I always wanted an African Gray parrot. They are just gorgeous and oh so smart. I purchased Rocket's cage before I purchased him. I kept looking around in stores that sell parrots. Rocket sort of picked me and we have been "Best Buds" ever since! Rocket was the second bird to join our household. His older brother, "Buddy", is a dusky headed conure. Rocket also has a younger sister, "Susan" who is a solomon island eclectus and a younger brother, "Pedro" who is a yellow naped amazon..

Hi! My name is ROCKET....rocking the house!!

I am a Congo African Grey from whiting, NJ.

Rocky, Rock Rock, Rock, Rocket Birdie, Rockers

13 years old   M

Congo African Grey

Rocket likes mashed potatoes, macadamia nuts, cashews, pasta, blueberries, orange slices and whole grain bread with an occasional bit of cheddar cheese. Rocket is not a picky eater at all, and will try most anything.

Rocket likes to hang out on the door of his cage or on the back of a kitchen chair. Rocket also likes to play on his playgym, which is on top of his cage. Rocket loves to invade Pedro's space (cage) when he can. (Pedro is our yellow naped amazon.) Rocket especially likes sneaking into Pedro's cage and eating his food and taking a bath in his water bowl! He loves his evening cuddle time with Mom. Who says Grays aren't cuddly??!!!!

Rocket dislikes unfamiliar items, strange people, and unusual situations; and he doesn't like to share "getting attention" with the other parrots. Rocket is also a coach and relief pitcher for the Bird Channel Wonder Wings baseball team. Rocket doesn't like it when he doesn't get a turn during the games to pitch a few balls. As a coach for the team, he also gets aggravated when he can tell that some of the players have not been practicing! LOL

I love how my owner keeps my cage spic and span clean. She gives me great foods and spends lots of cuddle time with me at night. She is my VERY FAVORITE PERSON. No One else can even touch me!!! You get out of an african gray, what you put into them...and Colleen is my very favorite person!

Rocket enjoys making burping and "gas passing" noises. He imitates the sounds of almost everything in the household that makes some sort of noise. He also immitates everyone in the household's voices, including the other parrot's voices and sounds! He likes to take a bath in Pedro's water dish whenever he has the opportunity to invade his space (cage). (Rocket only has a water bottle in his cage...because he made such a HUGE mess with the water bowl). Who says that CAG's don't like to take baths!! Since having his cage moved right next to Pedro's cage, he has also learned to make the sound of "Pedro making a poop". Rocket likes to do this while I am cleaning Pedro's cage, and he is still in it!! I believe that Rocket thinks that it is funny to watch, when I pull back really fast to avoid being pooped on!!! It took a few times before I caught onto what he was doing!!! Rocket has quite a sense of humor (yes, a parrot can have a sence of humor) and he is also a VERY gifted talker. I have actually had short conversations with him!!! "What are you looking at"???!!!! He is too funny and is the "alpha king parrot" of our flock!.

If you can find a way to get a reaction out of it...just do it! It doesn't matter whether the reaction is a good one or a bad one! ;-) Just as long as you "rattle someone's cage"!!!!!.

HAPPY TGIF DAY
vulture populations are plummeting in Africa
Africa's eight vulture species have declined in number by an average of 62 percent during the last 30 years. vultures are one of nature's most important scavengers—a flock can strip a carcass in a matter of minutes.these natural recyclers, which breed slowly and need years to mature, could be extinct in Africa in the next 50 to 100 years.

poisoning from eating pesticide-laced carcasses caused as many as 60 percent of the vulture deaths recorded since the 1970s.When a large predator such as a lion kills livestock, a farmer will sometimes sprinkle poison on the carcass to kill the predator in retaliation, Vultures usually get to the corpse first. They die after eating the pesticide-laced carcasses intended for lions and other predators. Pesticides are poorly regulated in Africa, and sold as "lion killer" . many farmers don't know what the chemicals are really used for.vultures have largely disappeared from commercial farming areas where pesticide are used

Vultures often collide with the wind turbines and are crushed or are electrocuted by power lines

Vultures are also also targets for poachers, who sell their parts to people who use witchcraft. The birds are known for their tremendous eyesight, and many believe their body parts can be used to see into the future.Their brains are ground to snuff by witch doctors who believe the substance has magical powers.

