Hi! My name is Wind

I am from Ann Arbor, MI.

windy

11 years old   F

spray millet, stripped off of the stem (strange, I know- she won't eat it otherwise!)

her home is her castle (24" x 36" x 36"), where she happily resides with Sky

sometimes Skybird, but she's normally easygoing

She gave me a huge cage with toys and branches to chew and a boyfriend to boot!

she's very brave, to the point of danger, and chews everything!.

When in doubt, check it out!.

How did Halloween go? Did you have very many trick-or-treaters? Here, they trick-or-treat so incredibly early, compared to where I used to live. Full daylight, they start at like 5:30. Just seemed a bit strange to me. I always thought the best part when I went was going around in the crisp, night air, but I am guessing not many people feel that way!

  Painting!!! :)
Oooooooh, painting!!! That's fun! We've all been good here. Mom just had bunion surgery on her second foot last Tuesday, so she's hobbling around on crutches or with her walker again, which is pretty funny! So is the painting done? Mom & Grandma are pretty much obsessed with paint chips right now. They're planning on repainting the entire house sometime within the next year, so there are paint chips EVERYWHERE. I'm so glad to hear from you! How is Sky? ♥Coconut

Hi!! It's good to hear from you! We haven't been on here all week. Bentley & I are doing really well. I've even let him in my cage! Wow, Mom's been doing housecleaning lately too. Did you enjoy your treats that you got? Yum, I love snacks! I have found that I really like Rice Krispies. I make a big mess with them! Well, I hope you're used to your clean house by now! Ours isn't there yet, but it will be soon! Have a great day! ♥Coconut

  Wow!
A Hummingbird, huh??? You're lucky to have seen one! We've never seen one down here. And I bet your house is beautiful with all of the flowers inside! It must be lovely to be surrounded by them! Guess what? Bentley taught me how to wolf-whistle. I'm pretty good at it too! He gets really excited in the mornings if Mom doesn't take him out into the living room quick enough, and he yells & yells for her. She told me that I had to help calm him down, so I have been doing that, and I just started to wolf-whistle at him. I think he liked it. Well, I hope you have a great day!!! ♥ Coconut

We've been neglecting bird channel too. No particular reason, we've just been crazy around here lately! Boy, we've had some wierd weather here in Florida cause of this subtropical storm. It was so hot down here for a while, and then all of a sudden it dropped into the 60's! It was awful! No warning or anything. We've been getting some thunderstorms too, but I like thunderstorms - especially when I'm riding in the car, because I act like I'm taking a bath, but I'm not really getting wet. Mom laughs at me when I do that. Yuck - all that stuff that's supposed to be good for us birdies. I'll pick at greens, but I don't really eat them. I just like my seed. But Mom says that's ok, cause I'm so active it doesn't cause me to gain weight. Well, have a great day!!! Congratulations to your kitties on getting Cat(s) of the week!!! You must be proud of them! ♥Coconut

  Hi Windy!!!
I hope you're doing well!!! Yes, I am eating Bentley's food in that picture. He gets the same food as I do, but somehow it tastes better when it's in his cage. I've never had lychee! I don't like too many fruits or veggies either. Mom wishes I'd eat them, and she keeps on trying to get me to eat them, but I just don't want to. Yes, it's getting hot down here. But it's still cool (meaning in the 60's or 70's, although that's probably hot to you!) at night. When it gets really hot my Mom will take me out onto the back porch in my cage & let me take a bath out there, which I love. I don't like it when it's too hot, though. But, oh well! Not gonna get away from the heat living in Florida! Well, I hope you have a wonderful day! I'll talk to you soon :) ~Coconut

It is still very warm here, hot really. We are saving energy here, as well, by hanging the clothes on the line. How are the seven pets you are taking care off? What color border collie? Ours are both black and white, but for some reason most other border colllies I see are other colors. Except for the ones in clothing magazines. Border collies are so photogenic, they seem to squeeze them in tons of pistures to make everything smart and streamlined. That sounds like a very cool biulding. At the very least they should salvalge anything useable from it before knocking it down. Is it anywhere near a highway or a town? I know of several buildings like that,(well not exactly like that, but you know what I mean), that are now museum type things. If you could research and find anything interesting about it and its history, then that would help. Of course, if it is not knew a highway or anything, this idea might not work. I so wish I could have an avairy. I have seen several that were built off a shed. You attach the wire to the sides and remove the door to the shed, and then can attach the heater to the inside, so the birds can go in and out. Then they can stay out there for even more of the year, except when it is really cold.

