News - I got a new home... well not realy. It's a new big cage like Pepper's but the top is like my old one. I can move around more in it and Mom put extra perches so I won't fall. I love it. Mom moved some other furniture to make room for it beside Pepper's cage, where I was before so it was not too much of a change for me.
The postman asked me to take care of his 2 birds over the long weekend at the beginning of September. When he and his wife came back to pick up the birds Monday evening, he saw how well TiPaul was getting along and decided he would do better with us. He is a great bird, but we are still getting to know each other. ***UPDATE AS OF NOVEMBER 6th *** Just over 2 weeks ago, TiPaul decided to jump off his cage again, but this time he was not so lucky. Having less feathers than the average CAG since he breaks them off, and having virtually no tail, his balance is way off. His chest area opened, where he had fallen in the past while with his second owner, who let him heal naturally. I took him to the vet, where he had to be put under and stitched up properly. He was also put on antibiotics for 2 weeks. Well, within of a few days, I thought I had a new bird in the home. He started talking, his firts words being *hello, I love you*, he started clicking like my other CAGs, and he started playing, shredding a cardboard box, and just being a fantastic bird. He has never bitten my partner nor me, and he plays well with Pepper, my other male CAG. Yesterday was 2 weeks from his surgery and we went back to the vet. He is doing great - he has healed perfectly - the stitches will fall out on their own. It seems he did this once before with the first owner too, but was hospitalized and taken care of. You cannot begin to realize how happy I am that he found us and his permanent home.

Hi! My name is TiPaul - Who was 8000??? Who will be vote 9000?

I am a Congo African Grey from Entrelacs, QC.

nope

13 years old   M

Congo African Grey

We're still working on that one. UPDATE: He is taking food from my hands and loves almonds, peanuts and nutriberries along with fresh fruits and veggies.

On top of his cage, walking the floors and on my shoulder

He is still not settled in completely, as he only came to live with us 2 weeks ago. UPDATE: He is acting like a CAG - loves shredding apart his cardboard boxes

She is patient with me and lets me go about fitting in with the other parrots at my own pace. She also insisted that my old cage be delivered here, because I am used to it. UPDATE: It has been 3 months since I have come to live here, and I am so happy - I know what a real flock is all about.

Feather picking and biting his nails.

If it's cardboard, and it's a box, let me at it..

  Hi TiPaul
HAPPY HUMPDAY

TODAY WAS A FUN DAY BECAUSE WE GOT TO MEET MS FALCO BEAK TO BEAK AFTER HER VET APPOINTMENT. SHE SURE IS ONE PRETTY GIRL. AFTER FALCO AND HER MOM LEFT MOM WAS DEBATING WETHER SHE SHOULD TAKE DOWN THE HUMINGBIRD FEEDERS SINCE WE HAVENT SEEN ANY HUMMERS FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. WELL ABOUT 4 MINUTES AFTER FALCO LEFT A LITTLE HUMMINGBIRD SHOWED UP AT ONE OF THE FEEDERS. THE NECTAR WAS PRETTY OLD SO MOM WAS SCRAMBLING LIKE CRAZY TO CLEAN THE FEEDER AND REFILL IT SO THE LITTLE HUMMER WOULD GET A FRESH MEAL. THE MALE HUMMERS ALL WENT SOUTH A LONG TIME AGO BECAUSE THEY ONLY COME NORTH FOR ONE REASON AND AFTER THEY HAVE DONE THEIR DEED AND EATEN THEIR FILL OF BUGS AND NECTAR THEY HAVE NO MORE REASON TO STAY. THE ONLY ONES LEFT AT THIS POINT ARE YOUNG ONES AND SOME STRAGGLER FEMALES FROM THE NORTH. MOM WILL MAKE ONE MORE BATCH OF NECTAR IN CASE ANY MORE SHOW UP IN THE ENSUING WEEKS. IN THE PAST 1 OR 2 HUMMERS HAVE SHOWN UP AT THE END OF OCTOBER AND WE WANT THEM STRONG FOR THEIR LONG FLIGHT SOUTH.

We had another nice sunny day. Mom had to take her car in for the "works" as Ford calls it. It is now ready for her trip downstate and to PA. We also received good news that Ms Falco is on the mend. Way to go girlfriend, it was so good to chat with you today. Have a nice evening.

