Kiddo flew into Dad's warehouse, but the owner of the company said he had to go OR ELSE! Finally after a week they managed to lure Kiddo down using a baloney sandwich as bait. After trying unsuccessfully to find his owners, he tried living for a few weeks with Dad's co-worker and her African Grey. That didn't work out (the grey was jealous and so was Kiddo), so he came to live with us. He was supposed to be Dad's bird, but he bonded with Mom from day one, and now we are best friends. I love him dearly. Although I had never thought of having a bird as a companion, now I can't imagine life without him. The first thing I do each day is join him for breakfast and beaky kisses. We share our lives and love. What joy he has brought to my life.

Senegal Parrot

Raw cashews and almonds. Sweet potatoes, grapes and bananas. Dried papayas are definitely parrot candy.

The heating grate over the door (when the heater isn't on). My playstands. Mom's kneecap and shoulder.

Dad: I am very jealous of the time Mom spends with him. She should be with me 24 hours a day.

Mom loves to cuddle me when it is time to go to sleep at night. I love to snuggle up under her chin and coo at her. We have a great time together.

Doing the "Godzilla stomp" when Dad sticks his head in to say hello. I am a very tough hombre. I know I could take him out any time I want. I am just biding my time.....Of course, I do dance with him, too. I am the best dancer in the house!.

  Hello Mr Kiddo
Hello everybirdie, Mikey D here to introduce myself to you and our upcoming BOTM campaign. Most of our BC family will remember my beautiful wife-bird Chuey and her BOTM Cattle Drive. After giving my campaign greyt thought I have decided to step back into the history of the United States. It was made easier for me when I recently received a message that the Beakerton Security Company asking for help with a special, secret mission.
It appears that that rascal Black Bart has popped his head back up this time robbing stagecoaches and wagon trains owned by the Beakerton Security Company. Our mission is to take a special load of Parrot Treats from Texas to the sunny state of California by Mule Train. The convoy of wagons will leave Texas and travel through some mighty dangerous, formidable territory. That is where you come in. i need your help in driving these ornery sometimes stubborn long-eared mules, in driving our herd of cattle and replacement horses and mules, and most of all guarding our precious cargo of Nutri-berries and other treats safely to those hungry beaks in California.
Most of you have your saddle horse already, so you'll "ole need be catchin' it up, and pack your saddle bags fer our "Wild West Adventure." Might I add you'd best be polishin' yer guns too, with Black Bart and his band of dirty low-down scoundrels on the lamb you just might be needing it pretty soon.
Now for a wee bit of history on the Wagon Trains of the USA.
By 1836 when Texas gained its independence San Antonio's population had fallen from a peak of around six thousand in 1800 to under one thousand. When Texas became a state in 1845, two very important factors revitalized the city and the surrounding area. The US Army arrived and soon established a series of ten forts to the west of the city, and the second influence was the US Postal Service who began the slow process of building roads across the state into adjoining states.
Mules had advantages over both oxen and horses. Bred from a female horse and a male donkey, the animals were about half way in size between the two. They were strong and sure footed. They lacked the free spirited nature of horses and were, indeed, creatures of habit. A good CAPORAL, the name given to the person in any wagon train in charge of the animals, had only to crack his whip in the morning for the mules to line up not only in front of its assigned wagon but even its assigned place within the team, which could consist of between six and eight animals. Unlike oxen, they did not rely entirely on foraging for the food but had to be fed from foldaway troughs at regular intervals. Their skin could withstand a lot of chafing from pulling heavy loads but was not water proof. They did have one huge disadvantage over oxen. The Oxen interested thieves not at all while mules were highly prized plunder.
See ya tomorrow

  Hi, Kiddo
Thanks for the congrats. Always fun to be royalty for a day, eggspecially on the last day of the month and can see the old BOTM depart and welcome the new one in. Sugar made us a wonderful portrait too.

We are cooler here (low 70s yesterday) and windy. Nicely spring we think but still rather have the rain.

Well, just 'cause Becky don't like pink doesn't mean others can't wear it, right? Not that I think we'd wear it either but our mom likes it too.

Our mom says if something is always sold out then it must be popular. In which case more needs to be sent to the store.

Have a great day, wing hugs and a vote, Pearl and Silver.

