  Hi Sonny Van der Beek
Hey, it is really nice to meet you. I see you are partial to your dad! I think I would be too but sometimes my dad does something wrong (he just doesn't get it) and I bite him. That makes him not want to cuddle with me. But Mom sure likes to cuddle. I wait till Dad's asleep then I cuddle him and he doesn't even know it - unless he starts to move or somethin.

What is your most favorite thing to do? Mine is to ride on mom's shoulder, sit on her glasses and preen her eyebrowns or cuddle under her blouse.

Have a great new year and will see you around. I don't get on the puter much anymore cause Mom can't keep the internet explorer program from crashing all the time, and she said she doesn't have time to refresh it by reinstalling it. I'm surprised it's lasted this long. See you soon, Angel

Sonny, it's nice to meet you. I am so glad I helped you find your identity as a Sonny and not a Sunny. I am staying with Aunt Maria and Uncle Dave for a few months while my mother's brother recovers from a bone marrow transplant. He has no immune system and can't be near dander. I love it here. There are 2 other birdies and the people just love me to death and take me out and play with me and talk to me and we do stuff around the house together. So what Pickles wants to tear my head off. I am having the time of my life. So nice to meet you, Sonny and I'll be chatting with you soon. Happy turkey day. Sonny

  Hey Sonny!
How are you my brother in conuraderie! I'm so happy you stopped by my page! Yes, I am quite the feathered Houdini if you ask mom- I can bend my head back pretty far so she can itch right under my beak. She says it's more "The Exorcist" than Houdini but whatever- tomato, toe-mah-toe.
How've you been? How's your summer going? Are you keeping those sneaky Senegals in line? I'm doing great- really enjoying the weather and the sunshine and going all sorts of places with mom. I even went to the Farmer's Market with her a few times! She treated me to breakfast each time I went so it wasn't too hard to convince me to get up so early.
Well, gotta go for now. I'm sure we'll squawk very soon! Take care Sonny! Love ya too, buddy!!

Hiya -- It's only me on for now. It was pretty easy to go incognito because we moved to Sandia, Texas. And to be sure you have heard all our news, we lost Loverboy about 2 months before we moved (and it turned out from the necropsy that he was probably nearer his late thirties than his early twenties, and he kept getting pneumonia-like episodes because he had some sort of physical debris in his lungs. What it was was not identified in the necropsy.) And we lost ErinAmber on the trip down to Texas (long story, and we are trying not to blame anyone, but we do feel the employees of the company we hired to help were at fault).

However, it was hard to follow Kiddo's parents story without being on BC, so mom put me back on so we wouldn't have to bug Kiddo's mom to keep us informed.

Mom says if she ever gets everything cleaned up after the move, she will put us all back on BC. I am playing a reserve position for Da Pois'n'dem and we LOVED MR. TIM. And we are grieving for his loss.

Mangita bugs me daily to tell you that she would love to have a dance with you, but mom tells her that everything is still too unsettled.

Two of mom's first cousins -- that we consider sister/cousins because they grew up next door to mom --were visiting this week, when we learned that their much older brother had brain cancer, and lung cancer. Very scary, but it was good that we were all together when we heard.

Our mom and your mom communicate sometimes (they are both friends with Aunt Joyce - Beavis' mom), so we heard about your Dad and we have been keeping him in our prayers.

Thanks for coming by -- let's keep in touch.

It's the McConures. We thought we'd come by and hang out with you while your Papa was, you know, away. We bet you're really worried and thought maybe you could use a distraction while you wait for him to get back home.

Riza says, "I'll preen your neck if you'd like."

Jensen says, 'We could throw some stuff on the floor. Kirby could practice his catching and throwing by returning the goods to us, if we don't squish him first. he hee. Just kidding, Kirbs."

Zorro adds, "Let's having a screeching contest. There's nobody here to bother. If we holler loud enough, maybe your Papa will hear us and he'll know we're cheering for him"

Kirby says, "We could just sit still and let Sonny tells us what he feeling right now. Ya okay, Sonny?"

Okay, not quite the thrilling entrance that you made. I tried.

