I always wanted an African Gray parrot. They are just gorgeous and oh so smart. I purchased Rocket's cage before I purchased him. I kept looking around in stores that sell parrots. Rocket sort of picked me and we have been "Best Buds" ever since! Rocket was the second bird to join our household. His older brother, "Buddy", is a dusky headed conure. Rocket also has a younger sister, "Susan" who is a solomon island eclectus and a younger brother, "Pedro" who is a yellow naped amazon..

Hi! My name is ROCKET....rocking the house!!

I am a Congo African Grey from whiting, NJ.

Rocky, Rock Rock, Rock, Rocket Birdie, Rockers

13 years old   M

Congo African Grey

Rocket likes mashed potatoes, macadamia nuts, cashews, pasta, blueberries, orange slices and whole grain bread with an occasional bit of cheddar cheese. Rocket is not a picky eater at all, and will try most anything.

Rocket likes to hang out on the door of his cage or on the back of a kitchen chair. Rocket also likes to play on his playgym, which is on top of his cage. Rocket loves to invade Pedro's space (cage) when he can. (Pedro is our yellow naped amazon.) Rocket especially likes sneaking into Pedro's cage and eating his food and taking a bath in his water bowl! He loves his evening cuddle time with Mom. Who says Grays aren't cuddly??!!!!

Rocket dislikes unfamiliar items, strange people, and unusual situations; and he doesn't like to share "getting attention" with the other parrots. Rocket is also a coach and relief pitcher for the Bird Channel Wonder Wings baseball team. Rocket doesn't like it when he doesn't get a turn during the games to pitch a few balls. As a coach for the team, he also gets aggravated when he can tell that some of the players have not been practicing! LOL

I love how my owner keeps my cage spic and span clean. She gives me great foods and spends lots of cuddle time with me at night. She is my VERY FAVORITE PERSON. No One else can even touch me!!! You get out of an african gray, what you put into them...and Colleen is my very favorite person!

Rocket enjoys making burping and "gas passing" noises. He imitates the sounds of almost everything in the household that makes some sort of noise. He also immitates everyone in the household's voices, including the other parrot's voices and sounds! He likes to take a bath in Pedro's water dish whenever he has the opportunity to invade his space (cage). (Rocket only has a water bottle in his cage...because he made such a HUGE mess with the water bowl). Who says that CAG's don't like to take baths!! Since having his cage moved right next to Pedro's cage, he has also learned to make the sound of "Pedro making a poop". Rocket likes to do this while I am cleaning Pedro's cage, and he is still in it!! I believe that Rocket thinks that it is funny to watch, when I pull back really fast to avoid being pooped on!!! It took a few times before I caught onto what he was doing!!! Rocket has quite a sense of humor (yes, a parrot can have a sence of humor) and he is also a VERY gifted talker. I have actually had short conversations with him!!! "What are you looking at"???!!!! He is too funny and is the "alpha king parrot" of our flock!.

If you can find a way to get a reaction out of it...just do it! It doesn't matter whether the reaction is a good one or a bad one! ;-) Just as long as you "rattle someone's cage"!!!!!.

  Hi Rocket
well once again its raining. we have had rain 24 out of 29 days the month of june. i have never seen so many mushrooms growing in the yard of every color of the rainbow.
yesterday mom was picking up sticks in the yard whir i was sitting in my cage and mom went to grab a stick and it moved because it was a small blacksnake. from the black snake size mom assumes it could squeeze in between the bars of my outside cage which would cause me to have a heart attack from anxiety if nothing else.

when we first started with the IV fluids for our doggie we were using a higher gauge needle and it was hurting doggie and then afterwards she was bleeding. the vet has now given us a lower gauge needle and it doesn't hurt the doggie and she isn't nearly as upset when we give her the fluids and there isn't any blood now. doggie is much more alert and now drinking on her own. we just got a new food from the vet for doggies with kidney problems from science diet and doggie really likes the food. we will continue with the iv fluids until doggies appointment with vet to check her levels to see how she is doing next thursday.

