We were looking for a bird and just decided to get a Blue-Crown. She was the only one there without a breeder band. She was a wonderful choice for a 1st bird (we now have 3... very addicting!) I would highly recommend a Blue-Crowned Conure, they are very intelligent, silly little birds. A whole lot of fun.. Awards

Tweety needs your votes for her poem. Her foot had to be amputated Feb. 26th due to the main blood supply being cut in her leg. We had to separate her from her cage mate. I wanted to get her a big cage to move (fly around) in and after paying 258.00 for her leg to become amputated we could not afford to buy her the cage of her dreams. We notice that she flies a little to get around her cage and can defiantly use a bigger one. Thank you; please visit her web site at

Come visit me, Tweety, Frosty and Ringo.

  Hi Roxie
It is so cool that you know what we are. There are not many of us kept as pets, but mom always said we are amazing, smart, inquisitive birdies. Our intelligence may even be greater than a grey, except Uzi, he is an old man, and he is very wise. Mom wishes to breed us, so Vasas can be more well known...then maybe something can be done about the deforestation in Madagascar. It is the only place in the world we can be found, as well as the Lemurs. I believe it is over 90% deforested now, which gives us very little habitat in the wild. And, as you probably know, we are not common companion pets, but we would be if more people knew what we were. Now we also have Eve, Spooky, and Gadget here, so maybe Vasas may get a category. ♥ Harold and Maude

Guthrie says thanks for the comment! (Actually, he's screaming into a dish of mashed hard boiled egg, but I'm sure he'd say thanks if he wasn't currently indisposed hahaha) As far as Cherry Heads, last they looked into it none were available. But I'd be more than happy to have them find out again!

Well, we just got back from the doctors office. Roxie has been sneezing a little bit the past couple of days so we thought we best get her checked out. She has a slight upper respiratory infection and the good doc gave her some antibiotics.....mmmmm good stuff. She was very well behaved, the doc was impressed. He said she had a really wonderful personality and very cooperative. We had to warn the doc that we would be bringing Marvin (the 8 month old Severe Macaw) in a couple of weeks and that Marvin was gonna be a handful. Keep ya posted.

Come visit me, Sully & Roxie.

Hi again. In response to your question I have several thoughts. Due to the nature and depth of neglect Sully has experienced, getting him socialized with you and your husband is a great feat in and of itself. Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Of all the Macaws I have known they have proven to me to be very precocious and do not seem to take so kindly to mingling with other birds (unless they were raised together or have a mate.) However, mine will tolerate the other birds and each bird has learned boundaries provided by each other and more importantly, myself. My feeling is that Roxie might be happier and much rewarded (for her efforts at companionship) if she had another conure to play with. I'm only sharing my personal experience strength and hope. I have a beautiful sun conure (Simone) and a couple years later rescued a gorgeous Nanday (Rizzo). These two are inseperable and have been sharing a cage almost from the time I brought Rizzo home. Again, I stress respect, acceptance, and tolerance in my flock . . . and the few birds I have had that could not or would not meld with my philosophy were quickly adopted out. They really seem to understand the dynamics of being part of a flock. Researching their behaviors and instincts in the wild has proven most beneficial for me to facilitate such a diverse grouping of birds! We just can't seem to learn enough! I'd love to hear how things progress and any decisions you and your husband make. Your birds are extrordinary and beautiful . . . and I commend your continuous efforts to provide the most nurturing home possible! Bird hugs to all! Liz

His wings don't twitch that much but it is like he does it when he is very excited, when we first get home, that kinda of thing. He is a goofy bird, lol. And his Daddy named him- after the poker player and the beer, lol- what a man!

Thank you for the informaiton about the blue crowned babies. I would certainly like to get the information from you about the babies in Virginia Beach. Please feel free to email me @ with the informaiton.
And you are absolutely correct about Tiki being a bit of a clown. She entertains me so much. Yesterday I was cooking and didn't want her on my shoulder because of the heat and treat of possible a burn if she got too close to the stove. So I left her in her cage with the play top open. She climbed on top and tried her hardest to try to figure a way to get to me. I stayed my distance so she couldn't fly (a little) to me. She will for about 2-4 feet. She likes to lift her wings about 1/4 the way and shake them when she wants me to pick her up. She did this all the time I cooked. She's on my shoulder this morning and content as can be.
Although, I think she's ready to try the key board.
Thanks again. Tell your babies hello from Tiki & her mom.

Come visit me, Tiki.

I am so glad you asked! Birds do not know how to fly instinctively . . . they must be taught. Either by their bird parents or by us. Birds hurt themselves "flying" into walls, windows, etc. because of the fight or flight phenomena. Get the right sized harness - I use the plain strappy ones not the flight suits. Introduce Roxie to it by handeling it a lot near her so she knows its "safe". Once she is comfortable touching it you can put it on her and attach your end to a small dog leash that is extendable/retractable. Begin by walking around areas of the house she is familiar with while on your shoulder or hand and progress to unknown areas of the house. You can stand a foot or two away from her cage and "toss" her into the air toward her cage to land on. With time, you can move further away from her cage/perches and eventually outside for longer distance flying. Another way to help birds get used to "flying" is to hang bongo/bungie ropes from the ceiling or perches, and colorful plastic chains. This gets them used to moving perches lest she gets out and onto a tree-branch. One reason why a loose bird won't come down from a tree is because they are terrified to let go. I have found such a freedom having my birds fully flighted and harnessed! We can go anywhere anytime! From my Macaws & Toos to my Parrotlette! You can also "house-train" your bird to go potty in designated areas. Believe me, I am well aquainted with the projectile feces!!! Thanks for visiting! Liz