So, you, uh, don't smell like a bed of roses I hear. What's up with that? Where exactly, do you hang out during the day? You're not like a sock surfer-dude or somethin' are you? That could have a negative effect on your fragranceness. I hang out with Zoren so it's a wonder mom don't think I stink. Ha! Gotcha, Z-man. Just kiddin', Dude. I better not tease him or I'll be sleeping on the outside of the snuggie-tent. He and I cram our butts into one. Can you believe that? There's a second tent in our night cage here. It's Kirby's but he sleeps on the outside, in between the wall and the tent, with his beak hooked over the top. You know, I think us McConures are weird. Maybe there's not enough oxygen in the air this far north from the Florida beaches. *gasp ing for air* Oh wait, I can breath fine.

I'm sorry about things between you and Quin taking just a drastic turn. You two have been buddy-ol-pals for the longest time. Sounds as though you've adapted nicely though, finding an adequate substitute in your Papa. Lucky you, you've even got a back up plan; Mom! (Rubbing on her leg? How tall are you anyway? LOL!)

I'm really glad you stopped by. Being a part of this crazy big flock, us little pee-ons don't get as much BC time as I think we should have comin' to us. "Pee-ons?" Maybe I stink worse than anybody's been willing to tell me. Anyway, I'm super glad you stopped by. Truth; I've missed you. You're one cool dude, Sonny. Let's keep it that way.

And for the record, I told my mom those two very important words: BALSA WOOD. She said okay and went on with her cleaning task. Apparently she didn't like where I threw my blueberry skins

It's the Cay-MOOOOOSE's the tail feathers hangin'? I know what you mean about busy moms but at least they still have time for us! I guess we kinda demand it. Hehehe

Tonight I'm in bed with mama all snuggly in her hair while dictating what to write. Daddy's been traveling on business so each night we all get a turn for extra snuggle time. Although mom says Blanchie ain't much of a snuggler. She just sits on moms tummy getting her head scratched. Heaven forbid mom stops for an iota of a second. Then she runs and pushes up against moms hand for more. Sheesh, my fister is spoiled. And your mom says I'm a mama's boy? Well Buddha bird must be the princess. But she's ok. I guess. Sorta.

So, been making good use of that nice new screened patio? Sure has been purty outside! I'm going on three spray baths in a week...woo hoo! The "princess" still don't like to be sprayed even though, duh, she watches me have a great time splashing around. She prefers her water bowl but she ain't gettin all the nooks and crannies cuz her big booty doesn't fit all the way in! Lol!

Oh's Quin doing? We think of all of you often and luv ya mucho! (((hugs)))

So um…do by chance know how to get nacho cheese sauce out of feathers? On the top of your head? See um, mommy was eating um nachos last night, and um, she kinda sorta bit into a chip and I was kinda goofing off and um, the chip landed on my head, cheese side down. HEY, STOP THAT GIGGLING RIGHT NOW!

So yeah, mom tried to wipe the cheese off but ending up smearing it a little, and then I tried to shake it off, of which I succeeded in splashing some back in mom’s hair as payback! She tried to come after me with a wet towel but I was having none of that, no way, Jose! Well, problem is, it dried to my head feathers and now they’re all stiff and stuck together. Mom put me under the shower this morning and a bit more came out but well…I’m still a little cheesy. Daddy says I’m all ready for the Super Bowl because I’m a cheese head. Hehehehehe

Anywho, sorry Blanchie and I haven’t been on BC in a while. We missed you, though…most truly and dearly missed YOU! All is good here…just the usual business of flock life goin’ on. But we think of you often and your friendship always brings a smile to our face and a thank you to our beaks. Always the big hugs!

Happy New Year! Blanche and I just wanted to fly by and wish you all the best in 2011. All the best toys…all the best treats…and all the best perching spots in the sunshine!

We had a very busy holiday. Lots of family and friends who came to visit. Tons of good food. Blanche and I went to birdie camp while the parronts went to visit family for a few days. Blanche wasn’t too happy about being there but I don’t mind it cuz all the girls think I’m cute and cuddly. Blanche…wellllll…she’s not so cuddly. Unfortunately we have to go back in a few days while mom and dad take a trip on a big boat across the ocean. Even though my older skin sis and her boyfriend will be coming to stay with my younger skin sis while they’re gone, mom thought it was better for us to be watched by someone who was a bit more…er…um…. attentative, shall we say?