  Hi Rocket
OUCH ! that bite must have really hurt. if Pedro sees the bandage i bet he will want to bite that also. mom can never wear any nail polish because of Cori who seems to enjoy crushing moms nails whenever she sees any color on the nails. after having 3 nails crushed mom wised up and quit wearing any polish.

we had another full day of rain today. only one day this week when it didn't rain. no thunder and wind so that was good. more rain for tonight tomorrow and saturday. mom and dad are giving doggie fluids iwth a IV line and that is taking up a lot of time. our doggie had quit eating and the vet said it was because she was dehydrated and her electrolytes were off. they wanted to keep doggie for 7 days to administer the fluids but we felt doggie would not do well in a small cage all by herself. last night she peed in her bed and mom went out today and bought her diapers and pee pads in case she has another accident. doggie is now drinking and eating and much more alert but the IV fluids must be given for another week. vet said its possible she might need fluids for the rest of her life.

  HI ROCKET
it rained like crazy here today and then around 3pm the sun came out and was abnormally intense. we got outside for a while. a chipmunk wanted to drink from the fountain but she it saw us sitting on the porch it ran and hid in a clump of flowers.
then mom found a mass of cardinal feathers including the down laying in front of the garage and we figure one of those crazy hawks that are always hovering around must have gotten it. glad we didn't see it happen.

newsflash on the bad budgies. tonight while we were all running around in moms bedroom for playtime the bad budgies once again got into my toys. this time they were playing with the small plastic circles that fit over the plastic tubes. the bad budgie was fiercely pulling the circles off and flinging them everywhere. he flung one circle with great force and hit Piddy Girl right in the head. Piddy Girl made a small cry and flew to her cage. Paddy Cake is a very bad budgie.

HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all the dads.

pennsylvania is having its annual firefly festival next weekend in the Allegheny forest near tionesta. huge crowds of people come from near and far to celebrate and witness a rare species of firefly only found in a very few areas that lite in unison and 15 other species. the festivities begin at noon and then at sundown guided firefly walks are given til midnight, to firefly island where the lightshow is very impressive. sadly because of pesticides fireflies (lightening bugs) are diminishing.

  Hi Rocket
once the crows started yelling mom didn't want to take any chances of having Cori ripped from her shoulder by a hawk or owl or whatever they were yelling at. she's heard stories of hawks diving down and even had a hawk dive down and grabbed a squirrel about 3 feet away from mom. she won't leave me alone in my cage because it seems all the wild birds are very curious about me but moms main concern is that big black snake that lives under the house.

mom had a heck of a time just trying to download picture from her camera to the computer. anyway in the photo gallery are the 2 baby fawns that were sleeping in moms garden. she hasn't seen them for about a month. also if you remember the little bunny that would follow mom around when she was working in the yard from last year. there are still bunnies in the yard but none of them are following mom around.

  Hi Rocket
sorry i haven't been on for a few days. moms been trying to catch up on things she had let slide, computer problems and doggie problems. yesterday mom gave Cori a shower outside with the hose it was in the 90s so mom wanted her to air dry outside. she held her with one hand while she pulled weeds with the other. after about an hour she still hadn't completely dried so she held her directly in the sun and made her flap her wings. while doing this some crows landed in a nearby tree and were yelling and mom figured they had probably spotted a hawk nearby so mom was glad she hadn't set me on the porch while she was distracted with Cori and the weeding. today it was rain on and off with sun shine and tornado warnings tonight with more rain. this morning I sat on the porch with Cori while mom read the sunday paper then mom took Cori inside and continued doing more weeding. she felt i was safer since she was weeding right by the porch. i was pretty quiet today while lots of birds were flying around in the yard.

its been raining steadily since dinnertime. the tv keeps saying go run to your cellar because of tornado warning but we don't have a cellar. anyway we aren't in the direct path. the sound of the steady patter of rain on the roof is very soothing

HAPPY HUMPDAY

Something To Make You Smile

An old man lay sprawled across three entire seats in the movie theater. When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the old man, "Sorry sir, but you're only allowed one seat."

The old man didn't budge.

The usher became more impatient. "Sir, if you don't get up from there I'm going to have to call the manager."

Once again, the old man just muttered and did nothing.

The usher marched briskly back up the aisle, and in a moment he returned with the manager.

Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move the old disheveled man, but with no success.

Finally they summoned the police.

The officer surveyed the situation briefly then asked, "All right buddy what's your name?"

"Fred," the old man moaned.

"Where you from, Fred?" asked the police officer.

With a terrible strain in his voice, and without moving, Fred replied;

"The balcony"…….

  Hi Rocket
it was a beautiful day today. mom didn't get to take Cori outside because my frother and his girlfriend came by to help pull out some weeds so mom felt the need to work right along with them. Bit of course I got to stay on the porch since mom was working right by . tonight was a nightmare for Cori. mom decided to work on her lower beak which just keeps getting longer and longer. Cori put up quite a battle. mom finally jammed a pencil in her beak to prevent any more crushing bites to her fingers and keep her tongue out of the way. she got off about 1/4 inch which is a lot. then she trimmed the upper beak a little bit and told her she look beautiful. i am glad mom didn't start working on me

I had the best time on the porch and a beautiful blue jay even flew over to check me out but mom waved it away.it kind of scared me because it was so huge compared to me.

HAPPY TGIF DAY
a branch fell and broke the ear off of a cement bunny statue in the yard so mom decided to fix it today. she bought this new glue called tiger bond that is suppose to fix anything. mom was holding the ear on the bunny waiting for it to set and she saw this huge spider come running across the porch towards her. the spider jumped on the statue and was about 1 inch from moms hand. mom tried blowing on it to make it leave and it stuck up 2 arms and waved at her. mom then picked up a cloth to remove the excess glue and tried to wave the spider away. when she picked up the cloth the ear fell off and the spider jumped right in the glue. mom grabbed the ear and quickly reattached it to the statue and the spider just sat there on the bunny. mom then tried to brush the spider off while she held the ear on but the spider wouldn't leave. mom then turned the statue upside down so the weight of the body would hold the ear in place. at that point the spider meandered away. there should be a warning on the glue that says spiders are really attracted to this glue.

Q: what do you call a bee who is having a bad hair day?
A: A Frizbee

mom put Cori in the lilac bush again and me in my outdoor cage.she noticed a big round thing laying in the yard. and walked over to inspect it. it was a birds nest laying there. it was very well made with twigs tightly woven on the bottom and the middle had plastic bubble wrap woven into hardened mud. on top of that were more tightly woven twigs. the nest itself wasn't damaged and must have fallen out of a tree. there were no egg shells or baby feathers or anything laying around it so hopefully no eggs had been layed yet or if they had it was long before it fell and everyone hatched and grew up.

  Hi Rocket
Oslo the Norwegian capital has inaugurated the world's first 'bumble bee highway' a corridor through the city with pollen stations every 250 meters.
“The idea is to create a route through the city with enough feeding stations for the bumblebees all the way,” ”Enough food will also help the bumblebees withstand manmade environmental stress better.” Bumblebees and other pollinating insects struggle in urban environments where there are few flowers rich in nectar, effectively starving them. flowerpots were placed on rooftops and balconies along a route from east to west through the city.

During the last few years, bees, bumblebees and other insects have suffered, with many colonies dying out, causing damage to agriculture that depends on the insects. Although Norway is not as hard hit as the US, six out of 35 Norwegian bumblebee species are close to extinction.

Oslo's municipality is co-operating with environmental organisations, the public, and and companies, who are asked to plant bumblebee friendly flowers on their property. To help the insects along, the organisation BiBy (Bee Town) has created an app, where the public can see the “grey areas”, long stretches with no food for bees, in order to encourage the planting of flowers in areas that don’t have nearby parks.
“It will be easy to see barriers and obstacles on the map. The goal is to inspire people to fill these gaps.”The public will also be able to upload pictures of their projects to improve the situation for bees and bumblebees, such as flowerpots and bee hotels.”Some bee species like to live in solitary rooms. They need small hollows like a crack in an old tree trunk. It’s very important to have some old wood lying around,”

mom finally put my outdoor cage on the porch today. then instead of taking me outside she was working on the fountain again and trying to plant a few flowers. mom said i wouldn't have been happy anyway because the neighbor has been using a jackhammer all weekend and making quite a racket.

the bee populations has now decreased another 40 percent this year and Pennsylvania is one of the worst bee declining states at a 60 percent decline. the chemical companies are denying their toxic pesticides are killing bees and are now working on a pesticide to kill the mites that are infesting the bees. the chemical companies say loss of pollen producing flowers are causing the decline which the chemical companies make toxic weed killers to kill.

