The postman asked me to take care of his 2 birds over the long weekend at the beginning of September. When he and his wife came back to pick up the birds Monday evening, he saw how well TiPaul was getting along and decided he would do better with us. He is a great bird, but we are still getting to know each other. ***UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 6th *** Just over 2 weeks ago, TiPaul decided to jump off his cage again, but this time he was not so lucky. Having less feathers than the average CAG since he breaks them off, and having virtually no tail, his balance is way off. His chest area opened, where he had fallen in the past while with his second owner, who let him heal naturally. I took him to the vet, where he had to be put under and stitched up properly. He was also put on antibiotics for 2 weeks. Well, within of a few days, I thought I had a new bird in the home. He started talking, his firts words being *hello, I love you*, he started clicking like my other CAGs, and he started playing, shredding a cardboard box, and just being a fantastic bird. He has never bitten my partner nor me, and he plays well with Pepper, my other male CAG. Yesterday was 2 weeks from his surgery and we went back to the vet. He is doing great - he has healed perfectly - the stitches will fall out on their own. It seems he did this once before with the first owner too, but was hospitalized and taken care of. You cannot begin to realize how happy I am that he found us and his permanent home.

Hi! My name is TiPaul -Thanks you all for BOTD!

I am a Congo African Grey from Entrelacs, QC.

nope

15 years old   M

Congo African Grey

We're still working on that one. UPDATE: He is taking food from my hands and loves almonds, peanuts and nutriberries along with fresh fruits and veggies.

On top of his cage, walking the floors and on my shoulder

He is still not settled in completely, as he only came to live with us 2 weeks ago. UPDATE: He is acting like a CAG - loves shredding apart his cardboard boxes

She is patient with me and lets me go about fitting in with the other parrots at my own pace. She also insisted that my old cage be delivered here, because I am used to it. UPDATE: It has been 3 months since I have come to live here, and I am so happy - I know what a real flock is all about.

Feather picking and biting his nails.

If it's cardboard, and it's a box, let me at it..

  Hi TiPaul!
Hi Everybirdie! Tonight we will be making a shreddable toy that looks like a person. You will need,

- A wiffle ball
- Cupcake papers
- Beads
- 2 bigger wood beads
- Mini wood blocks
- Paper straws
- A treat cup
- 3 paper loaf cups
- Safe stringing material

Start by taking a pretty long piece of string, and tying a loop at the top. String on a bead, and then take 5-6 cupcake papers and cut the sides into strips, and then string those on like you would for a puff, one facing down, one facing up, and so on. Now string on the wiffle ball, and then a longer or bigger bead. Now you are going to take a new piece of string, and tie it onto your first piece under the big bead you just added. Once you tie that on, you should have two pieces hanging down on either side of the original piece. On both strands, you are going to string on a mini block, and then half of a paper straw. Then knot the ends on both sides. Now going back to the original string, take a treat cup and poke a hole in the bottom, then string it on facing down. Now take your 3 loaf cups, and poke holes in the bottom of them. String one on facing down, then string on a bead, then another loaf cup, then another bead, then the last loaf cup. Now string on 2-3 beads, and then take another new piece of string and tie it on the original, just like last time. You will want the two pieces hanging down so that they are longer. On each strand, string on a single big bead, and then knot the bottoms. Now string one more bead on the original strand, and knot the bottom. You're done!

Mom just adores this toy, she says it is one of her favorites that she has made. There is a picture in my gallery!

Thank you so much for voting for me! Just one more night until I will hopefully be in the castle! I'll see you tomorrow night. (:

  Thursday Flitzer
Hello. cool morning in Buffalo.

--
Dad busy cleaning, moving things, and getting things changed so men can measure front windows for much-needed replacement. The windows don't open and it gets oppressively hot here in the Summertime.
--
Those Quadruple-Berry Muffins were wonderful the other day. Dad knows how to make me happy from beak to tail.
= = =
I was very good for Aunt Maria on grooming day. I did flit across the room for a moment and landed in a plant [yeah - they laughed at me], but after that, I was still and patient for the grooming.