Last week I was acting a bit weird (feathers fluffed out, standing on one leg with sleepy eyes more often than usual) so mom took me to the vet. I was on antibiotics for a week as a precaution, but nothing came up on either test they did, and I’m back to my normal self now, so the vet said it might have been something mild I was fighting off or the fact that it’s was pretty darn cold here. Three days, in fact, of temperatures in the 20’s at night! In the 20 years mom has lived in Florida it’s never ever been that cold for such a long time. With the heater running all the time, mom put a humidifier in our room. And at night mom I had a heavy blanket on the back of my cage because I’m close to the window. But we’re back in the normal temps now and my attitude is back to normal as well. Mom says I probably had cabin fever! (hehehe)

Sooooo…after this last little vacation and mom gets back and all settled, we should be back on BC more often. I just wanted to stop by and say hello and I’ll fly back your way soon. (((BIG HUGS)))

P.S. How's Quin doing? You taking it easy on his feathers? Just remember, not everybirdie has the er, um..."energy" we do so be gentle grasshopper....

  Hi Sonny VDO...Blanche here!
Once again, excuse the copy/paste…mom gets Caymus and I so behind and then this is what we’re left to do. It’s not like we keep her that busy…ok, so yeah we do. (hehe) So my toe, uh, yeah, half of it’s gone. The circulation at the tip was just too bad and the little bugger just fell off on it’s own. There’s still some dead skin on there, mom can tell, but it’s doesn’t seem to really bother me and I’m keeping up my good spirits so I’m still on track to go for my vet check-up on Saturday. Mom, on the other hand is not a happy camper. She’s been concentrating more now on the fact that all this happened from a nail trim. So far the owner has been wonderful and helped with medical bills, but I have health insurance so mom didn’t worry about it too much. But now that this experience is (hopefully) winding down, mom’s got a whole series of pictures of what I’ve had to deal with over the past month and is going to ask the owner to instill in her employees what exactly can happen from even one mistake. That when working on a birds feet, to NOT take phone calls, talk to other employees or look away for even a second. And that if a bird has their feet in that tight of grip, then to wait and try again in a few minutes while the bird relaxes, or advise the parront that the bird is too stressed and should be taken to a vet to have the job done instead. (uh oh…I sense mom’s blood pressure going up…better change the subject)

As evidence of my happy mood I took a bath this weekend! And oh did I splash! Mom rolls my playstand into the center of the tile whenever my bath time mood strikes but I set a new record for water splash-zone distance. Once, that foolish cat tried to run past but I got him gooooood! I was having a heck of a time sufficiently soaking my backside so for the first time EVER I let mom spray me. Since it was in the low 70’s outside, mom made sure to keep me in the direct sunshine until all my feathers dried. Plopped on a chair on the uncovered part of the patio and thought we would melt.

Gotta get along to the next page…we’ve got a squash baking in the oven and I’m anxious for lunch. Big Amazon (((hugs))) to you!

  Hiya Sonny!
Thanks for stopping by to visit me! I wish we could've met at Caymus and Blanche's BBQ- the conures were out in full force that day! You sound like a cool Sun and I'm sure we'd be good friends. Hopefully we'll get a chance to hang out one day. I need to expand my conure social circle- currently it consists of that crazy Nanday Mischa and the two foster Nandays mom took in a year ago and has yet to "rehome". I'll concede that it really isn't her fault- the rescue she volunteered with folded and she couldn't put those two birds out on the street.. mom's a real sucker for a needy parrot. So here we are a year later, still looking for a home for them because they're steadily making Mischa nuttier by the day.. and mom too as the screaming level increases.
Well, off I go to make mischief before mom comes home. She's cleaning cages tonight so I have to make sure and give her some work! Take care my friend! Squawk to you soon!

Ok, Blanche told me that your mom told my mom that it's ok if her toe fell off! Can you believe that??? Then my mom tried to explain that "it wouldn't change the beautiful birds we are inside," and both Blanche and I think our moms are NUTS!!!! What, does she think, Blanche would just be able to stick her poor, detached toe under her perch and the Toe Fairy will come to exchange it for a toy??? Really? Do we look that gullible? Sonny, I'd be careful if I were you or pretty soon your whole flock will be little Captain Hooks, but with feathers. (shaking head) Humans...see toes (wiggle, wiggle) good for holding nutriberries, apples, grapes, broccoli, pellets, toys, mom's hair, napkins, perches, peanuts, fingers, ears, t-shirts...shall I go on? My philosophy is "toes, they do a birdy good!" Sleep with one eye open, Son...I'm here for ya man! Waving bye for now (with ALL of my toes).

