Hi! My name is Dixie

I am a Green-Cheeked Conure from Marstons Mills, MA.

Keets, Keetsie

22 years old   M

Green-Cheeked Conure

Dixies loves fruity pebbles, peanut butter, all kinds of fruit and food.

favorite hangout spots are snuggling inside my bathrobe or coat at night watching t.v or on my shoulder as I move through the house. Also he likes to go walking with me in the good weather on his harness or in his carriage.

Doesn't like to be kept in the cage all day. He doen't like it when he can't be out where all the action is. And he doesn' like it when he sees my suitcase when I go on vacation. He will pull all the underwear and soxs out of the luggage. Dixie also doesn' like taking his meds and will give me a good fight. If I don't hide it in his favorite foods good enough, he will know and won't eat it.

Mom spoils me the most and I get to eat off Dad's plate and don't have to spend time in the cage when Mom's home and I get so much love and kisses everyday! And snuggle time!

Dixie loves to take showers in the kitchen sink and spray water all over the place. He also loves to flap his wings in the shower on his shower perch. Dixie also likes to walk around the bird room floor looking for crumbs..

Have wings will travel. Must be where the action is..

Dixie and Sugar love the cookies and the smoothies! Sugar smiles because Dixie got what the wooden hill was right away! They both giggle because Anna Sophia was thinking it was outside the house! They both agree it was a fun story!

Sugar cleans up after their snack and props Dixie's legs up onto the Hello Kitty pillow. She massages his legs and asks about his day! She hopes it was a good one!
She tells Dixie that her mom hopes the traffic is not so bad tomorrow since she will have to go to the market. It's their weekend now but Sugar is not sure if they have anything else planned.
Sugar tells Dixie that she got to watch the new Tinkerbell movie while mom was making dinner. She really likes all the Tinkerbell movies and this one was about a Neverbeast! It was very exciting!

Soon the friends are yawning and stretching their wings. It is time for bed!
Sugar wraps a wing around Dixie and gives him a kiss goodnight.
They say their prayers and include a special one just for Nana. They add one for Shiloh too!
Sugar has her own prayers just for Dixie. She loves him so very much and feels so blessed to have him as her friend!

Sugar waddles quietly through the house~
and rushes down the hallway. She peeks around the corner and sees Dixie waiting for her! With a smile on her beak, she waddles into the bird room. She throws her wings around Dixie and holds him tightly! She tells him she is so very happy to be here!

"How are you tonight? I hope your day was wonderful. Mine was pretty good. We did more chores and then mom spent some time looking for vegetable recipes online. She found some very interesting things!
Ian got called into work so she took him there. There was so much traffic! Mom said that people were starting their holiday weekend early!"

The friends waddle over to the platform and snuggle close together. Sugar hands Dixie the Hello Kitty lunch box. He opens it up and sees lemon cookies inside! He places the cookies on napkins for them while Sugar pours them each a glass of raspberry smoothie. They start to nibble on the cookies and sip the smoothies while Sugar reads the story!

"This story is called "Up the Wooden Hill". A bunny named Anna Sophia lives in a quite part of the forest with her family. They live in a very big house and Anna Sophia loves it. It is an old house so when Anna Sophie goes upstairs some of the boards squeak!
After dinner Anna Sophia is getting ready for bed while her dad is finishing his dinner. He has been out working in the garden all day and is ready to get some sleep!
Anna Sophia asks him if he will tell her a story! Her dad say of course, as soon as they go up the Wooden Hill. Anna Sophia has no idea what her dad it talking about. She looks out the window and sees the hill behind their house but that hill is filled with grass and flowers! She sometimes doesn't understand what adults say so she lets it go!
She asks her dad if he will carry her upstairs on his shoulders. Her dad says of course he will and they can take the Wooden Hill! Anna Sophia starts to think and think. The only wooden thing she knows is the wooden bridge that goes over the river. It is very cold there and she shivers thinking about it! Her dad tells her he will tuck her in once they reach the top of the Wooden Hill! Anna Sophia asks her dad what he is talking about! He tells her to think about it and gives her a clue! The way up the wooden hill is filled with boards that squeak!
Anna Sophia thinks and thinks and finally understands that her dad is talking about the stairs that lead up to her room! Her mom and and dad smile and tell her she is very clever. She and dad go up the wooden hill. Dad tucks her in and reads her a wonderful bedtime story!"

  Heya, Dixie!
Oh, I had no idea that is why you had problems. How absolutely awful for you to be beaten up by a fibling. And as hard as it had to be, it definitely was the right move to re-home that escape artist. We are so sorry that you had to endure that bullying from a lory, no less! Poor Dixie!!

So glad you got your Mom home with you today, too! That is always a good way to spend the day, for sure! I know she will be doing running tomorrow. I sure hope your Mom gets that report so that they can see that your Mom did not cause the accident. That will help your Mom feel less stressed!

Kalua pork is similar to pulled pork--in Hawai'i they would put the pig in an imu, or underground pit, filled with taro leaves, and it would steam cook/roast. It is so yummy--so if you ever had pulled pork, this is 10 times better! Mmmm. Oh yeah, Mom is gonna go back there again (and again).