The scavengers also die after feeding on carcasses left behind by poachers. Illegal hunters poison the corpses to throw off law enforcement, which use circling vultures as a beacon for illegal activity.500 dead vultures were found surrounding a pesticide-laden elephant carcass poachers had poisoned leaving the bodies to rot. terrorists groups are profiting the most from poaching affording them lucrative profits to buy guns and bombs

  Hi Rocket
Michael Vick has just been signed with the steelers football team.

Vick served 21 months in federal prison after he admitted in 2007 that he had operated a dog fighting ring at a farm he owned in Virginia.
Vick admitted in 2007 to keeping dozens of dogs for a dog fighting ring. Federal authorities say many were badly abused and some brutally executed
Federal authorities seized 70 dogs, mostly pit bulls. Many of them showed signs of severe neglect and abuse. Authorities allege he and his friends had brutally executed several other dogs

the disgraced NFL quarterback also neglected his pet birds, allowing one to starve to death and another to go without food and water.
Vick left one exotic bird in its cage to die of starvation and nearly allowed a second to succumb to the same fate. Vick, he had a beautiful pet bird named Junior that he allowed the roam around his mansion.'Mike decided that the home he lived in at the time was too small for someone of his stature purchased a home in the same neighborhood that was more suitable to the growing size of his bank account,'
Weeks later, after he moved into the new house the star football player at his new Atlanta mansion, but Junior the bird was nowhere to be found.
he hadn’t moved everything out of the old house and when he went back over there to check on things, Junior was still there and in his bird cage, dead'
'They had treated Junior like he was just another piece of furniture that they could just set aside and move at a later date.Vick said because he was an Atlanta Falcon player, fans were always trying to give him birds, and so Junior was no big loss.'
a second bird, a Cockatoo called Crystal, was in its cage without food or water at his home. the bird was later adopted even though Vick told her he wanted it back when he got out of prison.

  Hi Rocket
The bee-harming pesticides we've been fighting for years are worse than we imagined. Research suggests that neonicotinoids aren't just decimating bee colonies -- they're hurting birds too. Researchers found that in areas with high concentrations of neonicotinoids, bird populations declined every year. This means our worst fears are coming true -- neonicotinoids may be moving up the food chain and killing our birds and our bees.
For the sake of the birds, the bees, and the whole food chain, we are challenging one of the biggest neonicotinoids producers of them all: Bayer. It's not just the bees anymore. Neonicotinoids are killing our birds too. It's time to get Bayer to stop producing these chemicals. We already knew that bees, insects, and small creatures that consume neonics are facing a decline in population. Bayer's neonicotinoids are even more harmful: Birds that eat food that consumed neonics are dying too. researchers searched extensively for any other outside cause that could account for the declines: urbanization, other environmental factors, land use changes. They couldn't find one. The only plausible explanation? Bee-harming neonicotinoids. Bayer is trying to write off this scientific study. Because for companies like Bayer, profits trump saving our food chain. By speaking up, we're changing the equation for these companies and making sure they protect the bees. Here's the scary part about all this: until more research is done, there's no way to tell how far up the food chain neonics can reach.major American retailers Home Depot and Lowe's have stop selling neonics. Bayer's lawsuit against the EU for banning this chemical is being challanged-- over a million of us have spoken out against the lawsuit. We've made a lot of progress together, but we're far from done.

  Hi Rocket
HAPPY TGIF DAY
every spring and early summer we hear birds singing at about 3am. mom never knew why they were singing until she found out they were whip-poor-wills

the Eastern Whip-poor-will is rarely seen due to its excellent camouflage. This member of the nightjar family is named for its haunting, onomatopoeic song, which has inspired folk legends and artists from Robert Frost to Elton John. the nightly chorus of “whips” is heard less and less often each spring as forests are lost to agriculture and development. Since Whip-poor-wills often forage close to roads, they are also vulnerable to collisions with cars. Declines in their prey from pollution and pesticide use have also affected this insect-eating bird.

