  Bogie, Bogster, Bog-a-licious!
Blanche here to give everybird a status update on the goings on in our flock since we’ve been off BC for a few weeks have lost touch with others along the way. All is great here and mom is giving the Cay-man and I lots of attention and play time as we get ready to host Easter Dinner with the flockily.

Spring is here and we’ve spent lots of time on the back patio watching mom and dad pull weeds and trim trees and make the yard look pretty and filled with flowers again. We occasionally get to go “outside the outside” in our travel carriers to explore the yard and spy on the neighbors. Last weekend mom took our cages to the front drive to spray off the layers of feather dust our Spring molt left behind. I got to stay in the cage while mom sprayed it down…and she finally found how I like to bathe. In the very fine “mist” setting the hose provides. I was very entertaining to the little boy next door and he thought it was funny when I laughed at his laugh, which made me laugh and then him laugh even more….

Then Sunday, mommy went to the bird expo with Mischa and Scrithes’ mom. I must say I’m a bit disappointed by the number of toys she brought back. Only two for each of us! But….I suppose a restocked cabinet of food is a good 2nd place. After all, mom says nobirdy eats with as much enthusiasm as I do! (Although I’m sure some of you out there could probably prove her wrong.)

And I’ve yet to show mom any signs of the Springtime Amazon attitude. She’s actually becoming a bit concerned. Then again, I’ve always been a little “different.” I think mom just sees me as well behaved because, compared to the lean-mean-green-machine, I’m an angel! Well I must be scottin’ along…Caymus has been slackin’ on his Friday Funnies and needs to use the ‘puter to write his column for tomorrow.

Big ‘Zon hugs coming your way…hope to hear from you soon whether it be a quick hello or long visit, a visit from a friend always makes us smile.

  Caymus here!
So um…do by chance know how to get nacho cheese sauce out of feathers? On the top of your head? See um, mommy was eating um nachos last night, and um, she kinda sorta bit into a chip and I was kinda goofing off and um, the chip landed on my head, cheese side down. HEY, STOP THAT GIGGLING RIGHT NOW!

So yeah, mom tried to wipe the cheese off but ending up smearing it a little, and then I tried to shake it off, of which I succeeded in splashing some back in mom’s hair as payback! She tried to come after me with a wet towel but I was having none of that, no way, Jose! Well, problem is, it dried to my head feathers and now they’re all stiff and stuck together. Mom put me under the shower this morning and a bit more came out but well…I’m still a little cheesy. Daddy says I’m all ready for the Super Bowl because I’m a cheese head. Hehehehehe

Anywho, sorry Blanchie and I haven’t been on BC in a while. We missed you, though…most truly and dearly missed YOU! All is good here…just the usual business of flock life goin’ on. But we think of you often and your friendship always brings a smile to our face and a thank you to our beaks. Always the big hugs!!!

Happy New Year! Caymus and I just wanted to fly by and wish you all the best in 2011. All the best toys…all the best treats…and all the best perching spots in the sunshine!

We had a very busy holiday. Lots of family and friends who came to visit. Tons of good food. Caymus and I went to birdie camp while the parronts went to visit family for a few days. I wasn’t too happy about being there Caymus is such a suck-up with the girls they all doted on him. Me, I don’t trust them yet…they’ll have to bribe me with food a bit more. Unfortunately we have to go back in a few days while mom and dad take a trip on a big boat across the ocean. Even though my older skin sis and her boyfriend will be coming to stay with my younger skin sis while they’re gone, mom thought it was better for us to be watched by someone who was a bit more…er…um…. attentative, shall we say?

Last week Caymus was acting a bit weird…at least more than usual..hahaha (feathers fluffed out, standing on one leg with sleepy eyes more often than usual) so mom took him to the vet. He was on antibiotics for a week as a precaution, but nothing came up on either test they did, and he’s back to his ol’ crazy self now, so the vet said it might have been something mild he was fighting off or the fact that it’s was pretty darn cold here. Three days, in fact, of temperatures in the 20’s at night! In the 20 years mom has lived in Florida it’s never ever been that cold for such a long time. With the heater running all the time, mom put a humidifier in our room. And at night mom puts a heavy blanket on the back of Caymus’ cage because he’s close to the window. But we’re back in the normal temps now and his attitude is back to normal (again, we’re using the term “normal” very loosely when it comes to the Cay-man.) Mom says we all probably had cabin fever! (hehehe)

Sooooo…after this last little vacation and mom gets back and all settled, we should be back on BC more often. I just wanted to stop by and say hello and I’ll fly back your way soon. (((BIG HUGS)))

  Blanche here!
Well Bogie, during Thanksgiving I discovered the food I like the best is.....EVERYTHING! At least everything that mom will let me taste. No chocolate pie for me (sad face). Did you get your Turkey Day treats as well? Well Christmas is just right around the corner so who's up for seconds???

