I heard about Bailey through a collegue of my husband. They had apparently bought a Grey and were tired of Bailey. We went to meet him and insisted on taking him home that day. He had become jeolous of the new bird and became vocal . . . angering the owners. His cage was too small, devoid of toys and perches, and kept in a dark coat closet "so he'd be quiet.". Awards

Hi! My name is Bailey

I am a Moluccan Cockatoo from Columbus, OH.

21 years old   M

Moluccan Cockatoo

I really enjoy raw celery, bananas, and snap peas. Everything else needs to be warmed up thankyouverymuc- h.

I like to fly over to Hannibal's cage and perch on the very top of it! From here I can see EVERYTHING!

The only thing that bothers me right now is the new bird Mommy brought home a couple of days ago. What the heck is a Goffin Cockatoo, anyway?!

I don't have any toes. I couldn't walk when Mommy got me, and apparently I had been physically abused because it took Mommy & Daddy 4 years to coax me out of my cage. They built me special ramps, perches, and my very own special shoes so I could walk around. Mommy taught me how to fly, and to trust people (again). Now I am just a love-monster!

I like filling my clean water bowl with as much Zupreem pellets as will fit in it. I like the texture. I really enjoy playing 'Fetch' with the 15-year-old girl who lives with us. She is my favorite person in the house!.

"I love you BIRD!".

  HI Bailey
You sure are a beautiful bird. Your story has such a happy ending. I know your mommy loves you very much. You Moluccans are so beautiful. Perhaps someday we will be lucky enough to have a beauty like you join our flock. We have The Healthy Bird Cookbook and make something for the boys from it at least once a week. I freeze alot because it seems like Simon and McCartney like different things. I made Yam Puffs and Simon just loves them, and McCartney just picks out the apples. Mc likes cheesy apple muffins and Simon doesnt. I made veggie pellet bread once and caught my daughter just as she was slicing herself a large hunk. I have another cookbook called Gourmet Bird Food Recipies by Holly A. Armstrong, Michelle D ..Bagnaieo and Shannon Carabjal Between both books, something good and healthy is always getting cooked around here. Everyone in your flock seems to be doing great. I will get more pics of my boys up soon. My computer skills havent improved much so I need help with pics. Talk to you soon. Ginny, McCartney &Simon

Come visit me, McCartney, Bonnie Molly, Zak, Gabby, SAMMY, Corona, Simon, Clyde Pan, ZaZu & Piper.

  A visit from Sapphire!
Well Bailey I must admit I like the cut of your jib! You get to that highest point in the house and look upon what should be your kingdom! But don't get used to it! In time all will be my kingdom but I like you so you can have a high ranking spot on my council! *grin* Oh and you must tell me more of this Zupreem. My Brent got me some at one point but I don't think I cared for it much. Might be worth giving another try though if you regard it so delicious!

Come visit me, Sapphire.

Bailey is so happy that the weather has finally warmed up here in Ohio. He is spending more and more time out of his cage and on the front porch while I garden. He continues to enjoy playing 'hide & seek' with me and my daughter, and 'toss the sock'. With a growing vocabulary he is impressing many a house-guest! Bird hugs to all . . . Liz

Come visit me, Crackers, Gretta, Fran, Bailey & Hannibal.

Don't you just hate it when people take a beautiful, loving bird like us and don't take care of it? It looks like you have all your feathers like me! No one can believe I have all my feathers coming from a bad home and only eating wild bird seed! I'm sorry about your toes. What kind of shoes do you have? ~Snuggles

  Left out
Poor Poor little Bailey;
Angel Face and I Sweety Pie know just how you felt. We were kicked out of our house and left on the door step in 109 degree weather with no water or food when our new mom rescued us. Our cage was infested with maggots ants flys and other scary crawling bugs. But now we are sooooo happy and we make alot of chirping and are even trying to talk. we are getting fat too. You are so pretty Bailey I would Love to see more pictures of you.

Come visit me, tourqua, loki, Aquaries, Peggy Sue & Sunshine.

Hi!! Thanks for the help networking!! I am 22 and will be graduating Oswego in another year and a half. I'd love to do re-habbing with raptors and any other type of bird. I took a re-habbing class but never took the actual exam. I am the person that is outside wih binoculars seeing how many birds I can see and blow my parents away with how I can identify them by flight (I had to learn it for ornothology lab!). My e-mail is I am so excited!!! I remember going into the Dr. for an infected finger because I was bit by a flamingo. When I told the Dr. what happened they didn't believe me! Even after my mom told them! So nice having someone understand my stories. Oh, and when I told my mom to cover up the birds head once to calm it down and said its like putting an owl in a coffee can. Sounds cruel but it works for the small owls. There is also when I explain I named Griffin after one of the birds Dr. Irene Pepperberg did her studies on and no one knows who she is. I met her at the Canadian Parrot Confrence last year and I died. She's my hero! My mother just sent me an e-mail about our Goffin too, Peanut. Apparently he took the breeder door off his cage. I tell you, cockatoos are the multi-purpose tool! No batteries needed. They can shred, break, screw, and unscrew anything! We can't use those locking crocs for food any more because he figured out how to twist it around and pop them out with his tongue. One of his favorite toys are those prescription-type medicine bottles. The bottles with the so-called "child proof caps". Obviously when they made those containers they didn't have too's in mind! He also likes the grated parmasan cheese tainers. I currently have my conure and quaker seperated because the Quakers eye thing got worse. The avian specialist suspects a reaction to one of the meds. I don't see the Quaker itching it but I keep catching Goose preening that area. You know birds- any imperfection shouldn't be there. It hurts me more then it hurts them. Goose doesn't like it but Sprout doesn't seem to care! Poor Sprout knows when I have the syringe she is going to get medicated. Its hard medicating her by myself. I have an easier time medicating Peanut by myself. He periodically picks and no one knows why. We even had the head od endoscopy from Guelph College in Canada (We actually heard him speak the year before at the Canadian Parrot Confrence we went to oddly enough)come down and scope him. He has the nutrition, lots of attention, large cage, toys, foraging toys, etc, but he still picks. It'd be nice if he was just a feather picker but he actually picks his flesh. Have you ever seen anything like that? Anyway, I should get crackin on studying. I have finals week. My first final is Invertebrate tomorrow. ick!

Come visit me, Griffy, Griffin, Jou (lutino) and Hawk (White-face), Sprout, Peanut, Lilly, Ozzie, Boo & Goose.

What a pretty bird! She looks very happy! I worked with a Moluccan that was a rescue at the zoo and was very attached but because I was only one of two people he liked they sent him to a breeding facility. Now he has a girldfriend and seems happy. Just recently we took on a 20+ yr. old moluccan tooah, Lilly. Total sweetheart. She used to live with a bare-eyed cockatoo that was also surrendered. We are guessing that she didn't like him too much because she blows her self up and charges after our Goffin cockatoo and our white dove. She could care less about the other birds. But those white birds, well, they aren't as cute as her! haha. She was also surrendered in a cage that was so filtyh our breeder tossed it. She had one perch (and foot issues) and the only toy she has was a signle solid block of wood. She is slowly figuring out she is a cockatoo and has progressed from cockatiel sized toys to larger toys and dads charge at point. Life is never dull with birds!

Come visit me, Griffy, Griffin, Jou (lutino) and Hawk (White-face), Sprout, Peanut, Lilly, Ozzie, Boo & Goose.