It was chilly cold today too, here, but it warmed up to 66 and sunny. Mom had to make a trip to the dentist this morning as her crown fell off last night. Luckily the dentist had her come in early this morning and he put 3 posts in the tooth and cemented the crown back on. Tooth will need to be pulled though, and another implant put in. Mom says that she is going to check out a place close to home for that--they are $3000 cheaper than her current dentist is. Same thing as what she has. Right now that is a huge difference!

She went to see the financial advisor. And he thought that she just might be able to retire! He works at the local Mutual Fund Store office, and is on the radio here on Saturday mornings. She absolutely loved their approach and is hoping that she will get some good news when she goes back to see him next Friday. He told her she did pretty good for herself. A relief. He is gonna figure out with and without taking Social Security early. Whew. Mom was scared

Have a super rest of the night! Wing hugs coming your way, and beaky kisses too! And good thoughts and prayers for your entire flockily. Did skin bro get a place to stay with the co-worker? Definitely have him in our prayers--he has had a rough time of things and it is about time that they got easier for him. And you know we love ya lots, and are so happy to have you in our lives and sending good thoughts to us--they work!!

We have found out that if you refresh after voting, you can see if it took ... you also have to refresh after the blog to see if it took. This is so time consuming ... we sent another email to i5!
That is terrible, your fid sitter's daughter lying about the accident. That won't be good. Has the mom said anything to your mom?
We had another cold damp day. The cherry farmers are worried about the trees as we have frost again tonight. It needs to warm up for the cherries and me!

HI MY SWEET LOVING FIBLINGS. WE HAD ANOTHER COOLER THAN NORMAL DAY HERE. IT DID NOT GET AS WARM AS THEY PREDICTED. IT MAY HAVE GOTTEN UP TO 65 AND THERE WAS A BREEZE THAT MADE IT COLDER. MOM STILL WORE HER FLANNEL SHIRT AND JACKET TO THE GYM THIS MORNING. THE SUN CAME OUT BY 11AM BUT DIDN'T HELP MUCH. TOMORROW WILL BE COOLER, POSSIBLY VERY LOW 60'S OR UPPER 50'S.

I GOT TO HAVE APPLE PIE AGAIN FOR DESSERT AFTER OUR DINNER OF LIL RED TATERS AND CHICKEN. STILL HAVE ENOUGH FOR TOMORROW TOO. WHEN MOM COOKS CHICKEN SHE COOKS A LOT TO HAVE AROUND AS YOU CAN USE IT IN MANY RECEIPES.

MOM DID 32 MINS ON THE TREADMILL TODAY AS SHE HAD HER TRAINER. THEY DID UPPER BODY ON THE MACHINES. MOM SAYS HER LEGS AND ARMS ARE LOOKING GOOD BUT THE MIDDLE STILL NEEDS WORK. ITS GOING TO TAKE TIME.

NOTHING EXCITING WENT ON HERE TODAY. JUST HUNG OUT SINCE TOO COLD TO GO OUTSIDE.

SENDING YOU THE SWEETEST BEAKIE KISSES AND WARMEST WING HUGS.

PRAYERS FROM MOM AND DAD TO BE SAFE AND WELL.
PRAYERS FOR PEEPERS, KALLIE, CANDIDA AND CELINE.
PRAYERS FOR NANA TO CONTINUE TO IMPROVE BUT HOPE SHE DOES GET THE HANDICAP PLACKARD SO SHE WILL NOT HAVE TO WALK SO FAR.

Its good that Nana didnt keep on trying to walk to the part in Macys she was needing to get to and next time will know to park in another part. Nana sure does well though for all she has been through. Your mom and Nana always get lots of shopping done though and go to many stores so that is nice too. Well its still cold here so I didn’t get out to enjoy a sunbath. It was very cloudy too and even had rain this morning and later towards evening too. Mom hung just the sheets outside and did get them dry but everything else went in the dryer. I got up on the windowsill and yelled at the wild birds a bit today but they are so busy getting food they didn’t pay any attention anyway. “Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, They simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again.“ Goodbye from Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Hi Dixie
Oh, Mom forgot to tell you the best part about the In and Out Burger fries: they cut them up right before they go in the frier. If you go inside and order you can see them making them right there! Mom hasn't been in ages, and now she is craving it. Naughty Dixie!

Thanks to all my birdy buddies who have shared their flower pics. My mom is enjoying them vicariously. She thought about hanging baskets, but Dad said the most we will plant this year is a few Basil plants in the flower plot out front. That's gonna look funny, but it is just dirt now. Sure hope El Nino comes to visit next winter, because this drought is killing us!

Too cold (67 degrees) for a sunbath today, but no gym so lots of Mom time. However she did go for her arthritis massage, and she and Mattea had the nerve to chat for 15 minutes afterwards. And what did they talk about? Relationships! And I do not need to hear that my mom was saying lovey dovey things about Dad. Yuck!

Dad is good for one thing though. He took that rice and spinach for his lunch today! That means Mom won't be trying to trick me and feed it to me. And it is good for him being low protein and all.