One New England legend says the Whip-poor-will can sense a person's soul departing, and capture it as it leaves. Native American lore considered the singing of these birds a death omen. The only things whips actually capture are insects. They are consummate aerial foragers, consuming large quantities of beetles, moths, and other insects each night — a process that is aided by a large, wide mouth, or “gape.” Strictly nocturnal, the birds are most active at dawn and dusk and on bright, moonlit nights.

Eastern Whip-poor-wills nest on the ground in a scrape of dead leaves, usually laying two eggs at a time. They sit tight on the nest and will rarely flush unless almost stepped upon.the hatching of Whip-poor-will chicks appears to be closely tied to the lunar cycle: Most hatch a few days before a full moon. This strategy may have evolved to allow the adult birds to forage all night during the full moon, enabling them to catch enough insects to support their chicks.

Eastern Whip-poor-will populations have experienced steep declines, and the species was one of several added to the 2014 State of the Birds Watch List.

  Hi Rocket
my last little tidbit from the 1500's
England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people, so they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a bone-house and reuse the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realised they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, thread it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the graveyard shift) to listen for the bell; thus someone could be, ''Saved by the Bell ''or was considered a ''Dead Ringer'' And that's the truth. Whoever said history was boring ! ! !

moms kind of exhausted dealing with the cat problem especially after going through so much with our doggie and dad isn't making it easy for mom to deal with them. the vet siad it might take up to 5 weeks for the prozac to work. not sure at this point which cat or if both of them are peeing everywhere. still waiting for the test results for the female mom spent the day with a ultra violet light she bought on amazon finding all the pee spots and cleaning them. at ;east she got us outside today for a little while as she read the paper on the porch. the little rain we had cleared out the high humidity and it turned sunny with a nice breeze so it turned into a pretty day

  Hi Rocket
we had a heck of a time trying to get on bird channel tonight

more true facts from the 1500's

Houses had thatched roofs, thick straw piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and fall off the roof. Hence the saying "It's raining cats and dogs." There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom, where bugs and other droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence. The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying, "dirt poor." The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance. Hence: a thresh hold.

ps. if you bath your birds with a spray bottle make sure you thoroughly wash the bottle out with soap and water after each use. mold can grow in the bottle and cause damage to your birds feathers and health

  Hi Rocket
Here are some facts about the 1500’s:

Most people got married in June, because they took their yearly bath in May and they still smelled pretty good by June. However, since they were starting to smell, brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odour. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose
someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water!"

i take 4 or 5 baths a day so i am never stinky

Some birds stash unopened seeds for use later. But how do they know which seeds are worth the trouble, before expending the energy to open them?

Jays Identify Good Nuts by Shaking Them

a team of scientists In a series of experiments presented jays with ten peanut shells that had been emptied of their nuts and resealed — and ten peanut shells with nuts inside. the jays preferred the shells that had nuts in them.

In the next experiment, all the shells had nuts in them — but some had one and some had three. This time, the jays preferred the three-nut shells. Further research suggested that the jays also preferred heavier shells over those that had the same number of nuts in them, but weighed less.

Using slow-motion cameras, researchers saw that the birds were shaking the nuts in their beaks to assess their weight and possibly also listening for the nuts rattling. In other words, jays use the same kinds of sensory cues that we do when we choose a melon in the supermarket.

mom hasn't found any new pee spots from the cat. he is fighting her tooth and nail over getting his meds. mom finally decided to take a break today and go to the pool because it was 87 and sunny outside. she gets to the pool and decided to go into the water and suddenly an announcement is made that the pool will be closed for an hour do to a doody spotted floaing in it. it seems every time mom has gone to the pool it is closed because of floating doodies. mom got so hot sitting there she came home.

later in the afternoon mom had us out on the porch and was amazed at seeing 4 hummingbirds fighting over the nectar feeder. she also has a feeder in the back and they were flying around there also. for the past few years mom has only seen 1 lone hummingbird at the feeder.

