For the longest timeI had been wanting to add, either an African Grey or an Amazon to my home, and both were for sale in the pets for sale in the newspaper, for the same price! When Jenny and I met, the search was over, as she walked over to me and started crawling up my leg, she knew, and I knew, that we would be forever friends, and while she was no longer wanted in her other home, you should see and feel the love she exudes to all who come near her, she adds the brilliance of Summer sunshine to our home daily! I could not possibly imagine my life without Jennifer, without Jen I would cease to be, she gives me reason and makes my heart beat!! Jenny Lynn is an awesome parrot...

  Hi, Jenny Lynn
Glad that there were not major injuries or damage from those recent tornadoes. Have heard many areas are having flood issues and that really makes us sad being in a drought. If only that eggcess rain was falling here instead and all would be well in both areas.

The parronts didn't BBQ but had the hot dogs and burgers all the same. Potato salad and baked beans too. Our dad doesn't eat corn so much anymore so mom skipped that but she might get an ear soon so we can have some.

Both our gpas served. Many of skinsis friends are active duty or veterans too, including her hubby's brother. We thank them all for their service and sacrifice.

Have a great day, wing hugs, beak kisses and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

  Hello Dallas flock
Yesterday mom and dad relaxed here - went for a walk after dinner, but that was it. The whole entire day they were home with me ! The way it should be - they watched some war movies and had popcorn ! Then a cookout ! Perfect !

Now it's back to school for mom :( For 22 days ! Yep, it's time to start counting !

We're in summer weather this week - mid 80's with chances of thunderboomers each afternoon. Hope you have a nice fun day - love Cookie

  Hi Jenny and flockily,
I'm so glad you guys are safe, we watched the news and started praying for everyone in the danger zones.

Hope you guys had a nice Memorial holiday.

The parronts were running around town looking for a certain bug light bulb for the garage bug zapper.

Who knew all the stores on this island don't have it. :(

So mom ended up ordering it from Amazon as dad gets mad cause the bugs don't go in for the black light.

We are sending you all big birdie hugs and beaky kisses as we all love you and mom send Papa Chuck a big ole Hawaiian hug! :)

Here's a vote for you.

Love & hugs from your friends in Hawaii!

  Heya, Miss Jenny!
We had rain off and on in the morning, and then the sun came out and it sure was humid here. Mom broke down and turned on the air cuz she was all sweaty. Of course, that was after she brought out the ironing board and ironed some of the clothes she washed. Oh, I was so happy to see that iron. Got to sit on her shoulder, too, for a while, but when I wanted to crawl down on the clothes, she put me on the playgym. Drats!

I hope you had a nice enjoyable Memorial Day no matter what you did or where you went. Ours was pretty relaxing and we sat out side and I got a little bath before going out. It was very warm and I dried off quickly too. There was some traffic though not as much as yesterday. I guess people are always wanting to be somewhere else no matter where they are LOL. Angel Christy and the precious Dallas flock and family and Uncle Chuck!
In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row by row,
That mark our place, and in the sky
The larks,still bravely singing ,fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below,
We are the Dead.Short days ago
We lived,felt dawn,saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe;
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch;be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields

  Remember Our Heroes!!
Hi Dallas Flock,

Well, this Memorial Day has been a good one for food. After two days of prep, Dad put two enchilada pies in the oven to bake. Fresh roasted chile peppers and fresh ground dried chiles, fresh cilantro, Mexican cheese, corn tortillas and best of all the meat: Pastor (Mexican BBQ) from the Valley Market butcher's shop. Lots more stuff, but it is all Dad's secret recipe. Mom and I shared a bowl, and Mom's mouth wanted more even when her tummy said enough.

However there are much more important things to think about today. Mom's dad served in WWI, but he got sent over right as things ended and never had to fight. Her brother served a tour in Viet Nam, but he was in the Signal Corps and never had to shoot anyone. Over the years many others were not so lucky, and many others never came home at all. Let's take a minute to remember their sacrifices. And if you haven't read the Memorial Day Program on the Calendar page, you will want to get on over there and check it out. Great job Director Popeye!