:) "forgetting" to order the round cages!!! She sounds awesome. Bentley's old cage is in the garage - Mom says she's going to destroy it before throwing it in the garbage cause she doesn't want anyone to be able to reuse it ever. She is really excited about smashing it! Oh, it is so great to have Bentley around. I've been visiting him in his cage this morning. Well, gotta go find some more mischief to get into! Oh, round cages are the worst. Mommy Jennifer says that I have to help Bentley learn how to do everything. I've been a very good girl with him so far. I think he's learning very fast! He's been with us a week, and he's learned lots of new things, but he's got a lot to learn still too. Poor little birds that don't have homes like ours! It's so sad to think about how many there are out there with owners that either don't know any better or don't care. Boy, are we lucky to have Moms like yours & mine!!! Life sure is good! ♥ ~Coconut

Sorry, computer problems again. We are getting a new one this summer, which is fortuantly not that far off. (yay!) How are things up there? It has gotten warmer here today, and is currently 84 outside. I took Yo-yo out a little bit ago in his flight suit, to get some vitamin D. He loves going outside! Frank can go out sometimes in a flight suit, but only if he is in the mood. So usually he and and the budgies go out in their respective carriers. Yo-yo is learning to shake, though it is not working very well. He will lift up is foot onto your finger on cue, but because of his leg problems from his previous life, it does not look much like shake. Oh well, he is an amazing flyer now, and does recall quite well.

I guess the site was having problems, cause I couldn't reply to you! And, guess what? I DO have a new bird at my house! My Moms rescued him at a garage sale - can you believe it!?!?!? I'm so glad that he came to live with us, though. Mom was concerned that I might be upset, but knew that she had to give him a better life than he had. But I haven't been upset at all. I really like having another bird! I want to be his friend so badly, but he's still adjusting & not really paying me much attention. He'll come around!!! How have you & your friends been?   I did not know there where those laws in Ireland. We have always carried cloth bags whenever we shop anywhere, but I am pretty sure if you had to PAY to use the store bag, then most people would carry their own. I do not think we would ever get a law that you had to pay for each bag of trash in America. Do not get me wrong, I think it is a great idea, we recycle everything we can, and try not to use stuff we can not recycle, but I do not think anything that involves more work will happen. With that law it would make people actually count bags, very difficult. (I think I must be a snob with you! oh dear). I feed my birds pellets, but the prefer fresh food, and I have noticed since I put the budgies and Yo-yo together that they eat everything, whether they have seen it before of not. I guess it brings out the "must get food for myself instinct" to have acouple of birds vying for the food. They prefer their fresh food to pellets, and to seeds almost! The only thing they do not really relish is mung been sprouts. Thye love all other sprouts, but some how mung beens do not suit them or something. Frank is a pickier eater, but he has gotten much better, he absolutly loves melon. Yo-yo will eat all kinds of greens before anything else. I just love it everytime I have a new kind to give him. What seed mix do you give your birds? I have tried different ones, and I was looking for a tried and true good one that did not contain sunflour seeds because of Frank. I figure I can buy sunflower seed seperatly to adjust how much they get. I did not want to make my own, though I could, because I do not have very many birds at the moment.

Sylvan is great. About our neighbor, no offense taken. I am sure what I have said about him is even worse! Somtimes Hope or Pobbins have gotten really sick off of what they put out. I mean we try to kepp them over here, but they can smell the food, so it is like trying to stop an avalanche when they door opens, if something has been put out. Our dogs used to scare of any other animal, and can still keep some of them away if they bark, but it is not as effective. Plus, like you said, barking is annoying, so we do not let her do it unless we really see something. She might get let out then, because she will usually come right back after she has chased it off to tell you about it. I do fell sorry for dogs that bark all the time for attention. I think soemtimes, (I do not know about your neighbors dog, I am just talking in general) the more they bark, they more they are mistreated and ignored, the more they bark, ect. So sad.