I had the best time outside today. there was a cardinal family and a blue jay family flying around in the yard. I called out to them over and over but they were all busy with their families. mom had a hard time bringing me into the house because she wanted to be outside but mom had to get dinner and doesn't want to leave me alone.

the old vet practice had avian vets not the one mom went to yesterday. they recommended a avian vet so mom will have to call them when she needs them. in the meantime she will go down and get all our bird records from the vet that excommunicated us. the vet today told mom most of the kitties problems are because of old age like atrophying kidneys. will not know all until results come back from the lab on blood and urine. other than that the cat appears healthy and might very well be acting out because his best friend our doggie is no longer with us. well the vet called again today and told mom to bring our other cat in for shots. she also is sending out the tests for the other cat because she has questions about the lab results so he is on a probiotic and clavamox and a new kidney diet. total bill for 2 days at the vet $500.no wonder mom is always broke both cats are doing well tonight. its really a pain getting pills and antibiotics down the sick kitty. mom wraps him up like a burrito so he can't struggle as much. moms day was ruined when a older woman asked mom in the grocery store if she was 80. mom knows she looks older especially when she sees herself in the mirror but she didn't know she looked that old. she told the woman at the vets office about what the woman said to her as she picked up 2 cases of cat food her cat in the carrier and her purse and the vet tech told mom not bad for some one who is 80 and they both laughed.

today is world elephant day. Poaching has reached unprecedented levels, which some believe could wipe elephants out entirely within the next 10 years if it continues at its current rate. a few things you can do to celebrate elephants .1.dont buy ivory. 2 support elephant sanctuaries. our last name is Gelfand which translated means elephant.

our old male cat is continuing to pee randomly in the house. mom made an appointment with the vet for tomorrow to see whats going on. about 4 hours later the vet called and said all animals from the gelfand family are banned from the office because of a disagreement dad had with the vet over treatment of our late doggie. mom made an appointment with another vet office for tomorrow so problem solved.

on the way to another vet to buy harrisons bird pellets there was a tremendous traffic jam because a DHL truck had flipped over. there were about 3 ambulances, 10 police cars, towing trucks and various other cars trying to help. once again nothing about it on the news.

  Hi Rocket
HAPPY TGIF DAY
n the dog days of summer, birds seem to disappear—the dawn chorus wanes and an odd silence takes hold . The birds are still there, they’re just keeping a low profile, because they’re replacing their feathers.

After breeding, the molting season kicks in. Molt is the systematic replacement of feathers. Birds have to molt in order to survive, because feathers wear out from physical abrasion and bleaching from the sun. Once a year birds grow an entirely new set of feathers through a complete molt. As birds grow new flight feathers, they are particularly vulnerable. During wing molt, several of their feathers will be less than full length, producing gaps in their wings, so they are not as maneuverable or powerful in flight. To minimize attracting the attention of predators, many birds tend to vocalize infrequently and hide in vegetation. Birds in heavy molt tend to be scruffy overall

eastern songbirds begin replacing their flight and body feathers shortly after their young fledge. They tend to undergo this complete molt on or near their breeding grounds, migrating south after they have a new set of feathers.
western songbirds begin their migration south a bit before molting. Western summers can be extremely dry and desolate so western songbirds begging their migration south before molting. so many species go to the Mexican Monsoon region to molt where monsoon rains brings an abundance of insects on which to feed. After molting, they continue farther south to their wintering grounds. For ravens, a molt can take up to six months. For smaller birds, closer to two. But they can still fly. waterbirds like ducks and loons molt all of their flight feathers at once. As a result, they’re earthbound and vulnerable to predators for a month or more — until their full suite of feathers has been completely restored. Brightly colored male ducks grow a special set of camouflaged feathers, called eclipse plumage which are mostly brown, like they’re all females.until wing feathers have regrown and they are able to fly again.