Head bowed in gratitude,
Kiddo

Hi Jenny-Lynn and the Dallas Flock
Hello everybirdie, Sweetie here on this damp, dull Monday herein Napanee, Ontariot. With less then a week left in this month, I wanted to take a brief look at a few of the blogs you left on my page to share with everyone. I have enjoyed reading all of your comments, and encourage everybirdie to share in the discussion. I was reading this morning and came across Miss Chyna's blog. It brought back many memories to me about my beginnings here in the Sky Flock. Chyna was very blessed indeed that her Momma and Daddy found her when they did. Dirty, hungry and sick she was being sold to whoever had the money to take her away. What a shame some people look at us and only see a value sign written in dollars. My story as you all know was different, but in a sense was also based on money.
Sometimes birds arrive into home with hidden illnesses, but there are a lot that were sold or given away because they were sick and their former owners did not or could not afford the money to have them treated by a Veterinarian. I am asking to see how many of you were outwardly ill when re-homed? How many were being housed in sub-standard, dirty conditions? How many of you were without food, or being given poor, low quality or incorrect foods?
My Momma Deb feels there should be standards set for those who retail Companion Parrots whether a private owner or as a business (Pet Stores, Breeders etc). In general the animal welfare laws of our countries are behind the times, lack sufficient depth to make necessary changes, and fall short in the juridical system. Laws set to protect us many times lead to fines, or a probational period of "owning or possessing an animal." Many of you may recall the tragic murder of Ozzie an CAG in Alberta Canada. Stolen from her front porch and brutally abused her murderers, three teens got away with a crime that united the Parrot World to fight for stiffer sentences, and more explicit laws to be written to protect ALL animals.
Many have shared this month that they have seen sick Companion Parrots sold in Pet Stores. Often when this fact is brought to staffs attention, they shrug it off and do nothing. Few chain stores will spend the money to take an ill bird to a Veterinarian for treatment. After all it effects their profit margin. Many times when an ill bird is pointed out it is removed from the display cage to die alone in the back of the store. Some stores even have made it their "policy" that sick animals, birds included be "humanely" killed by placing it into a box in their freezer. That is not humane, freezing to death, alone in the dark. Some stores have admitted that they are told by "head-office" that this is how they are to treat sick animals in the store.
Bird Channel members are a small group, but we have a voice to cry out for changes. We are not a commodity. We are loving, feeling, sensitive Creatures that deserve respect, care and to be loved for who we are!

Come visit me, SKY, Little Angel, jesse & SWEETIE, Let's talk Parrot for May's BOTM.

  HELLO FROM FINNEGAN
Hi Pretty Jen-Jen,
Don't faint! Yes, it's really me in the feathers. Well, here I am apologizing for being absent again, but Momma says that that’s probably the way it will go all summer and into the fall. Skin brother stayed for a weeklong visit. Yipee! I just love that guy! Momma says she does, too. It’s always so fun to have him around. He makes me laugh! We're expecting quite a bit of company this summer from all the skin sisters, brother and grandkids.

We had our bird club meeting last Sunday. Momma always has to spend Sat. cooking for it ‘cause it’s a yummy potluck. Last Monday Momma took our Goffin’s, Dolly for her visit with Dr. O. in Toledo. That takes up most of a day since it’s an hour and a half drive each way. Dr. O. seems to think that Dolly is improving on her regime of meds. She has ABV and has seizures, but they are improving, and she isn’t having very many anymore.
The weather is getting really nice here and we can be out on our porch everyday now. And guess what? We have baby swans after all! The parents came out on the lake yesterday with their four little cygnets! They are so cute…little tiny gray fluff balls! Just thought you’d like to know. Hope you're having a lovely Memorial Day. Remember our fallen heroes!
Love and Hugs from Finnegan

P.S. Is everybirdie having the same problems we have been having for about a month now? Whenever we click on the votey button, everything below the main pic disappears! This is very frustrating, making it extremely difficult to navigate the pages!

  Hi Jenny Lynn
Today we are remembering those who gave their lives for our country. Mom's parents both served, and mom's brother just brought out a newspaper article from WWII honoring her dad and 3 of his brothers who were all serving. the article mentioned the silver star her dad earned, too.
Folks at the center were busy this weekend. They got the shade cloth over a new enclosure where they will keep more hutches for RVS species like ground hogs and skunks, and built 2 new aviaries to share the same space. The good news is that there's only one groundhog out there right now. She also did outdoor raccoon areas today. After a sweaty morning at the outdoor cages, she put up possum food, did dishes and a little filing before coming home to change for the pool.
The afternoon was glorious, lots of folks at the pool, lots of sunshine as well. Now mom is home where she will water plants if it doesn't rain, take care of us, and make a little dinner. Tomorrow morning mom has an eye appointment, so we will try to get online, but if her eyes are dilated or scratchy, maybe not until late in the day.
I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of sunshine, cuddles, and scritches. Hugs, Falco

  Hi Jenny
It's Popeye.
Dad never got to put the sprinklers out yesterday. Mom needed to clean more cages so dad helped and then the made home made salsa. Then Bob called and wanted to go for Chinese food. Well, that was the end of that day. If you haven't noticed, food takes the top spot in our house. After dinner dad tried to help Bob with some photo cropping but it didn't work so good. Bob wanted to take a small area in a cell phone photo and expand it really big. Dad showed Bob that the expanded area just looked like blotches. After Bob left it was time to tuck us all in for the night.
Today will be clear, with a high of 76 and a low of 57. Dad's going to try for the sprinklers again.
Hope your day is fun.

