Hi! My name is Woody

I am a Cockatiel from Charlotte, NC.

Only his cage - inside or on top

She gives me food.

Sits with his head in the bell on one of his toys. Puts his foot on his head and sticks both down in his snuggly. He also "sets his table to eat". He takes food from his cups and lines everything up on his concrete post and then eats one piece at a time..

  Stopping By to Admire You!
Hi, Woody,

It is good to see your pretty cockatiel face! We are at the lake. This summer we have been able to spend quite a lot of time here. The children next door rushed over to see Tookie. So sad, Bruce had to tell them that he had gone to birdie heaven. China, our Maine Coon, is fine. She absolutely hates travel, though. We didn't realize how much fun it was to have Tookie, who loved travel. China gets sick, not car sick, but sick from stress. She drools and has diarrhea. As a well-behaved 'tiel, you wouldn't understand that, but, it is BAD! On Thusday she saw the vet. She liked the lobby. They have a big cage with two gorgeous cockatiels. And, China was good with the vet. She had some booster shots and got a microchip. The vet gave her some special crunchy food for her teeth and some mild sedative pills for the 7 hr car trip to the lake. I gave her a half a one and she was much better, sleeping in the large carrier with her catbox, but not at all dopey from the pill. But, she will never enjoy trips like Tookie. Julie and Edina were here to visit twice this summer. A miracle happened then. China and Edina learned to be together. They don't really LIKE each other, but they can get along. They did some chipmunk watching together. We plan another big swing around the parks with our trailer this fall. Won't be the same without our cheerful cockatiel whistles. Poor China! She will be miserable. Later, after Christmas, when we go to Florida, China will visit Jule and Edina in New jersey, again. We tried and tried, but we were not able to find a place on Sanibel Island that would take cats and had a 5 week available time for us. I hope Alex and the other kitties are behaving themselves! Be brave, but not TOO brave. Sylvia (Tookie's Mom)

Hi, Woody, I like to visit you and remember old times. It was good that you got a healthy checkup from the vet. How does he know you are healthy? You are 15, maybe you don't like being touched as much because you are getting creaky (arthritic?). Too much sittin' on the perch! Maybe you could learn to type or play the piano to get those knarled feet in motion? Keep those rear feather spiffy clean so Alex doesn't have anything to sniff!! Or, maybe he could smell the vet? China is fine. She is still working very hard to learn to be the perfect family cat. She went down to the basement kitchen with me to help me water our 300 African violets. She found that a sunny wide window ledge was hiding behind the racks! Good place to observe everything. China passed a big milestone for a 4 year old cat this week. She learned to walk outside on her leash. WELLL, maybe she didn't totally master it, but she was very good on the deck. She has been wearing her collar and is very nice and polite about putting it on and off, even purrs. We have a harness on order, so more adventures are in store. China absolutely HAS to learn to travel better. We took our Airstream up to the dealer yesterday to get some minor repairs done. We probably won't trailer until fall, but we want China to be confident and to make sure she can't run away. When we were in Yellowstone last year, we helped a woman look for her cat that had slipped out of their RV. Julie and Ediina are coming for a visit in a couple of weeks. I wish we could get China and Edina to be comfortable in the same room. Edina is so scared and attacks China. Ahh, well, sing to your mirror and think of Angel birdies! Maybe they can hear you! Hi, Woody, I love logging onto your page and looking into your sweet little face! Dad is OK, the antibiotic salve did the trick! We had some snow this morning and it was cold and blustery. I have been treating myself to a day of knitting. China was so sleepy she didn't even help me. You are kinda outnumbered there by cats, aren't you? You are getting up there in years, too. I think you can be excused for sitting with your head in the bell! Tookie used to do that, too. Ringing in the head is GOOD! Tookie's Mom with a vote for you.