However there was a nice surprise (not so nice for my mom) last night. The worst zumba sub ever was filling in for Jolene, so Mom came home right after getting done training with Becky. When she entered the gym the first thing she did was go to the class ticket machine (they don't cost anything, but just keep track of attendance) to see what name was showing for the class. So she not only didn't get a ticket, but she warned off all of her friends. Poor Celia got spotted by the sub, who grabbed her and said "You're coming to my class, aren't you??!!!" Fortunately for her it was her son's birthday, and although he had told her to go ahead and enjoy zumba she used that as her excuse. It was a pretty skimpy class. I got Mom a whole hour earlier than usual! Yahoo! However if they ever hire Stephanie as a sub, I won't get that lucky again.

  Hi Dixie
Mom and Aunt Ginny both liked the movie! It was funny, sad, and a lot of things in between. The Chinese food was tasty too, but we only got to eat the fortune cookie, because mom thought there were onions and garlic in the sauces.
It's really cold again today, high of 56, but we don't think it's anywhere near there yet. Mom took lots of flower pics, so will post them on all 3 pages. There are 19 or so new pics. It's a good thing she took the azalea pics yesterday, because it rained overnight and with the cool weather and rain, many of the flowers have dropped off the bushes already.
Today mom had 2 tours, both from the same school district, and both in Dinosaurs. The kids were 4th graders, which is the grade mom likes best. So her time at the museum was lots of fun this morning. Later we will get our cages cleaned, and mom will go to dinner with Aunt Renee. Aunt Renee is leaving next week to go to Texas and celebrate her namesake's 90th birthday. Mom will have a card ready for her to take to Aunt Lorene when she goes.
Not much new, enjoy the flowers! Hope you are having a good day with sunshine, cuddles, and scritches. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Dixie and flock
Hello everybirdie, Sweetie here this cool, but sunny Thursday. I apologize for not getting this blog out to you yesterday but we care having serious problems with BC right now.
It is definitely a good sign that so many have made long-term arrangements for us fids. It is something humans don't like to think about, death and being away from us, but since so many of us are very long-lived it is vital we all are provided for. A recent incident set this fact out from all othrs when one of our own BC friends was rushed to the hospital unconscious. There was talk prior to this eventful day about having contact numbers but the other person delayed to provide them. When the situation happened there was no one to call to care for the two fids left int he apartment alone. This could have been all avoided with proper per-planning.
At the very least everyone should take the time to list all their fids in a notebook. Including their ages, sexes, and every important fact about each one including foods, care facts and anything else that would matter should we be unable to provide for them. This notebook should be placed in a safe location; easily found by someone in a stressful situation. Tell family, friends etc where to find the book, or if you have a "care-provider" designated make certain they are aware of it and where to find the notes. Have contact numbers included for any family, friends etc and your Veterinarian.
In this situation mentioned we were able to work from Canada in behalf of our American friend. The birds were cared for by a close friend. The whole situation could have been smoother, and less stressful on our part with the necessary information in advance. Stop to imagine if things were different and no one was notified to care for the bird for the week their owner was hospitalized. Not a pretty thought. Sometimes we figure that family knows how to care for our fids. But in an emergency do they really know everything they should? In the event of our death, who will take care of the fids? Do these individuals know this in advance? Many times Companion Parrots are left to people who do not really want them and they end up sold, given away or handed over to a rescue to "deal with". As a Parrot lover and Parront we are responsible for their welfare even in our absence.
Having a living will, or a notarized paper telling all the details relevant to our flock will save alot of guess work later on for those responsible for our estates. We will have the peace-of-mind knowing we have placed our baby's into caring, informed hands and provided for their future without us. No one likes to dwell on death, but once we take care of this most important part of "ownership" of a Companion Parrot(s) we will be able to continue to enjoy every day we have here on Earth with them. Up dates to the notebook are important. Noting any behavior changes, issues or medical problems as they occur is also helpful for their future care-giver.

Come visit me, SKY, Little Angel, jesse & SWEETIE, THANK YOU for BOTD EVERYBIRDIE.

  Hi Dixie
It's Ginger.
We hardly saw mom and dad at all yesterday. Mom had an early appointment to get her feathers done at the beauty saloon. Dad dropped her off at 9am and then he went shopping for pellets for us. He picked up mom around 11am and continued their pellet search until around 12:30pm when they went to the movies and saw The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It was a cute movie. Mom and dad like most anything with Judy Dench in it.
They finally got home, with some pellet samples, at 4:30pm. We thought they'd stay home but NOOOOO! They went to a special Olympics fundraising dinner at Red Robin. Finally, they came home around 7:30pm and checked on all of us. That's when dad discovered that Rio figured out how to push the top of the nest box open and get out. Dad caught him and put him back in his and Sky's cage. Rio was not a happy camper. Anyway, dad tucked us all in and said goodnight to all of us, covered us up and he and mom watched TV. Well, mom watched TV. Dad fell asleep.
Today will be partly cloudy, with a high of 68 and a low of 55. Someone put the rain back in the forecast but dad says it won't rain. We'll see. Tonight mom and dad are going to a police awards dinner so they won't be home for dinner AGAIN!
Hope your day is fun.
Hugs,
Ginger.

Wow your mom is sure on the go. My mom hasn't been sleeping well and is really exhausted. I hope she gets some sleep soon because she is getting grouchy and doesn't want to get us out. We blame daddy cause he is night owl and when he finally decides to go to bed he wakes up mom who is light sleeper and she cant go back to sleep. Something is going to have to give or this isn't going to work out well for any of us sigh. Have a great day. V4U. Hugs.