  On Memorial Day . . .
I watched the flag pass by one day.
It fluttered in the breeze.
A young Marine saluted it,
and then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform
So young, so tall, so proud,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought how many men like him
Had fallen through the years.
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?
How many pilots' planes shot down?
How many died at sea?
How many foxholes were soldiers' graves?
No, freedom isn't free.

I heard the sound of TAPS one night,
When everything was still
I listened to the bugler play
And felt a sudden chill.
I wondered just how many times
That TAPS had meant "Amen,"
When a flag had draped a coffin
Of a brother or a friend.
I thought of all the children,
Of the mothers and the wives,
Of fathers, sons and husbands
With interrupted lives.
I thought about a graveyard
At the bottom of the sea
Of unmarked graves in Arlington.
No, freedom isn't free.

I hope you are having a great Memorial Day weekend. Ours is quiet.

The parronts are not going anywhere or doing anything for tomorrow. Dad will make sure that we put up the flag tomorrow.

The parronts got the trailer wired but when they tried it they had no lights at all. Dad went down a couple of houses to a new neighbor and luckily he was willing to come and see if he could help. He used to help wire trailers so he wired in a new ground and now all the lights are working correctly...yeah! It is nice to have a nice neighbor.

  Hi Jenny
Hello everybirdie, Sweetie here on this Memorial Day long weekend. I again must say I am sorry for missing yesterday but Momma Deb had to visit a very talented Indian Ringneck named Max to clip his nails for his Momma. Problem is to get there was a very long drive across country. Needless to say Max looks great, and to make up for the nail grooming he received a Chuey's Chewable Bird Toy Creations, round peg boards to play with.
Max's Mom had contemplated adding another fid to the household. However after talking to my Momma she has decided to keep on loving Max and an pass on adopting another Parrot. Max is quite spoiled, and very well cared for and love. I doubt he would have been any to happy to see another Companion Parrot moving in on his home territory.
The conversation over lunch drifted to the topic of Parrots of course. Max's Mom had recently watched a television commercial telling people to Adopt! Don't Shop! for a Companion Parrot. She had never seen the commercial before and it caught her off guard, but also made her begin to think. She does not recall the name of the Rescue other then it was in the USA. How wonderful it would be if Rescues could come together to finance, through donations and Corporate sponsors television advertisements or magazine advertisements encouraging Adoption of Parrots over buying from a store/breeder/bird Mart etc. Companies advertise to cause consumers to purchase brand "A" over brand "B". I am certain it would work on potential owners of Companion Parrots in like manner. If even one Parrot was adopted from each Rescue what a difference it could begin to make.
Parrot ownership ( ugh, I dislike that term) is a privilege, not a right. When the World begins to realize this truth, we Parrots will begin to gain the respect we rightfully deserve. Our friendship can not be purchased, forced from us or bullied out of us. We are wild flying Creations that were meant to spend our days being Parrots, not a cage ornament or room accent. While on FB today I saw someone's cool off-handed comment to a Parront who has just lost a fid. Suggesting she buy another to replace her baby. It is sad to think this person is someone who has a bird. Love from a Companion Parrot can not be purchased with all the money in the World. You have to earn it, on our terms.
NOW FOR TODAY'S QUESTION; Please share with us one or two of the hurls you encountered when first bringing home your fid(s). Also how about some of the best, most touching moments as well. The greatest over-coming moment when you just knew you and your Fid were happily bonded for life!

Come visit me, SKY, Little Angel, jesse & SWEETIE, Let's talk Parrot for May's BOTM.

