Almonds in the shell and raisins. Mal is the only parrot I know that does not eat nutriberries.

Mal loves to hang out at the top of her cage or on my lap. She will sit in my lap and preen while we watch movies together.

Mal hates, HATES the green plastic peanut.

She understands my body language.

Malachite can dump any bird dish made, including the JV Croc-lock. She is very mechanical and loves to untie knots. She also is fond of watching Matt Lauer on TV..

  Well Malachite
This concludes the Mighty Macaw's season of baseball. We took a fall to the Amazon team this afternoon which really sealed the deal about bein' in the playoffs. That's definitely a no-go at this point. But hey, it's been fun playin' ball with you this summer. Thanks a whole bunch for sayin' yes and signin' on with the MMs even though you knew your Mom is one busy gal. Me and the rest of the team, we really appreciate it.

How's things been with you? What's been keeping you busy lately? Me, I've been doin' my usual, shredding of t-shirt material or retired beach towels. Makes a wonderful mess on the floor, all those strings and chunks of material. Since it hasn't been an extremely hot summer, I've been out in the aviary every day for at least a couple of hours if not more sometimes. And since it hasn't rain much at all I haven't been caught in a downpour out there yet. Believe me, I'm not complainin' about that. Mom just thinks she's so funny when she stands under the overhang of the house and talks to me while water falls from the sky and drenches me. It's only a shower of rain, not a thunderstorm so I'm in no danger. Only of melting perhaps.

Hopin' you're lovin' life and havin' a good time at it.

Thanks again for playin' baseball with me and the rest of the MIGHTY MACAWS!

You ready? Got a wing-dinger comin' at ya.

*With a bat held in one wing, he tosses up a ball with the other then quick, grabs the bat with both wings, SWINGS! and sends the ball sailing, right to Malachite for a practice pop fly catch in preparation for Thursday's game against the Raiders.*

Thought maybe since we have us a game against them Raiders this week we should get in a little practice.

See ya at the ball park on Thursday!

Hey Malachite, what's been happenin' with you? Anything exciting? Okay, how about something boring. I've got some of that t'share. Ha! It's been really nice weather lately but I can't stand t'be outside right now because we've got these stupid little gnats or flies or whatever they are. PESTS, that's what they are. They want to sit on my face or buzz around my head and it drives me crazy. I just sit and either shake my head or scratch at my face so the outside visits aren't lasting very long at all right now. Complete bummer. I hope these insects hurry up and vacation elsewhere 'cause the summer's gonna go by and I'll end up having spent little time in the sun. Hope your days are filled with all sorts of fun stuff.

M'Alice, I know ya’ve been practicin’ like crazy since our last game. An’ all them BazeBol skills we need’re bein’ refined like fine silver. But we’re in for th’ GOLD, Teammie! We want it ALL!! We ain’t settlin’ for nuthin but th’ BEST!!!

THAT’s US … Th’ BEST o’ th’ BEST! Th’ heck with all th’ rest!

Now I know, I know. Th’ results so far this Season may not look like what I’m sayin’ here. But it ain’t over ‘til it’s over. An’ WE’RE JUS’ GETTIN’ STARTED!

We got our 3rd Game o’ th’ Season tomorrow at KEVLAR Memorial Stadium. We’re hostin’ Da Pois ‘N’ Dem. We ain’t won one yet, an’ they ain’t lost one yet. But we’re gonna change all that tomorrow! Right?! RIGHT!!

We’re gonna give ‘em a dose o’ their own Pois’n’! HA! We’re gonna turn th’ tide! We’re gonna show ‘em a M’caw trick ‘r two! We’re gonna take home the “W” this time!!!

But we can’t do that less’n ya get yer tail feathers (not t’ mention th’ REST o’ your feathers) out t’ th’ Stadium an’ play your little heart out. Wait … WHAT’M I SAYIN’?! Play your MIGHTY HEART out!!!