Right now we’re just busy with holiday activities and preparations…Caymus and I have our own stockings this year that mom says Santa Bird will visit since we’ve (mostly) been good this year. Oh, and my toe seems completely healed…the rest of the scab fell off and now it’s all fresh new skin! I do have a bit of redness on the bottom of the “good” foot, of course from favoring the bad one while it healed, but mom is putting healing ointment on that too and the vet says it should go away quickly now that I’ve been using both feet normally for several weeks.

We’re not sure when the next time is we can fly by…mom and dad get a pretty tight schedule this time of year and of course Caymus and I need our 1-on-1 time, too. The Cay-man be dropping by the BC Newspaper to leave his Friday Funnies column tomorrow but if we happen to not be by your page for a while you know why.

Sending big hugs and love your way!

  Hey Bogie...Blanche here!
Once again, excuse the copy/paste…mom gets Caymus and I so behind and then this is what we’re left to do. It’s not like we keep her that busy…ok, so yeah we do. (hehe) So my toe, uh, yeah, half of it’s gone. The circulation at the tip was just too bad and the little bugger just fell off on it’s own. There’s still some dead skin on there, mom can tell, but it’s doesn’t seem to really bother me and I’m keeping up my good spirits so I’m still on track to go for my vet check-up on Saturday. Mom, on the other hand is not a happy camper. She’s been concentrating more now on the fact that all this happened from a nail trim. So far the owner has been wonderful and helped with medical bills, but I have health insurance so mom didn’t worry about it too much. But now that this experience is (hopefully) winding down, mom’s got a whole series of pictures of what I’ve had to deal with over the past month and is going to ask the owner to instill in her employees what exactly can happen from even one mistake. That when working on a birds feet, to NOT take phone calls, talk to other employees or look away for even a second. And that if a bird has their feet in that tight of grip, then to wait and try again in a few minutes while the bird relaxes, or advise the parront that the bird is too stressed and should be taken to a vet to have the job done instead. (uh oh…I sense mom’s blood pressure going up…better change the subject)

As evidence of my happy mood I took a bath this weekend! And oh did I splash! Mom rolls my playstand into the center of the tile whenever my bath time mood strikes but I set a new record for water splash-zone distance. Once, that foolish cat tried to run past but I got him gooooood! I was having a heck of a time sufficiently soaking my backside so for the first time EVER I let mom spray me. Since it was in the low 70’s outside, mom made sure to keep me in the direct sunshine until all my feathers dried. Plopped on a chair on the uncovered part of the patio and thought we would melt.

Gotta get along to the next page…we’ve got a squash baking in the oven and I’m anxious for lunch. Big Amazon (((hugs))) to you!

So, are ya here yet, huh, huh? Dag nab it! What timing...last Saturday mom had a BBQ for a bunch of our BC friends who live in Florida and too bad we couldn't time it for when you and your parronts traveled past Orlando. We did meet another CAG though and boy is she smart! Watches everything...hehehe...couldn't figure me out though since I crawl around on mom like a little money. She had this expression on her beak like "woah, doesn't that thing ever slow down?" Kind of similar to what Blanche thought of me when we first brought her home. (grin)

Well if you're in the Sunshine state you should be appreciating how beautiful it is right about now. I'll leave you to soak up some rays cuz that's what we're about to do! Hugs to the flock!

