yours, a very Happy Holly•Day!

Sounds as though things remain very interesting at your place. What is it with these conures and their thirst for war? Seems the Christmas spirit has inspired the army here to lay down their weapons and let Peace reign supreme. I pity the fool who wakes them the day AFTER Christmas. They'll likely have some pent-up aggression to let off. I'm enjoying the stillness for now. Yesterday the Jenday was caught sitting in between Rainbow the macaw and myself on top of R's cage as though he was maybe comforted by the protection of our presence. Mom was pleasantly surprised to see such camaraderie among us. The ugly truth of the matter is, it's HER than makes Jensen morph into a devil. It's that kissin' and huggin' we get from mom that drives that conure crazy. I need some pointers from you on how to fly under the radar of these characters' aggression. You're definitely onto something, being out of the target zone of their rage. Maybe it's that natural dignity thing. I've sent mine sailing since talking up free flight whenever I jolly well feel like it. Used to be I was quiet, calm, cool, collected. That appears to be a thing of the past. I'm now the Wild Child of Warren County! Into everything and loving it!
Some days I even surprise myself. And aren't surprises the nicest thing to recieve?!
Yes, about that Christmas party- mom was quite bummed about missing out on it again due to inclement weather. An Easter celebration sounds like an Eggcellent idea. Hopefully a tornado won't be inspired by the planning of such an event... the Club seems to have a knack with weather and parties...

Again, Merry Christmas to all of you. Kisses from K *v*

  A "Hi" Back from Kelly
Here I went and told you my mom was ready to head up your direction and then she ended up spending the evening with me after all. Our driveway and road were already glazed over with a thin sheen of ice by the time mom needed to depart and not knowing how much worse it could get as the evening progressed she thought to not risk an accident and stay home. I believe last year's club party was missed because of weather. She was bummed about missing it again.
You mentioned that Suns can be pushy. In my grey-matter opinion, I believe that description applies to all conures in general. There's honestly a whole lot of push and shove around here now that we've been inundated with the species. The dynamics of the quad seemingly changes every week. Sometimes it's Kirby the GC running Riza and Jensen (the sunnie & jenday) off the island tree, next it's Riza telling Zorro he can't eat out of a certain bowl. I don't particularly care who's doing what because it doesn't generally effect me. There was this one incident though; a literal run-in with Jensen (the Jenday). For some reason, likely a major case of jealousy) that bird is determined to take me down. Forgetting that the crazy conure is a Grey-seeking missile, mom set me down on his play table. Within seconds that bird was off the perches and rampaging his way towards me and before I realized what was coming, he hit me square in the chest and knocked me over backwards off onto the floor. It happened so fast I wasn't able to break the fall with a flutter of the wings. That's not the only time that little bugger's taken me on. I've been on mom's hand and had that imp zip around behind her neck and down her arm with such speed there's no time to come up with an escape plan. That time I hit the floor with a Jenday attached to my back. While he didn't do any damage to my skin, he managed to ruffle a few feathers. Needless to say, I'd just as soon not hitch a ride on mom if that mad character's on her anywhere. I'm not the only one he has a passion for killing. He's been a leech on Rainbow's back a couple of times. Lucky for the foolish little feller, neither R nor I have murderous retaliation plans. But the Shebs... if he pulls that trick on HER, I'm fairly sure she won't find any humor in his behavior. For some unknown reason he shows absolutely no animosity towards Alfie the DYHA. Maybe it's because mom never gets to hug or kiss on that bird. Jensen's attacks seem to be aimed at only us bigger birds who like hands-on, up-close attention from mom. I'd say he has major issues with sharing!
Okay, now that I've prattled away for ages, I suppose I'd best let you go. Good luck with the Red Princess and the betrothal of friendship that's been put in your future. Your approach of speaking in complete sentences to bring mom's attention back to where it belongs is a capital idea. Here's to you and your grey matter! K

Come visit me, Kelly.