Come visit me, Pearl & Silver.

Thanks for the hatchday wishes & half bag of almonds... Rudy doesn't see a hole in the sack and snickers at Kiddo. Here my man have some CAKE lol. I had a good day but mom says we will celebrate this weekend when she isn't so busy!

Wow did it ever pour down rain and hail last night. Some roads are closed because of flooding and moms trip out to the car this morning was very squishy. We need the rain but it could have come a little slower lol. Have a great day. V4U. Hugs.

  Happy Humpday Kiddo !
a poem by Dorothy D. Warner :

I saw a cowslip through the fence
A horsefly in the store,
I saw a boardwalk up the street
A stone step by the door
I saw a mill race up the road
A daybreak through the gloom
I saw a nightfall on my lawn
A clock run in the room
I saw a peanut stand up high
A sardine box in town
A bedspring at the garden gate
An inkstand on the ground
You don't believe all this, do you ?
For not a single thing is true
It's just a silly way to say
"Happy April Fool's Day !"

It seems that you can have a sunbath almost all year around. It that true? if so, you are a lucky bird!
That is too funny ... your mom is a pink lady on Tuesdays! What did the trainer say????
Looks like we might get high 40's with some sun tomorrow ... YAY! I hope it melts some snow. I was looking at the snow today, I told it to go away!!!

KIDDO, I TOO WILL GET BORED WITH SOMETHING SO MOM KIND OF SPACES OUT THE TIME ON WHEN I GET A SHOE TO CHEW ON. MOM SAVED ONE OF HER OLD GYM SHOES AND G-PA SAVED ON OF HIS SO WHEN I AM IN THE MOOD FOR A BIG SHOE CHEWING THEY HAVE IT. FO NOW I AM GOING AFTER THE SMALLER SHOE MOM GOT ME. PLUS SHE HAS THE MATE TO IT STORED FOR LATER ON. SHE SAYS I GO THRU THOSE BIRDIE TENNIS SHOES WAY TOO FAST. KACEY LOVES TO CHEW ON THEM TOO BUT SHE TAKES A LONGER TIME AT IT.

MOM ISN'T CRAZY ABOUT PINK REALLY BUT SHE DOES HAVE A COUPLE PINK BIRDIE SHIRTS THAT ARE VERY PRETTY AND 2 OF HER BIRDIE FLEECE BLANKETS ARE PINK. SOMETIMES PINK IS DOABLE.

MOM WENT TO THE GYM TODAY AND FOCUSED ON THE MACHINES AND DOING HER SITUPS AND PUSHUPS. SHE KIND OF OVERDID IT ON THE TREADMILL YESTERDAY SO SHE STAYED OFF OF IT TODAY. MOM IS UP TO DOING 2 SETS OF 70 AND 2 SETS OF 80 MODIFIED SITUPS ON THE RUBBER BALLS. THEN SHE DOES 45 PUSHUPS USING THE CAGE, SHE STANDS UP TO DO THEM AND NOT ON THE FLOOR. THE CAGE IS LIKE A BATTERS BOX, YOU CAN DO ALL KINDS OF STRETCHES USING THE CAGE. MOST PHYSICAL THERAPY PLACES HAVE ONE.

OH THAT RAVIOLI SOUNDS YUMMY. WE HAD THE LEFTOVER SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN OVER RICE TONIGHT. G-MA HATES LEFTOVERS SO SHE ATE A PEANUTBUTTER AND JELLY SANDWICH. NOT SURE WHAT MOM IS MAKING FOR TOMORROW. WE DO HAVE CHICKEN POT PIES WE CAN COOK BEFORE IT GETS TOO HOT.

WE HAD A LOVELY SPRING DAY HERE TODAY. THE SUN WAS OUT BUT SOMETIMES GOT COVERED BY THE CLOUDS. TEMP WAS UPPER 50'S AND A SLIGHT BREEZE. STILL NEEDED A LIGHT JACKET WHEN OUTSIDE. TOMORROW IS SUPPOSED TO BE 60 - 65 DEGREES.