Caymus here. Did you realize you answered MY blog on your own page?'re so funny! See pal, I wasn't ignoring you this long. I just had no idea you had written back to me! Ok, I have a secret...I've done the exact same thing! yeah, us parrots are pretty darn smart, especially you Greys, but I guess our humans get a little loopy sometimes. (smile) Ok, so...yes, mom finally adopted and brough home my new fister. She is a Mexican Red-Headed Amazon named Blanche (we think she was given that name by her first family because in the Golden Girls, Blanche was a redhead, too). She's 10 years old and I could imagine the similarities she'd share with a character like you. Definately the oposite of me exect where food is concerned. I mean, what parrot doesn't love food? But much more quiet, more reserve, watches rather than acts. But I guess cuz she pays a bit more attention she learns stuff a quicker than I do. Mom has to tell me "Caymus! Focus!" for me to give all my attention. I'm a tad hyper. (grin) We get along well enough. It's not like mom's gonna let me strut on over and give her a kiss, but when mom hold us both or has us in the same proximity, there's no sign of aggression on either side. She must know I'm only small in size but not in strength. hehe

So, enough of me ramblin', what have you been up to? Your flock packing up soon to "fly" south for the winter? It is BE-YOU-TEE-FULL here today. In the 80's nice breeze, humitity but not drowning in it...gets into the 70's at night. Ahhhhh!

Hope I see your big beak again soon...sending some hugs to you and your mom!

  Let's play "guess that birdie!"
Hi Bogie, how are you doing this fine day? I bet it's hotter up there than it is down here, huh? It was a very eventful weekend at our nest. I got a visitor yesterday and she was of the feathered variety. This bird’s foster parronts brought her over to see how she’d interact with our flock. Well she didn’t really care about me or the cats…she watched us but wasn’t scared. And she loooooooved the patio when mom took her outside. Unlike me, who wants to climb and bounce and be moving all the time, she just wanted to sit there and soak up the sun. And get this, she stepped up for daddy before she did for mom…twice! hehehe She probably knew it would be daddy who needed a bit more convincing and just suckered him right in. I tell ya, this girl is SMART! And I didn’t get territorial or aggressive. Granted I still acted like a mama’s boy, but that’s just because I know I’m her numero uno. (grin) So, mom is waiting for final approval from the rescue. And, mom also told the lady from the rescue she’d give her a final decision by Tuesday if we’re going to make her part of the flock. Mama says to always “sleep” on big decisions just to make sure they’re right for you. So, what kind of bird do you think she is? I’m gonna ask that question to everybirdy here and see if anyone can guess. (and the two or three of you who know, don’t spoil the fun!) There are actually a few clues in my blog if you read carefully, but here’s another hint: her name is Blanche, and we assume she was given the name because her and this famous Golden Girl share the same trait. hehehe Oh this game is gonna be fun! Leaving a hug and vote for ya…squawk to you soon! Your pal, Caymus.

Caymus here. Yes, we lost Miss Peachy June 17th. It was sad to let her go but mom is very spiritual and has faith that Peachy is flying free now, but that we will see her again some day. Hopefully splashing around in a fresh rain puddle as baths were her favorite.

So do you have any fun plans for the 4th of July weekend? I'm sure mom will put me to bed early because, altough the noise doesn't scare me, seeing the brigh lights in the sky does. Mom also has 2 whole days off work so it will be all about me, me, ME!

I know you're up north now but I hope that nasty oil stays away from your beaches. Mom has been going from sad to mad and back again about the whole mess. It brings tears to her eyes knowing not even close to enough is being done. But as always hearing from you makes us smile, my friend...come squawk again soon! Hugs and a vote to ya!

  Dear friend Bogie
It is with a heavy heart that I come to tell you about my fister, Peachy, who we fear is so sick she will not last in our world much longer. Last December running through early January/February, she became I'll. After taking her to the vet she was put on antibiotics for a respiratory infection, which unfortunately, Canaries are susceptible to.

With some quiet time, heating pad, antibiotics, and mama's lovin' she gradually improved to where she was eating great, singing, hopping around, flying in her cage...all the things a happy Canary should do. The infection left her with a few "coordination challenges" but other than that, when she moved into our room in March, she was a very happy camper. Last week we were so thrilled to come back onto the BC and tell you all about how well Peachy is, when all the while, she was getting sick all over again. The infection is back full-swing and Miss Peach-Peach was quickly moved into mom and dad's room, put back on antibiotics, given a heating pad...but this time she sleeps all day and unlike last time, her appetite is diminishing.

Mom feels awful. She feeds us a balanced diet of pellets, seeds, veggies, fruit, grains. She cleans or cages. Vacuums our mess. Never uses bad chemicals or sprays or uses Teflon or burns candles. We have a sunshine lamp, a HEPA filer, various toys, treats and perches of various materials and diameters. We go to the doc regularly. She has stacks of magazines and books about taking care of anything with wings. She talks to us, plays with us and loves us to tears. And yet she cannot see why, when she has worked so hard to keep us happy and healthy, how our little singer can be ready to die so young. Yet there are birds out there who live years and years in conditions no living thing should endure and ignored by mean people who get bored of their "pets." How can they live so long through that kind of suffering, yet mom has lavished Peachy and I with only the best, and still she is being taken from our flock?