Make it a wonderful day

  Hi TiPaul!
Hi Everybirdie! I am so sorry for not blogging yesterday. Mom had a very bad headache and couldn't keep her eyes open. But, I am happy to report that when she woke up this morning she felt just fine! To make up for not blogging last night, we will be making two toys tonight. For the first toy you will need,

- Cupcake papers (for small/medium birds) or mini cupcake papers (for extra small birds) or coffee filters (for large birds)
- Beads
- Safe stringing material

Take your string and tie a knot at the bottom. String on a bead, and take 3-4 cupcake papers or coffee filters, poke holes in the center, and string them on. String on another bead, and then more papers. Keep stringing on the beads and papers until it reaches your desired size. Then finish off by stringing a bead on top, and tying a loop.

For the next toy you will need,

- Wood (what ever size and type is right for your bird)
- Beads
- Safe stringing material
- OPTIONAL: a bell

Take your string and tie a knot at the bottom. If you are using a bell, tie the knot on the bell. String on a piece of wood, then a bead, then another piece of wood, then another bead, and so on until it reaches the desired size. Finished it off by adding a bead to the top and tying a loop.

Both of these are very simple, but fun to play with! The wooden toy was made for Paris using balsa, and the cupcake paper toy will be for one of the conures. There are pictures of both toys in my gallery. (Mom apologizes for the hideous colors of the cupcake paper toy. She had no pretty colors!)

Thank you so much for voting for me!

Hugs,

Hope you had a great weekend. Nice here -Dad was busy in and out, but we got some time together. Cool mornings but warm afternoons here. Dad never knows which jacket to grab.

  Hi TiPaul!
Hi Everybirdie! Tonight's toy isn't pretty, and very simple, but so much fun to shred! You will need,

- 3 paper bags
- Crinkle paper OR tissue paper
- Safe stringing material
- Treats

Take your first paper bag and open it. Take another paper bag, and without opening it, put it in the first one. When it is in, you can stick your hand in and open it up. When that one is opened, take one more closed one and stick it inside the others, and then open that one too. Stuff the bags with crinkle paper or tissue paper, and throw a treat or two in it. Close the bags, and fold over the tops. Take a piece of rope, make a loop, and then make a hole near the top of the bag (that goes through the front and folded over part), and string the loop through the hole.

I know this toy isn't the prettiest or most amazing, but Jester and I just love them! And they are so easy to make, and mom uses the hanging loops over and over again. LOL. Picture in my gallery!

Thanks for voting for me!

Hugs,

  Saturday Flitzer
Hello.
A nice week here in Buffalo - warmer, with a little rain. Now it's going to be cooler, but not too bad.
--
Dad is making preparations for his May trip to see Grandma in Kentucky. He will be there for Mother's Day and on Derby Day as well. [I'm suggesting a flowered hat, but he doesn't like the idea].
When Grandma calls on Sunday I call to her, sometimes making their conversation hard to hear.
"I'm here, Grandma, it's me, Flitzer". She often wonders how Dad can live with me. Ha-Ha.
--
Aunt Kathy, the bird-sitter will be checking in on me, while Dad is away.
Last time, we were both miserable to each other. Dad is asking me to PLEASE TRY and be good. We shall see...

  Hi TiPaul!
Hi Everybirdie! Tonight we are going to make little balls made out of toilet paper or paper towel rolls. You will need,

- A toilet paper or paper towel roll
- A treat

Take your roll, and cut four rings off of it. The rings can be what ever thickness you'd like, but we tend to cut ours a bit on the thick side. Start by taking two of the rings and sticking one inside of the other, so that it forms an X. Take a third ring, and slip it over the other two. Now you should add a treat. Finally, take the fourth ring and slip that over the others, and you're done!

These are super fun the play with. I love them! There is a picture in my gallery.

Thanks for voting for me!

  Hi TiPaul!
Hi Everybirdie! Tonight we are going to make a cute cupcake paper toy. It is pretty small, but super cute! You will need,

- 1 mini bagel
- Mini cupcake papers (we haven't tried it with regular sized cupcake papers, but if you want to try it so that it is slightly bigger, I'd say go for it!)
- Beads
- Safe stringing material
- A small chain (optional)

Take the mini bagel and a piece of string, and tie the piece of string on to the bagel. After you tie it on, you should have two pieces of string hanging down. String a bead on to one of the pieces of string, then take a few cupcake papers and string them on. Then another bead, then more cupcake papers. Do this until you reach your desired amount, and then tie a knot on the end. Repeat on the other side. To make it so that you can hang it, you can either take a short piece of chain and put it on the bagel and join the two ends with a quick link, or you can tie on a loop with you stringing material.