  Hey Pascal
Great to hear from you. Really, no need for apologies about a fluctuation in writing. I completely understand. We have a little advantage in that we have outside-of-the-BC contact, or at least our moms do. Mine regrets not being there for Brad's talk at last month's meeting now that she knows there were just a few in attendance. I'll have you know your little line about being at the Christmas party is pretty much why she's going to be there tonight!
You inquired as to how the flock here's doing; everyone's healthy and happy. The addition of four conures to this lot hasn't much affected me. As I don't use my cage anymore, preferring to camp out in a variety of places in the room, Riza the Sunnie took over the vacant lot. Had I wanted to return home I don't think she'd have let me. She's pretty protective about what she deems hers. Oddly enough, just this week she's decided that a sleep hut hanging from the ceiling is now her preferred nighttime spot so my cage is again up for rent. We McFlocksters, we like the game of Musical Cages.
Trust all is well with you and yours. I'll be curious to hear how it goes with the fancy red bird that's now next to you. She could give a grey a complex, all that crimson to show off, and us, with only our meager tail feathers to show for color. No worries, Pascal- you know you're a looker no matter what! And then there's the grey matter on your shoulders... that trumps it all!!
Later, Neighbor Guy. K *v*

  Hello, Pascal~
It's been far too long since I stopped by for a chat with you. Mercy, where does time fly to? Obviously it has better-working wings than I do. Mine were trimmed back in the summer so that I wouldn't manage an accidental exit from the parrot pen. They're slow growing in, if you ask me. I'm pretty much indoors all the time now so I'm ready for these wings to work again.
I wonder what's new at your place. I do know there's a splash of red and purple that didn't use to be there. Jen's dad shared the happy news that an Ekkie joined your flock following the Bird Fair. I'll bet she's beautiful, what with those gorgeous colors. Something tells me though that you're still Top Bird on the family totem pole. How could you not be; you're a Grey!! My mom was so very disappointed to have missed out on the bird fair this year. She'd been looking forward to it since last year's event but circumstances evolved that required her to be right here at home. Even without attending, we managed to add a new flockmate ourselves; maybe your mom met the little Jenday that was there as an adoption hopeful. Seems he got tired of being introduced to so many different people and took to pinching a bit... a behavior that doesn't do much for winning over the hearts of potential new parronts. Or maybe it's just that Mr. Dallas whispered in his ear that he knew just the place where a Jenday would fit right in and the little guy was making sure he didn't go home with somebody else. "Jensen" as he's now called, as adapted quickly and is welcomed member to the flock. As I type, he's sound asleep in the back corner of Alfie's cage... why he picked to sleep with the DYH amazon, I've no idea but Alfie doesn't seem to mind the company. I wonder if your Ekkie-Girl will have a page of her own someday. Even if there weren't much time for her to write, we'd all love to be able to see photos of her. Plans are in the making for the three conures that have been adopted from the QCPS to have their own pages even though there's little time for writing these days. Mom just wanted a place to show off the darling photos those three happily pose for.
Here's hoping you're lovin' life to the fullest. Your friend, K *v*

Kelly here! Say, how are you, Handsome Guy? Keeping that flock in order there still, I'm sure. What'd you think of all the rain we got over the weekend? It rained bucketfuls here. The ditches were so full I could've floated a fishing boat in them. Had all this moisture come down in the form of snow, the house would've been buried, I'm sure of it. Say, with summer coming my wings have been trimmed so should the chance to attend a bird club meeting arise, there's no excuse for why I can't go this next time. I might actually get to meet you! I do have to confess that my wings have been trimmed not because spring is coming and time for the aviary is nearing; I got chopped because I couldn't resist the urge to fly off in whatever direction I wanted if I was being carried in a direction I didn't want. Moms; what spoil sports. Now that I'm dependent on the taxi services of mom's hand I find I actually get to go more places than when I'm fully flighted, including the Quad Cities, hopefully. A couple of times I missed out on a trip just because it was too darn cold for a parrot to go out on the town. Shot, I think it was too cold for a human on one occasion. I'm sorry I missed the last meeting; mom was away on her skiing vacation. Did you get to attend? I've been told that you're as sweet in the feather as you appear in your pictures. Mom told me she enjoyed perching with you at the last meeting she was at. I wish I was as polite, friendly and congenial as you. Maybe as time passes and I attend more of these get togethers, I too will come to be willing to socialize with any hand offered to me in friendship. When I visit Jen and Christy's house, I step up for Chuck rather nicely. I can tell mom's always holding her breath tho when I'm offered a hand. What, doesn't she trust me? She's probably wise not to!! Here's hoping the hand that you love so much has been near you through out much of this past weekend. Kisses from K *v*

