I work for 911. We dispatch for Animal control, in addition to police and fire. Our Animal control lady came accross an elderly gentelman whose wife died 2 months ago. He couldnt take care of the bird, as well as several cats. Since I have 2 other birds, she thought I could find a home for or take care of her. The cage was in horrible condition, and She was only being fed Wild Bird sunflower seeds. Needless to say the bird is very mal-nourished. She also has a bad leg. Sticks up in the air when on the pearch, but looks normal when hanging on the side of the cage. She was missing 4 toenails as well. Took her to the vet, he advised it wasnt broken, but nothing he could do right now. Maybee when she gets fattend up and a little healthier, he could fix it. She gets around fine. Ive only had her 2 weeks, but she is really coming around. REALLY loves her new sand perch and rope perch. Needless to say, She is not going to get another home, I'm adding her to my flock. Besides, we need some Female influence amongst me and the 2 feathered boys.

UPDATE. I still am with my rescuer. He just cant give me up now. I have him wrapped around my claw. Im a full figured gal now. I love my new home.

  Nice to meet you!
Sorry to hear how things started, but at least they are better now! Always nice to see another GCC, arn't they the best! Great personalities. As far as your question on the step-up, I don't have any experience, but there are several great conure groups on Yahoo groups trying joining one and asking. I have found them to be a great source of all sorts of things!

Come visit me, Jammer, Bugs - RIP 12/24/08 & Sunny.

  Hey Gracie
You are a very pretty bird. You remind me of my own Yellow-Sided Green Cheeked Conure mutation. Her name was Jolie, and she was a perfect bird. She was born on April 25, 2006. She died on October 27, 2007 of unknown causes. She was a great bird, and now she is watching over me. I hope that Gracie gets better. She looks very happy in her picture. I bet she loves her new home and healthier food. I couldn't imagine just eating sunflower seeds. Thanks for the blog you left me! C U later! :> birdy face!!!

Gracie is rally coming on strong. she comes to the cage door now doesnt come out, but she bows her head and basiclly Demands to have her head scratched. Also she loves carrots and raisons. She eats them 1 st and then the seeds, not eating pellets yet, although they are mixed in. I do belive she is happy now.

  Hello from Pippin
Hey there Gracie welcome to the channel. It's always great to meet another GCC. I'm so sorry to hear about your rough start in life. It's no wonder you don't like fingers, I wouldn't either. But I will say you should give your new owner a chance. Head scritches are the best. Moms been clicker training me if you want you can check out the video at http://youtube.com/watch?v=lIPCH6SVCJY You have to turn the volume up a bit to hear it. I love the clicker, everytime it clicks I get a treat! Maybe that would help you. Let me know if it's something you might want to try, it can work really well for birds that arent to fond of people yet. But don't worry my adopted big brother took two months before he would let mom touch him. It took him that long to really start to feel comfortable in his new forever home. Here is a vote, us green cheeks need to stick together ; )

  Hello Gracie,
You are lucky to of found someone to give you a forever home and everything you need to go along with it. I have a Senegal that someone found at their back yard bird feeder. She had an infected leg that had to be amputated. She is a very sweet bird. She learned on her own to get around with her beak and one leg. She does step up but I don't give her a finger to step up on I cup my hand and she just scoots on. I wish I had more advice for you. My Senegal's name is Jack if you want to visit her page, I didn't know she was a girl when I named her. I also have a Green Cheek conure "Kiwi" they are a lot of fun. Lots of attitude in a little bird. Gotta love them. Good luck to you. Here's a vote from all my guys.

Come visit me, Kiwi, Greenlee, Jolea Renee (formerly Brutus), Sundance R.I.P. Sweetheart, Popeye RIP my sweet baby girl...... & Jack.

  Hi Gracie
You pretty girl! Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery! You'll come out of your cage when you're ready, it took prinsy months close to 6mon! to come out of the cage and onto the gym, she had bubbles calling for her! She won't step up, and don't like hands! But mom's alright with that, she knows she's been through alot! Come visit us soon :)

Come visit me, Cinnamin Baby, Bubbles, Tweety Bird, Prinsy & Mr & Missy bird.

  Training suggestions
If anyone has ideas on how to train a One-legged bird to "step up" or atleast come out of the cage without toweling the bird. I am open for ideas.

Come visit me, Claude---Pretty bird, Gracie--the green-cheek & Randal.
