He was dropped off at our local pet store by his 2nd owner who could not handle his agressive behavior and his foul language (his mother was a trucker) he sat at the pet store for six months or better and every time me and my husband would go in to buy supplies for our other bird, we would stop and visit with him. There was just something very endearing about this little guy. We learned that he spent the first 5 years of his life in a cage small enough for a cockatiel. He was very cage aggressive and would attack the cage and scream if anyone got too close. After some time the pet store put him in the back of the store because of his language and bad bird attitude. After deciding to bring him home he allowed me and eventually my husband to get him out of the cage, something that was said to have been a small miracle by people who worked in the pet store. There was only one girl there willing to even try. He has been home with us since March 2006, and he is now a wonderful happy bird whose language is still colorful as ever but has also learned some new... more pleasant words. He comes out of his cage just fine now... he is actually quite demanding if we dont let him out fast enough. He tells us "out" while hes holding onto the door of his cage. We are still working on his "trust" issues, but things improve everyday. He is truly a joy... one of the best things I have ever done. He gives great kisses!. Awards

Hi! My name is Sully

I am a Yellow-Collared Macaw from Virginia Beach, VA.

Buddy, Sully Wully, Psycho Sully

16 years old   M

Yellow-Collared Macaw

Pine Nuts! Will climb down the door of his cage to fetch his own out of the bowl that sits on the table by his cage. He also likes grapes, cashews and pistacchios.

In my happy hut or on my big swing. Also I like to sit on the door of my cage and watch TV. I love the 70's Show. I laugh when the studio audience does... every time.

I can be cage agressive.
I dont like to be completely covered up at night time... I get mad when the blanket touches my tail feathers. I dont like the baby severe located in the cage next to mine. (Marvin the terrorist) I dont like fast hand movements... I will watch you very closely.

They respect me. They know when to leave me alone and when I want to be picked up. They talk nice to me and give me my favorite treats when I do something good. They dont push me too much because they know that my first owner probably wasnt so nice to me. (just by the things he says) But they are nice and patient. I am in my forever home, where I will continue to be a happy bird in my new big bird cage.

He has temper tantrums. He doesnt like it when our Blue-Crowned conure... Roxie laughs at him when hes talking. He picked up some real bad language from his first owner. Whats funny about the bad words... he knows how to use them very appropriately and in more than one sentence. If you dont believe me, go to and search "sullysrant" and see for yourself..

I can get my own nuts...
ma ma!

  Hi Sully
You are a handsome guy, and you landed in the right situation. Isn't it wonderful when you can find people who can respect the bird within.

  Hey again.
I'd love to try. We would have to somehow get in touch with each other so we can cross reference and stuff like that. Personally I don't really know how to start a website. But I'm sure it's easy to learn. I think a lot of these Yellow collars on the site are second or even third hand pets. That could be part of the reason they're afraid of hands. It's sad to think that people would harm something so cute and small. I don't have problems with Emmie because I am his first owner. And I intend to be his last owner too. I'm so happy you think this is a neat idea!

Come visit me, Coco, Emerald, Huey, Avi & Sunny.

  Hi Sully!
This is Emmie again. Wouldn't it be neat if we started a website for yellow collars?

  Hey there silly bird!
I am so happy to hear that you have a very good home now. I hate hearing these types of stories about bad owners. There is no reason why someone should mistreat their pet, may as well not even get a pet if your going to mistreat it. So I hope that you enjoy your new home and have the love that you really need. Take care. I am sending a vote your way.

Come visit me, Sunshine.

  Sup Sully!
I had a great V-Day, nothing special really, mom had to go watch another kid today, but when she got home, she cuddled with me and let me chew on her shirt. She also entered a poem in the new contest. Did you write one?

Come visit me, Coco, Emerald, Huey, Avi & Sunny.

WOW, I love your story too. Amazing people to do that for this bird. Poor little guy. YOU both are amazing . He looks so happy and my zazoo has that same big swing in his cage too :) And about foul language I WORKED real hard to make sure NO ONE has or will ever teach him that, and I explain why, not a good idea. I agree. Well you ARE both doing a great job with him :) And about Zazoo YES he was lucky to NOT have been among the other birds that were stolen etc. I couldn't beleive it when I went in the pet shop to get him more toys and saw the place had no birds! :( It was like a week after I got him. I still cannot get over it. So mean, all for the love of money. Like the shop owner had said they could of left them to anyone and he would of been ok with that. And about the hatch day, Yeah I still wish I knew. :)

  Hi Sully
t sounds like you found a wonderful forever home. We are happy for you, for sure. As for the potty mouth. Uzi is the King of Potty-mouths, but he learned it here. Mom had him before kids, so he was the big brother...and the boys and their frinds thought...hey, let's teach the bird to swear!!! He says F-you every day, we think that may be confused with thank you, lol. As for the Caiques...they are infectios, and even though We have Harley, there were three white belly's in the store, and if mom had the money, they would all be here right now!!! Voted for ya! ♥ Harley

Harley was glad to see that there are other yellow-collared macaws on here. We hardly ever see anything about them when we are looking for information. Knowing how lkoving he has become in just 7 months, it's hard to beleive that people abuse them and don't like them. Of my three birds (we have a pair of Sun Conures) he is definitely the most cuddly and fun. Thanks for visiting.

Sully is so fortunate to have you taking such great care of him. I loved reading about every detail of his personality, how you met, and his quirks as well. He is a really special guy and quite handsome. Not to mention he sounds like a smarty pants! We had to stop by and give your birdie a vote. The world needs more people like you who are so understanding of another creature in need.

Come visit me, Cherry, Parsley & Tiki.
