I had a Sun Conure (Noah)years ago. When Noah died it stuck me hard. Nothing could take his place. I just needed time I suppose. My son has several birds. I was visiting him and the birds. It just made me want another bird. So, I checked the internet and brushed up on my bird knowledge. Then I went to the "Bird Farm" and found "Paulie" and it was love at first sight. What a darling dude..

I can tell that she likes to spoil me with toys and attention. She like to talk alot to me. Sometime I don't know what she is saying but, I guess she pretty cool.

I put a large hairclip on a small leather rope. He sits on top of the hairclip and nibbles on it. Silly guy..

  Hello from Caymus' mom...
Hello my dear friend! I know you probably haven't checked Paulie's page for a bit buy just wanted to say hi. How have you been? It's was scary here a few weeks ago. Caymus flew away. I immediatley thought of you and Paulie. Long story short, Caymus came across a little boy in our neighborhood, probably just minutes after flying off, and had the good sense to fly to him. His mom saw my "lost" poster and called me and I got him back the same night. I have now clipped his wings, but we're having a screen installed on our front patio so that there is always two doors between Caymus and the outside. I truly wish Paulie could have had the same story. I'm sure you still miss him. Just please know that we hope you are doing ok and that your memories of Paulie warm your heart instead of making you sad. You are a great friend and am sure glad I met you and Paulie. No matter how our little feathered babies are with us, their love last forever. Take care, Michelle and Caymus.

Hello Paulie! I know…long time, no squawk. It’s been an interesting few weeks around here. My skin-sis just celebrated her 12th birthday and (I don’t know what my parrots were thinking) she had a sleepover with FIVE other girls. And mommy and daddy thought I was loud? Ha! A good time was had by all and only one girl went home with a tummy ache (pizza at 11 p.m. followed by chips, soda and a pickle…ugh!) and apparently dad has to repair my sis’ bed. Hey, I understand…sometimes I chew off the loops that hold my happy hut to the bar clips and mommy has to sew them back on. (grin) Dad’s two sisters also came to visit and I got to sleep in mom and dad’s room just incase I felt like imitating an alarm clock in the early morning. But even daddy said I was on my best behavior and when everyone left on Monday, mom fixed me a special plate with brown rice, chicken, green beans and grapes! Sunday mom is going to the bird show and I can’t wait to see what she brings back (feathers crossed for a Pak-o-bird). So what’s new with you? Hope all is well and I’m leaving ya a HUMONGUS hug and a vote!

  Paulie-Waulie, my BBFF!!!!
Caymus here. What a coicidinky...my daddy's name is Jason, so I think that's a great name. tehehe Well mommy remembers reading somewhere that rats actually make excellent companions. I guess most everybirdy would think they are creepy but they'd be welcome in our house, too. My skin sis has two mice and they are really friendly and love to be fed Cheerios. We also have a hedgehog, two cats, indoor fish, and a koi pond out back. My skin sis once wrote a paper when she was in elementary school saying she had 27 pets. The teacher pulled her aside to ask about that an probably breathed a sigh of relief when sis explained that 20 of them had gills! When mom was single (eons ago) she had a burmese python. She loved it but just couldn't bear to go to the pet store and choose the animal that was going to be snake food. She let her roommate do that. Finally, when her roommate moved out, mommy let her take the snake with her. She still has the big guy and is 16 ft. long and he has his own custom-built room complete with waterfall and a tree! She had a zoo keeper come out to help her design the room for maximum escape-proof security. What kind of snakes did your mom have? Probably won't be around this weekend so want to wish you a happy weekend...sending big hugs and luv your way!

  Hi there Paulie
Audie from Brooklyn, N.Y. I just finished visiting Caymus, and read what you wrote to him. Now let see if I can get this straight. You have cats and rats in your home. Now don't you think that is rather strange? Cats go after rats and mice. Sometimes, they're not friendly with birds. We tried having a cat, but she was scaring me and my mom had to give her away. I hope your cats are friendly with you and kept away from the rats. You take care of yourself. Here's a hug, kiss and a v4u. lol.