Mom hasn't made this toy in awhile, but she has made them for our previous budgies. We will see if Perry likes it. :) Picture in my gallery!

Thanks for voting for me!

Hi Everybirdie! Tonight we are making a cup holder shredder toy. You will need,

- A paper cup holder
- Paper treat cups
- Coffee filters
- A small paper plate
- Cupcake papers
- Finger traps
- A bead
- Safe string material

Take your cup holder, and start by putting a coffee filter in each one of the cup compartments. Next take you treat cups, and push one of those into each compartment (you may have to force them in to fit). Then stick a coffee filter in each one of the treat cups. Next, poke a hole in the middle of the cup holder, take a piece of string and knot it at the end, and stick it through the hole you made (so that the knot is on the bottom, and the string is sticking out the top part). On that string, string on your paper plate, a few coffee filters, a few cupcake papers, three finger traps, and a bead, then knot it. Near the top of the cup holder, poke a hole, then make a loop with your string, and thread the loop through that hole.

Mom makes these for me all the time. I LOVE them! There is a picture in my gallery! (:

  Hello TiPaul~
I hope you are having a great day! It's only 80 here today so that is tolerable! There is a nice breeze and mom has the window open so I'm enjoying that. My cage was all cleaned out again this morning so I've been working on redecorating.
McKenzie had an upset tummy this morning. Ian bought her a rawhide bone at Petco yesterday and it did not agree with her. Mom will stick with the Dingo bones since they have never upset her tummy. Petco only had the tiny Dingo bones so mom will pick up the more appropriate sized ones at her work. She is feeling fine now and wants to eat everything in sight! Just like normal!hehehehehe
We have been doing chores most of the day. Mom washed the winter jackets and is going to hang them in the hall closet. She got the stove scrubbed and wants to get some things done in her bedroom later. She will have to wait for Jennifer to get home so that she can occupy McKenzie while mom and I go in the bedroom. If McKenzie is in the bedroom you have to watch her all the time because she likes to grab books and try to chew them up! That is a huge NO NO in this house! I don't get to do it so she can't either!
Can't believe you still have snow!!! Our studded tires need to be off by April 1st but here really was no need for them this winter unless you live up in the mountains!
I hope the day is just wonderful! Hope you all enjoy the ropes! Sounds like a really good idea!
Leaving a vote and a big hug!
Love you ~ Sugar ♥

  Hello TiPaul~
I hope you are having a wonderful day.
Mom is having one of those days where she can not get anything done! I blame it all on the dog!hehehehehe Mom says there is blame to share!
I have been throwing pieces of wood out to McKenzie and the dork tries to eat them!! Mom asked me to stop it but I don't think it's my fault if the dog is a dope!
When I got bored with that game I decided it was time to rip the paper up on the bottom of the cage. That always gets the puppy running!! I think she wants to rip paper up also. Mom finally had to put her on the leash to keep her away from my cage. Merlin started howling for food so mom filled up his dry food bowl. He took a few bites and then walked over and started whacking the dog. Guess he was jealous because McKenzie was paying attention to me! The turtles even got into it by pushing their filter over!! Mom said something about needing a vacation!hehehehehehe
Another beautiful day here. Suppose to be nice again tomorrow. I like having the window open and all the sunshine! I hope you have an awesome day! Leaving a vote and a big hug!

  Hello from Flitzer's Dad
Flitzer's Dad here with the tail [tale] of an (almost) lost bird
- - - - - - - - - - -
The house got quiet - and I couldn't locate Flitzer. I looked everywhere, calling his name.
No sound. No response
--
I know he had been in the video cabinet - as my DVD Sleeve for "THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA" was shredded all over the place.

He did not make any sounds when I called, nor when I rattled the DVDS.

