 TO ALL OF SKITTLES FRIENDS & THEIR FAMILY ~ I'M CRYING AS I WRITE THIS & MY HEART IS BREAKING. SKITTLES DIED YESTERDAY, 5/03/07, MORNING. THIS PAST DECEMBER, SHE WAS DIAGNOISED WITH CARDIAC DISEASE WHICH CAUSED FLUID TO BUILD UP IN HER ABDOMEN. SHE HAD TO BE DRAINED EVERY 10 TO 14 DAYS AND HAVE BEEN GOING IN WEEKLY SINCE MARCH. THERE WAS COMPLICATIONS WHEN SHE WAS DRAINED LAST WEEK WHICH MADE IT HARDER FOR HER TO BOUNCE BACK. GULF COAST VETERINARY SPECIALIST IS DOING A NEOCROPSY & RESEARCH ON HER, THEN I'LL GET HER BACK. HOPEFULLY, THIS MIGHT HELP THE NEXT LITTLE BIRD THAT COMES IN WITH THIS DISEASE. WE HAVE MET SO MANY GREAT BIRDS & THEIR MOMS & DADS ON THIS SITE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS & SUPPORT!
The owners of a pet store were retiring & closing their store. Their birds were marked down along with merchandise. Skittles was 5 months old & the only Lory in the store. She was in an aquarium with 3 other young birds sitting on a log. I told her to step up & she did! Fell in love with her!. |

I am a Rainbow Lory from Houston, TX.

Jalapenos, corn, hard boiled egg, pasta, & baked potato is my favorite foods. Tortilla chips, & yogurt is my favorite treats!
 First & favorite is my mom's shoulder where I like to give her kisses & preen her or hanging upside down in the front or back of her shirt while she's walking around the house. Second would be with my dad in his recliner. And third, would be my playground.
 My number one pet peeve is taking medicine which looks like I better get use to it because I'll have to take it the rest of my life. I also can't stand the dish towel or any other towel! I'll try to bite it if it gets too close. Another pet peeve, is when I am in one room and she's in another. Also, I don't like anyone trying to touch my back! (And that means no one, except my mom, of course.) Oh, something else, loud noises.....like the vacuum cleaner, garbage disposal, etc.
 She spoils me really bad! She's always kissing on me & telling me she loves me. Also, I love Dad & Mom to scratch my head - feels soooo good! I get a lot of toys and I get to go bye-bye in the car with her, which I really love.
 Dropping my toys on the ground, then screaming when one of the cats start playing with the toy. Also, I like throwing toys off my playground when mom is around. She keeps picking them up & I think that's funny! I talk a LOT - I tell my mom "I love you" several times a day & even call her "mama' (which makes her smile). Mom tells me I'm smarter than some kids she knows. I've got a growing list of words & phrases. My favorite phrase is "Wanna go bye-bye? Come on, lets go!" Something else - I love to bath in my water bowl! I jump in & out, in & out - which makes a little bit of a mess - but it makes mom laugh!.
 What's good for the cats is good for the bird!.

We are so sad to see that Skittles has flown to the Rainbow Bridge. Mom almost lost me, Chirps, with this egg-binding and breaking thing. I am on the mend but need to put on some more weight! I am so happy your mom let the Dr. do the necropsy. She is right that it may help some other birdy. We are praying for your flockily, but we know you are with our Creator now! Special attention Chyna dear, it's Kentucky Derby day, and like everybody else, we are hoping for a safe and exciting race, and a parade of beautiful hats! We never did see who won the Oaks race, dad couldn't find it on TV! Dad had a great time at the NRA Banquet, a lot of money was raised and a lot of guns were auctioned and given away! Nope, what I mean is that memories of you are always sweet to remember, that you were one sweet bird, always makin' me laugh with your antics or wowin' me with your amazing colors.