  Hi Rocket
HAPPY HUMPDAY

An adult songbird flies in toward its nest, carrying a beakful of fresh insects for its chicks. A moment later, out pops the adult carrying a tiny white pouch in its bill Still on the wing, it drops the object into the vegetation below.

That outgoing payload was a fecal sac, a remarkable adaptation found in nesting songbirds. Nestlings, often within seconds of begin fed by the adult, excrete waste in tidy little sacs with a gelatinous outer coating. The dutiful parent bird now switches tasks, from meal delivery to waste management. By dropping the sac a safe distance from the nest, the birds tidy the nest while discarding clues a predator might use to detect vulnerable nestlings.Baby birds can't wear diapers but they do put their poop in a strong "bag" so the parents can carry it away. This bag is made of thick, strong mucus that a parent can pick up in its sharp beak and carry without puncturing.. Fecal sacs are just like disposable diapers for birds!
Within seconds of feeding, baby birds back up and poop. This ensures that whichever parent brought the food will still be there to carry away the fecal sac.

The fecal sac. For anyone who has ever changed a diaper, it’s a simple solution we can only marvel at.

by the time the baby is old enough to leave the nest it stops producing fecal sacs. this might also be a sign to the parents when it is time to force the babies out of the nest.

there is a asian virus that is killing the oak trees. so far it hasn't affected any of our oaks. most of the trees in our yard are oaks and they are very big and old. the neighbor said his tree had it but from looking at the tree laying on the ground it looked pretty healthy to us. sometimes the squirrels like to pull the tips off of the oak trees and can make quite a mess in your yard but its no big deal to pick it up. we are guessing that is why the neighbor cut down his big old oak

.today was a beautiful day. when mom got home this afternoon it appears the neighbor once again put poison in his yard. he must have done it once they were done removing his tree. he probably saw a butterfly and needed to do a full poison assault on his property. anyway once mom got home she felt it was safe for us to go outside. while I sat in her cage Cori sat on moms arm and got a sun bath while she read the paper. after finishing reading the paper mom took Cori on the porch with me where we sat and watch a hummingbird who wanted to come to the feeder but was quite upset when it saw Cori. the hummingbirds don't mind me at all. mom handed Cori an almond and she turned her back on the hummingbird and enjoyed cracking the shell and eating the nut.. i got a was worm to munch on. YUM! the hummingbird who had perched on a rhododendron saw we weren't looking and came to the feeder. it was a good day.

  Hi Rocket
We often call the solstice "Midsummer," but it's actually only the beginning. August 1st is Midsummer. the birds have stopped singing. No longer are we awakened at 4AM by the dawn chorus.

Many birds – wrens, robins, and others – may raise more than one brood in a breeding season. Depending on what part of the country you call home, your local birds may still be feeding fledglings, or those young ones might be completely independent by now. This is the time of year when a lot of birds begin to look shabby. Crows are missing feathers, and male Mallards look almost like females. [Listen to Male Mallards Disappear] Northern Cardinals and Blue Jays can be positively bald! It's their annual molt. Or one of two or more for some birds. American Goldfinches lose their bright summer colors in order to blend in with their dull winter surroundings. They'll molt again in the spring to show off those bright yellow feathers.

Some birds even lose the ability to sing after the breeding season is over. The part of the brain used for singing shrinks to lighten the bird's body mass. During the non-breeding seasons of fall and winter, most birds don’t need to sing to establish a breeding territory and attract a mate. Their lighter body mass makes them more agile and thus more likely to evade a predator during their winter foraging.

it was a nice warm day so mom took Cori and me outside to the porch while she read the Sunday paper. Cori in her harness and I was in my outside cage. Cori was happily munching on a lilac branch and I was paying extra attention to something going on under one of the hue shrubs. mom heard lots of chatter and looked up and saw what looked like a small group of fledglings with their parronts huddled under the shrub. suddenly one of the adults noticed me looking at them and quick as a flash flew at my cage never coming closer than about 3 feet from it. then it circled and the other adult joined it and they flew to a nearby blue spruce. I saw the adult coming and just as quickly went to the middle on the floor of my cage which is padded with a foam cushion. Cori on the other hand never flinched and continued gnawing on her lilac branch. in a few moments the adults ignoring all of us flew back to the fledglings and paid no more attention to us.