I'm getting so tired of the BC problems. it will be 2 weeks on Saturday. Haven't heard if anything is going on with them .. are they working on it???
I sure hope all works out for your mom and her car. Do you know those neighbors very well?
Our weather is cold here and slowly going up. But, still can't plant flowers yet.
Looks like another night with a freeze warning until 9am. It should be in the mid 50's with some sun tomorrow. Maybe I'll get to sit in the window to get some sun. I got a new toy today ... it was a good chew.

Dixie and Sugar love the bites and the smoothies. They both find the story so much fun because Pipkin got to go all the way to the Moon. They both knew that the sky does not end but they are glad Pipkin found out for himself!

Sugar cleans up after their snack and props Dixie's legs up onto the Hello Kitty pillow. She massages his legs and asks how the rest of his day went!
She tells him that her mom had lots of running around to do today but she wasn't gone for long! She did go to the library so they have a nice new stack of books!
She is so sorry that the neighbor is being so mean about the accident. It is just not right and she really shouldn't put Aunt Rose through all this stress!!
Sugar asks how Nana and Shiloh are doing. She hopes they are both wonderful and getting better each day! She also hopes that Nana didn't over do it today and took some time just to relax!

Soon the friends are yawning and stretching the wings. It is time to get some sleep!
Sugar wraps a wing around Dixie and gives him a kiss goodnight.

and tip toes down the hallway. She stops at the corner and peeks around. She sees Dixie waiting by the bird room door for her! She waddles into the bird room and throws her wings around Dixie. She holds him tightly and tells him how very happy she is to be here tonight!

"How are you tonight? I hope you had a great day. Your nares look good to me! I wonder why you got all stuffy? I know you didn't like your mom cleaning it out but it's important!
I am glad you got to go to Nana's today too. I know you enjoy sitting by the window and watching the birds! I sat by the window waiting for someone to come and fill the pool up but they didn't do it today. I really don't want to miss that!"

The friends waddle over to the platform and snuggle close together. Sugar hands Dixie the Hello Kitty lunch box. He opens it up and sees cherry strudel bites inside! He places them on napkins for them while Sugar pours them each a glass of cherry smoothie. They nibble on the bite and sip the smoothies while Sugar read the story!

"This story is called "How High is the Sky". A little penguin named Pipkin asks questions all the time! He wants to know if the Sun goes to sleep at night. Where does the Moon go during the day! How deep is the ocean? How high is the sky?
An Albatross flying by hears him ask how high the sky is! He tells Pipkin he should fly up here an check it out! Pipkin tells him that penguins can not fly! The Albatross tells Pipkin to climb on his back and he will fly him up! They go as far as the Albatross can but they do not find the end of the sky! A bear in a hot balloon comes by and tells Pipkin he can take him even higher! They fly up and up but still no end to the sky! The bear tells him this is as high as he can fly but there is an astronaut who will take him higher!
Pipkin and the astronaut fly all the way to the moon. They see that the sky is dark and there are hundreds of stars! The sky just keeps going on and on! The astronaut tells Pipkin this is as high as they can go! Pipkin looks down at the earth and starts to miss home! They fly back down and Pipkin goes home. He tells his mother about his adventures and that he never did find out how high the sky is! He tells her the he thinks it goes on forever!
She tucks him into bed and he tells her that there are more things to explore another day!"

HI MY SWEET FIBLINGS. OH WHAT A BUSY DAY YOUR MOM AND NANA HAD. I THINK YOUR MOM SHOULD ASK NANA'S DR FOR A PAPER FOR HER TO GET A HANDICAP STICKER SO SHE CAN PARK CLOSER. YOU CAN GET A TEMPORARY ONE IF YOU DO NOT WANT A PERMANENT ONE. IT WOULD HELP NANA A GREAT DEAL SO THAT SHE DOESN'T HAVE TO WALK SO FAR FROM THE PARKING LOT. IT SURE WOULD HELP NANA A LOT.

OH I HOPE THAT EVERYTHING WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF WITH THE INSURANCE AND AUNT ROSE'S CAR. THAT NEIGHBOR LADY MUST HAVE LIED CAUSE SHE MAY HAVE BEEN IN A PREVIOUS ACCIDENT THAT WAS HER FAULT AND SHE WOULD BE GREAT PENALIZED.

  Heya, Dixie!
Oh dear, I hope you did not get a cold or anything to have a stuffy nose! I do that sometimes, sneeze, and cleans out my nares--Mom gets worried though. Know you enjoyed your time at Nana's, and that ride in the car seat, too!

Did your Mom hear anything more about the car or insurance? Sure hope you know that we have no reason to doubt your Mom--the accident and who got the damage speaks for itself.

We had a high of 49 today. Grey and blah. Mom and I spent a whole lot of the day together. She stopped at this place that has Hawaiian food, and she brought me back some Kalua pork, purple sticky rice and macaroni salad. Oh...wow. Is that stuff good!!! And we shared some of the mango pineapple cake...melt in your mouth! The owners are two gentlemen who came back to take care of one of their parents. They have all kinds of good stuff from Hawaii, food wise, and we are gonna hafta check that place out again!

