Hi from Fuzzy's Mom I enjoy visiting all your budgies so it was Christopher's turn for a vote and a look see. ") I thought long and hard about you last comments. I truly admire the care and attention you give to your budgies. I hand feed and tame all mine too. You'd think more breeders would since budgies and cockatiels are the nation's most popular birds. We differ on a few things but over all Denny's Aquascapes and Aviary follows the guidelines set forth in the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council. I achieved my Certified Avian Specialist status this year and so am fresh and fervent. Our Aviary is working on its MAP certification so the Vet comes here. We only purchase from aviaries that are MAP certified or are PERSONALLY inspected by me. Those with references and histories of no illnesses. All birds are quarantined. We've never had disease of any kind. The One major difference is time out of the cage. And this may be an issue for you. We do have many birds and each species gets its own time out. Believe it or not we are on a schedule. It takes diligence, training and patience but it can be done. Being partially disabled, has the advantage that I'm home most of the time. But it prevents me from working closely with the larger Parrot species. In all honesty, I used to let my budgies be free flight and out as they either chose my company or the company of the one cage of rescues that don't want to come out. However, my beloved Fuzzy had a hormonal fit one day and squeezed out of the tiny little crack between the air conditioner and the window. I could not get to him fast enough and he was gone. Fortunately, the neighbors are wonderful and he was recovered as he happily munched on a spring dandylion. Never again. I'm very cautious now and everyone is clipped. Better to be restricted than to be eaten by the local Hawk.(Which sits on the telephone pole watching my windows) As far as horses, we had 6 Arabians of our own and boarded another 6. I learned to whistle because my Dad had them all trained to come running like a wild herd across the pasture, down the hill and across the creek up to the fence where we dropped the bars and they all rushed into their respective stalls to get their grain, hay and treats. It was a glorious sight to see all the different colors glistening in the sunlight and see the sun dance off the splashes of churning water as they crossed the creek. I've never been able to reproduce it. The government took our farm to put in a flood control damn project. I've never gotten over it. So...now I raise my own little rainbows and glistening jewels by raising the birds. Names Have they hatched yet, or are you still waiting? I love thinking up names, in fact Yo-yo's name comes partially from the fact that the cage he came in was made like a pagoda. Ava is named after Ava Gardner, my grandfather's favorite actor. I thought Ava was so gorgeous, I needed a gorgeous name for her. I hope you come up with some really good names! Chrissy and Arwen are going to have little chickies soon. I can't wait to see what they will look like... not to mention if any of them are as tiny as Chrissy. Merlin has been going after Whinny, and Chrissy is very intent on beating him up. He body-slams Merlin, and just kind of bounces off. It hasn't worked yet, but he keeps trying.