Hey Paulie, just flying by to let you know mom put up a pic of my new cage and one of me eating a popcorn treat (she had to take that one quickly because those treats go down fast)...hehehe. Mom is glad she could make your mom feel just a tad better about Sammy. If only every parront could be as great as our two mommies, huh?   The Great and Wonderful Paulie...
Caymus here. Please tell your mom that we are very sorry to hear about Sammy. But she gave it her best shot and it is a whole different world when you're working with wild-caught vs. hand-reared parrots. Imagine trying to get a cheetah, born and raised out on the fields of Africa, to not attack a human or use a couch as a scratching post! Heck, even the kitty-cat here tries to use the couch as a scratching post and he's about as domestic as they come! (Luckily, he's also declawed because the couch is leather and Peachy and I are his housemates.) Humans forget that even us, the hand-raised babies, are essentially still wild animals. And I certainly know what you mean about dads...did you see the nicknames up in my profile that my daddy has for me? (Hmph!) My observation in humans is that women have an exponential amount more patience and understanding then men. Generally speaking of course, I'm sure there are a few exceptions...somewhere. Maybe. (hehehe) Mom would be the same way your mom is…heartbroken to give up something she loves so much. But even the smallest good deeds matter…if your mom gave Sammy even just the smallest push towards happiness, it’s worth it, right? And don’t be silly…I don’t live in a mansion! (but that’s a GREAT idea!) The outside cage was just supposed to be temporary anyway until mom found something bigger and easier to clean. Well that’s about all for today…I’m rambling on again. (Maybe daddy is right in calling me Jabber Jaw.) hehehe Big hugs and much luv!

  Happy July from Caymus!
Hello Paulie! Please excuse the “form” email but it is the only way I can catch everybirdy up on what’s been shakin’ without sounding like a broken record. Anyway, we’ve all been very busy with yet more projects around the house. Mom has permanently put my cage out on the back patio and (drum roll please) bought me a nice new (bigger..yippie!) cage for the living room. She got kind of tired of rolling me in and out of the house and my water dish splashing all over the place. I started a few conversations with the neighborhood Mockingbirds, but the Blue Jays and Cardinals are still scared of me. The Pelicans fly too high for me to talk to, and I HATE, HATE, HATE the stupid vultures that sometimes land of the neighbor’s roof. I’ll scream my head off if I see one of these buggers! I’m getting along well with my skin-sis while she’s on summer break. Some days she goes to camp but on days she is home I make sure she doesn’t sleep too late and get her up around 9-9:30am, which is pretty nice of me considering I’m a Conure and I love a good morning yell! On the other wing, she does give me a treat for letting her sleep in a bit and I’ve helped her clean out her room, which is her project for the summer. And if you can believe, she came up with that project all on her own without any instruction from our parronts! Let’s see…what else? Oh yes, the back patio…well you know the one I’m on is screened in. Well mom and dad decided they want to lay a brick patio on the outside of the screened room, too. So this weekend mom started tearing up the grass and she’s got about half of it done. Next she has to level and tramp down the existing dirt, then spread paver sand on top of that, and then finally she will have to put down each paver, one at a time, leveling it out and fitting in the next one. Daddy wanted to hire someone to do it, but mom’s got her frozen lemonade and her big umbrella all ready to go and told daddy she wants to design her own patio and if it takes all summer, that’s ok. Daddy just has to supply the materials and mom will do all the work. And I’ll supervise! hehehe Dad’s bettin’ she cries “uncle,” but if I know mom, she’ll complete the project to perfection. I’ll let you know how that turns out. Oh, and last thing…I heard a firecracker go off a few nights ago. Scared the bejesus out of me and I took cover in my happy-hut. Last night, however, it was no big deal. Sometimes the humans in my flock are louder than an entire fireworks display. (I’m sure my parronts would say the same about me.) So mom’s happy that I’m taking it all in stride and she won’t have to worry about me having a nervous break-down on the 4th of July. On that note, I’d like to leave you with my joke of the day…Q: “What would you get if you crossed the American national bird with Snoopy? A: A bald beagle! Woo-hoo-hoo-hoo!!!!! Leaving big hugs and a vote…squawk at ya later!