Mom goes to the financial guy tomorrow and she hopes she can get everything in one place, and someone to keep an eye on making sure she is still earning something on the retirement money. She has done okay, but is still far short of what they say you are supposed to have in order to live nicely in retirement. She gets nervous as it is just her providing for herself. And me, of course! Hehe.

Have a super rest of the night, and wing hugs and beaky kisses coming your way and your Mom's way. We are sending good thoughts to her especially cuz we know it has been a really hard time with all the running she has been doing, and still taking care of everything else.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO,

Mom just enjoyed her visit with your mom last night! We hope that Shiloh has her fids homes with her that she will feel better! Mom says a fid always makes her feel better. Mom is home late again tonight...she was up visiting that zon Poppy. She said he is like a brand new bird! His plumage looks soooo much better and even that right eye with the cataract is clearer! No vent paste either under the tailfeathers. The bird mom is feeding him a lotta whole foods and get this Elvis...he likes and eats broccoli! Mom wants to get him a corner perch of some sorts or a platform. Can your mom recommend something and where to get that. She did not like anything in Foster and Smith. His mom is also going to do a comfort perch in a boing so she can climb up that from his floor.instead and using the bars of the cage. Next week mom is going back to do more rehab and take some pics. Perhaps they will make Poppy his own blog. M'om...you think you can bribe us with nut treats tonught??!! Sure can! Love and winghugs, Cookie

  Hi Dixie
Sure would think the insurance company will figure that accident out quite easy and the neighbors story will fall through since its pretty plain to see what really happened there. It sure makes life upsetting though till its all done and settled with.Today was another busy day for mom and looks like most of this week is going to be that way. It has cooled off a lot and mom said it was good I went out side yesterday for a sunbath cause its too cold to do that today. Mom and dad went to watch the softball game between the one grands team against the teachers. It was funny to see and the parronts sure enjoyed it. Mom had jeans and a sweatshirt on and took a jacket and had that on too. It was more like football weather !! “Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, They simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again.“ Goodbye from Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Hi Dixie
Whenever I get a chip treat from Dad it is always just a small piece of a chip. He comes in to my room and sets it on Mom's knee which is usually where I am sitting. I will not pick it up until after he leaves the room though. I won't eat in front of him, and they figure it is some survival thing from the wild since I consider him my rival. Not that I have ever been in the wild, but instinct is instinct.

The dollar Tree sounds just like our 99 cent store, so Mom will probably just stay close to home and shop there. Unless she happens to be over there anyway. They are at the other end of the shopping center from her Optometrist.

In and Out Burger is really good, because they make everything fresh when you order it. Their best is what they call a double/double. Two patties with cheese, lettuce and tomato. Mom can only eat half of one, although she could chow down a whole one in her younger days. No frozen pre-made patties either; all fixed up right there and so yummy! Their fires have skins on which Mom loves, and their milk shakes are made with real ice cream. Mom lets herself go to I&O only about once a year. It is just not a good thing for her diet.

Well, the weather geeks claim it is only 69 degrees outside today, but Mom and I went out at 11:30 and sat in the sun. It was just perfect and plenty warm, so that shows how much they know. They are not showing any rain in our forecast now, and that is really a disappointment. We sure could have used it. Supposed to be cooler thru Sunday, but Mom will continue to check since they were so far off today.

Then we shared a plate of the mushroom, zucchini and rice mix Mom made yesterday, and she added a dollop of cottage cheese to it to up the protein content. It worked really well for Mom's taste buds, and I love the stuff so it was fine by me.

Mom will be taking off to the gym just before 4 for training with Becky, but zumba remains iffy. Mom loves Jolene the new instructor for that 5PM class, but she won't be there today due to prior commitments. If they have a crummy sub, Mom will just come on home. You know what I am hoping for!

  Hi Dixie
Guess what? Our irises are in bloom! The red, yellow, purple, black, white, purple and white bicolor, and the Beverly Sills one, which is yellow and kind of a blurry lilac color. Mom was so happy to see them all in bloom!
Today we're in the middle of a cool spell. It's around 50, if that, and breezy. Mom is okay with the cool weather, as long as it warms up by Saturday, which is opening day for the pool.
Today mom had 2 tours, one at 10:10 and one at 12:30, so she had over an hour between. She took a book to the museum to read, so it wasn't so bad. The first tour was PA Natural History, so that was fun with third graders. They had a museum quest after the tour, so mom handed out materials for that when she got done. A quest is like a scavenger hunt in the hall on the sheet. This group stayed in North American and Botany Halls to complete their quest. The second group was another 3rd grade but it was the World of Dinosaurs. We all know how much mom loves doing dinos, so that was a fun tour.
Tonight Aunt Gin is bringing dinner with her, and she and mom will watch a movie here. It's called This is where I leave you, I think, and it should be good.
I hope you are having good weather there, not as cool as it is here, and that you are getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Peppino

  Hi Dixie
It's Ginger.
The same thing happened to dad, twice. Each time, the other driver claimed that dad was at fault but it was proved that the other guy was. Did the other guy claim that he was watching through a rear view camera while he was backing up? If so, make sure that your insurance company knows it. Those cameras use wide angle lenses and cannot judge distance properly. They are like the passenger side mirrors, with the warning on them that state the objects may be closer than they appear. Good luck.
Yesterday was a slow but busy day. After getting us all fed, dad took mom to the police station to work and then came home and scrubbed the kitchen and bathroom floors. He finished just in time to pick up mom and bring her home. We like it when dad is home alone working. He turns on the speakers in every room and cranks them up. We love the music and try to "sing" along.
This evening there is a special fund raising event at Red Robin restaurant. La Habra is one of the host cities for the Special Olympics and this fund raiser is to help cover the cost of a Disney Character Breakfast for the athletes. There will be raffle tickets for prizes, too. Mom and dad will be going to Red Robin tonight.
Today will be partly cloudy, with a high of 72 and a low of 53.
Hope your day was fun.
Hugs,
Ginger.

