Hi Everyone, I have some great news to share with you all. I was entered into my very first ever bird show by my birdsitter/bree- der. I was in the novice division for senegals. In two days I came away with a total of 6 ribbons. 4 first place ribbons, one 4th place and one 5th place ribbon. Could have won more but since my wings are clipped it held me back. When mom takes pics of me with my ribbons she is going to place them here on my page for all to see. She is so proud of me. Both my senegal parents were top show winning birds. Brother Maxi also won honorable mention for looking so good for his age of 15 3/4yrs.. ............. Met her at a bird fair. She took an instant liking to me and chose me as her new owner. I wasn't going to buy a bird but when she chose me, I just had to take her home. It was instant love!... ...HATCHDATE JAN 26, 2003..

  Hi Sweetpepper
If mom thinks of opening the camera case, she might take some pics of the babies.
This morning mom got the letters to the tax folks off in the mail. She sent 2, one for the municipal tax and one for the school tax, and both went certified, so she'll have a record of them being collected. She is hoping that will lead to a quick refund, but we all think she's having a pipe dream. After mailing the letters, she went to 4 stores before she found the right vitamins for her eyes that the retina people told her to take. You would think they'd be easier to find than that.
Now she's home, the house is clean, and she isn't going back outside until the pool opens at 3:30, so she's ours for the day. It's another beautiful summer day here, hope you are having the same. Get lots of love today! Hugs, Falco

  Hi SweetPepper
It's Alex.
Yesterday was kind of a non-work day. Dad just tidied things up and mom watched TV. Dad did say that he needs to take the carpet machine and re-rinse the bedroom carpet. He didn't get all the shampoo out of it and it's kind of like walking on dried grass.
Later in the day, dad's friend, Bob came over and they all went to the new little fish restaurant that mom and dad discovered. Then Dad and Bob sat and talked about the old days when they were young. Funny thing, they never talked about their younger days during the civil war. I'm sure they were both there.
Today will be partly cloudy, with a high of 95 and a low of 69. Sounds like a good day for the movies. But we don't know yet.
Hope your day was fun.
Hugs,
Alex.

  Hi Sweetpepper
In case you didn’t get cake and ice cream or any other foods from my hatchday yesterday there is plenty left so just help your self. Sunday evening mom and dad went to see the Duquesne University Tamburitzans perform. They both enjoyed it a lot. The singing and dancing was from the European countries so mom had no idea what the words were but dad knew a few of the words. Mom said it sounded very pretty any way and dad agreed. The costumes were so colorful and added to the show as well. By the time the parronts got home I was sound asleep but I did come out to give mom a kiss good night and then mom covered me up and I soon fell back to sleep again. “If your alone, I’ll be your shadow. If you want to cry, I’ll be your shoulder. If you want a hug I’ll be your pillow. If you need to be happy, I’ll be your smile. But anytime you need a friend, I’ll just be me.   MY LOVELY WIFEBIRD
WELL, YOUR MOM KNOWS ALL ABOUT ENSURE, BUT MY MOM ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMENDS CHICKEN BROTH (THE KIND YOU USE FOR COOKING USUALLY) HEATED UP IN THE MICROWAVE FOR A MINUTE THEN COOLED DOWN WITH LOW FAT MILK. SHE ACTUALLY LIKES THAT STUFF, AND IT IS HER MOST COMMON MEAL. THAT IS USUALLY BREAKFAST, AND THEN SHE HAS A HALF BOTTLE OF ENSURE FOR MID MORNING, AND USUALLY A GLASS OF CHAI ICED TEA WITH MILK FOR LUNCH, BECAUSE BY THEN SHE HAS A HEADACHE. SHE DIDN'T NEED TO TAKE A PAIN PILL LAST NIGHT TO SLEEP, AND ALTHOUGH SHE DID HAVE SOME PAIN SHE WAITED IT OUT AND IT WENT AWAY. THAT MEANT NO WEIRD DREAMS, WHICH SHE CONSIDERES A GOOD TRADE OFF.