  Hello from Caymus
Hi Paulie! Well it certainly sounds like Sammy is teaching your mom lots of patience. Me, I taught my daddy why headphones are important! hehehe Just kidding, I'm really not THAT loud; sometimes I just have my "moods." But we're birds...we're entitled! How would humans like it if they were forced to live in OUR world? Not that I don't love my flock because they do make sure I'm safe and give me good food and clean water and there are no predators (trust me, our cats can't move fast enough to be predators) and they always love me no matte what, so life is pretty good. But tell Sammy to be patient with mom too...humans are slow learners. Well Silestone is actually a brand of Quartz countertops, but is also a "green" company, striving to make sure any environmental impact is minimal. Quartz is harder and tougher and more green than granite so that's why mom chose it...plus of the cleanliness factor. Ok, well gotta go check out for now...I see treats! Big hugs and lots of luv!

  Hello from Caymus
Ooooo, new kitchen floors? We have tile everywhere except the bedrooms so mom's pretty happy with the flooring right now, although she would prefer hardwood (from managed forests, of course) instead of ceramic tile. Either way, it's bird poopy-friendly and that's what matters (hehehe). We got the new Silestone countertops. They look and feel like granite but are more "earth friendly." They are also anti-bacterial, which is mucho important because I love playing around on the countertop when mom makes my breakfast. So how is Sammy doing? Well I'm leaving some big hugs and a vote for now...we'll squawk soon! And thanks for thinking of me; it feels so great to be missed! (big grin)

  Hello from Caymus
Hi Paulie, no vacations, but no problems either. We've just been busy little birdies around here! Besides multiple home improvement projects that have (FINALLY) been completed, the young skin-sis is out of school for the summer (meaning LOTS of attention for me), mom is going to be working one less day a week (she's so looking forward to her "alone" time...except I'm there of course), I'm molting (where did all these feathers COME from?), and Sunday mom dragged daddy to our local bird show and she was so mad when the vendor who sells my pellets at a huge discount wasn't even there! So that's our life in a nut shell right now...how about you? It's pouring down cats and dogs outside right now...luckily the thunder and lightening doesn't scare me so I continue with my blogging and toy chewing. Leaving big hugs for ya...love ya!

Hey Paulie! How are you this fine Friday my feathered friend? Guess what? Mom was looking on craigslist for a bigger cage for me so she always puts in "bird" or "parrot" to search for one, and she came across a lady who is moving overseas (or so she says) and needs to find a new home for her Blue Crowed Conure. Mommy has been bugging daddy ever since if they could even just go meet the little guy, but daddy's not budging. Dad says no more, but mom pointed out that a few weeks ago our beta-fish died and that decreased the head-count by 1. Dad still didn't buy it. Of course mom doesn't want to really push adding another bird unless the whole family is on-board, but dad wasn't that thrilled about me either and now we're best buddies...he even gives me kisses good-bye in the morning! (sigh) Mom and I really hope that BCC finds a good, loving forever home. Have a great weekend, my BBFF...love ya!

My mom, Peachy and I have had such a blast celebrating with everybirdy and their parronts. And the reason it's been the best week of my life (so far) is because of YOU! Mom has finished rubbing my feet and tomorrow it's Bar-B-Q time! (hey dad, don't forget the watermellon!) And in honor of all those who have died for our country, for those who have served our country, and for who are still putting their lives on the line every day, please join me in a moment of silence tomorrow (any time during the day, doesn't matter when) to salute them and their families. Now as I two-step on out of here, I'm leaving big birdy hugs and of course, a vote for you! (Ladies and gentlebirds, Caymus has left the building.)

