 A few years back Mom worked in a pet shop, and there was this pied cockatiel named Opal. She loved that bird, enough to make any bird jealous. He talked and sung and was so cool but she couldn't convince her dad (grampa) to let her buy him. Finally, a few weeks before her birthday her Dad said she could get him. Excited she went to the pet store to tell her Boss the good news but when she got there she found out that Opal had been attacked by a ferret. His whole chest had been ripped apart. He lived for 3 days because the owner didn't want to spend the money to euthanize him (bad lady!!). Enraged she quit her job and started hanging out at the other pet store in town. A few days before her birthday, when she was doing volunteer work and helping to clean the parrots’ cages she saw me. I had just arrived at the store, in a new shipment of weaned baby cockatiels. While all the others were huddled together in the back, gazing around in fright, I walked right up to her, cocked my head and chirped telling her to get me out of here! She was sold by my good looks and took me home that very day. I have been one of the best things to ever happen to her, of course.. |

Hey George! It's Kisa...my 'Grandma' is at a party and she isn't home yet; it's 2:45am :P I haven't been able to get to sleep...and i tried to call you (bird calls; they're free) but your Mom wouldn't pick up, a little bird (actually, he was a really big, aging(JK!), manly bird, probably a falcon or something) told me she was babysitting, AGAIN :P JK it's all good-just call me back ok? :) Aniway this caged swallow's pretty bored... oh yah I'd never heard the Opal story!!! that's so mean! I can't believe someone would do that to a bird! I mean, allowing it to die a slow and painful death...:*( cruel ppl in this world! so yah a big hello to Molly and Devilbird and Lemon that other bird (gosh you have so many friends with you!) :P Lvs!K8T, The Woodlands, TX.

What a great story! We feel so bad for poor Opal, though. Mom says there should be laws against that sort of thing. Don't get her going! You sound like a combination of all of us with all your likes, peeves, and activities! You sound like a really fun guy! Welcome to the club, and hope you stop in to see us.