We’re gonna be sendin’ out that first pitch, courtesy o’ our own Mr SKY at 3:00 pm Eastern Time, 2:00 pm Central Time, 1:00 pm Mountain Time, an’ Noon Pacific Time. But it wouldn’t hurt none if’n ya was able t’ get all them feathers o’ your’n t’ th’ Stadium just a tad earlier an’ get nice an’ warmed up, an’ get in a little Pre-Game practice with th’ rest o’ th’ Team.

I’ll be there from early mornin’ as us’al. If’n ya don’t see me, I’m hidin’ … er … WORKIN’ in th’ office on th’ Battin’ Lineup an’ Game Stra-ge-dy an’ such. Jus’ come find me. An’ who knows, if’n I can get Ma off HER lazy tail feathers, we jus’ might be able t’ have some goodies ready for ev’rybirdy, just like all th’ other Teams seem t’ be doin’. Seems like maybe that might be somethin’ we could do t’ up our chances o’ winnin’. An’, hey, if’n ya got somethin’ o’ your own that ya wanna bring t’ share, DO IT! Eats. Drinks. Bring it all!

But most important, bring yourself an’ your gear!

See ya there. Be there. Or be ? !!!

PS: Ma had some trouble emailin’ ev’rybirdy b’fore Games 1 an’ 2. If’n ya didn’t get either o’ those emails (th’ first one, “Macaws Season Opener TUESDAY!!!” had th’ guidelines for Participation for Players this Season, and th’ second one, “Mighty Macaws vs Quaker Little Dragons” had the 2013 BirdChannel Birdie BazeBol Regular Season Calendar” attached), would ya let me know?   Hey Malachite, our MM Short Stop!
How goes it with you these days? What's happenin' in MD? Hopefully it's not as chilly there as it has been in Illinois lately. Geesh, I thought it was safe t'get excited about spending time in the aviary. WRONG-O. Turns out if it's only mid-spring, a parrot shouldn't get his hopes up about workin' on his tan. You can't soak up much sun if you're still havin' to wear your winter parka. Okay, so it's not that cold here but it's close. I ain't seen snow but let's just say I wouldn't be surprised if I did.

Since we took a bit of a beating the other day at the ball park... okay, so it was a lose by only one point, sorry, but it felt like about a dozen... let's see if a little practice don't make a difference. I'm not a pitcher but I'm willing to throw you a ball you can smash out of the park. –– –– –– –– –– ~~~ --0

  Hey There Ya MIGHTY MACAW!
Assistant Coach RaneBeau here with some news you may be excited t'hear. I've got player's positions!! Yup, I do. Jake tells me these were decided by luck of the draw, literally. He and his parronts put the team players in one hat and the playing positions in another and then he supervised them each drawing one from each hat. Here's how it turned out:

PITCHER Sky 224183
CATCHER Scarlet 150977
1st Base RaneBeau 14079
2nd Base Floop 91788
3rd Base Chica 204081
Short Stop Malachite 8752
Left Field Jake 66865
Center Field Chyna 221660
Right Field BigBaby 11078
Short Field Joshua Chico 242006
Reserve Athena 247169
Reserve Ducky 186318

And there ya have it TEAMMATES! The O-FFCIAL roster of the MIGHTY MACAWS for the 2013 Birdie BazeBol season!

Now, what we'll be needin' is a picture or two (or three - we can't never have too many) of you so your baseball picture can be whipped up. Try and strike a pose that's a good one for balancing a hat on your head and sit real still while the camera's doin' its thing so the photo's nice and focused. A blurry picture makes for a blurry baseball photo! Send your pics either to me or to Coach Jake and if you don't have either of our addys, just ask and I'll get that for ya. While I have pics of lots of you, you may want t'see yourself in a new pose so don't hesitate to share a NEW picture with Coach Jake or myself. (His mom'll be making our team pictures.)

And here's a practice throw to you, Mal.

Hey girl, how are ya? Are ya seein' any signs of SPRING there yet? It's been tryin' to show up here but then we get a chilly day again like we did t'day and it feels like warmer weather will never make it here to stay.