Happy New Year to You, Pascal!
Hey, no need to apologize for your time away from the BC. You've got a busy mom and I know you're swamped with keeping track of your flockmates. Good to hear from you though. Yes, those big prizes; back in September a group of friends got this wild idea that they'd like to see me as bird of the week so they asked their friends to help pile the votes up on my page. Crazy times! That same circle of friends recently did the same thing for Jenny. It's been a hoot listening to her dad complain about all the hard work he had to do to keep up with Jenny's hundreds of notes. As for the rumor that there's a new bird at my house—it's true. A DYH Amazon has joined the flock. He's just what mom says she was hoping to find; a young bird in need of a new home. Alfie's mom was spending so much time in the hospital due to an illness she knew he wasn't getting the care and attention she wanted him to have so she decided a new home would be better for him. I thought I would be very jealous of a new bird but Alfie's such a neat guy I can't help but like him. We hang out together a lot. He's taught me how to play with foot toys, untie knots, take apart little puzzle toys. I never had any interest in stuff like that before Alife showed me what fun could be found in holding a toy in your foot. Together he and I are both learning to eat fresh foods too. Life is good! Hope it's equally interesting at your place. Looking forward to your getting back in the groove here, as you called it. Always did enjoy your notes, Pascal. Take care! K *v*

Kelly here! Wow... how dreadful that it's been so long since I've flown by your page. I'm ashamed of myself. I've spent most of today flying all over the BC broadcasting our mutual friend Jennifer Lynn, as her name's been tossed into the competition for botw. If you happen to see your mom at or near the computer this week, beg her to take you by Jen's page so you can pound on the girl's vote button. You wanna give her Dad something to do, leave a brief note. Jen's making sure she responds to everyone that's left! We're gonna have her dad's fingers worn down to the bone by the end of all this.   Off Kilter
I can sympathize with you there just a bit, Pascal, with that Off-Kilter feel, but only during the last weekend, not an entire month like you've had to endure. My mom tended to these two miniature humans off and on during the Labor Day Weekend which meant I had to stay in my room and feel neglected while she kissed and carried on about some strange kids. Everything about the weekend seemed all wrong 'cause the schedule was just totally ... off kilter! Tell me, did the toy your mom made at the last QCPS meeting get presented to YOU? Bet if it did it's long since been dismantled by that handsome beak. Do believe my mom's gonna be at the Bird Fair. I hear there are lots of things she could buy for me so I'm countin' on something exciting to come home with her and it better not have wings and feathers. You're not going with your mom, are you? I can just see us there, saying "I want that! I want that too! Ooooo, I've just got to have that." We could act like a two-year old in the cereal isle of the grocery store and pitch a royal fit if our parronts show any signs of resistance at loading up the cart with toys! Could be fun. So nice to get to chat with you. Hope things smooth out and get into a comfortable routine now that school has got the hard part over; starting. Leaving you with a vote and a hug... K *v*

Kelly here. How's the summer season been treating you? Survivable? Are you starting to see a change in activities what with a new school year about to start? Your mom doesn't teach during the summer does she? I mean, a grey needs his summer break with him mom as much as the next kid! It's been an unbelievable season here, all things considered; there just haven't been that many days that were beastly hot and humid. I know now, having utter those words, it's likely to change, but even if it did, well, look how many really nice days we had when it could've been miserable instead. Say, when the next QCPS meeting?   Hey Pascal
Have you ever tried bean sprouts? They're very good. Actually, I only like the bean part, the rest I toss to the dog (like all the other foods I don't like). My mom never leaves stuff on top of my cage, cause she knows that by the time she gets it back it'll be shredded! Once she made the mistake of putting a picture too close to my cage on the TV cabinet, by the time she got it back it had huge rips and tears and holes in it. The same goes for the cookbooks on the shelf near my cage. They're just so tasty. No, Rebecca and I don't get along very well. You might already know this, but Rebecca likes to chew (human and bird) toes, particularly MY toes! *OUCH!* Whenever we come upon each other accidentaly and fight, the first thing his beak hits is my sensitive toes. Didn't you mention that you too have a fibling who likes to chew toes???? V4U -Abercrombie-