Yes, we still have faith in miracles. But we also love her so much that we only want her to be happy and suffer no more. Please say a little prayer for her that if and when she leaves us, Peachy-Peach soars over that Rainbow Bridge and sings the loudest, happiest Canary song that even Mommy can hear. We will let you know any news and thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. We luv ya!

Great to hear from ya! I'm assuming you're back in the land of the North? Cuz woo, it is HOT down here! Not that I = lots of spray baths! I got 3 this weekend. Mom was home for 5 days straight and I got mucho spoiled. Plus I've got lots of pin feathers and mom knows how much the baths help. And no, I don't get too lonely in my room. Most of the time I'm riding around on mom's shoulder or on the playstand in the living room. The only time I'm alone in my room is if mom is out in the yard gardening, when before she'd usually have to lock me in my cage, she just shuts the bedroom door now. Unless she leaves the house...then the cage gets locked but the door stays open so I can still see out into the main area of the house and the kitties can come in and nap on my futon. I'll let you know about the new bird. It's still up in air. Take care my dear friend and we will squawk again soon!

How the heck are ya? I know…shocking to see me here, huh? Well, mom and I have dedicated more time to each other, the rest of the flock, household chores, relaxing…you know…life. Which is why we haven’t been on BC for a long time. But that doesn’t mean I don’t miss you or think of you often, because I do! And even if this is a cut/paste message, rest assured that when I came to your page, I remember something special about you that made me smile.

What have I been up to? Well, I have my own room now! Mom and dad call it “the bird cellar” (see pics below) because MOST of the room belongs to Peachy and I, but daddy was allowed to use our closet to store some of his wine. The best part is that when my parrots are home but can’t have their eye on me, I’m in my room but not my cage. It’s awesome! Mom hung a big tree branch above my cage with some toys, and I’m next to the window so I can see out, but also hide if I see something scary. Got my radio, own TV. And mom made me little “birdie furniture” she painted all pretty to store my treats and toys.

Peachy is doing well. She still stumbles around her cage a bit, but other than that, she is a-ok. She's even singing and tweeting again!

We are also considering a new flock-mate. Daddy has given the green light. (“But just ONE…unless we win the lotto and move to a plantation!” he says) Since mom has kind of sound-proofed the bird cellar (the key word here is kind-of), she broke dad down and he agreed she could bring home another flock member. But she isn’t 100% ready. I think she’s worried how I’ll react since sometimes I occasionally, rarely, every-now-and-then, kind-of, sort-of act like a spoiled brat. (A-hem!) Anywho, on one wing, I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-feathers kind of bird. Hardly anything bothers me. If something new is brought into the house, as long as I can inspect it, we’re good. No freaking out…no birdie tantrums. I’m like as easy going as they come. Especially for a Conure! But mommy…well I am her BABY. And I aint sure I want to SHARE her with anybirdie else. I have allowed another bird to perch on mom’s shoulder, but that was at my Aunt Cathy’s house. And I did let mom hold our friend Knuckles…but she was visiting, not staying. Big diff. So if you have any advice on going from a 1-parrot house to a multi-parrot house, PLEASE SHARE.

Well I don’t want to squawk your ear off all in one sitting but please please please drop me a line and let me know what’s new, how you’re doing, and any and all gossip about BC news. Oh, have to leave you with this: Question: What kind of bird sticks to sweaters?? Answer: A vel-CROW! hehehehe

Love and hugs always, even when I disappear. Cuz you’re my buddy and I hope you know, in my heart you’re always near.