  Hello, Woody
Hi, This is Tookie's Mom. Thank you for thinking of us! Are those cats leaving you alone, Woody? We went to the lake for 10 days. It was really strange without Tookie, but China kept us busy. We now realize how unique Tookie was in loving travel. China is definitely NOT a good traveler! She can't seem to travel without getting into a mess. Tookie would have really thought she was lower class! She has to travel in a medium dog carrier. Maybe that is degrading for a cat??? She faces front with the cat box in the back half of the carrier. Well, that big tail and those furry britches are NOT an advantage when you are having a problem. When we got home Dad had to fill the bathtub twice and use the baby shampoo to get her clean. THEN, when he was using the hair dryer on her, she jumped off and he got three deep claw marks on his wrist from her back claws. She hit a vein and may have gotten a tendon. What behavior! We know well-behaved birds never do anything like that!!! Dad is recovering and probably won't need antibiotics. Cats are fun, but, you know, Woody, dear friend, that birds are SUPERIOR!   Thanks for the visit!
Hello, Woody, Thanks for stopping by to say hello. We have been home a few weeks now and I still think Tookie will be there when I come into the kitchen. I catch myself getting popcorn for him when I make some and my husband still whistles for him when he comes into the house. We have some supplies that we need to give away. When I think back at how much Tookie loved to travel, I am amazed. Our new kitty is trying to learn, but it will be hard. When I said, "Tookie WANTS to GO!" and brought out his warm cage cover, he always danced and sang. He knew there would be trucks to watch and Bruce would need help driving! Such good memories! Woody, enjoy your carefree days! Life is good! Sylvia (Tookie's mom)

  Missing Tookie
Hello, Woody, This is Tookie's mom. We just returned from our two month trip to Florida. It seemed very quiet without Tookie. We miss his cheerful greetings every day. We came home through New Jersey to pick up our cat, Plumecrazy China Blue. We had gotten her a couple of months before our trip, but she "vacationed" in New Jersey with our daughter. Tookie liked cats and had already decided that China was "his" cat. China is trying to be a good companion, but she just can't learn to sing! Ah, well. Tookie's cage went to the Humane Society in Ft Myer's for a rescue bird. I think he would approve. Tookie had a great trip to Florida and had been singing to the mirror, pecking our hands, and flying a little, just enjoying life, when he just suddenly died. I guess it is a good way to go, just having birdie fun. Thank you for your sympathy. Sylvia

We we were very sad to hear that Grandma and Grandpa’s 21 year old cockatiel Tookie (bird #8606 on the Bird Channel) went to the Rainbow Bridge today. He showed no signs of being sick. They had him since he was 6 weeks old! It is very hard for them, but at least they will have kitty China Blue again when they get back from Florida. Purrs, Edina

  On the Road
Hi, Woody, Just checking in. We are still on the road in our travel trailer. This campground has Internet! My mom added two new pictures to my page. They are the last two and show me in the back seat of the truck with my bungee cords fastened, ready to travel. The other one shows me on the sink in the railer. We have been to the ND Badlands, 10 days in Yellowstone, the Tetons, a night in Casper Wyoming, and are ready for our week in the Black Hills. We are there, now, enjoying some rain! I found flying a challenge at the high altitudes, but I was out inside the trailer every day trying and hopping around. Funny how different it is to fly at 8000 feet! Yesterday my Mom and Dad ate hamburgers and French fries in the truck I DEMANDED a fry and would not take "no" for an answer! It was yummy! I love junk food! More when I land somewhere! I overheard that we might be home October 6. Mom bought me six bags of Albertson's parakeet seed, I simply love it. No Albertson's at home. Chomp, crack, sing, sing, Tookie

  Chirping my way to Yellowstone
Hi, Woody, Poor birdie! I was so sorry to hear of the sadness in your life. We birdies can't understand, but we can feel. It was good to hear that your Mom and Dad are keeping you safe from Alex. I can see he can still not be trusted! Julie and Edina have been visiting us in Lakeland and at our lake cottage during August. We had a ball, but the time went by so fast! Now, human sis, Julie, has to go back to teaching in New Jersey and we are going to the parks, again. Like last year and the year before last, and, . . . ., well, you get the idea. Off to the North Dakota Badlands, Montana, Cody Wyoming, Yellowstone, Tetons, Black Hills, and back through the Badlands of North Dakota, then, home. I overheard my Mom talking and she said we would be away over a month in our Airstream trailer until the first week of October. The bad thing is that I can't add blogs because there is no Internet there. A few places have this thing called "wireless" and if we find one, we can read mail and logs, but I wouldn't bet my beak on it! I love the photo of you with your mirror! I love my mirror the best! I refused to eat any more Cheerios! I never acquired the taste. I love TOAST, COOKIES, POPCORN and other junk food. Bring it on! I hope you can get attention, too! Chirps and Pecks, Tookie