My cage has been moved to mom’s room because new countertops are being installed in the kitchen. And to top it all of, the ladies who clip my toenails are coming by tonight…eek! But of course I’m taking it all in stride and being a really good birdie. Mom even took me out once to the kitchen and I instructed those workers on how things should be done! They should be finished today, daddy comes home tomorrow, and mom says sis’ project BETTER be done by Friday. What a crazy flock I have…but I love ‘em anyway!   Hello from Caymus
Hey Paulie! How’s it going? I haven’t been on for a few days because mommy and daddy went away on vacation. My big skin-sis birdy-sat me and she is lots of fun, but I was so happy to see my parronts when they got back! On one day of their vacation they went to a place called Jungle Gardens. Mom got to hold a beautiful Hyacinth and even hand-fed some flamingos (pics on my page). This place rescues and rehabilitates injured wildlife, and also accepts animals that people get as pets and then find they can’t handle them any more. It’s also home of Frosty, the 72-year-old Greater Sulfur Crested Cockatoo who became a star on the Ed Sullivan show. If you are ever in Sarasota, Florida, mommy highly recommends a visit. Daddy also got to pick a day to do stuff he wanted and so of course it was an entire day of fishing. Well mom fishes, too (has since her daddy took her) and she told me the most curious story. While holding on to her rod, 20 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico, a tiny little birdie flew in out of nowhere and landed on the tip of her fishing pole. He stood there for about 30 seconds, looked at her, and flew away. Not a minute later, mom caught her very first grouper! Mommy thinks her grandma, who passed over the Rainbow Bridge last year, sent that little birdie to give mom some good luck. Turned out, mom caught the biggest fish that day, and the most fish (all of which she threw back). Oh, and of course mom had to find out what kind of bird it was and found it was a Yellow-faced Grassquit. Gotta fly for now…leaving big hugs and a vote!

  Awe!
Hey Paulie, that is the best compliment that any birdy could receive! (Well, I do like it when mom sings the "Caymus Song," but of course mom is suppose to worship me.) I am so honored that I met you, and that my mommy met your mommy. Blue Crowns have always been special to us, and you are one more reason why! Mom and I are going to take a few days off to relax, so enjoy the rest of the week. Leaving big hugs and a vote! Luv ya! (Caymus & his mom, Michelle)

  HAPPY EARTH DAY FROM CAYMUS
Happy Earth Day, Paulie! Today is the day to celebrate our planet, do something positive to make it a better place, and to pass on that message to our future generations. Mom and I want to take this time to thank you for reading my “Green Ideas.” You know what the best part was? We have realized that all the BC parronts out there are the largest group of green-minded folks around! I mean, I send out an idea and I get tons of responses back that your flock is already doing these things! Now, I know there are a lot of really good people out there with an appreciation for nature and the will power to save our plant. But for everybirdy here to all have that same ideal? My theory is that us birdies have a special influence on our humans. That when they look in our eyes, they see compassion. When they see us fly, they know our hearts. And when they feel our feathers against their skin, they know that the trust we give them comes from a spirit within us all. I’m so honored to be a part of this BC family, and so my final “green idea of the day” is to BE KIND TO ONE ANOTHER…WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!

  Hey Paulie!
Wow, your mom use to work with all those wild birds? That is so neat...my mom would love to do that. She did volunteer for a while at a wildlife refuge here but they were about 90 min. away so she didn't do it for that long. But when she lived in Ft. Lauderdale she went once a week to a wildlife rehabilitation center and loved every minute of it. Her favorite patient was a pot-bellied pig named Buttercup that followed her around all day long and then sprawl out by her feet when she went in to do paperwork. Good thing she never brought Buttercup home...I don't think daddy would have married a lady with a pig. (I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere but mommy says I need to be polite.) hehehe Leaving big hugs and a vote...I'll be back tomorrow to leave my final green idea of the day...squawk at ya then! (CAYMUS’ GREEN IDEA OF THE DAY: Do something special on Earth Day. Go on a nature hike, plant native flowers in your garden, hang a wild bird feeder, or get the flock together and watch a movie like “An Inconvenient Truth,” or “The 11th Hour.” I highly recommend the BBC series that is now out on DVD called “Plant Earth.” The video footage is nothing short of amazing. Tomorrow is Earth Day… WEAR GREEN TO CELEBRATE!)

  Hey Paulie!
I didn’t blog much yesterday because my skin-sis had to work on a school project and I had to give up the computer. I think I’m going to ask daddy for a laptop that mom and I can share. They even have those ones that come in different colors. Of course I’ll pick GREEN! (hehehe) Wishing you a happy weekend…leaving hugs and a vote. (CAYMUS’ "GREEN IDEA OF THE DAY": Stay away from chemical fertilizers! Instead, use used coffee grounds, Epsom salt, start a compost pile, or you can even use molasses! For a list of organic fertilizers and their uses, go to www.basic-info-4-organic-fertilizers.com. 3 more days until Earth Day!)
