 Okay, here's the long story. I work for a bird specialty store, and would often take home very young babies to handfeed them. Lucky was one such baby. I was handfeeding him and a quaker at the same time, and of course we all bonded. Lucky in particular was very attached to me, but he was already sold, he was just waiting to be weaned before he went to his new home. He had been weaned and was eating his pellets and veggies and everything for a couple of weeks when that room of the store had some new flooring put in. The floor was being put in in only one section. Lucky's cage was above and to the left. The workers had stripped out the old floor and were applying glue to the bottom in preparation for the new pieces to be put in. I was servicing Lucky's cage, and he wanted to come out. I was trying to push him back in because I didn't want him to get in the glue. So, of course he jumps past my hand, and in the glue he fell. It was bad enough that his whole belly and mouth was covered, but one of the workers (with his glue-covered hands) pulled him out and got his back covered also. This poor bird. I ran him up and with another person tried to clean him up. We called the vet and he said first to use baby oil. Okay, that got off most of the glue, but he was extremely oily. Next he had us wash him in Dawn. Better, but not great. This whole time I felt awful. I was crying hard. I thought he was going to die. He was a trooper though, didn't squirm or complain a bit. He stayed alert, except when I wrapped him in a towel to try to get him warm. He fell asleep then. The end is, he eventually molted out his yucky oily feathers (even through repeated baths, they were never quite the same) and we called the people who had bought him, and they chose a different bird. Lucky for me, 'cause I couldn't let him go after that. He's my baby.. |

Hey, Hey, It's almost My Favorite Day..St. Patrick here, It is almost noon here. Dad has Mom and Skin Sis putting up a gazebo...Mom is huffy,cause the wind is puffy. She thinks it is not wise to put it up with March winds and tornado season upon us. hehe She lost.... I guess it is time for the LIMERICK OF THE DAY:......... ............. ....................... While shopping for a pet Macaw,....... ............. ............. .............. They ran across this jabber-jaw. ............. ............. .................. Hi Friends, Fortune and the flock here, our friend Tyler the Green Winged Macaw from TN., wants you to know that his 16 yr old skin brother is getting better. Doctor's are still not sure what caused his problems but he is recovering now. Thanks to all your prayers, he may get to leave the hospital soon. Hi BBFFs, I am shocked. Your sweet honor has Mommy in tears. She always tells us to do our best to love others and we will recieve our rewards as God sees fit. BUT,I was thinkin' my wise friend Beavis would be BOTW. Lucky is quite the cutey! And the fact he likes to choose his own toys doesnt surprise me one bit since he is a little stinker of a lovebird. (I have two lovebirds, so I know how demanding they are!) He is a handsome little guy! Come visit me, Cherry, Parsley & Tiki.