I'm suprised she remembers who I am! hehehe Poor mommy needs a break. Anywho, I wanted to fly by and say hello. Wish you were comin' dude...there will be two other conures there (including another Sun!) and we could rule the roost! hehehe

So there's a pic of ME in your living room? What do ya do with it, throw darts at it every time I tell a joke of the day? I'm glad your mama thinks I'm cute even though I'm a big chicken when it comes to anyone but mom and dad. Blanche will probably warm up to her if your mom doesn't get scared off by my fisters imitation of a pirate (arrrrgh!). Then again, perhaps your mom could bribe me with sneakin' me some food? My conure in arms! How goes it with my sunnie friend? I tell ya, it took being the Prince of the BC for me to get some BC time and Man, this has been awesome, getting to write to all my friends and some new ones too. Can't we be Kings once a week or somethin'? This is more like it. I was on mom's shoulder so much today, I managed to chew an almond-sized hole in her shirt. Normally I wouldn't be allowed to chew on even an old shirt just because it's believed I'm not smart enough to tell which shirts are the good ones. They're ALL good ones to me... Good ones for chewing on! I got to hang out with mom for as long as I'd stay put but when the keyboard or the mouse began to look more interesting, it was back to my room for a break. After a little snack and a drink at the bar, it was back up to be with mom. See why I'm likin' this day so much? It ROCKED!

It really rocked because I got to come by and see you. Thanks, Man, for the vote. It's gonna take me far, I just know it. Looking forward to lookin' back at you from the winner's window tomorrow. Until then, catch some sleep for me.

No need to blush you handsome devil! I'd L-O-V-E to dance with you...ANYTIME! I haven't had a regular dance partner for quite some time now myself, and I am a dancer at heart. This Saturday is pretty much up in the air as to whether Mom will be home in time to get me to the Milonga, but I DO want to go. I will try very hard to get there but if you do not see me, it's certainly NOT because I don't want to dance with you....I really do!
I made Mom mark on the calender for the Sept. 11 Milonga so she does not make other unimportant human plans, so I will most definitely be at that one. Will that work for you?
Life is good here as usual, though a couple of other birds seem to be getting just a teensy weensy bit more attention than me lately, no worries, I'll get over it.......eventually, hehehe. I so hope all is well with you and your flock too.
I am wishing as much as a bird can wish that Mom's party ends early Saturday, if not cutie pie, I'll be dancing with you in my dreams.

p.s. would you mind giving Major Snager a big Sennie hug for your adorable conure style :)>

  Let's play "guess that birdie!"
Hi Sonny, how are you doing this fine day? It was a very eventful weekend at our nest. I got a visitor yesterday and she was of the feathered variety. This bird’s foster parronts brought her over to see how she’d interact with our flock. Well she didn’t really care about me or the cats…she watched us but wasn’t scared. And she loooooooved the patio when mom took her outside. Unlike me, who wants to climb and bounce and be moving all the time, she just wanted to sit there and soak up the sun. And get this, she stepped up for daddy before she did for mom…twice! hehehe She probably knew it would be daddy who needed a bit more convincing and just suckered him right in. I tell ya, this girl is SMART! And I didn’t get territorial or aggressive. Granted I still acted like a mama’s boy, but that’s just because I know I’m her numero uno. (grin) So, mom is waiting for final approval from the rescue. And, mom also told the lady from the rescue she’d give her a final decision by Tuesday if we’re going to make her part of the flock. Mama says to always “sleep” on big decisions just to make sure they’re right for you. So, what kind of bird do you think she is? I’m gonna ask that question to everybirdy here and see if anyone can guess. (and the two or three of you who know, don’t spoil the fun!) There are actually a few clues in my blog if you read carefully, but here’s another hint: her name is Blanche, and we assume she was given the name because her and this famous Golden Girl share the same trait. hehehe Oh this game is gonna be fun! Leaving a hug and vote for ya…squawk to you soon! Your pal, Caymus.