I've got a great big important question to ask you. Would you be interested, could you be talked into considering playin' baseball this season? The MIGHTY MACAWS just wouldn't be as mighty without you on the team. I know there's not as much time for BC playin' but that'd wouldn't affect your standing on the team; we really need ya so we've got enough players to make TWO TEAMS. Yup, ya heard that right; 2 TEAMS. There's just enough of us macaws do create a double force of MIGHTY. Jake's still gonna be coachin' the MM team, I'm just here as Assistant Coach to help get things finalized before Opening Day which is set for the first part of May. Please oh please say you'll think about it. I's really wants ya t'be a part of the team like old times.

  Hey Mal ~
Ah, look atcha all smiles and grins 'cause the Ravens won the SuperBowl. I was just happy it was team with a bird's name. Made my day.

It's definitely been an unusual winter — very little snow, not all that cold although the 6° for tonight would beg to say otherwise, and earthworms. Yup, you read that right; earthworms. My uncle was out with his dog a month or so ago and noticed things moving in the grass. Normally this time of year nothing's moving in the grass, including the grass. Usually everything's frozen in place, but this year with it being much warmer, there's not even been frost in the ground. We'd had a little rain and WA-LA, the earthworms showed up for some moon bathing! The uncle don't drink so I don't think he was imagining. Strange year for sure.

Thanks for the hatchday wishes! I had a great day, I did. I love not having t'share any mom time with anybirdie else if I don't want to. Best prezzie ever! I did get a new ball which is what was wrapped up in those photos of me on my special day. The picture of Riley and I was put together on HER hatchday which is just two days after mine. Hers fell on Mardi Gras this year so we partied it up there.

Glad t'know you're not buried in snow and going stir crazy waiting for spring to show up. Well, you might still be stir-crazy but that's pretty much the norm this time of year, right?

Have a good one Pretty Girl

  Hello Malachite
Does this note find you buried in snow or did ya get lucky and miss this storm? It's weird t'think that some birds have nearly 3' of the white stuff in their yard while here I haven't got a single snowflake on the ground. If one did happen to drift by, it'd melt because it hasn't been all that cold here lately. Boy, talk about a mild winter. We're gonna pay for this come summer — there'll be no break from the BUGS.

  *H*A*P*P*Y* • *N*E*W* • *Y*E*A*R* !!!
I'm hopin' it's off to a good start for you. I'm not just a little late, I'm a whole lot late with my holiday greetings. My social life has taken a major hit in the last month and I'm none too happy about it. Maybe I need t'do a bit more yelling, posturing and fluffing up t'get things changed around here before my BC friends think I've dropped off a cliff. he hee

You were tellin' me about your no-problem snow, how it'd fall then get washed away by afternoon rain. That IS quite the system! The blizzard snow that piled up here the week before Christmas has stayed put until this week. The temps are up above freezing for the first time since that blizzard so the ice and drifts are finally melting. I gotta tell ya, it's been mighty entertaining watching the humans try and walk down the driveway that's outside one of my birdroom windows. They slip and slide and sometimes flail their arms as if they're tryin' to fly. Very amusing. har har. I never did see one go down which I guess is a good thing. Humans that go splat end up spending a lot of time complainin' about the sore spots and I'd rather hear them talk about me than their bruises.

Hopin' concerns at your mom's work have eased a little although I get the feeling that's not really a possibility these days. I know there's lots of concerned conversations here about our country's future. If history repeats itself, and it does, there could be some nasty bites comin'.

Keep that pretty beak of yours smilin', Mal. It's what makes the world a better place.

  Hello Malachite!
My apologies for the big delay in gettin' back to you after Thanksgiving. Those football helmets are t'blame; I had mom doing the 50 some pictures for the one time event and wasn't gettin' any time for bloggin'. I've been helpin' Kiddo out with those Milonga parties he's been doin' for years here. I offered mom services on creating some visuals for our virtual get-togethers. I wasn't thinkin' when I suggested we have us a game of football for Thanksgiving... football has a LOT of players on each team!! But it turned out great and I think everybirdie had a great time. If you'd like t'see all the pics that were done, visit page 165848.