HOORAY! NOT ONLY IS MOM FEELING BETTER, SHE IS THINKING BETTER. SHE WAS SITTING IN MY ROOM FEELING BAD ABOUT NOT BEING ABLE TO TAKE ME OUTSIDE, WHEN SHE GLANCED AT THE OLD CARRIER I USED TO USE. IT WEIGHS NEXT TO NOTHING, AND I WAS QUITE HAPPY TO CLIMB RIGHT IN. IT IS TOO SMALL FOR TOYS OR EVEN TO PUT A NUTRIBERRY THRU THE BARS, BUT WE DIDN'T CARE. WE SPENT A GOOD 35 MINUTES OUTSIDE BEFORE I GOT RESTLESS, AND MOM PROMISED WE WOULD GO OUTSIDE AGAIN TOMORROW. THEN AS SOON AS SHE IS ALLOWED TO PICK UP HEAVIER STUFF, WE WILL GO BACK TO THE OTHER CAGE. I CAN LIVE WITH THAT.

AND I AM BEING SUCH A GOOD BIRD. RIGHT NOW I AM SITTING ON MOM'S KNEE WHILE SHE BLOGS FOR ME. SHE PROMISED AS LONG AS I BEHAVE, EACH OF THOSE ONE HOUR SESSIONS THAT SHE HAS TO SIT UPRIGHT AFTER EATING (READ AS DRINKING), WILL BE SPENT WITH ME! I AM A HAPPY BOY, AND I AM BEING PERFECTLY BEHAVED. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM REAPING ALL THE CUDDLE BENEFITS.

MOM FORGOT TO GO BY MAXI'S PAGE YESTERDAY, AND SHE CAN ONLY BLAME THE DRUGS. PLEASE TELL YOUR FAMILY I MISS HIM TOO.

Day 26- troubles comin our way
Howdy cow-wranglers, Chuey here with today's Cattle Drive Update. We rode double watches during the night to keep an eye open for our friend Black Bart. We were waitin' for him and his raggedy band of vultures to swoop down on our herd and run' em off in the middle of the night, but all was quiet. Too quiet!
"Boss," Polly whispers " what' d ya think he's up too?"
"Well, ain't too sure. He's been trailin' us since we headed out, ain't sure at all" I answered, not sure what to say beyond that.
" JL and Sky sent back word through Kiddo and Spot that Black Bart had hankered down over yonder by Llano. They been talkin' real quiet-like, makin plans" Jedi reports. I nod, and give Cutter his head as we make one round of the herd to update the others on what I just learned.
We kept the herd close-up and movin' pretty steady through the mornin' and by mid-day we'd already covered six miles. I'd just set down to some hot vittles when Chyna came gallopin' in, stoppin in a cloud of dust and horse sweat. " the rustlers are saddled up and movin to the rocks west of Beef Trail Crossin'. Jenny-Lynn and Sky are followin' 'em so they don't make a slip on us and get us by surprise. "
Chyna hopped off Dyna-Dancer, and Rio grabbed the lead and walked her to the corral, stripin' her saddle off and rubbin' her down good. BonBon ropes a silver dapple and throws the saddle over his muscular back, tightenin' the straps good, and leads him over to where Chyna is eatin' a quick bowl of stew before headin' back to join up with JL and Sky.
"tell them two not to get gun-crazy too soon, we wanta teach Bart a lesson 'bout his thieving' ways"
I grabbed up Cutters reins, as I sprung onto his back, given him a slap on the shoulder we were off on a gallop to warn the point riders to b e ready for the "party"
"Sky, look" Jenny-Lynn points out the hoof prints of two new riders crossin' those of Black Bart and his band of rustlers." Sky leans over the shoulder of his horse Chief and studies them for a minute.
"Yep, looks that way" Sky clicks to Cutter and they move out followin' the new set of tracks for a spell to see who it is that has joined the rustlers. They didn't have to ride long before they spied the gang, settled down in the brush, with a smoke-less fire heatin' a pot of grub. Black Bart was in deep conversation with the two new comers, while the others kept a watch for the herd on the trail. It was here, hidden by the rocks and brush that Chyna caught up with them. She had brought them food from the dragon-wagon and they ate it in silence as they kept watch on their friends below .
Suddenly, the camp was alive with activity as the rustlers caught up their horses, and silently packed up their belongin's. " Ok boys, they're gonna be here in a few hours, lets get us ready, "SLIM, you and Twitch get over to the rock corral and make sure that the herd can't escape when the rest of us drive them in there."