the male hummingbirds have already started to migrate south since their deed is done and they must want to beat the storms. the females will travel back after their babies have left the nest but the poor babies have to stick around to build up their strength before their long migration. i wonder why they just don't stay in Florida for the winter instead of crossing the gulf of mexico.

mom had a pair ofchickaddes with babies in one of her birdhouses. we were so afraid the snake would find them and eat them so mom stayed far away from the bird house so as to not draw attention to them. today the parronts threw the babies out of the house and it was so cute to see them fluttering around. they even went to the bird bath for a drink. it was a beautiful day today with no rain or clouds. its only the 4th nice day we have had this summer

  Hi Rocket
for the last couple days mom has been hearing the sound of the cicadas which means summer is starting to wind down. which is very sad since summer seems to have just started. anyway a few of moms forsythias died this winter and mom wanted to replace them but didn't want to spend a lot of money. they are going in the back on the hillside so mom isn't even concerned with how they look but figures they would grow with all this rain we are getting. she picked up 5 at k-mart for 20 dollars which is an exceptionally cheap price. she got home and wanted to get them in as fast as possible. at this point it started to drizzle but mom was working very fast and got 4 planted when all of a sudden the skies let loose and mom got completely soaked. then mom saw the neatest looking butterfly you can ever imagine. at first it looked like a dead leaf but when mom went to pick it up it moved and then she saw these painted big eyes on its wings. mom tried to pick it up with a stick but it just layer there so mom left it alone. it was bigger than her whole hand. mom thinks it might have been a moth because it was so gigantic. mom planted the last forsythia and came inside to throw her clothes in the wash. she was upstairs and heard water running and went downstairs to see what was going on and saw her washing machine hose had fallen out of the wash tub and the whole family room had about a foot of water in itl. mom grabbed a bunch of towels and sponges and it took her 3 hours to clean it all up.

glad monday is coming to a close.

  Hi Rocket
mom has tried the deer repellent and she has svn tried peeing on the flowers and nothing works. oh well it looked pretty for awhile.

we had on and off power last night because of all the storms we are getting. a small microburst hit a house about a block away and knocked down 5 big oaks which were laying all over the road and knocked the power lines down.the township came and cut up the trees on the road and piled them all up in their yard and now you can't even see their house. i think they are on vacation and don't even know about it. we have been getting heavy downpours daily at our house. you can't even mow the lawn because the grass never dries out long enough to cut it and the grass is all hanging over. its very easy to pull out the weeds now if you don't mind standing in the rain doing it. tonight some heavy gusts of wind were blowing and mom was afraid our trees would blow over also.

its still very sad at our house. today we brought home doggies ashes

mom planned to spend the day weeding and felt i would be safe in my cage on the porch since she was gong to be right near me in the yard. as she opened the front door with me cupped in her hand a big deer was standing there. it had meticulously eaten all the flowers off of every one of moms flowers including the plants in containers. when it saw mom come out the front door it ran off and didn't come bcd. why should it. all the flowers had already been eaten.

  Hi Rocket
well once again its raining. we have had rain 24 out of 29 days the month of june. i have never seen so many mushrooms growing in the yard of every color of the rainbow.
yesterday mom was picking up sticks in the yard whir i was sitting in my cage and mom went to grab a stick and it moved because it was a small blacksnake. from the black snake size mom assumes it could squeeze in between the bars of my outside cage which would cause me to have a heart attack from anxiety if nothing else.

when we first started with the IV fluids for our doggie we were using a higher gauge needle and it was hurting doggie and then afterwards she was bleeding. the vet has now given us a lower gauge needle and it doesn't hurt the doggie and she isn't nearly as upset when we give her the fluids and there isn't any blood now. doggie is much more alert and now drinking on her own. we just got a new food from the vet for doggies with kidney problems from science diet and doggie really likes the food. we will continue with the iv fluids until doggies appointment with vet to check her levels to see how she is doing next thursday.