Oh that is so funny you have the 99 cent stores there,Mom remembers watching Jay Leno and he would bring some things he found that were interesting from the 99 cent store there!Mom has bought some socks from the Dollar store here and your sweet Momma is so right the kids socks fit her really good!Mom has some with Easter eggs on them and her Irish socks and even Valentine ones too!
This morning was a bright sunny morning and the highs for the day would be 50 and the lows will be 32.Right now its 41.Skin bro came for Mom around 7:30 this morning and she woke us up and cleaned our cages and quickly swept our room and fed us our warm bean mix and then packed me,( Dixie) up and they took off to Nana's house. When they got there she put me,(Dixie)into the cage he has there and then Nana got some waffles and an orange for breakfast for the four of them as skin sis met us there, and they had some tea. Then Mom and Nana began to make the Easter bread for Sunday and after they got the dough mixed up,Nana had skin sis put it out in her solar room as it was very warm out there for the dough to rise. Then Mom,skin sis, skin bro all took off to do some shopping for Nana at Market Basket.Nana was waiting for her PT VNA to come.Market Basket was crowded as usual when they got there but they quickly got most of all the items that Nana had wanted and Mom even picked up a rum cake for Easter dessert.Mom picked up ten boxes of margarine for baking which were on sale for 0.88 cents,a nice large garden tomato, gatorade for dad for the summer for 0.25 cents among some other items which were on sale. Then they went back to Nana's and the dough had risen really well and Nana had shaped the Easter Bread into braids and Mom put it in the oven for her. Then they had lunch of salad with the fresh tomato that Mom bought, salsa and some chips and were getting ready to sit down to eat when another OT came in.She did her thing with Nana making sure that Nana didn't need her for a longer period of time. She will come into next week sometime but after that she finds no reason to be coming as Nana is really doing well. By the time they got done with lunch it was close to 4:00pm and they planned on making the ravioli's on Friday.Mom then got the vacuum after cleaning up the kitchen and then vacuumed the whole downstairs for Nana. Our cousin Bella hated that vacuum and growled and screamed the whole time Mom was in the Bird Room.By the time Mom was done vacuuming it was five and time to go home to make dinner for my dad and to get us all cleaned and fed for the night.Skin bro took Mom home and skin sis left to go to her place.Mom made dinner for my dad, cleaned our cages and fed us a small dinner(Dad had given us our snacks) and now Mom is done doing the dishes and we are having our turn to visit all our friends!
Oh how funny your sweet Mom is trying to get Becky mad showing her her pink shirt and socks!Mom is going to have to try and make some butternut squash ravioli some day!She is help

  Heya, Kiddo!
I think your Mom likes to tease her trainer! And how could she not like pink?! It is a great color! Mom used to be the same way but then she put on a pink sweater and she realized how good she looked in the color. Maybe it is for older women? Mom never did purple either but now it is one of her favorite colors.

Sounds like you have been so good--and am so proud of you! And enjoy that sunshine, and warm temps! We should get there by June if we are lucky.

Sunny day, around 50 today. Mom says it was great to walk outside, and to the park overlooking the lake front. Water was super blue, too! I hope she takes me down there one day when it gets warm out so I can see the water. She says she wants to do that. And you know I will love going anyplace with her.

Not much else going on here. So...Happy Toosday!

Great you got out for the sunbath again today. Its still cold here for me doing any of that yet.
Dad went out for the paper this morning and to mail some things in the mailbox. He saw a bunny had gotten hit on the road a little down from our drive way. He scooped it off the road with a shovel and then buried it. For two years there has been this one here along with two others about a year now for them. Mom and dad think this is the one that was here the longest and stayed under our shed and dad always feeds them. Mom and dad both felt bad . “No matter what the weather may be, I can always count on chatting with my friends on BC” Leaving a vote for you my friend~~Hugs, Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Hi Kiddo
Birds can be helpful to each other in many ways. The most familiar form of cooperation is when an owl or hawk appears in the neighborhood, causing every songbird within a quarter of a mile to sound alarm calls and even dive at the predator. Perhaps the most interesting form of help is when young birds of the first brood of the year help their parents raise the second brood of the year. There have been many reports of juvenile eastern bluebirds carrying food to the nesting houses containing their parents’ second brood.American crows and Florida scrub-jays demonstrate some of the same cooperative behavior, when sexually immature one-year-olds help their parents gather nesting material, protect the territory, and carry food for the next generation.Cooperation occurs among acorn woodpeckers of the Far West, when groups of up to 10 birds live together, year-round, jointly defending the communal territory, gathering food, and together incubating eggs and feeding the nestlings of each pair in the group.