  Hi Sweetpepper
Happy Birthday to Mother Theresa, may she rest in sainted peace. She sure brought about change in her ministry.
Today mom had a lot of errands to run before blogging, and she still isn't really done. She took the dogs to the new groomer, and they look and smell divine now! She also had to get more blankets and stuffed animals for the squirrels, pick up some wild bird seeds, go to the grocery and buy fresh veggies and fruits for us. By the time she got that done, it was time to feed the squirrel babies, so she came home and did that, then the groomer called, so she went to pick up the girls.
Later she is going to the pool, then hoping to find the vitamins she needs for her eyes, going to Aunt Gin's house to make a copy of her property assessment for the local tax office. These folks are willing enough to send out statements when they get their assessments from the county, but not willing to accept that the house has been reassessed, even though we know the county sent them a statement. They want mom to send a statement too, so she can get a refund. Whatever, though, she'll do it.
We may be in lockdown longer than normal today, but we know she'll be back to clean cages and spend at least a little time with us tonight. Hope you are having a good day, getting lots of sunshine and cuddles. Hugs, Falco

  Hi SweetPepper
It's Alex.
Whenever we see dad walking by with a hammer and a drill we know that something will never be the same again. Yesterday he decided to move one of our security cameras. Ok, that sounds simple enough. No big deal for dad. He used to do it for a living. Well, taking the camera down from its old location was a snap. Dad had it down in a few minutes. Now, here's where the fun comes in. Where to put the camera so it will cover the front of the house and front porch at the same time. Dad found a location by plugging the camera in and holding it and moving it around while he watched the monitor. Again, no big deal. Dad found a good location and installed the camera. Now, dad had to figure out how to get power to the camera. During testing, he ran the cord out the mail slot on the front door. Can't leave it there cuz the mail carrier would not like it. So dad looked for a good way to run the power from the kitchen to the porch. Here's where the hammer and drill come in. There's already a cable running from the satellite dish, through the wall, into the kitchen. All dad has to do is remove the seal and poke the wire through. Right? WRONG!! Dad drilled, pounded, poked, prodded and shoved for over two hours. He finally got an old two way radio antenna and pushed it through the hole and taped the wire to the end of the antenna. And guess what? The wire slid right through the hole. Now, if dad would have asked us, we could have told him and saved him a bunch of trouble. Oh, and at the same time, mom's dad called about a gazillion times cuz he let some crooks into his computer remotely and they crashed his system and wanted a whole bunch of money to fix it. About two years ago the same crooks called him and did the same thing. Dad was livid and told him to take the computer to Staples and have them fix it. You know the old saying, "Stupid is as stupid does." And, about 7pm he called again. He picked up his computer from Staples and he couldn't type anything. He forgot to plug the keyboard in. Dad says he's going to take the computer away from him.
Today will be partly cloudy, with a high of 89 and a low of 66. Mom and dad have errands to run and later, dad's friend, Bob is going to dinner with them.
Hope your day was fun.
Hugs,
Alex.

This morning we had 74 degrees and cloudy. Then around 11am the t-storm came and we were still at 74 degrees. I gave up on patio time. But, at 3:30pm ... the sun came out and it was SUMMER AND 80 degrees! I quickly put on my tube top, shorts, sunglasses and flip flops ... I was ready! Out to the patio I went with mom ...AHHHH SUMMER! It lasted a little over an hour ... a short but lovely summer.

  Hi Sweetpepper
yup. Wilbur and I have been having some great food training together. its too hot for Wilbur to run.

Another reason to love bees: they might be able to help us fight cancer.

While venom isn’t usually known as a friendly thing, new research shows that venom from bees, snakes and scorpions could potentially be used to fight certain forms of cancer. While you wouldn’t go and inject someone with a dose of venom, which could have lethal effects, researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that if they isolated specific proteins in the venom, these could be used in a safe way to block tumor growth.

“We have safely used venom toxins in tiny nanometer-sized particles to treat breast cancer and melanoma cells in the laboratory,” study author Dipanjan Pan of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, said in a statement. “These particles, which are camouflaged from the immune system, take the toxin directly to the cancer cells, sparing normal tissue.”