  Hi Rocking Rocket
i am having fun collecting honey. i am learning so many things about bees. i thought their fur was soft but it actually very briistly, like a brush when they rub up against me so it feels like i am having my feathers brushed.

it turned into a nice day today but mom never got me outside today. she picked up a few things at the grocery store and stopped off at the plant nursery to buy a few plants. things are really expensive so mom didn't buy much. when she got home and was putting the groceries away the ups guy arrived in a u=haul truck and had the big fountain mom had ordered on amazon.com. mom had a heck of a time getting it out of the box and assembled but its just the right size for where she wanted to put it. then after mom put it in the spot it needed some plants so mom had to dig up some forget- -me- not plants that had traveled on their own and were growing under the hedge. after she planted them they wilted but mom is hoping by tomorrow with plenty of water they will perk up. mom was covered in mosquitoes while she was working. then after all that the guys came to mow the lawn. after thy were done it was time for dinner. it was suppose to rain all day and this evening but instead a raindrop fell here and there and didn't do anything. mom doesn't feel like spending much money on plants since the mom deer will probably teach her twins to eat everything

haven't been on bird channel for a few days because our doggie has been having lots of problems and our dad is going out of his mind. mom has been cooking special meals for doggie 4Xs a day. then vet said doggie was having a acute pancreatic attack and not to feed at all. then other vet said feed doggie it was not pancreas but gallbladder. then third vet said don't know what the problem is just give her these medicines so she isn't in pain or nauseous. this is all after sonogram and blood work. dad has all the vets working with each other trying to figure out what is going on. doggie is very happy she is getting her special meals.

mom has been trying to work outside. today mom deer came back with her2 twin fawns. saw mom standing in her garden and did a little snort and a buck.both twins ran different directions. they are twice the size they were a week ago. mom deer went after one fawn and other fawn met them both on the side of the yard. they then ran through the hedge and into the neighbors yard across the street.

the mom did come back for her fawns. its a good thing because all our mom could do was stand there watching them all day and evening. then she put the spotlights on from the house so she would see the mom come. then she didn't see the mom so she went outside to check on the fawns and there was the mom standing there so mom went back in the house and turned off the spotlights so the would have privacy in the dark. mom now feels very sad that they are gone. today she checked everywhere to see if they are still around but they aren't or if they are they are hiding in a good spot which is just as well because if mom found them she would be outside watching them all day again. mom will try and load the pictures. she is having trouble with the computer. the fawns were the size of cocker spaniels so they must not have been very old.

tonight mom went out again to see if the babies were around and the yard was full of bunnies hoping in every direction.

Queen Boo Boo yells "OH No" and Cookie leaps into the air like super bird and catches the box of bees midair and gently places them on the ground. everybody gathers around the box and Queen Boo Boo makes a tiny hole in the box so she can see the bees. the bees aren't happy and they don't know what is going on but they aren't angry either.Queen Boo Boo hunts for the Queen Honey Bee to place her in the hive first. Willie says let me see and spots the tiny Bee wearing a tiny crown so he knows its the Queen Bee. Raffiremoves the middle trays on the super and Queen Boo Boo ever so gently picks the small Queen Bee up and places her in the middle of the hive. Pearl and Silver who are dressed in appropriate bee gear gently spray the little girl honey bees with sugar water to relax them before Sam I Am gently shakes them into the middle of the hive with their queen. Pearl & Silver then very gently start placing the removed trays back into the hive being careful not to hurt or crush any of the bees. Kaji & Lizzie seal up all the entrances to the hive until the bees become adjusted to their new home.this will also keep predators out of the hive until the bees are strong enough to defend it. in the meantime Queen Boo Boo needs volunteers to come and spray the bees with the syrup until they are strong enough to go find flowers. this has been quite exciting and amazingly nobody was stung even though some of them had been a little worried. they all listen to the happy buzz of the honey bees and know they will fit in perfectly at the royal birdy castle. Queen Boo Boo says and the best part is we will now have fresh organic honey.tonight we celebrate the royal guards dressed as bees standing at attention while Lizzie unfolds a outdoor table loaded with all kinds of honey candy, honey cookies, honey cake, honey wax to chew, honey for your tea or booze whatever you prefer, plus honey based skin creams. there also is a table set with the finest royal china.whatever you