  Hi TiPaul
Thanks for helping me celebrate BOTD! I was so surprised to see myself staring out on the main page. It was a great party in the castle, too, hope you were able to attend and get some of that great cake.
Sorry I didn't get here earlier. Mom just got back from the vet. The Doctor was actually pleased with the healing on Falco's leg, but the wound in her side was not there before. It hadn't bled that mom could see. When her leg got hurt, she bled all over the cage. This new wound might be from her picking at her side, we just don't know. Anyway, she is on oral antibiotics for 2 weeks, and they will go back for a follow up next week. Mom is also putting some aloe vera healing balm on the leg and side for now, as well. The gook news is that her gram stain was normal and she has gained 5 grams, bringing her weight back to where it should be.
I hope you are having a good day and getting lots of hugs. Here's one from me, too. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi TiPaul
Today when mom tried to sign on to her Verizon account, she couldn't do it. It kept cycling onto the intro page and wouldn't let her proceed. She tried changing her password, too, but that didn't work either. Anyway, she called Verizon and is waiting for a call back. But it took valuable time, since today is my vet appointment.
Yesterday mom took Falco to the center and the staff up there found much more wrong with her leg! They advised mom to call the vet and get her there, so that's what mom doing today. The appointment is at 1:30 and mom is just feeling horrid about not knowing it was so bad.
Falco hasn't been spending time with her like she used to, but mom thought she just was upset about her wing clip. Instead, now she thinks Falco's been in pain for over 2 months, and she is kicking herself for not doing something sooner.
We are hoping they can do something for her leg, though.
I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of sunshine and love. Hugs, Willie

Day 17--A Whale of a Good Time
Good morning everyone, Happy Humpday. Today we will finish our trip along the coast. Arrangements were made for our horses and supplies to be delivered to our newest camp site in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. It's sure been an awesome sight to see all the wild seabirds including Arctic Puffins and several Gull and Tern species. The Grey Seals were a playful surprise, however as many of us know their plight is sad as animal rights groups world-wide fight to ban the annual seal hunt. We had just set off when we were joined by a pod of playful, entertaining whales.
Spot lands eggspertly in his kayak, and waves at a whale! BonBon and Snowflake shriek and laugh as one of the whales 'blows' right next to them and they get showered!"Oh, no, we're covered in whale snot!" yells BonBon! Spot and the band of bros. laugh at them as they try to wipe off the stuff!
"That'll teach you to get too close to the whales! " says Spot.
Just then a whale comes up under Spot's kayak and dumps them into the water! The mama Whale says," it's not nice to laugh at the pretty girl birds! "
"Yes ma'am, we're sorry!" says Spot and the boys reply! He whispers to Panther," we better get out of here!"
"What an adventure! "says Panther." We could have been eaten by whales!"
Angel Girl laughs and says, "silly boys, whales don't eat birds!"
"Today we visit Cheticamp, Cape Breton, a famous Nova Scotia destination, known for it's whale sightings. The most frequent sightings are big Fin whales, dolphins, Minke whales, Humpback whales and Pilot whales. Seals and Puffins are observed on nearly every tour.
"hey look, spotted whales?" Puffin calls out, " look at the white spots"
"They are actually North Atlantic right whales which come here rarely with their calves for the summer from Florida and Georgia waters. Those white patches seen on the right whale's head are raised tissue that is actually dark in color called callosities. Whale lice or cyamids covering the callosities are what makes them appear white. " Sky explains
Little Peep and Rio stand tall to get abetter glimpse of the rare whales. Kiddo and Sweetpepper take photos of the whales as they surface close by. Pilot whales splash happily at the kayaking birdies, as they call in whale-enise to one another. " They're so cute" Kacey adds as she sketches a whale jumping out of the water on her art pad.
" These are so gentle yet so large" Mr Finnegan comments to Susan as they sit watching from their kayak.
" Until recently Whales were feared as being dangerous and aggressive, yet look, how gently they swim and play close to us." BB states as she snuggles with Sky to watch they giants of the ocean.
"Willie, did you get a good shot of that baby and her Momma?" Falco asks from across the group of kayaks bobbing softly in the calm waters.
"YEP! Mom's gonna love these pictures."
Reluctantly the group begins to paddle towards their next stop-over! Spot waves good-bye!