Previous studies have shown the potential power of venom, but because of the potentially very dangerous side effects of venom injection — damage to nerve cells, for example — that power couldn’t be properly harnessed.
The toxins in question are peptide toxins. The researchers made a synthetic version in the lab, then injected it into the tiny nanoparticles. “The peptide toxins we made are so tightly packed within the nanoparticle that they don’t leach out when exposed to the bloodstream and cause side effects

When the nanoparticles with the toxins attach to a cancer cell they can either slow down or stop the cancer cell growth, which can ultimately stop a cancer from spreading. what we are interested in are the cells responsible for metastasizing and having the cancer cells grow back,If we can target better using this technique, we potentially have a better cancer treatment.”

Now that they’ve figured out how to synthesize venom and put it in nanoparticles, the next step is to test it out on humans, in the next three to five years.

WELL, MOM IS DEFINITELY LOSING WEIGHT. SHE HAS DROPPED 6 POUNDS ALREADY, AND IT IS STILL THE FIRST WEEK OF THE LIQUID DIET. SHE GETS VERY FULL FROM HALF AN ENSURE OR A CUP OF CHICKEN BROTH AND SKIM MILK. SHE HAS PRETTY MUCH WRITTEN OFF THE BABY FOOD, ALTHOUGH THERE IS SOME MAC AND CHEESE SHE IS GOING TO GIVE A TRY. I'[LL LET YOU KNOW WHAT SHE SAYS.

SHE IS STILL TAKING LOTS OF NAPS, BUT SINCE SHE ALSO HAS TO SIT UPRIGHT FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR AFTER ONE OF HER LITTLE MEALS I USUALLY GET HER THEN. PLUS THE NOT GOING TO THE GYM TILL NEXT MONDAY, AND ONLY STAYING THERE AN HOUR INSTEAD OF TWO WHEN SHE DOES GO ADDS UP TO MORE MOMMY TIME FOR ME. UNFORTUNATELY NONE OF THE STUFF SHE IS EATING IS ANYTHING I WOULD OR CAN EAT. BROTH? YICK! AND ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE HAS CHOCOLATE IN IT. MAYBE THAT MAC AND CHEESE BABY FOOD WILL BE SHARABLE.

NO SUN BATHS THOUGH, AND I SUSPECT THAT WILL TAKE ANOTHER WEEK. I KEEP CLIMBING INTO MY OUTSIDE CAGE, BUT IT DOESNT DO ANY GOOD. IT JUST SITS ON THE TABLE AND DOESN'T GET ME OUTSIDE.

  Day 25--Troubles are a brewin'
Howdy pardners, Chuey here with today's Cattle Trail Update. We had ourselves a restful, peaceful night. The watches went smooth as silk, and not one cow was inclined to stir up any troubles. We filled up on a breakfast of hot biscuits and gravy, bacon, eggs, and some flap-jacks. What a meal that Lizzie, Kaji and Mikey dish out. Could get used to this mighty easy.
As the point riders moved out, aand the dawgies fell into place the mornin' sun was just peakin' over the eastern horizon. I decided to take Baxter and Little Peep with me and scout out ahead a ways for good grazin for the noon stop-over. We'd rode like-wise to four miles when somethin' shiny in the distance caught my eye. We pulled up under the shade of a tree as I watched for a spell. "HHMMMM? Looks like we're 'bout to get us some company" I sat still and watched longer and ate my apple with Baxter and L'il Peep. "Yep! We best be headin' back to the herd, wanta make sure we got the welcome mat out"
By the time we rejoined the herd they were two miles shy of were I'd saw the sun bouncin' off something in the distance. Somethin' like the barrel of a gun!"
"Jenny_lynn, Chyna, Sky, I need ya to ride over towards the west some, cut back at Beef Trail Crossin' . I think we're about to have us some fun."
Sky and the others rode off at a gallop. Pistols were carried in Holsters worn in varies manners. A multitude of holster styles existed and each was made for a specific need. Rifles were carried in hand or in scabbards attached to the saddle or wagon. 'Cowbirds' carried their pistols as tools and kept them in a readily available condition. Most cowbirds were good to excellent marksbirds, relying on their guns to stay alive on the trails.
"We're in for some fancy shootin' cowboys and girls, best ya all get your side-arms at the ready." I rode from wrangler to wrangler. A tension spread swiftly through the group, as we pushed the herd along the trail, gettin' them to pick up a l'il speed.
"BOSS, you sure we can't handle Black Bart?" Zippy asked nervous of the possible outcome
"There's but five or six of 'em against all us, we'll lickin' right good and dandy Zippy!"
Jenny-Lynn, Sky and Chyna had made record time to Beef Trail Crossin, and were doublin back to come up behind them thievin' feather-lice infected rustlers. They ground hitched their horses and creep up nice and slow until they had them in their sights. "Think we might as well blast'em now? " JL asked eager for a good fight.
"Not yet, let's have some fun first" Chyna whispers softly
Sky took a small stone and tossed it far to the left. The rustlers wiped round as if a Ghost had touched ' em." What was that boss?"
"Ain't nuthin' but a chipmunk or the likes of it." Black Bart watched as in the distance the dust cloud appeared, " herds acomin' get ready lads"