  Hi Rocket
wing and leeds him around the birdy castle garden and explains all about the honey bee queen and bees they will be getting soon. Queen Boo Boo Bought them on ebay. first we had to find good spots for the hives. we have built these boxes called supers for the bees. the opening must face the south east so the honey bees can get the early sunlight. the supers are protected from the harsh winds blowing from the north and northwest with plenty of shrubs like forsythia, ilex and juniper. we dont want the little honey bees to get too cold or too hot so we are placing the supers under shade trees so that they get dappled sunlight and not full or direct sunlight. first we built a base with cinder blocks and then surrounded that wit pretty brick so it looks nice. then the super is built with layers of board and planks in a box. we can add on to it as the hive gets bigger but for now its best to go with small. i am very excited about the bees arrival and hope you will be here at the castle when we release them. it will be so much fun. i have to check with UPS to find out the expected shipping date

  Hi Rocket
one more thing about spiders……... Spiders

You should always keep a spider
At least one in every room
Give them a little corner
With an offering of food

They'll spin away at night
And they'll hunt for you by day
Keeping your house clean of pest's
In their very special way

So do not go hard with insect spray
When bluebottle's and flies come your way
Remember the little spider's
Who hide themselves away

  Hi Rocket
Every day, animals are put into critical danger when their natural habitats are jeopardized by human activity. Together, we can protect the one earth we all rely on.

I am the Earth
And the Earth is me.
Each blade of grass,
Each honey tree,
Each bit of mud,
And stick and stone
Is blood and muscle,
Skin and bone.

And just as I
Need every bit
Of me to make
My body fit,
So Earth needs
Grass and stone and tree
And things that grow here
Naturally.

That’s why we
Celebrate this day.
That’s why across
The world we say:
As long as life,
As dear, as free,
I am the Earth
And the Earth is me. ?
HAPPY EARTH DAY

  Hi Rocket
CONCLUSION ON SPIDERS
Cellar spiders which have super long legs like daddy long legs (which are not spiders) love to eat ants. if you have those tiny tiny little ants running around in your house cellar spiders will eat all of them.
3. Antarctica is the only continent in the world where you will absolutely not find a spider. There are creatures who live there like whales and penguins, but people and spiders stay away from the Antarctica lifestyle. because arthropods like to keep their butts warm, just like humans do.
4. Spiders possess shyness as a personality trait just like people .Spiders, even large ones like tarantulas, are docile in nature. Most spiders are inherently shy critters. They get squished more often than they actually bite humans. Spiders will defend themselves in rare cases, but these buggies mostly get scared and hide in the presence of danger.Because of their shyness they ALMOST NEVER seek out humans to bite. When spiders and humans come in contact, it is usually when they are looking for warmth or just happen to be seeking out food and we bump into each other.
5. Although we have all the eyes that we need, both spiders and humans rely on our other senses. You would think having eight eyes would be all the eyes that you need to see perfectly, but for most spiders that is not the case. Nearly all spiders have eight simple eyes, but having six more peepers than us, doesn’t make their vision any more superior since most arachnids have poor eyesight. On average, over six out of 10 people need to wear glasses or contact lenses, making our visual impairments almost identical to that of spiders. Instead, both spiders and people depend on our other senses, like sound, taste and touch, to help us survive. Nobody’s perfect; not people with two eyes nor arthropods with a whopping eight.

it is a pain to remove all those webs, mainly because they gather so much dust but consider letting spiders be or releasing them back outside the next time you see arachnid amigos in your home. plus i find them quite tasty

