"I was caught in the wild about 22 yrs ago, and my first owner was an older man who had me for 20 yrs. I became very depressed when he died, and was inherited by his children who didn't want me. They kept me in a dark closet for 3 months and I plucked out most of my feathers. Then I was passed on to a woman who thought she wanted me, but decided I was too much work, so she left me outside in the cold Michigan weather and ignored me. One of her co-workers saw me and took me home with her. She and her husband had me for a year and they treated me as best they knew how. A lot of my feathers grew back, but they had to work long hours and didn't have enough time to spend with me. They felt bad, so they filled up my cage with so many toys that I could hardly move around or be seen. They finally decided I need a family who can give me more attention, so they ran an ad in the paper. My new family got me 1 week ago. They are the 5th owners I've had in 2 yrs, but they love me and have told me this is my forever home now. I'm really coming out of my shell, and beginning to feel comfortable. I even talked for the first time in 2 yrs since my original owner died, and I've been saying, "Good bird!". Awards

  What a wonderful story
I also had a Blue Crowned Conure. She also came from a bad situation. It took us a year of feather picking, screaming and many bite wounds, but it was so worth it. She was the sweetest bird I have ever had the privilege to have with me. Please don't give up on him. You will be rewarded with a sweet bird. I miss my Peya so much.
She died a year ago, and even though my other birds are just a sweet, there will always be a special place in my heart for her. Congrats on your new feather friend.

Come visit me, Georgie.

Hi everyone! I'm doing great in my new home. I love the kids here and they taught me to bounce up and down and sing the tune to "The Addams Family" theme song. It makes everyone laugh, and then I laugh too! I love to sit on a perch outside of my cage, and I'm comfortable now taking food out of my family's hands. I've let them briefly touch the top of my head several times now, but still don't allow any scritches. Maybe someday. I love my friend, Cubby, the parakeet. His cage is right next to mine, and I like to climb on the outside of my cage and visit with him. I like to listen to him chatter and I don't hardly scream anymore. OK, maybe I let out a scream here or there a couple times a day - just to let everyone know I'm here and I'm happy!

Come visit me, P.J. & Tiger.

  Hey Tiger!
Just your ole friend Carley here stopping in to see how you're doin? Your story was so touching, mom likes to check back. Would love to get an update on ya and hopefully you're doing fantabulously! How's your little keet friend? Mom says I've been talking the other birds to death while she's at work. Jamie is actually trying to say Peak-a-Boo like me now. I try to get her to play the games with me, but she still doesn't like me much. She's still very jealous when mom pays any attention to me. Maybe some day. At least she doesn't try to dive bomb my head everytime we're both out of the cage anymore! LOL! Carley

  Keep your head up :-)
Left out in the cold? How dare she....So sad your story, alot of people get a bird and say this is going to be easy, a cage some toys and were all set. NO! Passed you around like an unwanted rag doll..terrible..You new parents are awesome, to take you in..CONGRATS!

Come visit me, Skeeter & Jaden.

Hi everyone! I've been with my new family for almost a month now and am doing very well. I'm learning to eat pellets and some fruits and vegetables instead of sunflower seeds all the time. They got me a new cage, too!! It's HUGE!!!! It's brand new and has no rust or peeling paint like my old one did. It's also got a playgym on top! I've never had one of those, so I'm enjoying lots of play time. My new mom just discovered that I love the song, "Itsy Bitsy Spider." I dance and get all excited when she sings it! She also took in a 3 mo old baby parakeet, and I enjoy having his cage near mine. It's fun to watch him jump around in his cage, and I like having his company when my family can't be there. Thanks for all your comments and votes!

Come visit me, P.J. & Tiger.

What an ordeal you've been through and what a life! Obviously your forever home now has the right approach, to learn as much as they can to help you be as healthy and happy as you can be in captivity. It sounds like you loved the man who was your daddy for 20 years too. I'm imagining when you are ready and you come out of your shell some more, you'll be saying a whole lot more than good bird. ;P If you'd like to talk to another BCC owner, feel free to email me at Carley is the light of our lives and I'm sure Tiger will be yours too... sounds like he's on his way already. All the VERY best to you Tiger! Carley and the gang

  Hi Tiger
I am glad that you are enjoying your new home. My sister is a rescue too and went through many homes before my mom told her this was her last one. Your feathers have grown back nicely. My favorite place to be is cuddled up under my coconut. I don't like to cuddle with my mom or dad but I love them to hold me! I hope you come and visit me. Heres a vote for you!

Come visit me, Chicki & Claire.

Geez, Tiger, We can't imagine anything worse that a wild caught bird, and then to have your life turned upside down so late in life. We must give a high five to your new forever owners, saving one bird at a time! So lucky for you! Cayo & Pippin ps Our mom's suggestion, READ all you can and trust your better judgement, ie: if it works, don't fix it!

I hope you love your once abandoned blue crowned as much as I love mine. Mine sorta went through the same thing, minus the older owner and the feather plucking. I am supposedly her 4th home, and I'm not too sure I believe the woman who had her 2nd. Plus I don't know where she is from, and don't have an age on her. But I have come to realize that BlueCrowns are much smarter than we think they are, and can sometimes really be anti social. I love her all the same though! Enjoy your birdy. Glad you found a great home!

Come visit me, Peas (Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure), Skittles, Kiwi & Olive.

Hi Tiger! I am a bird lover, but just don't have one right now. I know you'll be happy with your new family. They may even let you go horseback riding some time! That would be fun. Enjoy, and if they ever go on a vacation and you need to find a place to stay for a short time, be sure and call me! You are always welcome!