  Hi Sweetpepper
Thanks for the update. How's gpa doing? HOpe all goes well with your mom today too, with that root canal! That's some serious dentistry.
Today at the center, mom worked reception again. They released about 70 animals this morning, mostly birds, so there was a ton of filing to do. They keep records on every animal, and when they are done with the animal, whether it was released, died, or was euthanized, that record gets filed for the Game Commission.
Mom came home to feed the squirrels, and one of them has her eyes open! She is a tiny grey squirrel that was marked as 3 weeks old, but clearly with her eyes open, she's much older than that. She must have been the runt of the litter or her mom was not very big. She was just admitted to the center Saturday, so she is still on a very weak formula, but with her eyes open, she's gonna want food soon!
The pool opens late today, and mom wasn't going to go, but it's already in the 80s here, so she will be going up for a brief time to get into the water.
I hope you are having a good day, getting some sun and cuddles. See you at the spa! Hugs, Falco

  Hi SweetPepper
It's Alex.
The ribs were great! But they were done in one third the time. Dad had to pull them out and set them in a baking dish so he could warm them up later. The next time, dad will use less wood chips and less heat.
While the ribs were cooking, dad mowed the front lawn. We can always tell when he's mowed the lawn because he can hardly move. Again, we demanded that he take a shower before dinner.
Today dad is going to move one of the security cameras. It's in a spot that makes it almost useless because there's a tree in front of it. It's either move the camera or cut the tree down. Dad opted for moving the camera.
Today will be, well, if you remember yesterday, last week or last month, today will be the same. Partly cloudy with a high of 84 and a low of 64.
Hope your day is fun.
Hugs,
Alex.

  Hi SweetPepper
What hot weather?????? We are mostly upper 60's and low 70's (if lucky)!
Today I was busy supervising dad. He was repairing and painting the side deck. I know I was a big help. We didn't get our 80 degrees today. It was only 74 and very cloudy. We might get 82 and t-storms on Monday. I think I need a refund on Sunday's weather. At least I had barb-bee-Q chickens and corn still on a cob ... it was deelicious. I guess it made up for lack of sun.
I'm doing laps at spa too.
Good luck to your mom with her root canal.

  Hi Sweetpepper
The free range farming label is one of the biggest marketing scams of our time. consumers who are opposed to the idea of factory farming switch to buying free range eggs, as they are under the impression that these birds live happy healthy lives with the freedom to roam in lush green fields, flapping about in the sunshine and pecking in the dirt. this vision of a free range hen is just an illusion. statistics show that the vast majority of free range hens live in overcrowded cramped conditions and never get the opportunity to feel the sun on their backs, or grass under their feet. The legal requirements for free range hens in the United States only stipulates that hens are given access to the outside, with tiny doors that do not even legally have to be open.
In practice this means that the majority of free range hens never actually go outside and instead live their entire lives in huge, cramped, squalid conditions which lead to feather loss, illness, disease, injury and depression.

Free Range and Factory Farming Practices are Almost IdenticalAs well as considering the lies told about the living conditions of free range hens, it’s important to look at the standard industry practices as well. All eggs come from hatcheries where male chicks are considered to be a byproduct of the process and are crushed alive at just one day old. Females have the tip of their beaks burnt off to prevent pecking injuries to each other and are then crammed into huge crates and sent off to their destination farms, with millions dying in transit due to starvation, dehydration and injury.
iDespite not being housed in individual cages like factory farmed hens, free range egg layers are kept in extremely cramped conditions with as many as 20,000 hens being raised in a single barn, each having a space the size of an iPad.

There is nothing humane about conditions these hens have to endure during their lives, and it is time we started lifting the lid on the myth of free range farming. It is factory farming with a pretty label on the packaging, certainly not a welfare standard consumers should be feeling happy about.

