 Tiki is a special-needs bird, although she doesn't know it. Her breeder and I worked together at a laboratory when she pipped. Unknown to the vet, Tiki's parents were most likely brother and sister, and most of the clutch didn't hatch. Tiki was the only one to live, and has crippled feet and legs. Instead of "putting her down," the breeder saw her will to live, and helped her to learn how to walk. Tiki thrived, but the breeder knew she couldn't sell such a bird. She knew I'd always wanted a sun conure, and that I have leg and bone problems of my own, so I'd make an understanding "Mom" for the little bird. Her husband built a special mesh cage for Tiki so she could get around more easily, and the breeder sold her to me for just the price of the cage. We've been together ever since!. |

That's my kind of girl. Really stuck on herself, hehe. You are really beautiful. I can be the jealous type. My dad had Sammy for awhile and I was jealous of him. Dad gave him to a friend at work because he just fell in love with her and she has other birds too. He didn't do well here, he was a breeder bird and just had a hard time with all men, not just my dad. So dad gave him a better life with someone Sammy really liked. A member of my favorite online bird group recently took under her wing (pun!) a finch with two broken legs, who was abandoned by his breeder at her store. Hi Tiki, My mom just got done doing an update on my last two vet visits. It wasn't good. I rebroke my wing last week so we start over again. I have a larger cast on my wing so I can't move it much. The vet is waiting longer between visits to give my wing time to heal and be immobilized longer. I keep wanting to flapp and exercise my wings. I go back to the vet next Friday, 26th. I will have my mom post an update then. Hope you are doing well. Thank you for visiting me Tiki. I hope all goes well for me too on Friday. I'm really scared about loosing my wing. If my wing does heal, the vet said I won't be able to use it for flying. If you can get along in life for 12 years with your feet and legs, I guess I will learn how to adjust too. My first year and a half of life has been pretty tough so far. Awww! I also agree that all birds need a home. Special needs birds are just as perfect as any other bird. Tiki is such a great bird and gardian. You and Tiki have such a strong relationship. She protects you very well.

What a beautiful bird! Hurray for special needs birds! We have a dove that we got from the SPCA that had to be seperated from the other doves because she was picked on and had seizures. But now that she is on a proper diet there doesn't seem to be any problems. She bosses the other two tiels in her cage around! We also took on a 20 year old Amazon and 20+ year old Moluccan cockatoo that needed homes and some rehab. Nothing beats seeing how far they have come and they never cease to amaze you every day. My Sun Conure is very protective of her Sprout (Quaker) and will alert me to anyone that comes in or near the two of them. Nothing passes by her! Come visit me, Griffy, Griffin, Jou (lutino) and Hawk (White-face), Sprout, Peanut, Lilly, Ozzie, Boo & Goose.

I'm sooo happy for you and mom. It's wonderful to see such caring people so willing to go out of their way for us. I also have a foot problem. Momma sat on me wrong in the nest and now I have a constricter toe(?). One of my toes doesn't work properly, but I get around... Come visit me, Marvin.

Hey there, Tiki! It's Ozzy...I loved the part about you being the Queen and you sleeping on your back under peacock feathers. I'm the King of my house and my owner makes a happy hut for me out of a baby's fleece blanket over my rope perch on top of my cage and that's where I go to play with my foot toys. My owner loves to buy baby fleece for me and my favorite color is green (like me!).