Dixie and Sugar love the cupcakes and the smoothie. They both smile when Bella isn't afraid anymore and skates like a pro.

Sugar clean up after their snack and props Dixie's legs up onto the Hello Kitty pillow. She massages his legs and asks about his day. She hope it was a good one! She and mom just got some notes done and then cleaned things up. Mom had to wait to the carpet since Mandy was sleeping on her blanket right in the middle of the room. Mom didn't want to disturb her and it's always sweet when she is here with us!
Sugar thinks the neighbor is being very mean and making the whole situation harder than it has to be! Aunt Rose was not driving the car sideways so there is no way she could have caused the accident. Sugar hopes it is all resolved soon and that Aunt Rose does not get stressed out by it!

Soon the friends are yawning and stretching their wings. It is time to get some sleep!
Sugar wraps a wing around Dixie and gives him a kiss goodnight.
They say their prayers and include a special one just for Nana. They add one for Shiloh too!
Sugar has her own prayers just for Dixie. She loves him so very, very much and thanks the Lord everyday for bringing him into her life!

Sleep tight and sweet dreams Bird of My Heart! ♥

and tip toes down the hallway. She peeks around the corner and sees Dixie waiting for her!! With a smile on her beak, she waddles into the bird room. She throws her wings around Dixie and holds him tightly. She tells him how very happy she is to be here tonight!!

"How are you tonight? I hope you had a wonderful day. Ours was a busy one with lots of cleaning going on. I hung out in my play cage and chewed up a toy while mom was mopping the floors. I made sure to do lots of screaming so she wouldn't get lonely in the kitchen!hehehehe"

The friends waddle over to the platform and snuggle close together. Sugar hands Dixie the Hello Kitty lunch box. He opens it up and sees carrot cupcakes inside! He places the cupcakes on napkins for them while Sugar pours them each a big glass of banana smoothie! They nibble on the cupcakes and sip the smoothies while Sugar starts to read!}

"This story is called "Bella gets her Skates On". Bella is a little bunny who lives with her dad, her sister Sophie and her brother Ben. Their dad has nicknames for each of them. Ben is Big Brother Rush about, Sophie is Big Sister Tidy Paw and Bella is Baby not sure!
One day dad asks them all if they would like to go ice skating. The pond is frozen solid and it will be lots of fun! Ben yells yes first and then Sophie says yes too. Bella is not sure. She is afraid she will fall down and that other bunnies will laugh at her!
After breakfast dad says they should play in the snow first. They build a snow rabbit while Bella builds a snow mouse. They all think her mouse is just fabulous! Next dad gets the sled out and they all go down the hill! They hit a bump and Ben and Sophie fall off but Bella hangs on!
When they get to the pond Ben is the first on out on the ice. Sophie goes next while Bella just watches. She sees lots of other bunnies out there who don't skate to well and gets the courage to try it!

I sure hope your mom took pics and had a police report done asap. That is always the best way to go. My mom almost got hit today! A young guy was backing out into bumper to bumper traffic on a main road and almost hit mom. She doesn't know how he missed her!!! Good luck.
I'm ok if I refresh the page, then I can see the blogs and or pics.
Our trees are 60 to 75 feet tall, and there are a lot of dead ones. We had that bad year a few years ago and many trees took a big hit.
Today was gloomy and only in the high 30's. Mom went shopping and dad cleaned up most of that broken tree mess. I took a greyt nap and was ready to go crazy after dinner. Should be a little warmer tomorrow.

OH DIXIE, I AM SORRY THAT THE NEIGHBOR IS LYING ABOUT THE ACCIDENT. MOM WATHCES ALL THE JUDGES SHOWS ON TV AND THE ONE JUDGE MOM LIKES, JUDGE MARILYN MILIAN ALWAYS SAYS TO HAVE A CAMERA AND TAKE PICTURES. THE INSURANCE GUY WHO CAME OUT TO LOOK AT THE CAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE HOW THE DAMAGE TO AUNT ROSE'S CAR IS AND THAT IF THE NEIGHBOR HAD BUMPER DAMAGE THAT SHE WAS AT FAULT. YOUR MOM WAS ALREADY IN THE STREET.