My mom can't wait to get her hands on the new CD...she might even come visit you early next month. I can't come this time though. I get pretty grumpy when it's nite-nite time and I'm not put to bed and left alone.

Anywho, so mama has officially filled out an application with Florida Parrot Rescue to adopt a bird. Now before you go thinking I’m getting a roommate, not so fast….this is just an application….so if a birdie should come along that mama thinks would fit well in our flock, we already have everything set. Next step I think is for someone to come and visit our house and check things out, you know…make sure we can provide a loving and stable home. Loving yes…stable, well that’s up for grabs! hehehe

Leaving you a big hug and vote!

  Sonny and flock...
...that was such a sweet tribute to Peachy. Thank you so much. No bird could be so lucky to have you all as friends. It was kind of a ho-hum weekend, but mom made sure to still act goofy with me and sing and dance and of course give me lots of extra cuddles. None of us should ever forget how truly precious life is and to make the most of it while we're here. Sending some love your way from Caymus and his mom!

I come with the saddest of news that we lost Peachy late this afternoon. Momma is in tears of course, but is glad that she is in no more pain. We wanted to write you a quick note as we feel closest to you and will update our other friends tomorrow when things have settled a bit. Thank you for always being there for us as your friendship means more than you can ever know. Love to you and your flock and beaky kisses to your mom.

  Hi Sonny...
Thanks you for stopping by to wish me well. It truly means a lot, especially to mom, to have everyone pulling for me to get better. I am still hanging in there. Took some sips of water last night and this morning...even a bit of seed. Mama sat by my cage to try and feed me a grape but I just wanted to sleep. But it still felt good to hear her voice. Even Caymus came to visit for a moment. Mom rolled my cage into the bathroom and turned on the hot shower so I could feel the mist. I will dream of you and my friends here as I drift off for another nap. (((little canary hugs)))

  Dearest Sonny and flock
It is with a heavy heart that I come to tell you about my fister, Peachy, who we fear is so sick she will not last in our world much longer. Last December running through early January/February, she became I'll. After taking her to the vet she was put on antibiotics for a respiratory infection, which unfortunately, Canaries are susceptible to.

With some quiet time, heating pad, antibiotics, and mama's lovin' she gradually improved to where she was eating great, singing, hopping around, flying in her cage...all the things a happy Canary should do. The infection left her with a few "coordination challenges" but other than that, when she moved into our room in March, she was a very happy camper. Last week we were so thrilled to come back onto the BC and tell you all about how well Peachy is, when all the while, she was getting sick all over again. The infection is back full-swing and Miss Peach-Peach was quickly moved into mom and dad's room, put back on antibiotics, given a heating pad...but this time she sleeps all day and unlike last time, her appetite is diminishing.

Mom feels awful. She feeds us a balanced diet of pellets, seeds, veggies, fruit, grains. She cleans or cages. Vacuums our mess. Never uses bad chemicals or sprays or uses Teflon or burns candles. We have a sunshine lamp, a HEPA filer, various toys, treats and perches of various materials and diameters. We go to the doc regularly. She has stacks of magazines and books about taking care of anything with wings. She talks to us, plays with us and loves us to tears. And yet she cannot see why, when she has worked so hard to keep us happy and healthy, how our little singer can be ready to die so young. Yet there are birds out there who live years and years in conditions no living thing should endure and ignored by mean people who get bored of their "pets." How can they live so long through that kind of suffering, yet mom has lavished Peachy and I with only the best, and still she is being taken from our flock?

Yes, we still have faith in miracles. But we also love her so much that we only want her to be happy and suffer no more. Please say a little prayer for her that if and when she leaves us, Peachy-Peach soars over that Rainbow Bridge and sings the loudest, happiest Canary song that even Mommy can hear. We will let you know any news and thank you for keeping us in your thoughts. We luv ya!

How the heck are ya? I know…shocking to see me here, huh? Well, mom and I have dedicated more time to each other, the rest of the flock, household chores, relaxing…you know…life. Which is why we haven’t been on BC for a long time. But that doesn’t mean I don’t miss you or think of you often, because I do! And even if this is a cut/paste message, rest assured that when I came to your page, I remember something special about you that made me smile.