  Hi Rocket
the more spiders we have around the less chance for the need of any poisonous insecticides.for the next 2 days i would like to talk about SPIDERS. my mom and Cori are very afraid of them but would never hurt one .Spiders are one of our most misunderstood creatures. There are movies about them taking over your house, they are depicted in autumn decorations designed to scare people, but spiders are just like us. From our mutual disdain for mosquitoes and some species tend to their young, we have a lot in common with this arachnid . Plus, We need spiders in order to survive. Before you squash that spider that you just spied crawling across your floor, consider these five fascinating facts about these eight-leggers.
1. Mother spiders stay with their babies, just like we do.Almost all spider moms protect their young by creating a safe “blanket” made of silk to cover them with and then guard the sac until hatching. The moms that don’t leave or die before their babies hatch will stay with their wee spiderlings and care for them. The wolf spider, who is known as super-spider-mom, will carry the egg sac with her until her tots hatch. Once the wolf spider babies are born, they climb onto mom’s back and ride along until they are full developed. They survive by eating the yolk from their egg sacs. The wolf spider babies go everywhere that mama goes, including during her hunting. If a baby falls off of her back, she will halt what she’s doing and wait for the little bugger to hop back on. Comb-footed spider mamas also stay with their little ones and feed their offspring with liquid from their mouths. This all sounds a bit like attachment parenting.
2. We have the same archenemy: the mosquito. over one million people die each year due to mosquito-borne illnesses? There are 10 major diseases that are caused by these little buzzers, including Malaria and the West Nile virus. Well, our friend the spider eats those pesky pests. In fact, certain spider species, like the Malaysian jumping spider, get their nutrition solely from mosquitoes. Another jumping spider from Africa is known to eat mosquitoes exclusively, unlike most spiders who eat mosquitoes and other insects. Spiders are also known to stalk mosquitoes like cats

  HI ROCKET
SOME SAD NEWS:
New data from the highly secretive arm of the U.S. Agriculture Department known as Wildlife Services reveals it killed more than 2.7 million animals during fiscal year 2014, including wolves, coyotes, bears, mountain lions, beavers, foxes, eagles and other animals deemed pests by powerful agricultural, livestock and other special interests.Despite increasing calls for reform after the program killed more than 4 million animals in 2013, the latest kill report indicates the reckless slaughter of wildlife continues, including 322 gray wolves, 61,702 coyotes, 580 black bears, 305 mountain lions, 796 bobcats, 454 river otters, 2,930 foxes, three bald eagles, five golden eagles and 22,496 beavers. The program also killed 15,698 black-tailed prairie dogs and destroyed more than 33,309 of their dens.

“It’s sickening to see these staggering numbers and to know that so many of these animals were cut down by aerial snipers, deadly poisons and traps,” said Amy Atwood, a senior attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity. “These acts of brutality are carried out every day, robbing our landscapes of bears, wolves, coyotes and other animals that deserve far better. Wildlife Services does its dirty work far from public view and clearly has no interest in cleaning up its act.”Agency insiders have revealed that the agency kills many more animals than it reports.

Many animals – especially wolves, coyotes and prairie dogs – were targeted and killed on behalf of livestock grazers or other powerful agricultural interests. Wildlife Services does not reveal how many animals were wounded or injured, but not killed.
The new data also show that hundreds animals were killed unintentionally including 390 river otters, as well as hundreds of badgers, black bears, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, jackrabbits, muskrats, raccoons, skunks, opossums, porcupines and 16 pet dogs.

The data show that the federal program has refused to substantially slow its killing despite a growing public outcry, an ongoing investigation by the Agriculture Department’s inspector general, and calls for reform by scientists, members of Congress and nongovernmental organizations.“Wildlife Services continues to thumb its nose at the growing number of Americans demanding an end to business as usual,” said Atwood. “This appalling and completely unnecessary extermination of American wildlife must stop.”Just since 1996 Wildlife Services has shot, poisoned and strangled by snare more than 27 million native animals.

i didn't get to go outside yesterday. mom messed up on the blogs. she was tired and didn't proof read it and somehow included Coris blog in mine. i don't wear a harness and always go outside in my cage and mom sits there with me and reads the paper or a book. good news that Jenny Lynn is allowed back on bird channel but not until May.

the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced a plan to kill 16,000 double-crested cormorants who it believes need to die simply because they eat fish. The Army Corps plan on targeting cormorants on East Sand Island, which is located near the mouth of the Columbia River. The spot is considered an important point for migrating salmon, but it’s also an important nesting site for cormorants and a variety of other birds.