WE HAVE OLDER FOLKS ON OUR STREET AND THEY DON'T DRIVE VERY WELL. THEY ALL HAVE HAD ACCIDENTS IN HITTING THE MAIL BOXES, OUR NEIGHBOR HIT THE NEIGHBOR'S CAR ACROSS THE STREET WHEN HE WAS BACKING OUT AND NOT LOOKING AND HIT NEIGHBOR WHEN HE HAD ALREADY BACKED OUT OF HIS DRIVEWAY INTO THE STREET. KIND OF LIKE YOUR MOM'S ACCIDENT. NOW THE NEIGHBOR ACROSS THE STREET BACKS HIS CAR INTO HIS GARAGE SO THAT HE PULLS FORWARD OUT OF HIS DRIVEWAY AND CAN SEE EVERYTHING. THE NEIGHBOR LADY ACROSS FROM US HAS HIT ABOUT 5 MAILBOXES ON OUR STREET. WE ARE LUCKY THAT SHE NO LONGER DRIVES EITHER.

I DO HOPE THAT WHOEVER COMES OUT TO SEE THE ACCIDENT SCENE AND HOW THE CARS WERE THAT HE WILL BE ABLE TO TELL THAT YOUR MOM WAS IN THE RIGHT AND THE NEIGHBOR WAS TOTALLY WRONG.

OH WE HAD A COLD DAY HERE. IT ONLY GOT UP TO 51 DEGREES HERE TODAY. MOM HAD TO BREAK OUT THE LONG PANTS AND JACKET TODAY. THEY SAY TOMORROW WILL BE EVEN COLDER.

MOM IS MAKING US A REALLY GOOD MEAL IN THE OVEN SINCE ITS STILL COLD OUT. WE ARE HAVING CHICKEN BREASTS AND LITTLE RED POTATOES WITH KRAFT ITALIAN DRESSING POURED OVER IT ALL. ITS SO YUMMY. WE WILL HAVE PLENTY OF CHICKEN BREASTS LEFT TO MAKE OTHER MEALS TOO.

WITH THE CRAZY WEATHER MOM'S ARTHRITIC KNEES HAVE BEEN BOTHERING HER. WHEN MOM DOES THE TREADMILL, WHEN SHE GETS OFF IT SHE IS USUALLY LIMPING. THE LEFT LEG HAS THE NERVE DAMAGE PLUS THE LEFT KNEE IS THE WORST. MOM HAD 2 KNEE SURGERIES ON IT. BUT THE DR'S SAY YOU MUST KEEP MOVING SO THINGS WILL NOT FREEZE UP.

TODAY WAS TREADMILL DAY. MOM DID 36 MINS ON SPEED 3.8 AND ELEVATION OF 6. THEN SHE STARTED DECREASING THE SPEED AND ELEVATION AFTER THAT. MOM ENDED UP DOING A TOTAL OF 53 MINS AND DID 3.25 MILES AND BURNED 451 CALORIES. THEN SHE DID A FEW MACHINES FOR HER ARMS.

I SURE HOPE THE INSURANCE REALIZES THAT THE NEIGHBOR LADY IS LYING AND YOUR MOM CAN GET HER CAR FIXED.

SENDING YOU SWEET BEAKIE KISSES AND WARM WING HUGS.

PRAYERS THAT ALL GOES WELL FOR YOUR MOM AND DAD WITH THE INSURANCE.
PRAYERS FOR NANA AND SKIN SIS TO CONTINUE IN THEIR RECOVERY.

That is so nice you all had some of that pumpkin muffin your mom made and shared with you. Mom sure wishes I could eat things like that and not have problems but at least she is aware of it and knows basically what I can and cant have so that is part of the problem solved too. Last year a robin had babies in that pine bush that there is a nest in now and I got to watch them too then. Mom was a tad busy today. Her and dad went to vote this morning and then she went to the store and the fruit stand and got some goodies there too. After she got home and put the groceries away and called to get her feathers cut again and after that she was home to stay the rest of the day. Bet getting her feathers cut wont keep her from flying around though cause after all it is summer time and that is when the parronts do go more. “Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not the end, They simply mean I’ll miss you until we meet again.“ Goodbye from Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Heya, Dixie!
Okay, now think about the accident: Your Mom's passenger side was messed up. That means that your Mom was there first, and the neighbor backed into your Mom cuz she was not looking. Simply think of the car position and what was hit. If your Mom had back end damage, then it could be that she backed out and did not see the neighbor. But NO, it was the passenger door--which means your Mom was out in the street first, and the woman backed into her. The neighbor probably has had accidents and doesn't want her rates to go up, so she is blaming your Mom. Don't settle for that garbage! Plus the woman had little damage to her car...the ones who cause the accident usually have minimal damage. So there. Your Mom could not have had that kind of damage to her car if she had been backing out of the drive if she caused the accident. That is horse**it.

It was only 46 here today. Brrr. Mom says it feels like fall. I have had some serious shoulder time on Mom. She did some ironing of stuff today (love that iron!) and didn't do a whole lot else. Lazy Mom!

You give your Mom wing hugs and beaky kisses from me, and make sure you tell her what Mom and I said about the accident. That neighbor T-Boned your Mom, and that means the neighbor did not look what she was doing. We are sending good thoughts and prayers and positive thoughts that the accident folks will see things the way we do here.

Forgot a couple things, and the stupid BC wouldn't let me edit.

Dollar Tree sounds a lot like the 99 cent store as far as what they have. Is everything just a dollar? Everything at the 99 cent store is really that price.
And In and Out Burger? The best! And their fries are really super too.