  Bird misconceps
I can not believe any one would sell animals in a catolog! Choice of green or blue? That is so upsetting. It is sad that so many pretty little animals used to be sold simply as decoration. I did not know that was why Petco did not have any larger birds. Another thing I think is important is that if you see a sick bird, you should not buy it. After all, if they would keep an animal in that state, why should they care what your motive fro buying the bird is? I think calling the SPCA is a better option, hopefully they can do something. I hate the attitude even some supposed "bird" people have about budgies and teils- that they are just little birds that any idiot can have, and that they are stupid, and not "real" parrots, ect. It really annoys me! A budgie is just as much a cool bird as anything if you treat it as one. Something I just thought of-it used to be common practice to have chicks and ducks in Easter baskets, though of course most of them died of starvation, because who feeds a toy? Worst part, they would inject the egg with color so the chicks came out pink or blue or something! Yuck, they doom the creature to a horrible excitance right there, the dyes are very harmful to their bodies.

  Animal care
I am serious! Several times I have heard of people who got budgies, or if their parents had unlimited amounts of money, bigger birds, as party decoration or decor for the home! And what is worse, decor gets a cage that is sold in a decor catolag, you know, little pagoda shaped thing totally unfit for anything but, uh, decoration. Oh, and by the way, I shop at a few petsmarts sometimes for food and such, but I have been in two PETCOs, and both had seriously sick birds. Also, PETCOs all have the same cage layout, and I do not know when the last time you were in there, but it is seriously screwed. The birds are like in ten-gallon tanks, and the budgies and teils are in glass cages set in the middle of the walk way! Very upsetting.

Oh, you are so true! And nope, I didn't think you meant she has a big ego or is crazy! Although I think she's a little nuts sometimes, myself, hee hee. Yeah, she got her boot off a week ago & I lost a perch. But, she did just get me a "Patio" that hooks onto the back of my cage that I love! I only get to use it at home though. Yeah, actors around here are really...egotistical & mean. My Mom would never be mean to anyone. I hope you have a great week!

Yes, it's like that here too. We have six community theatres in the area, and then the King Center for the Performing Arts which touring shows are booked at. My favorite times in theatre were when we performed melodrama dinner theatres when I was 10 or 11, in a warehouse with patchwork curtains, and the audience was given bags of popcorn to eat & throw onto the stage when the villain would appear. Lately, the theatre that I have been at for most of my performing, has gotten so high-tech, and so into making money, that it hasn't been as fun. I miss the warehouse days, with lots of friends & family present. So, right now I'm on a short hiatus to get my feet fixed anyway, and to...realign my theatrical priorities, I guess you could say. But, around here, there is a huge rivalry between the directors for all of the theatres, and some of the actors who are into that kind of thing. Is it like that there? I hope it's not like that everywhere... It's chilly down here in Florida, but it must be FREEZING in Ann Arbor! Stay warm!

My Mom has done those three musicals also, but they did not have very good memories with them...actually, that's one of the reasons why Copacabana was her favorite, because she had all great memories from it. Do they have summer theatre in MI? Where you get college credit although you're in high school, & go to rehearsals during the week for about 5 weeks & then perform the show at the end of it? She used to have a lot of fun in those shows too.

a slinky, a slinky, oh what a wonderful toy!
My Mom said the hardest part of the surgery was getting up & mobile again. She had to stay home for two weeks & "not go anywhere except for to the bathroom" according to her Doctor, and that's what she did. But then, getting up & using crutches after that, she was really weak, so it took her a couple of weeks to build up her stamina again. On her next foot, whenever she gets it done, she said she's gonna lay in bed & do leg lifts & exercises, so she won't lose so much muscle & will still be a little bit active. Make sure to tell her to find a good Doctor too, my Mom searched & searched, and then found the perfect Doctor for her only twenty minutes away! I'm excited that it's almost Friday, because that means I get to be home all weekend, and sleep in a little late!

  walking...
Yes, my Mom can walk. She's got a boot on that she had to wear after her surgery too, just until she gets her "one stitch" out of her foot from removing the screw. I think she might put a picture up of me perching on the tip of her boot...I like to sit there when she puts her foot up at work :) When she had her surgery, she was on crutches for 6 weeks, & then had to wear the boot & walk with it for two more weeks. She learned how to get around on that boot really well, so now she's not having any problems with it...except for making a clomping noise... :) She saw these parakeets the other day who had slinkys in their cage, that they would land on & bounce. Do you have any slinkys?
Have a wonderful day!
