I worked as an RVT for an avian and exotics vet where our practice boarded birds for their owners. One of our clients brought in a large and vicious african grey her son had caught for her in a net. He warned the staff not to touch the bird because he would remove a finger. He had been confined to his cage for 10 years due to his biting beak. The man said he would be boarding for six weeks. The kennel boy carried him to the back and carefully released him into a cage. I was intrigued by this bird that couldn't be touched and I wanted to see if I was up to the challenge. I would go in the back everyday at lunch time and sit by his cage to eat my lunch. I offered him food through the bars, he wouldn't take it from me, but he would eventually eat it if I let it drop. After about a week, I grabbed him out of his cage with a towel and took him into an exam room where I set him in the middle of the floor waiting to see what he would do. He came to me and I picked him up. I was able to teach him the "step-up" routine. We worked together everyday at lunch and even after the office was closed. When the owner came to pick him up. I brought him out on my hand to her. She was so amazed by him sitting on my hand that she asked me if I would like to take him off her hands. He moved in with me the following week and we have been together for 4 years now. We make a happy couple..

Active within 1117 Days Hi! My name is Zaire I am a Congo African Grey from Provo, UT. Big Bird 22 years old M Congo African Grey Lafeber's tropical seed balls The outdoor aviary on the highest perch. Sometimes I will sneak into the tray of my cage to search for discarded snacks. I wish Spring would hurry up and get here so I can go outside again. Loud people around my cage late at night. I start yelling "Get out of here!" I get kind of mean about it. I like to get a kiss if you pick me up. I think I deserve a treat if I've had a rough moment.. Fat birds can be sexy too..

Hello from Ollie Hey there Zaire, I am so happy that you found someone who understands you. I can't imagine not being able to come out of my cage everyday. My mom was warned that I was a bitter too. So far I've only nipped her on two seperate occasions, and she doesn't hold it against me. It was during my first week with her and she had to move me...but I didn't want to go so...well you know. Anyway now three months later I love to be on her hand more than my playstand. And I demand a head scrat almost everyday (my last owner told her I wasn't a fan of being touched...) It's so wonderful when we find our matches. I'm off to give you a vote, stop by and visit me anytime. Hi from Buddy and Lil Bird Buddy is a Grey and Lil Bird is A Green Cheeked Conure. We have been living here about 6 months and we are settled in. Our Mom loves BC because it helps her learn more about us..she tries to keep us happy and well fed. Buddy loves to talk and make all sorts of noises and Lil Bird likes to sit on your head and pick your eye lashes..he is saying step up and tries to say other words. You are a very pretty bird as well. I just love the red tail! I wish I had a red tail! i like to preen my Dad's hair too. Itisn;t long enough to do much with it, but it is still fun! My family is getting ready to move to a new home on Saturday so things are pretty busy around here. I just hope I don't get stuffed into a box! I would really have to holler loud then! You and Zaire are a lucky pair. Your story is an inspiration. It proves how adaptable parrots are and how quickly they will respond to love and patience. I am a Blue Front Amazon from GEorgia. I picked my feathers when I found my Forever Home with Dad but I am now a happy beautiful bird! (At least that is what he says!) Have a great day!