  Hi Dixie
Linguine does sound very good. I like any kind of pasta there is, and those pumpkin muffins? Super. Mom's zumba friend brought her a couple of bran muffins with fruit in them, and we shared one. I liked it pretty well, but I like my mom's cookies even better. That and tater chips are my favorite treats, but I am only allowed a little piece of a chip about once a week. It always comes from Dad, but does that make me like him any better? Hah!

I am sitting with my mom while she does my blogging, and she is amazed that I am behaving. This is the longest I have sat quietly either on her shoulder or knee for ages. I usually end up back in my room after 5 minutes or so, and today we are almost done blogging!

Well, this has been a pretty nice day so far. Best part? Mom played hooky on zumba and stayed home with me. Worst part? She then decided to take a nap and I lost her for 45 minutes, but that beats the two hours she would have been at the gym.

And it is indeed warmer today, and the clouds burned off completely a little after noon. So by 1PM Mom and I were in the front yard catching some rays. Mom had to spoil it somewhat by deciding it was time to feed Ms. Gardenia Tree, which means she ran over to the garage for the food and tools. However she sang out to me while she was out of sight for a minute, so I didn't think she had abandoned me. And all in all it was a good sun bath. Funny watching Mom down on her knees working that stuff in to the dirt.

Then Mom came in a made a sorta veggie casserole with mushrooms, zucchini and rice cooked in chicken stock. We started out with me on her shoulder, since she uses cast iron pans so no Teflon worries, but I just couldn't behave and stay there. Mom doesn't like me on the counters, because I am too like to poop there. So back to my room I went. However I got to taste the results! Lots of spices, and so it turned out pretty tasty. She ended up with more rice than she needed, so what does she do? Spoils it by throwing some spinach in there for a second dish. I like the first one, but that green stuff? No Way!

  Hi Dixie
I think your mom is wise to take the time for herself, she's been running around trying to be there for everyone else for a long time now. She needs a day to be home. My mom loved being here this past weekend, she hadn't had a whole day to herself for so long.
Last night mom worked a special event at the museum and showed lots of folks around dinosaur hall. It's funny, because at some of the special events, the people invited just want to go to the balcony to eat and drink, while at others, like last night, they are happy to see something special before they go to the balcony. There was live music as well as food and drink for everyone.
Today mom went shopping for flowers again, she says for the last time this year, hahaha. She got her peace rose, her pink clematis, and some scented geraniums with a couple of miniature coral salvia and some streptocarpella for the porch planter. She also bought a new planter, it's a tiny wheelbarrow. She got geraniums, dianthus, and vinca for that. She also moved all the house plants outside for their summer vacation. Our little citrus tree has something green on it. Mom thinks it might be a little orange! So that should take care of the plantings in containers for this year. Now to get the tomatoes and peppers in the ground, and we're ready to take pics to share with you.
I hope you are having a great day. After a quick storm last evening, it's been beautiful here, sunny and warm. I also hope you get lots of cuddles and scritches today. Hugs, Peppino

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Peppino, Divo & Falco.

Good morning to everybirdie. Sweetie here with our first blog of the week. I have been enjoying this Canadian long weekend to the max. Warm weather, sunny skies, what more could a bird hope for? Maybe anew toy to chew perhaps?
Your responses have been very interesting and informative. Information sharing is after all what BC is all about. When a group of devoted bird lovers get together for any cause, things just have to happen for the better. Bird Channel consists of a wide mix of people and birds from around the world with many common interests but our passion for Companion Parrots is the foremost. The coined phrase crazy-bird ladies/men couldn't be more true then for those on BC.
I have always believed that the Bird Channel members have the power to bring change in the Parrot owning community. We can impact others through our one to one education. Even telling a stranger not to buy "brand A" for their own Parrot is sharing our knowledge and could make a life-changing benefit to even one more Parrot. It has been very encouraging to read the many ways each of you have helped spread the word. It is unfortunate that many have no Parrot Club close by or Rescues in their close vicinity. That does not lessen our ability to be true Parrot Ambassadors right in our own home towns. It is surprisingly easy to strike-up a conversation about Parrots with almost everyone.
It has made me one happily little bird to read how many have spoken to someone in a store about Parrots, even when you got "the-look" for it. When we share exactly what it means to be a Parront, it gives others something to consider before spending their hard earned money. You might just save a Parrots life too. Something we must all remember though. Not all re-homed Parrots are unwanted. Sometimes it becomes in the bird's best interest to re-home them. Not all Companion Parrots found in rescues are there because they are unwanted, sometimes it is quite to the opposite. They were loved so much that the former owner knew they could not keep their beloved friend for various reasons. It is easy to loose sight of this truth in light of the vast numbers found in Rescues and shelters.
In a perfect World all Parrots could remain in their first home forever, or until their owners go to the Rainbow Bridge. In the real World life changes, sometimes quite quickly, almost over-night forcing surrender of pets that are dearly loved. It becomes a heart-breaking situation when owners have no options left, and no where to turn but to a rescue to take in their best buddy.
NOW FOR TODAY"S QUESTION: what permanent plans do YOU have in place for your fids, should something happen to you? What advice would you give someone in this respect?

Come visit me, SKY, Little Angel, jesse & SWEETIE, THANK YOU for BOTD EVERYBIRDIE.