What have I been up to? Well, I have my own room now! Mom and dad call it “the bird cellar” (see pics below) because MOST of the room belongs to Peachy and I, but daddy was allowed to use our closet to store some of his wine. The best part is that when my parrots are home but can’t have their eye on me, I’m in my room but not my cage. It’s awesome! Mom hung a big tree branch above my cage with some toys, and I’m next to the window so I can see out, but also hide if I see something scary. Got my radio, own TV. And mom made me little “birdie furniture” she painted all pretty to store my treats and toys.

Peachy is doing well. She still stumbles around her cage a bit, but other than that, she is a-ok. She's even singing and tweeting again!

We are also considering a new flock-mate. Daddy has given the green light. (“But just ONE…unless we win the lotto and move to a plantation!” he says) Since mom has kind of sound-proofed the bird cellar (the key word here is kind-of), she broke dad down and he agreed she could bring home another flock member. But she isn’t 100% ready. I think she’s worried how I’ll react since sometimes I occasionally, rarely, every-now-and-then, kind-of, sort-of act like a spoiled brat. (A-hem!) Anywho, on one wing, I’m a fly-by-the-seat-of-my-feathers kind of bird. Hardly anything bothers me. If something new is brought into the house, as long as I can inspect it, we’re good. No freaking out…no birdie tantrums. I’m like as easy going as they come. Especially for a Conure! But mommy…well I am her BABY. And I aint sure I want to SHARE her with anybirdie else. I have allowed another bird to perch on mom’s shoulder, but that was at my Aunt Cathy’s house. And I did let mom hold our friend Knuckles…but she was visiting, not staying. Big diff. So if you have any advice on going from a 1-parrot house to a multi-parrot house, PLEASE SHARE.

Well I don’t want to squawk your ear off all in one sitting but please please please drop me a line and let me know what’s new, how you’re doing, and any and all gossip about BC news. Oh, have to leave you with this: Question: What kind of bird sticks to sweaters?? Answer: A vel-CROW! hehehehe

Love and hugs always, even when I disappear. Cuz you’re my buddy and I hope you know, in my heart you’re always near.

  Mr. Sonny vdBeek
Peace be with you...

Who am I kidding? It's spring and we're all nuts! Well, I am anyway. While you find your dad to be your source of energy and excitement, I've decided that my mom will do just fine as my substitute girlfriend. At least her hands, anyway. Oh! They're lovely things to rub against. Why she says she feels like she's been violated after I've been peeeeeeled off of her is beyond me. I thought she LIKED it when I wanted to be CLOSE. Okay, maybe not THAT close.
Truth be told, I've also learned that I believe in the lyrical line about 'love the one you're with' 'cause the other day, the middle son offered to let me park on his hand and I found it to be just as satisfactorily a GF substitute as mom's. Hey, beggars can't be choosers. And I'm beggin' here!

Kisses to your mom. I'll bet she'd fill the bill for me too. JENSEN {'>

  HI Sonny!
Okay everybirdie! Our dear friend Sugar has nominated my frother Zebers for BOTD tomorrow! He is such a great frother and helped me out so much when I was campaigning for BOTM and I was in the hospital. He blogged every day for me! So if you have a free minute to stop by and let him know how much we all love him that would be fantastic!! He usually just kinda hides in the background, helping out without being seen. He's pretty shy and kind of humble like that, so it'd be really exciting to put him in the spotlight for a day! Thanks so much!! Love ya! ~Huey

  My Brother in Conureradery!
What's happenin' in the FL Everglades? You don't know either? Well, okay. How 'bout the in the Largo area? Things good? All's basically grand here except the mom's been away now for, what, like FOREVER. Okay, only since Thursday, but in my humble opinion, that's a long time ago. I'm under the care of the Queen Mother, I mean, the Grama. She hopped a train and came back from CO just to take care of us feather and fur kids. That was the only way the whole family could go on this adventure to NC. T'think, they were that much closer to you guys. It's a wonder she didn't program the GPS thingy to just take the car on down your direction. Don't suppose the Marine that was waiting at the admissions gate would've understood that detour though. Then again, everybody here knows how nuts mom and her fids are about our BC friends.

Speaking of mom, I'm told she's on her way back home at this very moment. Well, YaHoo, Mountain Dew. Or somethin' like that. Hope you're one happy conure yourself. Chow. JENSEN {'>