The island is home to the largest double-crested cormorant colony in the west, the largest Brown Pelican roost in the Pacific Northwest and the largest Caspian Tern colony in the world. It has also been designated as an internationally recognized Important Bird Area by both the Audubon Society and the American Bird Conservancy.Bird and wildlife advocates raised serious concerns that the proposal was cruel, wasteful and pointless, and used these birds as scapegoats for problems affecting salmon that are caused by humans – namely dams and habitat loss. The plan could have dire unintended consequences for cormorants who may be doing well on the island, but aren’t thriving elsewhere, which could push them towards needing endangered species protection.

Criticism brought by researchers from Oregon State University who were hired by the Army Corps to study the bird population on the island. They say the Army Corps ignored their findings and isn’t using the best available science in its plan to protect young salmon.Despite widespread opposition from the public and scientific community, the Army Corps announced it has finalized its decision to reduce the number of cormorants targeted, but will still kill nearly 11,000 of them and destroy more than 26,000 of their nests to reduce their numbers by more than half. They still have to get permits from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to begin, bringing in contractors from the notorious Wildlife Services to start the killing this spring.A lawsuit could shut down the plan and save cormorants from this massive slaughter. The Audubon Society of Portland announced its Board of Directors has voted to sue both the Army Corps and the FWS if permits are granted.

  Hi Rocket
Remwmber my April Fools day letter stating all chemical company CEOs are aliens intent on destroying the earth as we now know it?
Right before Our Eyes
It would be unbelievable. If it weren’t true.
Just 15 days after the World Health Organization said that glyphosate, the key ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, is a probable human carcinogen, our friends at the EPA signed off on additional uses of a new herbicide containing glyphosate. Dow’s Enlist Duo, concocted from a deadly mix of 2,4-D and glyphosate, can now be used in nine additional states. That makes 16 states whose citizens will be directly exposed to more glyphosate (with a dash of 2,4-D, a chemical used to make Agent Orange).

Dow rejoiced at the news. And immediately said it would seek approval of the product in even more states.

This is what we’re up against. Corporations willing to poison everything in sight

yeah we have lots of activity going on in our yard also. lots of birds flying around checking out all the bird houses. the big storm the other night knocked one down but luckily no one was in it yet. the yard is full of bunnies.

he kitty is feeling much better today. he is over 15 and does pretty good for his age. no more diarreah or vomit and he is eating and drinking. mom is thinking maybe there was something wrong with the can of cat food she had given him because the other cat just slept most of the day and was very quiet. today they are much more alert. mom quit giving them their yearly vaccinations because she has found older cats don't handle them well at all. the vets don't like this but have told mom on the side that they don't vaccinate their older cats either especially since they don't go outside or have contact with other cats. mom swears vaccinations killed her last 2 balinese cats even though they lived to be 17 & 18.

all the blogs disappear. its making it very hard to talk to our friends. it does seem that BC is slowly starting to come back so we shall see how it goes

there is a developer who is building these extremely ugly and expensive super giant houses on a former farm right below our house. all their utilities are underground with the latest fiber optic equipment. our neighborhood has regular telephone poles and this new equipment is wrecking havoc on us. comcast says they can't find a problem but every time this developer starts with the underground cables for his plan, which we call the pit since it is below us and the developer removed every tree and shrub and the idiots who are buying these houses are not planting any, we have sporadic if at all cable service and our lights are now flickering.

today mom woke up to find our older cat foaming at the mouth and covered covered in poo on his hind end and legs and vomit and diarrhea all over the bedroom. mom gave him a bath and blow dried him and he was not happy. then she cleaned up the mess. she took away all water and food and started giving him 6cc of pedialyte every hour. he hasn't made any more diarreah and made a solid poo the size of a jelly bean. tonight he ate a small amount of cat food and is now sleeping.