  Hey, Woody!
Hi, Woody, We saw the mess Alex made of the TP! What a look on his face! You really need to watch out for him when he is insanely playing! We are back in Minnesota again. What a rollercoaster (uhh, what am I saying?), Ford truck ride this summer has been! First, in May, we went out to my human sis's in New Jersey to help her look for a house to purchase. What a bore! Those humans were so excited that I did not get my attention! I had to be locked in the living room, too, what an indignity! Anyway, we stayed until early June. Luckily, they found a house 30 miles west in New Jersey. It is a neat place right near a lake, built in the 1950s. There was some kind of thing going on, so we drove all the way back to Minnesota, to wait. Then, when we went back, you would not believe it! The living room was full of boxes. There were some before we left, but this was wild! Edina, Julie's cat, thought they were all for her and would climb up and look me right in the face, ahem, cage! Then, the good stuff started with something they call "closing". Why, I can't imagine because it was "opening" the new house. One day, Mom and Dad loaded my cage in the back seat of the truck and Edina's carrier in the front seat. Dad drove. Mom sat with me because EDINA gets carsick! We drove to the new place. WOW! Is it ever neat! I got to sit on the wide counter beside the sink where I could see everything, and I mean, everything! Most every day I got to sit on the deck in the shade of big trees and watch the natives. They all speak Eastern bird talk, my dad says that cardinals have accents! All the boxes disappeared, flattened and sent on to someone else that was "moving". We stayed until everything looked like a real house. But, I was glad to get back in the truck and help Dad drive home to Minnesota. We will be here about a week and if it gets a little cooler, we will all go to our lake home. Then, I overheard Mom saying that Edina and Julie are coming here to visit. Will I ever get all the attention??? That pesky cat pretends to be SO cute! How can humans like all that fur?? I hope you are having a great summer. Please watch Alex and take care! Knock, knock, chirp, Tookie

  Traveling Again
Hi, Woody! My cage has been all over lately with me in it! After we got back from Florida, we were at home for about 10 days, then we drove up north 7 hours to my Mom and Dad's lake home. It was shivery cold! We had lots of snow while we were there, but we were warm inside. Then, the sun came out and the snow was just like diamonds. After a week, we came back to Lakeland. Spring started and I have been out on the deck for lunch about four times in my cage! I see butterflies, other birds, airplanes, lots of things! In about a week and a half I will be off again to go to New Jersey to see my human sister! She has a big Maine Coon cat, so there will be lots of excitement to watch. It takes four days to drive there in our red pickup truck, so I will get to stay in motels, again. I hope they have those big mirrors! They are the best, they have a very pretty bird in them! By the way, I am nearly 21 and I have never been to a vet. Once when I was about a year old, in the night, I was not feeling well and my Dad used the bird help center. It was 20 below outside, so they said to heat me up. My Dad and Mom put a heating pad under my cage and covered me. I was fine in the morning! Cheery chirps, Tookie