Haven't I Been the Poopy Friend!
I can't believe it's been, like, forever since I've been by your page. Where are my manners? Flew the coop, obviously!! Trust all is well with you and those you share a perch with. I see you're friends with that precious Jenny Lynn and Christy and their most adorable Dad. Aren't they just the bestest! You've got to love their Dad for his adoration of those of us with Grey feathers. Talk about a fanclub, that man's it! And then of course there's our moms... they have a thing about us cute little grey birds too, huh. Lucky us!! So, do tell, what's your summer been like so far? I fear you've had far more scary stormy weather than I've had to endure here. I've recently moved into the front bedroom that has been called the Bird Room for years, despite the fact there was a teenager living in it. Mom has seen its potential on our behalf for ages... she just had to bide her time till she could move us in. All the light that comes in the big bay window was never enjoyed by the child who preferred the curtains shut at all hours of the day. Yes, those windows are wonderful except for stormy nights when the lightning is constantly flashing!! See, those dusty curtains came down and now the room's bright ALL the time! Think she'll be making some to go back up, something 'bird themed' I hope... something to block the strobe-light-effect of a summer thunderstorm! I keep pestering my mom about coming to one of the QCPS meetings. That bird fair thing sounds fun too but something tells me that's not something I'd get to go to. I've got my travel cage ready to go should she up and decide to take me tho! Cheers to you and yours! K *v*

Come visit me, Kelly.

  Hi Pascal
Abercrombie here. You're Mom's probably right--the macaw's probably is interested in the Amazon b/c of the screaming/noise potential. It was the same way with JoJo and I. JoJo was very curious about me when I first arrived at my new home. She seemed upset that there was another bird who might (and has) beat her in a screaming contest. Mom's heard of the Mexican Redhead, but most sources called it the Green-Cheek Amazon. For awhile she got mixed up and thought that another name for a Red-Lored Amazon is the Green-Cheek Amazon! I don't think you'd be able to tell the difference from me and a Mexican Redhead from afar. But you'd just have to pay close attention to the details: my attitude, personality, and of course, my love for food. The human family is leaving for a trip and the birds will stay at the bird store. We should be back on BC on 7/28/08. We'll miss all our birdie friends! V4U & Big Birdie Hugs -Abercrombie-

Pascal! Kelly here! Long time no chatter. I'm sorry about that. Life, it needs to learn some manners and not interrupt so much. I'm here to wish you and the whole flock a fantastic Freedom Celebration Day. Hope your day is a blast from beginning to end as you party in honor of life, liberty, and happiness. Happy 4th of July! Come visit me, Kelly.

  Hi from Abercrombie
Lately, I've been really loud (think of earsplitting screams) AND annoying. People are running around everywhere getting ready for tomorrow, the 4th of July. I rarely get to perch on Mom's shoulder because 1) I also nibble on Mom, mostly her ears and neck, and 2) I tend to make really big poops when I'm on her, and you definitely don't want one of those down your back! It's always nice to have another birdie to talk to. I talk to my fibling JoJo a lot (well, we don't really talk, we mostly scream at each other). Hmmm....a Mexican redhead....don't think I've ever heard of that species of Amazon before. I'll get Mom to look it up later. Well my friend I've been on the computer way too long and Rebecca's pestering me to get off so she can go on BC too. What a pest, can't a guy have a few moments of peace? V4U -Abercrombie-

  Hi Pascal!
How are you doing? I was really loud today. I've already shredded most of my toys and I want new ones, but Mom says she just bought some last week! Don't blame me, it's my beak that can't resist chewing toys to shreds. So, how are the GCC and Amazon doing? V4U -Abercrombie-

  Hi Pascal
The human family was going to go on a trip but it got cancelled. I think my fibling JoJo is very happy about it b/c she won't be seperated from her Dad. The weather is getting hotter and hotter here. Just about a week ago there were lots of thunderstorms and flooding. V4U & Big Birdie Hugs -Abercrombie- PS: How are the Red-Lored and GCC?