After searching the rest of the house - I started taking out DVDs from the cabinet. For sure he was hiding back there. Keeping perfectly still.

Thank Goodness he's OK - Sometimes it's tough being a Dad!

I hope you had a great day. It was nice here. Mom and I did chores and laundry. We cleaned out a bunch of drawers in the bathroom. There was some old stuff there that we threw out and then checked our first aid kit to make sure it was filled up. Mom hates it when she needs a band aid and there are none left! Mom went to the market across the street to pick up some food for Merlin and return the movies from yesterday. After that she was home the rest of the day.
Enjoy the evening!!

I hope you are having a wonderful day! Very pretty up here again. We are suppose to be reaching 80 tomorrow. A bit early for that but it's only one day. The 70's are perfectly lovely and I think we should just have 70 year round!hehehehehe
I really enjoyed the new Star Wars. There was lots of stuff blowing up and you know that I love that. I think dad liked it too. Mom, Ian and Jennifer had already seen it at the movie theater but said there were things they missed the first time.
I have had a lovely afternoon hanging out with mom. I got to have her all to myself. McKenzie is gone for a spa day at the groomers. First time she has been there. She was putting on her cuteness when mom dropped her off and everyone fell in love with her. She really is a sweet puppy and is very nice to everyone she meets.
I got to run around the living room and that was lots of fun. I got picked up when I started to chew on the carpet! Go figure!
Dad and Ian have gone to pick up McKenzie. She just had a bath and they are going to file her nails also. She has very sharp nails.
The rest of the day will be spent doing the chores we should have done earlier!hahahahaha Playing was much more fun and the chores will still be there later.
Enjoy your day!

I hope you had a great day! It's very pretty up here. The wind is still blowing so it doesn't feel as warm as I'd like but it was still nice.
Mom had lots of cleaning to get caught up on so we did that most of today. Still have things we want to get done but it's our weekend so we have tomorrow also.
I'm an Auntie!! Moms sister canary hatched 3 chicks! There is still one egg to go and I've got my toes crossed the little guy show up soon! Moms sister is rather freaked out and has been doing a lot of reading up on canary babies! I think they'll be just fine.

  Hello TiPaul~
I hope you are having a wonderful Easter Sunday! McKenzie and I shared a blueberry muffin for breakfast and it was yummy. We don't really celebrate Easter around here since mom always has to work and Ian is still at work. Maybe we will do something when mom is off this week. She did get a couple of vegan chocolate bars and will share them with dad, Ian and Jennifer. I think the muffin was a much better idea!
Jennifer just got back from her sisters house. She went down on Friday for a birthday party for her brother in law. He and Ian share a birthday. They announced the sex of the new baby and Maddie is getting a little sister!! I think Maddie is very excited. I know I can't wait to meet her. They don't have a name picked out yet but I'm sure it will be great.
We talked to Uncle Chuck a while ago and he is doing okay. There is a complete update on from RaneBeau on the calendar page. Jenny and Lalo have gone over to visit with Aunt Denise and the flock which is just wonderful. I know Uncle Chuck feels much better knowing that they are safe and have lots of company.
Enjoy your day and I hope it's a very special Easter for everyone!

Hey TiPaul -

Cold Damp Rain Rain Rain today.
-
Dad is home this morning, and I'm Squawking Squawking Squawking to distract him from the computer-thingy and play with me.
= = =
Dad is having computer problems today and may only send a few Blogs if even that is possible.
= = =
Dad was wondering if ever other birdie does "Banana-Time" the way I do:
1. Bananas MUST be hand-fed.
2. Between each bite, I go into my "banana-dance" and Dad MUST follow my moves and prepare to feed me my next bite of banana. [Repeat dancing, then next bite]
3. Dad finds this both fun and exasperating. I love banana-time!

= = =
I’m still Squawking and wishing everyone a Happy Day.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! I hope you have a fabulous day!
It is sunny and pretty up here. We are starting out at 30 but will end up near 60. Spring!!
Mom got the filters for the vacuum dried out and put back in so I know she'll be using that evil machine today! McKenzie is shedding and it's awful! Mom has been brushing her but she thinks it's a game so it's slow going. There are still clumps of fur all over! Mom sweeps them up before she vacuums. She has to sweep up all the treats I threw out of the cage for the puppy too! I'm just doing my part with the puppy duty!