OUCH ! that bite must have really hurt. if Pedro sees the bandage i bet he will want to bite that also. mom can never wear any nail polish because of Cori who seems to enjoy crushing moms nails whenever she sees any color on the nails. after having 3 nails crushed mom wised up and quit wearing any polish.

we had another full day of rain today. only one day this week when it didn't rain. no thunder and wind so that was good. more rain for tonight tomorrow and saturday. mom and dad are giving doggie fluids iwth a IV line and that is taking up a lot of time. our doggie had quit eating and the vet said it was because she was dehydrated and her electrolytes were off. they wanted to keep doggie for 7 days to administer the fluids but we felt doggie would not do well in a small cage all by herself. last night she peed in her bed and mom went out today and bought her diapers and pee pads in case she has another accident. doggie is now drinking and eating and much more alert but the IV fluids must be given for another week. vet said its possible she might need fluids for the rest of her life.

  HI ROCKET
it rained like crazy here today and then around 3pm the sun came out and was abnormally intense. we got outside for a while. a chipmunk wanted to drink from the fountain but she it saw us sitting on the porch it ran and hid in a clump of flowers.
then mom found a mass of cardinal feathers including the down laying in front of the garage and we figure one of those crazy hawks that are always hovering around must have gotten it. glad we didn't see it happen.

newsflash on the bad budgies. tonight while we were all running around in moms bedroom for playtime the bad budgies once again got into my toys. this time they were playing with the small plastic circles that fit over the plastic tubes. the bad budgie was fiercely pulling the circles off and flinging them everywhere. he flung one circle with great force and hit Piddy Girl right in the head. Piddy Girl made a small cry and flew to her cage. Paddy Cake is a very bad budgie.

once the crows started yelling mom didn't want to take any chances of having Cori ripped from her shoulder by a hawk or owl or whatever they were yelling at. she's heard stories of hawks diving down and even had a hawk dive down and grabbed a squirrel about 3 feet away from mom. she won't leave me alone in my cage because it seems all the wild birds are very curious about me but moms main concern is that big black snake that lives under the house.

mom had a heck of a time just trying to download picture from her camera to the computer. anyway in the photo gallery are the 2 baby fawns that were sleeping in moms garden. she hasn't seen them for about a month. also if you remember the little bunny that would follow mom around when she was working in the yard from last year. there are still bunnies in the yard but none of them are following mom around.

  Hi Rocket
sorry i haven't been on for a few days. moms been trying to catch up on things she had let slide, computer problems and doggie problems. yesterday mom gave Cori a shower outside with the hose it was in the 90s so mom wanted her to air dry outside. she held her with one hand while she pulled weeds with the other. after about an hour she still hadn't completely dried so she held her directly in the sun and made her flap her wings. while doing this some crows landed in a nearby tree and were yelling and mom figured they had probably spotted a hawk nearby so mom was glad she hadn't set me on the porch while she was distracted with Cori and the weeding. today it was rain on and off with sun shine and tornado warnings tonight with more rain. this morning I sat on the porch with Cori while mom read the sunday paper then mom took Cori inside and continued doing more weeding. she felt i was safer since she was weeding right by the porch. i was pretty quiet today while lots of birds were flying around in the yard.

its been raining steadily since dinnertime. the tv keeps saying go run to your cellar because of tornado warning but we don't have a cellar. anyway we aren't in the direct path. the sound of the steady patter of rain on the roof is very soothing

Something To Make You Smile

An old man lay sprawled across three entire seats in the movie theater. When the usher came by and noticed this, he whispered to the old man, "Sorry sir, but you're only allowed one seat."

The old man didn't budge.

The usher became more impatient. "Sir, if you don't get up from there I'm going to have to call the manager."

