Hi! My name is Tuki

I am a Congo African Grey from Columbia, MO.

25 years old   F

Congo African Grey

Tuki loves peanuts, and home baked birdie bread, complete with egg shells, fruit, and nuts, YUM! She also loves cooked pasta and cooked sweet potatoes.

Tuki loves her outdoor perch lovingly built by her "sister" Sarah and Sarah's dad. She also loves her portable indoor perch so she can spend time with the people she owns.

Does not like fast moving hands, and still does not trust the cat.

I love the home made treats that I get. I really like noodles, bananas, and that tastey home baked bread I get now and then.

As soon as we sit down to eat, she says over and over, "did you eat your supper?". She also makes a very loud ringing sound when Dad comes home from work..

Treat owning your pets as a
privilege not a right.

Hi Tuki, I don't know exactly how you and I got separated, but I'm so sorry about that. It was probably between all of Mommy's traveling in her job (which she doesn't have anymore) and my Daddy having cancer the past year and a half. Things got pretty hectic what with all the visits for radiation everyday and then the chemo every week. But, hey, Praise the Lord! Daddy is all better now. He's still not back to work because he developed neuropathy in his hands and feet from the chemo. So his feet hurt a lot when he stands on them for any length of time. They even hurt when he doesn't stand on them.

Have your parronts rescued or adopted any new birds lately? We have a sort-of new bird in our house. After little Daisy's terrible accident, Mommy needed to find another feathered baby who needed a home. He's a re-homed little guy that Mommy adopted last April. His name is Finnegan and he's an ekkie. Actually his name WAS Simon, but Mommy thought he needed a new name for a new life and she thought he looked more like a Finnegan than a Simon. He's about 2 1/2 yrs. old and has been a wonderful addition to our family. He's so friendly to everyone who comes in the door, but Mommy is still his favorite. He has never bitten anyone and is just very affectionate. However, he doesn't like his back touched, so Mommy can't pet him. She can stroke his tummy a little and can even touch his wings a bit, but not his head or back. Any suggestions? Well, I want to wish you and your family the very best new year ever, filled with good health, happines and as many blessings as our Good Lord can shower on you. Our family sends our love to all of you. Vote 4 U! Big Hugs from Little Lucy and Finnegan

Dear Tuki,

I hope you had a wonderful day, a day that makes a grey feel greyt. May the blessings of the day, fill your hearts with joy that lingers through the coming year.
I have spent most of my waking hours shredding paper. You wouldn't believe the mess I made. Pringle even came and helped me for awhile, until I looked at her, that being the cue for her to leave.
I'm now settling down for a good preening session after some serious flying which thoroughly wore me out.
Mama and I got a wonderful gift, a new backpack carrier that Mama says is much more comfortable for her than my old one. As long as I'm comfortable, I'm fine. I've even been in it and it's not all that scary.

A very Merry Christmas to you and yours,

Kelly here with a hug for you. (((hug))) I'm hoping all is well with you and your family and that the summer has been a kind one. Hard to believe that the Autumn of 2009 is already several days into its show. I can honestly say I'm glad I don't change colors this time of year; I really don't think yellow or orange would look as good on me. And for crying out loud, I'm glad I don't molt like a maple tree!! Hope all is well with you. Mom still has 4 weeks left with the cast on her arm but at least it doesn't hurt so much now. She is managing to do most things and Dad helps with the stuff she can't do. I am helping as well. Just yesterday I helped by pointing out that the floor needed sweeping. I told them, "look at this place, what a mess." After all, there was seeds and bird pellets all over the floor. Hehehe.

  Hi Tuki
Well it has been a while since my last fly by. I have been thinking about you a lot. How are you doing? Have you got the 'feather' habit under control? I am actually doing better. I still barber a little but not so much and once again I have grey feathers on my neck and some on my upper breast instead of just the fluffy ones. Mom is holding her breath, waiting to see if I leave them alone. Hehehe. As for me, I am playing it cool. There is plenty of time to decide if I want to leave them be or give myself a feather cut. Hope all is well with you my friend. MM VFU

Kelly here! I'm in luck today- I have command of the computer so am making a big ol' swoop of the BC to visit a bunch of friends I've not said hi to for a while. Trust your spring is winding up nicely and you're ready for the summer season to start. (It is technically still spring, amazingly enough.) We've had a very cool spring here in IL, a nice change, according to what I hear my parronts saying. You ask me, it could've been a little warmer. There were lots of days I couldn't go out to the aviary because it was just a little too cool for a bird from Africa! Mom assures me that next week is going to feel a bit more like the Savanna so I'm countin' on lots of hours in the aviary. That means spray baths (I'm okay with those), fruit kabobs (it doesn't matter how messy I am outside!) and loads of vitamin D. I'll also get to work on my imitation of the weed eater, the birds at the feeders, and the neighbor lady yelling "Geooooorge?" Fun!