Hiya Woody! How've you been? I've been well, I miss my mom because normally durring the summer I get to spend LOTS of fun time with Mommy especially since she got me a shower stand for bath time but she went to Europe and then she came home, but only for a week and Then she had to go back to school for the fall semester, and then for Christmas she had surgery and she couldn't talk and sing to me like she normally does and that made me really nervous because she was so quite the whole time and now she's back at school but hopefully I'll be able to see her sometime soon! I do hope that I get to live as old as you! Your mom must be wonderful too!   What is that white stuff?
Hi, Woody, Well, I am back swinging from the ceiling between the kitchen and dining area in Minnesota looking out at some white stuff on the ground. Whew! It was a lot of work flying home from Florida! We left on Saturday and arrived home on Friday, day before yesterday. First, we went to visit north of Tampa. I had a fine view there of a larg swimming pool. I will ask Mom to post a picture. It was warm, but I had to wear my fleece cage cover when we arrived in Jacksonville Beach. It got warmer and I sat beside the sliding glass door to the lanai. Was OK, but I prefer being in the car! Then, we went to three motels on the rest of the way home. Not like be admired by my Mom and Dad's friends, but there were mirrors! We got home and when we crossed the bridge from Wisconsin to Minnesota a few blocks from home, I sat up oon my swing and started to sing! I knew I was nearly home! Now, I can fly a lot further and am banging my head inside my bell on my play pen and, well, it is great! Why can't they take my play pen to Florida? I guess I know. I was packed into the back seat with a bunch of new towels someone bought on a sale somewhere and a lamp shade, and . . . you would not believe it. I could hardly see to fly haning on the cage. If I did not help by looking over Dad's shoulder, where would we be? Are you behaving yourself? Chirp, Chirp, Tookie

Tweety needs your votes for her poem. Her foot had to be amputated Feb. 26th due to the main blood supply being cut in her leg. We had to separate her from her cage mate. I wanted to get her a big cage to move (fly around) in and after paying 258.00 for her leg to become amputated we could not afford to buy her the cage of her dreams. We notice that she flies a little to get around her cage and can defiantly use a bigger one. Thank you; please visit her web site at www.1luckybird.com

  Parasites!
Hi, Woody,

It is so good that you got rid of those parasites! I did enjoy the cheerios, but have never tasted other cereal. My mom said she will check for those small boxes at the store. You are so lucky to have a good Avian vet! We had popcorn last night, my favorite treat! We had a hectic valentine's day, someone was taken sick in my mom's family. Luckily, they seem to be recovering in some place called a hospital. Hope I don't have to go there! I was bored by all the telephoning, so I slept. Then, at midnight, I decided it was concert time and I gave one of my loudest! Everyone was in bed, so I had a great audience! Spoil sports, they turned off my night light and I only had the hall light! Thanks for stopping by! Tookie

  Migration by Cage
Hi, Woody, Thanks for the visit! Yes, I am in Florida. Did you see that weather in Minnesota? Migration was the only answer! I have traveled all over the country in my cage, securely belted and attached by bungee cords to the back seat. Did you see my fleecy cage cover in my photos? When it gets way below zero, I also wear a windbreaker of plastic over the double fleece cover my mom made. I have been in at least 13 states. We go to Yellowstone Park, the Tetons, the Black Hills, to North Dakota, to our lake home, to New Jersey to visit my human sister and Edina, and to Florida every year. I have learned to fly around everywhere, but I am always cautious if I think Edina is not locked up. I check all around looking into the corners on the floor, first. Not that any of the cats have ever bothered me, but why tempt them? I can see why you are being careful. Everyone says those Cheerios are really good. We don't have cereal here, except oatmeal. My mom will have to get me some! I will demonstrate until I get it! I yell "toast" in the morning. It worked and we had some today! Tookie

  Hello
Hi, Woody! I flipped in to leave a vote for you because you are middle aged, although not as old as I am, look so alert, and because you live with cats! I used to own a cat, a Siamese. She died when she was almost 20 and it was quiet until my parent's daugher brought her cat to visit. Her cat, now, is Edina. She left you a message. We are alike, you and I. I am also in love with my mirror, "pretty bird", and I like to stick my head in my bell and ring away! At first, I did not like it when my dad took my mirror out of my cage, but, now I know it is a sign that we are going to fly and play. He runs into another room and clatters the chain against the mirror. I fly in to find him. When I was just a chick, I used to get a little panicked and sat on his head. Now, I go to his hand or shoulder. Many years ago, (see I am showing my age), they built me a play pen. There is a photo on my page. My bell is there, and my ladder, a bowl of food and other things. I can sit there for hours and watch TV and doze! Just now, today, I am sitting on the lanai with all the sliding glass doors open to the screens. I am in my cage, watching Sanibel Island go by. We will be here until early in March, when we start home to Minnesota! Come to visit me! Tookie