  Hi Jenny Lynn
Yesterday when mom went down to visit with skin brother and family moms DIL gave her some peppermint to plant and some hens and peeps. I never knew you could plant hens and peeps but mom said these arent the kind I am thinking of and they are plants. Mom used to have them a long time ago and had them in the container with holes to grow out of but think its too cold here in the winter and hers died. She will make sure she takes these ones in come winter. DIL peppermint grows like crazy too but mom has hers in a container so hoping it lives and thrives too. “Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, They simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again.“ Goodbye from Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Hi Jenny Lynn
and the wonderful sweet Dallas flock and Uncle Chuck too!
Mom and all of us here can understand you backing off and honoring the passing of family and GI Pals on this day!
We woke up to a bright sunny morning a little chilly the highs for the day of 71 the lows being 55,its 63 right now at 7:00pm.Mom got to feed us our bean mix and clean our cages then got dad his breakfast and made dad his sandwiches for his lunch for the week, and skin sis came over before 10:00am.Then Mom started on cleaning out the TV room closet and had everything pulled off from the shelves and on the TV room floor and then skin bro came in.Mom had two big huge garbage bags and a third one started.Skin bro wanted a haircut so Mom had to stop what she was doing and get the clippers and go outside to cut skin bro's hair, dad was outside mowing the yard and getting the deck furniture up and he got the screens in the storm door and the grill out.We will have a BBQ tomorrow when dad comes home from work! After Mom got done with skin bro's hair he left to go look for some houses with the realtor and Mom and skin sis continued on with the closet. Finally by late afternoon Mom got most of everything out of the shelves and filled one big huge garbage bag for donations and the other huge bag with trash and then there were several smaller bags with more donations.Around 3:30pm Mom stopped to make lunch for everyone and just as she got done making french bread pizza and brought it out to the deck, skin sis's ride came and she had to leave. So Mom packed up her pizza and she took it home with her to eat there.Mom had already taken us all out on the deck to enjoy the sunshine and we had some nice showers too! Then Mom had dad lift all those heavy bags out to the car for her so you could see the room again. After Mom made dinner for dad and got us all cleaned up for the night, she finally got into the TV room again so we could do our blogs. We so hope that tomorrow will be just as nice as today was and that Mom will not be spending the day inside working so we all can enjoy the warm sunshine!
Wishing you a greyt day and I'm sending you all my love along with warm birdie hugs and soft beakie kisses to everyone there from everyone here!Loving you always and forever,Dixie and flock and family!
Happy Memorial Day from all of us here!

Come visit me, Gabbie, Kallie, Peepers & Dixie.

  Hi Jenny Lynn
Yesterday mom found ribs at a good price, and baked them last night so she could cut and freeze individual portions. We don't cook out, because mom is alone and has no need for a grill, so she will barbecue them in the toaster oven at some point. Our neighbor brought corn on the cob, too; today we all got corn! (Well, I got a couple of kernels to see if I would eat them, and the boys and Maxine got slices of corn on the cob to eat.)
The pool opened yesterday. Mom went up for about 3 hours, and got a bit of sun. All her friends who sit in the same spots were there, so they all got caught up on each other's lives. It's funny, they don't see or talk to each other all winter long, but they are still friends.
We have a new iris in bloom, mom thinks it's called wildebeest or gnu or something like that. It's striped purple and white. We'll try for a pic and see if anyone can identify it. Mom doesn't remember where it came from.
Today is a pool day for a couple of hours, then mom has to go to a double birthday party. Her grand nephew and her grand niece are celebrating their 11th and 10th birthdays, respectively. The little girl plays softball, and is pretty busy every weekend, so they decided to combine the parties into one. That's fine with mom, for sure!
I hope you are having a bright sunshiny day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Falco

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Peppino, Divo & Falco.

  Happy Sunday Jen and flock
Yesterday was picture perfect (even if it started out chilly) ! Mom and dad had a great time at the flea market (they didn't bring home any fleas though . . . ) - they came home with a new bathtub for me ! There was a Tupperware lady that mom had talked to in Oct. Mom had told her that I use a sheet cake carrier to bathe in and I had chewed the edges up some. Well, she had one she couldn't sell cause it didn't have a cover for it. She brought it with her hoping mom would be there this weekend ! And then just gave it to her outright ! What a nice human :) Mom also got a really pretty teak parrot - mom will try to post a picture later when she takes the pictures of the planters for aunt Pam. Oh, and a really scary wind chime for the deck - as long as she doesn't hang it near my window ! Daddy ? He got funnel cake !

Today they'll go to the g'parronts to mow and have a cookout . . . hope you have a peaceful Sunday. We know how you love it :) love Cookie

Come visit me, Cookie honoring his g'pa, BC Library Now Open & Fly with the angels my Sally.

We are just staying home this weekend too. Skinsis is in OK at a wedding and having bad weather.
Today was awesome. We had sun and warm temps, I sat by the screen door watching flowers get planted. Looks like most of Sunday will be greyt too. Better grill out early as the rain comes at dinner time.