  Hello TiPaul~
I'm Here!! I hope you guys had a great day! We had some nasty storms last night and today. We lost power! It went out this morning but came back on after about 10 minutes. It kept flickering off and on and then it went off and stayed off for 3 and a half hours! We sat on the sofa and watched a movie on moms Kindle. Actually, mom fell asleep with Merlin on her lap and McKenzie on the right. I was on the left in my play cage. We all sort of took a nap! The power came back on just before mom left to pick up Ian.
Mom is off tonight so she can get some sleep. Starting next week her regular days off are switching to Tuesday night and Wednesday night. That way mom will always be there for the weekend ads they throw in a couple times a month. At least she gets two days off in a row. Saturday night she has to go in at 10 since the time change happens and they will lose an hour. Hate the time change!!!!

  Hello TiPaul~
I hope you are having a wonderful day! Glad to be able to blog again. I got kicked off on Saturday afternoon and couldn't get back on. The BOTD kept changing for Julio to Sherman and Peabody so I knew something was wrong. I kind of had a feeling that something was up since the BOTD has not been on BC for over 5 years. I suppose all websites have problems. At least I was able to vote for Laka both days even if I couldn't leave notes!
Nothing exciting going on here anyway so no one missed any news from me!
I'm really sorry the Milonga had to be rescheduled. I'm sure it will still be fabulous!
Enjoy the day and I hope it's just spectacular!

  Hi TiPaul,
Happy Friday!! :)

Today I'm going to tell you about the story of the "Grumpy Bird" by Jeremy Tankard.

When Bird woke up, he was grumpy. He was too grumpy to eat. He was too grumpy to play. In fact, he was too grumpy to fly. Looks like I'm walking today, said Bird. Bird walked past Sheep. Good morning Bird, said Sheep. What are you doing? Walking, said Bird. Nice, said Sheep. Ill keep you company. Bird walked past Rabbit. Hi there, Bird, said Rabbit. What are you doing? I'm walking said Bird. It's no fun. I could use some exercise said Rabbit. I'll walk too. Bird walked past Raccoon. Hey Bird said Raccoon. What are you doing? I'm walking, snapped Bird. What does it look like ? It looks like fun, said Raccoon. I'm coming too. Bird walked past Beaver. Hello Bird, said Beaver. What are you doing? Let me give you a hint, said Bird. You do it by placing one foot in front of the other. Walking? Guessed Beaver. I love waking. Bird walked past Fox. Good day Bird, said Fox. What are you doing? Why does everyone want to know what I'm doing!!! Shouted Bird. I'm just walking, okay? Okay said Fox. Let's go. Bird walked. The other animals walked. Bird stopped. The other animals stopped. Bird stood on one leg. The other animals stood on one leg. Bird jumped. The other animals jumped. Hey, this is fun! Said Bird. Come on said Bird, who had forgotten all about being grumpy. Let's fly back to my nest for a snack. And they did.

There's the cure-all for a bad mood. After all, don't you ever just feel grumpy? :)

Thank you every birdie for all the votes and continues support for my BOTM campaign run.

Here's a vote for you, hope you all have a great big birdie day!

Sending you all warm wing hugs and beaky kisses.

Love from Hawaii,

Laka Aolani, BOTM Candidate

  Hi TiPaul and flock,
When Hawaii celebrated its 50 years of Statehood in 2009, I thought it would be fun to sit down and write down the first 50 things that came to mind when I considered the things I like about Hawaii. Even now, more than 5 years later, these are still my favorites.
I decided not to include specific hotels or resorts since that would take up too much of the list. With that exception then, here, in no particular order, are 50 things I like about Hawaii.
Visiting Pearl Harbor and the USS Arizona Memorial; Taking a helicopter tour of Kauai with Jack Harter Helicopters; Whale watching with the Pacific Whale Foundation. Searching out Lost filming locations on Oahu with Kos Tours; Seeing the earth grow at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; The music of the late great IZ - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole.   Happy Thursday from Flitzer
Hello, TiPaul -

Dad was sick in bed all day, so we didn't get to make the rounds to visit friends on the BC.
He's much better today. I was good and quiet -letting Dad rest.