  Caymus here...
Hello dear friend! Yes this is a copy/paste email but it is the only way I can catch up on months of blogs that I have neglected. First of all, let me say HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope your entire flock receives happiness, health and love this year and for many to follow. An update on the latest happenings: First, my fister Peachy has been very sick. We don’t know what is wrong with her. The vet though it was a respiratory infection, but after two weeks on antibiotics and mommy keeping a heating pad under a towel in her cage, she’s not getting better. The thing is, she’s not getting worse either. She’s still eating, drinking, perching and preening. But she moves around like a drunken sailor and sleeps a lot. Mom thinks maybe she had the equivalent of a birdie stroke because it seems her motor skills have diminished. Or maybe her eyesight. But she seems happy when mom gives her treats and we’re making her as comfortable as possible. On to another bit of news, I’m getting a bird room! My oldest-skin sister is finally spreading her wings and moving out. That means….PEACHY AND I GET OUR OWN ROOM! Woo-hoo! I’ll miss her giving me treats and letting me out when she gets home before mom, but mom says she’s not far away and will visit often. This weekend is the big move, then mom is having a solid wood door and double-paned windows installed in the room. I got to pick out the paint color…it’s called “Summer Ivy.” Then a few decorations and Peach and I can rock out! At least I hope Peach is better by then. I’ve also heard mom and dad talking about a new flock member, but not for a few months. Mom wants to get me acclimated to my new digs, make sure Peachy is on the road to recovery, and then there was mention of some kind of sound-proofing do-da thing. Sound-proofing? For what? I’m assuming so that when it’s nighty-night time, the noise from the living room doesn’t bother me. I just hope it doesn’t diminish my 6 a.m. rise-and-shine call. I wonder if mom thought about that? I’m SURE she wants two conures screaming at the top of their lungs to ensure she wakes up before the crack of dawn…especially on weekends. It would be a pity to waste a day off sleeping in! With that said, because my cage is going into the new room, I got a really fun play stand that will go out in the living room. Granted I’m usually clinging to mom, but for those rare moments when I allow her to leave my side, I’ll still have plenty to entertain me…for about 5 minutes anyway. I posted pics of me on my new stand on my page if you want to take a peek. Finally, we’re looking forward to the local bird show in a couple weeks. Some of my Birdchannel Aunties are driving to Orlando for the show and I hope I get to see them. Woop, woop! I love my aunties very, very much (even if it takes the entire visit for me to warm up to them). Hehehe That’s the update for now…sorry for the long reading material. But PLEASE write back and tell me how you and your flock are

Caymus just checking in with the Bogie-man. It's been warm in the Sunshine State you'll have lots of sunshine for your early morning lattes! hehehe Guess what??? I taught mom a new trick! When I shake out all my feathers at once she makes this funny face and silly noise. So I do it again, and there goes mom with the funny face and sound again. I could go on and on with that lady and she'd probably never tire of it but it can only entertain a bird for so long, ya know? I've also been praticing my dance moves and mom plans on getting me on video this weekend. In fact, mom's been makeing me exercise a LOT. I wonder if it has something to do with all that extra energy I've had the past couple months? It seems to be going away though. As the days get shorter and the mornings and evenings bring cool air into the living room, it brings on a relaxing sensation. Ahhhh....AND mommies fingers don't seem so bad anymore. Hope to hear from you soon. Luv and miss ya! (((hugs)))

Good to hear from ya, Bogie! Glad to also hear that your mom is getting her Vitamin D from the sunshine. Rainy weather is ok once in a while but any more than a day or two and our flock is itching to get back outside. Where in the Keys are your parronts going? I hear it's gorgeous down says it's her favorite spot in all the state. BTW, happy 25th to your parronts. Mom is in deep admiration. After 8 years with dad (3 married), she appreciates what an accomplishment that is. heheheh It's funny...whenever I get moody she always says, "Caymus, it's a good thing you're cute." I know when daddy's in trouble because she says the same to him. Daddy's favorite line is, "honey, we're not supose to argue infront of the bird." Obviously daddy is quick-witted like me too! (grin) Ok, enough rambling for now. You take care and no drinking Martini's with your uncle and aunt! Stick with the latte. hehehehe Hugs coming North!

So good to hear from my favorite grey! Well it's been raining lots down here too so don't feel bad. In fact, mom thinks the weather kind of pushed me into my hormone surge...yup, I've hit puberty. And mom ain't liking it one bit. I've drawn blood on that poor woman's fingers three times in the past week. I don't MEAN's the hormones man! They make me this restless, excited, crazy demon bird that wants to velcro myself to mom but bite the heck out of her fingers. Today mom came home prepared and thinks she's learned how to deal with me until I get past this. (sign) Mom says if I get worse she's calling the exorcist. (hmph!) Until then, it's an earlier bed time, less mommy time, and endless "time outs." Mom is understanding but she ain't puttin' up with my (beeeeeep) either. hehehehe She wonders how other mommies with bigger birdies handle the deadly beak during "mating season." I'm sure you're a handful! (grin) But hey, we are so lovable and cute mommies always forgive! :-) Hope you're having a blast up North...big hugs coming your way and a beak hiss (no biting) for your mom.