Day 24-- Where the green grass grows
Howdy all, Cowgirl Chuey here with Sunday's Cattle Drive update. It's firstly important to note that after a lot of yellin' hazin' and chasin' we got the herd and remuda cross the Red River and gathered safety on the other side. We sure were bushed when it was all said and done, but there's no rest for the wranglers on the trail. We got ourselves a good fed of grub, and set about a spell talkin' of all the places we'd so far passed through.
The trail proceeded northward, crossing the James River near the site of present Noxville, the Llano at Beef Trail Crossing, the San Saba at Pegleg Crossing, and Brady Creek west of Brady. The trail left the Hill Country through Cow Gap. The Western Trail crossed the Clear Fork of the Brazos near Fort Griffin at the Butterfield-Military Road crossing, where the second feeder trail from Tom Green County, which ran through Buffalo Gap, joined the trunk route. Thence the Western Trail proceeded through Throckmorton, crossed the Brazos at Seymour and the Pease at the site of Vernon, and veered northeastward to leave Texas at what later became known as Doan's Crossing.
The Western Trail crossed the Prairie Dog Town Fork of the Red River a few miles north of Doan's, to enter Greer County, near present day Warren, Oklahoma. We will soon leave the current trail north of Abilene, to take the Potter-Bacon Cutoff to cross the Llano Estacada, ending in Wyoming. Leaving the river, the trail now enters the most dangerous section of the route, the Cheyenne-Arapaho Reservation. Here the drovers frequently meet American Indians who want to supplement their meager government rations with fresh beef. Usually the meetings ended amicably, but in the mid-1880s military escorts were frequently assigned to the trail. However, we have already made contact with the tribal leaders and will cross the territory unharmed.
Weighin' heavy on everyone's mind is the report of Jenny-Lynn, that Black Bart and his gang of rustlers have their hearts set on takin' the herd for themselves. To help protect the wranglers we are riding doubled up, and everybird is packin fire-power, just in case it comes to a real-life western shoot-out.
The cows move slowly, tired from their day long crossin' of the Red. We don't push them hard, but wanta try to get some distance between us and the rustlers before we hit the rough, rugged mountain-like terrain to come. Since Dragon-wagons are prime attack targets because they carry not only food supplies but ammunition. medical and other stocks as well, we have appointed JL, Sky, BB, Chyna and Kiddo to ride guard until we hit the Kansas border northwest of Buffalo Gap.
Happy Trails to you, until, we meet again

We haven't heard from Aunt Pam, but we've been keeping Kiddo and her in the loop of news anyway. Glad she's home and doing okay. Your mom must have really needed the rest if she slept that long. It can't be easy for her taking care of both parents, you, and herself.
Mom has foster squirrels! Last night she got an email saying the center was flooded with babies and they were in desperate need for fosters. This morning mom picked up a baby fox squirrel and a baby gray squirrel, both eyes closed. She wanted to take more, but our space is limited and we only have 2 heating pads. Anyway, that's why we're so late getting online today. Mom had to find her squirrel foster kit in the basement and clean everything today, she's already fed them twice, and she also got to the pool. It's been over a year since she fostered, and it should be fun.
I hope you are having a good day, getting lots of sunshine and scritches! Hugs, Falco

Getting our votes done early today…mom is flying somewhere and might not be back in time to do them later. Today moms other cousin stopped in and mom knew she was coming so had the main door open and the screen locked. I heard her coming and flew to the door and back to my condo and left out big stress call so mom knew a stranger was here. Finally mom got me back in my condo and then let cousin in but I kept screaming so mom had to cover me up for a bit. I got the hint and kept quiet then and mom uncovered me so I just watched and kept quiet.. “Life is not always a matter of holding good cards, but sometimes playing a poor hand well.“ Left a vote for you my friend~~ Gus (RIP Chi chi)