Very cold but quiet here in Buffalo after a couple days of lousy heavy-wet snow.
Hopefully we're done with that for a while.

Dad and Uncle Geno watched the movie "STEVE JOBS" which was very well made.

  Part 3
When is the best time to go to Hawaii?
Anytime is a great time to go to Hawaii. We’ve been to Hawaii several times in every season and enjoyed wonderful weather. For the best weather and prices, we recommend visiting Hawaii in mid/late April, May, early/mid June, September and October. We provide many more details with advice on when to visit Hawaii in this article: which time of year is best for visiting Hawaii.
Is Hawaii cold in the winter? We don’t think it’s cold. Look at the above weather charts which indicate that even in the coldest months, the average daytime high temperatures average between 78 and 82F, which is quite pleasant. You’d have to visit Hawaii during a particularly odd weather pattern to be cold in Hawaii. During winter months, you might want to have a light sweater to wear in the evenings, but during the daytime, you’ll most likely enjoy “bikini weather” while playing in the ocean.
Is Hawaii’s weather humid?

The degree to which a person feels humidity depends on the humidity of the climate where they live. For example, someone who lives in the humid southeastern United States probably won’t notice much humidity, while someone from an arid southwestern state may take more notice in the humidity. If the tradewinds are blowing, which they normally do, the breeze helps to keep you comfortable in the humid environment.
Do I need to be concerned about rain in Hawaii during the winter months?
As we’ve previously mentioned, the north and east sides of the island tend to get more rain than the south and west sides of the islands. If you plan to stay on the south and west sides of the islands, you’ll likely minimize your chances of experiencing rain. See our article on where to stay to avoid rain in Hawaii.
Is winter a good time to go to Hawaii?
Yes! See our article about visiting Hawaii in the winter.
Are the northern Hawaiian Islands colder than the southern Hawaiian Islands?
There’s perhaps just a few degrees difference between the extremes, but nothing drastic. If you flew from one island to the other, you probably wouldn’t notice a difference. Review the above temperature charts for Kauai, the northernmost Hawaiian Island, to the Big Island, the southernmost Hawaiian Island for comparison. Note that there’s very little difference.
What’s the water temperature in Hawaii? Can I swim in Hawaii in the colder winter months?
You can swim in the ocean in Hawaii throughout the year — even in winter months. The average ocean temperature for Honolulu is 78F and ranges from a low of 76F to 81F. See this link for more information.

Maui’s Weather
Choose the sunny South Coast near Wailea for a nearly guaranteed sunshine all year round. While, Lahaina Kaanapali and Kapalua in West Maui get a bit more rain as compared to South Maui, overall the area has relatively low rain levels and good amounts of beautiful Hawaiian sun.
The windward east side of Maui, including beautiful Hana, tend to have a more rain which creates those beautiful waterfalls and rainforests.
If you plan to venture to to the top of Maui’s inactive volcano, Haleakala, plan to bring a warm windproof jacket, hat and gloves as it can get cold – especially overnight during the night.
For more Maui weather details, read our Maui Weather Guide.

Kauai’s Weather
Princeville and Hanalei on the North Shore of Kauai brings a mixture of sunshine and showers needed to make all of the wonderful rainbows and waterfalls. The East and South shores are likely to offer more sunshine and less rainfall. For more Kauai weather details, read our Kauai Weather Guide.

The Big Island’s Weather
The Big Island of Hawaii offers the most diverse climates within the Hawaiian Islands. Climatologists have determined that the Big Island has 11 of the world’s 13 climate zones.
The Kohala and Kona coasts on the west of the Big Island are your best bets for plenty of sun and little rain. The Kohala Coast, in particular offers one of the sunniest resort spots in all of Hawaii.
In comparison to the dry Kona and Kohala coasts, Hilo on the East side tends to have significant amounts of rain year round. In fact, compared to all the other Hawaiian airports where weather data is collected, Hilo receives several more inches of rain on average.
If you visit the higher elevations, you want to be prepared for chillier temperatures. If you go into Waimea town in the evening, you’ll want to have a light sweater. If you go up to the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, you’ll want to wear long pants and a coat.
For more Big Island weather details, read our Hawaii (Big) Island Weather Guide.