  Hey Mr. Bogie!
Caymus here just checkin' in to see if you made it up North safe and sound? Well ya know it's been so hot here...heat index in the 100's, so I guess your flock left just in time. Mom will only let me go on the patio for a little bit at a time, but the weather IS perfect for spray baths! Hope you're settling in and enjoying some normal summertime weather. ;) Big hugs to you and your flock!

An Ode to my Fellow Florida Flock by Caymus
Down South in Naples resides Bogie the Grey,
And every summer he goes up North to play.
When the temps start dropping he will come back my way,
And sit on the lanai with his parronts drinking latte!

Sprout and his flock reside on the Coast,
And he has the best parronts, he eagerly boasts.
He may be shy, but not his buddy Noodles
And the rest of the flock, each one cute as a doodle!

Pepper and Parker are new pals of mine
And I quite like their mom, whose writing’s divine!
They live down south in Hollywood (no, not California)
And they certainly are characters, I must warn ya!

Louie from Coral Springs was one of my first buddies.
Now they’ve added another, Miss Libby Lu who is lovely.
Their mom brings smiles to all birdie faces
When she sends homemade gifts and cards to their resident places.

Over in Clearwater is Rocky the ‘Too,
With Bobo and Chewy, they make quite a crew!
The Rockster is such a smarty,
And he will be 10 this year, a reason to party!

Misha the Nandy just a short distance away…
I still have not met her but I heard she can play!
As a fellow Conure I’m sure I can say
How much she must make her mom’s day.

The handsomest of them all is Michelangelo
Because he’s a Dusky Conure that’s also my bro!
Separated when we were so young in age
We met again on this wonderful BirdChannel page.

There’s Knuckles who whistles better than me,
And also a Seni by the name of Queakie.
Timba & Treasure, Turtle and his flock,
And Sunny the ‘Tiel…I like them a lot!

Across the state, my hugs I extend,
As I am so blessed to have all of you as my friends!

Your mom let you have a latte???
hehehehehe Caymus here. Well I can see your new pics. Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you. When adding new pics and you don't see them on your page, just hit the refresh button at the top a couple times. Then you should see the new pics you added, including the main one. Since it's the 26th you're probably either on the road or back up North by now. Hope your travels were safe and you arrive to your Northern home safe and sound. I told all the wild birds going back up North to say hi to you if they come across your backyard. (grin) Talk to ya when you settle in! Big hugs!

  Caymus' Joke of the Day!
Hey Bogie, I’m just flyin’ by real quick to tell you a “joke of the day!” (hey, no groaning…I SWEAR this one is funny!) Ok, so… was the Roman Empire cut in half? ??????????? With a pair of Caesars! hahahohohehehe!!! Oh come on now, you totally laughed! I saw you! (grin) Big birdy hugs and a vote coming your way! P.S. And just because you and your flock are headed up North doesn't mean I'm gonna stop sending you my jokes. I happen to know our BC pages stay open up to a whole year of inactivity so eventually you'll have to subject yourself to my corny one-liners! hehehehehe

  Hi Bogie!
Caymus here. Hope you have a safe trip North incase I don't talk to you before then. At least it's warmin up up there, too! We were busy this weekend, but we did lots of “green” stuff to kick off Earth Day this week! First, we had a garage sale. What better way to recycle than for someone else to get use out of items we don’t need anymore? I even participated and sold my little play stand that I don’t play on. Then, what didn’t sell was given to charity. Sunday the parronts went to a Spring Fling festival. They brought home lots of nice native and gardening plants to put in our yard. Mom learned a new idea…if you don’t have a rain barrel, then just use a large plastic bin to collect water when it rains. Keep out bugs by placing a screen over the top. When you’re ready to water potted plants or small areas, just scoop up the water in a can and water away! And we all know rainwater makes things grow three times as much as any ol’ sprinkler, so your plants will be happy, too. Speaking of plants, that reminds me of a joke I just heard. Q: Why do melons have fancy weddings? A: Because they cantaloupe! (uh oh, mom just rolled her eyes at that one….hope it brings a giggle out of you!) Leaving big hugs and a vote…one more day till Earth Day!