Before I go, I'd like to leave an invitation to visit the hatchday page. Come see if any birdie's celebrating today and if so, click on their avatar in my BC Aviary to be whisked to their page where you can wish them a Happy Day. Hope you will... I know they'd love a visit from you.

  Hi Tuki
Thanks for stopping by. The weather here has been very wet. Not that we are complaining as we needed the rain soooo much. No flooding near us I am happy to report but there has been some at the coast. It seems we either have no rain at all or more than we can handle. It is supposed to be getting better for the weekend and the return of the sun will be most welcome. Mom and I are not fond of grey and gloomy day times. Heck, if we wanted that we would have stayed in England. Hehehe. VFY. MM

You've got new pictures too! Your flower garden is just beautiful and you look ever so pretty among the blooms. I've said it before but I'll say it again; I think your Fluff is so darling, so soft and cuddly looking. I'm sure you'd rather not have it but you're pretty in 'ruffles'.
I'm enjoying a fine sunny Spring day in my aviary today. It's a little breezy but that should blow some of this darn dander away. Yesterday while I was out here mom drenched me good with the Mr. Bottle. I've come to tolerate that pretty well. Used to be I skee-daddled when I saw that annoying thing coming but anymore I just stay put. I'll get hunted down anyway... might as well sit tight and get it over with, right?! On occasion I even flap my wings really hard, allowing a good soaking on the underside. Have to admit, it feels good to be cleaner.
You still on the Prozac for Parrots? I hope it's the magic potion that calms your concerns. So glad you stopped by. Your IL Friend ~ K *v*

I am very sorry to hear that you plucked your tail again...what is it about it that you dont like my dear! If that medicine allows your beautiful feathers to stay put and grow, then I agree with your mum that it needs to stay also! Yep- our weather has been getting cooler but we still havent much rain and we really need it. I am glad that you are getting outside and feeling some warmth from the sun and some breeze through your's just the way it should be for us birdies! Well, it's been a very sad week over here- mum had to go away for a few days because a friend of hers passed away. I wasn't very happy cos we have never been apart and I never want to be again loves me like my mum! She said that every morning she was especially thinking of me cos big, huge flocks of wild Rosies would come and settle in the gum trees and remind her of how much she was missing me! Aaaw!! Now that she is back, I have surgically attched myself to her hand and I wont get off. Nope, no way...I gotta make sure she doesn't do the bolt again EVER. Gotta keep flying cos I have to play catch up, sorry for the generic note but mum is running about a week behind.....Love Jack av4u2. PS- I have just heard that my beautiful little Amazon friend Cuca (no. 122900) has suddenly flown to the Rainbow bridge. Maybe you could stop by her page and help to say goodbye- her parronts are devastated and very very sad. Her passing has left a very big hole n their hearts.

Nice to hear from you my friend. What a shame to have pulled your tail out again. So more birdy prozac for you. Well if it helps you keep clam then that is a good thing. As for me I barber off and on. I currently have some new feathers on my breast (were I practice my barbaring skills) which I have left alone but who knows for how long. Anyway, I am glad you are enjoying the spring. The weather here has been very hot. More like summer then spring and we need rain soooo much. At least we did get some showers to day. MM

I'm so pleased to read that your tail is making a bit of a comeback, a return that might be due, in part, to the Prozak. (who would've believed that would be prescribed for a birdie, huh?!) Here's hoping your progress continues.
Like you, I've been able to enjoy a little outdoor sun-time. The temps are good today but the wind is ridiculous so not going outside for me. I'd be plastered up against the side of the pen, hollering for rescue service. From your porch picture, it appears there's wooded ground around your home. That would surely attract lots of wild birds to keep you entertained. As I'm surrounded by agricultural fields, there are few trees for the birdies- only the ones this tiny cluster of homes have planted over the years. We're now a small island of tress in the midst of lots of dirt. We're more like a way station for passing flocks! Good thing I know how to say 'See ya later!'
Chat with YOU later too... K *v*