Sometimes birds of different species lay eggs in the same nest. This has happened among American robins and northern cardinals. The two species take turns incubating eggs, sometimes sitting side-by-side, and jointly feed the young when they hatch. There are also adoptions. For example, a male Carolina wren started feeding an incubating female house wren. When the eggs hatched, the male Carolina continued by feeding the babies, causing both of the true parents to desert, leaving the rearing of their young to the foster father.

This is my last day of my campaign and I want to thank all of you for your help in making my campaign a success. it has been so much fun visiting with each of you every day. i apologize for not being able to answer all your comments individually but i did read every one and enjoyed them very much. i love you all so much.

Merlin is locked up in the bedroom but since he sleeps this time of the day I don't feel bad about him being locked up.
Mom asked dad if he could stay for one more day since she is off for the next 2 nights! He worked it out with his company so we are having Easter dinner tonight! YAY! Corn bread!! Mom and Ian are both working on Easter but not today so this will be the perfect day to have the dinner. Jennifer will be off by 6pm so the whole family can have dinner together! This doesn't happen much around here! It's going to be so much fun!

It's Popeye.
Yesterday was "work in the yard day" for dad. He edged the front lawns to get them ready for mowing and then he cleaned up the south side of the house Guess he wasn't sore enough so he cleaned up the flower bed along the back fence and then mowed the weeds in the backyard. Now he's real sore. Then he took a shower and grilled steaks for dinner. This morning we can hear him creaking and moaning and groaning. "Hey dad! Look at the date on your driver's license. You're not as young as you used to be. Lighten up!"
today will be partly cloudy with a high of 79 and a low of 55.
Hope your day is fun.

  Hi Kiddo
Mom always says that people who don't vote don't have a right to complain. She votes in every election, too.
Just a brief mention of the cart contents: the animal pelts that mom displayed were hunted probably 100 years ago, when guys went and trophy hunted. A lot of the collection is from a guy named Childs Frick, a friend of Carnegie's and son of Henry Frick, whom you might remember from Peppino's blogs. If the pelts are newer, they were donated by the zoo after the animal passed away.
Mom added stuff to the squirrel mix she brought home yesterday, some kibble and more nuts, so she has a lot of food now for the released squirrels.
Today a guy is coming over to measure the cabinets and show mom what's available. She is anxious to see what he has to offer. Then later, she will go to PetSmart for a few doggie things, like new tie outs and maybe a new leash. She wants to look for a treat pouch that hooks onto her jeans if they have them, too.
After that, she's ours for the rest of the day. I hope you are having a great day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Falco

I like your Easter picture, its very festive. :)

Laka is the one who had the blood drawn.

I'm just gonna see Dr. Byrd this Saturday in the hopes that this collar can come off. :)

It was Laka with the blood test. It's to rule out her kidneys, liver and to check for diabetes too.

Cause my mom gives her water when she comes home and she's worried cause She used to drink a couple of sips and now the most she drank was 15 sips as mom has been counting. :(

Moms hoping that its something simple and cureable.

She should get her test results on Wednesday, I'll let you know what the vet says.