  Hi Boggie!
If you’re taking a vacation with your parronts this year…or they going off without you (hmph!), then I’m here with Caymus’ “green idea of the day” just for you world travelers out there! 1) Touring a new city? No better way to see the sites either by walking or public transportation. When in Rome, they say. 2) If you must rent a car, rent a hybrid! 3) When dining out, eat “local”…if in Maine, have lobster. Trip to Washington? Try the salmon. No sense having a steak in Key West when you could be dining on Stone Crab and Key Lime Pie! 4) Same for where to dine…choose a local mom and pop establishment instead of the golden arches. Helps the local economy at the same time. 5) Stay at hotels that are adopting sustainable initiatives…and use those towels and linens more than one day please! 6) When it comes to souvenirs, buy something that was locally made. I’d rather have a painting from a local artist than a Grand Canyon snow globe made in China any day. Happy trails, and don’t forget to write! (hehehe)

  Hi Bogie!
Caymus here. Today I’d also like to mention that it’s “Prevention of Cruelty to Animals” month. My little friend Pippin from Dearborn Heights, MI, along with his flockmates Dusty Beaker, Skipper, Sammie, Max and Sapphire, reminded me of that fact. Thanks, Pip! I got my green idea of the day by going to, where you can preview the trailer for the new movie coming out on Earth Day. And, to celebrate the premier, the film’s makers will plant a tree in honor of every moviegoer who sees the film in the opening week. The trees will be planted in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, which is considered the most endangered rainforest in the world. Some of our wild cousins live there…so now mom’s trying to figure out how she can smuggle me in the movie theater! hehehe Stay green my friend-hugs and votes all around!

  Hi Bogie!
Caymus here. Well it’s that time of year again when I really show my true colors and invite everybirdy our there to “go green” with me! Even my fister Peachy has gotten into the spirit…I mean, have YOU ever seen a green Canary? Rumor has it that I painted Sam the Grey green last year, so you better be careful or this year I may come after YOU! hehehe And of course, stay tuned for my “green ideas of the day” as well as some really neat quotes, and of course a silly joke or two. Earth Day is very important to our flock not just on April 22nd, but every single day of the year because as an old Cree Indian Proverb says, “only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught, will we realize we cannot eat money.”

  Caymus flying by....
Thanks for the happy hatch day wishes, Bogie! I spent the day shredding my new toy (that one didn't last too long) and mom ordered my! It was delicious. Yeah, I'm so happy the sun has been so warm lately. Aint it great? Mom has me on the back patio practially every day. Funny that other birdies are happy just to get their temps back in the 50's or 60's, and I need at least the 70's to even consider it warm. Mom's the same spoiled are we? Totally understand about the being busy thing. I'm not on BC as much as I use to, partly to be playing on the patio, partly because mom's been doing other stuff to keep the flock happy and occupied. Well I'm signing off for today but leaving you a vote and big birdy hugs. Squawk at ya soon!

  Caymus here...
Hey there Bogster! How’s it flappin’? I just got back from Birdie Camp (mom’s fancy term for being boarded at the local bird shop). Mom and dad went away for a long weekend and this was my first time away from home, too (well, except for my romp around the neighborhood but that wasn’t even overnight). Since I’ve never been overnight anywhere, I was pretty scared that first day. But after I learned that the B&G in the next cage wasn’t going to eat me, I chilled out. The ladies taking care of us were really nice too and I charmed them with my cute little face so they would give me extra scritches. Mom also told them it was ok to let me have whatever treats or food I wanted because I’m hardly a picky eater and one of the girls gave me a piece of cooked macaroni! Yummy! Another camper was a Moluccan, and man, could he dance! I learned a new move from him…mom calls it my “walk like an Egyptian” move and hopes to get it on video real soon. The last birdie camper was a Grey. She made lots of cute noises but I haven’t shown mommy what I learned from her yet. I’ll wait till mom’s taking a nap so she can get the full effect. (hehehehe) I wonder what the other campers learned from me? Maybe one day soon they will return home as well and startle their parronts by screaming out “Caymus go poopy!” Mom thinks that would be a riot but I’m not so sure why she thinks that’s funny. After all, SHE’S the one that taught ME that! (grin) Well I do hope you are having a feather-tastic day…leaving big hugs and a vote!