I would love to tell you that I've been good....but, know me- TROUBLE and MISCHIEF follow me everywhere ALL the time! heeheehee. My list of naughtiness has grown to epic proportions, so I'll just pick out some of the best to tell you about. Here goes....I ate the stinky mutt and tossed his whole bowl of good-o's across the kitchen floor and up the hallway, I tossed a full cup of coffee over mum's pile of clean laundry, I dropped yukkie broccoli on the unsuspecting kitty and then she groomed herself and threw up all over mum's carpet, I bit a big hole in the fly wire on the window, I got to the peanut container and helped myself to most of the macadamia and almonds so now there are just crumbs (heeheehee), I did an autopsy on mum's good sofa and found it doesnt breathe cos it's only full of foam and I discovered how to make confetti out of mum's new book - I dont know why she was cross about that one cos it was only borrowed from the library- it's not like I DESTROYED her property or anything!!! Well, I gotta keep flying cos I've got a lot of squawking to do- please excuse the generic message, but I've got to catch up on the last two weeks. Well, it's good to know that's an option for us birds should the need ever arise here. That you're hurting yourself is not good so let's hope this med helps.) As for us Greys being 'different'.... what exactly was the Doc trying to say, anyway? I think he deserves BOTM for his wisdom and strengths. He is a very quiet kind of bird but very loyal. He was my first really good friend that I met here on the BC. His mom is a wonderful person who can't spend a lot of time on the computer to campaign for him so I have dedicated myself as his campaign manager. I did it for him when I got him elected BOTW.   Hi Tuki
Well, I was in big today. Talk about being in the dog house and we don't even have a dog! It all started when I got the urge to have my meals outside my cage. I worked out that I could open the food bowl doors from the outside. So, I just work my way down the cage pop the door open, perch on the bowl and dine. That was sort of OK. Mom and Dad thought it was clever and cute for a while but then Mom was not so keen. Something about the mess on the floor where I would drop or throw my food. Then I realised that the bar that keeps the food bowl in place was no longer there once the door was open. So all I had to do was stand on the door and I could then work the bowl out of the holder in the door and throw it on the floor. This was just so entertaining! I throw the bowl, it falls to the floor, it makes a BIG noise, the contents made a pretty pattern on the floor and wall. If there is company they laugh. What total fun! I was hooked. I would take ever opportunity to toss my food bowls. Well, Mom was not at all amused by my new pass time. She kept telling me that it was not to be done. She took to watching me and as soon as she saw me heading down my cage to open the food bowl door she would walk over and put me back on my perch. Problem is, by this time I am completely addicted to the bowl tossing thing. I finally manage to sneak down open the door and BANG, bowl and food on the floor. Well, Mom came over looking very firm and said 'Right,I've had enough.' and that is when I knew I was in trouble. I should have know. All the signs where there. Mom had already said 'I'm not having any of this Monty May' and 'Keep it up and you will be in big trouble Madam'. All obvious signs that Mom is near breaking point. Still the sight of the bowl spinning in the air, reflect light back at me as it fell to the floor. The almost bell like quality of the clang as it hits the tiles. The spray of the bowls contents, each time making a unique pattern on the tile floor. Beautiful! So I did time! Yes me, cage time and that wasn't the worst of it. Mom ignored me! ME! Oh it was terrible. Even my most pathetic 'baby' cheeps did not work like the usually do. It was the worst 10 minutes of my life. Thank goodness that is all over and Mom is back to making a fuss over me. Of course that bowl is still tempting. Hehehe. MM

Mum says it is very windy in Melbourne today- she nearly did a Mary Poppins impersonation while trying to ride her bicycle hom from the shops! This is great weather for drying washing, but there was a big fire alert yesterday- the Vic Police sent out mass warning messages on mobile phones! There are still four big fires burning, so we are hoping this wind doesnt make them worse- it is a relentless situation for our wildlife. As King for the week- my first duty is to inform you that there will be a celebration of sorts (Castle Games) later in the week. This will only require an hour of your time and if you are interested in participating, then please let me know. Some of the events will include the Regatta around the Moat (boats supplied by Poirot), Crown Rolling competition and How Far can the Butler Fly comp. Thanks for all your support this last week - you are all wonderful!!....Love Jack av4u2

Come visit me, Tico, SECURITY ...GRRRR, Jack..goodbye BC mates, thanks for all the love !, Apollo & Mr BB and Honey.

OOOOOO- do we get to read your competition entry then? Good luck with that darling, I really hope that you win! Thankyou so very much for EMBRACING THE PINK this week, I am grateful for your support. Good news! Today we had a little rain and the weather is quite cool- mum is hoping it will provide enough relief to really help those firmen snuff the rest of them out. I did some crumpet tossing on the dog today...boy is that flea-bag one dumb mutt. Any one with even half a brain would just sit there with his mouth open and let the food fall in- but NO....he just lay there and let it happen! Mum says I should leave him alone cos he's old, but I say NO WAY- everyone and everything in MY way is fair game! heeheehee....Love Jack av4u2

Come visit me, Tico, SECURITY ...GRRRR, Jack..goodbye BC mates, thanks for all the love !, Apollo & Mr BB and Honey.