I'm so glad t'hear your survived SuperStorm Sandy. Sounded pretty scary with all that wind and rain, and no power, no heat. Makes my feathers fluff up just thinkin' about it. I've heard from Bobbi in Ocean City but at the moment I can't think what she said about how things went there. I just know she's okay which is a relief, huh? Glad t'know you're okay too.

Good chattin' with you—

How's things with you? Keepin' busy and out of trouble? You probably don't ever even THINK about gettin' into trouble! Me, I have my moments. It keeps life interesting. The latest is quietly slipping out of my room and hiking to the living room and hiding behind one of the easy chairs. I suppose I could sit there forever, unnoticed and undetected if I could just keep myself from laughin' about bein' there. Yesterday mom walked by twice and didn't know I was there but then I had t'go and ruin it by chuckling. She stopped and listened and then noticed my tail stickin' out.   Hello Malachite!
Has it really been over two months since I came by for a chat? Geesh. What a bum of a friend I am. Actually, there for several months I didn't get much bloggin' in. Mom was having a great time makin' pirate pictures for SamIAm during his campaign which didn't leave as much time for BC blogging. Then, I don't know, all of a sudden she said she needed a break from all things computer. The machines actually went days at a time without being turned on. I was sure I'd croak without talkin' to my BC pals! Fortunately they remember who am I now that I'm back.

What a bummer your mom sprained her ankle and cancelled her chances of participatin' in that marathon. Is the ankle feeling better now or is she still having to treat it with TLC? I'm sure you're not complainin' about her slowin' down a bit and hangin' out with you instead.

It's been the hottest summer I can remember, and the driest too. Up until two weeks ago, we'd not had any rain since mid-June. None. Everything was pretty much brown and dead. The flowers mom watered faithfully were the only spot of color in the yard. Last week 2" of rain feel and then over the weekend Hurrican Isac blessed us with 4.5". The amazing thing is how fast everything turned GREEN again. Hope you get some needed rain from this system. I just look at the radar - maybe you're gettin' it NOW!

Lookin' forward to seeing that video of you. Let me know when it's posted somewhere. I wanna look!

Happy Labor Day

Okay, so I'm like two weeks slow in gettin' a note back to you after your June 6th visit. First thing I gotta mention is that YES, we had us a look at that website for the G/ATOR Air Task Oriented Radar. Cool stuff right there! And no, the site's listing is still on my pages... way back on May 29. Thanks for sharing it.

Interesting that your mom saw the Gator logo on that strange transport unit. I've not seen the green machine in the drive for a couple of weeks. The uncle's been driving his truck over here instead of the utility vehicle.

Have you been successful in keepin' your mom home since she got back? You'd think bein' a really good macaw would definitely help. I've been a little ticked with my mom ever since she got back from her Colorado trip. She won't let me give her that customary pinch I always have to give her after she's been away. She keeps evading me when I do my little jab thing. If she'd just toughin' up and get it over, I could relax but no, she's bein' a chicken this time. I'm still giving kisses but I also want to give that little pinch. I wouldn't have to do this if the mom would just stay home where she belongs!

Hope you're in the mood for rain t'day. Looks like you could be gettin' some.

Later, Pretty Girl.

  Hi BratBird
That other Tiel in the picture is Jabber's hatchmate, and is not coming here. I think it's the one that's getting a home in N.Carolina. Have to check to make sure. Tweet.

  Hi BratBird
YEah, in 50 years or so, there probably won't be many of the lovely birds as we know them today. the world is changing too fast, and the growth factor doesn't take them into consideration. It's sad. Tweet.

  Morning Bratbird

Rio De Janeiro - The list of Amazon bird species
facing danger of extinction has risen sharply because
their rainforest habitat is being slashed to make
room for cattle ranching and agriculture, a
conservation group has said.

Bird Life International said that globally, 1,331 types
of birds, or 13 percent of the world's 10,064 total
bird species were listed as at risk on this year's Red
List, up from 1,253 on last year's list.