I sure hope this weather changes for next year! We need a good year.
It was a beautiful sunny day. It got up to 59 degrees at one point but it was chilly because of the wind. The sad part is the huge gathering of Canada geese in Walloon Lake. They were resting on the way down south. Mom was asking them not to go unless they take her with them. I hope I get to go too! Fly Away Home music begins ...........

  Day 16--Kayaking Adventures
Good morning everyone, Angel Girl here with today's post. The afternoon turned out perfect for kayaking along the coast line. We stop for lunch in a sheltered cove, where within minutes we are able to visit a nationally known Seabird nesting site. Here Terns, Gulls and other species nest noisily in the rocky cliffs and along the shoreline. As we enjoyed our lunch the sounds from the nesting birds was difficult to hear over.
"WOW, I can't believe how loud they are" Popeye yells to Chyna only inches away. The two girls laugh as neither can hear one another.
"Look" Cydney says pointing to a family of whales surfacing not far off shore. She snaps several pictures before joining Willie, Kaji, Lizzie and Cookie as they hike to the nesting grounds with the others. " Yuck!" she looks down, and sees she'd stepped in Sea Gull poop, " OH no, my new shoes!" she looks sadly at the mess. The others giggle
"Snowy!" Sky calls, come here buddy wanta show you something " a lobster" they look at the large clawed creature staring angrily back from a shallow pool of water among rocks. Let's help him back into the ocean." Sky says trying to pick the snapping Lobster." Snowy grabs a stick and lifts him up as he clamps down. " not such a nice fella are ya?" he laughs as Sky and him gently lower him into the surf.
"AHHHHHH, babies" Little Angel tells Dixie, " aren't they cute." they watch the fledglings trying to rise into the sky as clouds of white take off from the shore. " doesn't it make you just wanta have a baby to love too?" LA gets all dreamy eyed. "Maybe we can adopt a baby bird?" she smiles sweetly watching the youngsters.
Boo Boo and Cori take photos of the birds in flight, as Chipper and BonBon draw pictures in their sketchbooks. Spot and a few of the boys take off into the sky flying with the Seabirds, screaming happily with them.
"Ok, sorry everybirdie but we must move on. We have lots more to see" Angel Girl calls loudly, trying to be hear over the roar of bird voices. Reluctantly everyone says farewell to their new friends, as they head to the shore and get their kayak ready to move on. The whales continue to swim close to the shore as the group paddles off. Angel Girl shares a little history of Cape Breton as they quietly paddle along.

In 1784, Britain split the colony of Nova Scotia into three separate colonies: New Brunswick, Cape Breton Island, and present-day peninsular Nova Scotia, in addition to the adjacent colonies of St. John's Island (renamed Prince Edward Island in 1798) and Newfoundland. The colony of Cape Breton Island had its capital at Sydney on its namesake harbor fronting on Spanish Bay and the Cabot Strait. Its first Lieutenant-Governor was Joseph Frederick Wallet DesBarres (1784–1787) and his successor was William Macarmick (1787).

Large-scale shipbuilding began in the 1790s. Shipbuilding peaked in the 1850s, marked in 1851 by the full rigged ship Lord Clarendon, the largest ever built in Cape Breton.

  Hi TiPaul
Mom had a meeting today at the museum, so we are just getting online now. It was mostly about teaching new docents the rest of the halls. Mom had 2 years of training, but the docents who were hired in the spring only had training either in Dinosaur hall or in 3 cultures. Now they are worried that the new folks can't do tours in the rest of the museum. Anyway mom signed on to teach ecosystems, biomes, and animal adaptations, as well as possibly PA natural history. Hope they can use her expertise in some way or other.
Bree came by to do our birdicures yesterday and while she and mom were talking, mom mentioned that I am not as active with her as I used to be, and that I haven't really wanted a bath for awhile either. Bree looked at my injured leg and she thinks I might still have a fractured fibula, the little bone in the leg. So mom called Jill today to see if she can look at me and give her opinion, and maybe some vet wrap too.
I hope you are having a good day today, getting a lot of love and sunshine. Hugs, Willie