  Hi SweetPepper
It's Alex.
Yup, Dixie's mom told our dad about Herb Salad. Also, a lady at the Magnolia Bird Farm couldn't say enough good about it. She uses it on her birds.
Mom and dad have made a monumental decision! They have decided to use the big, propane smoker that they bought over a year ago, and have never used. Yesterday dad went to Sam's Club and bought $41 worth of spareribs. Thirteen pounds of them. He says that they're his portion and doesn't know what mom is going to eat. Oh yeah, ha ha ha! He froze most of them. He's cooking one slab. He made a BBQ rub from some of the millions of spices that mom has and let the ribs sit over night. He soaked cherry wood in water over night, too. He thinks it'll take about five hours to cook. Wish him luck. Usually when he takes on a task of this magnitude it leads to dinner out somewhere. Anyway, dad will be "baby sitting" the ribs all day. Mom will be baby sitting dad.
Today will be partly cloudy, with a high of 86 and a low of 63. Or, in other words, the same as it has been for the last month.
Hope your day is fun.
Hugs,
Alex

After having a summer of mostly 60's and lots of rain, we are having a good weekend! I bet we only had 10 nice days all summer until today and Sunday should be really good!
I wasn't happy that mom replaced some of my toys and rearranged my condo. So today, I chewed up almost all the new parts ... hehehehe. Every time she cleaned up my artwork, I did more. I also got to go out on the patio for a while and watched dad repair the side deck. I hear that Sunday will be sunny AND 80 degrees ... can you believe that! I think I need a pool and a beach chair just for me. I hope to work on my tan.

Day 23--Crossing the River part 2
Whoopie, Ride 'em down Pookie" I hollered as the bull charged through the millin' herd at the water's edge, and out into the open grasslands beyond, followed by half the herd. Susan and Kacey light out after the herd at top speed, cutting cows back towards the river. The panic of one cow runs wild through a herd, it becomes a dangerous game for both riders on their horses and the herd itself.
" Cut her off Zippy" Rio yells over the thunder of hooves. Zippy maneuvers her horse into the herd, and swings the horse towards the river, turning a fleein' heifer and calf, several others follow her, as they slow their pace to a fast walk in the right direction.
"Giddiy up" Sky slaps Chief on the shoulder as he lunges out of the rushing river, after the runaways. Pookie let's his rope fly, catching the bull by the front leg. He tumbles forwards to the ground, giving the riders time to get in front of the stampede and turn them back. Pookie holds the rope taunt with his horse preventin' that bull movin' for a spell. Finally with the herd slowin' and turning towards the River, the bull staggers to his feet as the rope slacks. Pookie is joined by Gus as they haze him back into the center of the herd once more.
"What expert horsemanship!" I yell across the River to those responsible for stopping a stampede. We'd managed to hold the herd already crossed calmly in the sea of grass. "Ok, let's get' em over" I yell and wave my ok, as the herd is once more pushed into the water and swam over.
It takes a goodly part of the day to move our herd across the river, what with strays, them gettin' bogged in the mud on the banks and needin' pulled out, and the water pulling weaker ones with the current. Finally with the calves swam over across saddles, the herd is put to graze as the horses and Dragon wagon prepare to join us.
"Alright, let's get the wagon over" Sky and Jenny-Lynn help the ferry man roll the heavy vessel onto the raft,. It's goin' be a slow process to carry first the wagon, then the supplies across the rushing river. The ferry is pulled by heavy rope cables strung shore to shore. It is hard, difficult work, but surely as not it is finally finished. As Kaji, Lizzie and Mikey help re-load the supplies the remuda is driven from their oped corral towards the river.
" OK Boss, let's have'em go" Peppino calls out to Chuey on the opposite shore. Chuey raises her cowbirdhat and the push begins. The horses are herded for the bank and quickly out into the moving waters. We don't give'em time to rethink this. Horses are good swimmers, but some still flail wildly and have to be roped and pulled to the banks, amongst the screams and high shrill fearful whinnies.
Sugar sees a white gelding pulled under the current, tossing her rope over his slender neck as he comes to the surface further down stream. She clicks to Thorin who lunges for shore and up the grassy embankment. The gelding pants heavily.

  Hello SweetPepper~
I hope you are having a great day! It's been a very nice one around here so far. Mom is getting the laundry finished up, doing some chores around the place and cooking! She bought Fisher fair scone mix so I hope she decides to make some of those! I love them! I got a nice piece of waffle for breakfast and I saw some corn biscuits out there too. So far the only thing cooked is the ground turkey for Mandy. That does not interest me at all so mom needs to get a move on and make something I want!
We hope Grandpa is feeling better today and keeps getting stronger and stronger! We hope your mom is taking good care of herself too! She has got way to much going on and we hope she is taking some time for herself! We have you all in our prayers!