This morning was another dark dismal day with our temperatures highs being 42 and the lows being 33.Right now its 37 and fairly cold.Skin bro came and picked Mom up at around 8:00am this morning. So Mom really had no time to do much of anything except to clean all our cages quickly and feed us all. Then she collected the trash and recyclables and skin bro loaded them in his car while she got Dixie in his carrier and wrapped him with a blanket. When they got to Nana's Mom got Dixie settled in his cage there and set his food bowl down for him and he immediately started eating then skin bro and Mom collected Nana's trash and recyclables and they loaded them in Nana's car and they went to the dump, when they came back the VNA came to work out with Nana. The VNA had Nana walking over and over around her house with a cane. They are trying to get her out of the walker. But she is not to use the cane when the VNA is not there and she is not to go outside yet as the ground is too uneven and Nana promises she isn't going to try as she doesn't want land back in the hospital or rehab again!Mom and Nana were supposed to try and make at least one loaf of Easter Bread for Easter but that never happened so if Mom makes it over to Nana's earlier tomorrow they can start it then,Nana will mix all the ingredients and Mom will do the kneading. Then skin bro is going to take Mom grocery shopping at Market Basket to pick up some things for Easter dinner. They both have no idea what they will have for Easter dinner this year as Nana isn't feeling well with her broken hip,Nana doesn't know if they can make ravioli's.Mom said she wouldn't mind trying to make them as she's been helping make them for a while now. After they left Nana's skin bro drove Mom into Falmouth and he bought Mom and himself a medium blizzard at DQ and then he took Mom to the Dollar Tree to get our dad some funnels that he needed. Then he took Mom home and it started to rain again and got dark as night. When Mom got home she made dinner for my dad, cleaned all our cages and dad had already given us our snack and put our light on for us and filled our humidifier.
Please pardon my short note today but its really late and my Mom has been gone since 8am this morning and she has to be out and gone early again tomorrow to help Nana make some Easter bread and ravioli's for our Easter dinner on Sunday.then she's gotta go shopping for Nana and run some errands.
We so loved the Memorial for Mario and it was way beyond what we ever expected, and it really made my Mom and skin sis have a reason to smile just knowing how much our BC family really cares and is always there for us no matter what!We all want to thank everyone involved for such a wonderful and thoughtful outpouring of love for Mario and all of us!We love you all so much more than words can express!
Wishing you a greyt day and I'm sending you all my love along with warm birdie hugs,Loving you always and forever,Dixie

Come visit me, Gabbie, Kallie, Peepers & Dixie.

  Heya, Kiddo!
Great picture!!!

Well, gotta say it was a sort of nice day today. Rain came this afternoon. Great day to nap, only Mom was at work. So I had to nap in my house. Perfectly okay though. Mom says she would have loved to be able to take a nap--with work winding down, there is not a lot for her to do, and she is bored. Guess it could be worse, huh? Getting paid for being bored!? Ha.

Glad you got out for your sunbath. And that you resisted nibbling on the Kindle. Always a good idea to avoid eating those electronic things.

Have a great rest of the day, and will cya tomorrow!

Your buddy,
Kaji

  Hi Kiddo
That is good you got outside for your sunbath and wasnt bothered with the garbage trucks too.
Today mom was washing clothes and scrubbing the floors. She was in the kitchen and I let out a little noise and went flying to her. Along the way my walnut fell to the floor but I never fly with them so mom thinks I had my beak in the crack and it stuck but when I flew it fell off. Mom hugged me and made a big fuss over it all and I was ok but you know after all that she could of at least opened it for me!! “No matter what the weather may be, I can always count on chatting with my friends on BC” Leaving a vote for you my friend~~Hugs, Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Hello Kiddo~
I hope you are having a wonderful day! It's been too long since I got blogs out to every bird and I wish I had something exciting to share but it's been rather dull around here.
Dad is home for the day since he had to go to his doctor. Just the usual 6 month check up because of the cholesterol medicine he takes. You would think the cat would be all over him since he doesn't see him much but Merlin is still following mom everywhere. She is the one who feeds us so I can't blame him for sticking close by! You wouldn't want to miss a snack!
I will be having "turtle tank" cleaning duties once mom gets back from dropping Ian off at work. He wasn't suppose to work today but someone called out again! Ian picks up most of his hours that way!
I have the very important job of watching George and Gracie while mom washes the tank. They go into a little box which mom calls there summer home! I watch to make sure they don't escape! Gracie is always wanting to get out although I have no idea where she thinks she is going to go. It's a turtle thing I guess!
I hope your day is just wonderful! Leaving a vote and a big hug!
love you ~ Sugar ♥