Once again, the old man just muttered and did nothing.

The usher marched briskly back up the aisle, and in a moment he returned with the manager.

Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move the old disheveled man, but with no success.

Finally they summoned the police.

The officer surveyed the situation briefly then asked, "All right buddy what's your name?"

"Fred," the old man moaned.

"Where you from, Fred?" asked the police officer.

With a terrible strain in his voice, and without moving, Fred replied;

"The balcony"…….

it was a beautiful day today. mom didn't get to take Cori outside because my frother and his girlfriend came by to help pull out some weeds so mom felt the need to work right along with them. Bit of course I got to stay on the porch since mom was working right by . tonight was a nightmare for Cori. mom decided to work on her lower beak which just keeps getting longer and longer. Cori put up quite a battle. mom finally jammed a pencil in her beak to prevent any more crushing bites to her fingers and keep her tongue out of the way. she got off about 1/4 inch which is a lot. then she trimmed the upper beak a little bit and told her she look beautiful. i am glad mom didn't start working on me

I had the best time on the porch and a beautiful blue jay even flew over to check me out but mom waved it away.it kind of scared me because it was so huge compared to me.

HAPPY TGIF DAY
a branch fell and broke the ear off of a cement bunny statue in the yard so mom decided to fix it today. she bought this new glue called tiger bond that is suppose to fix anything. mom was holding the ear on the bunny waiting for it to set and she saw this huge spider come running across the porch towards her. the spider jumped on the statue and was about 1 inch from moms hand. mom tried blowing on it to make it leave and it stuck up 2 arms and waved at her. mom then picked up a cloth to remove the excess glue and tried to wave the spider away. when she picked up the cloth the ear fell off and the spider jumped right in the glue. mom grabbed the ear and quickly reattached it to the statue and the spider just sat there on the bunny. mom then tried to brush the spider off while she held the ear on but the spider wouldn't leave. mom then turned the statue upside down so the weight of the body would hold the ear in place. at that point the spider meandered away. there should be a warning on the glue that says spiders are really attracted to this glue.

Q: what do you call a bee who is having a bad hair day?
A: A Frizbee

mom put Cori in the lilac bush again and me in my outdoor cage.she noticed a big round thing laying in the yard. and walked over to inspect it. it was a birds nest laying there. it was very well made with twigs tightly woven on the bottom and the middle had plastic bubble wrap woven into hardened mud. on top of that were more tightly woven twigs. the nest itself wasn't damaged and must have fallen out of a tree. there were no egg shells or baby feathers or anything laying around it so hopefully no eggs had been layed yet or if they had it was long before it fell and everyone hatched and grew up.

  Hi Rocket
Oslo the Norwegian capital has inaugurated the world's first 'bumble bee highway' a corridor through the city with pollen stations every 250 meters.
“The idea is to create a route through the city with enough feeding stations for the bumblebees all the way,” ”Enough food will also help the bumblebees withstand manmade environmental stress better.” Bumblebees and other pollinating insects struggle in urban environments where there are few flowers rich in nectar, effectively starving them. flowerpots were placed on rooftops and balconies along a route from east to west through the city.

During the last few years, bees, bumblebees and other insects have suffered, with many colonies dying out, causing damage to agriculture that depends on the insects. Although Norway is not as hard hit as the US, six out of 35 Norwegian bumblebee species are close to extinction.

Oslo's municipality is co-operating with environmental organisations, the public, and and companies, who are asked to plant bumblebee friendly flowers on their property. To help the insects along, the organisation BiBy (Bee Town) has created an app, where the public can see the “grey areas”, long stretches with no food for bees, in order to encourage the planting of flowers in areas that don’t have nearby parks.
“It will be easy to see barriers and obstacles on the map. The goal is to inspire people to fill these gaps.”The public will also be able to upload pictures of their projects to improve the situation for bees and bumblebees, such as flowerpots and bee hotels.”Some bee species like to live in solitary rooms. They need small hollows like a crack in an old tree trunk. It’s very important to have some old wood lying around,”