  Hi TiPaul
it doesn't usually get cool like this until October. i hope this doesn't mean we are in for a super long winter. winters already way to long. with all the rain we had you would think the ground would be moist but everything is dry as a bone so mom was trying to water some of the shrubs that are really wilting. its important that they get plenty of water in the fall because once the ground freezes they don't get any water at all. mom had planted some shrubs called beauty berry because they get these tiny purple luminescent berries in the fall and are quite pretty and the birds also eat them. well when mom went to water them today something had cut off all the branches with the berries on them and they were laying all over the ground. mom can't understand why someone would do that. it wasn't a deer because a deer would eat it and not leave it laying on the ground so it had to be some nasty neighbor or kid. didn't see the little bunny today but will continue to watch for him

  Hi TiPaul
Mom got your mom's message and will call back soon. Weekends are getting pretty busy right now, though.
Today Bree is coming for our birdicures. This morning mom cleaned the outdoor RVS pens for the first time in awhile. There are 2 adult coyotes out there in separate pens as well as 22 raccoons! Good thing the raccoons are social and don't mind sharing quarters, because the center doesn't have 22 cages out there! They can be housed in a few large cages, but those are real bears to clean, so it took mom over 2 hours for all the outdoor areas today. Still, it was nice to be out in the sun, even if it was cooler than we like.
I don't think we'll get out today, because it's not very warm again. In fact, it looks like it's gonna be cool all week long. I hope you are having better weather, getting some warm sunshine and especially getting lots of cuddles. Hugs, Willie

  Hi TiPaul
Today mom was up super early to feed us and the dogs, then get to an event on time. She thought she would have time to walk the furballs, but she didn't, so she's going to walk them when we are done with our blogs. The event was called Wild Rumpus, and there were 2 obstacle courses, one for adults that was 5km, and one for kids that was considerably shorter, as it was all in a field with a hill on it. There weren't as many people as mom thought there would be, but it was not well advertised and was competing with at least 2 other local events. It was damp and cool out, but mom was mostly dressed for the weather. She refused to wear real shoes, though, so her feet got cold in her sandals. Twitch the squirrel was pretty cute, though. He ate a couple of Brazil nuts which mom gave him as a challenge. She thought it would take him awhile to get through the shell into the nut, but he surprised her with his quickness.
I hope you are having a good day today, staying warm and getting cuddles. Hugs, Willie

  Day 14--Inverness-Eagle Eye Kayak tour-part 1
Good morning everybirdie, Angel Girl with today's first Inverness adventure. As the red sun rises over the ocean we finish our hearty breakfast of toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and fruit served up by some of our handsome boy-birds. By the time the sun is above the waters edge we are riding off to begin today's fun tour. Our destination is Eagle Eye Kayak tours. We will kayak from Inverness Harbour along the warm calm waters of the Northumberland Strait. See the rugged cliffs, waterfalls and rocky coastlines. Watch the many Bald Eagles that frequent the area. Take a break for a snack on a secluded beach and look for beach glass or fossils. We will learn to and experience the peacefulness of paddling the spectacular coast and enjoying the natural beauty of the coastline.
"Everybirdie ready?" Angel Girls calls as we turn our horses out into the paddock, with plenty of hay and water. " we are off for a five hour adventure. Make sure to bring your cameras, water bottles and let's have some serious fun" Angel Girl waves her wing and leads off towards the shoreline where the instructors are waiting.
After an in-depth discussion on paddling, safety and making certain our life-jackets are on correctly, we are assigned a Kayak, and push out to sea. "Hey that sounds so cool. Out to sea!" Angel Girl giggles happily as she tries to balance in the kayak.
"Wee, this is fun" Rio yells to Kaji and Lizzie in the Kayak. " wow, don't move too much!" he tells Miranda in another Kayak.
"Look!" Jenny-Lynn points to a distant dark shape, " a whale" she shows Lalo and Sweetie, who stares in awe as the giant mammal surfaces int he far distance.
"Eagles!" Finnegan says, watching the majestic form above, " he's beautiful"
" Tango and Susan look down into the dark water seeing small schools of fish swimming by their Kayak"
"Oh Dixie, this is soooo much fun" Little Angel smiles eggcitedly, " I love kayaking" she paddles like a pro. Sky gives her a frown, as he and BB gain their sea-legs and stop their Kayak tipping side to side.
"Touchy things aren't they" Pearl cries as Silver and Peppino try to steady their wobbling kayak.
Finally we are all ready, and begin to dip our paddles into the calm ocean water. The kayaks move silently, some steadier then others as first-time paddlers learn how to do it. Before all have mastered paddling and off we head along the coast-line.
"A moose" Pookie calls out. A huge bull raises his head from drinking, and watches the birds paddle past. Ducks and Canada Geese flock along the waters edge, swimming along beside us as we go. " WOW, Swans." a group of thirty or more white Swans honk their annoyance of our intrusion. Polly and Falco snap pictures with their cameras.
" Everybirdie" Angel Girl yells out, " Seals" the coastline area is grey with seals. Their calls filling the air loudly. Many hurriedly dive into the water, coming closes for us to take pictures. " this is amazing!" Angel Girl takes lots of photos