  Hi Kiddo
this is a continuation of birds intelligence from blog on 3-27. we messed up on the order.
Examples of bird intelligence include…
Carrion crows in Japan that deliberately place nuts in roadways, wait for cars to crush the nuts then retrieve the nut meats, all while coordinating around traffic lights to keep safe.
Woodpecker finches in the Galapagos Islands that trim sticks to the proper length for use as tools to forage for insects.
Green herons and other heron species that use bread fed to ducks or picnic leftovers as bait to attract fish for their hunting.
Blue tits in the 1920s that learned which color of milk caps on delivered milk had the most cream (whole milk) and pierced those caps to drink the cream.
Western scrub-jays that hold funerals for dead birds by making loud noises and avoiding the corpse, behavior that may be warning other birds of fatal threats.
Northern mockingbirds that recognize individuals who may be a threat to their nests and will attack only those individuals rather than attacking all passersby indiscriminately.
Aplomado falcons that hunt cooperatively in pairs and thereby increase their hunting success by a large margin through this teamwork.
Jays that cache hundreds of seeds and nuts in fall and manage to retrieve the majority of them over the course of the winter, exhibiting great recall for their hiding places.
Other well known examples of bird intelligence that could be attributed to instinct but still show at least some higher mental capability include:
Amazing nest architecture with intricate construction
Returning to the same ranges, even the same nests, for many years
Ability to navigate migration safely despite changing landmarks
Play behaviors, including taunting cats or playing with objects for entertainment
Recognizing who refills feeders and interacting with that person
Curiosity when responding to pishing or investigating new stimuli
Showing emotions through courtship, caring for nestlings, etc.
Some Are Smart, Some Are Stupid
Like any animal, not all birds are equally intelligent. Ornithologists generally agree that corvids (jays, ravens, crows, rooks, jackdaws, etc.) and parrots are among the smartest bird species and that social, gregarious birds often exhibit more intelligent behavior than solitary species. Still, every backyard birder has seen that one "stupid" bird at their feeders who just can't figure anything out, while another bird of the same species seems to be an Einstein in comparison. Watching birds and witnessing their intelligent behavior can be a joy for backyard birders, and learning more about bird intelligence in quantifiable ways is sure to keep ornithologists busy for decades to come.
THANKYOU FOR YOUR VOTE

  Hi Kiddo
It's so nice to see everyone's Easter pics up. Makes us think spring will actually get here one day.
That was a beautiful service for Angel Mario yesterday. What a great way to celebrate his life. We were there, but silent, as mom was working. On Willie's page are 2 pics of what she was doing yesterday. One of them shows where she was set up, right by the camel driver and lions, and the other shows what she had out on the cart: lion pelt, cheetah pelt, sable horn covering, giraffe ankle bone, an impala skull, a gorilla skull, and a warthog skull. The pelts were new, and got a lot of attention. It was a good afternoon for talking to folks.
Today at the center, mom did the RVS room again, and was supposed to feed the bats. When she got to the treatment room, Jess (staff) had already fed 4 of them, and cleaned their terrarium. She was feeding one of the baby squirrels, and invited mom to feed the other one. Mom gladly did that! She hasn't fed babies for nearly a year, so it was a nice change.
Speaking of squirrels, when mom walked the dogs this morning, there was a squirrel near the bird feeders in front of the house. It ran when it saw mom and the girls, and it ran right into the hide box that mom brought home and got nailed up last week, so it was one of the new kids! Mom was happy to see that. She got more squirrel mix while she was at the center, as things aren't really growing outside yet. So they will have food for at least another week.
I hope you are having a good day and getting lots of cuddles and scritches. Hugs, Falco

Come visit me, Gizmo, I miss you, sweet boy, Willie, Peppino, Divo & Falco.

  Hi Kiddo
It's Popeye.
Mom needed things at Costco so she sent dad over to Costco right when the opened yesterday. She said that it would not be crowded at that time. WRONG! It was packed. Dad managed to make his way through the store and even made his way to the "grazing stations". All in all, it worked out ok.
When dad got home and put stuff away it was time to pay the month's bills. We know that dad loves doing this because of all the neat sounds he makes. Does anybirdy know what a "&%$*@@" is? Anyway, that went on for the longest time.
Finaly, dad was finished and he and mom could relax. Yeah, we'll see about that! "Squawk squawk squawk! We want our snacks!" "Oh, so mom and dad get to eat that Margarita Pizza and we get apples? "NOT FAIR!!"
Today will be clear, with a high of 84 and a low of 54.
Hope your day is fun.
Hugs,
Popeye

  Hi Kiddo
We had to say goodbye to our 15 year old doggie, Ms Tiger, yesterday. Mom mad the decision that since she was in so much pain and not able to get around without help that is was time to let her go. She will be missed and mom is in a zombie state for awhile ... sigh. Have a great day and soak up that sun. V4U. Hugs.
Love Rudy