Lanai’s Weather
The island of Lana’i has just a few areas where you’ll find lodging — in Lanai City and nearby Koele in the upcountry and Manele Bay down on the coast. The highlands or upcountry of Lanai enjoy a mild/cooler climate as compared to the warmer and sunnier Manele Bay. Please note that the above chart is based on the Lanai City in the higher elevation. To estimate weather in Manele Bay, add about 10 degrees Fahrenheit to Lanai City temperatures.

Molokai’s Weather
Molokai’s weather doesn’t vary quite as much as some of the other Hawaiian Islands. The north and east sides of the island are rainier than the south and west sides of the island.

When is the best time to go to Hawaii?

  Hi T-Paul and flock,
Aloha Po’ akolu (poh ah koll u) Happy Humpday!

Today we are going to hele around the islands to check out the temperatures and rain gauges on each island.

Temperatures

Hawaii’s weather is warm all year round with daytime high temperatures ranging from 78F in the “colder” months to 88F in the hotter months. Hawaii’s proximity to the equator means that its weather is tropically warm and consistent throughout the year. Typically December, January and February are the coolest months, while July, August and September are the warmest months.
Evening low temperatures range from 65F in the cooler months to 75F in the warmer months.
Rainfall: The months of April – October tend to have less rain than the months of November – March. The following chart shows how the average rainfall varies by month and by Hawaiian Island.

An interesting aspect about Hawaii rainfall is that most if the Hawaiian Island precipitation falls overnight. Even if a rain shower should interrupt your day, it rarely lasts more than a few minutes before the glorious sunshine breaks through again. You may even be treated to a rainbow afterwards. Micro-climates: Each Hawaii island boasts its own micro-climate depending on where you stay. The island weather is very much influenced by the trade winds which generate windward and leeward regions. In general, the north and east facing coasts tend to get more rain than the south and west-facing coasts. From the following satellite view of Hawaii, notice how the north and east sides are very green in comparison to the other sides. That’s an indicator of the rainfall levels.
The tall volcanic mountains of Hawaii are significantly colder than the beach elevations. With elevations over 13,000 feet above sea level, it’s not unusual for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island to get snow in the winter. At an elevation over 10,000 feet above sea level Haleakala on Maui can also get snow.

The southern side of Oahu, including Waikiki and Honolulu along with the southwest coast at Ko ‘Olina are your best bet for lots of Hawaiian sunshine. Though the North Shore also gets it’s fair share of sunshine. We wouldn’t hesitate to head to any part of Oahu any day of the year.
For more Oahu weather details, read our Oahu Weather Guide.
The upcoming Oahu forecast is as follows:

  Hello TiPaul~
I hope you are having a wonderful day! Kind of a quiet day around here. We have plans to get some chores done since mom is off.
Still got rain but it's been in the 50's for the past few days. Last night the crickets and frogs were out singing their little heads off! Maybe that groundhog was correct and spring will be here early. That would be nice. I think we could all use a bit of spring.
Enjoy the day and I do hope it's just perfect!
Leaving a vote and a big hug!

  Hi T-Paul,
Happy President's Day everyone! :)

Today the parronts are off and running around doing errands.

So I want to talk about how to train your Hooman. :)

It's a hard job for us birdies to do but it's gotta be done in order for parrot and hooman to live together in peace and harmony. :)

For example I'll use my Angel frother Pookie. He ate sticky rice like a pig! But when mom went to the mainland to visit our beloved grandmas pen pal we had to train dad.

Mom knew that she could get away with things but not dad. Pookie squawked till dad would hold the bowl of rice. And when dad got tired of holding the bowl he put it in Pookies cage and he wouldn't go down to eat it. He kept squawking till dad came back to hold the bowl of sticky rice up for him.

Now that's how to train your hooman. Just train and repeat till your hooman does what you want them to do.

Good luck and happy training your hoomans!!

Here's a vote for you my friend and I thank you for your votes and support during my campaign for BOTM run.

Love & warm hugs,

Laka Aolani, BOTM candidate