  Hi TiPaul
#8650
Just another cold (49 to 51 degrees for a high) and rainy day. I was busy destroying some new toys. Mom waited until I was finished to clean my area. I wonder why? I thought it looked nice. It finally stopped raining at dinner time.
Hugs
Chyna

Come visit me, Chyna & Bailey ♥ RIP.

  Hi TiPaul
Breaking news: A massive pesticide company has just asked the U.S. government to increase the legal limit for its bee-killing pesticides by 4000%.

That’s right. Four. Thousand. Percent.

Bees are already facing a massive global die-off. This could be a death sentence for millions more bees. Bees fill a crucial ecological role as pollinators and are essential for agriculture, and are responsible for every third bite of food we eat. In other words: No bees, no farms. No farms, no food.

because of this we have come to the conclusion that all CEO's of chemical companies are space aliens intent on the annihilation of all life on earth as we know it. just watch any alien space movie and you will see we are right!

Day 13--Welcome to Inverness & its County
Hello everybirdie, Angel Girl here from Inverness, Cape Breton Island. Before we begin I want to ask that everybirdie continue in prayer. We have an urgent request from one of our BC family who wish to remain anonymous at this time. Their sweet baby is in critical, life & death crisis. Also our BC Queen Chuey is not feeling well, although there seems to be some improvement day so ask for continued prayers.
After a mix-up due to Chuey's need for immediate medical care, the wedding of Tiamaria Ganster to my frother Casey went on. It was to be rescheduled, sorry for the mix-up. They will be holding a reception later in the month to celebrate. Rev Spot did an awesome job of performing his very first Celtic wedding.
Now that we have relocated to Inverness ( Scottish Gaelic: Baile Inbhir Nis), a small rural community of approximately 3000 persons.

Located on the west coast of Cape Breton Island fronting the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Inverness sits astride a small coal seam which was exploited from the late 19th century to the mid-late 20th century, beginning with a mine opened by William Mackenzie and Donald Mann during the 1890s after they achieved control of the Inverness and Richmond Railway. Several more mines opened in and near Inverness during the early 20th century, but many closed following World War II with the last one closing in the early 1990s following a fire.

The community was incorporated as a town in 1904. It experienced economic hardship since large scale industrial coal mining ended; the local economy is now based mainly on fishing and tourism. Inverness Raceway was established in 1926, and harness races are held twice weekly between May and October. North America's only true links golf course, the (200-acre (0.81 km2)) Cabot Links is located on the former coal mine and overlooks beautiful sandy beaches. Inverness County is like an unspoken guardian of Cape Breton Island’s Celtic traditions. Its tiny communities are teeming with pride and a genuine way of life that has maintained Gaelic traditions throughout the years. There are many Celtic treasures and traditions waiting to be discovered in Inverness County, from its lively community dances to its well-known outdoor music concerts. The sunset side of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia seems to whisper all things Gaelic.

"WOW, this is so beautiful" Cinn-A-Bunn says taking in the panoramic view of Inverness and county. " Look at the ocean, how blue it is from up here on the mountainside." Zippy adds taking photos.

The birds take in the scene set out before them. Starting tomorrow they will be busily eggploring many interesting and fun adventures.
